So I finally have time to sit down and start our PTR. Grab a nice drink :coffee: and some popcorn popcorn:: and make yourself comfortable. :)

Cast:
Me - Dana; Obessive planner; Loves anything Disney and who talked DH into letting me submit DD1 for Make A Wish :teeth:
DH - Jim; SAHD extrodinare. My rock and love of my life. :love2:
DD1 - Emily (aka Emy), age 5, the wish Princess princess: who simply amazes me each day
DD2 - Samantha (aka Sami); age 3, our Entertainer. Life of the partyparty:
Nana -Marilyn - Our saving grace, helpful hand and all around wonderful MIL to me.

Here’s a little background on us. I got pregnant, had a WONDERFUL pregnancy ‘cept for a little heartburn here and there. DD1 turned a year old and 1 month and BAM pregnant with #2. Life was humming along for us quite well. Happy as can be! :cloud9:

Fast forward to 2007… Emily started preschool and was so excited. Unfortunately she had an unusually HIGH fever (I’m talking 105 here folks!!!) and we figured it was strep and hauled both girls off to the last appointment of the day to their pediatrician, figuring if one gets it, so will the other. Pedi says, it could be urinary tract infection (happens often to little girls who start school and um, well, don’t do so well with potty time at school). She feels around her tummy and then tells us to go next door do have an ultrasound done. DD2, the ansty pants child, won’t sit still so I take Emily into the u/s room while DH has the Entertainer (aka Sami) walking the halls of the hospital. U/S tech scans Emily and when finished says there is a “mass” on her kidney. Not sure what to think but know I’m not good with details on medical stuff franticly try to get DH into the room so when the radiologist comes in to give details that he’ll be there. (Crappy cell phone coverage at the hospital, figures right)? He made it in time and radiologist says it’s a TUMOR, more than likely Wilms. “Is that cancerous,” I ask? Yes. But I still hold out hope that it’s benign and we head back over to the peditircian’s office. We are put in room and the peditirican comes in with a box of tissues and CRYING. :sad1: (You know it’s bad news when your DOCTOR is crying…) :sad2: She explains that Emily has a mass on her kidney and that it’s proably a Wilms Tumor. Tells us to pack our bags and head to Children’s Medical Center because she’ll proably have surgery tonight to remove the mass. Say WHAT? :confused3

DH can’t even speak at this point so I need to find someone to come and watch DD#2 so that DH and I can BOTH go to the hospital. Understand, we have NO family in town so we had to rely on friends for help. :guilty: Luckily we have a great friend who just turned around (it was after 6PM by this time) and headed over to our house to take care of Samantha. We made phone calls to family (DH’s mom), packed our suitcases and headed off to the hospital.

13 hours later, countess tests and many fever spikes later, we are told by an oncology team that our not yet four yearl old daughter not only has a cancerous tumor but there are actually two tumors: a 9cm tumor on her left and a more dangerous 3cm tumor on her right kidney and they are called Bilateral Wilms Tumor. She’ll be scheduled for a port surgery two days later (it was Friday and they’ll do the surgery Monday) and start chemotherapy immediately. WHAT?!? Because both kidneys were affected she couldn't have surgery until she had chemo to shrink the tumors and make them easier to remove. Our heads are still spinning at this point just taking this all in. Meanwhile she STILL has a fever and no one is sure what is causing it.

Monday comes (STILL fever) and Emily goes into pre-op for the port surgery. (Surgery #1). They give her some sort of loopy medicine that makes her tired but they waited too long from when they gave her the medicine from when they took her for surgery. That means she cried, I mean screamed, for me all the way down the hallway. My not yet 4 year old, first born child, was taken from me screaming to have a port put in facilitate administrating cancer killing drugs. We are a wreck. Once she’s out of surgery we get the paperwork about her “roadmap.” A roadmap shows what drugs are given where and when she’ll have different scans/tests. We receive the list of drugs: Vincrinstine, Doxirubicin and Dactomycin. Each have side effects. We’re still spinning. Give her drugs she could have major side effects or die; Don’t give her drugs she’ll die from the cancer. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. We sign off on the paperwork, I crawl into bed with her and watch the first drug go into her IV and silently cry.

It got easier as the treatments went on. We debated putting her back in school. I mean, it’s hard enough to have your child go to school (even if it’s only 2 days a week) but now that she’s undergoing cancer treatment and her immune system is going to compromised do we really want her in a germ infested environment? :confused3 We talked to the oncology staff and they suggest keeping as much as we can “normal” which means keeping her in school and dance. We talked to the school and they are so wonderful in helping us. We found out that her TA was an oncology nurse before she started teaching  and that folks, was the icing on the cake that gave us the piece of mind to send her to school! She even offered to put the emlela cream (cream that numbs the skin over the port so the kids don’t feel the needle going in) on chemo days (Thursday) right before I picked her up. :goodvibes See, I was the one that would take her to chemo. Even though DH is a SAHD, I deal better with needles, blood and don’t faint! I was the easy choice :rotfl:

Now, she gets chemo for a couple months and then surgery. Her cancer is rare (she is one of 50 cases a year!) and so now we’re faced with thinking about her next surgery and do we do it at home or find another doctor? DH gets on a listserv and starts asking questions to the parents of Wilms kids. We are put in touch with a wonderful woman whose daughter had Wilms, DH talks to her (and hour and a half!!) and while she is talking to him contacts her team in NY (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center) and before the conversation is over, DH has an appointment to see the team! :goodvibes We make a list of questions for potential surgeons and are told from other friends and family how wonderful we’re doing this. Wouldn’t you do the same? Find the BEST doctors? BEST treatment? We’re stumped why people keep telling us this! :confused3
DH talks with our surgeon here in Dallas (same one that did Emily’s port) while I stayed with Emily during chemo. He flies off to NY the next week with the same list of questions but with his sister in tow (she’s a nurse). He came home and I knew by looking at him he had already made a decision: MSKCC was the place for her. While our surgeon was great here in Texas, the surgeon in NY had done SO many more. This is what he does. We knew without a doubt this was the path Emily needed to take. BUT, MSKCC was not on our insurance! :headache: No way could we afford her surgery without insurance. I set off to go through the exception route with my company and insurance to have them added and see what I can do and who can help me.

Emily started losing her hair. She knew this meant that the chemo was working but it was terribly hard on me. :sad1: I remember giving the girls a bath and washing Emily’s hair and seeing the clumps of it in my hand. It took all of my restraint not to break down and cry right there in front of the girls. She was looking pretty spotty at this point and DH suggested we shave her head. She agreed and I cut her hair as short as I could with shears and DH then proceeded to shave it. Her two year old sister after it was freshly shaved gave her a kiss on the head. It was adorable. I took her inside so she could look in the mirror and she turns and says to me, “Mommy, I want my hair back.” Again, it took all the strength I could muster to tell her it’s ok and once she’s done with her chemo it’ll come back.:sad1:

Emily finished her 7 round of chemo and it’s time for scans to see if the chemo is working. The one tumor shrunk 2-3cm which is fabulous but the smaller one actually got larger. I freak out. Chemo isn’t working on one. What does that mean? The team here wasn’t concerned. Still on schedule for surgery around weeks 10-12. Sent off the scans to NY to see what was their opinion.

We’re at the genetics office the next Monday (because with bilateral Wilms there is a slight chance for a genetic link) for consultation on our youngest daughter and we get a call that says they got her last scans and they want her to have surgery Thursday. THIS Thursday? :scared1: Yes. Pre-op Wednesday which means we need to be on a plane TOMORROW. OMG! Scurry out of the office to home to feverishly start packing, making reservations and calling insurance to verify, YES, MSKCC is APPROVED for her surgery! :cool1:

Arrive in NJ, settle Samantha in with MIL (at SIL's house) and SIL with BIL drive us into the city for Emily’s pre-op testing (she had to be there at 6AM!), met with surgeons and signed release forms. There is a chance they can’t save the right one, that she might lose that one. Just letting us know. :confused3 Next morning they took her from us (Surgery #2) at 8AM. They were able to save both kidneys and remove the tumors. :goodvibes Both kidneys are functioning (YEA) and it’s off to the PICU across the street (MSKCC doesn’t have a PICU). DH rides in the ambulance while I walk across the street to fill out all the insurance papers before I can go up. She’s in the PICU for three days then sent (again) by ambulance across the street back to MSKCC. Three days later it looks like she’s doing well enough to go back to NJ. We wait for the staff to get us discharged. Meanwhile we see the oncologist that says she needs chemo before she’s discharged and oh, she’ll also need radiation treatments. Say what? Wasn’t prepared for that and now have to figure out how to digest that. We are finally discharged after we’re told she has a nasty bacteria (10PM), she needs antibiotics (but she can take them orally) and we’re finally off to NJ to celebrate Thanksgiving the next day!

