I collect them as well. I have 8 right now. I think there should be one more coming out this year. It usually comes out the first weekend in December.

You might want to review this other thread on the board discussing the MGM/DHS cels.

We collect them as well , although not as many as you guys we hope to build our collection up over the next few years.

Checked the studios park galleries at Disneyland Paris but no joy, was not expecting to find any but thought i would have a look anyway.

I am planning a purchase in the next few weeks for DW christmas, as a wee suprise . I cannot make my mind up and have narrowed it down to two , will need to get a move on and make a decision to get it delivered on time.

Paul.

Which ones were you thinking of?

The two i cant choose between are Dumbo and Sorcerer Mickey i wish i could see them in person to decide:confused3 , but as i dont have that option it will have to be from the pictures from the links .

Will make my decision in the next week or two.

Oh the pressure.....

We just got back from the first day signing of the latest cel "director's choice". It is the nicest since "Gala Premiere".
Veronica has every Ink & Paint cel. There are about thirty total. The rarest being "Tarzan".

I am addicted to these. We are ordering #18 on wed.

David Rippenberger is evil for getting me started collecting but it is worth it to have beautifull art on my walls and my DW and DD love them.

I swear David could talk an Eskimo into collecting ice...

Have you ever talked to Lynn (his wife). I got to get one of my cells in person on release day, and she acts so embarrased that he talks so much about her and her work. But you can tell he is just proud.

I am not sure of the total number, but the sold out ones are hanging on the walls of the exit of the animation room in EPCOT.

I know I personaly have 18 but there were many before I got into collecting.

I have three or four myself, but that isn't much of this type of cel. Didn't they used to do a couple a year or so? The one I have here in my office is sorcerer mickey form 2001, and it was the first one I bought.

I think starting three years ago they started making 4 a year (March, June, September, and December).

I know they have been doing the series for 5+ years and only in the last couple of years have they limited the editions down to 1000 or 1500. The best part of preordering is that you get the postard sized print autographed by all the artists.

And I agree that there are 3-4 released per year.

Hi Andrea,

I am considering purchasing this one for our collection.(how about you are you buying)

i think we are all getting addicted to this , ha ha.

Only problem is i am wary without seeing it in person if that makes sense, but our next trip is not scheduled till next year.

Ps thanks folks for the answers to my previous question guys about the size of the collection.

Hey Paul,

I broke down and bought Alice this morning. I wasn't going to since my husband and I are unemployed... But it looked too cute. This is my fourth or fifth one that I bought without seeing. I haven't been disappointed! I can usually tell online if I am going to like it or not. When I saw the Ariel one a year and a half ago, I knew that I wouldn't like it (and didn't buy it), and once I saw it in person, I was right.

Hi Andrea,

Think i will order too, spoke to dw who also liked the picture.

We like your reasoning "too cute" , ha ha.

Good luck to u and your Husband on your job search, things going a bit crazy over this side of atlantic too, a lot of good hard working people being laid off due to this downturn. Hopefully it will turn round soon

Hi, ordered my Alice cel in the gold frame and it looks great. What do others collect in the framing option? Just curious on what collectors are purchasing.

I get the ones that are in the black frame with pin. The pins are pretty neat and they are limited. I have only three that do not have the pins in them (bought them too late). I am not a big pin collector, but I thought it brings a special look to the piece.

Haven't counted them all yet, but think there must be well over 15 in total

We, like most of you, are addicted to collecting these.

I am just curious to see how many of you all started collecting because you met David Rippenberger and he talked to you about them? We first met him about 4 years ago and have been collecting every release since then. Remember if you pre order or buy it in person on release day you get a postcard of the art signed by all the artists.

Michael

you can pre order by contacting Disney Event Services at 407-827-7600

We have also been influenced by David and have several of the cels. We love seeing him. They're all in the traditional black frame except for Tarzan which was only available unframed (the only ones left). I've never seen a 50's Prime Time with Donald Duck. Anyone have a picture?

We first met David 14 years ago and he paid great attention to my DD and DS who were watching him painting and we had to drag them away. He got me hooked and has spent my money wisely over the years on other purchases, as well as becoming a great friend who we meet when ever we are over.

We visit with David every time we are at WDW. Since we visit the parks 2 to 3 times per year we have got to know him pretty well.
