I am so excited!!! :cool1: We just received an invitation for a Disney Vacation Club travel show here in Rochester New York this November. I didn't even know they were headed here. :woohoo: We don't have trip to WDW planned until Sept 09, so this will be a wonderful taste of "home" to help us through the long, cold winter.:dance3:

Hi... Just got my "invite" today too... that's where i got the information on the "disclosure" thread i just started a few minutes ago.

Not sure if i'll make it to the event though...i was actually planning on a quick trip to see the mouse that week. We'll see. I'm also a "home" member to AKV aready too. Not sure i'll do BLT.

All the same, it's nice to see that Disney does have an event up here in central NY. :)

The one we received was for:

Disney Vacation Club Travel Show
November 13-16, 2008
Strong National Museum of Play
One Manhattan Square, Rochester, NY 14607

Most times are at 7pm, and we're encouraged to RSVP by November 9.

Not sure if there any other dates and locations....i'm sure there are more though somewhere.

We just received ours today!! I just opened it! Just waiting for DH to get home to figure out which time and day:woohoo: We have a 2.5 hour drive there but have a discount to the museum thru one of our local kids centers, so maybe we will go early. Not planning on buying BLT, but hey, you never know! Besides, DVC receptions are GREAT!! We went to AKV reception in WDW in July 2007.

This is a nice little teaser before our trip in December where we can see the models!:upsidedow

Cheerful Chickadee,
Have you ever looked into DVC? If so, they probably have your contact info on file and are inviting potential buyers as well as current owner, who they hope will add-on. Regardless, if you want to go and have an invite, I would go. It should be fun even if you decide not to buy in. Plus, with the characters, it will be a little Disney in Rochester. Can't pass that up.:thumbsup2

yep I figured that was it, we inquired about dvc not too long ago and received a dvc packet with dvd in the mail a few days ago and now this invitation. I really hope they have some of the main characters there, we're going to wdw in May 2009 and my DD will be 19 months old at the time, I want to see how she does with the characters to get an idea of how she'll be for our trip. plus like you said...who can beat a little Disney in Rochester?

Tomorrow evening we'll be attending the first ever DVC Travel Tour:cool1: :cool1:
My whole family is so excited. :woohoo:
Strong National Museum of Play, where the tour will be held, announced that for the next 4 days, Magic Kingdom's Dapper Dans as well as a drum group from Animal Kingdom Park will be performing. I am so thrilled to have a little Disney here in Rochester, especially as we head into our 6 months of winter.

I will report back on the event:thumbsup2

Thank-you!! Please do let us know the scoop!

I signed up for the Sunday at 7pm time but don't know if the girls will be able to be out that late on a school night. Unforunately, the other days didn't work and 7pm was the only member time, plus my DH is out of town. I do have an interest in purchasing an add-on. So I really need to know what the deal is before I go, since we might have to skip the show.

I did call DVC to ask about happens between 5pm when the museum closes and 7pm when the show happens. They said that they are keeping the museum open for DVC Show participants.

akghutton
11-13-2008, 07:54 AM
Lisa,
So we can arrive before 7pm and enjoy the museum for free? I know the museum normally closes at 5pm but didn't realize that we could go early as DVC guests.

Yes, my understanding is that if you are registered you can enter the museum at any time during the day. Hopefully that is correct. I may try to talk to someone before the 7pm show on Sunday - If I feel there is anything I want to chat about or see.

I just spoke with Strong Museum and they are keeping the museum open for DVC guests between 5pm-7pm.:cool1: I am going to head there with my kids right after school. We can grab dinner at Bill Grey's before it closes at 5pm and enjoy the exhibits before the DVC show. My kids love Strong Museum, Bill Grey's and Disney, so this will be such a treat for them on a miserably cold, wet November day.

