Good Morning Red Team :)
I'm down 1.6 pounds this week, which I was THRILLED with! My eating last weekend was less than stellar, but somehow I was able to have a loss. I was really pleased after I weighed myself when I realized that I haven't been at this weight in probably 15 YEARS! I have about 27 more pounds to go, but feel like I'm finally going to do this and reach my goal!
WISHing everyone a very safe and Happy Halloween!

Well, after having a gain last week (from water) I have finally been able to turn it around. Down 6 LBS this week. I hope I can keep it up.
Have a great weekend...Step away from the candy!!!

Dang! 6 pounds! You'll have to go buy new clothes this weekend!!!
As for me, -1. :thumbsup2 Hopefully I'm done yo-yoing for awhile. I've watched the first 3 pounds I lost go up and down. This pound I've lost this week is a whole new territory for me....I haven't lost it before on the BL challenge! LOL

Well, first of all - that's wonderful.:thumbsup2
But my goodness, selfishly, your thread was nice for me to read. It is me too. I remembered that that's that for me too. I haven't been at this weight for years either. Fabulous. And I'm about 20-30 from goal too. I have no idea because I'm a big girl - bones and height. So my goal is probably someone else's high weight so we shall see.
Once again - celebrate that luckywife. Celebrate. Sorry for hijacking! But that's wonderful to read.
Happy Halloween

1) You're so right. Maintaining is awesome. And I truly believe that we often overlook that fact all through life
and....
Congrats to you. Onward and downward for you. Have a wonderful weekend.
And me. I'm down two pounds. And I'm at new territory weight wise. So wonderful. Unfortunately, I have some mental issues surrounding weight and body. As in I'm uncomfortable as I become smaller and closer to goal. I know - strange. So hopefuly I can overcome. I'll be working on it for sure.
Happy Halloween to you all!!!

I didn't reweigh today--was 3 down as of yesterday. However....just had to share comments from DD

I forgot to wish everyone a Happy Halloween!!
i'm making choc. dipped pretzels right now (wilton mold) to take to the neighbor's gathering tonight -- none for me -- that is NOT a decision that supports my goal and honestly nothing special about them. just have to be accountable
i did get a workout in, it's been a hectic week for me, i worked 23 hours to help out for flu shot clinics this week. so being at work at some point mon - thurs really cut into my week! and my workouts!
i'm sure we have some CSI watchers here....that recent episode with the hypnotist...i have adopted the new mantra "The choices I make control my weight":thumbsup2
:cheer2: :cheer2: and a serious cyber HIGH FIVE to our losers!! WOWSER!!!:cheer2:
f:worship: or those entering new territory or new 'decades' of numbers on the scale, thank you for sharing b/c that totally truly inspires me! :worship:

Happy Halloween to all you awesome Red team losers!!
Disneynut- 6 pounds!!!   That's awesome!!
Luckywife and Lisa--:dance3: :dance3: What an awesome feeling to hit a low that you haven't seen in a long time. Congratulations.
ohMom- What a great saying. I just wrote it on a post-it and am going to keep it on my fridge. It is so true, but we can make such bad choices sometimes. I don't think I would be able to make chocolate dipped anything without sampling. Good for you.
I went to weight watchers this morning, expecting a loss, because I was up last week, and really stayed on program this week, and I was up one pound. I know it's not much, but I was so frustrated that i just wanted to cry, which isn't me. Once I thought about it realistically, I should have been up more than I was last week and it didn't show, but it aggravated me. I hate to let that scale do that to me. I got over it, I am still on track today. It is only a number, and I feel so much better eating healthy and exercising, and I can't let the scale have so much power over my attitude.
I didn't buy any halloween candy until this morning because I usually buy it early on a good sale, and then eat half of it and need to buy more. I will definitely have a couple pieces tonight, but am not going to eat any while out trick or treating with my son. I figure I'll sit down and enjoy it rather than mindlessly munch the night away.
Good luck everyone with the halloween candy.

Even though I'm not anywhere close to where I'm noticing myself being smaller, let alone anyone else...I have issues with that, too. I do NOT like being singled out or being the center of attention, so I think I will have a really hard time having people mention that I look different. It's really kind of silly isn't it? We're working hard at becoming healthy, yet we (or at least I) don't want to be recognized for it. I guess that's why it's so much easier for me to be on a message board vs going to weight watchers of anything like that.
Anyone else dealing with this? How did you overcome it?

