Good morning ohmom and everyone :)
It's cold and rainy here in Indiana, a good day to stay inside. I'm only down .4 for the week but that's ok and I expect a much bigger loss to report next week. I lost over 3 pounds last week and it seems like that's how its been going for me....a decent loss and then a maintain or something like .4. I really can't complain though because I splurged and had pizza this week and told myself when I got on the scale this morning that if it wasn't for the pizza earlier in the week I probably would have had a bigger loss.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Well, I'm up 1.4 pounds this week. I really went off-program last weekend, but have regained control. The hardest thing I've done all week was make myself go to my WW meeting -- but I did, wiped the slate clean, and am now back on track.
This is going to be a tough weekend, food-wise. We are having a birthday party for DSs, complete with two cakes, on Saturday, followed by trunk-or-treat at the church (supper is served as well as the candy!). Then DS#1 actual birthday is Sunday, and he's asked for "tailgating food" while watching the Giants in the afternoon. DS#2's birthday is the following weekend, so more cake and eating out.
Off to Jazzercise class!

Hey Sarah - I found your 4 pounds (plus a little more!). I am up 4.8 pounds in the last 2 weeks. The trip to WDW got me off track. I didn't worry about my eating while I was at WDW and gained some. But I've been home now for almost a week and have yet to get back on track. Been hitting that Halloween candy we got at MNSSHP! Time to get rid of the remaining candy and those extra pounds!

I know - I know. I had two birthdays last weekend. But I ate cake and stuff at both, which I will never stop doing, and I'm down so it can be done for sure. Have a good week.

Aaaaah MNSSHP!!!! Oh gosh I could watch those boys with the shovels hour after hour after hour. To call a Disney parade sexy - is that taboo. Forget it - that's one sexy parade. Love it!
Hang in there. Here's to a new week!!
I lost 1.5 pounds this week!:thumbsup2
Good luck to everyone!:cheer2:
Yeah Melisa!!! My goodness you're on a roll girl!!! Good for you.
I lost 1.2 this week. Which puts me as a maintain for two weeks (I did put in between those two bizarre numbers that came up last Friday). So very happy with that. And on to this week!
All the best to everyone,

Well I lost this week. I seem to lose and gain the same 5 pounds over & over this year. I have not had a lasting change since December. But I won't let it keep me down. I will keep working at it. I will never go back to the 243 pound person I was 2 years ago.

Question of the Day - Friday
What time of the day fo you find it most difficult to stay on track? How do you overcome this?
Evenings -- for sure -- esp. after I get DSs to bed. I do my best to account for this in my eating for the rest of the day. I also find that if I keep my hands busy (scrapbooking, organizing a drawer, typing on the computer, etc.), I'm not prone to eating as much as when I'm simply parked in front of the TV.

Question of the Day - Friday
What time of the day fo you find it most difficult to stay on track? How do you overcome this?
Typically night time, but anytime I have too much time on my hands isn't a good time either. I literally have to have tell myself not to eat whatever it is I think I need, or I'll drink water, find something to do, or if it's close to bedtime I'll take my book and go to bed. I know I won't eat in bed, so that's a safe place. :thumbsup2 :lmao:
As for my weigh in this week, I'm a maintainer. Had a tough weekend exercise wise. My back was giving me fits, so I had 4 days of no exercise this week. I also seem to be losing and gaining the same 3 pounds lately. Grrrrr.....time to go Jillian on myself. :lmao:

Question of the Day - Friday
What time of the day fo you find it most difficult to stay on track? How do you overcome this?
I, too, find it most difficult at night. It is nice to sit and relax in front of the TV and grab a snack. The snacks that sound the greatest to me are not the healthiest for me. A handful of cookies can put me 100's of calories over limits I have set for myself, not to mention a 1/2 can of nuts, chips with guacamole. But I overcome. I remind myself of what I want to look like, what I looked like before, where I want to me in a few months. That's enough for me to put myself in check.
As to the challenge, I know I don't post much. I've never been much of a chatter. I read the posts and can appreciate the efforts that everyone puts forth.
It is being part of a team, even though I am mostly silent, that keeps me going. My losses haven't been the greatest. I've lost 7.6 lbs since we all started this some 6 weeks ago, a little over 14 lbs since I decided to lose weight, another 10 lbs to go. I feel that my weight loss is steady. And I don't know if I could not have done it without being a part of a team, wanting my weight loss to count for something. Being on the Red Team is motivational for me.
So Red Team, let's remember why ...whether that be for you, your partner, your children/grandchildren...why you are doing this? Get motivated!!!
Good Luck this week and Let us all be big losers!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Good morning! I just wanted to share with you one of the things I did to make someones Halloween special for the COW. I bought a package of Halloween cards and sent them to people who I haven't been in touch with for awhile, or people that I knew could use a pick me up. Who doesn't enjoy getting a surprise card in the mail? Last night I had an e-mail from one of the card recipients saying it was a nice surprise to get a card in the mail. I sent some cards out to some older folks who for the most part are alone alot of the time. Some of them went out to people I think about alot and just don't seem to find the time to call. I enjoyed writing the notes in them and it felt good just to make the connection with them again. Sometimes it truly is the little things in life that can brighten your day.
Whose day can YOU brighten today? :flower3:

I will never go back to the 243 pound person I was 2 years ago.I know exactly what you mean. I had lost 40, and like you spend about a year trying to lose more, to no avail, but had kept it off, til this summer, when I gained back 17. I've lost 8 of that, and am back under 200, and determined not to go over 200 again. It is a lifestyle change, and I've been at it this time for over 3 years, but I feel so much better than I did when I started. I'd love to be 10-12, but a 14-16 right now feels so much better than the 18-20 I was when I started. I wasn't surprised to have such a big gain this summer, I had stopped exercising almost completely, and was not watching what I ate at all, and fell right back into those old bad habits. Not again. You are doing awesome to keep the weight off. It's so much tougher the closer you are to goal.
Question of the Day - Friday
What time of the day fo you find it most difficult to stay on track? How do you overcome this? For me, it's in the evening, watching tv after my son is in bed. I try to make a cup of tea or ff cocoa instead of eating, and if I journal what I am going to eat, and really mesure it out before I eat it, I do better. Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels, and I try to remember that.

Well, Lisa, I must us the only word this week. I ONLY gained 0.8 this week, after a totally out of control weekend. I got back on track as of tuesday, and am very happy I didn't gain more. I stopped journalling, and boy does that make me spiral downward. Plus I have been exercising pretty much every morning, and that makes such a difference.
Congratulations to all of our losers!! :cheer2: We are going to be the biggest losers one week, I know it. Hang in there if you maintained or gained. Slow and steady, we're making the healthy changes to our life that will make a big difference over the long haul.
Have a great, losing weekend everyone!

Another vote for evenings as the most difficult time. I try to keep my hands busy with sewing, needlework, etc.
Another thing that works well for me is to occasionally save my workout till the evening. I can't eat while on the treadmill. Of course, the danger is that I'll just decide to skip the workout.
I'm down one. Better than nothing.
How did it get to be week 7 already?????

Dinner seems to be the hardest time of the day for me. My kids do not like my diet food so I have to make different things for them. I haven't cheated at all but it is tough.
I was downtown Chicago yesterday at the Hersey store. They had these cupcakes that looked so good. I wanted one so bad I managed to get the kids hot chocolate from there and didn't have any. I just needed to smell it...I know sounds weird but sometimes smelling the food helps

First of all congratulations on all your success. You're almost half way there, eh? Wonderful.
Ignore me if you are on a program that you are very happy with. But have you considered just eating whatever you make the kids - just in smaller portions than the past? Or eating the cupcake - drinking the hot chocolate etc and going from there.
(I do realize it might be about eating healthy - but then again healthy can come with some goodies too)
I know I can be an absolute sh!t with all of this. But I really really feel that if you can't keep what you're doing now for the rest of life - well maintaining a loss might be very difficult. Not impossible - many do it of course. But white knuckling a bit.
Please don't think I'm not respecting your accomplishments. They're huge. I just feel very strongly about all this.

How do I overcome this? Well, I'm not sure I do. But I take it one day at a time for sure.
Also, I've found that a lot of my need to eat more food than satisfies my natural hunger is about being tired. So if I can take a nap - I will - if I can.
Also, sometimes it's about emotions I didn't realize were there. Or don't want to look at. That's really one day at a time as well.

i completely agree with this. with a lifestyle change, you do not want to cut out all treats or you will end up crashing and binging. there is nothing wrong with having one cupcake once in awhile. all foods can fit into your life, in moderation.

My problem is I will eat a sweet every now and then, when I still have weight loss I think I can do it more often. The next thing I know I am off my diet and back up to my high weight.
I am doing low Carb. I can have sugar free jello, sugar free Popsicles and high coco dark chocolate (which I ate before my diet) I sneak a small bite of cake or cookie every now and then but just a bite.
Low carb works for me. I can eat and not feel hungry all the time. When I did low calorie or low fat I felt hungry all the time and one time I passed out from not enough food.
It is tough but I really need to lose weight. Not only for me but for my kids.