Uh, no. Just kidding. ;) Emily develops a fever again but because she just had surgery, has a port and a nephrostomy bag, we are told to head back to the hospital. 1 ½ hours later we eat Thanksgiving dinner in an isolation room until they figure out if she needs to be admitted. She is. We’re staying. Happy Turkey Day.:(

Discharged, NJ, back to NY. See a theme here? She had radiation, chemo and finally sent home to Texas with her nephrostomy tube. Surgeon says it can be in for a while until the kidney is healed. Other kidney is fine. Ok… we’ll figure out how to deal with this.

Back in Texas, Emily is not herself. :( I don’t know if the surgery did it or if it a combo of all the things going on but she’s in a very dark place. Very little smiles and it’s tough. We planned a WDW vacation before she got sick with reservations at the Wilderness Lodge, CRT, Chef Mickey’s ect but put it all on hold once she was DX, not knowing if she’ll be up to traveling. Well, after encouragement from our oncology team, we went. I am so glad we did. We finally got to see her smile again. :goodvibes We did have a slight problem. Remember that nephrostomy tube she went back home to TX with? She STILL had it in January when we went on the trip. DH the expert medical tape changing, maintince of the tube man, brought everything he could think of in case something happened. :cool2: Well, guess what? Our first day at the MK, on our way to CRT, Emily is in the stroller that my MIL is pushing. The nephrostomy bag falls on the ground and gets run over by the wheels. No biggie right? WRONG! It started to leak but of course we didn’t notice this until we’re up at CRT. DH is fuming. That’s the ONE thing he didn’t have extras of. He made due with surgical tape until we could get home! Rest of the trip was uneventful. She had an amazing time and so did we!:goodvibes

She kept that nephrostomy bag for five months until well, I'll spare you the details but it came out and not on purpose. Back to NY to have another surgery (Surgery #3). This time for a stent.

Home again. Dance recitals, end of school, summer. Finish chemo. Off treatment. We're in a new world now. During treament there was a plan. Now, it's wait and see. MRIs every three months for two years. She has nephrogentic rests that put her at risk for more tumors. :( She has her first set of scans. NED (No Evidence of Disease) :worship: Best acroynm in the world! :cool1: BUT her right kidney has hydro nephrosis (meaning it's not "draining"). She needs surgery again. Maybe new stent? Head to NY. Port removed, old stent removed and new stent placed. (surgery #4) Doesn't help the kidney. Back into OR for stent removal and new nephrostomy bag. (Surgery #5) Bad situation anesthesia situation for her. Stress me and DH. :sad2:

Now we have to figure out what is the problem with the draining. NY Dr says he can do it. We don't know what to do.... Head home to TX to decide. Again with a tube in Emy's side... :(

We're home and perplexed as ever. Do we go back to NY and have the surgery? Do we find a urologist? I call around. Send emails. Finally decide to have the surgery here at home. Surgeon has done this type of correction before. Looks like she's got a kink in her urerter. He can fix it and give her a stent while she heals. Surgery goes as planned. :cool1: He fixes the problem. (Surgery #5) But complication arrives and she goes back into the OR the next day to fix the stent (Surgery #6). Each time Emy wakes up she's more and more unhappy and wants OUT of recovery. They removed her nephrostomy tube and put a drain but complication arrives again and she has to go back into the OR (Surgery #7). This time it is fixed and we go home.

Now, after all the stuff in July DH agrees to letme apply for MAW for Emy. She's been through so much and she deserves to have a little happiness. I am told we qualify, they send our info to the surgeons, they approve and we wait for our wish granters to contact us!!!:goodvibes We talk to Emy to see what she might want to wish for and she says "Disney Boat." I am over the moon :rotfl: but DH isn't sure that's the "right" wish for her. Maybe something more tangible that will last longer? We'll see what happens.

We live not far from the MAW office so our wish granters asked if we wanted to come to the Wishing Tower so Emy could make her wish there. We headed over there and met our wish granters. We proceeded to fill out a TON of paperwork while the other wish granter worked with Emy having her draw her wish. She drew a boat, the DISNEY boat! It was the most beautiful boat I've ever seen an almost 5 year old draw...

Dana, that was the most inspiring and amazing story of motherhood, courage and strength that I have ever read...I cried and smiled (yes at the same time!) as I read it and am so appreciative that you are sharing our story with us!

As I sit here (on my laptop) with DD5 and DS7 on either side of me having a movie night watching (what else!) a Disney movie - The Little Mermaid, I will think of you and your family! You are amazing and my prayers are with you and I will be anxiously awaiting the next step (and more info!) from MAW!! They are amazing!!

Hugs to your whole family and thanks for sharing! :flower3:

Once Emy made her wish, her Wish Granters told us that it wouldn't be a problem for her to have this wish! :cool1: The cavet: She wants Nana to go and we let the granters know that we'll pay for her to go. No problem they say! They will book the trip and we'll just pay MAW for her portion. :thumbsup2 We put the dates on hold because we weren't sure about all her surgeries and wanted to make sure she was "hardware free" ie no port, stent, foreign object in her body so she could enjoy the trip and be completely healed!. So we told our granters "Sometime in 2009". After Emy's last surgery in Sept, we gave our granters the green light to plan in 2009.:goodvibes

I IMMEDIATELY got on the 'puter that night and ordered the Passporter's Cruise guide. :lmao: You know, me being the obsessive planner? I HAD to have SOMETHING to read about the trip? ;) I joined the Wish Trippers Unite thread here and started to know this community from a cruise perspective.

MAW has been wonderful to Emily. Our granters visited Emily in the hosptial this last time (Sept), and came out and spent an hour and a half with Emily on her birthday! They've invited us to their Art Parties at MAW where both girls feel included and loved. :lovestruc Such an amazing organization.

Last week DH and I got a phone call from Children's Cancer Fund here in Dallas. They wanted to invite Emily to be a part of their annual fundraiser in the spring (it's a fashion show and if you knew Emily you'd understand she LOVES girly, frilly clothes!!) She was over the moon!! But I started to freak out! What if these dates they need her conflict with her MAW trip? :confused3 I immediately emailed her wish granters and gave them the dates to see if they would conflict. I got an email back almost immedately from them that said they had good news and that Emily's trip was tenatlively scheduled for JANUARY 18-22!!! Whoo Hoo!!!!:cool1: :cool1: By process of elimination that is the four night cruise!!! :yay: We are so excited. They had tentatively booked air, cruise and transportation for my MIL but she has since decided that she wants to book her own fare so we're just waiting for confirmation that they can remove her flight before our dates are set in stone. Hopefully we'll know early next week that our trip is BOOKED!! :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Now, here are some pictures:

More to come next week..... :rolleyes1 What to pack? Where will I find size 6 shorts and flip flops for Emily (she's outgrown the ones she has!)? What excursions to book with a 3&5 yo? Oh, and she has surgery #8 coming up Tuesday (11/4)....

Funny you should say all that about MAW - working for them has always been my dream job ( although I have to admit a stay at home mom is a pretty fabulous job too!!). Can you imagine what an awesome job that would be??!!! :cool1:

Keep us updated and have fun planning!! :yay:

Thanks for sharing Emily's story. She is so strong. I cried thru it. I have a friend (lol, an internet friend) who's 8 month old baby girl had bilateral wilms as well, she went to St Judes and is now in remission! Go Kelly! :)

oh Dana. I cried and had chills as I read your story and can identify with so much of it. I can't tell you how much I hate that our children have to go through this. I swear that when AJ is cured (I refuse to think differently) I am going to do everything I can to fight for a cure and to bring more awareness to Childhood Cancer.

Your trip sounds fabulous and Emy (your whole family) is so beautiful! I hope it's ok to keep you in my prayers!

DH called and said our wish granter came by the house with our paperwork that has the confirmation numbers!! We are offically BOOKED!! :cool1: :cool1: :woohoo: Here are the deets:

Two rooms (remember, MIL is coming with us) 2602 & 2604 (Cat 9) Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom (ie big porthole window!!); second dining rotation.

The only thing I'm worried about is that they have us booked for a 7AM flight the DAY OF THE CRUISE. Does that make anyone a little worried that we may miss our boat because of flight delays?? Do I ask to fly in the night before or do I leave as is? :rolleyes1 Thoughts? Ideas?

Now to book shore excursion. What is appropriate to book for a 3 & 5 yo? Do I just say we're going to do some beach time at both and leave it at that? I'll have to look at my passporter in more detail at the excursions. Any suggestions?

On another note, Emy's surgery on Tuesday went as planned and was FAST! Because it was done with minimally evasive techniques she was away from me maybe 12-15 minutes? YAHOO! She was a little green on the way home (if you know what I mean...) but other than that she's back to her normal self. She's finally HARDWARE free! First time in over 13 months! :yay: :yay: We went out to dinner to her favorite restaurant, Babe's Chicken House, to celebrate and watch her do the Hokey Pokey! :rotfl2:

CANCER SUCKS doesn't it? No way around it! Have you joined PAC2? (Parents against childhood cancer)? It's a great site and the site owner has a great plan of action to bring more awareness for 2009!

Yep and we're a team on Team Unite as well.

I'm so excited for you!!!! We haven't been told what staterooms they booked for us and I don't know if I should ask, but hearing about yours makes me wonder! :) We are flying out early the morning of our cruise as well. We live an hour and a half from the airport so they're going to put us in a hotel that night before. Now that you've mentioned flight delays I'm nervous! :) Haha! I don't know what to tell you.

We have an 8 and 13 yo so we have set our sights on the Atlantis Aquaventure and they are super pumped for that. I don't know if it would be as fun for younger kids or not as I've never been there. Maybe someone else will chime in.

We went out to dinner to her favorite restaurant, Babe's Chicken House, to celebrate and watch her do the Hokey Pokey! :rotfl2:

Love Babe's and I will have to bring my Wish girl over to the Dallas Office on one of those art day's. It would be nice to meet a family so close.

From the time you met with your wish granters, how long did it take this local office to give you a tentative date for your trip?

I'm hoping that the announcement of Pirate and Princess Parties, one of Mya's big wishes will help them seal a date now.

Another Bilateral? Wow! So glad she's doing well!!! Does she have a caringbridge site? I'd love to visit. Not too many bilateral kids out there.

She does have a cb site but it is passworded.. I will ask her mom if it is okay for me to give it to you.

I'm hoping that the announcement of Pirate and Princess Parties, one of Mya's big wishes will help them seal a date now. Well, we were a little different as after her wish, we put planning on hold because of her surgery. We waited until after her surgery (early sept) to give them the green light to plan (we asked them to plan for 2009 since she'd have her surgery 11/4 and we wanted plenty of time to heal!). So I guess it took about 6 weeks?

Thanks for sharing. This is way I donate almost exclusively to MAW. They are such a wonderful organization.:flower3: How wonderful! DH and I have decided when this is all said and done and Emy is in remission, we're going to become Wish Granters!

She does have a cb site but it is passworded.. I will ask her mom if it is okay for me to give it to you. Sent you a PM. Emy has a caringbridge site too if she wants to take a look at ours first before she gives her site out to a total stranger. :goodvibes

Hello! I’m so glad that I came across your thread and was so very happy to read your story because our 3-yr old son was also diagnosed with a Wilms’ tumor and he is also going on a MAW Disney cruise….AND it’s in January too! We are leaving Jan. 11th…one week before you go!!! Here is some info about our son, Carter, and the link to his caringbridge.org page:

On May 14th of 2007 my husband and I took our son Carter, a 20 month old energetic toddler, into our Mayo family doctor because we were concerned with a large mass on the left side of his abdomen. I felt in my heart that there was something terribly wrong. Our family doctor examined his abdomen and agreed with us that there was definitely something “not right”. A short time later Carter was scheduled for an x-ray, an ultrasound, blood work, and a CT scan.

Soon after the CT was completed the doctors finally disclosed the diagnosis. We didn’t know what to say, we had never herd of a Wilms’ tumor, but then the doctor said something that made frightening sense to us – “it’s kidney cancer.” There was a moment of desperation and chaos as if the world was crumbling down on us. You hear about stories, but as a mother you are never prepared to see your child suffering, living through what feels like a death sentence, our doctor said the words that literally changed our lives.

We spent the next week in a whirlwind of doctors, nurses, forms to fill out, questions to answer and people to call. Carter had a grueling six hour long surgery one week later to remove a very large tumor, his left kidney, and several lymph nodes. The tumor was so large it filled the entire left side of his abdomen and a portion of his right side. Carter sailed through the surgery with minimal complications. Tests on the tumor showed that it was a stage II; however, all of his lymph nodes were negative for cancer.

Soon after we were released from the hospital we were back again to insert a port-a-cath, a device that is placed under the skin to provide intravenous access for chemotherapy. And so we began the 6-month protocol to treat Carter’s cancer.

Although his journey to being “cancer free” has just begun we have so much to be thankful for. Kyle and I both believe that he is young enough that he will not remember most of what is happening to him. Even though he has to deal with this terrible ordeal he amazes us every day. We truly thank God for giving us the privilege of being his mommy and daddy. Our lives would be empty with out Carter and his twin sister, Breah, who also has kidney problems. People ask me why I never complain, and I simply tell them that they just make me too darn happy.

Make no mistake about it, cancer is a ruthless disease. But even cancer has its limits. It cannot and it will not destroy our faith in the goodness of God and the kindness of others.

We thank you for taking the time to read about Carter’s story.

WOW!! Welcome! have you done a PTR yet? :) You should!! How many nights are you going? He's NED, right? Have you passed the two year mark? Emy finished her chemo in March but she still had some surgeries to repair some complications. She's all good now. We just live in three month increments, as you know. How awesome ya'll are doing a cruise here. I'm so excited becase I haven't seen a lot of wish cruises around here so we'll add to the mix!:thumbsup2 Emily has a CB site and it's emy if you want to check it out. I'm off to check out carters!

Thanks for the welcome!:goodvibes I haven’t started a PTR, but it’s in the “works”. We are booked on the 4-night Wonder from Jan. 11th-15th. They are flying us out the day before the cruise…but I suspect that has a lot to do with living in MN and the unpredictable weather in January!! Thank God he is NED…last month was his 1-yr anniversary since his last chemo treatment. Even more amazing is that we’ve had almost no complications or problems since then…he is such a trooper! I definitely know what you mean by living in three month increments!!! I’d love to check out Emy’s CB site!! Hopefully you’ll see Carter’s PTR on the boards soon!!!:cool1: :yay: :cheer2:

WOOO HOO! Maybe you can email me when you get back to give me some tips since we leave three days later! :thumbsup2 They're not flying us out the night before. :confused3 Apparently Disney says you have to be in Orlando by 12P and the 7:30A flight theyr'e going to book us on arrives at 11:10A so no flying the night before. I'm kind of bummed b/c that makes a SUPER long day for a 3 & 5 yo (having to be up at 5:30A to get to the airport by 6:30 for a 7:30A flight..) You're half way there! I was told once you get to the 2 yr mark the rate of reoccurance drops significantly!! Whoo Hoo! Because Emy had bilateral and has nephrogentic rests, she has to have MRI's every three months. We're two scans in NED, 6 to go! April 10 2010 she'll be two years OT but who's counting??? :rolleyes1

Have you joined the meet thread for your cruise? I'm trying to get some folks involved in a FE gift exchange on mine. I think the kids would love to help out and come back to the cabin seeing cool little gifts/trinkets each time. :)

Wo - I cried buckets over that beginning - poor Emily! Poor mom and dad! You guys ALL deserve this trip!!!

