Friday update...hope everyone had a good Halloween. Not as many trick or treaters this year. Maybe because it was a Friday and there were lots of parties going on? Lots of little Princesses, a few pirates, a Spider Man with eyes that lit up and the occasional teen with a mask begging for candy. For me, I did really good this year, only a few snack size candy bars instead of the bag or two like last year.

30 mins bike/5.98 miles

Ladies, any recommendations on running capris in black with pockets? I bought a pair at Wal Mart and while I like them, the elastic on the waistband is not tight so it feels like the pants are going to fall down and the legs are very wide so the extra fabric flaps in the wind.

On a good note, I just signed up for another local 5K for Sunday the 9th!

Have a great weekend everyone.

6 miles with Team in Training. Subtracting out our Gatorade stops, it took us about 1:15:00. Oh, plus some "hill work" last night... Trick-or-treating in my neighborhood is not for the feint of heart!

I bought my favorite pair at Marshalls. I think they are yoga capris but they are super comfy. I wear them for everything!

Ooops I found the November thread! I will post my mileage again so you don't have to double back Lisa:

16 miles in 2:50. We ran hills almost the whole way and it was brutal. Too make it worse, I had to race to my sons football game immediately after. No stretching, no shower, but Dh did pack me dry clothes God love him. They won in TRIPLE overtime. I am certain that my legs are now bleeding internally, but it was a great game.

Mike! Wow! thats jumping right back in. I hope the knee is ok.

Suzanne - No recommendations but my running partner takes all her tights to a lady that converts them to a drawstring waist for her. That might be an option.

Lisa - I think Joanne is planning on doing Goofy too. Or did that change after MCM?

Take care everyone.

Since it was so nice here in NJ this afternoon (in the upper 60's) and since the NYC marathon is tomorrow morning (I want to go watch)....I decided to get my LR in this afternoon. I did 12 miles, and I have to say, at the end, I didn't really feel that tired! This is the first time in a LOOOONG time that I felt great for my whole LR....let's hope it stays that way!!

12 miles/2:24 min

Tomorrow morning I am going to head in to the city to watch the NYC marathon, I really wish I was running, but hopefully it will get me even more excited for the Goofy! I do know a few people running, so it will be fun to see them run.

Suzanne--I get all my running pants from Road Runner Sports. I used to order them online all the time, but they recently opened a store right down the street from where I live. The have a wide range of styles, and they are great quality.

Mike--Great job on your 7 miler. Hope the knee is feeling good. Just take it easy and don't push it too hard coming back.

Cecilia--Awesome job on your 16 miler!! That is a great time and with hills too...I can only dream about being that fast these days. I can't seem to get much faster than 12 mpm on my LR's these days.

To all the other Super Goofs---Keep up the great work!!!!

Good morning Goofs!!!! I see everyone is out there hitting November hard and fast....:cheer2: Great job!!

Could everyone PM me your addresses? I would love to send Christmas cards to you all!!! :santa: Yes, I am in Christmas mode. I went and did most of my final shopping yesterday. I HAD to go to American Eagle as DD13 (and me too) shop there almost exclusively and it was buy one get the other 1/2 off on anything and everything in the store. Being that her birthday is 12/22, I was well worth the trip!! I saved almost $100 if that tells you anything at all....:scared1: The good news/bad news is that she is wearing my size clothes now so I get to borrow....of course so does she....:sad2:

Suzanne: Title Nine Sports quicker knicker for me. It has a zip pocket in the back that is unobtrusive and works great for my iPod, phone, keys, etcetera. Unfortunately if you wear a water bottle, it will interfere. I have pockets in the water bottle belt so I opt for those when I wear it on long runs. The knickers have the tighter bottoms though which do bind on my extra thick legs a little. I had to modify some. Also, Erica (Windwalker's DW) posted that she has been modifying her running skirts with a shoelace thread through the waistband. This may work for you too with the capris. My other 2 pairs of capris are a Nike and a NB and neither have pockets which makes me  because they are VERY comfortable.

Mike: Glad to see you back on the road but be careful. We like you around here....we'd like to keep ya!!!

Wow, lots of long runs yesterday. Mine is today 8-9 miles. I am hoping that I feel better about it than Friday's run. I was very complacent, not fast, just doing it for the sake of doing it. I never really enjoyed myself. Odd for me but it happens. Hunting season started yesterday here and that makes my outside runs more limited. I have 2 orange running shirts but with the colder weather, I have to wear a jacket a lot and they all have white on them. :scared: All my long runs are on Sunday which is a good thing. I hate LR on the TM!! Hence my apprehension in full training over the winter...:headache: Still talking it over with Mike. As of right now, he is a thumbs down but I am hoping during my LR I will come up with something good to say.

Take care and keep up the good work everyone. :dance3:

Cecelia: Awesome job on the long run!

Hockey Girl: Enjoy the NYC Marathon...don't sweat the speed thing...speed develops with technique and training...can't rush it.

Lisa:Get yourself an orange hat and orange gloves, too! My favorite piece of hunting gear...which works wonderfully while running in winter (and for visibility) is a blaze orange balaclava.

Knee feels great this morning, so I'm going to make sure that I ease back in, rather than diving in like yesterday. I didn't intend to do 7,but it felt SO good to be back out that I couldn't help myself.

Today's a big day, donating blood at the synagogue, then taking my littlest guy out to the woods to practice stalking deer...we found some HUGE tracks and rubs last week. Also w e got to within 30 yards of a nice 8 point buck last week, so I'm bringing the camcorder to prove it to my hunting buddies that the 4 year old kicks their butt in forest skills!

Anyone? I have a Minnie Medal from this year, I was adding my newest medal to my curtain rod, and noticed that the Minnie medal is developing spots, this is not acceptable to me! I dont know what is causing them, they wont wipe off, and I'm afraid my medal is getting destroyed. Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do?

Hey there Super Goofs!! Happy Sunday! Just got back a little while ago from NYC, I went in to watch the NYC Marathon. All I have to say is watching the marathon is not nearly as much fun as running. I wanted to run it this year and got denied in the lottery process, as it is so hard to get into the race. I took the bus into the city early this morning and headed to Central Park, near Columbus Circle, which is right at the end of the race, as they turn one last time and head to the finish. I really wanted to see the leaders of the men's and women's races. I got to see Paula Radcliff fly by, and I was amazed she was so far ahead of the others, but it was cool to see an American woman in the top three. The men's finish wasn't too exciting either since the leader came by alone as well. It definetely was cool to see the end of the race. Stupid me remembered on the bus about half way to the city that I forgot my camera, so unfortunately no pics this time. It definetely was cool and I now I am super excited for WDW, I can't wait to run again!!

No running on tap for me today, just a hockey game tonight.

Suzanne--As always, you are so consistent in getting in your workouts. Keep up the great work!!

lisa--Since you are done with your christmas shopping..can you come down to NJ and do mine!!! I am such a slacker when it comes to this stuff. With all the wedding planning, I can't even begin to think about christmas presents.

Mike-Glad to hear the knee is feeling great! Sounds like fun for you and your son going in the woods. My BIL really wants to take my nephew out into the woods but my sister doesn't want him too...lol! I keep telling my sister to just let him go!

Angie--I have no idea why that would be happening to your medal, but I sure would be mad if it happened to mine. I just looked at all my medals that I have from various races, and I don't see anything like that. Maybe you can call Disney and tell them what is happening to yours, and see what they say....just a thought.

Hope everyone has a great day! It is time to go put away my laundry and get ready for the NASCAR race...GO DALE JR!!!!!

I am getting together a group of my girlfriends to run MCM again with me in 2009. Anyone here on board?
Lisa- don't forget my offer. Remind Mike how much money he will be saving. Plus our fearless leader should be at the WISH meet and greet to collect our prize!

