I have been wondering this for awhile... I was wondering if Disney offers a magazine publication for adults?

There is a parenting magazine by Disney called Wonder. I really enjoy it, but I am not sure that is what you really meant.

There used to be a wonderful Disney magazine for adults, came out four times a year, and had fastastic backstage stories, articles about imagineers and imagineering of attractions, Disney trivia, and so much more. Unfortunately it is now defunct for at least four years, and sorely missed at our house. :sad1:

You do get some similar info in the Mickey Monitor (annual passholder publication) and in the DVC newsletters, but the articles aren't as in-depth, and really a shadow of the Disney Magazine.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "for adults." There is Orlando Attractions Magazine, started by Ricky Brigante of the Inside the Magic podcast. As you might expect, it covers attractions in the Orlando area, including lots of Disney coverage. It is pretty specifically about attractions as opposed to Disney in general. Lou Mongello, of the WDW Radio Show podcast and author of two Walt Disney World Trivia books, is just about to start his own magazine called Celebrations. It will be Disney specific, with an emphasis on the parks, but is supposed to cover Disney in a broader sense as well. This one is taking subscriptions now (at a reduced rate for the time being) and they expect to publish the first issue in September.

So, those are the ones I know. They aren't by Disney, but they are about it, to one degree or another. I'm tempted by the first, but I definitely plan to subscribe to the second. And I have no connection to anyone producing either magazine, beyond the fact that I listen to both podcasts.

I have kind of reached that point.

If someone wants my money from now on they have to find a new method to get it.

This week I tried to pay a fellow DISer $10.60 using a credit card with a $30,000 limit and practically nothing on it. Paypals response "I am over my spending limit" WITH WHO???? They will "allow" me to spend money if I verify my card OR link to my bank account. (At last check it was still warm in "you know where" so PayPal is NOT getting access to my bank accounts!) So I am MAILING a check LOL!

As excited as I would be for a magazine of the sort, am I the only one that is kind of skeptical if this is real or just a scam? The reasons I'm skeptical is because I've never heard of this company, and the only payment choice is PayPal, and it's not officially affiliated with Disney. I think I'll wait it out to hear input once the magazine is actually out before I buy in. :confused3

Hi J! :wave2: I was pretty excited at first, since DH has been reading three year old Disney Magazines. I'm no expert on what is legit or not, so I was going to let him decide for himself. But hearing it only accepts paypal has stopped me in my tracks. Why make it so hard to get a subscription?

I don't know any of these people personally, but I'm very confident that Lou Mongello isn't running a scam -- and most of the others listed are frequent guests on his show.

You can visit Lou's site at http://www.disneyworldtrivia.com/, and you can find his podcast from there if you're interested. There are several good Disney-related podcasts out there, but Lou's is the best, in my opinion. His love for the parks is obvious and worn on his sleeve.

Personally, I'm glad this is an independent publication and not published by Disney. As good as the official Disney Magazine could sometimes be, it was often too centered on whatever Disney wanted to promote at a given time than on what most interested the writers and readers. This new magazine won't be beholden to such constraints.

I would echo the points made in the post from Experiment 626. A magazine not sanctioned by Disney will be a better read for hard-core Disneyphiles like many of us here. There have been some terrific publications over the years that did fantastic work on the Disney parks the likes of which you'd never see in an official Disney publication. :earsboy:

Renysmom
08-30-2008, 09:36 PM
Lou is 100% legit and I promise you if he is involved it will be quality... I don't know Lou personally but I do know his work with the books and his podcast as well as the $1000's of dollars he raises to send kids with terminal illnesses to WDW..

For more info, about 3 weeks ago he talked about the magazine and how they are putting it together on his podcast. I ordered then without hesitation and can't wait to get the first copy.

In the world of Disney he is highly respected and often interviews the bigwigs of Disney on his show so they trust him as well...

In Lou's real life he is a very successful lawyer in NJ, one who will give his shirt off his back so anyone who may be worried about this being a scam it is no scam!!

mickeysgirl17
08-31-2008, 07:56 AM

Oh man! Now I have three Disney magazines in my regular mail! :cool1:

http://www.talesfromthelaughingplace.com/www.talesfromthelaughingplace.com/Home.html

I hadn't heard of this third one! I just got (finally) the fifth issue of Attractions magazine and it is definitely the strongest one since they started. However Tales is still my favourite - I just ordered all of the back issues which I got on Saturday and I didn't move from my armchair for nearly 5 hours. Just an incredible resource about the creation of Disney attractions.

And I have to applaud Tales' UK shipping! It took only 5 days to get to me!

