We sent back our BCV add on paperwork today.
We got another member guidebook. There isn't anything in it about the cash discount for members for cash ressies at DVC resorts. I know this was not always an available option but I'm wondering now if we can't get that discount (25%) at all anymore.

I've not heard of this being taken away altogether. More likely is that it just got left out of the book - the new membership guidebook is basically not good for very much (IMO).

I never quite understood the 25% cash discount. When we first joined DVC in 1995, we always paid cash for Friday and Saturday night. We got the 25% discount rate. When we stopped at HH in 1998, I was surprised that we didn't get any discount for being DVC members. I surmised that it was because we don't actually own any points at HH, so we probably weren't entitled to the discount.

Please let us know what you find out.

I got a cash discount on Thanksgiving weekend at VWL 2 BR last week. MS was surprised that the special ($390 plus tax) was available this long out, it seems the DVC member discount usually don't come out until a month or couple months out. But, never the less, we got it for Thanksgiving 2002.

The 25% discount is potentially available to all members regardless of DVC resort. We extended our stay at HH this January by one day for cash and got the discount. However, the availability of the discount has always varied, and bargin hunters can frequently find better cash deals than 25% off the rack rate (the AP discount is usually better - if available).

Has anyone ever booked the weekend using the 25% cash discount and then swithed over to a code discount if better when it became available?

We booked at VB with the 25% DVC discount for three days following a stay at BWV in January. We then switched over to a Disney Club discount about six week before our stay. The DC discount saved us a modest amount and gave us daily housekeeping service as well.

I thought the 25% discount was available when members wanted to make reservations on a cash basis and rooms had reached the breakage period. Then what is the breakage period time frame? I thought it pertained to accomodations that were 60 days out. I need some clarification on this. If someone wants to email me - feel free - davidross8@juno.com.

The 25% discount is not always available and is sometimes available before 60 days.

The first responsibility is for point reservations. The discount may be available at times when historically a resort won't "sell out" on points or when it becomes evident to MS that point reservations won't fill the available reservations.

There are times when cash reservations won't be available thru MS at all also. I never hurts to ask, but be prepared to have to call at a later date for discounted cash reservations.

Thanks Doc.

I guess that my discounted DVC cash reservation at VWL on 11/29 & 11/30/02 is during low point reservation period (75 points & 61 points for Friday and Saturday nights, respectively.) But that's great, at first I thought I had to utilize 136 of my VWL point.

Thank you all for your responses. I'm glad the discount is still here, at least some of the time. Does member services have information regarding the annual pass room rates?

No, MS does not normally have the AP discount information. You'll need to call CRO for that.