Good morning Goofs. A little slow on the draw this morning. Had to chase cows all day yesterday trying to put 2 in the trailer for the butcher. We only got one in late last night and have to do it AGAIN today. Prolonging the agony for me. Organic beef (as in we know what we feed it) is well worth it but it still tugs at my heartstrings.

I did get 7 miles in yesterday. I averaged a 10:22 pace which is not bad for not having run for a week. Today is 3-5 and the gym depending on how the steer cooperates this morning. So far, no go but the day is young....and cold. I nearly froze to death last night in the pasture. Mucking boots are great for keeping your feet dry but not so much warm.

Joanne, yes, it is under consideration in my household. I have it on good information that the bracelet will not be released though no matter what so the elusive third medal may be out even if I complete it.

If anyone would like the addresses of the other members that I have gotten, let me know and I will do a group PM so we can all exchange cards this year. A little gesture in closure of our game. Who knows if this will go on next year and/or if the teams will be mixed up a little. I have to say, I think it has been fun, friendships formed and others made stronger. I have also gotten out of my element and done races in places I would not have otherwise.

Too all the Goofs out there: Good morning, good morning. I am off and on today wrestling with computer connection issues. Forgive me for my absence. I am still here in spirit.

Have a great day everyone!!!! :goodvibes

So, work Saturday night till 11:30pm, home at midnight, up for the race Sunday morning, nap early afternoon and work again Sunday night. :faint: What was I thinking? Happy Monday, all! It is for me becasue I too the day off, and get tomorrow off, so it's a 4-day weekend!

Saturday did 1 hour of XT.

Sunday did a local 5k trail race. Not big, and I finished in 27:40, which was good enough to win my 40-49 age group!

Today, 60 minutes of weights and stretching (an another 90 minutes waling the dog! He is finally out for a nap!)

Feels like time is flying by and before you know it January will be here. I am juggling 3 Disney reservations trying to get the room I want at the price I want. Missing one night......:sad2:

Everyone have a great day!

Good morning Super Goofs and HAPPY ELECTION DAY. I hope that you all are going to get out there and cast your vote to be part of history!!!!!popcorn::

As for me, I did my 3 miles yesterday at a 9:50 average pace. I also did weight training for a half hour including abs. Today is 4-5 miles. I am going to try running to our local polling place, voting and then running home. Hopefully I do not run out of time and have to leave to pick up DS7 and his cousin!! :upsidedow I have decided to ramp up my long runs in anticipation of possibly going to WDW in January. Still talking it over with DH but all I get is "you're crazy" which may be true....:rolleyes1 He also told me I was crazy last January doing the half. I guess 3 more halves later, he realizes this is a permanent fixture in our home!!.

I am working on redoing my office. I am going bold and painting the walls a deep eggplant color (they are currently a very light green). I have yellow curtains, a white desk and chair and now I need to figure out the rest of the plan. It will, of course, include a curtain rod for my medals as I currently have them in a scrapbook and it is a little puffy with them in there!!! I am trying to reuse the many things that have been deposited in my basement from our friend and my mother so I will have to dig around tomorrow and see what treasures I can find.

Keep on moving and going strong Goofs. Anyone with injuries, heal quickly :wizard: we miss you!! If we keep going in the direction that we have been, I foresee victory in our future!!!!!!!!! Spreadsheet update for October soon.....:surfweb:

Hello Super Goofs! I hope everyone had a nice Election day and didn't have to wait too long on those voting lines. I was lucky and only had to wait about 10 mins, which wasn't so bad, since I know people that had to wait 2 hours!!!!!!

Today, i had to go to a conference and do a presentation. It was a fun day and the presentation was great! Now, I have to prepare my next presentation which I will be doing in two weeks at our state physical education conference. I am excited for it, but I have to get moving on figuring out exactly what I am going to do!

As for my workout, I went to the gym despite being exhausted and got in a 3 miler on the treadmill. I wasn't able to run the whole way, I was just too tired, but I got the miles in so I am happy about that!

3 miles/36 min

Suzanne So sorry to hear about your FIL Take care of yourself and family and I hope your trip goes smoothly.

Mike I would be beyond annoyed if I was up that early and then couldn't get my workout in. I guess better safe than sorry, although it just occurred to me that my gym pool has no lifeguard when I swim (which has not been for a while).

I did 4 miles yesterday outdoors--a rare weekday outdoor run, but we had the day off. My knee is starting to bug me again, which is not a good thing.

Today I did an abbreviated XT session so that I could make it to work for a 7 am meeting which then got canceled about 10 minutes in when there wasn't a quorum of people there! So 40 minutes today and 6.5 bike miles.

I'm not feeling too good myself. I spent a few days in Atlantic City (only $100 loss). We took a 1.5 hour walk, probably about 3.5 miles. I was training some new people at work and about half way through my throat starting killing me. I took some Zicam about an hour ago, and I live on vitamin C pills, so I hope that will help me.

Good morning Super Goofs. Today is a fine day to exercise...don't you think???:goodvibes

:wizard: to everyone who is under the weather or nursing your injuries. Mike there is no :wizard: to solve your problem. I would have been :furious:

On the swimming note (mommy brag coming) my DS7 made the local swim team last night. While he is on the noncompetitive team right now, he is very close to being able to compete with the big kids (actually his group is 8 and under). He just needs to learn how to breathe with his crawl stroke and he will be on the competitive team. Not bad for a 7 year old. He asked me on the way home what would keep him stronger, swimming or basketball and I told him swimming of course. Basketball is fun but swimming applies more core and true muscular strength. This summer, he wants to be on the rec track team. Yep, proud mommy moment. That's my boy!!!! :woohoo:

As for me, I went to the gym and did my lower body HIT (high intensity training) routine that I have adopted for the next 6 weeks. I am shooting for definition in my big old runners legs. I wish sometimes that I was built like those lean runners but I have to face facts that I am a beefy girl at heart. I have decided I would rather be strong than lean... I also got in 5 miles yesterday and am staying pretty consistent with my pacing for now. I am planning on ramping up my long run by a couple miles a week in anticipation of the full (still working on it) in January.

Great job getting out everyone. Life is about to get more difficult for us northern snow bunnies so we have to get outside whenever we can now. And remember to wear orange. I feel like a running neon sign!!! :upsidedow

Hi Goofs!

Today I ran 8 miles in 1:19. It should have been esy but I took some cold medicine this morning and I think it made me tired. The run was harder than it shoud have been and made worse because it was so easy for my running buddy.

Funny training moment:
I was looking at the monthly totals in my running log (I use runningahead.com) and lamenting that I had run so few miles in November compared to October. DH looks at it then hits me on the head. I ran 113 miles in October and 38 in November. "Its the 6th you idiot!" Yes, that would explain the difference....

My self- still out with the tendonititis but I am working on the next MCM. I am unable to do much physical activity so I've switched diet plans- Anyone hear of skinny *****? No sugar, dairy or meat. Hopefully the pounds will melt off with this torture!

Yesterday was a ladies outing at the barn. Everyone was doing lots of cool cross country jumps and we walked around- still had a blast (5 hours riding)

Hello Super Goofs!!!!

Another workout day today for me. Since it was raining outside, I headed to the gym for my workout. I did:

3 miles/34:00
15 min stretching

tomorrow is a rest day before my 13 miler on Saturday, then hockey on Sunday. Now that my season has started, I have to move my LR's to Saturday so I can have enough energy to play on sunday night.

Mike--That stinks about the gym! I would be so mad if that happened to me. Luckily my gym is a 24 hour fitness, so I don't have that problem.

ksoerhlein and mla1977--hope the two of you are feeling better soon! Hang in there.

LAST CHANCE WORKOUT DAY is here!!! Get out there and make it count everyone!!!

