Hi Everyone!
I am getting excited about Goofy now. I did a long run of 14 yesterday and it felt great so hopefully my training will stay on track.
I am thinking of all our runners at Marine Corp this morning and hoping they are having fun.
Take care!

Hello everyone, and good morning to all those TOTers that were out late last night.
Stacie: Hey girl, sorry you having the motivation blues. Hang in there. Check out the thread about the Mr. Marathon! It has a link to his web site. Maybe he can give you some motivation.
Cecilia: Your looking forward to the Goofy??:scared1: Wow you must be doing pretty good with the training to say your actually looking forward to it!! Good job and keep it up!
Jeff: ALOHA!! (I can't to be hangin at the Poly in Jan!) I thank you for trying to get some peeps to get some hats!! Still not sure if I can get them by Jan if I don't get the order in by Beginning of Nov. sometime. I have a total of 22 items so I need 14 more.
AFM: I did 7 miles this morning in mistly on and off rain. Hey, I go out there and did it didn't I? And after all, that's all that matters right?? So there.
I need to go grocery shopping, do laundry and work on the design for the nametags for the Meet in Jan.
Take care everyone!!

HI everyone!
I have been MIA. Work has just been crazy. I did get up and do 4 miles this morning. This was a short week since last week was over 10 for the long run.
I just cruised the Marine Corp marathon site to see if you could track runners, but couldn't find a way. My boyfriend's doing that one this morning. He said it was POURING yesterday so I hope it's better weather today!
Have a good week!

I was amazed this AM on how it looked outside. It's supposed to be Sunny in South Florida, but with this wacky weather pushing up from the south and a cold front pushing in from the North (an will win out) Just looked dreary. Can't see how some of you do it with grey skys. My body just doesn't like it. The rain was very weird also. It was misty, very, very light rain and blows around.
Thought I would snap a photo with my cell phone while I was walking by Brian Piccolo Park heading west on my route for a 7 miler this AM. Time was about 7:45am.

High tomorrow will be 81 and low of 60. High on Tuesday will be 72 and an overnight low of 56!!!! Of course it will only last a few days, but anything helps and it will help with the overall "cooling" of the weather here in South Florida.
Have a great Sunday everyone and keep up with the training -
:yay: Only 2 months and 2 weeks until Marathon Weekend Races start!!! :cool1:

Hi everyone! I got out a couple of times this weekend to go running. I'm getting better at running continuously. I managed to run my 3 miler without stopping and almost managed to do the same on my 5 miler. I did end up walking for a bit during my 5 miler because I started having a pinchy pain in my butt. So I knew I had to slow down. I'm going to ask my PT about it tonight when I see him. I'm sure he must love me - I have a pain in my foot.. I have a pain in my butt
Can't wait to hear how everyone did at MCM and ToT!
Judy - Hope you're feeling better soon
Tracy - Would loooove some of that warm weather up here. It's hard to be cute in running tights!
Stacie - I usually check out the WISH board too when I need motivation to go out running.
Take care everyone!!

HI team. I did 60 minutes on the TM late yesterday. This is after taking the kids to two halloween parties and also recovering from an all nighter crafting party where I stayed up for 24 hours. It was an interesting weekend.
The TEAM at MCM all did FABULOUS!!! I was so happy to hear of the smashing results! WTG!
I can't wait to read about TOT. That is on my list, so hopefully one day I will make it!!
Judy - I really hope you feel better. My offer for chicken soup is still open!! :grouphug:

I was in the mountains all weekend for a Women's Retreat. I did fairly well on my eating all things considered - a chocolate fountain was involved.
Saturday I got up and ran about 4 miles on a trail. That was a really great, fun run. Took about 47 minutes, so a 11:45 ish pace. Not to shabby considering the grass/dirt trail- and the HILLS. I wish we had something similar in my town. I also found a couple of new running buddies.
Tackling Mt Laundrymore is my priority for the day. I will get a 4 mile run in sometime. Whether it is a quick trip to the gym, a post dinner run, or picking my Kindergartener up in the double jogger - I don't know yet. It really depends on the atitude of the 2 yo and how quickly I can fold 4 baskets of clothes.
bunnyfoo - too bad about your bum... hope it feels better soon! And Way to go!!! on your continuous runs! Those are always my pride moments.
Judy - Take care of yourself and get better.
Tracy I have a love/hate relationship with running in the rain. If I am upset or very angry - a hard run in the rain always makes me feel better. If I am in a good mood to start with - I hate running in the rain. But either way - I will agree, the sky just looked eerie in your picture.
Stacie - Great walk! :yay:
cecelia - aren't we a strange bunch of people? What normal person says I ran 14 miles - just for fun - and I feel great! :upsidedow I hope to do goofy next year (But don't tell DH, I barely got him on board for the Princess 1/2)

We did the Hampton Half & Rockfest yesterday.
That hubby of mine really rocks! Chad did the Hampton Half yesterday in 1:45:24!!!!!!
Unfortunately, my race was somewhat crappy.
It was hard from the get-go. First, there were the crazy old biddies that annoyed the heck out of us. If they saw any 'walker' dare run/jog even for a second, they woould yell 'cheating! cheating!' or "he/she's running! No running!' And they talked LOUDLY the whole race, even when not complaining about everyone else. They were right behind mom & I for a few miles. My mom's cell rang and she answered it and jogged a bit while doing so for whatever reason. They started yelling. I turned back and said "oh for Christ's sake!" They still didn't get the hint. The yelled at another woman who stopped to get something out of her shoe. She then ran to meet up with her friend just ahead. These crazies were awful. We kept trying to get away, but they'd always catch up. Honestly, none of the "cheaters" were going to win walking awards. No worries, old biddies!
Yes, we know the rules state that if you run at all, you should start with the runners. If we were doing intervals and walking nearly fast enough for a walkers award, I would understand. Many times my mom jogs a bit beside me (who is walking!) to relax her legs. The woman has fibromyalgia - let her do whatever she wants to make her legs & feet feel better!
I stopped at the first potty stop, and told mom to go on. I knew I couldn't keep up that pace for 8 more miles. As I came out of the porta-potty, there were John & Karen! So, I got to hang with Karen for the rest of the race. THANK GOD! Around mile 11 I kept thinking of telling her to go ahead, but in the end I didn't. Her, John and I finished together. Well, John had to run ahead at the very end to beat us. LOL Angie (pungodingy) finished after us & I was very proud of her.
This race was so poorly organized. I really doubt I will do it again. In fact, the day of the race, they kept changing the start line from one block to another on Ocean Dr. 5 mins. before the start, they moved us all back again. Even the announcer was pissed.
The best parts of the weekend: having dinner & talking with John & Karen the night before. Getting more than 8 hours sleep. YAY! Walking the race with Karen. And then being able to get showers at my mom's friend's house at the beach since there were no public ones available when we finished.
Now the really bad part. :sad2:
I have always had a problem with leg swelling/circulation in general. By the time we got home last night around 8pm, I was in serious pain. I immediately got into the house, onto the couch & had my legs propped up on pillows. This helped alot. But if I even moved them to reposition or something, the pain was really bad. Chad brought me my pajamas in the living room to change. Standing was excrutiating. I was bawling like a baby by the time I got them on & moved to the recliner. I then sat there awhile while Chad ran to the store to get me some diuretic pills - my toes looked like baby sausges, and I had no ankles! So, it was a very long night with my legs up in the air (no comments, Mike, Howard, etc.). I am feeling ok now. Fingers crossed that since I am upright, fluid doesn't start rushing to my legs again.
The only pain I can compare this to is when I had my first lymphodema episode in my left arm in Vegas a long time ago. And if I have lymphodema in my legs, well....let's just not go there. Thank God I already took today off from work. I was supposed to go shopping with mom all afternoon, so we'll see how I am doing in a couple hours.