Thanks for the heads up, Lisa! I'll report back tomorrow morning about the show.:cheer2:

Just got home from the dvc road show at Strong Museum. It was definitely well done, characters for the kids, (Micky and Minnie, Chip and Dale). 60 minute presentation during which they gave away 25 points to use for a stay, 100 disney dollar gift card, kodak digital frame, gift basket with lots of goodies. Sadly we did not win anything. There was a room with desserts afterwards, mad chocolate, yikes! even a fudge bar with assorted fudge, fruits, wine, beer, punch, all kinds of yummy treats. Oh and they gave every member a free year membership to the Strong Musuem. I thought that was great (family membership)
Also got dvc mickey ears upon arrival. Very fun night. Nice presentation also showcasing upcoming blt and the cars land in Disneyland

Better said, what were the incentives for add-ons for BLT at the show??

akghutton
11-13-2008, 09:05 PM
OK, here are the event only incentives offered tonight:
$104 per point AKV - they did say AKV will be going up to $112PP soon
$112 per point BLT

$8 per point credit for AKV add ons
$5 per point credit for BLT add ons
credits may be applied toward downpayments
no closing costs

Additional incentives
For 100 point add-ons - in addition to above price credits you get a 3 night stay in the treehouse villas, with first choice of reservations before reservations open to SSR members or other DVC members

For 160 point add -ons - 3 night stay @ Regency hotel in NYC plus 2 Disney Broadway show tickets OR 5 night stay in 2 bedroom @ SSR plus $250 prepaid Visa card

For 200 point add ons - 5 night stay @AKV in 2 bedroom plus 3 days of fastpasses plus $300 visa card

For 270 point add ons - 6 night stay @ BLT in 2 bedroom villa plus 3 days of fastpasses plus $400 visa card OR 3 night cruise for 4 people in a cat. p room plus 4 nights in 2 bedroom at SSR plus 3 days of fastpasses

For 360 point add ons - Adventure by Disney trip for 2 people plus $500 visa card.

The whole experience tonight was wonderful, pure Disney. Loved talking with Dee V. Cee, she was hysterical. The free year membership to Strong Museum was such a fantastic surprise. We love our Disney!!! Pixie Dust was sprinkled in Rochester NY tonight!:thumbsup2

Thank you!

So, if you choose to add-on at the show, there are no developer points for SSR. For a 100 point add-on, it may be better to get the 100 developer points not at the show.

Which is more valuable, 100 developer points for SSR, DL or World Passport or a 3 night stay in the Treehouse Villas?

Tough choice?

Am I correct in my assumption that there are no developer points being offered?

Thanks,
Jerry(jjgraff30)

incentives were either for akv or blt
100 pt was $8 off for akv $5 off for blt
there were incentives for each level of 100 pt add on 160 200 all the way up to 380 or something like that. I did not write anything down because I did not plan on adding on at this time, although looks like many did. You also got with each add on a gift card 200, 300 , 400 depending on pts. Also trips to ssr treehouse villas, nyc, and with the largest pt add on you got an adventures by Disney trip. Sorry not specific, but I was not going to add on so I did not document anything. I did not think it was any different from when we get promotions in the mail to add on.

I did not hear anything about developer points at all.

akghutton
11-14-2008, 05:23 AM
No mention of developer point that I heard. I few other cool things about the show itself. They handed out cute Mickey DVC pins, the Mickey ears with DVC logo, a really nice vinyl DVC folder with pen, writing pad and DVC info when we entered the show, handed out packs of Disney card games to the kids and free passes to ride the train or merry-go-round. They also had a Kid's Club set up, so that the kids didn't have to sit through the show. My kids loved it. They had games, toys, movies character photo opts and coloring tables. In addition, the dessert reception after was great. Platters of cookies, candies, fruit, dips, punch, water, beer, wine and a fudge station! The fudge reminded me of the Candy shop at the Boardwalk. The DVC castmembers were very nice; we enjoyed speaking with many of them. For those of you going with kids, we arrived at the museum at 4pm. We were the first ones there for the DVC show. They gave us our ears and lanyards and let us in the museum to play for free. Because the museum closes at 5pm, we had the entire museum to ourselves from 5pm to about 6:45. There was only one other family, and they were with us. My kids had a blast. They did everything they've ever wanted to do there, but usually can't because of crowds. VERY COOL!!!
Even if you don't think you are adding on at this point, the show is definitely worth attending for a fantastic dose of Disney Magic. I can't say enough, obviously;)

Does anyone know if there are restrictions for the 3 night booking at Treehouse Villas? (weekend nights, season choices)??

akghutton
11-14-2008, 05:55 AM
A few of the bonus stays with add-ons had notes indicating that they would be good for stays during value seasons - but that might have been for the 3 night cruise - I can't remember.