The website is registered to http://www.tgfdesign.com/ out of Malvern, PA.

"tgfDesign is a full service design studio offering imaginative solutions for all of your communication needs.

tgfDesign was founded in 1992, offering a unique blend of award winning graphic design and illustration. We have produced a wide variety of materials for various clients including brochures, annual reports, corporate identity packages, logos, brand building programs, packaging, ads, catalogs, newsletters, posters, trade show graphics and other collateral materials. We have also produced various web sites, interactive presentations, animations and Flash movies. "

It seems to me that 6 Issues for $24.99 = $4.17 an issue is a little steep. I guess I will wait to see what the reviews are like. (college student finances here).

In addition, you do have some amount of buyer's protection. This isn't always affective, but I have had good luck with it about 80% of the time, over the years.

:confused3

It's Lou so no worries :thumbsup2

I couldn't find any info on Lou Mongello's website. If he was publishing, wouldn't there be something on his website?:confused3

Actually, I have had very good experiences with Paypal. On 3 separate occassions (over a 5 year period) I had purchased items through ebay which I never received. In all three instances I had paid using Paypal and Paypal refunded the money. And I am not taking about only small amounts. One of the transactions was for more than $500 dollars.

Hi Sarah!
We're all working very hard getting that first issue out, right now we are
still aiming for the end of September (though at this point it's more likely
that it slip into October a bit...just remember, good things come to those
who wait!! It looks like we're in good company though...the first issue was
originally slated to have a profile of the new American Idol attraction,
which was supposed to open at the end of the summer. But alas, it won't be
ready until early next year...though considering my lack of vocal skill
that's probably a good thing!!). I can tell you that it is shaping up to be
a lot of fun, I do hope you enjoy it. If anyone on the DISBoards is
wondering when the first issue is coming, let them that it's nearly ready
and it won't be long now! :-)

Thanks for writing and take care!

Just to reinforce what Taben said, Tim Foster replied to my email asking him what's up with the magazine. He told me how incredibly excited they are that the first issue is done (but still being printed) and they are already making strides on the second issue. He said that they will be requesting that the readers send in stories, pictures, etc to use in future issues.

That's all I got...be patient and I am sure it will be worth the wait,

In a WDW Radio interview with J.D. Roth a short while back, he mentioned that he was going to find if there was any interest in ressurecting Walt Disney World Inside Out. I seriously doubt anything will come of it, but I would love to see a WDW-centric TV show.

I asked this as well because I also had concerns. What company tells people-good things come to those who wait but doesn't hesitate to take our money? Listen, I am an easy going person, but this is getting crazy! Instead of waiting for us to email them with questions, they have our emails and they could have simply written just to let us know they were a little behind. And maybe I am mistaken, but wasn't it suppose to be here in September? And we heard the same story? I think this is lousy customer service.

I wonder what people think the alternative is? There is no option to "pay once you know your mailing it", so paying in advance seems logical to me. This is a new magazine, they are trying to make it perfect for the first issue, waiting a few more weeks is not a big deal IMO. If people had a problem with them accepting money before the mag went to press, then people should have waited to order it :confused3

DH hasn't received his either. I ordered it for him as a birthday present hoping I would have it in hand for him by September 27, obviously that didn't happen. Instead I had to print out a picture of the magazine cover from the website and tell him it's supposed to be coming soon. Not quite the same affect.
I didn't have a problem paying for it in advance, but I agree that from a customer service stand point, they could have been more informative if there was going to be a long delay.

NHTikiBeckie

When I ordered, the company said it would be released by a certain time. I didn't ask for that date, thats the one they gave. I was giving it to my son to do some "research" projects to prepare for our trip, not that the reason makes much of a difference. And yes, I gave him other material. The point is, if your late, your late. Fine, but how hard is it to let people know whats going on? If your ordering dinner out and there is a delay in the kitchen, don't you expect the waiter to come by and let you know? I've been on these boards too long not to know that not many would let that go by...

Life happens, but common curtesy, espeshially when there is money involved, should be a priority.

I TOTALLY agree with this. Frankly, if they weren't going to press when they said they were (or even when they planned to), they should not have hit my checking account for their money.

If they are able to put together a publication, then they certainly should be able to send a group email to those of us who paid good money. I'm sorry.

Don't worry if you paid by paypal...they'll refund it if it turns out to be a scam...at least I've had good luck with them in the past.
Hopefully, they'll start arriving soon and we'll all be pleased.

