We watched our video 2 or 3 times the day we got it and will probably watch it many more before we leave.

Hi Celebrategoldens,

Last time I heard from you you had not told the kids. Did you finally tell them?

What was their reaction? As if I don't know.

Yes Apink, we told the kids, and they are very excited. Cruising is also THEIR idea of a gREAT vacation. We watched the video together, and we gave them a "hurricane hunter" certificate, since we are cruising in August! LOL
Since then, my husband gave ME a "Spa Certificate" that I can use for a Massage in the Spa on board! Only 111 more days!!!!:Pinkbounc

Hi All,

We have to come up with a way in the next 100 or so days how we will know each other or set up a certain meeting place and time for all of us so we can get to know each other and our kids can too.

Celebrategoldens
05-07-2002, 06:05 PM
I like the idea of trying to get to know each other and getting together sometime on board. I know other DisBoard have done this, maybe someone will share how to best ID each other and how to meet! We have 2nd seating for dinner! Anybody else???? Anybody else with TEENS and Preteens???

appink

I've read on these boards something about rubber band gatherings. Not quite sure what that is but we can come up with something to distinguish us between now and then.

Can't stay off these boards.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hi,

We have 2nd seating too. At first I was going to try to change it (it was not my preference), but after reading the boards I think I will keep it as is - although I usually don't like to eat so late at night.

We also have second seating (yay!) and there are 8 people in our part (2 families), 4 children in our party, Boy- 12 yrs, girl - 10 yrs, daughter -10 yrs and daughter - 8 yrs. Perhaps your 11 year old boy could hook up with our 12 year old, and your 8 year old girl could hook up with my 8 year old...

This will be our 1st 7-day cruise, but we have done 2 3-days and loved them!!

Hi all, just bumping this up to see if we have anyone else that wants to join our thread.

It's getting closer and closer. My DH is getting tired of me saying "someone on the boards said we should do this". I can't stay off of them.

Everytime I need a Disney fix I pull up someones review that has pictures in it. Can't wait for the group that is out there this week to do their reviews.

Welcome Amy, Looking forward to meeting you. There are lots of kids in the group so far. Yours will definately have someone to play with.

Celebrategoldens, as far as meeting somewhere, I read on these boards that there is a secret verandah on deck 7 with chairs. Maybe we all could meet there around 3 if that works for everyone. If anyone else can come up with something better that would be great.

Hi everyone,

We are on the 8/24 Eastern Cruise (7 day). It's me, DH, and DD (6). Late seating.

Maybe we could pick a color - and put that color ribbon on our door (and maybe a small one to pin to your bag or clothes while on board?) That way maybe we can identify each other.

What do you think? What's a good color - something others might not use.

My choices:
PURPLE
YELLOW

It is AUGUST YET???????????? I WANNA GO (whine whine whine)!!

Ducklite, I am so excited that you are joining us. We are finally getting quite a group together. Most of us are on late seating.

Hi,

Since we are traveling with our non-adventurous 6yr. old daughter, I thought I'd keep the "booked" excursions simple:

Butterfly farm tour & Coral World (I forget which one is on which island!)

I figured we'd do the rest on our own. We'll play to "hang out" on Castaway cay though.

If I am on a cat 12 guaranty - will I find out before I board what cabin number we are assigned to? How do I do that?

Thanks!

Jillsatravelin, grannymary & whiskers welcome to the group. We are trying to come up with a way for all of us to meet at a certain time and place.

Celebrategoldens has come up with us wearing a certain color ribbon. Maybe purple or yellow. I know there is a verandah on one end of the 7th deck or we could meet by one of the pools. I'm sure we will come up with something by the time we go. Maybe we could all wear the same color tee-shirts.

Or maybe even computer signs that say "DIS BOARD" I hope there are more older kids coming, most of you sound like your kids are elementary or younger. I have a middle schooler and a high schooler. Gee, it is already past Memorial DAY!!! Hurray!!! Can't wait to cruise!!! We have about decided to just do excursions "on our own" We have been on a few cruises and some of the stuff is just not exactly what we want and is real expensive. We are thinking of doing Trunk Bay for snorkling. Anybody else got any good ideas for " on your own" trips????