With little kids, I'm not sure I'd bother with an excursion in Nassau. Either grab a cab and go to Ardestra gardens (a little zoo, with cute photo ops) or just walk over and listen to the steel band in the festival center and then back on the ship to enjoy the pool etc without so many people there.

Hugs to you all!

Now that my trip is over- I have time to read a few more pre-trip reports ( actually, I don't have much more time, but I can't get enough of MAW and Disney!)

We went on a 4 night cruise the summer of 2007. It was magical- we thought it would be our only one but we loved it so much we booked another one! You get a discount if you rebook onboard. We booked out as far as we could and then moved our reservations later once the 2009 dates came out ( We are going Dec. 26, 2009 for a 7 night-gave us 2 1/2 years to save for it!) Originally Nathan's wish was to go on another Disney Cruise, but in OKlahoma, the only Disney Cruise they will do is the 3 night so he went with WDW.

Too bad they won't let you fly in the night before. I'm sure you will be fine- the boat doesn't leave until 4:00 or so, but they let you on the boat around noon. We were not impressed with Nassau at all. We wish we had just stayed on the boat that day. There is so much to do on the boat. You will have such a wonderful time. You have been through so much and deserve a wonderful vacation.

As of today, we have FORTY EIGHT days until Emy’s trip! OMG! :woohoo: I can't believe it's so close!!

Here's some cool updates!

Emily was selected for THE BIG GIVE!!! Whoo hooo! :cool1: Emily is beyond excited about this. She keeps telling me to tell the Big Give group her favorite characters (she keeps adding to her list daily!). :lmao: She and her sis love to do a “fashion show” (ie try clothes on that Mom doesn’t let them wear every day) and cannot wait to have new stuff to show off!. :yay:

On another note, I’ve started going through Emy’s wardrobe to see what fits and what doesn’t. Since she has been OT (off treatment), she has gained back her weight. I didn’t realize how small she really was until recently when we were trying to find warm climate clothes to fit her. She has no shorts that fit!!! :scared1: Or a swimsuit for that matter! I have scoured our local malls, stores, etc but not avail! I ordered some stuff from Lands End but the swimsuit didn’t fit. The shorts barely fit (a 6x) and now I’m back to seeing if I can order the next size up and return the other ones. :confused3 I wonder what I am going to do about the swimsuit. I may have to wait and buy one on the boat! :rolleyes1

We don’t have plane flights yet (EEK!). I talked to our granters today and Disney is booking our flights and they usually book them a month in advance (19 days then to wait but who’s counting? ). My MIL has changed her mind is going to fly from here out to Orlando with us so now I have to get her a one way flight (she’s going to stay in FL after the trip). I’m told Disney USUALLY books the first flight on American… Anyone want to place bets that holds true after I book my MIL’s ticket??? :rolleyes1

DH and I have been quite emotional this past week. He and I were lucky to have a “date night” and we went to go see Jeremy Camp debut his new album. We didn’t have just any seats, they were FRONT ROW! :cool1: It was amazing and just listening to his new songs, especially “There will be a day” made me quite emotional. Jeremy Camp and Casting Crowns’ albums kept me sane during Emily’s treatment (I discovered them right BEFORE Emily was diagnoised!). Their music is amazing and has touched me AND DH.

Just to think this time last year, Emily was in a much different place. It was right after her tumor removal surgery and she was in such a dark, unhappy place. :sad2: Very little laughter, few smiles, ever seem to come from her. Contrast that with this years smiling, giggling little girl just made me realize how blessed we are.

Oh, and MAW contacted us a few weeks ago and asked if Emily would enjoy the ballet. She and her sister both LOVE dance and we immediately said yes. We’ve been given the opportunity to take her to see the Nutcracker (an abbreviated child friendly version) this Saturday. To top it off, she also gets dinner and will meet the cast afterwards! WOW!
:jumping1:

Here are some recent pics of Emily riding her bicycle

and Sami being "cool"

I LOVE Jeremy Camp and Casting Crowns.

I am from Mississippi and the Casting Crowns song, "Praise You in the Storm" was released the day after Katrina. Boy...that one hit home and still does. The song has nothing to do with Katrina...but it was appropriate for the situation on the coast...and still is, really.

Anyway...I digress!

The Nutcracker!!! And the kid version. I think I would enjoy that!

We have a Christian Ballet Company in Jackson, and it is WONDERFUL! They do ballet to Contemporary Christian music a lot...and it is fabulous! :)

It was a fan appreciation concert and a friend of ours got tickets and called DH and asked if we'd like to go. Central MS here! :)

I went to the coast a bunch of times during the months, actually years, I guess, after the storm.

The first weekend we went that CC album was brand new...and we set it up to play music where we were handing out supplies...and that song came on and everyone just stopped what they were doing and listened. We played it over and over. Not a dry eye in the house.

In fact...I could tell stories for days of all of the amazing things that happened with our church during those few weeks.

Anyway...we were mostly in the Pass the whole time...so pretty far away from Ocean Springs...but it was all a disaster. Some of it still is. They say we still have 300 families in central MS that are STILL living in hotel rooms. Paid for by FEMA. A tragedy on two counts!

anyway...I digress!

I am excited about your trip...and particularly about The Big GIVE!! :) Woo Hoo!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Luckily they survivied but the cleanup is never easy from a hurricane. :(

We are so excited about the Big Give too! I laugh often b/c emily really remembers about this and reminds me or says something to me like " member (her verision of Rememeber) those nice people who said they'd make stuff? I really love xxxxx (insert the favorite character of the day..). Will you tell them?" It really is so cute!

This past weekend was the New World Ballet's production of the Nutcracker. They call it Nutcracker in a Nutshell because it's an abbreviated version that is kid friendly.

Our wish granters asked us about a month ago if Emily would be interested in this. Both girls take dance (tap/ballet) and LOVE it! So this was a no brainer to say YES!

Fast forward to this weekend. We got an email from MAW confirming that we had dinner reservations at 6PM (at the theater) which was paid for and then the show at 7:30.

Earlier in the day the girls had a bday party at the outlet mall (Lunar golf) so we'd parked outside of the Children's place (not knowing it had MOVED). Emy immediately saw a dress she loved so I picked it up (I was getting tights anyway!) Sami then said SHE wanted one too (and melted down since it was nap time) so I gave in and bought one for her too! :sad2: Of course they HAD to wear them that night. Here they are right before we left for the show:

Dinner was AMAZING! So yummy I thought I'd probably sleep during the show. The girls were great and we even let them pick whatever dessert they wanted! Hey, it was a treat! :rolleyes1

The show was great! They had kids of all ages in the show (we met one of the mice who was 5!!) and it was adorable!!! :cutie: Emily watched the whole thing w/o moving practically and Sami did pretty well for a 3 yo who's attention span lasts about 30 mins!!:lmao:

The best part? The girls got to MEET the dancers!!! The girls got back stage passes (Sami holding hers)

Afterwards, the President of their guild took us backstage, the girls met both the Claras and were CROWNED princesses:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/n1128440836_30226079_8688.jpg

Then if THAT wasn't enough, they took them back stage, put them in the sleight with the Prince/Nutcracker and brought them out on stage with music, the dancers and snow!!
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Wish.jpg
And if THAT wasn't enough, they gave them GIFTS! I'm talking, picture frames, a REAL nutcracker (Emy is still excited about this) ornaments, nutcracker book, and the lead dancer gave each girl one of her pointe shoes SIGNED!

It was truly a magical night :cloud9: Just wanted to share!

OMG! This past week has been wonderful in our house. We received two packages!! I'll have to find the cord to upload the pictures I took :) :) :)

I'm going to have to instruct DH NOT to even remotely open the packages when the arrive. He sees their names on them, opens them up and goes "What?" and then will either let them have them or if I'm luck, wait for me to come home from work! :confused3

We got some Dreams Ears (they are so cool!) and autograph books. Emily was seriously jumping up and down when she saw that Ariel was on the front of her book! OMG! It was adorable! Off to find the cord to the camera so I can post pics!!

