I rented at bwv back in April...took the tour while I was there....put down a $500.00 for 150 BCV pts, financed through Disney (only because I couldnt get hubby to agree, and even though we could have paid cash, grrrr.......MEN!) filled out the forms....received the fedex with the picture, backpack, and Guide book......sent in the balance of the deposit 2 weeks ago and the notarized agreement....so my question is.......how will I know when Im really "home"?

When you get a letter stating that the purchase has completed and you will be getting the deed in a few months time. At least that's when I considered myself HOME. I am still waiting on the deed though.
any long term members know how long it takes for the deed to come??

We bought OKW ini 2/98. We always have a 1 BR at OKW. We know when we are "home" when we walk in the door and everything looks like home from our previous 7 or 8 visits. We know where everything is located and the furniture is "homey". We can truly say that we are at our home away from home.

I didn't really feel like I was "HOME" until our first trip, when we checked in and NO money changed hands!!

As far as knowing when you purchase is done and you are in the system, we never got anything. They really don't notify you that your credit was approved. The only notice that people do get, and it seems to be rare, is that they need to increase their downpayment. I don't remember even getting a deed.
I just called to make reservations and they let me.
For me, being home is driving through the front gate and saying something goofy to the guard.

When you get your permanant membership cards. They come in a sleeve that says "It's Official!".

The Orange County Comptroller's Office (http://compt1.occompt.com/records/or.htm)
Choose "Search by name" and you can check if and when your deed was recorded. It took about 2 months after we closed to be recorded.
I know, it's a dry, governmental type answer, devoid of any magic. But it's also kind of neat.

Aside from the official end of it --- We felt "at home" when we made our first ressies as members....and headed down as members. Oh, by the way...we're heading home in t minus seven hours.............:bounce:

We signed the papers in Nov after touring WL and BW in Oct 2001.
When I was in FL in Dec 2001 I checked out Vero Beach. We have reservation on the Disney Magic for this Nov 30th, 2002.
Our first time "home" to VWL will be Oct 2003. So it will take us 2 years to get "home".

I feel like we're home in the minute I pull in to either OKW or BWV. Our 3 dds know exactly which room is theirs, and start throwing their stuff on the floor - JUST LIKE HOME!
Our DD asked me yeasterday how many days until we went to "our home away from home". 100 days from today - can't wait!!!
Kick it up a notch!

Regarding your 'MEN!!!' comment, although I know it was tongue in cheek - SOME of us men here on the DIS were the official 'instigators' in our respective 'Let's buy DVC' experiences!!! So it ain't all about the chromosomes! :D I'm sure that some others will back me up on that...

Maepartner: I am a new member and it felt great to get those first ressies but I think I will feel like I am "home" when I make my first trip in July. I am sorry dh would not agree. Maybe he will be more supportive when he takes that first trip "home". I never thought my dh would sign but he came around. However, I am glad you were able to join DVC. Congratulations and welcome home!:)

All of what everyone has said made me feel like I was at home but the first time I made sure the kids actually turned off all of the lights before we left our rooms, made me feel like I was REALLY at home and not just in a hotel room. Knowing that I would have to pay for that electricity in the long run made the difference for me.
