View Full Version : Preparing for a bad trip

We leave for Disney World in just 4 short days!

And from being on the boards today I have learned I will probably not have a good time. Because.....

1. It will be a cold 70 degrees
2. The parks are crawling with foreigners
3. I won't be able to eat at any counter service places. I will be too stressed about the proper way to go about things. Do I order the food first, or have someone grab a table first? I can't decide!
4. Someone may run me over with their ECV
5. I not only have to be on the lookout for bedbugs in my room, but snakes too!

Am I missing something?;)

But you know, somehow, even with all of this bad stuff that could happen to me, I am still super excited to be going to Disney World. Even if all of those things happen to me, I will still be smiling. Cause as the saying goes, a bad day at Disney is better than a bad day anywhere else! :cloud9:

Who else is excited to be going to Disney World and is not going to let all the bad things that could happen bring them down? Let's be happy people! We are going to Disney World!:dance3:

There is a chance that you will not get any towel animals.

I will rejoice with you! I can endure the stresses at home in daily life with comfort knowing that Disney World is not too far away! And NOTHING that happens there equals the stresses that happen in daily life, at least for me, so let the GOOD Times roll! :cloud9:

You could get approached by 2 total and complete strangers who ask you to follow them, make you watch a video, force you and your family to ride in a parade, and tell you that you are going to have to waste a night's money on a hotel ressie that you have because you won't be sleeping there for the night since you will be staying in some silly ol' suite inside a castle. :wizard:

Have a great trip!

You will be surrounded by people using last year's refillable mug. As others have said, if you'd prefer, I can go in your place. I won't even let the pool hoppers or the parents pushing 22-year olds in strollers bother me.

LOL! Maxiesmom. I hope you and your family have a great trip. It's gray and rainy in Orlando right now but I believe the weather is supposed to dry out again shortly and the weather is going to be wonderfully drier and cooler. Those of us who live here soooo look forward to this time of year when the humidity levels go down and it's cooler. It's still quite warm during the day and the sun can be especially hot so remember you'll probably still need sunglasses, hats, whatever suits you.

Have fun!

Don't forget:

your trip will be ruined by a lack of towel animals.

everyone at DW will conspire to deny you any of your room requests.

you won't fit into your hotel pool which is over run with pool hoppers.

smokers will completely surround you everywhere you go.

you will wait 2-3 hours for buses all of the time and there will never be a seat for you.

housekeeping wil purposely leave an old hair wrap on the floor so you can count how many days it stays there.

you won't be able to watch any parades because all of the good spots will be staked out and held 2-3 hours beofre the parade.

DW will make it rain just to ruin your trip.

:scared1: You have to do Do what it seems many other disers do to have "fun":

Stake out CS restaurants at the hotel to watch for someone using old mugs from last year. Keep careful count so you can rush to your laptop and report on it.

Stare at your hotel's buildings hoping to find someone smoking on their baclony so you can call a CM.

Ride the buses so you can have the fun of counting ho wmany people refuse to give up their seat to someone you think is more deserving of it.

Hang out at the front desk yellign at CMs and changing rooms 2-3 times until you have the perfect location and view.

Carefully write down and report on what others wear to Signature restaurants and tell in detail how it ruined your meal.

Follow and observe all stroller and ECV users to ensure they meet your opinion on whether or not they or their children qualify to use them according to your set of rules.

And don't forget the favorite and most fun activity of all. Carefully track each and every picky, minute, unimportant negaitve detail of your trip, so you can joyfully report it on the boards and discuss it to death!

Enjoy your trip!

Remember to make passing judgements of others, and then rudely deny their child a seat in front of you during the parade - even if it would not obscure your view - and make sure everyone in earshot knows that you were smart enough to wait at that spot for those 2-3 hours.

An absolutely make certain that if you see someone stop to take in the Magic you run smack into them and then complain that they shouldn't stop to look at anything. I mean, after all, this is a vacation and should be about going at break neck speed to beat everyone to the next ride. Who has time to take in the sites and sounds.