So, I did it. I booked at AS Movies under the great new deal that WDW came out with. I booked 4 nights, get 2 free, bought a 10-day PH with no expiration pass for cheap as you get the 3 free also there, and a $200 gift card which I can use for food during my visit. All this for $852.82. Not too bad as deals go (okay pretty awesome as deals go). So now I have until the 24th of this month to convice DH that it is my time to go Goofy!

What frightens me about that deal is that on the 24th, it is 45 days to D-Day!!!! :scared1: :scared1:

Yesterday I opted to bike instead of run as it was cold and drizzling rain when I got done work. It was a nice ride albeit a slow one. My legs were pretty toasted from the gym the day before so up hills were a painful ordeal. I just took it slow and steady and tried to enjoy the fact that my legs were burning and it was raining!! I actually had a really great ride. Tonight is 5 more but the rain is still here. It is either bike or TM. I will make the call later when I see what the weather is like. Windwalker/Panda Dave had a great suggestion on his blog to start your run on the TM and then go outside for a short time and finish up on the TM again. I think I can handle that!!

Any positive arguments to convince my DH that I should go in January are welcome. I have tried a number of avenues and so far I am still just getting "the look". :rolleyes1

Have a great day Goofs and get out there and make it count!!!!!

Today is rest day for me. Yesterday I did 4 miles in 36 minutes and some stretching. 45 minutes total.

Yesterday was gorgeous weather here--sunny and 70. Net result was that our office was brutally warm. I thought I was going to fall asleep! Today will be cooler and then we finally get real November weather.

Have a good Friday, all.

No workout for me today, as it is a rest day before my LR tomorrow morning. Then I get to go to Laguardia Airport to pick up my family who is coming home from a week at WDW...I am so jealous!!!

Lisa--Glad to hear you jumped on that great deal being offered right now. If I didn't have to get my Goofy entry through Anthony Travel, I would have been all over that deal! BTW--did you already register for the marathon in Jan? If not, do you have a plan to get one if you go, since it closed out?

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I will try to check in tomorrow.

13 miles/2 hours 33 min for me today. It was a tough run, and I think that had to do with my not eating before I went out...BAD idea! At least I finished the distance.

Now, I am going to rest for a little bit then my fiance and I have to head to the airport to pick up my family who are returning from WDW!!!!

Hi Goofs -

12 miles in 2 hours flat today. Ran the first half fast but slowed way down the next 6 miles. I was supposed to go 18 but I got a call at mile 10 that my dad has slipped into a coma. My sisters need me to go with them to see him one last time so I am taking off tonight to say one final goodbye.

Thats why I haven't been on the boards so much this season. Its been a long journey but I think Dad is ready to go. I am a trained counselor but even being trained to handle crisis like this and having walked this journey with others does not prepare you for going through it yourself. Hopefully, I can help my sisters. We shall see.

Have a great week all! I will check in when I get back.

Morning Goofs.

Cecelia- Sorry about your dad. Take time for you and your family. We all love you here and are sending condolences to you and your family too.

Training wise, I cleaned my office yesterday. If anyone has ever seen an episode of Clean House, that was my office. Apparently you cannot just set things aside for another day and then wait patiently for that day to come. Yesterday I took some action and started cleaning. I still have more to do unfortunately. At least a years worth of filing is sitting piled on my floor for me to undertake after my LR today. I have not looked at the closet disorganization yet, just closed the curtain and moving on for now. If I can unclutter the office itself, I can do the closet on another day. It is mostly gift wrap and Christmas presents at this point so it will HAVE to be cleaned out shortly. :rolleyes1 I have made my New Year's resolution early this year....no more clutter. A place for all and all in its place. I have to do it. My cleaning lady says she goes through everything in her house once a month and if it is collectable, it is important or it is a gift type thing, if she has not touched it in that month, it is gone. I think this is a good policy to have, within reason of course. My general living area is full of toys but that is about to change too...

DD13 spent the first part of the day cleaning in my office with me. There was so much paperwork to go through (darned self-employment) that she ended up taking things up to the loft storage area. In the process, she discovered that if she utilized the eave space and arranged things right, there was potential for a teen scene room upstairs. Yes, she cleaned and arranged and is painting today. I took her shopping last night and bought some stick down linoleum tiles and a cute rug for the center space. She has 2 rattan ottomans that she is using for "tables" and has put games and sundries inside them. She toted video rockers, DVD player, her school computer, cell phone and all the accompaniements upstairs. In the process also, she found an old pair of computer speakers that worked with her laptop and the iTunes were flowing yesterday while she cleaned. Funny how when they take interest in a project, they can work like crazy. DS7 went up last night and thinks that he fits right into the theme. Fun times today, me with a 10 mile LR, kids painting, and all the various regular house duties to do. The kids have Monday and Tuesday off from school so I am sure they will be working furiously. Now if I can keep them from painting each other.....:scared:

Angie Great run! And I hope going off the meds is a good thing for you.

I did a rather slow and somewhat annoying 6 miles today (probably 60 minutes) and did 60 minutes of XT yesterday. Can I just say this once--I don't really know if I enjoy running. I will train to make it through the half marathon, but after that I may just call it a career!

Good morning Goofs. How is everyone doing this fine Monday morning????:goodvibes

Wow, some serious miles were put in this weekend. Guess I better update that darned spreadsheet so everyone can see we are a force to be reckoned with!! Great job this weekend everyone!!! :cheer2:

Angie: Nice job on the race and good for you getting off heart medicine. :thumbsup2

Cecilia: More  for you and your family.

Everyone else: Just a yay for you in general. :dance3:

As for me, after working until 9 a.m., a 10 mile slow run (11:09 mpm with cold rain and gusty wind...:scared: ) and then laying a floor in the "treehouse" as my DS7 has named it, there was nothing left. My office still sits in shambles. I am not sure where it irritates me more, total disaster or partial clean up. I very much dislike starting a job and not finishing it. I guess the issue was that I started 2 jobs and did not finish the one that was important to me. The kids have today and tomorrow off from school so between working, catching up with the laundry from this weekend and life in general I don't foresee any painting until next weekend. I guess that gives me time to pick away at the filing...:crazy2:

As for my run report, I felt really good taking it slow and easy for the pulled muscle. Then at mile 8 it started raining. I seriously should have stopped like the urge was telling me to. I ran a 7 minute mile at mile 8 thinking it would stop and the further along I was the better. Bad move. Butt is now killing me, it has started pouring and the wind has picked up a lot. I am in shorts, a l/s tech shirt and a waterproof (thank goodness) vest. By mile 9, my shorts are dripping, my arms are soaked, my Garmin and iPod are securely stored inside the vest. My muscles are all cramping up due to the drop in temperatures. Now I am slowing down. At mile 9.5, my DH goes by me headed for town. I seriously think he knew better than to stop. I was a half mile from the house, hair dripping and slicked back, shorts dripping, shoes sloshing, you get the picture...and it ain't purty. :rolleyes1 As I struggle around the house today, I think to myself, and why did I not stop at mile 8????? One can only wonder. :upsidedow Today is 5 miles......:sad2:

Morning, all.

Did my 45 minutes of weights today and am now sitting here at work icing my knee. The ITB just won't go away, despite all my diligent efforts doing all the strengthening and stretching I've been given. That is contributing to my general downer outlook on running. At least I know it won't cause permanent damage to anything--it will just hurt. And oddly enough, that is good to know.

Lisa--the fact that you can even do a 7 minute mile is amazing! I am thinking that maybe next year I will lay off the distance and work on becoming faster at 5k.

Maura, sorry you have lost the loving feeling. I completely understand though. It must be hard with all the work you have been putting in trying to do the right thing. Maybe search the net for some ITB stretches that you have not tried.

My issue yesterday apparently is my piriformis. I found a nice little stretch for that....:scared1: (that's me while stretching).

And yes, I can run one 7 minute mile. I can run two 8 minute miles as long as the rest are relatively slow (10-11 mpm). I try to save these for the last ones, always. This time it did not work in my favor though as I should have probably opted for the two 8 minute miles instead. :rolleyes1 I really had no idea I ran that fast until I recorded my lap for that mile.

I have found that for me to be faster, I need to run farther. I don't know if anyone else has found this to be true but I am not an inherently fast runner. If I want to train for a 5K, I need to log a couple 8-10 mile runs in the training and for some reason, I can go faster. My problem with the shorter runs is that I fall into my 10 mpm pace and then realize that I should be running faster for the shorter distance..... hello DUH....:sad2:

Okay Mike, just remember that I love you dearly okay....sit on a chair, sofa, whatever with your feet on the floor. Put your left ankle on your right knee. Put your hands on the seating surface and lock your elbows. Now slide your butt off the couch and drop down like a triceps dip with your legs in the figure 4 position. Can you hear me crying now??? Actually I went to the chiropractors yesterday and I feel MUCH better now....

All Goofs in the house....Hi from way up north!!

Patched holes. I am nearly ready to paint. Maybe tomorrow if I get brave. I have 8 miles in make up today. I may do the 5 from yesterday tomorrow, I will have to see how I feel when I get out on the road. Snow showers predicted for today. I guess it is time.... I really love snow, I just don't love the tweener times when it is building the snow pack and when it is melting...:rolleyes1

Today I bumped up my mileage, per plan, to 4.5 miles. I also decided to bump up the treadmill incline to 1.0 to get a little bit more "road feel" to these runs. I'm hoping if I do that, then my weekend long run outdoors won't seem quite so hard (dream on!). I made it through--man is this hard! 4.6 miles in 43 minutes, another 10 miniutes of glorious stretching.

Hello Super Goofs...Happy Veterans Day!!!

Well, I finally got my workout in today. I wanted to go last night but we had a little problem with our toilet, it wouldn't flush very well. It would flush and then the water level would go down very slowly. I should have called the super in my apartment complex last night but I didn't. My friend lives next door, so we used her bathroom before going to bed, and I waited until this morning to get the super on it since I was off today. Well, it turns out there was something wrong with the toilet and they had to put a new one in. I don't really like leaving while they work in the apartment so I waited for it to be done, then headed to the gym! So much for getting a lot done on my day off!

I ended up doing 3 miles at the gym on the TM and then stretching. It was a good workout, and I felt really good.

Here are my numbers from sunday and today:

Sunday: 1.5 hours of ice hockey

Tuesday: 3 miles/34 min plus 10 min stretching

Keep up the good work everyone! I can't believe marathon weekend is just about two months away!!! :cool1: :cool1:

Hello Goofs!

I'm back!!! It's been a crazy week with my FIL's passing and our trip to Ohio. We are trying to get back into our normal day to day right now. I did manage to get on the treadmill once while in Ohio for 30 mins/about 1.5 miles but the rest of the time was a hurry up and wait type of stuff. I ate bad food with little fruits and veggies and not enough water. The plane ride home was terrible as we were packed in like sardines, we will not fly Spirit again. Got home after 11pm Saturday night and was determined to do the 5K on Sunday morning that I had signed up for a few weeks ago. It was rough but I did it!! So 3.1 miles/40.58 mins (double it please!). I kept my 13 min/mile pace most of the way and there was actually a guy who kept running to keep up with me :rotfl: . After crossing the finish line, everyone waited for a firefighter who walked in full uniform for charity to cross. Back to the bike tonight, deciding if another 5K is in the plan before the 1/2 in January.

I read through most of the posts I've missed so...sorry to hear of the injuries, get better soon! Also, Cecilia, sorry to hear about your Dad. Great job to everyone on their minutes and miles, I don't think we should end this "team" once the contest is over. I've found so much support here!

Lisa...if you are able to fly out of Manchester, NH, Southwest has $89 one way fares for the week before and after marathon weekend. I think they are open to anyone but if not, let me know as I receive their "ding" specials and that may have been where I saw it.

Beautiful rainbow at sunset after a rainy day in Ohio, the day we buried my FIL.

Suzanne Greta job on the race, especially after having a downer of a week. I second your feeling about Spirit. I know they offer cheap fares, but I did not have a great experience with them. It wasn't so much the flight--that was fine--bu they changed my schedule 4 times and there are NO humans to talk to in their customer service. It is the worst ever! And then their CEO comes out and says that he doesn't care about the customers and they are getting what they paid for--or some sentiment like that. I will do whatver I can to avoid them.

Rest day for me today due to an early meeting and really nasty ITB pain. Will try again tomorrow. Plan to have a prescription filled for a topical steroid cream/gel that the doctor wrote for me a couple of months ago. Haven't needed it, but think now I will get it filled. So (for those of you who follow the steroid scandals), I will have my own private version of "the clear" or "the cream" ! (Disclaimer--this is for inflammation, not performance enhancement!)

But, I was determined to get my 7 mile run in after work. I brought all my running clothes to work so I could change there and go straight to the park. I ended up have a great run!! I felt awesome and my pace was a bit quicker than normal for a 7 miler!!

7 miles/1 hour 15 min
10 min stretching

I am very excited that I was able to average a pace under 11 mpm for that long of a run. Now, if I could only keep up that pace on my LRs!

Suzanne-Great job on your 5k! I am impressed that you got up and did it after arriving home so late. That is great! you don't even look tired in those pictures.

Maura-Take care of that IT band pain. I suffered from terrible pain last year and I tried to run through it and just made it worse. I ended up having to stop running at the beginning of December last year just 6 weeks before the marathon. I had to only do XT. It was not fun. Make sure you stretch and do the tennis ball exercises every day. And make sure you ice it after every run. Hang in there.

Good morning Goofs.

Good morning Mike, nice to see you back out there. How is the knee feeling?

Suzanne, agreed about remaining a team but I don't foresee the game continuing. The forces that be have decided that this has pulled people away from the main threads and created cliques that they do not like. Such is life. Forever friends though!!

Nice work everyone getting out there with the miles. We are coming into the home stretch in the game and everything counts.

As for me, I had just the worst day to top all bad days yesterday. Nothing went right. I am still having a bad day. This morning my DH gave me a 20 minute speech on why I should NOT go Goofy. It ended with only elite athletes complete 2 races in 2 days and I am not an elite athlete by any means. He is concerned that I am going to hurt myself and not be able to do the things I love so much this winter. I think the worry is deeper than that seeing as I just read him parts of the heart attacks in runners article in Runners World. I am sitting on the fence now. He said he was okay with it and now he is not okay with it. Just chalk it up the the nothing is going right lately for me. I did get to the gym yesterday. I could not run yesterday. I tried to get out for a bike but, yes, nothing went my way. I did buy Kung Fu Panda yesterday but still have not watched it. I have a hair appointment today and will try really hard to get on my bike before darkness falls. I don't exercise after dark here, it is too risky in the sticks even with my cell phone.

