Question from a NYer locked out of buying at WLV through the mail.

Can you make reservations at a DVC resort without being a member and apply your reservation dollars towards your DVC purchase, or convert your reservation into points after your purchase?

I ask because I am in desperate need of a vacation, but don't want to spend money if I plan on joining the DVC. Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions?

I left a message for a DVC guide, but was hoping to hear from someone's experience.

Unfortunately, you cannot apply dollars spent on a room to a DVC purchase when you get there. NY is not yet approved for VWL (in some states it just takes a long time to get approved) and thus you would have to go to Florida to purchase. Note though, that nothing prevents you from looking at the resale market and buying either at OKW or BWV through that market. You don't need to go to Florida. You can buy Villas at Wilderness Lodge, Hilton Head and Vero Beach at Disney's Hilton Head Resort.

That when we took the tour the first time, we called and they gave us a special rate for the room. It was a rate only available to taking the tour. This was a LONG time ago though.
