Every morning I get up and get on the treadmill before breakfast. Pretty much right after I get off I eat my cereal (time restrictions) and I was wondering if that was a bad thing?? How long do you wait to eat after working out?

TIA

You know, I'm not sure of the health issues about timing of eating after w/o. I have eaten just before I go out for a long walk/wog (fruit or something small). Usually when I'm finished I have not found it a negative feeling to eat right after. I think there is a recommendation about eating a bit more on the protein side right after a rough workout.

Eat after your workout. To help your muscles recover and to replace their glycogen stores, eat a meal that contains both protein and carbohydrates within two hours of your exercise session if possible.

I took this quote from this Mayoclinic site (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/exercise/HQ00594_D)

Thanks for the reply! After my treadmill I usually have my cereal - I don't know how much protien is in it, but its high in carbs I'm sure! Maybe tomorrow I'll have my Smart Ones breakfast sandwich with ham and egg.
Thanks for the info!!!

My trainer says to eat "within a half an hour of your last rep" if that helps.

I've read that milk is a great thing to have after your workout - something about the right mix of proteins and carbs, so the cereal may already be working for you.

I eat a banana and 16 almonds with a bottle of flavored water (I'm a Fruit-2-O fan) if it's not mealtime. I often wind up taking my run before dinner, so I'll eat whatever is for dinner in a "light" portion size if it's my regular mealtime.