Whiskers, where are you coming from? Thank goodness we are in Virginia and only have a 2 hour flight. I remember going to California 2 years ago with my then 7 year old. He discovered the restroom on the plane and every 5 minutes had to go. Coming back it wasn't such a thrill so we just played cards with him.

Well, I now feel very poor, but very excited. I made my final payment yesterday. My TA asked if I would mind doing it a little early, as she is having surgery and will be out for some time, and it would be one less thing her coworkers would have to handle for her.

OK, so I have plane tickets, WDW reservations before and after the cruise. I have ********.net taking care of all the transfers for us, and written confirmation from Rabbit. I've paid for the cruise, scheduled the pet sitter, and given the concierge at the Poly and YC our dining info and gotten my PS's back from them. I called the GF Spa to get my spa treatments set up with my preferred therapists.

I still need to have DS and DH measured for their tuxes at a local place and then order them through cruiseline formal. I need to order gift baskets and flowers from Shirley. I need to call DCL 60 days out and set up Palo's, dining rotation and shore excurions. I need to take DS to get some shorts, he has grown five inches since last summer, and nothing fits anymore. :(

I feel like I'm forgetting something really huge.

Whiskers-

The first time we went to Disney with our two DD (ages 3 and 6 at the time) I was dreading the 3 hour flight. I packed their backpacks so full of things to do that they could not even carry them by themselves - coloring books, crayons, game boys, CD walkman, Pixters. I did that the first 3 times we went to Disney before I realized that they did not use any of it. This year I bought them each a portable DVD player. They are a little expensive but worth every penny. Last month I didn't hear a word from my 5 year old during the whole flight. My parents and in-laws each live about an hour away and every time we drive there we use the DVD players. It makes the car ride so much more enjoyable! I payed about $400 each at BJ's for the RCA ones but I just saw an APEX brand advertised at Walmart for only $179. I would recommend them to anyone. I bought nice carrying cases that are padded and they both fit into one carry-on bag that my husband carries. The girls don't have to carry anything. They were definitely worth the money for us.

It you can't find it you should check EBay, I saw quite a few there. You can buy an adapter for the headphones and plug 2 sets in if you want two kids to share. That was my original plan but I didn't want to deal with the fighting. If you just buy a reqular, cheap adapter then you lose some of the sound. You can spend a little more on one that makes the sound the same as if just one person were listening. I bought these so that my husband and I can watch with the kids. There's just one problem-my 6 year old wants to watch Spongebob Squarepants over and over.

jillsatravelin
06-06-2002, 11:18 PM
I had this same thought when we went to Hawaii last October and packed half of their room for the flight. It was over 5 hours and they didn't use anything....... except for playing a few game boy games and watching the in flight movie. I think I'll look into the cheaper DVD player from Walmart. I know what you mean about the Sponge Bob movies, over and over and over! It might just be worth the $200 bucks and will be used many times to come. I was thinking they could just watch the in flight movie again but it probably won't be for little kids.
Have any of you used ********.net? I just got a quote of $130 round trip for eight of us, my brother and sister-n-law is coming too. That seems so cheap. I'm visioning this 1960's van pulling up with no AC. LOL. Just wondering if any of you have any thoughts about them. I still haven't booked the night before yet, it just kills me to pay $180 for the Hyatt when were not even arriving until midnight and leaving early the next morning. I'm so excited I want to be the first at the ship! :Ü Jill

I haven't used ******** yet, this will be the first. I've also never used Happy Limo. I have used Florida Towncar and TIffany, both many times. I've never had a "Bad" experience with either, BUT, the FTC quality did slip after a couple of years, and while Tiffany drivers have been fine, their office people have been surly the last couple times I've called. So I'm trying ******** this time.

