Kathleen-me mom to 41 so far waiting for the phone to ring with more (ok we are up to 44 now since we have expended a few times since starting this report :thumbsup2 )
Loren-best husband and daddy everyone that comes in our door
Jason- 10 yrs old wish child
Avyella- 8 yrs (22 week preemie with CP and blind in one eye)
Christian 7yrs (FAS)
Hayden 4 yrs (arthritis)
Isabella-(Ella/Bella/Mella sometime Smella) 2 yrs (hearing impaired)

We are a foster home that adopts special needs children

We didn't plan on doing special needs foster care till the call for Jason came in out of the blue saying we have a "3 month old baby boy with deformed hand and a really bad cold" could you take him. We couldn't get there fast enough :drive:
Turns out he was one sick little baby. We found this out years later when a nurse came up to me and said does your son have a deformed hand? I said yes she said "I can't believe he is still alive we did the death watch on him the night he was taken from his bio-mom"
Jason has Primary immune deficiency, Holt Oram syndrome (his deformed hand) a minor heart condition and bad bad lungs (he turns blue a lot)
He has had 9 surgeries so far including 2 huge ones to give him a thumb. His left thumb had no bones or muscles in it so at 12 months they took his index finger and made him a thumb with it. Then at 6 yrs old he needed a muscle transplant to give it more strength. He still gets mad it doesn't do what he wants it to do and his arm is shorter then the other one. We call it his "Mickey Mouse hand" since he only has 4 fingers too ;)
He has spent more time then I want to think about hooked up to a IV pole.
He had 3 PICC lines in before he was 3 yrs old.
On his Adoption day the Judge was freaked out because in comes this little boy, a month shy of his 3rd birthday hooked up to a IV pack that he wore in a little clear backpack. We were scared he wasn't going to grant our adoption since he kept asking us if we knew what we were getting into.
Jason got his port in right before he turned 5 and has been doing IGG treatments every 21 days ever since.
He has been doing really well the last 12 months so we decided to put in for his wish trip and we got notice 3 weeks later we was approved :dance3: (plus we were waiting for our sibling group of 4 to go home they were here for almost a year and left the week I sent in the paperwork)
I have been living on this site ever since.

We hope to hear in the next 2 weeks if Grandma can come as his PCA and our dates to travel.
Grandma and grandpa plus my husbands sister are all planning on coming
Does anyone know how that work? Can they come to the GKTW to hang out with us and help us?

Yeah!!! I found your pre-trippie!! This is so exciting! You guys are going to have a blast.

GKTW will only house the actual wish participants. But your family is allowed to come visit, play, even eat! I think they may charge each family member that is not part of the Wish family $1.00 per meal to eat. Pretty good deal, huh!
Here is a link to a TR that a grandmother of one of the wish kids put together. They had half of them staying at GKTW and the other half staying at a Disney resort...
Link to Karlyn's Trip Report (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1868674)

Hope that helps some!

Did you see the answer to the stroller as a wheelchair question on the Wish Trippers thread?

Beautiful family!!! Jason is such a trooper! Nick has "only" had 5 surgeries but 4 of them were before he was 9 months old, the last being at 18 months old and numerous, endoscopies, bronchoscopies and colonoscopies. What a wonderful family, I can't wait to get to know you all better.

I found it too.....on board for the duration:)

You obviously all have a very busy life and must need the trip just as much as Jason :)

When will you know whether your adoption of Christian has gone through?

Mandy

we have no idea
we got him at birth and he will 7 on monday the hang up is we are white and he tribal.
We are allowed to travel for the first time ever so that is a huge thing here
I emailed our lawyer asking to get this over with before our trip we will see;)

Maroo thanks for the link and info that made my day
so grandma/ grandpa and auntie can hang with us they just need their own place to sleep that perfect for us :dance3:
We can handle the kids on our own overnight it is the getting them out in public thing that is a little hard

Amy I lost count of how many times he was under for the little things
if I had to guess it would be over 20 times
his first surgery was at 9 months old for a "cyst" on the roof of his mouth
they had never seen anything like it and the doctor that did the surgery came out with the biggest smile on his face the first thing he said was I was so sure it was cancer but it was just a cyst. I should have known then that it was going to be a LONG ride with him
Every time he got a new tooth we had to go in and have it lanced because it got infected, they would lance it and a whole tooth would be there:scared1:

There are twins on Noah's baseball team who are tribal.. the were adopted along with their two sisters and I know that it took a very long time for the adoption to be finalized. I hope that Christian's come thru soon.

they are still waiting to hear back from the doctor
we decided to go a day early so we can get the kids settled a little before everything starts
we will pay for a night in a hotel

I know exciting waiting to hear for the pieces to come together.
You have such a wonderful family.

Most likely you would need 2 rooms. I think most hotels have a limit of 4 people to room from what I experinced. If you need help I'm pretty good at using different travel methods to get rooms in that area for 50-60 staying at
a nice resort probaly a radission on 192.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine! It was a WDW staple in Jan for Sami. Emy got the stroller and DH was too cheap to rent one for Sami...:lmao: so I ended up carrying Sami in the afternoons (naptime!) I also love my solievel MT! I can't decide if I'm going to take either on the cruise. DH thinks my baby wearing days are over. I say differently ;)

There is a special place in heaven (or whatever you believe) for people who can do foster care...I never could.