THANK YOU LADIES!!!

What an amazing story! I just found your thread today, and as many before me, I bawled like a baby while reading the intros. I can sympthasize with your family, we had a bit of a health struggle this year also, so I know what it's like to have your life put on hold, all the while fearing what the future will bring.

I must say that you are an amazing, strong woman. I'm positive your faith had alot to do with that, huh? It's the only way I got through my ordeal. We are taking a Disney cruise to celebrate the happiness of good health also!

Your family is beautiful. Even though the road is difficult to walk at time, you are truly blessed.

Enjoy your trip! I can't wait to read all about it. I'll be hanging in there with you all throughout your experience. Hugs!

Thank you!! We are all getting so excited!!!

You did? How did you like it? Was it warm enough??? You have an Emily too? It's such a beautiful name. I had no idea when we picked it that iw was so popular! It was the #1 name for 2003! Then of course I did the same apparently for Samantha as it was the #1 name for 2005 too!! :rotfl:

I didn't know Emily was the #1 name either when we picked it. I also didn't know who Emily Elizabeth was (Clifford). We named her that anyway!!!

We loved the cruise!! I spent a good portion in the cabin though. My DS(2 at the time) came down with an ear infection our last day in the park, so was miserable on the cruise. To top it off I was pretty sick too. But good news is the cabins are nice and pretty spacious, and the medical staff is very nice!! ;)

The only time we were chilly was Pirate Night. We were out on deck and needed lightweight jackets. It was perfect at Castaway Cay - not too hot. I would go again that time aof yearin a heartbeat!! You are going to have a fabulous time!! You will be spoiled by your servers, and the whole crew is so nice!

These are my 2 favorite pictures from our cruise (being sick I took very few pictures of the cruise!!)

Hey, I just read your story and I too cried. It's so great that she got her wish and you are going on the cruise! My sister and I will also be on your cruise with you. We are sisters in our mid to late 20s and if we can do anything to help make this cruise any more special for your daughter and your family, just let us know! I think make a wish and give kids the world are two of the greatest organization! Enjoy your cruise!!

I'm so sorry I've been MIA! Work has been crazy then I actually took TIME OFF over the holidays. Haven't taken time off (unless you count surgeries, chemo, tests, hospitlzations, etc) since before Emy was diagnoised! It felt good.

It's hard to believe that the cruise is in less than 14 days from today! :scared1: Luckily, I corned the kids this weekend to try on clothes. Can you hear them saying, "Awwww Mommy.. MORE? I tried that on already! Mom... are you done YET???" See, Emily has gained back the weight I hadn't realized she lost while OT and frankly the summer clothes from this past season just didn't fit. So I ordered clothes, and picked up things here and there which required her to try them on. Normally she LOVES to do this but when you couple that with her sister in their locked bedroom (so they can't escape from me  ) it is not as fun as it usually is.

I've narrowed clothes down for them but need to figure out if I pack all shorts, or some capris and pants too. I'll make that decision this weekend when I see what the weather is like in FL. DH said the temp in the Bahamas was high 77 yesterdya. Of course, yesterday it was 84 here......:rotfl:

We decided to book one excursion. Atlantis beach day. We figured the historic tour wouldn't be much fun for the kids, and they're really too young for Atlantis, and we still want to experience the island. The dolphin excursion sounded nice but we waited too long and unfortuantely they're all reservrved. Oh well, I'm not going to stress about it. As along as we get to experince the island, it'll be fun!!!

Anywho.. I'm in the process of uploading photos to photobucket but we've gotten some wonderful packages in the mail the last few weeks! It's because of these packages that have gotten the girls excited and talking about the trip. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I truly mean that!!!!

This week is busy. Kids go back to pre-school, dance starts up again, and Emy has her 3 month tests to make sure she's still cancer free. Wednesday will be a long day as she'll have to be NPO after 7AM but she doesn't have any tests until 12. She has a MRI, CT scan and chest xray all in the same day! I expect the hosptial visit will be 5-6 hours long. :sad1: Here is hoping we'll get the results BEFORE the weekend!!!!

I'll be back soon..... Hopefully with PICTURES!!!!

I forgot to add some drama about our trip.

Remember how I said that my MIL was coming with us? We are paying for her separately (MAW does not pay for those that do not live in the house and frankly, this is our way of saying thank you AND it was part of Emily's wish the "nana" come along) but MAW booked her room with our ressies (and happens to have Emy in her room for booking purposes..)

Well, we asked MAW what flight we would be on and their response was, "It's always the first flight out of DFW." Ok, so about six weeks ago, I booked my MIL a one way flight (she's spending time in FL after our trip) on the first AA flight out of dallas. .

So, imagine my surprise, when I looked at our ressies online through DisneyCruise.com and saw that alas, our flights were booked. HOWEVER, they're the SECOND flight of the day, NOT the first, that my MIL is booked on!!! HOLY YOU KNOW WHAT!!:scared1:

Not to mention... my ressies are all under my MAIDEN name not my married name. What happened was that they used my passport which they didn't realize has an addendum at the BACK with the correct name. I explained this to the travel dept. when I saw this orginally a few months back however, I was told it wouldn't be a problem. Now I'm starting to worry!!!

So... I contacted MAW and they are looking into getting my MIL flight's changed. I hope it happens this week.. I'm stressed out that we're on the second flight anyway, b/c it doesn't get us into MCO until 12:20P, then add an hour drive down to port, we're looking at maybe 2PM before we make it to the boat....:sad2: What if there are delays? I'm such a planner, worrier, that it just KILLS me to be there so LATE!!! ACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!

Yikes...sounds like a lot of stress!!!

I hope you get it all worked out. We did have to "go behind" and check some on things that were planned. In our case, they were used to planning for a child that can walk or use a push chair and her 400 pound power chair was not something they had dealt with...

anyway...my point is...feel free and don't feel bad about checking behind them to make sure everything is perfect for your trip!! Well, not perfect, no trip is...but as close to perfect as possible!!!!

You guys are going to have a blast! :)

So we've received five packages in the last few weeks!! Again, I'm so sorry that I didn't update earlier. When we got the first package, I think it was around the time that Emily was taken to the ER... :( She got sick and just couldn't keep anything down for two days. She wasn't active, or even moving around much so DH took her to the ER. Here's a pic of her DH took about 11PM that night in the ER. Isn't she adorable half asleep?
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/Dec16_0004.jpg

Anywho.. the girls got some wonderful Dreams ears from Kristi and Allie! They were so excited!!! They put them immediately on when i didn't have a camera around. :( So I don't have a pic! I will get one this week! They're awesome ears!! Silver and blue!!! SWEEET! This started the excitement for the disney boat!!!

The next package from Jill R****** we received DH opened when I was at work. Luckily he realized enough that he wasn't to GIVE anythign out until I got home to document it! LOL! :rotfl2: Here is Emy looking what came out of the envelope:

Emy handing over Sami's:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/P1050951.jpg
Emy showing me it's ARIEL! ARIEL! MY FAVORITE!!! (not kidding folks..):rotfl:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/P1050952.jpg
Then them together:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/P1050955.jpg

They are so excited about these books! They are WONDERFUL! Emy even saw all the characters in the back to which her sister lamented she didn't have that. Of course Emy then showed her where her characters were! LoL! Seriously Jill. These are wonderful!!!!!!!

The next package was from Mary B. This one I didn't have my big camera but I did have my camera phone with me...