Hey all!
Huge congrats to all teh MCM and ToT WISHers. I'm so jealous. ;)
Had a stonker 6-miler. Stupid stuff. A reminder that I;m not stretching my hammy enough adn a blister from my orthodics driving me insane. Coudl have toughed it out, but just didn't seem worth doing real damage. Start yoga at my new center tonight. Looks like I'll jus tchalk of fMonday nights completely, as it's teh longest run during the week and tehn yoga. SHoudl be good fro the body to stretch well post run, though.
Tracy - You want weird weather. We went from blue skies to slsh beating on our car back to blue adn over again in heartbeats yesterday. It was so nasty out tha tit blew the doors open in church, but when we left a few min later, we coudl nto find a cloud in teh sky. Weird. GOod for oyu for gettign out in the rain!
:sad2: We're supposed to get our first snow today. Why is my prime runnign weatehr window, so darn small? :sad2: And, yes, I woud love some cheese with my whine. ;)

Kristi Take care of yourself, and I hope you're feeling better soon. Sorry the race didn't go as well as you would like.
Tracy I thought ouf you and your "pinky pistols" yesterday! I went out for my 6 mile run. Somewhere at about 4-5 miles, the skies opened up, and it was already windy. So the water was flying off me--pinky pistols galore!
Carrie DS had XC regional on Staurday, otherwise I was due for 6 miles and would have come out to Kensington. Although sounds like your run was cruddy.

I am starting my marathon "diet" today, stating off my cutting out my pepsi addiction. I have alot of weight I need to lose before the marathon so need to clean up the eatting, pump up the workouts and add some weight and stretch training to the routine.
Welcome back to all ToT'ers it was nice seeing some of you on Saturday night. However, I think we missed alot of ya.

As for me I got 6 miles in yesterday. Felt pretty good other than the wind smacking me in the face and it was cool out. First little bits of snowflakes here today. Brrr.

Wow - I have been out of the loop lately - well with posting here anyway - I have been steadily working on my marathon training. This past Saturday I hit the 12 mile mark (so far the furthest distance I have gone) I was having my normal monthly breathing problems so I had to walk alot of it. I really need to get into a better habit of warming up my legs prior to a run - I normally start out good - and am able to get through the first mile but then I have to stop and walk for a bit because the legs are burning and then I start to run a bit again and I alternate between running and walking - I am sure my running pace could be slowed down a bit since I seem to run/walk at the same pace as a group of people in my marathon training and they run the whole time. I also think I like my walk breaks and rely only them a bit too much.
I have a half marathon Nov 9 so only 1 more long run before that. I have kinda combined a training program for the half marathon with full marathon training and so far the half marathon training has been further distances then the full marathon training (that is all changing this week and next)
I have a question for those experts out there - since I have the half marathon in 2 weeks should I follow the half marathon training program and taper prior to the half marathon or use the actual half marathon as a training run for my full marathon (I have never done either) I just don't know what I should run this Saturday - the half marathon training calls for an 8m long run and the full marathon training calls for an 11m long run - I am actually thinking of doing 12m again or maybe even try for 13m. I am usually not too sore in the days after my long runs but throw a little 5k race in the mix and then I am sore for days.
Sorry for being so long winded there!! LOL I am looking forward to the marathon in Jan except I am getting kinda nervous - 26 miles is a LONG way) I am proud of myself actually making it to 12 miles I just can't imagine how proud I will be of myself after making it 26 - its just getting out there and actually doing it that is scary to me.
Judy - I just wanted to say I hope you feel better real soon.
Tracy- funny that you get pinkie pistols - I end up giving the thumbs up sign all the time - I don't even realize it and then before you know I'm like the Fonz!! I am loving this weather we are having down here - to bad it won't last longer.
Kristi - thanks for the report of the Hampton Half - too bad those biddies had to be annoying - why people have to be that way I will never know. Sorry to hear about your legs and hopefully the fluid will stay away. Chad had a great time - that is AWESOME.
Chris - welcome to the WISH team!!!
Kim - I wish I could be strong enough to cut out the 1 can of Coke I like to have a day - well some days its more than that and sometime its more soda during the day then I would like but its SO hard to cut it out.
TOT races and MCMers - Congrats on your races and welcome back!!!

