So I am trying to find out information about the fireworks, spectro, etc. Not even sure what takes place where. Does anyone know when the calendar for May will come out?

Does anyone know if a 1 year old can go on any rides?

I am starting to worry about making our dining reservations. Hopefully the dates will be available when we call in December.
Still debating on AKL with view or WL? We just have no idea what to even expect when we get there. Maybe thats a good thing. We just keep hearing the WL might be easier with our 2 small children? Although I know my 4DD would love to see the animals each day.

Hi there! Just stumbled upon your PTR and thought I would join in. So, have you or your hubby been before, or is this a total newbie family?
There are a lot of rides you can take a one year old on. Especially in the MK, but all parks have them. My first trip to wDW was 2 years ago. The DH had been before, but not me and my DS. What I really fell in love with was the fact there were so many rides you could all do together. That was Walts vision.
Sorry, but can't help you choose a hotel. I haven't gotten the oppotunity to stay at one of the deluxes, but have visited both for the restaurants and they are both gorgeous. WL is closer to MK, so shorter travel times there. Plus you can take a boat or bus to it.
Oh, and WCC is probably my favorite restaurant. And your kids will love Chef Mickey's. Haven't tried the others.
Not sure when the new calendars come out. I would think it would be soon though.
If you have more questions, I would happy to answer them. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Hi! You're going to love Disney! I'm not an expert on hotels and dining, but I just wanted to chime in to say our family dynamic is much like yours, a three-year-old and a one-year-old, and we had a blast!! Disney is so thoroughly kid-friendly, no matter what age of child. Our one-year-old loved it and keeps asking to go back, "waterfall? Ride horsie? No White?" She was 18 months when we went. It was such a magical experience and all the things I worried about with small children were absolutely no problem. Neither were too scared of any of the rides or characters. Even Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribean were fine for our two, but play it by ear with yours. Don't do these rides first thing. We also brought little Wallmart harnesses for the two to wear in lines and coming in and out of shows. You can't take strollers through lines or in shows, so it was nice to have a way to keep them close during these transitions. I heard a suggestion to bring bubbles to keep them entertained in lines. Bubbles are mess-free (mostly!) and can come in small bottles, easy to carry around. This was a wonderful thing to fall back on if the kids were getting cranky or impatient in line. Wow, I really didn't mean to rattle on like this. I just meant to encourage you that it's going to be great, and Disney with small children wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. It really wasn't difficult at all!

Thanks so much for all the great ideas. The bubbles is something I need to remember. We decided on the WL after lots and lots of reading last night. I think for the ages of our kids its the best bet. Nope, we have never been. I grew up in southern California so we have done disneyland. I have been told there is no comparison, especially in size so I am excited to get there. Has anyone used the Magical Express...anything we need to know? We are still waiting for Disney to get the dining reservations for May fixed and then we can make some reservations. I bought Disney Dining the book, so going to check out some of the other choices, too! I am glad to know the 4 of us can have fun. I found a harness once that looked more like a stuffed animal. Might need that for our 13 month old to be. Funny to think about since he is not even crawling yet. I am still trying to find out more about Sprectro. Read its a must do, but is it fireworks or a parade? Anyone know! Well the 6 month mark is getting closer. We are counting down the months days and minutes until our 1st Trip!!!

We did Magic Express on our first trip and loved it. They mail you tags for your luggage. You check your luggage in at your airport and don't see it again until you get to the hotel. Usually 3 or 4 hours after you arrive. So, don't pack anything you might need once you get to the hotel. As someone that now drives to the parks, I really miss the ME. It was so nice to look around and not have to worry about following signs to somewhere you have never been before. Just a couple of weeks ago I was trying to get to Typhoon Lagoon, and missed my turn and ended up in the Magic Kingdom parking lot.:rolleyes1
I think the harnesses are a wonderful idea. Rebecuberduber was right about what happens when shows let out. Even my 9 year old will grab my hand after a show because he is afraid of losing me. Shows like Lights, Motor, Action; and Fantasmic seat thousands. Also, make something to make your stroller stick out. A special ribbon or something. I get a kick out of all the strollers you see parked.
Spectromagic is a parade, at night in the Magic Kingdom. Highly recommend this. Lots of lights and the kids will love it. It is actually the only parade at any of the parks we have seen, except for the one for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party. We just never take the time to stop and watch, but I plan on doing so soon.
Hope this helps!