Anyway, today is a new day with new energy...right... I have to think positive and yes, I am still training for Goofy and yes, I am still making plans but now the doubt is there in the back of my mind. I did know that I could do it yesterday, today, I wonder if DH is right....Talk some sense into me....:flower3:

Lisa, I'm lurking on your thread, but wanted to say that there is no doubt in my mind that you can do the Goofy. It might not be the most pleasant 39.3 miles you'll run because I think it will be very difficult with an abbreviated training schedule, but if you go into it trying to finish and not PR in either race you can do it. There is always a chance you can hurt yourself, but you can hurt yourself just getting out of bed in the morning too and you still do that every day. I'm sorry that your DH is making you have doubts, but I'm sure he's just worried about you (or worried about having to live with you when you can't x-country ski this winter because of an injury :rolleyes1 ). Do the training and if you feel like you're going to do serious damage to yourself you can always change your mind some time before the race. As for the heart attack article, I haven't read it yet, but I'm pretty sure that the people who have had heart attacks while running would have had the heart attacks even if they weren't running. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Cindy

Cindy, Thanks for lurking and thanks for the thoughts. I think DH just worries about me when he is not there and he cannot go with me on this trip due to work. Since you met him, you understand that he tries really hard to understand this whole running thing, he just doesn't get it. His mom has been running nearly 50 years now, you'd think he'd have gotten it....:rolleyes1

As for the abbreviated schedule, I am working my LR up to 20 miles as per the Runner's World training schedule that I have been following for my last few races. It has been working amazingly for me so I figured I would stick with it. After I get up to 20 miles, it is 4 weeks of intensive training. Time will tell. I am not actually training for the half. I know I can complete it at a slow run or even a run/walk no matter what. I can even fall to the run/walk during the marathon if I have to. I talked this over with Scott and AmyBeth during our run in Hollis and they concurred with my thinking.

Your vote of confidence means so much. Are you going to be there too? Linda (momof2minnies), Scott and Amybeth are going. Chad and Kristi too!!

Lisa I probably don't have a lot of valuable input here, since I am still a new racer, but I think it all boils down to the goals you have set for yourself for the races. Heck, I figure I could walk a Goofy if I had to, and I am only running about 15 miles a week at this point! But that is obviously not your goal. So assess what it is, and whether it is realistic or needs to be modified a bit. I'm sure you could find some kind of goal that would get you through Goofy unscathed--but then you have to ask yourself, is that the goal you really want for yourself?

So I'm really not helping here!

As for me, I did 4.3 miles today and some stretching for 50 minutes total--definitely not the prettiest. It's been a down week. Maybe all the talk of goals is because I am reassessing how I want to do the Donald--what will get me through and give me the right sense of accomplishment that I think I can actually achieve based on where my training is now. Still plenty of time til the race to get it done.

Good morning Goofs.

Good morning Mike, nice to see you back out there. How is the knee feeling?

The knee appears to be hanging in there...not great, not terrible.

Suzanne, agreed about remaining a team but I don't foresee the game continuing. The forces that be have decided that this has pulled people away from the main threads and created cliques that they do not like. Such is life. Forever friends though!!

This is too bad...one of the reasons that I am still involved with this community is the friendships I've made on this particular team...changing that will change the whole experience, IMHO.

and I am not an elite athlete by any means.

I disagree. Compared to Michellie Jones you aren't, just as I am not when compared to Chris "Macca" McCormack. Compared to where I was a year ago...and the general public...we are both elite athletes. When I was detailing my taper week to my bosses boss last July (a former Division 1 basketball player by the way), and my general frustration with the reduced level of activity, he shook his head and said "most people would say that your taper is too much work". You ARE an elite athlete Lisa!

He is concerned that I am going to hurt myself and not be able to do the things I love so much this winter. I think the worry is deeper than that seeing as I just read him parts of the heart attacks in runners article in Runners World.

1) Of course he doesn't want you to hurt yourself.
2) Read him sections about the health benefits of running for goodness sakes!

Anyway, today is a new day with new energy...right... I have to think positive and yes, I am still training for Goofy and yes, I am still making plans but now the doubt is there in the back of my mind. I did know that I could do it yesterday, today, I wonder if DH is right

Staying positive is a challenge for me too...like you used to say to me during my doubting times for the 1/2 Ironman, you CAN do this if you continue to trust your training...

Tuesday, his whole family gathered around him, we had a prayer service and communion, and we sang songs and told funny stories until he slipped off to sleep. It sounds hokey, but it wasn't. We could tell he was happy even through the enormous amount of pain he was in. Later that day, he slipped off to sleep and never woke again.

Dad died early this morning. It was peaceful and he is finally out of pain. Pain management was a big issue the past few days since he could no longer swallow. We left yesterday because all the company was too much for my step mother. We could tell she was ready to curl up beside him and be alone. Her sisters were there to manage the house and all the other details for her and we were simply in the way once he slipped into unconciousness again.

While I was driving my sisters and nephews to Maryland, I started to feel really run down. I still have all this drainage and I started having a mean cough with it. I drove most of the 800+ miles up there but it left me completely exhausted. While we were at my dads, the cough got worse and I just couldn't recover from the drive up.

Yesterday, I was taken to the Doctor by my sisters because they were certain it was not over training that was affecting me. They practically hog- tied me to get me to go. Turns out they were right. I had a sinus infection, bronchitis and the beginings of pnuemonia. I had also ruptured both my ear drums recently. oops. They gave me a steriod shot, an antibiotic shot, and a handful of prescriptions. I feel better already. I slept most of the way home yesterday.

Today I am home again. My Dr here said no running for at least 3 more days to give my lungs time to heal. I will get another steriod shot on Friday to help boost the healing if I need it. So I am losing an entire week of training!!!

Lisa- I am thrilled you will be a Disney this year! We definately have to hook up and run together for at least a little while. Right now I think you would run circles around me but hopefully I will feel stronger by then. You reminded me I need to get my flights to Orlando booked!

Everybody needs to step up and run a few extra miles for me this week!!! Please? Thanks! You guys are the best.

Cecilia: :scared1: :scared1:     :scared1: :scared1:

Just when I was feeling bad for myself, thanks for reality again. I am happy that you spent the day with your dad. I am glad that it made you and he both happy that you were there. It is important to know that you could make someone smile when they are suffering so. My DH just lost his uncle on Tuesday night to cancer and DH's mom called every day and they held the phone to the uncle's ear. He always smiled when he heard her voice. My love and condolences to you and all your family.

And, HELLO, when were you going to take care of yourself????? Apparently you were too preoccupied with training and all the other things to notice that you were sick? This of course coming from the girl who ran for a week with pneumonia... We need you around here so take care of yourself...please...I may not make it through Goofy without you...:flower3:

Okay, the plea is out, any and all extra miles you can put in to cover our wonderful ailing Cecilia, please get them in!!! I am a little down in mileage and this may be just what I need to spur me on.

And, Mike, thanks. My own words slapping me in the back of the head works wonders. You always have and continue to rock in my book. If the teams continue, yeah, we'll keep ya...:goodvibes

Cecilia, I'm so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I think it was lovely that you were all gathered around him during his last waking moments. Please take care of yourself and get well soon! I'll be glad to share my miles and minutes with you while you're recovering.

Last night, I did my fastest 3 miles since I started this crazy running-5-to-6-days-a-week schedule -- 34:27. I don't know if I'll ever be able to work up to running a sub-30-minute 5K, but I'm finally starting to feel that at least a sub-35 is in my sights.

LAST CHANCE WORKOUT DAY Goofs. Get those miles in and make sure if you wish to donate some of them to our wonderful Cecilia, let me know that too. I promise, promise, promise to update the spreadsheet soon. I know I have been saying that for awhile but really, seriously, I will get it done soon.

My bad week continued on into last night. Right before my hair appointment my old desk decided to fall apart. My new desk was 80% put together so I had to rush home and get that done and transfer desks. It is now 90% put together, missing drawer faces and things like that. Just little things to work on this weekend. We also had to do meat last night which takes about 2-3 hours of straight packaging. I am now down 8 miles with 5 to go today. Hoping to get done work and go to the gym for 1.5 hours of elliptical time to hopefully get some of my miles back. It is pouring here and will continue to do so through tomorrow and part of Sunday. Fingers crossed that it clears out in time for my 12 miles on Sunday!!

