Here are some shots I took at a party we hosted on Sunday evening. The shots were primarily natural light, but I used a bit of flash (-2 comp) with a warming filter.

Well we are fast approaching winter here, so these are nice to see.

Just one thing - are those grasshoppers seriously something you eat? It looks like lemons in the dish. :scared:

Maybe I shouldn't knock it until I've tried it but I was prepared to ask the same question Pea-n-Me did.:) I guess we live sheltered lives up here in New England!!:laughing:

Wait just a second now. Are you trying to say that you guys don't eat grasshoppers or you don't eat them fried? What the heck do you do with them? You can't just leave them there eating all the local crops.

I'm surprised to hear the claim that you are sheltered in New England. The last time I was there people were eating oysters! Raw! Now that's just revolting. I have a hard time imagining that I would ever be that hungry.

Oh, and those are limes, not lemons. You would never eat grasshoppers with lemons. That would be kind of gross, don't you think?

I'm not saying anything. They eat Rocky Mountain Oysters here. I don't, other people do. I sat by the bucket once at a branding :eek: ...that was enough for me.

Me? Gosh no. I don't eat bugs. But other people there actually tried them. Several said that they were good, but I noticed that no one had seconds.

It is still warm enough to swim in Texas? It got way way down to almost 60 degrees here last night- I'm staying away from the pool- Brrrr!

We were getting highs in the mid 80's last weekend. The pool was cold (about 78 or 79), but I heated it up to 86 for the party.

Nighttime temperatures have been in the mid 50s all week and the pool was down to the low 70s this weekend. The boys put on wet suits and played for a while, but they eventually migrated to the hot tub.

We're expecting highs in the very low 80s for the next few days with nights getting down into the low 50s. A cold front is expected later in the week and we'll start seeing highs in the low 70s. Time to break out the jackets. I'll probably have to wear a light one on my ride in to the office. 52 degrees is a little chilly for a bike ride.

Well, I guess you got me on that one (although I have never eaten a raw oyster myself, and I never intend to).

Grasshoppers are kinda crunchy. Not bad tasting at all. Ants have more of a pop than a crunch. :) Grubs just kinda squished like a watery gummy bear. :rotfl2:

A year or so back there was a BugFest that we went too. Really cool event downtown near the science and history museums. A local bug exterminating company, could I MAKE that up?, had a tent were you get could free food made with bugs. The food had bugs on purpose. :rotfl:

I got a plateful. For some reason the the wife and kids did not want to partake......

Until I showed up with cookies. :confused3

The kids wanted I mean WANTED the cookies. They asked, "Are there really bugs on the cookies?" :laughing: And I truthfully said yes there are ant sprinkles on the cookies. The kids said, "You are just saying that so we won't eat the cookies!"

They ate the cookies! :scared1: Afterwards they asked, "There really were not ants on the cookies, right?" :lmao:

And of course there were ant sprinkles. To this day they don't think they ate ants. :rotfl2:

BTW I read an article years ago about The Great Salt Lakes, ancient people, and grasshoppers. Long story short is that there is a theory that people could live near the Great Salt Lake because grasshoppers would drown in the lake and get washed up on shore. Salted of course. With very little effort the grasshoppers could be "harvested" and eaten. A cup of grasshoppers has as much protein as a Big Mac. :scared1: And maybe as much salt. :lmao:
