It's too bad the bowling lanes were postponed. It would definitely be the only thing to drag me to the Wide World of Sports.
Of course, they probably wouldn't even have REAL bowling there...only those really big balls, which is lazy man's bowling. Give me candlepin anytime.

They just opened a Lucky Strike Bowling Lane in Midtown. It's cool because there are drinks at the bar available and waitress service that comes to your lane to deliver your drinks. A dj spins music ...It's a fun night out..but i highly doubt that this is what disney has in mind for their bowling alley...however I think it's right up your alley Mindy ;)

Actually, Aaron... In November 2008, a picture is only worth about 240 words... :rotfl2: But I'm in it for the long term...:thumbsup2

Candlepin bowling has been around for longer than either duckpin or that poser, ten-pin. It's a whole lot more challenging, too!

count us in for that! That would be fantastic. Its a funny thing. i live in Northbridge and we have a candle pin alley down the road and on the same street is a store called the welcoming lantern. I went in there after bowling to buy light bulbs and the clerk and owner noticed my figment sweatshirt and asked if I had just come back from Disney. Well its turns out that he is a huge Disney fan as well and i spent 45 mins just talking Disney. it was a wonderful day.
A little off topic sorry.
Anyways if you want to go bowling we can get a great rate at the alley we go to. :):thumbsup2

Bowling is my 2nd favorite pasttime after the mouse. I bowl in 2 leagues a week so I am quite busy with bowling. I was really excited when I 1st heard about the bowling lanes coming to WDW.
Heck last night I even figured out how to record an MP3 to send in to the podcast team regarding the bowling lanes and today I hear the info on the podcast - I said " well - there goes my questions :sad2: "
Oh well - the idea was cool while it lasted but at least I figured out how to record an MP3 and send it in to the podcast team :)

Okay I'll put it in print. I have my own "balls", somewhere :snooty: ... and there are three!
I bowled in leagues in the past (like high school and before). Candlepin is probably bigger here in the Northeast than anywhere. I usually watched Don Gillis (sp) on Saturday from Sammie White's Brighton Bowl (near Boston).
Love the 7-10 split

First off, I am not sterotyping all bowlers so save your breath. As Kevin says during hid dining reviews this was my experience, yours may be different.
I worked in a bowling alley for a while when I was in college and it was probably the worst job that I ever had. Boot Camp was better.
There were some good folks on some of the leagues but on the weekends I had to put up with a bunch of drunks, people trying to steal the ugly bowling shoes, throwing the bowling balls halfway down the lanes. Idiots.
I saw more men and women cheating on spouses then I ever have in my life. Some of the guys would ask me to cover for them if their spouse would call looking for them and was asked by many women to do the same.
I have literally seen a group of ladies talking by the desk in a group deciding on what bar or club to go to and watch them pull off their wedding rings and put them in their pocket.
We kept a uniformed off duty policeman as security a good portion of the time when the place was open. I have had many people escorted off the premises with the guy in the group threatening me as he was being hauled away that he was coming back for me at closing, (they never did although I was hoping a few of them would be "brave" enough to show up. Some I was concerned they would be back with a shotgun)
Some of the regular bowlers who was in leagues (I didn't say all so don't start yelling at me) would constantly b.. errr complain about something no matter how well the place was maintained. They sucked at bowling so they would whine about not enough oil on the lanes, too much oil on the lanes, etc. We poor desk clerks were constantly getting griped at.
It may have been the area we were in and I know I probably did not notice the good folks as much as I saw the bad, but to this day I get the creeps and pretty ticked off just driving in front of one of those places.
YMMV

If Disney adds bowling my kids will want to drag our Disney bowling balls down there, I can picture the look on my DH's face if I add them to our luggage! :lmao: We have 4 Disney balls in our family. I ahve the fab 5, DD14 has The Lion King, DD9 has princesses and DD6 has Nemo. We love them, they ar so pretty, but I can bet if there was bowling they'd wnat to pack them to take!

Oh wow..does that take me back!!!! I grew up in Newton (Dian-er did too!) and Brighton was the next town over.....been there done that...and I do remember that TV show. My parents were in a league.
I have done both - candlepin and "regular" big ball bowling....honestly I am better at the latter, but I can do candlepin.

I do have 4 balls...ten pin that is. Haven't used them in 10 years though...
Did some pseudo-serious tenpin at one time, candlepin was more for fun when the women tagged along... :)