Here's Emily looking in the envelope:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/IMG00009-20081220-0840.jpg
Letting her sister reach in:

Emy holding all of the bracelets:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/IMG00013-20081220-0844.jpg
And here is one on my wrist that the girls insisted I try then and there:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/IMG00014-20081220-0845.jpg

The bracelets are BEAUTIFUL!! WOW! The girls are were excited and immediately asked me if they could wear them with their dresses for dinner (I told them they were dressing up for dinner time, which they love!!) and I said yes. You should have HEARD the screams in my house!! :lmao:

The next box arrived and thankfully this time DH waited until I got home! (Do you think he's learning??? :lmao: ) It was from Mrs. Bruce B****.
Emily was so excited because it was addressed to Princess Emily!!! (BTW, that was so cute to do!!!)
Here is Emily opening the box:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/xmas013.jpg
Here is she is getting a cool journal out:

DH & Sami getting into the act:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/xmas016.jpg

Now, in this box were some "do rags" or bandanas. We immediately put one on Sami:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/xmas007.jpg
DH decided to get in the act but he has a rather large head and the one left didn't fit so we switched Sami's to his and gave sami the new one:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/xmas008.jpg
ANd one with pirate faces:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/xmas010.jpg
However, there was not to be an evening free of drama. Emy got upset that Sami wanted to look at "her stuff" and had a meltdown:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/xmas020.jpg
So DH and I decided that was the end of the pictures for the night.. 'cept for one taken by Sami (who's 3...)

Our last package arrived on Friday from Glenda C. (I think. Maybe it was Saturday? My days are running together since being on vacation! :rotfl: ). Our postal carrier likes to leave packages on our front porch, rather than put them in the lock box down the street. Emily saw the package and immediately asked if it was for her! What am I going to do once this trip is over?:lmao:

We took a look at the address label and it was addressed to the Jones Family and DH proceeded to take the box from me while I went to get my camera.

Here’s DH telling Sami if she wants the box she has to pay him ::yes:: :

They LOVED the stuff. They received coloring books, note pads, activity books, light up keychains and crayon rolls. The LOVE the keychains (how cool!) and immediately started coloring!! The rolls were made with their favorite colors (Sami Pink/Emy Yellow) and the packages were wrapped that way too!!! Those little details did not go unnoticed by them. :cloud9: Those crayon rolls are awesome and last night I took all the stuff and put it in our packing room (i.e. guest bedroom) to keep safe until we leave! I’m so happy to have stuff for them for the plane ride!!

As for the flight, yea, I'm NOT crazy about the time AT ALL. I though someone told me you needed to be IN Orlando by 12 noon the day of departure but I don't remember who/where I got that tidbit. I am determined not to stress, since this is supposed to be FUN AND Disney was the one that booked our flights so it'll have to be ok, right????:scared:

Sami immediately started coloring but I got her to say “thank you” before she got too involved:

And Emy saying thank you:

I'm so glad they liked their goodies - thanks for posting these wonderful pictures! Your little princesses just light up the world with their smiles. Hope your cruise is just amazing!

We picked out a couple dresses out of their closet this weekend to decide which to take. They both got dress shoes (black patent shoes) in December and are so excited to wear them. They have heels on them and they both say they want to wear their "high heel" shoes on teh boat....:lmao:

As for the flight, yea, I'm NOT crazy about the time AT ALL. I though someone told me you needed to be IN Orlando by 12 noon the day of departure but I don't remember who/where I got that tidbit. I am determined not to stress, since this is supposed to be FUN AND Disney was the one that booked our flights so it'll have to be ok, right????:scared:

I think I used to say the same thing about my black patent shoes when I was a little girl!

I'll keep my fingers crossed that there are no delays and you're on that ship ASAP!

I've been following along and wanted to say thanks for sharing your story. You'll be surprised how many people you've touched by the time you are done. And I wanted to quickly (as quickly as possible) relay a story that tells how wonderful MAW is and DCL and these boards. Strangely enough our MAW story is about our Goddaughter who had - you guessed it - a Wilm's tumor. She was diagnosed late in the time to get it - she was nearly ten, in 2003. But by the time they found out she had it, one kidney was completely consumed and the tumor was huge. They opened her up immediately, and then closed her up again immediately as it was too large to deal with before chemo. Thankfully the other kidney was not affected. After a shorter amount of chemo than they thought they would need, they operated and removed a 9x9x10 in. tumor. Did I mention huge? She went through chemo and radiation and infections etc etc. But was pronounced NED a little over a year later, right before her MAW cruise. Well, we have been cruising for years with DCL and were actually leaving on a 7 day cruise the day before her 4 day. We were so sad that it didn't quite work out that we could have switched things around to be together. Well, then came hurricane Jeanne. We left for our cruise only to find out it wasn't going to leave until Monday! and the MAW cruise was going to be seriously curtailed. I suggested that they check with MAW to see if they could get transferred to the now 4 day cruise we were on so they wouldn't miss so much of their cruise time and then we could be together. Well MAW said no problem, but there were no cabins available. So we alerted the boards. If anyone was going to cancel because of the hurricane, could they designate their cabins for this family. DONE! Almost immediately someone gave them their rooms. Before we knew it everything was set. :yay: Except now every which way to get to FL from SC (where our Goddaughter lives) was being blocked by the hurricane. Airports were closing. Roads were bad. We kept posting on the boards as challenges came up. Finally we all resigned ourselves that they couldn't get there. :sad1: Then Saturday night at 11 pm our friends got a call. It was DCL! They had been following the thread and said they were going to get them on that ship! :wizard: They arranged the transportation and actually got them there through all that mess! It was an amazing thing to watch all those people come together to make Annie's wish come true. Which actually had been that we could ALL go on a cruise together! So the Hurricane that brought misery to so many actually turned out to be a real blessing for our familes! Annie is still today NED and a blessing to all those around her. I pray for your happy ending as well! May her smile light up the world in ways you never before even dreamed! Have a magnificent cruise!

I'll keep my fingers crossed that there are no delays and you're on that ship ASAP! :rotfl2: I loved dressy shoes and DH rolls his eyes everytime the girls talk about dressing up.

Reminds me of something from the other night. Emy has been getting into having her nails painted. Earlier I mentioned getting my nails painted before I leave and she asked if she could get hers done too. I said of course. So the other night at dinner she said, "Mommy, we're still going to get our nails done before we leave, right?" :rotfl: DH was just rolling his eyes and saying NO! She's too young!!! :lmao: Doesn't he realize I'm training them to be princesses EARLY in life?

11 Days to go and I'm a little stressed. :(

Today is Emily's 3 month check up and renal scan. Because of her predisposition to tumors, her follow up protocal is a little different than most Wilms patients. Instead of CT, she has an MRI. Well, for a CT, Emy can stay still but an MRI she must be sedated. That is what always gets me in a tizzy. DH and I always seem to go through some sort of discussion on who's taking Emily to her tests because when she wakes up, she wants me. However, we do try to switch off when we don't have anyone to watch our youngest. Today is my day to stay home. :sad1: Our friends who can watch Sami are going to be at the hosptial so I'm going to watch Sami and pick up her son this afternoon from school. She is having the whole shebang today: chest xray, CT (not sure why?) and MRI plus blood work starting at 1:30. LOOOOONG day for her as she has to be NPO (since 7AM). Since she had her port out, she gets quite stressed about having an IV placed. We're working on getting her some sort of sedative to help ease her anxiety. :( Just waiting now...

On another note, MAW contacted me and are planning her send off dinner for next (1/16) at her favorite restaurant, Babe's Chicken House. We haven't told her yet as I'm waiting to find out more. Good thing is my MIL comes in that afternoon so she'll be able to come too!!!

One thing that bothers me is we won't get our travel docs until that night. As a uber OCD planner, that makes me nervous because what if something is wrong? It'll be a Friday night with little to nothing we could do before we leave on Sunday. Do I ask our granters for the travel docs now and they can hold the spending money and wish packet for Emily until the dinner? :confused3

Also, to get to the airport, we'll be given a ticket for the Park 'N Fly. We've never done that before and I'm conerned about logisitics and leaving our car somewhere strange. I'll need to look into it.

Hello!

I know today is going to be a long and stressful day for both you and your daughter, that's why I'm sending prayers your way! I, myself have been through the never-ending sequence of MRI/CT/chest x-ray/bloodwork headache and even I (at nearly 30 years old) can't handle it! Your sweet little daughter is so brave. princess: And I know you'll be brave for her.

The best remedy for you right now is to continue the obsessive trip planning! That will keep your mind off all the medical junk, right?!