Thanks can't wait until May. The Magical Express sounds great. Especially since my Iowa Farm Boy doesn't drive well in traffic. I do all the driving when we go to my home in California. The parades sound great. My DD4 loves fireworks! We ordered her a Belle outfit from Disney. Great timing they were on sale after Halloween for the trip. Yippie! My parents are getting us gift cards for Christmas. That will be nice when we want to do some shopping or more eating then the DDP lets us do. I got my Disney Dining book by Frommers. What a great book for anyone who has never been. It tells you the name of the dining location, type of food, price, characters, etc. Even how long the wait can be on a normal date. We found dining locations we want to check out that we didn't even know existed. Still hoping we can get into CRT on Friday morning. I will be up at the crack of dawn!!!
So we officially switched to WL Woods View. Think it was a better choice with our ages going. The boat ride WL alone sold me.
Anyone know anything about the pools there, though? Do they have a children's pool by chance? Also wondering if anyone has any great dining ideas? I get mixed reviews on all the character dining experiences. My DD4 loves everything so no real favorites, except Belle! princess:
Can't believe we are almost to the 6 month marker. With the holidays coming, May will be here before we know it. Of course I say that now when there is no snow on the ground yet.

Can someone with little kids under age 4, tell me if the park hopper is worth the extra money? We have a 5 day base ticket right now. I am just afraid MK is the only place my kids are really going to like and that maybe after a few hours at Epcot, we might wish we could return later on that sameday to MK. Thoughts anyone?

My family is also going to Disney for the first time in April though. I read that your family will be buying girt cards for spending. That is what we are doing too. Kids get $25 for birthday and $50 for x-mas. I think $75 for spending for them will be good. I have made shirts for each day so no need to buy them and I will buy their Mickey ears, so that will not be out of their money. We also have been saving all our change always break the dollar, and every month I have been cashing it in to add to the trip and it has always been over $100 except for once.

11-02-2008, 07:38 PM
Thats a great idea. We use our check book more than anything so I round everything to the next dollar. When April comes I will re-balance my checkbook and we can take out all the extra I have...We did this once before for an entire year and it amounted to almost $200.00. You don't even notice it at the time! The gift cards are a great idea. We stocked up on the Disney website. They recently had t-shirts for $1.99 or $3.99 and backpacks for $7.99. I put all the items in our closet until the trip!

I know I have been buying summer cloths on clearance, bought 4 pairs shorts at Target for only $3.00 and putting everything into the suitcases. My husband thinks I'm crazy. I already have all the shirts made, bought all the small stuff like soap, sunscreen, ponchos......all packed all ready! Am I crazy??:headache: Or am I just getting pre-paired. Okay now I'm thinking I'm crazy, I should be X-mas shopping instead of Disney shopping.:rotfl:

In my opinion I would forgo the park hoppers. We found entering and exiting parks to be kind of a hassle for small kids what with strollers and waiting for buses, etc. I think there's plenty for small kids at any one of the parks that you shouldn't need to hop around. At any rate, if you finish a park earlier than expected, you can always go swim at the hotel. Our little ones loved this almost as much as the parks itself, sometimes, and it was always nice to unwind by the kiddie pool while the little ones played at the end of the day. (I think most if not all resort pools have kiddie areas -- could be wrong. Might want to check yours.)
On the other hand, during busier times, many people swear by returning to the resort in the afternoons to rest, and then returning to a park in the evening. Afternoons are the busiest and hottest times of day. If you decide to go this route, it might be nice to have the hopper option so you can return to a different park in the evenings. It would make more sense since you'd be leaving the park anyway. Sorry for being long-winded again

We have always park hopped, but ours was 7 the first time we went. We would go to the parks, head to the hotel after lunch for a break and then back to a park. We always went to a different park, but it really wouldn't be necessary to go to a different park.
The one thing I can recommend. If you plan to go to a certain park on a morning EMH day, make sure you get there when the park opens, or close to it. We kept goofing up on our last trip and getting there when the rest of guests were allowed in and it just seemed overcrowded.
Oh, and you are not crazy to already be shopping for your trip, just addicted. But so are the rest of us.:lmao:

Thanks for the advice. I think we will pass on the hopper. If we want to go back we can always go back to the same resort or just relax at the hotel like mentioned. So we got into CRT and CM exactly when we wanted. I was so totally excited. Forgot that Sunday is going to be Mothers Day while we are there. Not sure if the parks will be extra busy or not. We were planning AK for that day. Just need to think about some reservations. Maybe Boma that night? Any suggestions??? popcorn::

So we are now staying at the Poly May 6 to 12th. Great deal with the new code. We have 5 days of base tickets and the DDP. I can't wait. The Poly looks so relaxing and the pool will be great for our 2 little ones.
We got our reservations made for CRT and Chef Mickeys. Think we will try and do Playhouse Disney Dining, 1900 Park Fare, Ohana character breakfast and dinner and Kona. We decided to hang out more at the hotel and eat on the monorail when possible. My DH wants to try Earl's? What do you think...
I am going to do garden grocery to get water, diapers, etc. All the things we need that take up a lot of space. It cost less to deliver than another suitcase would cost.
We also bought a Photopass. That will be so nice to actually have pictures of all 4 of us at one time. Thanks Disney=)
I have to say a huge thanks to our TA. She got us a better rate than Disney CM. Plus lots of other goodies and she has taken the headache out of doing reservations! :wizard:

Hi Glad you figured out the link I followed it over !! I agree about the hoppers with young kids its a lot!!We ate at H&V for breakfst last year and liked it !! I've seen a lot of negatives about it but more the dinner than the character meals! In september Chef Mickey is a must do ! When I go solo I usually only do CP that is character as I like to try more grown up places and save the others for family trips !!

Hey! Congratulations on learning how to post your link in your signature! I saw your post on the May 09 thread and followed the link over to your Pre-Trip Report. I'm subscribing!
Our family went on our very first trip to WDW this past May and had the best time of our lives! Our children are older (DS11 & DD8) but Disney works for all ages.
If I may, as a fellow planner, I would like to offer you some advice that was totally helpful to us in planning our first trip this past spring:
- Check the DISboards OFTEN! The best information you can possibly gain can be found on these boards. Caution - they are addictive! I can read trip reports and restaurant reviews for hours!
- Buy the books. The Unofficial Guide is a great resource. There is also a book called "Disney with Children" that I would highly recommend. (I have forgotten who wrote that one. We found it at our local Books-A-Million.)
- Congratulations on getting your reservations for Chef Mickey's and Cinderella's Royal Table. Those are great ADRs to have! Your daughter is going to LOVE meeting Cinderella and eating inside the castle!
- Staying at the Poly, you can get to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot by monorail...which is great! It is hassle-free. You'll be able to get to Animal Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios by bus.
- GET TO THE PARKS EARLY!! If I could give you only one piece of advice, it would be to get there when they open. You'll be able to do most of the things that interest you within the first 2 or 3 hours. By lunchtime, you can get the kids back to the room for an afternoon nap, then go back later.
- On the park hopper question, I don't think it would be worth the money for your family.
Sorry for so much information, but I just love to help newbies like others helped us! Check out our trip report from this past May (our first trip) and our Pre-Trip Report for May, '09. (The links are in my signature.)
Hope this helps!

Alan you said it well as usual !! The Pixie Dust is definately found on these boards !! When I was a newbie not so long ago I would have been clueless without the Dis !! I agree they are addictive and yet it is like having an extended family who don't think you are Nute for loving Disney !! These boards are so often my release from home and work tensions and stress !! You Alan are an awesome Disser !!

I just stumbled across your PTR and notice you are from Iowa as well. Now that the weather it getting colder, I can wait for warm Florida weather (hopefully rain-free).
We are headed there at the end of April for our first family trip as well. Me, DH, DS3, DS8. I never knew there was so much planning until I discovered the DIS. I'm now addicted and read it every day. I especially love reading the trip reports and looking at pics.
I can't wait for our trip as well. Enjoy the planning!

Awww....thanks Rosie! I know what you mean about the DISboards being a stress reliever from life's tensions! If I am in a bad mood or stressed out, I can start reading these boards and thinking about my next WDW trip, and all of the sudden I am in a good mood!