11-01-2008, 08:02 AM
Good morning everyone! How did everyone do over Halloween? I have to confess...I was a very bad girl. Ok, I could have done WAY worse, but I caved. I arrived at work...and discovered there was a potluck. :scared1: I'm off on Thursdays and no one called to alert me to this fact, so I was totally unprepared. (They don't care if you bring anything or not, and we always have way too much food, so probably just as well that I didn't take anything.) I had a few crackers, then I saw someone made creme de menthe brownies, and I had a small corner of a scotcharoo. Later on someone brought in a bunch of M&M's with candy corn, nuts and a few other things. I had a few of those. Ugh.
So, then it was on to my Mom's for dinner and passing out candy. Did fine with dinner, had one Snickers fun size, a cookie, and part of a brownie.
Thank goodness it's Saturday and I have the whole week to make up for my naughtiness.

Hear Ye Hear Ye, the Weightkeeper FINALLY speaks
Sorry ladies. I went on vacation and had a hard time returning to reality. I have not been in a number crunching mood. Here is week 6 that is really late. It is quite a nail biter of a week so hold on here we go.
-------------------Black Team-----Blue Team-----Red Team-----Total
started week---------35-------------33-------------35-----------103
removed---------------7--------------5--------------8------------20
new members-------------------------2-----------------------------
current-members------28-------------30-------------27-----------85
not reporting 1 wk------4--------------3--------------7-----------14
not reporting 2 wk------8--------------7--------------3-----------18
weigh ins for week-----16-------------20-------------17-----------53
Red Team Week 6
17 weigh ins
4 gains totaling 8.2 lbs
2 maintains
11 losses totaling 15.8 lbs
8 removed from challenge losses totaled 21.6 lbs
Weekly net loss 7.6 lbs
Cumulative net loss 97.1 lbs
Now the real fun begins. Let's look at our Red Team Superstars.
Again keep in mind that if you skip a weigh in your percentage lost for the next weigh in is divided in half. That only seems fair doesn't it?
We also had a weird week with big losses following gains from last week. To be fair I also divided those percentages in half. There is probably a better mathematical way to calculate this but my brain is fried right now. Sorry.
And as usual keep in mind I am human. I do make mistakes. This was a rushed calculation and I now have week 7 numbers to tackle. If you have a concern please PM or email me.
OK I have said enough. Now pay attention. With only 11 losers this week everyone who lost is a superstar.

I didn't do so well this weekend, but today is another day! I'll do better this week. I'm anxious to get exercising again. I took last week off to recover from a week at Disney topped off by the 13K Tower of Terror run. My feet were aching! Soooooo... I'm off to get to work and then go walk a couple miles.
Hope everyone has a great week!

Hear Ye Hear Ye, the Weightkeeper speaks
Before we begin tonights festivities here is another official announcement. The grand finale of the NBC Biggest Loser show will be Tuesday, December 16.
Our final weigh in will be Friday, December 12.
That day each team will start a finale thread and I will post the final results on each thread on Tuesday, December 16. That will make our challenge 13 weeks long. That means we are now at the halfway point. How are you doing loser?
We do not have BL on TV tonight, but we DO have WISH BL numbers to enjoy. It was another close week. Pay close attention.

Red Team Week 7
19 weigh ins
1 newbie initial weigh in
3 gains totaling 3.3 lbs
1 maintain
14 losses totaling 27.6 lbs
2 removed from challenge with a net gain totaling 3.4 lbs
Weekly net loss 24.3 lbs
Cumulative net loss 124.8 lbs
Now the real fun begins. Let's look at our Red Team Superstars.
In some respects my job is getting easier with fewer participants in our challenge. I am having a dilemma with trying to calculate weekly percentages in a fair manner. This week was a struggle. Those that skipped weeks had their percentages adjusted. Not too hard.
Now this week again I had nice losses from some of last weeks gainers. I decided to subtract their gains from this weeks loss and use that to calculate percentages. Some losers are still working on last weeks gain and even though they lost this week they are not named as superstars. I know this may not be the best way to handle this but I just want to be fair to our consistent losers.
And as usual keep in mind I am human. I am just a lowly volunteer here. I do not get paid for the hours I spend doing this. I do make mistakes. If you have a concern please PM or email me.
OK I have said enough. Now pay attention. Let's get this party started.

Good morning, everyone.
Congratulations to all our losers - and again to us as a whole! We were first again this week! YAY!! Keep up the good work!
I exercised yesterday - just a walk. It's going to take some getting used to with the time change, though. It gets dark much earlier, of course, so I'll have to carry a flashlight.
I'm having trouble getting back into the exercise groove and its such a shame. I ENJOY the exercise - honest! - there just seems to be so much going on in my life right now. All the more reason to exercise, I know....
I hope everyone is having a great day!