Sending prayers and hugs  your way...

I am a planner as well, we were told we wouldn't get anything until Nick's party either.. altho Nick's party is Friday and we don't leave until the 19th so there was more room to plan. I never did actually say anything but the couple of times that I met our WISH coordinator we talked about me needing to "plan" out every detail and one day she just emailed me Nick's itinerary. She said.. she knew how much I needed something to plan off of so here ya go. :lovestruc I love her.

I don't think it will hurt to ask for an advance copy. We were told just to make sure to not use any of the flight numbers or anything off it since they can (and have) changed.

That would freak me out. I think that MAW thinks that the parents should not have to plan anything...that all will be taken care of by MAW...so that the parents "don't have to worry about anything"...At least that is what they told me. I got by asking stuff since I was her "caregiver"... But it would have driven me crazy not to know. We had that stuff planned so far in advance! We had to coordinate with her school, too, on the timing, etc.

Let us know how all of that worked out!!!! :)

Yes...I just have to give myself a "turn off the computer time"...I missed it last night by about an hour...and am paying for it today. I have to be at work at 7:00 am...so my day starts pretty early, too. So if you figure out how to fix that problem, let me know! ;)

I don't think there's a better way to celebrate NED than being on DCL :) Have a safe and happy trip. As for your concerns about your flights, because the flights are booked through DCL, even if there are delays, they won't sail without you... we recently sailed and left Port Canaveral late because of some delayed flights. Once you get to Orlando, you can be at the Port in just over an hour - so you have plenty of time.

Can't wait to read about your trip!

It's funny how much they loved 'em b'c even though it was 40something degrees outside Emy REFUSED to put a shirt underneath while she wore it the rest of the evening! :rotfl: I'm walking around in pants, sweater AND jacket/sweatshirt and here's my daughter in a Sundress! HAHAHAHAHAH!!! It was too cute!!

I found it at Hancock Fabrics and it screamed Disney Cruise line, so I had to buy some in the hopes I'd be able to make something for someone going on a cruise. 2 days later your big give came up and I was very excited to get to use it almost immediatly. I hope your cruise is great. I want to go on a Disney Cruise someday. Maybe in a few years.

I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason (hence the reason I lived with a burst appendix for a week...) so that is too funny that you bought it and our big give was next!! Next up… Another package! I love the days when I am home and a package is still left on the porch (ie kids/DH haven’t seen it yet! LOL). This was one of those days.

I was sitting down and the kids were around me so I didn’t get as good of pics as I would have liked but here is Emy opening hers:

There was a shirt in there for me AND my DMIL! How super super super cool! They are awesome!! And personalized!!!! If you can’t read it, it says: “Make A Wish” with the wish being a picture of the boat. In the top left of each shirt is a mickey head (that looks like water!) with each of our names (Emy, Sami, Dad, Nana, Mom)

The girls even got little bags with their favorite characters in the favorite colors too! They are adorable!!!

So, I really wanted to do a Fish Extender gift exchange on the boat. I figured the girls would really love coming back to their room and seeing all sorts of fun things in it. So I ordered one. I figured, I’m allowed to splurge, a LITTLE right?

ETA- In case you might not know, on the cruise boards there is usually a thread where you can met your fellow DIScruisers. Some set up gift exchanges where you sign up to bring a gift and you deliver it to each of the rooms that are participating. It’s just a little extra fun/magic/pixie dust for your cruise.

So, what comes in the mail? The FE:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/Big%20Give/dclstuff076.jpg

I’ve got to get a better pic of it. It’s all embroidered and ADORABLE!! Notice, it doesn’t say “Wish trip.” I’m hoping that I can convince DH to take another cruise with Mickey in the future, if this one is enjoyed by all. :teeth: !!

The fun part? In the package, she gave the girls each a pillow case. If you haven’t been on a cruise, you may not know that you can give a pillow case (or any item) to guest services and they’ll have all the characters sign it! So she embroidered the girls names with a princess Minnie on each of them. I already have the fabric markers so they’re set!!!

I am not sure all the Disboutiquers really know how much your packages, gifts and creativity have added to the excitement of the trip. Truly, my girls were not excited about the trip until the packages started coming. It’s because of YOU guys that they have seriously gotten pumped about the trip!!

Ok, so the girls have all their clothes packed. Now I need to pack and get all my stuff together! I hope to do that tonight. It’ll be lots of trying on and seeing what fits! LOL!

Our wish granters emailed me last week to ask me what time would be good for Emy’s “Bon Voyage” party at Babes. I told her 5PM. It’s early enough to beat the dinner crowd and still have some night left after eating dinner. She said she’d love for DMIL to come, if she could. No mention of inviting anyone else. :sad2:

So this weekend, we figured it wouldn’t be a big deal for us to invite a friend couple who has helped us out immensely during all of Emy’s surgeries, treatments etc. My girls call them Uncle & Aunt :goodvibes: I figured I better let our Wish Granters know so I emailed them today.

They said that Babe’s was graciously donating dinner for all 7 of us (Me, DH, Emy, Sami, DMIL + our 2 wish granters) and that she’d better ask if two more folks could come. I did get a go ahead that it was fine that they attend and that Babe’s is excited to host Emily’s party.

So I guess Emy not having other “little” friends there (i.e. her school friends) isn’t a big deal?

Looking into packing now made me realize we haven’t flown anywhere since coming home from Emy’s last surgery in NY in July (the other two were here at home). : Since then, baggage fees have been instituted and it’s now $15 PER 1st Bag on American, $25 for the 2nd bag! HOLY SMOKES!! :scared1: Now I have to budget at least $30 (Girls and I will have one suitcase and DH will have another) for luggage. This bugs me that the first bag ISN’T free. :sad2:

I can't believe you're not getting the first bag free- that stinks! Airfare is just crazy. I'm looking at it for my May trip and it's about $50 more right now than I paid last year on June 1st. It's like they made all these new policies and prices when gas was $$$$$$$$$ and now that gas is $ they have just kept everything in place. I wonder what will happen this spring....

Anyway, sounds like the party will be great, I am sure it will be ok that there are no other kids- they have each other, and THEY can be the center of the universe for the night!!:thumbsup2

Wow...and that's $15 each way so that's $60 more! I can't believe they do that! You are allowed one carry on per passenger for free. Are you taking advantage of that? You might be able to get away with one BIG suitcase and 4 carry ons...not sure if the hassle is worth $15 though.

I get so annoyed with the baggage fees. I think that is one of the many reasons I typically only fly Southwest. I have taken to having to check baggage requirements to add the price of bags to tickets when comparing and that just drives me nuts.

I'm glad your pre-trip party is set. That should be lots of fun. I'm glad the girls are getting excited about their trip now too.

Our send off party might make you feel better...

They just came over to Lauren's house to give us our stuff (check, driving directions, etc). Lauren was in the middle of homework...and kept on doing it (have I mentioned that she is so concientious!)...bless her heart...she was about to miss a week of school! :)

They brought a cake and some balloons and a whole basket full of goodies - for Lauren! William got all upset and ran out of the room because he didn't get anything. We had been telling him the whole time that the trip was for "the family" because Lauren had been kind enough to let us share it. But MAW is big on it being a special trip specifically for the Wish Child (which is true, and should be true, but we were not prepared in telling William this important fact!)...

So...Lauren is doing homework. William is all red-faced and crying. Lisa and Rick are upset because nothing is going like they want it to. I am just trying to figure out what I am supposed to do? Help Lauren with homework? Help keep Lisa sane? Talk to these poor wish granters?

Then all went fine...we took pictures together (once we peeled Lauren off of her homework and dried William's tears)...and had cake (for supper!)...got all of our expense stuff (which was a big relief!)...and all was well that ended well...

But figured that might cheer ya up a little. Not all states offer the big send of parties! :) We didn't get a limo either. But we got a makeover for Lauren (which was expensive) and MNSSHP...and the whole rainbow deal (which could have completely substituted for all of it)...and we had enough MAW money to cover all of our expenses...and a little to spare since we spent the day in the room one of our days. It was cool! Just different.