Maura, I hope you got some good answers to your training question on the half. I have done 3 now and they do get easier to prepare for. I still get nervous just like the first one though!! I never feel like I trained enough and always question if I can make it. I think this is all normal and really, do not worry. Trust your training. If you are following a plan (MfM, Galloway, etcetera) they really know what they are doing. If you put in the miles, you will be fine. Wait until the taper nightmares start, that's when the fun really begins!!!!! :lmao:

Everyone else, thank you for your kind words of encouragement on the Goofy. I do feel better about at least that today. I am going to continue to train and look for airfare. I know confidently that if nothing else, I can run/walk the full. I am certain I can run the half. I just have to decide firmly on a strategy for the weekend. I think I will wait until this week is over!! :rolleyes1

Oh and Maura, I walk the water stops too but more because I am a slob with my water than any other reason. Someday I want to perfect that grab, slurp and toss method but right now, it is grab, spill, slurp, wear, and then try really hard to find a garbage can because I just slipped on about a million cups that got tossed....:sad2:

Have a great Friday everyone and just remember, I bet your day is going better than mine.......:dance3:

Just a few quick words of encouragement before I head off to work.

Lisa- you are going to go and have a blast. Who cares how fast you are. It will still say "finisher" on your medal no matter how fast you went. DLF beats DNS!

Cecilia- I am so sorry about your dad. Words cannot express it.

Me on the other hand- Knee is still broken. I had an evaluation with PT yesterday and my function is far worse than I thought. Looks like the elipitcal for me for awhile (boo hoo)
Riding is tough. We are off to the indoor on Saturday so I tried to get some trail rides in. Little did I know it was hunting season! Not a good idea to be riding what looks like a deer when there are guns around! I look quite nice in my ultra orange now! M, T, W- rode for 2 hours each day. I am not working this weekend so I am hoping to get some gym time in.

Good morning Goofs. Here it is the start of a new week. We are all ready to get back out at it right????

As for me, I got my miles made up between the bike and the elliptical on Friday. One and a half hours of straight aerobic work, hmmm, sounds much like running...:confused3 Anyway, I am donating my 5 miles on the elliptical to my sweet Cecilia. I hope you are feeling better. Today is a 12 mile easy run and I plan to take it very easy. My piriformis is feeling better but I don't want to push my luck either. We have opted out of the 5K next weekend as it is not named after DHs grandmother anymore. Apparently the powers that be have decided to rename the entire thing...:sad2: So my next official race will be the Goofy. :scared: I have still not found decent air to Florida but I am now holding out for a last minute deal. Keep fingers crossed everyone. I may regret this...:headache:

Joanne, got the package safe and sound. Thanks again.

Mike, donating miles just makes us feel like we are helping out a fellow soldier in the fitness wars. It does not change the overall numbers at all. Do or do not donate your miles. It is all up to you. We are just happy to see you back out and making some miles!!! I am sure you are happy about it too....

I have gotten some of the addresses that I requested and anyone else who would like to exchange cards this holiday season, please PM me with your address. I have had several requests for a list of the addresses and when I have all that want to participate, I will make a blanket PM to everyone on said list.

Love to the Goofs  and have a great day everyone!!

Hi Goofs!

Well. Lets just all make a note that running a half marathon should only be done by completely healthy people. Expecially if said half marathon is taking place in 24 degree temperatures.

13.1 miles in 2:44:31

I am so proud of myself for finishing this half. I have never wanted to quit more in my entire life (well except during the birth of my second child but thats another story) I had NO BUSINESS even trying to do this race.

Tomorrow I will post a race report.

oops- my belated race day story too

I had angels looking out for me that day. I made a sign on my back “I’m running this race for my dad and Alzheimer’s Association. Please help me finish”
I was determined to just go as far as I could. There was no chance I would finish because of the ongoing issues I have had with my knee and the tendonititis but I was going to try.

First angel on the course was Mary. She was the leader of a 6:00 pace group. I joined her group at mile 2. We ran 2 minutes, walked 1 minute. I had a blast! I cannot remember when I had a better time with a group of complete strangers. We laughed, sang songs, told stupid jokes, and really tried to make the best of it. The time flew by and my spirits were up and my knee was okay.

Second group of angels was Team Tun Tavern. We had been running along side one another consistently. This was a group of 4 Marines who in 5 days ran 177 miles for wounded Marines- this was their last leg of the race. It was not a relay. They all ran this distance. They had such kind words of encouragement- in fact at one point one of them said- “I’ll do this mile for your dad” I should have been helping them but instead they helped me. They helped me more than they will ever know- Thanks Jimmy JarHead.

At mile 13-14 my knee had enough running. I felt I would walk as long as I could. My time was good enough to “Beat the Bridge” at mile 20 so I just kept going. Several angels along the way patted me on the back, offered encouragement and really gave me the strength to go on.

Mile 20 had a mounted policeman- I had to kiss Cody’s nose for luck. He didn’t mind (the horse, of course).

At mile 24-25 I would have gotten on the bus if it were there. I was in so much pain I was crying and hobbling. I could not step one more step. A Marine manning the water station screamed at me “pick up your head and move, move, move”. I wasn’t going to argue with a Marine so I did (another angel). The finish line was in sight- I managed to get up strength to run the last .2 miles across the finish line. I finished with tears- I cannot believe I finished! “Congratulations, ma’am, nice job” said a Marine who gave me my medal. My time was 6:14 which averaged out to be a 14minute/mile. For someone who did not even think I would ever finish I have no complaints- it says FINISHER on my medal too!

Good morning Goofs. Still in a blue mood around here so I am going to keep it brief. I don't want to mess with anyone elses good mood!

Cecilia, you are the only person I know (besides me) who would just up and do a half marathon on the spur of the moment!! Great job no matter what!

Suzanne, we went to see the SO last year here in Maine. I have an entire set of music on my iPod for the holidays. Every once in awhile when I shuffle my music one of the songs comes on. Actually, it is pretty good to run to!!!

Everyone else, great work. Way to go. Woo Hoo!! I am working on totals for the sheet. I didn't realize I was quite that far behind. They are coming, promise.

As for me, it continued to rain and be miserable yesterday so I decided a LR was not in the cards for me. I have reworked my schedule to do it on Wednesday when it is cold but at least the skies are clear. I did 5 yesterday and they felt really good. My average was 10:06 with 2 slower miles and then three faster ones. My last one was a 9:18 average!! At some point (I am thinking downhill with the wind blowing at my back and a car passing me for tailwind) I hit 6:58!! Some little victories to be happy for. Today I am going to the gym with DD and setting her up on a weight routine. I am hoping to get my 5 miles in after getting her going. I guess time will tell.

For those counting on me being in there in January, don't. I may have to cancel my plans. My support system here is failing me and I feel the need to keep the peace is more important than conquering the Goofy. Sorry everyone...:sad1:

Cecilia Yowza! WTG on finishing your half--it couldn't have been easy (are they ever?) but you did great.

Groovy Anyone who does a marathon is a wonder! And when I do the half in January--and my ITB is screaming (which it seems like it is going to do given my last couple of weeks)--I will be inspired by you to suck it up and keep on moving.

Did 7 miles yesterday (or 7.2 if you believe mapmyrun, which I don't anymore--it always ssems to overestimate) in 1:08. With the (large) exception of my right leg (ITB from the knee to the hip) it was a decent run. Cardio/breathing--good; shins--good, left leg--good. One short walk break to fuel and drink (cross off Luna gels off the ist--way too chewy!) and I made it through the seven.

Today was 45 minutes of weights/stretching. Friday was 1 hour of walking--3 miles.

Off to call the doc again--gotta see if there are other things to try out to tackle the ITB. MOre exercises? orthotics? massage? bionic leg?

