View Full Version : I'm an Owner's Locker Groupie!

I finally figured out why Owner's Locker makes me so happy. It isn't just the fact that packing and unpacking is a breeze. It isn't only that I can have extra convenience items as well as necessities waiting for me. It isn't even the time and money I am saving by buying frequently used items in larger sizes and storing them for multiple visits. Of course the service is stellar, and I appreciate that rarity. But what makes me LOVE my Owner's Locker is knowing that a part of me never leaves Orlando! My locker says a big purple WELCOME HOME when I arrive!
Any other groupies out there? Feel free to copy the van in my signature!

It is indeed an interesting feeling knowing you have "stuff" in Orlando.

If they were only a little bigger! Maybe we need two!

I know the feeling. We don't save enough on the large versus small. The cost is low for us for less to lug to WDW and sometimes send a box to ourselves. We have a couple of extra things we would not have with us we have to bring it.

I am curious as to what the fees are for the Owner's Locker. Is it only worth it if you make frequent trips? I am just wondering if it might be better to just ship a package to ourselves while we are there. I would appreciate any feedback.

It took me forever to decide to take the plunge and fork over the money to get my OL, but I am SO glad I did. To me it would be worth it even if we only took one trip a year. I love not having to round up ponchos, umbrella's, coffee filter, first aide kit, and on, and on, and on, but I especially love leaving things in it that I wouldn't pack. Things like framed pictures of our grandkids and our kids, extra keyboards for our laptops (gotta work a little), Brita faucet filter, a feather pillow. It just makes my life easier and getting ready for a trip to WDW is much less stressful now.

Love it!:goodvibes

It depends on what value you put on the convenience you get from them. The cost of shipping can be small if done early. There is the hassle of packing and shipping to and from WDW. You fill your locker, then you pack and unpack at the room. You don't have to travel to ship it. You can have bell services at any of the resorts you visit in the Orlando area deliver and pick it up. It is a personal choice. I would say dollar wise the more trips the better the value. I doubt we will ever get to the point of carry on only. It has lightened the amount of stuff we take with us. We normally fly and most airlines are charging for checked bags. That is part of our part of thinking on savings.

I hope this helps.

Right there with the rest of you:thumbsup2 Our locker, John, & Brian have saved us many headaches(although we may have created some for them) while @ WDW. I am guessing we've probably used the locker around 12 times in the past two years and have not once had any problems. There is a DIS special promo for your first locker running right now, I think you will be hooked after the first use:goodvibes

I love my OL. I don't have to drag heavy luggage around. And one other benefit--when I arrive back at my real home, there isn't much to unpack--just some clothing--and I'm done! ;)

And the customer service is just the best! :worship:

Thanks to everyone for the information on pricing & convenience. I hadn't thought about being charged for luggage, but that is an excellent point. I am one of those people who brings "everything but the kitchen sink" when I travel, especially when it comes to toiletries & medicinal items. The OL might be worth it just to save my back & shoulders from my 50 pound carry on (ok, slight exaggeration, but it is quite heavy).

Not putting down OL, but this thread comes across like an ad. Then again, the OL folk have paid for advertising here. Even if they pull that - this thread will survive. LOL

I haven't needed to try OL, perhaps as I age and if my family moves away from the Orlando area I will - I'm hoping it's all people report it to be now, then.

You're right, twinklebug. It does sound like an ad. I considered posting this thread for over a year and didn't for just that reason. Then I started reading other threads with folks who love their Owner's Locker and thought that I might not be the only one. I guess I decided that I needed to find a support group to make me not feel so silly. I really DO LOVE it, like I LOVE my DVC and the DIS. It is an emotional thing, not just a practical thing. Boy, does that sound stupid as I type it. Guess maybe I am having second thoughts about my "coming out"!

Not stupid at all, I feel the same way about my OL, DVC and the DIS. People that don't feel the same way, may not understand and think it's silly....that's okay. There are plenty of people who feel the same way and understand this seemingly silly emotional attachment to such things.:goodvibes

I have been thinking about this some more and have some more questions. I was thinking this morning about all of the things that would be great to be able to just keep there. I was wondering 1) if there are different sizes available; 2) if there are different sizes, how did you determine which size to choose; and 3) When you first filled it, did you bring the items with you or purchase them there. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi twinklebug, I was as surprised as you were when I saw this thread but maybe I can shed a bit of light on the subject. I see this issue all day every day. Loads of folks wonder what the big deal is about an Owner's Locker. I mean it's a purple box. But once folks start using a Locker to store things, it does tend to take the quality of your time at WDW to a new level and users become quite passionate about Owner's Locker.

Sure, it's about convenience. But more importantly, a Locker allows people to really live out the "Welcome Home" concept. It's not that our Members keep treasures in their Lockers. More likely it's tons of little things that make them feel more at home while they're at WDW.

I'm sorry the posts came across as an ad. They're nothing more than DVC Members sharing their opinions about something they like with other DVC Members.

rkweir, there's only one size Locker and I think you'll find that it's plenty big. When I was testing the concept, I had a container roughly the size of one of our Lockers and it worked great for six of us.

I think the things people store fall into a few categories:

-Disney Stash. You know, the box of stuff you only use while at WDW that's probably in a box under your bed or in the garage.