You guys will have a good time! :) Maybe you could throw a party for all of her friends when you get back. And show pictures in a "slide show" format...and have cake...and ice cream. Nothing too expensive...but invite everyone over to celebrate her trip! And she can tell all of her stories, etc!! :) PARTY!!!!

If you are getting an expense check, allowances may have been made for your luggage on the plane.

Not long now!! I hope you all have a really great time and that you take lots of photo's to show us of your adventures.
As Maroo said, we havent had cruise MAW trip reports before so we are all very interested in yours :) :)

Edited to add Bon Voyage:

Bon Voyage

Emily was so excited that her going away party was going to be at Babe’s. For those of you not in the DFW area, Babe’s is a pretty well known restaurant that serves only a few entrees: Chicken fingers, fried chicken, friend catfish, pot roast, chicken fried steak and smoked chicken. They do family size sides (green beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and an awesome iceburg salad, which my kids LOVE!) with biscuts. I’m not sure why exactly she loves this place, but she does.

So, we scheduled the party for 5PM (when it opens). We figured since it was a Friday night, we needed to get in and out quickly! The earlier the better. DMIL came in that afternoon and we had a few friends meet us there as well (another Wilms family). Babe’s donated the dinner and I made sure to talk to the manager to let her know how much it meant to us to be able to have her party here.

Walking to the party:
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2558.jpg

Sami has to sit on at least one of these (even though we didn’t have to wait…)

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2560.jpg

And then of course, so does Emily:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2561.jpg

Walked in the door and our wish granters were there ready to greet Emy and Samantha:

Arghhhh.. I posted, and it is not there. Live and learn.

Day 1 01/18/09

DMIL gets up at 4 am (no joke), DH by 5, me by 5:15A. Emily hears us all and is awake by 5:30. (remember, our flight isn’t until 8:55A, and we live 15-20 mins from the airport! :rotfl: ).

Emily takes the last link off our countdown chain

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2611.jpg

By 6:30A, we’re ready to roll! Off to the Park N’ Fly stop, space 3-50 and a courtesy van picks us up immediately to take us to the airport:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2615.jpg

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2617.jpg

Once in airport, paid for our luggage ($45!) and through the ONE security line (the other machine was broken..) we wait. And wait. Did I mention we were early? Like 7AM early??????

So, DMIL takes Emily to the pretzel place and comes back with pretzels and lemondate and a coffee (Pepermint Mocha anyone) for me. Emily eating hers:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2621.jpg

Samantha with hers:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2622.jpg

While we’re enjoying our pretzels, a young lady came over to us and asked if we were on a Wish trip (hmmmm… was it the t-shirt that gave it away???:upsidedow ). We got to chatting and she went on HER wish trip to GTKTW 16 years ago! :thumbsup2 She was a cancer survivor (rhabdo) and was super sweet! She was a beauty pageant participant on the way to Orlando with her Dad to go to Disney World (they are DVC members).

On airplane, the girls sat with DMIL and Jim and I sat across from them:

Not sure what is going on with Sami’s attitude here…

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2626.jpg

And after take off, the most amazing thing comes out of hiding. The DVD player!:cheer2:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2628.jpg

Family portrait (if you look hard, you can see all of us in the pic..)

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2630.jpg

Flight was great, mostly uneventful ‘cept for the spilled coffee on my shirt and jacket. The flight attendant saw our t-shirts and offered us cheese trays and a big cookie (which incidentally went straight to the girls!) :rotfl2: Yum.

Landed and went straight to the DCL counter. Since we didn’t have to pick up our luggage (it magically appears in our stateroom), all we had to do was wait in line for the next bus. Sami got a little out of control (who could blame her after a 2 ½ hour plane ride? :rolleyes2 ) so Jim picked her up to hold on to her! ::yes::

Bus came WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOO and this is what we saw pixiedust: :
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2636.jpg

Funny thing…. I’m raising a future scrapbooker b/c at the same time I saw this sign (and was getting camera ready) Emy made sure to tell me, “Mommy, make sure you take a picture of that!” LOL!:lmao:

All on the bus ready to go:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2640.jpg

And thankfully since it was a 50 minute drive to the boat, they had these on board to keep the kiddo’s attention..

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2642.jpg

Eventually we saw this outside our window:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2644.jpg

And that brought this reaction:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2645.jpg

Don’t think she was excited enough! :lmao:

Next up, security, check in and our room…

Once you come off the bus, you have to go through security (very similar to the airport’s). Emily didn’t quite understand why we weren’t already on the boat and that we had to go through security again! :confused3 Check in was next… I kept an eye on the kids while Jim went to check in (CM saw jim’s shirt and sent him to a no line waiting.. ). Sami again was out of control and I finally corralled both of them in front of the model boat for a pic. Who’s a happy camper here????:sad2:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2653.jpg

Finally, our room keys (Keys to the World – KTTW) , pictures taken and onto the boat… Which by the way, you really don’t realize you’re coming onto a boat. Seems like you’re just walking into a building! Obligatory picture:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/WonderEmbarkation.jpg

We were told when we boarded that our room was ready (how did they know?? :teeth:) and we headed down the long hallways to find it:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2656.jpg

Here it is!!

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_3163.jpg

Into our rooms (adjoining) and what do we find on the bed in Emily’s room (she’s registered with DMIL, while Sami is registered with Jim and I in the other room)

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2658.jpg

And of course, in DMIL’s room there is a bunk bed and what child can resist climbing up???
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2663.jpg

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2664.jpg

By this time It’s after 2:30 so we’ve got to find something to eat. Up to Beach Blanket for the buffet. Knowing that we have dinner in just a few hours (5:45P, main dining rotation), we were told by DH to go easy on lunch. Hard to do when you see such wonderful things! I got a little bit of Strawberry Mint soup which the girls promptly devoured!

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2665.jpg

We decided to wander just a bit before we had to head to the room for the asafety drill. Here was the Mickey Pool. Does it seem a little yellow to you? :rolleyes2

Thanks for sharing Emily's story. She is so strong. I cried thru it. I have a friend (lol, an internet friend) who's 8 month old baby girl had bilateral wilms as well, she went to St Judes and is now in remission! Go Kelly! :)

They live close to WDW and we hope to get to meet them during Nick's MAW trip.

I can't wait to hear more of your PTR.

And I bet your friend's name is Dawn! Small world! (Wilms' is usually found in toddler or older children, so she and I became fast friends, both being nursing-infant-bilateral-Wilms'-moms.)

It was time to get ready for the safety drill. Want to see the latest craze? :lmao: It’s a beautiful shade of orange:

And the family photo:

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u50/iu97alum/MAW%20DCL/IMG_2680.jpg

Now it was back to the room (see a trend forming here???) to get rid of our fashionable accessories in a hurry to get to the sail away party. Emily in her fashionista way, wants to change clothes of course (I’m HOT Mommy.. Standing in the sun for 15 mintues didn’t help it during the drill). So I let her change. Hmmmm what did she pick???:upsidedow

Here at the sail away party. THIS smile is what made the trip all worth it:

Time to go to the room (AGAIN) and get ready for dinner at Triton’s (French flair food) but before changing Emy had to watch the boat leave the dock. This is one of my favorite pics from the trip:

The best part about the Ariel screen over the Goofy pool is at night they show movies up on the screen - grab a snack and a drink and hang out like it's a drive in movie... (usually just classic Disney movies, but they did show some of the premieres there when we were on the Repo cruise...)

Things have really been crazy (good!) in our house. Haven't taken a breather and proably won't until Middle of June after our NJ trip!

Emily was in the Children's Cancer Fund Fashion Show (model and calendar artist), did an interview for that too (here's the link (http://www.the33tv.com/community/dfwcloseup/) look for 4/19 Children's Cancer Fund), met Jeff Gordon and was in a commerical with him for his foundation (here's the commerical on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJSxZkJdzPY)) and DH gave a speech (with me by his side) for Make A Wish's Wish Night Gala! Add to that strep and some minor medical issues with me, we've been SWAMPED!

I will make it back to finish the report! I think it's important for those that might wish for a cruise to see what can happen!!! :)

that's nice