Jeanne - Glad you got to see Debra. I "met" her during the full marathon last year. She flip flopped with us dozens of times. Mel and I didn't know it was actually Debra until after the fact. It was fun!!!!
Tricia - YOU CAN DO IT! I did the full last year, thought I was going to die. But after the fact it was one of the best experiences of my life. It takes dedication and determination!!!! And I finished!!!

Chris - Welcome!!!
Tricia - I would just sub teh half for your 14-miler adn do teh schedule fro teh full (provided we are on the same program). The 6-miler this weekend gives you a nice little taper and teh 8-miler after is not too bad. JMO. GOod luck!

Hi everyone! I went to see my PT last night and he said I pulled my piriformis muscle. He gave me a couple of stretches and said that I could keep running. Yay! So with that, I'm going out for a 3-miler after work. I'll probably go a bit slower just in case. Right now I want to make sure I can stick to my training schedule and get my miles in. I have to admit that part of me was hoping that he'd say no to running because it is mighty chilly today
Kim - Thanks! I'm hoping to get a much better time than I did at the Scotiabank 1/2! And... I'm with you on the diet! I've got to start eating better but have to admit that it's a lot harder in the winter. But if I can stick to it, I can spoil myself when I get to Disney!
Chris - Welcome! :wave2:
Kristi - *lol* at the walkers although I wouldn't have wanted to walk around them either. It's kind of funny to read about walkers complaining about runners instead of the other way around.
Kat - I'm slowly building up a Mt. Laundrymore of my own. I'm looking forward to the extra hour we get this weekend so that I can hopefully make a dent in some of my chores AND have some time for myself...

Sorry I've been MIA. It's midterm season, what can I say. I've only been posting on my team thread.
Anyways, no running for me today. I'm still recovering from Sunday's awesome race (see Race Report thread) and tomorrow is my final Teach for America interview. So send some pixie dust, good thoughts, and prayers this way.

I did 6 miles last night in the cold and wind. Was kind of proud of myself though. Last year I would have just went inside on the treadmill. Tracy, I'll take your 66 degree temps any day. :thumbsup2

The way it reads you have to do the Marathon at Disney World. In 2008 they gave the Coast to Coast medal to anyone who completed the Half Marathon or the Marathon at Disney World and then the 1/2 at Disneyland. I could just be reading too much into it, but that's how it reads to me.

I think they mean you must do one of the marathon events, either the full or the half. Afterall, they do call it Marathon Weekend. They probably just didn't want to be wordy. I would think the half in January is enough to qualify.

I read on Robert's site (They also are confused) that someone was told you can also get the medal if you do the Princess half so I'm still thinking it's just the wording. The Coast to Coast medal is really awesome too. I can't imagine they would want to exclude people doing the half because they want people out there to spend money and excluding 20,000 wouldn't be in their best interest I don't think.

Went out for a run last night... funny how posting here will do that :) It was really windy but I didn't notice the cold much after I settled into my run. I had been thinking about doing 30 minutes on my TM this morning but decided to hit the snooze button instead. If I had looked outside and seen the snow, I probably would have got up.
Kim - I strained my piriformis on my left side just before the Minnie back in May and my PT was able to get me back up and running in time. It was horrible last time - I had back pain and even walking hurt. This time, I only notice it when I sit for a long time or if I bend over slightly (ie. washing my mug in the sink). What does your DH do? So far, I've been stretching, icing and running slower... I'm praying that it will go away.

Roll on a tennis ball or foam roller.

Jeff - I ended up buying tennis balls at lunch because no one I know has one. Go figure! I don't have room for a foam roller at home but will try the one at the gym next week. I have The Stick but it's a bit tricky to get it over the right spot with the right pressure.
momoftwogirls - Yes! My TA was able to get us a discount at the Poly :) Always nice to save a little extra $$ Hopefully everyone else is able to take advantage of the code.