One cool thing about the treehouses is that they will be 3 bedrooms, sleeping nine, but one of the bedrooms will have bunkbeds. That was news to me. My kids would love to stay there.

Thanks for the discription AKG. It makes me want to stay for the show. Although I'm fighting sick kids.

I like the treehouse stay but I don't know if we would be able to use it. We always travel at school breaks - usually President's week and that is beyond the 11 month window when we could reserve.

ok now I'm a little leery about going. We do not own DVC (as of yet, hee, hee) but we received an invitation to this event in the mail. I figured it was because we've shown interest in dvc on the disney website. We responded that we would attend but now I'm seeing that you have to be a dvc member already? I'm confused. Is it also for people who don't own yet but are interested in more info? Surely they are not offering free stuff to just anyone who attends, right?

It is for current members and potential members, those who showed interest in DVC in the past, but have yet to purchase. Anyone who attended, member or non-member, received the free gifts. There was no difference in how individuals were treated.

lisareniff
11-14-2008, 02:59 PM
They have 2 different versions of the 'show'. You were probably invited to the non-member show where they will skew the information more toward those that are new to the DVC system and the member 'show' might not have that introductory information and would be more about add-ons. I was invited to the member shows at 7pm on Thurs, Fri., Sat, and Sun. and 4pm on Sat. I'm sure even if you did sign up for a member show that you, being a savvy DISboard member, will fit in just fine.

I don't think it will be a problem at all. The woman who I spoke with, who organized it, said they were expecting a certain amount of no shows. She was reassuring me that if we had to bail before the 'show' that was fine.

I'm still not sure why they call it a 'show'. I guess I will find out on Sunday...if the stars align.

I'm really quite sure if your name is on the registration then you will be able to attend even if your husband does not attend.

We attended the show tonight but couldn't win anything since we're Canadian. We did get mouse ears which we'll have embroidered at MK on Tuesday. The prizes were the same as previously posted. The Strong Museum of Play is a blast. My teens had a great time.

Here's me with Deevy See!

There's a post here on Mousecellanoeus about the details - if I were an SSR owner, I don't think I would be happy.http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=28738526#post28738526 See post #39.

Yep. I did see that. Forgot it wasn't on this thread. I pasted it below from Dr&momto2boys post in the above thread.

I was hoping someone would know the restrictions on the deal. You know that fine print that always comes along with it.

I just wanted to add the offer at the DVC Travel Show in NY:

Can't wait to see future offers...and I hope they have a travel show or more likely Doorway to Dreams event in Chicago before April next year. (That's when I want to add on!)

Just got back from the show and added on! We did not get the Treehouse Villa offer but the guide told me there was no restrictions except that it had to be used by next fall and you obviously can't stay until they open in June. I am not sure when I could have booked though....he did say that there was NO restriction on what days you could use the stay.

I could have sworn he said you have a year but maybe I am wrong since we didn't look into that one as much. It was definitely a year for the SSR and AKL free stay offer. Yes, they open in June.

The show was great, we got there at about 2PM and checked in at the desk and played in the museum until the show at 7, so the free admission was a nice bonus! Ended up adding on at AKV, I had been considering an add on and the incentive of $8 off per point, especially with points going up in January, as well as the treehouse stay and no closing costs had me sold. My daughter was the designated "cheerleader/screamer" for the 7PM show on Saturday so if you were at that one, well she was the screamer. I had it in my head about the add on prior to the show, so it wasn't like I was talked into anything, and it was absolutely a no pressure presentation, you didn't even have to talk to the sales reps unless you wanted to. The museum membership was a nice bonus and she loved the character greeting and dessert reception. I don't think I would have even considered going for BLT. Not only is the point price high, the point requirement for stays is high as well so it just wasn't for me, I like the most bang for my buck :) AKL will be just perfect :)

The show was definitely great, we did not add on anymore right now even though we wanted to. My son won the 25 AK points and the giant giraffe (Steve), we had a great time at the museum and will be using that free membership quite a few times as the kids loved the museum and did not want to go home. Buffalo,NY signing on!

We were at the 4:00 show yesterday. Yes, we added on 100 points at Bay Lake Towers. I already knew I wanted to add on at some point and we just couldn't turn down the priority booking at the TreeHouses. We are SSR members already and are so excited about the TreeHouses:yay: We bought through resale the first time around and about 3/4 of the way through the process I decided we would go through Disney for any add ons. I just don't think the savings is enough to go through all that hassle. Our Bay Lake Towers points are already showing in our account!