That's pretty funny...except it's ok to complain...isn't it? This board shouldn't be all about "we had a great trip" or "what are you wearing to MNSSHP"...I love reading about minor complaints and agreeing/disagreeing.

But what do I know...I'm going to Disneyland next and I hear their castle looks like Cinderella's doghouse and both parks fit into Epcot's spaceship earth.

Of course it is ok to complain. It just seemed that for some reason today that is all I was reading, complaints. I just felt the need to step back, and get myself some perspective. Even if I don't get the perfect room/get pushed/have to wait 40 minutes for a bus, in a few short days I will be at Disney with the ones I love. And that is pretty much as good as it gets.:thumbsup2

You may be forced to drink absolutely FREE soda at some place in Epcot ... but one of them will be called "Beverly" ...

oh ... but before you get to that place to drink free soda, someone will stop abruptly in front of you as they fumble with a map. (make sure you bump into them!) ... I only wish it was ME you were bumping into. :sad2:

Why on Earth would you be excited, haven't you heard it is going to be terrible?

I don't want you to get the wrong idea, you are going to be miserable. Did you know that Disney is outside, I was told there was a gigantic bubble dome encompasing all of Disney property, but I found out recently this is not true. And to top it off, I have nothing to celebrate.

The Love Bugs might make a surprise raid on Walt Disney World while you are there.:scared1: And someone might trick you into drinking some of that awful water they have down there in Florida.

LOL, the water in Florida is disgusting! I refuse to drink it to the absolute extreme. We're talking, I'd pay $50 for a bottle of Fiji or Smartwater before I'd drink water from FL. Nothing against the state, I just kind of throw up in my mouth a little bit when I think of the first and last time I ever drank it.

But I don't really care about love bugs. It sucks that they're there, but I'm not about to cry about that.

However, it's a good thing I don't have to pay $50 for Smartwater, $3 is great. As long as there's another option, or I can bring water with me in my checked bags on the airplane, I'll be OK.

LOL .......... :rotfl: ..... Great post!!! :thumbsup2 I'll be going to the world in mid November (3 weeks) and am very excited as well. I'm staying off site and we all know bugs and snakes only go on Disney property, not the off site condos. I'm getting a table BEFORE my food, I'll wear my winter coat, I'll put on bug spray and i won't let people cut in front of me during parades ... it's all good! :woohoo:

Truly ... on this forum we do tend to argue and complain about the most unimportant things. And i admit being right in there swinging with the rest of them! BUTTTTTTTTTTTT Bottom line is a day at Disney is a "DAY AT DISNEY!!!" :yay: We wouldn't be forum members if we didn't love going and I think all the complaining is really just something to discuss 99% of the times. Even when we're argueing out view points about something Disney we're still THINKING about being at Disney.

Soooooooooo wear your winter clothes, get your bug spray, the snakes don't bite hard so don't worry about them, don't leave loose change in your room or you'll be robbed, don't expect a quiet room or thoughtful people, expect people to cut you off, expect to not get a table at the counter service restaurants, don't expect a seat on Disney busses and go there and have the best time of your life!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: :yay:

TO FUNNY

We will be there (arriving xmas day) all I have read about it what a horrible time to go it is (CROWDS) etc, etc, etc, I got a little sad that were going, then I did a reality check and said WE ARE GOING TO DW. I am sure that the crowds will just ruin our trip and we won't be happy that we are in DW with all the decorations and the magic, I am sure we won't have any fun at all. I would rather not have any fun at all in Disney then be home in the SNOW.

This is a great thread. I first found this forum last February after I booked my trip for this past May and I was really taken aback by the negativity and the fact that so many seem to complain about the most trivial things. I had a wonderful, magical trip and I'm going back again next year.

It's sad that some people will go out of their way to find something negative just to complain about it, but then there are people who have actually complained after winning a lottery that taxes were taken out! Like they still don't have more money than they started with!

Anyway, I love this forum and I've learned you have to take the negatives with a grain of salt. Like someone said, Don't sweat the small stuff!!!