Hi Mary!
I'm happy to say that the first issue at the printers (we had to take an extra week or two to make sure everything was just right), and will be mailing out in just a few days, so the first issue should be in your hands in a week or so. Thanks for your patience, and I do hope you enjoy it...! :-)

Thanks for writing and take care!

I emailed the magazine asking when the first edition was coming out. I got a very quick response. Here it is...

We needed to take an extra couple of weeks to make sure everything was JUST
so, but I'm very happy to say that the first issue is on its way to the
mail house and should be arriving soon! I'm hoping to have the second issue
out by early December to "catch us up" so to speak. Lou and I and everyone
else involved are very happy with how it turned out, hopefully you will
enjoy it too :-)
Thanks for your patience (and please pass the word along if you know anyone
else who is anxiously waiting)!

Thanks so much!

That's kind of the way it is with most magazine subscriptions, though, isn't it? They usually take a month or two to start. Hopefully no one's been waiting much longer than that!

Oh I posted this on another thread about this mag and see that more people are on this one. Lou Mongello had Tim Foster from Guide to the Magic on his podcast this week and they talked about their magazine. They said it is finished, has gone to press and that we should expect it in 2-3 weeks. :thumbsup2

Since your post was on the 6th...I guess we all should be watching our mailboxes for its arrival any day now. I hope something comes before Halloween. I need a Disney fix! :yay:

I'll believe it when I see it. I'm glad I didn't subscribe yet. When/if you guys actually get your copies, you'll have to let us know how it is. Personally, I think the price is a little high for a subscription of 6 issues.

I just tried to file a paypal claim and was past the 45 day mark. I think we've all been scammed...I don't know who originally posted this or where they found it. I'm calling paypal tomorrow...I hate being scammed, just the principal of the thing, especially as much as paypal (which is a scam itself) has made off me selling Ebay stuff over the years.

You think so? Urrrggg...... Hey, do they have a phone number we can call? Is there any way to look up the company to see if it is reputable? I can try but I def welcome someone else incase I don't have any luck! :scared:

I don't think we've been scammed. Lou Mongello talks about this magazine and his reputation speaks for itself. I don't think its a scam at all. It's just probably taking them a little while to get started since its a brand new magazine and this will be the first issue.

The website is still working and people who have sent an email are getting responses. That's a good sign. Just give it a few more days.

Sea-Donkey
10-21-2008, 08:42 PM
Maybe, but considering we all paid with Paypal (which has an email on each account), you'd think they'd send out a mass email explaining the delay. I hope it wall works out.

I just got this email...wanted to post it all for you.

Hi Valerie!
Yeah, I just got an email from someone alerting me to what was going on on the DISBoards (which you've probably guessed I don't visit very much, particularly lately since I've been so busy with the magazine!).
Obviously it upsets me greatly that Lou and I have inadvertently caused a bit of angst (I guess that's an understatement!). If you're on the boards PLEASE PLEASE reassure everybody that the first issue really and truly is on its way (it's all up to the post office now so we'll see how speedy they are). The delay from our first promise date was due to a number of factors, not the least of which was my eternal optimism!! We also wanted to be REALLY sure that we made the first issue as good as it could be, and Disney actually had some last minute news that we wanted to be sure got in the magazine.
We're already hard at work on the second issue which will be out in early December, and we're burning the midnight oil to get ourselves back on our original schedule. I sincerely hope that everyone who knows Lou and I (well, more people probably know Lou) would know that we are both very passionate about sharing the magic of Disney with everyone (that's why we do this) and we would never ever ever do anything that we felt would upset anyone!
Also, if you could, let everyone know that if they email me I will always answer back, if it seems I didn't get back to them then that's a mistake on my part (perhaps I inadvertently deleted an email or something!)...just try me again!
Just remember that this is all about sharing the magic...and I do hope everyone is happy with the magazine, once they receive it of course!

Take care, and again I deeply apologize for any distress I might have caused you!!!
Tim

That doesn't fill me with optimism. Won't they have the same problem with every deadline? They will always want to try and make things perfect and Disney will always come out with more news just as you go to publication. That is, in fact, the nature of any business that deals with news. I am definitely not going to bother subscribing. They've lost a potential customer in me.

I ordered and paid the beginning of August and haven't received it yet either. There is another thread here somewhere that mentioned they were a little behind schedule and were hoping to get it out the middle to end of October. So we are all checking our mailboxes and being disappointed each night - but hopefully there will be a nice surprise one of these evenings.

Actually, there are 2 or 3 other threads out there about the same thing. No one has recieved it yet and people have sent emails to the magazine to see what is going on.

They emailed back saying its on the way and that they were just adding last minute news to the magazine.