Our 2.5 year old had a blast at the museum and we can't wait to go back, although I'm sure she will be expecting to see Mickey next time too!

Unfortunately we spent most of the reception talking to a guide, so we missed Chip n Dale and the treats. We did get to see Mickey and Minnie on the way out though which of course my daughter loved...she kept asking for Chip n Dale though, she loves those guys, she was more excited to see them on stage during the presentation then when Mickey and Minnie came out. Oh well... we'll see them on our next vacation!!!:yay:

We went on Friday & added on 100 pts @ AKV. We also own @ SSR so we are very excited about the Treehouse Villas. I didnt know we had till June 2010.. I thought they told us we could book after June 09, but needed to use by Oct 09. I will be very happy if we get a longer window. 4 months would be hard since there are not many room.

I have to say that Disney went above & beyond what we had expected. While we were looking over what we wanted to purchase, one of the cast members asked our 8 year old if she would like to see Mickey & Minnie because they were getting ready to go, He even used our camera to take a picture of her for us. Gotta love Disney !!!!

I just got some clarification from MS. The three nights at THV must be used consecutively. Also, when MS calls us to book the nights (probably the end of Jan.) we can book from June 1, 2009-May 31, 2010 and we can use other points we have to add on to those three nights. So, basically we get up to a 15 month booking window ahead of everyone else. SWEET DEAL!!! :cool1:

Also, depending on what season you book in, those 3 nights are worth a whole lot more than 100 developer points. :thumbsup2

Just a hypothetical question... but just wondering...

Could you purchase two contracts and get the incentives for both? Such as 100pts and 160pts? I'd rather have those incentives than the 270pt ones. And if I bought 270pts, I think I'd break it up into 2 contracts anyway.

(Not that it matters, since obviously I wasn't there anyway and couldn't do it, but I'm just hoping that I will be invited to a show near me before we add on early next year.)

Yeah, i'm thinking about Jan 2010 marathon weekend for the whole family, I didn't know we could add on to that with existing points! I'm thinking five or six days in a treehouse and maybe save AKL for a solo trip that use year. Hopefully there will be availability that weekend!

When you add-on other points, do they maintain their current home resort or can you use non-SSR points on this specific Treehouse reservation to extend past 3 days? Or do you need SSR points to extend past the 3 nights??

We added 50 points on to what we already have last night. Strong Museum of play was awesome! A free year for membership at the museum... that is fantabulous!!! so we stood in line at the museum at like 2PM and the normal checkin people kicked us over to the DVC member line... ears, lanyards (which kids had ripped through within the hour).... and we were on our way to play....
They also gave us free tickets to ride the carousel and train (normally a $0.75 charge). I'll attach a pic of that card.

The way it was explained to me we could use whatever points we wanted to to extend the 3 days, we already own SSR, & we added on AKV last night. We have an august use year for SSR, so they made our AKV points August also. We can use those AKV points for other resorts now or wait until Kidani Village opens & book there. We went today and we absolutely loved it! This was our first-ever DVC presentation, and although it was extremely tempting, we decided not to buy. The offers and incentives were great, but my dh stood firm.

It was such a nice little get-away. Our kids had such a blast, and my eyes filled with tears when Mickey came out. The desserts were really spectacular, and what a thrill to get a year membership at the Strong Museum! We also loved the Mickey ears and a CM gave our girls some pins. We went into the Butterfly Garden and I'm so glad we did- that was a real treat. It was a great day!

I was there on Sunday - the 4pm show. It was a little frustrating that one family won BOTH of the big giveaways.

I had to sneak out just before the end to use the restroom. Did they hand out the museum memberships there? Or were they going to be sent to the addresses we gave? If I have to miss out, so be it, but I had a great time at the museum even though I wasn't there with kids.

One custodian tried to yell at us for being in the museum after 5pm, so we double checked with a worker who said it would be open until 10 - I had thought it was only open until 7. I had so much fun. No lines to play with anything. It almost felt like we had the place to ourselves.