I know exactly what you mean by this, but agree with lisa and DisneyChrista that I can't cut sweets and goodies out of my life completely and be able to maintain. Journalling all I eat has been the only thing to keep me from spiralling totally out of control. Even if I start to eat junk, and binge, if I continue to write it all down, even if I'm way over my ww points, I am far better off than just forgetting all about journalling, and going completely off.
I had a family party last night, and after a bad weekend last weekend, I kept my food tracker in my pocket, and wrote everything down before I ate it. There was some awesome looking high cal, hi fat appetizers, and when they came out, I went into the other room, and waited for the pizza which I had planned on eating 3 slices which I did and enjoyed every one. I did have 2 cookies after but counted the points, and stayed away from the alcohol. I am determined to stick within my points this week. Got out for an hour walk this morning while my son was at CCD which felt great. I want to lose some weight for this awesome Red team!!
Have a losing monday Red team!!

Hey Disneynut,

I just have a theory - about exercise and food. Both. I truly believe that the body gets totally used to an exercise routine and food amounts/types. And when we switch things up the body goes, "WTH!!!" - very strongly.
I just am constantly asking myself - can you keep this up Lisa? Everything? And often I will eat something or lay off some exercise - on purpose because there are times I answer the question with a "nope".
Example for the body getting used to things. A couple of weeks ago I put in a ballet/stretching/pilates routine. It replaced some cardio (not all). But in high rotation. And I truly thing my body went WTH? What is going on? And instantly reacted.
Slim people don't have the swings that we do with the scale. Not such huge swings in a short time. And I truly believe that's because they don't have such intense changes in their days/weeks/months - because they rarely have times when they aren't doing well with holding anything like us. Cause they aren't holding so to speak. I know it's not as simple as that. But a lot of slim people, genetically determined and not, eat what they like when they're hungry and stop when they're not (oh the difficulty of that:lmao: ).
And if they looked back at day one and day seventy two they would look pretty similar. (And of course there are those smaller % of slim people that are very disciplined with their choices - will never be me - don't want it)
Now - my weight has been going down at a very slow rate. It has taken me years. So I"m not the model for all or many for that matter. :rotfl: But I'm determined to eat what I absolutely love and at the same time keep it up always. What's today has to be five years from now - for me.
Exercise is not too difficult for me. I actually like it. And is more of a mental tooll for me. To keep my brain healthy. (And of course vanity sneaks in too:lmao: )
No, no one asked for my novel. :lmao: ;)

Lisa - You have some very good points. There have been studies about our bodies getting used to exercise -- and you can tell for yourself by using a HR monitor for a period of time. I teach Jazzercise, and we are told to change our sets regularly. Sometimes you can do the same routine but use a tube rather than weights, do it standing rather than on the floor, etc. -- and your body (and mind!) will stay surprised. If you look at the training schedule of professional athletes, they don't do the same moves the same way each day.
In addition to Jazzercise (which I love, love, love), I also run at least once a week and bike at home. I also just started a weekly stretch class through Jazzercise and that's helped my flexibility.

I just wanted you to know I am not upset or feel I need to defend myself and my diet, I just know myself. This is the what feels like 100th diet I have been on. I start strong and then I start cheating. I have a goal and I am really trying to stick with it. I have to look at this as a mind game. I have to stay strong, I have to stay focused.
I already know the next 2 months are going to be tough. Between the pumpkin pie, Christmas Cookies and my birthday cake I am going to have to stay strong.
I am done now.
Thank you all again for your support. Good luck on your programs.

Two Questions for Today (missed yesterday)
1.) What is your game plan for handling temptation over Halloween?
Plan? We're supposed to have a plan? :) I guess my plan is to not each so much candy. Very complicated, huh? I'm trying to be choosy about everything I eat - making sure it's what I want before I eat it, so I'll try to do the same with the candy. (and - I got to buy the candy this year, so I didn't buy much that I like!)
2.) What Disney character best embodies your new healthy lifestyle?
Hmmm.. I always struggle with these. Am I like a Disney character? I think I'm going to have to go with Belle. She's stuck in that mansion against her will, resolves to hate it and have a bad time and just endure it because she has to. THen, when she's not paying attention, she discovers that it's not so horrible and she's actually been enjoying it. I think that's me on this journey this time. I resolved that I would lose weight, one way or another. I might be miserable, but I'll be THIN and miserable. Well, I woke up one day and realized I'm NOT miserable. I like the way I eat - I feel better, my skin is clearer and of course my clothes fit better. I like exercising - it's great stress relief and even I can't argue that I'm getting nice legs. It's kinda cool! I even had a "I'll let you go" moment like Belle when she got to leave the castle and realized she wanted to be there after all. I ate at the Grand Floridian cafe. It was awesome, as expected. But I couldn't choose. There was a yummy sounding steak or a salad and an amazing asiago cheese alfredo on the menu. The new me said I should have the steak - but I ALWAYS want the alfredo, so I went with that. One bite told me it was the wrong choice. It tasted as amazing as I expected, but it was way too rich for me. I realized that I really do enjoy the new lifestyle and I can live quite happily with it. That probably made no sense, but I feel better sharing it!. So - I'll definately go with Belle - for the moment!

Also, I've found that a lot of my need to eat more food than satisfies my natural hunger is about being tired. So if I can take a nap - I will - if I can.
Also, sometimes it's about emotions I didn't realize were there. Or don't want to look at. That's really one day at a time as well.
I'm just like this. My natural clock is not what the normal business world is, and my DH and best friend are true morning people. Not me - if I could start work everyday at 10PM, I would. So I find I eat in the afternoon to stay awake.
I'm a big emotional eater too. I've cured a lot of that, actually. In the process I found I've improved my relationship with DH. I try to attack the source of the emotional need rather than bury it in brownies. It's really improved our communication. I still journal though, too. That will get me through when nothing else will. I can't convince myself that those last 10 snicker bars didn't count if they are written down.

Ugh, sorry I've been MIA I am still sick! I wish I was feeling better. I am going to start back at the gym next week either way. If I'm still sick then I'll take it slow.
How do you stay on track when you're sick? Do you still exercise?
I've probably gained again, I just haven't looked at the scale in awhile. I know I weigh more now then when I started this. Its really frustrating but I have not been trying at all for the last 2 weeks. I really need to get my butt in gear. My mom just told me yesterday that is she is getting remarried in August and I'm in the wedding. It would be awesome to be at least 20lbs lighter but ideally 50lbs lighter.
Night is the worst time of day for me, after my husband goes to work. I'm not too bad with LATE snacking its more that time between the kid's getting home from school and dinner.
As for Halloween, not sure how I'll handle it but we didn't go to Disney this year so we don't have the MNSSHP candy and we don't do the door to door thing. We just go to family, so they probably won't have a lot of Candy.
As for the Disney Character thing...I'm going to go with Belle too. I'm a book worm, I'd rather read a good book then exercise. Got to change that. I want to Be Mulan...lol

Yeah. That's like the opposite. That bodies do need switch up. I try to limit that problem too by going on weekly switches. Actually it's okay for me in that my problem with exercise is that I get attached to too many programs. Believe it or not! :lmao: And I have an all or nothing personality - unfortunately. That's how I sabotage.
And that's what I think about some slim people too. They can switch up naturally with food and exercise and it evens out more. Where as being overweight when we crash - well some of us really crash. And I don't and won't have that anymore in my life. I decided that years ago. Hence the slow slow weight loss. ;)
I just went back to a stretching routine. It's called Classical Stretch - do you know it? She's a tad annoying but her program is a good break from intervals and intense cardio.

And I really want you to know that my latest blabbering had nothing to do with you at all. Really. Nothing. It was me squawking in general. I want to be clear on that. And of course there was never a need to defend yourself or your program to me. At all. Ever.
Actually, I was and am wowed by your complete lack of being openly offended by my first post (even though I tried to be respectful and sensitive). Really. I was wowed. I'm overly sensitive. So I'm a tad envious of your way. ;)
I'm at an age - and point in my life - where I no longer hesistate to post my thoughts. Which is wonderful and new and can be annoying for others too. ;) But a nice change for me.
And in essence, it's absolutely none of my business how anyone loses weight. And I know that completely. We are all different and know ourselves.

My problem is I will eat a sweet every now and then, when I still have weight loss I think I can do it more often. The next thing I know I am off my diet and back up to my high weight.
Oh I can so relate. So much.
It's changed for me in the last year. It's come with, and this is just me, not being so hard on myself. Because that was my thing. I would be so hard on my myself and in would come Ms. all or nothing personality. Before I used to do it and think awful of myself. Now I'm just it is what it is and I try to move on.
BL, and the WiSHboards in general, really has helped me there. There seems to be a lot of people here that realize that this is one day at a time. And not so hard of themselves. And that has helped me in my path. I've learned - very slowly. :lmao:
Also, I've also been taking care of some past crap. And that work has naturally stopped overeating and cravings.