Monday - How does the cooler weather affect your eating habits?
Tuesday - Do you eat different foods when it is colder out?
Wednesday- Is it easier or harder to eat healthy when it's colder out
and since I'm getting a wisdom tooth pulled tomorrow I'll throw on Thursday's too.:cool2:
Thursday - Do you have to change your exercise routine when the weather is colder?

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
Monday - How does the cooler weather affect your eating habits?
I love to cook in cooler weather, so it definately makes me eat more. I'm a chili, stew, pot roast kind of cook. I also try to stay in season, so a lot of the salad vegies are out for me. I'm going to try to change that this year.
Tuesday - Do you eat different foods when it is colder out?
I do - see above. I love me some stew, with biscuts or "homemade" bread. ( I confess, homemade bread for me is from frozen dough. I just can't make a decent loaf from scratch to save my life. Making a good loaf of bread is actually on my list of things to do before I die.
Wednesday- Is it easier or harder to eat healthy when it's colder out
Harder. Much much harder.
Thursday - Do you have to change your exercise routine when the weather is colder?
Yeah, I do, but it's more because of light than temperature. I'm in TN where it can get cold, but nothing like up north. I just dress warmer.
Wonder why it's so quiet around here recently. I hope everyone is out doing fun stuff!

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
Monday - How does the cooler weather affect your eating habits?
Cooler weather means comfort foods, which in general are heavier and not so good for dieting. Mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, the holidays come in the cooler weather. Cooler weather also means less time spent outside.
Tuesday - Do you eat different foods when it is colder out?
Absolutely! In the Midwest you'll see the menus change quite a bit as the temps get cooler.
Wednesday- Is it easier or harder to eat healthy when it's colder out
Harder. Less fresh fruits and veggies are available, and heavier foods are coked.
and since I'm getting a wisdom tooth pulled tomorrow I'll throw on Thursday's too.:cool2:
Thursday - Do you have to change your exercise routine when the weather is colder?
Not really. I walk on the treadmill, do Wii Fit, and have a few other exercise tapes I can do. So far I have not ventured outside to exercise.

Congratulations to our top ten and all of the Red team losers!!! Whoo hoo-- we are number one again!! I actually gained the past 2 weeks, so didn't contribute to the loss, but this week I'm in better shape. I lost 1.6 at weighin today. Good luck to everyone weighing in tomorrow.
QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
Monday - How does the cooler weather affect your eating habits? It can make me want to curl up on the couch under a blanket and have a nice hot cup of tea. I eat more soups and chili in the colder weather, but all the holidays and days leading up to them can be a challenge. I like to bake when it's cold outside too. I've been good and haven't done any baking this fall yet.
Tuesday - Do you eat different foods when it is colder out?I don't eat many salads when it's cold. I'd prefer hot foods, and if I go out, soup to start with dinner.
Wednesday- Is it easier or harder to eat healthy when it's colder outI think it's harder because all the fresh fruits and vegies aren't in season, not to mention the holidays.
and since I'm getting a wisdom tooth pulled tomorrow I'll throw on Thursday's too.:cool2:  Hope all goes well.
Thursday - Do you have to change your exercise routine when the weather is colder? Now I have been doing exercise dvds in the morning, so I do not. I used to mainly walk, and then I would walk if it was above freezing, but not in the snow or rain.
Have a great friday everyone!!

mikamah - I'm not sure why, but I never enough thought about soup! I've always stuck with the thicker chili and stew, but soup is a great idea! It's supposed to be good for the waist line too. So, thanks to you, I'm now in the market for some yummy homemade soup recipes. Anyone have personal favorites you can share?

I'll try to find the mexican taco soup recipe I used to make. We love to go to panera for soup. My son loves the chicken noodle, and I usually get the black bean which is awesome. You get the french bread to dip in which really makes it a meal. I think most soups if they are broth based and not cream based are pretty healthy. I've also read recently that people who start a meal with a broth based soup eat fewer calories for that meal.

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
Monday - How does the cooler weather affect your eating habits?
During the winter, I tend to eat more because I am home more.
Tuesday - Do you eat different foods when it is colder out?
No just more of it
Wednesday- Is it easier or harder to eat healthy when it's colder out
Lots of cold weather questions....I would say harder, I have kids that like junk food. I try to keep most of it out of the house but it's here sometimes (chips or cookies) When I am home more I will be tempted.
Thursday - Do you have to change your exercise routine when the weather is colder?
Yes, I do not go out on walks when it is cold out. I try at least once a week but I do not like snow. In the summer we are out almost every night.
Good luck everyone with weigh in today. Hope for big losses.