Good morning Goofs, sorry for my p-poor mood yesterday. I am feeling much better today!!

Joanne, your race report brought tears to my eyes. What an awesome accomplishment. One for the books!!

I need a personal trainer who wants to make me skinny, oh wait, I am a personal trainer...DUH.... Right now I am working on DD13s workout plan. We were supposed to go last night but DS7 came home sick from school so plans foiled for another day.

Today is the day. We are heading to the gym this afternoon. It actually gives me more time to assess her weights and get the plan right. Tomorrow she should be pretty whiney and then she has a couple hours of field hockey practice with the high school travel team.....lol....:rolleyes1 (did I say that??). As for me, no run, no workout, no nothing yesterday, just canceling plans and mood declining. After that, I realized that I have so many friends going to marathon weekend that my spirit will be there. I know you all will do well and I cannot wait for reports...popcorn:: . I am working on races for next year, what I am comfortable affording with travel. I am on the fence about whether to argue for ToT 2009 or RFTT 2009. I have friends going in both directions. DD will still be in field hockey season for both so neither may work. She will be in HS and probably headed for states and regionals. Our field hockey team has 6 straight titles. Anyone doing any interesting races in 2009??

Lisa Sorry it's not going to work out for you to make it to Disney in January. I was looking forward to finally meeting you in person. We'll run with you "on our shoulders" so to speak (the way I've been running lately it likely won't feel any worse!)

Had 4.5 on tap today but bagged it after 1.5. Apparently my chronic ITB is being, well--chronic. Decided to take a rest cure and skip one of my weekly runs and give myself til Thursday or Friday before I run again. Made an appointment with the doc (on my B-day, no less!) to see if there's anything else I can do. Just need to nurse myself through til January! Jumped on the bike and did some more time, so total of 35 minutes and 6 miles along with another 10 of IT exercises.

Hope everyone has a good day. It is much warmer in the office today than yesterday, when it was a balmy 60 degrees--indoors! (Should gone home)

Can someone explain, why, if I "race" 6 miles, I am supposed to take 6 days off, but if I "train" 6 miles, I should only skip 1 day?

thanks!

princessrunner
11-18-2008, 08:47 AM
Angie, I think you will find that these people assume that you are exerting yourself more during a race than during training. At least that is what I find to be true. My long runs are slow and easy and just for miles not for time. When I race, I have a goal in mind and tend to push a little harder, hence, more effort and more soreness.

I feel that, walkers as opposed to runners, probably do not require as much recovery time post-race. You walkers can correct me if I am wrong. I am sure not the walking pro around here (nor the running pro either). With January looming, I do not think I would take the full 6 days, myself personally.

As a trainer, I would tell you that, if you feel good and you don't feel the need to rest, then don't. If you start into your workout and feel that you are pushing yourself too soon, then stop.

Hi All -

Well as if things couldn't get worse, the kids brought the stomach flu home from school with them.

Ran 4.5 today in a nice comfortable 45:14. I am still struggling with low energy but that could be because I was up all night with sick kids. I am going to take it easy for the next two weeks and come back ready to kick in that last month of training when we get back from Disney.

With everything going on, our trip to WDW for Thanksgiving has been completely over shadowed. I haven't packed a thing, heck, I haven't even done the laundry so I can pack!!! We leave this Saturday and I haven't planned a thing.

I did take all Dh's suits to the dry cleaners to have them cleaned and packed. He leaves the day we get home from Orlando for England. Evidently, you have to wear suits at Cambridge University?! Dh is finishing up yet another degree with one of those super condensed mini courses.

While Dh is gone, I will unpack from WDW, travel to Maryland for my father's memorial service with 3 kids, decorate for Christmas, do all the chistmas shopping, attend all the christmas parties and recitals etc. oh and train for Goofy in my free time. Who plans for a mini course the three weeks before Christmas?!

My Dad is going to be buried in Arlington National Cemetary. The earliest they can have his burial is February 5th. At least Dh will be here for that because I imagine with a riderless horse, a 21 gun salute, taps and all the other ceremony involved I am going to completely fall apart.

Ooops, sorry so long, I seem to be rambling on here! Take care everyone and keep getting those miles in!

Lisa - sorry to hear you won't be at the marathon this year but you really should take more than 2 months to train for it so I think its a good decision to wait.

Just a quick drive by Goofs--I need to go get ready to leave for a conference tomorrow. Our annual NY state physical education conference is the next 4 days so I am leaving tomorrow to head there, and on top of that I am doing a presentation and I need to finallize everything for that. But, I did manage to get a workout in tonight at the gym.

3 miles/33 min plus 15 min stretching

This was my first workout since last thursday. I have been super busy with things, and my fiance and I got VIP tickets to the NY Giants game on sunday so that kind of threw a wrench into the plans to do my LR on sunday. At least it was a step back week, so I was only supposed to do 10. I am going to desperately try to stay on track this week while at the conference. There is a really nice fitness center where I can do my workouts, the key will just be gettitng there.

Lisa--Sorry to hear you won't be there in January, we will miss you!
As for races for 2009 for me...the plan right now is the Long Branch Half in May, and then trying to do NYC marathon in November--just gotta make sure i get in...other than that, I don't have any other real plans since I am getting married.

Goals for 2009...1/2 in January, sign up for 2010 1/2 as soon as its available, Princess 1/2 in March, a few 5K's tossed in for good measure and Race for the Taste in October again.

Have a great Wednesday everyone and keep up the good work!! I think I'll be on the couch infront of the TV most of the day taking a nap.

Suzanne I saw someone at the gym this morning who reminded me of you--and she was flyin'! So now I will picture you flying your way through the half in January!

I did 50 minutes of bike (8.5 miles) and hip exercises today.

Now I'm trying to make up my mind where to stay in January. I currently have 2 reservations (well, really 4, but that's a longer story)--one at PO-FQ, where I've never stayed, and one at WL, where I have (although I apparently had an upgraded room and didn't realize it). Need to cancel one by Monday. Decisions, decisions!

Another quick drive by as I am at my conference and need to rest, as I now have a cold..ugh!!!!

I got here around dinner time, had to go to a quick meeting, then went to the fitness center in the hotel. I was supposed to do 7 miles, but only made 4, as I am SO congested...I just couldn't breathe, so I called it quits!

4 miles/45 min

I guess doing 4 miles is better than none at all. Hopefully I am feeling better and can get down there to do a workout in between sessions.

Morning Goofs from frozen central Maine!! It is cold, cold, cold here, 20 and windy during the day. Makes for frigid workouts...not that I have done any.

I guess I am in a run depression right now. The thought just makes me sad and tired. I have done some elliptical and I was going to bike yesterday but ran out of time. I will hit the gym with DD today so not much in the way of miles then either. Our 5K has been put on hold as a maybe for Saturday. OK with me with no miles and the frigid temperatures! So excuse your captain for now, this too shall pass.

Everyone is doing great. I have 2 weeks added up. No sense posting the totals until I have them all done, right?? I really have been working on it...really...no really...:flower3:

I like everyone listing their "to dos" for 2009. It gives me some races to look at and get a little excited about. Right now, I have nothing and the way I train is looking forward. August is a long way forward and I don't know if I can justify CMM or not yet, still waiting to figure that one out. Keep those races coming!! popcorn::

Laurie Hope you feel better soon. Kudos for getting in 4. I probably would have reverted to blob mode.

Lisayou get a pass for as long as you want. A little down time may help you recharge and come back with a fresh outlook. And I bet after a while you'll get itchy/bored with no running!

Today I did 50 minutes of elliptical and hip stuff. You know one of the reasons I decided to start running this year was because of boredom with the elliptical and that hasn't changed! But I'm giving myself a run break and just going to do my long run this Sunday.

Hope everyone has a good day. Around here (Detroit and the auto industry) it's "another day, another step closer to bankruptcy".