I did make to and back from the Strong Museum. I only went with my DD7. Unfortunately DH is out of town and my older daughter was not feeling well and stayed home (it's nice when they are old enough to do that) but did call me every hour or so. It was great to visit the museum, especially when it emptied out at 5 and DD7 practically had the place to herself. I was having hard time being able to stay until the end with my sick one at home and my little one staying up too late so I asked if I could do the back room part first and then the presentation. I really didn't need much.

DD got a few treats and I sat down with a guide. I feel a little bad because I felt like I was interrogating her with some specific questions and at that point in the day I was totally fried from too much play and probably not the friendliest. I was in no condition to decide about an add-on. I really loved the idea of the bonus treehouse stay but I don't think I can purchase BLT without seeing the models. I just don't know if I love it or not.

I did make sure to get the membership at Strong which was very very nice of them to be giving out. Thank you DVC!!

Hey Paul can I ask what incentives you got for 50pts. I had my heart set on adding 50pts but it was not big enough for them to mention. So I was dissapointed and left. Just the 8pts off ? We attended the 7pm show tonight. What a great time we had! It was a very fun way to spend our Sunday. One lucky guy won the first two prizes, that had to be great! Good for him and his family! The person sitting next to us won, that's about as close as we came!
I was very tempted to add on, but my better senses got the best of me (my wife wouldn't let me go talk to the sales rep. she knows I would've added on!) The incentives weren't as good as when we bought this past April, I think there will be better incentives in the future. I actually have plenty of points right now, so there was no hurry.
It was all very nicely done, kudos to Disney!

We went on Friday to the 4:oo show and yes we bought at AKV!! The deals and free week were too much to pass-up. Plus we can change from a 5 day at a 2bd to 7 days in a 1 bd. That works out much better since we are only a family of 3.

We went to the Sunday 11am show and loved it, it was really well put on. We didn't win anything but the free museum membership is prize enough for us. We live less than 10 minutes away and go to the museum pretty often, my SIL actually works there. A family membership is usually $85! The best part was my DD meeting Mickey, both he and Minnie spent a few minutes with both my DS and DD, it made my DD comfortable enough to grab onto Mickey's nose and not want to let go! :) Both kids loved the AK drummers, my DD was dancing and clapping along, I can't wait to get her to wdw to see how she reacts to everything. We decided that now isn't the time for us to buy into dvc but really hope to in the future.

just the 8 points. We were going to do 30 pts but they only finance 50 and up. Looking at the difference between 30 and 50, it was that much so we just ran with the 50.

This boosts us to 220 per year.

I don't know if anyone mentioned the top tiers... for like 200+ points, you also got 3 days of instant fast passes. so like you don't even wait for the fast passes, you just show your MAGICAL fastpass and you're in.

Walton, NY checking in! We were there (dd10 and myself) on Saturday at 10 am.. left here at 5:30 in the morning to make it!

Loved the presentation, we did buy 160 points at AK. For that we got 5nights at Saratoga, 250 gift card... NOw I'm debating. We already own at Sheraton (I thought Disney would be much more expensive... this really seems a better deal with the points.. I love the fact that the points can rollover, unlike Sheraton points).

But I already have booked with free dining a week in August at Caribbean beach. Sitting here looking if I can afford the extra 250 a month for this and if it is really worth it? Will prices really go that much higher in a year or two when our car payments stop? Can someone advise? lol I want it so bad in my heart, but the head keeps saying uh uh! :rotfl:

Buying any timeshare is an individual decision, but I for one am glad that I bought in to DVC back in 2003. We just did an add on for AKV at the travel show. For me it really is worth it. When I do the math, the initial purchase amount is already paid off in the accomodations I have spent time in during the past five years, and it is just nice not having to worry about the hotel rooms. We can get an AP, go a few times a year, and only worry about getting there and back. It has been worth it for my daughter and I, and I will have it until i'm 70 years old! That is a long time from now to enjoy trips to Disney! If you look at my signature line the only trip that wasn't on DVC points was the first trip, All Star Music. I bought sight unseen after our first trip to the world, I just knew that was what I wanted. Look at it this way, I could have poured that money into stocks, where would I be with that now?

We live in Cols, OH, and I did a scan for Disney (we have Dish Network). In the next few days, there are a ton of Disney specials. One was around doing Disney on a budget, one was called Sprlurge, one was the the special that was on last year, etc.

So, if you have a DVR and can search, there were several to record. I can't wait, as I really need a Disney fix right now. :rolleyes1