Not sure if you realize it, but you can take DCL transportation for a small fee as well from the airport, even if your flight arrives the day before.

I would use Tiffany again (in fact I just won free r/t transport by Tiffany from MCO to any WDW area resort in a raffle, and plan on using it next February :D ! ). So far I've been happy with ********, but I can't really recommend them yet.

I bought 4 sets (2 adults and 2 children) of equipment at BJ's. I saw the identical sets (same brand) at Land's End for $79. I paid only $25. I have heard that's what it costs just to rent the equipment for a day. Each set has a snorkel, mask and fins in a nice carrying case that drains well if the equipment is still wet. The equipment is very good quality, especially for $25.

Kamlem,

Do you remeber the name brand? I've seen lots of equip in varying prices and was wondering what was a good brand for kids. Thanks

KAMLEM

The brand is US Divers. We haven't used them yet but they look good. The fins have extra padding around the back so that the straps won't rub agains your ankles. There's a plastic mesh fabric so that they'll drain if you put them away wet. I don't know anything about snorkeling equipment but it looks good!

Have you all thought about your shore excursions? We can book them starting in a couple of weeks.

I think we're going to do the "Under Two Flags" tour in St. Maarten, and maybe the walking tour in St. Thomas.

We're not really huge "beachy" people, and figure if the weather is nice, we'll just take a cab to the beach when we finish the tour, otherwise we'll just get back on board and relax by what should be fairly empty pools.

DS (16) is going to do the Teen Regatta in St. Maarten, and I think just stay on the ship in St. Thomas--we haven't decided for sure yet. At CC I want him to do the Wildside, but he's saying he wants to just play on the teen beach, so maybe...

What's everytone else doing, and what are your kids doing?

I think we are just going to do our own thing. We are big beach people so for the most part we will hang out at the beaches. We are still trying to decide whether to buy our own snorkling gear. It would probably be the only time we every use it so it doesn't sound like a real good idea.

DS9 is really excited. He really wants to try snorkling so he can see the different kinds of fish.

It is a DIS tradition that one wears lime green ribbons to identify himself to another DISer. Not that that is set in stone. Just a suggestion.

My TA said we wouldn't be able to book excursions until we were on the boat. Is this true? If we can book in advance does the info come to the TA or directly to my house? My TA is taking the summer off so she won't even be working when it's time for us to go. Also how far in advance do we get the travel documents?

You can book your excursions 60 days in advance either through DCL or on your own. If you received the brochure it explains the excursions in it or you can go to Disneycruise.com and go through the menu. It has excursions on it explaining the different types of excursions. Hope this helps. I'm sure others have more to say.

We booked through DU.

I got a great deal on snorkel gear. It was only $25 a set at BJ's. It includes a snorkel, mask and fins with a really nice case that has mesh areas for drainage. I saw the same exact gear at Land's End for $79 a few months ago.

Has anyone experienced the LAP dining rotation on a cruise. It would mean you are in Lum. on the last night. Since this is the most formal dining resturant I'm curious how people dress. With late dining and the need to pack I was wondering if people still wear their formal attire or are a little more relaxed since it is the last night.

We're pretty usre we're going to do the under two flags tour on St. Maartan, not sure about St. Thomas. DH has a former coworker who is now living there, and a friend of mine spends about half the year there, so we might just spend time with friends.

DS is going to do the Teen Regatta on St. Maartan.

We aren't big beach people. I might buy one set of snorkle gear to share. I wouldn't rent, I just dont think they properly sanitize the stuff---sorry, but bleach does NOT kill everything. Unless I can see that they are using a hospital grade disenfectant, and using it properly, I'm not going to use rented stuff. You can call me nuerotic, but my doctor doesn't.

You and me both. Lets not even get into endoscopes!! I would NEVER let them use one of those one me--they can't be autoclaved!!!

Although bleach in the right concentration and when soaked for long enough will kill many bugs, including HIV, it wo'nt kill all bugs. Parvoviruses and coronaviruses are particularly nasty, and bleach will NOT kill them all.