Greetings, Goofs! I logged 2 miles on the TM tonight. 23:49

My race calendar for 2009:
WDW Half Marathon in January
Disneyland Half Marathon in September

I'm sure I'll have to find an race somewhere, some time between the two, but nothing in mind yet. Any recommendations for a good, penguin-friendly race in 2009?

LAST CHANCE WORKOUT DAY!!! Yes it's here. We are FINALLY at the end of this week!! Get those last minute miles and/or minutes in!!

Maura, thanks for the kind words. I am not sure that taking a break is what is in order but it is what I feel right now. The thought of running makes me tired and sad so onto bigger and better things.

That being said, this was me last night at the gym: Do my weight routine with DD13, walk into the cardio room and EVERY SINGLE ELLIPTICAL IS TAKEN along with all the bikes except the virtual bikes. DD13 hits the bikes. Now all the TMs are open. Do you think someone is trying to tell me something? So, yes, I got on, and I ran, really slowly, then I got bored and mad about being bored so I ran faster. Then I got sad and into the wrong mindset. So....I changed the music on my iPod, and looked at the time. Yeah only 15 minutes left. Now I look at the miles. Close enough to 3 that if I ran really, really fast, I could finish out a strong 3 in 30:00 so, what do I do, yes, I ran the last 15 minutes at a 7:30 mpm pace. I finished exactly 3 miles in 30 minutes. How do I feel about running today you may ask????? Same, sad, tired but at least I know I can still set a decent pace and I have not lost it that quickly.

Today I am riding my bike. It is cold daily (around 20-25 degrees) and a brisk wind blowing cooling it off further but I feel the need to get outside and do something. I am already dressed so I have no excuse when I get done work. Now I just have to keep telling myself that. Good thing I have this team to give me a reason to keep exercising, otherwise, I would hit blob mode too!!

Love to the Goofs...

Happy Friday all!

I did not take a rest day today, since I had not run since my aborted Tuesday try--will do my LR on Sunday. So I went to the gym for a bonus workout. 45 minutes--20 on the bike (4.5 miles) and another 25 doing a little abs, a little legs.

Need to cancel some of my Disney reservations--I never did get the final day at the AP rate I wanted, so I better do that before I run out of time. I don't like the fact that the AP rate has this 45 day time period versus the usual 5 or 6 for room only. Oh well.

Angie Good luck with your upcoming race!

Hi All

Lets see.
yesterday 6 miles in 1 hour even.
Today - nada unless you count all the last minute running around I am doing getting ready for our trip. Did I mention all of my inlaws are coming in tonight to spend the night with us before we leave? Where to fit 7 more people...
Tomorrow - Disney!!!! Yippeee!!

Lisa - I may not be able to check in with my miles until next Saturday. I am going to try to run several days this week but you know how it goes on a big family vacation. Plus I am still struggling with low energy levels.

Great job, Megan!

I did 8 miles today in around 80 minutes. This is my longest training run so far, and matches what I did when training for Minnie. It went reasonably well. It's cold here, but I was very comfortable in a long sleeve T and tights. Told myself I would do two breaks for water/gel and only did one at about 4.5 miles. Liked the PowerGel I had--it went down a lot easier than Gu or SportBeans or Luna Gels. Knee and hip were 4-5 on a scale of 1-10. Tried a little Biofreeze from a sample I had--but I really didn't feel it. But made it through .

I think it's time for new shoes. Really on the fence on what to get, but will take counsel from my doc and the guys at Hansons. I'll have to find out if they're doing Disney this year. Last year they did great--won the half and placed 4 of top 5.

Consolidated my ressies at WL, so that's taken care of. Hope I get the room I like!

Off to watch the Pats--the Lions are so bad, they don't sell out and are therfore not on TV!

Hey everybody!! I can't believe that Thanksgiving is this week!!!!! Time has been flying lately for me, between training for the Goofy and planning my wedding! At any rate, I am getting it all done!

I still am not feeling 100%, but I had to get out for my LR today, since i haven't run since Wednesday because I have been feeling really bad. I decided to do some loops today so I could keep my water and gatorade in my car. The first loop was 3 miles and then I did 6 2mile loops for a total of 15 miles. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I found it easier if I just focused on those shorts segments instead of thinking how much I really had left. Here's the final numbers:

15 miles/2 hours 58 min.

I am very happy with that considering I have a cold and I am very congested.

Everyone else looks like they are doing great...I will try to catch up with everyone a little later, as I have to plan my lessons for this week, and with all the new stuff I learned at the conference this week, I want to try some new stuff..I am very excited about that!!!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Good morning everyone!! I'm here. After my DH and DD coming home from Ohio sick 2 1/2 weeks ago and then giving it to me, I've been a slug and done nothing for the last week. I think I feel worse for not exercising but it took all I had to make it to work the last 2 days after being out sick for 5. Anyways, today is a new day and I am hoping to get on the bike tonight.

Maura, I saw your post awhile ago about the economy in Michigan and just wanted to say that my DH is a big Lions fan and we always spend lots of $$ on stuff we can't find anywhere else. Gotta be a fan if you stick with them when the season might be 0-16. I just keep telling him it has to get better!

I got to the gym tonight for 4 miles on the TM. My legs were a bit tight still after my LR on sunday, but I still made it through!

4 miles/45 min

I am still feeling quite slow, I seem to just be getting slower and slower with my runs, instead of faster. After this Goofy Challenge, I am really going to start working in some speed workouts before my next half in May.

If I don't get on here again, I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!!

Kim Congrats on the sub-10 minute mile. That, to me, is a big psychological barrier as a runner (and I'm a slow one). I don't think I could ever have run one mile in high school if I tried!

Suzanne You're going to need a lot of wall space soon. You just keep racking up the medals! I am still annoyed that somehow I lost my race number from Minnie. My first real race, and it's gone. I vaguely recall the dog going after it, but I though I put it away somewhere. Well, if I did, I don't remember where! And if you are looking for any Lions gear, let me know. I bet I can get it cheap around here!

Mike Hope your recovery (and I'm sorry but I forget from what--see previous!) is going well. Hang in there. Myself, I would really like to know what it's like to be a runner who doesn't suffer from some kind of nagging, hard to get rid of, injury.

More XT for me this week. 45 minutes on bike (8.6 miles) and stretch. Off tomorrow to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving, so maybe no workout.

Happy Turkey Day all.

Just wanted to drop in and say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!!

I was going to go to the park and run my 8 miler outside, but I didn't get home until almost 3 and since it gets dark before 5 I knew I wouldn't finish before dark. So, I headed to the gym for 8 miles on the TM...it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be! I ended up doing intervals of running at 10mpm pace for .25 miles, then walking at 13mpm pace for .25 miles...for an average pace of 11:30..which is not bad for me! Anyhow here are the numbers:

8 miles/1 hour, 32 min. plus 10 min stretching.

I feel great afterwards, and funny thing is, I don't really feel that tired..guess that means I am doing well!!!

Suzzanne--love the frame and the medals! I need to get a rod like that to my medals on...great idea!

ksoehrlein--Great job on your sub-10 min mile!! That's awesome!

Mike--Good Luck in the 5k tomorrow!

Maura-Have fun in Pittsburgh!

Where o where has our fearless leader gone? It's been quite quiet around here without her daily morning inspirations.

I still cannot run. My knee is really taking it's time to heal. I am done with the PT. Insurance only covered so much so Tuesday was the last day. Unfortunately it has been flairing up again- not sure why but i did have some intense riding lessons in the past few days. Almost got dumped over a jump but managed to save myself. I probably twisted it somehow doing that.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday- rode for 2 hours

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are off to the in-laws and my family for dessert. Lucky they live close by to one another.
