I went in January...... 4 day Wonder cruise and since we are U.S. citizens all we needed was a picture ID and a birth certificate with an official seal on it. We docked in Nassau and Freeport..... got off in Nassau and pretended we had a "day at sea" in Freeport. Hope this helps!

Hi Mermaid02, thanks for your help. I will consider the Birth cert. and photo ID, but what about my 4yr old daughter? I can try to get her a drivers license but I don't think I can get away with it ;) Would it be so much easier to get a passport so this way I don't have to carry all those documents around with me? Someone mentioned a Family passport do you know anything about that? Thanks again for you help. Oh yea since Im a huge Yankee fan Mrs. Garciaparra :p say hi to Nomar for me lol and we'l see him when he comes to the Stadium :p

I took my son, when he was five, to the department of transportation, and was able to get him a picture ID, that more or less looked like a driver's license. It only cost a couple bucks, and all i needed was his birth certificate to get this. Also because we do travel lots to places where passports are needed, we do have passports. For a cruise though, I normally take our birth certificates and photo ids.

Nomar says for you to tell Jeter he says "hey";)
I am not much of a world traveller so I know very little about passports, but Prymsu sounds like he/she knows what they are talking about. When the rest of the country wakes up and sees your post I'm sure you will get a lot more replies!

We are a family of five and I definitely found it easier to just carry around our passports than all the other documents. We have cruised DCL 5 times already with #6 booked for 8/3/02. When we first sailed back in '98 my DH and already had our passports. We decided to get the kids theirs. The kids are good for five years so next year we will renew them.
Plus, they came in very handy for some unexpected last minute trips out of the country for my oldest daughter.
Basically, I just find it very easy to carry five documents that are all the same size and are sturdy. I am always afraid of taking their BC with us and why show two documents when all you have to do is show one. The process was easy and we got them very quickly, within two weeks.
Just my opinion.

passports are sixty bucks if i remember correctly, and then you have to pay another ten or more for the passport pictures.
regardless of what you do, i would recommend scanning your important stuff like this, and then setting up an email account on yahoo so that you can send copies to your self. We went to China last year, and a friend of mine suggested that this would really ease my mind in case any of our important documents got lost or stolen. I scanned visas, birth certificates and passports, and can access them from anywhere!

Thanks everyone for being so helpful, I think I just might go ahead and get the passports. They can come in handy if and when I may need them. Thank you Mrs. Garciaparra...I will pass the hello on to Jeter :p .