WOW. We have a severe foster shortage around here. It's terrible. We can't even find homes for newborns. Used to be just a problem placing teens. Now we can't find homes for anyone. It's terrible. None of our fosters wait by the phone. We pick one up and drop another off :sad2:

we went for a normal 6 month check up and came out with 4 casts
A and H have both really tightened up so they casted them today to try and loosen their calf's muscles
H needs to go in for a MRI they are worried he may have fluid on the brain or a tether cord (that means his spine to tight around the nerves -I think- so he would need surgery if he has one or the other) at this point it would be nice if they do find something so we can fix it instead of just playing with meds that are not really working
A surprised the doctor on how tight she got so he is thinking foot surgery again for her they were talking about holding off till she is in her later teens but we may need to do it earlier
I am already sore from carrying them around and it has only been 3 hours
H refuses to walk at all, A is walking just fine but she is slow and tried

Aw man, I can't believe they're still working on paperwork! Do you want me to call that doctor for you? :rotfl2:

oops I forgot to update here
they are looking at Feb 19 as a travel date
they sent more paperwork back to the doctor requesting that Grandma AND Grandpa both get to go as PCA's *wiping tears here*
the MAW lady said she would keep calling until he signed it and there was no reason why both shouldn't be able to come
she hopes to have dates this week so we could tell the kids Christmas morning what day we are going :dance3:

H is moving so we only have to carry him and A back and forth to the car (a foot of snow is not good for leg casts)
H need a lot of help getting dresses but he is moving so that helps a lot

we got flight info today we leave at 7am so it looks like we will be on the road by 4 we have a hour trip to the airport

I think we solved the stroller problem
our triple is to long
I read somewhere on here that you can't have anything longer then 54 inches our stroller is about 70 inches long so I guess it is out
MAW said they would rent us 2 doubles so that will help we just have to get though the airports without them so I guess I need pack the Beco

anyone do cloth diapers how do you handle them at Disney?

we may just spend the money and stay in the twin cities the night before
my kids all go to bed early so that won't be a problem unless they are too excited to go
I may be naughty and tell them we are leaving on the 23 rd instead of the 22nd :rotfl:

the new guys came and are settling in
it was a little hard getting out the door this morning but we were not late for school :cool1:

Avy got her casts off and a new brace which is way different from her last one so she is getting use to it
plus she got her spacer out of her mouth and will be getting braces on her teeth as soon as we get back.

Hayden is out of casts and was sedated today for a brain and spine MRI we hope to hear back by thursday.
Depending on what it says he may need to go into full leg braces instead of his short ankle ones. He walked so much better in his leg casts then he has in a long time.

The Wish Granters emailed me today and we are going to do J's going away party the day before we leave
We are going to stay in a hotel that night, so we don't have to get up as early to get to the airport. We will do the party there, now we need to decide where to stay :confused3
having the party then will make it easier because of the new boys they won't have a idea about it so they won't feel left out :rolleyes1

Jason is doing great he has been my easy one right now

We got to IV on friday and the nurse gave him the coolest card
it had been sent to the Chemo room
this is from a young man about 20 or 21

"Hi Jason
I'm not sure if you remember me or not. My name is XXXX and I met you and your mom when I went to a Chemo treatment with my mom. You taught me a little about the nintendo DS even though I should have been doing my homework :)
I just wanted to send you a quick note and say hi. I must admit I was pretty nervous to go with mom to one of her treatments - I didn't have any idea what to expect! But you helped calm any fears I had and I actually had a pretty fun morning :)
You are an amazing young man with so much to offer our world! I hope you know what a blessing you are (I know everyone who meets you does!)
Thank you for helping me through mom's treatment. You and your family will always be in my prayers. God Blessings to you for a rockin' 2009

Peace,
XXXX

the card had a guitar on the front (he added the smiles in the card I didn't know they would show up as real smilies)

Jason was so excited he remembered XXXX right away and was shocked he wrote to him
so he paid it forward and wrote a thank you note to the ladies that make our lunch at the hospital :flower3:

Hayden was so excited to get mail today
it was perfect timing after spending the day in the van, he got fitted for new leg braces today
he is getting little short ones again so that is great news
His MRI came back with nothing on it except a small curve to his spine which we already knew about

Avy got her leg braces fixed today too, her leg was swelling hopefully the fix will work

we are still waiting for Jason's doctor to sign the PCA papers that grandma and grandpa can go
I talked with the MAW coordinator today and she said is there another doctor who could sign the papers
I knew the doctor we were seeing today would do it so she faxed them to him
he had them signed before we even got there
he said they should be there tomorrow
he came into the room doing a :cheer2: saying when are you going to Disney he was so excited

Sorry I didn't post till now but I have been busy with our newest addition. We got a 8 week old baby boy for respite foster care while his foster parents are out of town. the 2 new boys returned home on Saturday
I am so happy for them and their parents :cool1:
it is so quiet around here again

still trying to decide what to pack and which strollers to bring:rotfl:
stroller stress is so hard for us we are always trying to decide what strollers to bring when we go anywhere

Did you get my email?

What are your options for strollers? Bring ones that are lightweight but move the easiest. Also if you have ones that recline for napping purposes...bring that. Also make sure to bring stoller covers or extra ponchos to throw over the strollers in case of a downpour...which can happen at any point.

good thing I checked my junk mail it was there thanks

as for strollers I have the triple (http://www.bergdesign.net/triple.htm) which I love because it pushes so nice but it is a beast to get through crowds
I have 2 mac's singles that would work and Jason's wheelchair stroller but don't know if I want to do that

wow you have your hands full
you have a hard combo of kids I don't think I could handle them
give me a feeding tube any day :upsidedow

We originally wanted to adopt 6 but after our son came to us we realized these 3 were our limit. Some days are very difficult but they are completely worth it.