We are traveling w DGD who is 1..On all the post I've read I was under the impression that no children under 3 were allowed on any of the excusions. Well I called twice and was told both times that if it says in booklet all ages,it means just that, all ages. The difference is some still charge the child rate even if the child is 1 or 2..We are doing the Butterfly tour and they consider my DGD a lap child so we don't pay for her!! This is great new for us because we really weren't sure if we would be able to get the right time for flounders. We can start making reservations for excusions as of tomorrow 6/25... I am getting ready to pre-book my excursions for the cruise. I have a very non-adventurous 6 yr. old daughter to consider. I am definitely going to book the butterfly tour excursion on St. Maarten but have no idea what to book on St. Thomas/St. John.

I was going to book the Coral World/Island Drive in St. Thomas/St. John but my daughter wasn't interested (why? I don't know - she loves aquariums!!)

So. ...... should I book it anyway (coral world)? what do you all think of the St. John or St. Thomas Island tours?? I think the St. John would be nicer, no?

Depends on the type of aircraft and where your seat is. I wouldn't count on it though.

Generally teh seats on the newer planes towards the front of the cabin or in First Class are the ones with the plugs.

PAM, Glad you found us. If you haven't had time read the post on this thread, we now have a lot of people on board. Remember when we first started this way back when on cruise critic we didn't get much response. Once we found disboards we picked up a lot.

Pam and Mary-

I have an 8 yr old DD also. She's very shy so I'm hoping she'll make some friends. My other DD is 6 and I'm afraid that they will just cling to each other.

My DD age 8 can also be shy. So maybe if we introduce the two early they will both feel more comfortable.

AAA. I originally booked it myself, then moved it to AAA so my friend would get the "credit" for the booking--she is a AAA TA.

For those who booked through AAA and haven't gotten docs yet, call your agent. The docs are probably in and they just haven't called you yet.

I used AAA, but the office I used is not the closest to my house. My friend works there, which I why I used them. So she Fed Ex'ed the docs when they arrived. I would imagine that normally they would just mail them or ask you to come in for them.

Thanks Anne, for giving the low down on the AAA. My agent here is pretty BAD! We wanted to get on their "GREAT" deal that they had available for the week we all are sailing, did you get that deal? But instead, we got the regular AAA group rate (a whopping $50 saving for the entire family). My DH and I wanted the girl to keep checking and see if one of the superdeal spots became available, but they wouldn't do that and the "cruise specialist" in our local AAA office was just downright rude. We did end up saving a couple of hundred bucks over what even DU could do for us so we took their offer,(especially since we are big Soda drinkers and they give you the unlimited soda cups). I guess I will call the office and see if they are holding our documents ransom. Hopefully we will get our documents soon.
For those of you interested in my Golden puppies, they will be SIX weeks old tomorrow! They are growing up SO cute and all have wonderful homes waiting for them! They sure have made the wait till the cruise a LOT quicker!

Plus I just got the concierge letter with the "secret phone number" (Mary I'm going to PM it to you) and just finished making my dining rotation selection and Palo's reservations (I'm holding a reservation for five for tea on Thursday, Mary and I would love to have three more join us).

KamLem--it's a phone number for guests in category 1-2-3 cabins to call in advance to make dining rotation selections and Palo's reservations. one less thing to have to do during the ressie scramble on boarding day.

I would have your DU agent check, there are a couple of us on this sailing that have already gotten our docs.

I had already selected a cabin, didn't have run of the ship or guaranteed category, wonder if that makes a difference?

When I spoke to the concierge people last week I specifically asked about the dining times. I was told that it had beena trial, and it was due to end as scheduled (was it on the 8/6 sailing?)

She also said that they are subject to change.

SO basically noone seems to really know, although I do know the WONDER's diing times have been changed all the way through September.

This is directly opposite of what I was told. We requested late seating, so it doesn't really matter, except there might be more little ones if they change it at the late seating which is what I was trying to avoid (no offense to anyone).