How do you stay on track when you're sick? Do you still exercise?
This is an ongoing problem for me too. Because some say the body can't do two things. Repair from sick and repair from exercise. But exercise is critical to me for weight loss and mentally as well. And I too get so frustrated when I'm sick.
I'm not so focused on food as I am exercise getting where I am. So it really gets to me.
I"ve expermented with it Charity. Honestly, I've done no exercise and exercised through and it doesn't seem to effect the length or duration of being sick for me.
However, I take out all heavy intervals. And try to get lots of sleep. And try to choose softer exercise.
Try. But I'm very stubborn.
I've also heard sickness below you need to take it really easy. But above like a cold can take more.

I'm a big emotional eater too. I've cured a lot of that, actually. .
Yeah :thumbsup2 Good for you....and isn't that a celebration. Really. I've worked very hard on some prior crap in my life and it naturally just disappated that need to overeat with emotions. Thank God. Amen.

Two Questions for Today (missed yesterday)
1.) What is your game plan for handling temptation over Halloween?
2.) What Disney character best embodies your new healthy lifestyle?
1. I just intend to really think about any candies that I eat. I'll ask myself if I really want to spend an extran "x" amount of time on the treadmill working that candy off when a "no" would work alot easier.
2. I really don't know. There was another question awhile back relating to a Disney character and I wasn't able to answer that one either. Maybe I'm not good at seeing myself in someone/something else?? :confused3

How's everyone doing? It's been pretty quiet here lately. We have today and tomorrow before weigh in...what are you going to do to stay on track or get back on track?
I have to tell you that 2 days ago I really liked what the Wii Fit told me I weighed. It was 4 pounds less than what my scale says. :lovestruc That really put a spring in my step for the day. Last night I got back on and I was 1.8 pounds up from the day before. My love affair with the Wii Fit scale was DONE. :lmao: I found it funny that it pointed out that I weighed in early in the AM the day before and it was after 6pm at that weigh in and how weight fluctuates up to 2 pounds a day. *almost* like it was consoling me or something. :lmao: When I finished with that, I watched BL for the first time in weeks and that helped me say no to some snacking I would have given in to.
I know there are a few people who are doing the BL challenge who are also a part of the October exercise challenge. How's everyone doing on that? If you haven't signed up for one of those challenges, give it a try. It's really helped me stay focused on exercising. I will have my minutes completed tomorrow. It's been a rough month, and I've had to really bump up my minutes per day since I missed so many earlier this month, but I find by setting those goals for myself really works. I get frustrated with myself if I don't make them. Now I just need to buckle down on making some food goals and stick with it. :wizard:
Have a great Wednesday everyone! GO RED TEAM!!!!!!!!!!

1) Well I'm no help because I plan to eat candy and candy and candy...:rotfl: But I'm being really focused with exercise this week. I just see it as part of life and I'm not going to avoid it at all.
2) Hmmmm. Well not Ursula. :lmao: :lovestruc Although I love her. She's great in a parade. Actuallly I love all them in the Halloween parade.

Halloween-- we're going to the gym. I'm not handing out candy (so there won't be any in the house.) DD will be out of town, so won't have any either. She needs to challenge with me....but she's been doing a great job by just cutting back a little (go to McD's, but get a hamburger and diet coke instead of a quarter pounder meal). At 17 that works......
Disney Character--I'm Belle in the blue dress. Nose in a book, all about facts, but one strong chick.
And now.....the news! I've been not whining, but I've been pretty consistently dropping one pound a week and feeling that I've been better behaved than that. Until today, it was week 7 and I'd lost 6 pounds. Ta da....today the scale says that I've dropped 3 this week! I'm happy! And that despite a crazy week that didn't get me to the gym the way I'd like to!

Question of the Day - Thursday:
What are some creative ways to get more movement into your day?

Character costume--I was planning to wear DD's Snow White costume to a party a few nights ago (Princess and Super Hero Party). I was hotly informed that there was NO WAY I would be going out in public in that outfit. She quickly grabbed a green t-shirt and a marker and "made" me a Joker costume--black pants and a mask completed the deal. I still think Snow would have been better and she wasn't wearing it.
Creative movement...the usual--park far away and walk. Put away laundry (up and down stairs) during commercials. Hide the remote control. (My kids do this one for me.....) Drop off kid at piano lesson and walk while she has her class.