-Disposables. The stuff you buy and throw away--except you get supersize containers because now you won't have to throw them away when you leave. Toiletries, sunscreen and liquor come to mind.

-Personal items. Once you have a place to store stuff, this is where a Locker gets fun. You begin thinking of DVC as a second home and things you'd never consider packing, shipping or buying and tossing make it into your Locker. And you'd be surprised at the items that are duplicates of things you have at home.

I usually tell people to bring some things along (or ship them to the resort) but the heavy/bulky stuff is better bought here.
Hope this helps.

John

Why is this an add and talking about how wonderful DVC is isn't??:lmao:

Should we pull all the threads talking about how great the TSS was? :lmao:

Just because someone LIKES a product does NOT make it an bad and if we can only post about things NOT for sale/rent by sponsors of the board then ALL the DVC boards will have to be shut down. They are SPONSORED by a reseller of DVC.

I love my locker. John and Brian didn't PAY me to say that and "I am CarolA and I approved this message":rotfl2:

I didn't think that at all. I just think that its human nature to want to tell everyone about something (be it a product or service) when you find it so useful. There are many threads that discuss other products or services here on the Dis as well-TGMike, Timeshare Store, Magical Express, Garden Grocer, etc. some free and some not. Its just nice to hear people's experiences. I have to say I've never heard one bad thing about OL, so maybe that's why it sounds like an ad? Still...I see nothing wrong with it.

26 days before we meet our locker. Got a trip planned for June for 2 weeks. I'm guessing I won't fully appreciate the OL till our June trip. I'm hoping to be one of the OL groupies, but for now, I'm still undecided so we're giving it a try. Staying in a 1BR for Christmas and a studio in June so we'll need more stuff for our summer trip.

I like the little email my locker sends to me letting me know it's getting ready for my visit.

I love the text message it sends me when it's at the resort waiting for me.

And it's nice to get the email letting me know it's home safe and sound, awaiting my next trip.

I have so much junk in mine it isnt funny.

Plus all our rain ponchos and some other stuff I tossed in.

That's more than a whole suitcase I dont have to worry about bringing down with us. :thumbsup2

I poo-poo'd OL in the begining but have seen the purple light. :wizard:

Just a question to all of the OL groupies - how many trips to Orlando/WDW do you make per year? Is it worth it for a family who only goes once per year (usually)? Is it possible to "share" an OL with another DVC family that we are close to? Actually that's three questions! It really sounds like a great service.

Count me in as an OL groupie! We just added our second locker on our trip last month. Of course we didn't realize we would need it until the night before we were leaving. No worries. John and Brian were on the case and had our locker delivered bright and early. We were off site this trip and they even offered to wait while we filled it. We weren't exactly ready to go so we just left both lockers at the sales office of Windsor Hills. You can't beat the customer service of OL.

Add us to the OL Groupies list! Some of the stuff we sent/took down because we knew we could leave it behind came in so handy - scissors, gloves (it was cold!), plates (we were in a studio - waffles on a paper plate just don't cut it), etc. It was so awesome to know that our trips are going to be much more comfortable and homelike. Our locker is totally full of stuff that we'll get a lot more use out of when we stay in a 1 or 2br in the future, too - and we added some stuff while we were there. Like a coffee scoop - not being a coffee drinker, I always forget that little detail, so we got a cute Mickey one. :) I also got the MK castle holiday throw ($15 with any $40 purchase) and left that in our locker for curling up on the couch or sitting out on the balcony. Plus I have more ideas for things to keep down there...looks like Locker #2 is in our future. ;)

When I signed up, I was planning on averaging 1 trip per year. I just figured that it would be a conveneince for me to save on some of my packing. In reality, I will have 3 trips this year and either 1 or 2 next year.

Yes you can share a locked with another member.

We'll be using our OL for the first time in our upcoming trip. I'm about to schedule the delivery/pick up. For the pick up do you all just have them pick up the day you check out? So you leave the locker with the bell services?

When you schedule you put the date for check out. You leave the locker at bell services. Also bell services is where they leave the locker for you at the beginning of your trip. This trip we start at SSR and the locker was here. We will be leaving from VWL and we will leave the locker at bell services at WL and OL will pick it up there.

Well, we did it. After mulling it over and weighing the pros and cons, we decided that this OL thing sounded pretty sweet just for the convenience of it. So, we are now official owners of a purple bin and we are planning to use for the first time in January. I have actually had so much fun planning on what to put in it! I used our normal packing list and the suggestions on this board were awesome! We have some bins at home that we store Christmas decorations in that are roughly the same size, so I have been able to judge approximately how much will fit in there - wow! I have been gathering items and putting them in boxes to ship to ourselves and so far it looks like we have only filled up about 1/3 of the space - cool! :cool1:

I saw a bunch of OL's at OKW when I was there and while it is pricey, with so many airlines now charging for all luggage it's now a feasible option for us. And if I never have to lug 6 suitcases and 12 carryons (don't even ask! LOL) plus 4 children and a stroller through the airport again...well that would be priceless! :rotfl:

We'll be signing up before the new year and I'll be bringing stuff down in Jan to fill it up! ;)