Yay! Good for you. I could apply the AP rate to my CSR room, but not the Poly! hmph! and that's where I need it the most! Crossing my fingers the Disney Visa code will help (if, when it's released) or some folks on these AP discounts at the Poly will cancel and I can grab the room! :goodvibes

As Tracy mentioned yesterday and today has been gorgeous weather here in south Florida (too bad it won't be here to stay though - so we are enjoying it while we can) I just HAD to get up this morning and get out for a run - it was 50 degrees - it was the very first time I wore my long sleeve running shirt that I bought in the beginning of the year. I only did 2 miles (due to time constraints) but that was good enough since my ears were bothering me by time I got home - I should have worn a beanie cap to cover my ears. I got in the shower and warmed up - I don't know how you northerners do it all winter long.
I am planning on getting another 4 miles in after work but walking this time - my friend is coming over and we are going to walk from my house to the beach and back - this is my normal weekday route when I decide to go outside instead of the TM.

In the "better late than never" category, I finally received my medal for my 5k race from September (2nd in age group). Yippee! My second piece of bling! Now I'm off to see if I can get an AP rate.
Update: Wow! Nothing out there for AP rates that weekend. Guess I'll keep my AAA rate at PO-FQ. So much for trying to stay at WL or BC. AKL is available, but I stayed there for Minnie and decided I prefer WL over AKL

Hello everyone,
My name is Lynn and like several others that have posted, have been trying to build up the courage to join in. So, here goes.
I was at the TOT Saturday night lined up in the walking corral when I saw this group of people in very bright shirts that seemed to be having a great time. Since I was having an attack of nerves, I was a bit jealous! Then I saw the motto on the back of your t-shirts and knew this was a group I'd like to know more about. I was too shy to approach you at the time, but to my great surprise found you through an internet search. As my husband pointed out, I seem to have found some kindred spirits. People who like to walk/run and really like WDW. I do have a question right off the bat. What does WISH stand for? It wasn't in the very good history of the group that I read.
Well, this is getting a bit lengthy so I will "talk" to you all again soon, I hope.

Welcome to the team Lynn. WISH stands for We're Inspired to Stay Healthy is what the word means, but it really means so much more. It really is a great place to meet people who love running/walking and have a love for Disney.
Glad to have you aboard!

Welcome to the WISH team Lynn,
We're all runners/walkers with a Disney problem.
You can not be shy around this group, it's not allowed. We meet up at Disney Races, and have meets to get to know each other, or reunion with those who have met at prior races. Sometimes members meet up at other races around the US. We're from all over the US, Canada, Europe, and South America.
Here is the history of the WISH racing team. It's been around for 4 or 5 years, and has come a long way since then.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and information. I missed the sign up for January Half at WDW but have registered for the Princess. I only started entering races this year and will do my first half at the Holiday Halfathon in Madeira Beach Dec. 14. Sounds walker friendly! Will check out the hats, thanks. Continually battle the shyness, but if it's not allowed will try to banish it!

Lynn - Welcome!!!!! Believe it or not, some of us were shy when we started here too. Please feel free to jump right in, though. We love hearing about the experiences of relative beginners (or people working towards new distances). You'll go through many firsts that we can't have back on our own runs, so we like to run vicariously through others. ;)

Vicky,
You might find a brand new tennis ball to be very stiff and not very flexible.
You can poke a hole in the seam of the ball with a screwdriver, a pair of scissors, or something similar. That way the air inside releases when you lay on it. Not so sore that way,

Lynn~ :welcome:
I went out for my 5 miler after work tonight. It was cold (in the low 50's or high 40's) and just getting dark when I started out. During the run I felt the familiar muscle groups that I used during the MCM on Sunday. I thought of words like - ouch, boy those are tight and I'm glad its only 5 miles tonight.
Here are the stats from my run tonight, my first since MCM:
Miles: 5.03
Time: 42:56
Pace: 8:33
Splits: 8:44, 8:37, 8:25, 8:29, and 8:27.
I am going to look at my schedule tonight and devise a training plan to take me up to the Philadelphia Marathon.
Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