Thanks for starting this thread. I have also been reading the negative posts lately and wondering what the heck is going on. Well I'll be there soon with my friend who is going for her first time and we are so excited. I have managed to make it to Disney once a year for the last 8 years and each time it is "magic". Nothing in this life is perfect but I know when I step into the parks all the adult resposibilities and drama just kind of slips away and I am back enjoying being a kid (at 56) again! princess:

This thread is awesome. I love everyone's sarcastic point of view:) We leave for our first vacation to Disney in 15 YEARS in 2 weeks and I'm so excited I am driving friends and family insane. They think I'm crazy for already (already...I leave in 2 weeks!!!!!) wanting to borrow their luggage. I want to be pack my rain ponchos, shoe holders, glow sticks RIGHT NOW.

I guess some people aren't prepared to wait in line, hear kids cry (hello even my 11 year old cries sometimes!) and eat junk food. One of my favorite things to do on vacation is eat food SOMEONE ELSE COOKED:cloud9:

My daughter Emily is watching me post right now. She wanted to add this:wizard: She's one of the main reasons we're going back to Disney because it's her 8th birthday while we're there and like she told her Daddy "Daddy, Disney World has magic" pixiedust: pixiedust:

Wanted to add.....

I hope you dont mind overpriced food ..... the inability to eat white bread and being forced to eat wheat buns only and filet mignon- forget it ;)

I know you will also be suprised to find out that having a fast pass doesnt mean you will never have to wait.... I know that you thought they were holding a train in Space Mountain just for you....

And last but not least... I hope you have been working out at the gym for that 440 meter SPRINT to be the first in line or at the fast pass machine for Toy Story Mania..... you may have been needing to work out with weights as well to muscle your way through the line.... OR.... Just use the stroller to plow a path :lmao:

OP- hope you have a wonderful time and we will be thinking of you---- we all wish we were going ---- no need for you to be so miserable all alone---- Dont you know???? Misery LOVES company! ;)

We are staying at the All Star Sports, how did you guess? I will admit to being somewhat of a hooligan at times, but no smoking at all. And very little hard drinking. Gosh, I hope I fit in. Otherwise I have an old Dixie Landings mug I can pack. Do you think that will work?

If i start a thread and the title is "I had fun" it would get 5 replies, which is fine. If i start a thread and the title is "Darn EVC" i could leave it blank and get 350 replies in 20 minutes.

I will be in Disney from Nov 12th-18th, just look for me on the park bench changing my kids diaper!

Ohh I plan on breaking all the "rules".
My stroller will become a battle ram
We are oing to be forcing our way to the front of the line to see the parades
I'm saving not one but two tables even though we won't be eating anything
I'm only going to tip 13% on buffets
I'm going to leave dirty dipers after I change my 3 year old on ride seats
i'm going to let my kids play hide and seek in the stores since they are so cute
I'm going to take other people's kids pictures because they are cute( might photo shop them to make me feel better)
I'm going to take 6 seats on the bus so no one else can sit

I just hope no one else follows suit or I'll have to go home early!!!:rotfl:

No smoking - very little drinking and a Dixie Landings cup - good lord you so won't fit in at the Values. I guess you'll have a bad time after all. Can you at least rent a EVC and not practice driving it before you hit the parks?

Nobody will give you their seat on the bus, either.

OK, this is officially my favorite thread ever. I liked the weird "towel animal" pictures and I loved the mama snake story, but this one has them all beat.
Thanks!

WHAT OMG LOL!!!!

Have fun and don't worry about others! I have never been rin over by an EVC, had a snake or bedbugs in a room and please there is nothing wrong with grabbing a table before you order your food at a CS.70 is nice weather!

Have fun and don't sweat the stupid stuff.

Demand that everyone you see who even pointed a camera in your direction immediately rip their film out or delete the image. Perverts are everywhere in Disney World!!!