Tonight's run was awful. What I originally thought was a charlie horse in my calf on Tuesday, I now believe is a tear in my calf muscle.
I was okay on Wednesday, and today at work. No pain. However, after the first half mile, something went wrong and the pain returned. I slugged out 3 1/2 miles, before shutting it down, and walking back to the start.
I'm gonna ice this bugger, take some Alieve, and take a week off. So there you have it, my body is rebelling.:lmao:

I ran 3 miles on my TM last night. It gets dark so early now - I figured I'd be better off staying inside. I haven't used my TM since March and I think I'll stick to running outside from now on. I really don't like it anymore. I was on for just under 30 minutes but it felt more like an hour. The weather is suppose to be nice and warmish for the next week so I'm looking forward to that. After work, I'm hoping to run for 30 minutes outside and then back home to give out candy!
Lynn - Welcome!!
Jeff - Thanks for the advice about the tennis ball! Definitely noticed the difference after letting some of the air out :) Hope your calves feel better soon!

Just completed my 13 week "starting all over" program this morning and ran my first 10K since my surgery and knee injury!!! :woohoo:
Ran it in 1:07:44, average pace was 10:55. As long as I'm under 11:00 I'm happy! :yay: Hopefully I'll be able to beat my Gobble Jog 10K time from last year after all. (Fingers crossed...) Sunday starts my half marathon training. I'll jump into week 6 of 15.
I'm trying not to think about having to start all over AGAIN after my next surgery in late January, this has been a real mental challenge for me! :scared:
This week I ran 13 miles, average pace for the week was 10:53. Hopefully, I'm getting my groove back.
Hope everyone has a fun Halloween! :goodvibes

Aloha Jeff Tell me more about the coast to coast metal. I think you posted something about it a week ago or so. Can you post a link to the info? Thanks in advance.
This is from a 2008 post about this year's inaugural Coast to Coast medal.
Here is the deal.....if you
are registered for the Disneyland Half Marathon and you finished the
Walt Disney World Marathon or Half Marathon this year (2008), you are
entitled to an additional medal. You do you not have to do a thing. We
will automatically know you completed the World race and are registered
for the Disneyland Half Marathon. We utilize the same registration
system and database on both coasts. You'll receive a wristband when you
pick up your packed that you must wear until you finish. After you
finish, you'll receive the special medal. We won't be mailing them out.
Also, there is no limit. The special medal will be given to everyone who
completes the WDW Marathon or Half Marathon and the Disneyland Half
Marathon this year.
Thanks!
Shannon
Disney's Wide World of Sports at the Disneyland Resort
In 2009, you run either the WDW half, full, or the Princess half. Then in Sept. 2009, you run the Disneyland half. Complete the races, and you get one of these:

Anyone? I have a Minnie Medal from this year, I was adding my newest medal to my curtain rod, and noticed that the medal is developing spots, this is not acceptable to me! I dont know what is causing them, they wont wipe off, and I'm afraid my medal is getting destroyed. Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do?
Kristi1357
11-01-2008, 08:27 AM
Angie - I haven't had that happen. I might try to wipe the spots with alcohol wipes or something of that nature. Try it on the back first to be sure it doesn't take any of the finish off. Alcohol is what we clean tv equipment with since it evaporates quickly & doesn't damage the equipment. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will post soon for you.
No training since my half last Sunday. My swelling issue is fine now. But Zack has developed a nice little pukey bug of some sort. He is still down for the count today. I might be getting it too. :sad2:
In any case, I plan to be back to training (for WDW) with a LR of 4 tomorrow.
dsnyfan21

Angie: I haven't noticed that either, but mine is in a shadow box?? Not sure but whatever you try - like Kristi said - try it on the back first.
GOt up and did a nice 4 mile speed walk this AM in 72 degree weather with a nice little breeze. awe.....
Doing well with my Half Marathon training for January...hope everyone is getting in the miles and trying to stay away from injury (JEFF!!!).I have 8 miles on tap for tomorrow.