I am laughing so much picturing actually doing this!:rotfl2:

we actually ate at Columbia Harbor and Pinnocios counter service at MK for the first time!! EAt upstairs at CH - no lines, lots of quiet areas!! Delish food (if you like fried fish, or chicken nuggets, they have a salad - but we really liked the "apple pie" only it looked more like apple dumplings to us!! Pinichios is over by Small World, that place was crowded, but again, we were in the right place at the right time- we had the best salads there!! and Chocolate cheesecake!)

sorry, cant help you about the lack of towel animals, we stayed at Pop, and not only was there one in the window when we got there, but somehow that mousekeeper knew we were going to Disney animation and sketch Eeyore, because she left us an eeyore!!

Don't forget you will overhear a parent yelling at their young child " I paid a lot of money for this vacation and you better have a good time." :confused3

Have fun.:thumbsup2 I'll be there for Thanksgiving to suffer through all of that misery.:goodvibes

Some good news for you.....

if it's 70 degrees you should have no trouble finding the cast members in the parking lots because they will be the ones in yellow ski parkas!

Wow your setting yourself up for failure if you truly are worried about all these things. Although i suspect that your really just being facetious towards all the negative posts that come up.

Cuz i mean to start with 1. 70 degrees cold? That sounds like perfect weather for walking all day. Not too hot and not too cold.

2. Too many foreigners. I enjoy my multcultural city way too much for that comment not to bother me...

3. If what others think really does bother you then get your food then a table. Because nobody will think that is incorect manners wheras there are some who do believe it is inapropriate to grab a seat and then get your food second (whether it is inaporpriate or not does not seem to matter to you, only that what others think is what matters)

4. Somebody will run you over with their ECV. Get insurance now... Just kidding :)

5. Ya those bedbugs are impossible to get rid of. But really snakes? Havn't heard that one.

Again i'm sure your just being facetious. Your going to have a good time and your right the negative posts on the boards probably do scare alot of the disney newbies out there. But those negative posts spark so much more heated debate and are just so darn interesting :).

Oh Darn...........That would be bad;)

Have a fantastic trip!!!:goodvibes

And one more thing - don't eat at Ohana's - they have awful potatoes - or is it noodles - or maybe a potato noodle dish - doesn't matter it'll be terrible and the crowds - my god the crowds if there is one person in line or 101 - it will be very very crowded and hot with tour groups and kids crying......and Bomas - don't even bother checking the menu first - the food is terrible - or is that Tony's - maybe don't bother eating at all because it will be really really hot or really really rainy and the buses are so bad that you won't make it to any ADR at all even if you start out two days before - just order from Garden Grocer or take a cab to Walmart - wait that will cost $50 or $20 or maybe $32 dollars each way. I just don't know...............you should maybe stay home and send someone else to scout things out first - I'll take the hit for you if you want

I am allowed out once a yr and this is it, going to make the most of it  Plus we do have something to celebrate, DH just got home from deployment :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Since this is more of a parody thread than a trip planning thread, the moderators have decided to move this over to the theme parks community board.

Yep, was just going to mention that Tony's is NOT authentic Italian food!!! :scared1: Why shouldn't we expect authentic in Florida?! We ALL know that we go to Disney for the best food we've ever eaten at such cheap prices.

:lmao: ;) If you want, I'll go with all the volunteers and I'll eat the food. :thumbsup2

So I guess we can expect a "complaint-free" trip report when you return???:thumbsup2

...and then there's that darn free Magical Express bus!! Be aware you may have to wait 15 minutes for it, suffer through that pesky video of what to expect in the parks, and hear all those little kids calling out, "There's Donald - there's Goofy!"

And guaranteed if you spend 23.5 hours in your room, the minute you pop your head out to see if the sun is shining (it either will be or won't be), someone will walk by and announced that they got their vacation package at less than half the price you did, with free room upgrades and the deluxe dining plan, got dreamed 27 times in the first 9 minutes they were at DWD and have mousekeeping next door in an adjoining room ready to pop in on demand and create towel animals using complex origami proceedures