Thanks. We did buy the books. Disney Dining, The Unofficial Guide, Disney with kids and Disney for kids. I love to read so its been neat getting to see all that goes on and find out information about Disney World. We can't wait for our trip! We are just now trying to decide if we want to order our kids a basket for when we arrive with mickey ears and an autograph book, etc. I have seen a couple different sites that cater to those. I know I want to hit the parks early. Hopefully the calendar comes out sometime soon! Thanks again...I am sure with the cold weather and wet white stuff on the ground my addiction to the Dis will only grow stronger.

Sounds like you are definitely on the right track with planning!
You have mentioned some of the restaurants you would like to try. I would highly recommend breakfast at 'Ohana and dinner at Kona. We did both on our last trip and enjoyed them very much. You also mentioned Boma and Yak & Yeti. We had breakfast at Boma and loved it. I'll admit that I"m not much of a buffet fan, so we have not tried if for dinner...but many people on these boards seem to really like it. We really enjoyed Yak & Yeti. (We had lunch there.) You had also mentioned Le Cellier earlier. We LOVED Le Cellier!!
Anyway, if you are interested, here are links to our reviews of some of these restaurants:

Wow Disney is really not on top of their game this year. No May hours still and no idea when they may come out. Also they are pushing the ADR's into Jan. sometime. Crazy!
Well I picked up some ponchos, a mist fan, swim pants for our soon to be 1 year old and some other odds and ends.
I think I am also going to use Garden Grocery to have some things delivered to our room.
I went ahead and ordered a stroller though Orlando Stroller Rental. A little expensive, but they have great strollers. Easy to use which will be a must with our 2 little ones.
My 4 DD is so ready for May. Must be the inch of pure ice covering everything as far as one can see. Is winter over yet? :scared:

So I totally realized I forgot to introduce us. I am a 32 year California Native living in the middle of a huge cornfield and pig farm called Northern Iowa. Ugh! Luckily the ground is frozen right now, so the only thing I can smell is exhaust from warming my suv. Burr! It was a warm 6 degrees today. I do accounting for a car dealership in our town. My DH is 31 and thinks I have an obsession with WDW. He is right. He describes me as Kate from Jon and Kate Plus 8. I'll take that as a complement. I am as organized as a person can be... He is a welder by day, a construction worker by weekend and a farmer by life. My DD 4 is everything Princess. She lets me know every time she sees anything with Disney on it, that we are going there. We have been planning this trip since she turned 2. My mistake=) My DS is about to turn 8 months. Wow! He has no idea what he has in store. At least someday he will be able to look back at all the photos we have taken. He has been hearing about WDW since he was well a test tube baby as my family calls him. I had IVF. So my babies are my miracles! :lovestruc
We are changing our minds over and over as we read more disboards and other trip reports. Plus all the great advice and responses I have been getting. Wow we made the 5 month marker! There are so many great dining choices and things to do and see. Would love to hear from anyone with a 1 and 4 year old what their favorites were? We have confirmed our CRT breakfast and Chef Mickeys breakfast.
So thanks again for reading. We look forward to learning more and hope you all enjoy reading more about our pretrip! Poly here we come!

I just stumbled upon your report and we are going to be at the Poly May 1-10. My DD will be 22 months when we are there. It will be my first trip as well. I have been reading and planning since January, so I am very ready to make ADRs and get there. The only thing I've learned in my reading that I haven't seen in your notes is the Princess meal at Akershus in Epcot. I'm pretty sure that you have a shot at seeing Belle there. My DD is just getting into the princesses, but I am hoping to book this one. We are doing CRT for dinner because she is fascinated with the fairy godmother. Hopefully the May hours will be out soon and maybe we can make ADRs on the 22nd :wizard:

I see you are older than your DH, so am I and he never lets me forget it. Well, I didn't go until my DS was 7 so can't really help with planning with a 1 and 4 year old. It's fun planning that first trip. Actually its fun planning all of them. We live close by, but still have a weekend trip planned for next Labor Day and I can't wait to start making dining reservations.

Well we hopefully are in the process of changing to WL. I could not believe the price difference and it still is a deluxe. We also went down to the quick service meal plan. Sounds much easier with our 2 little ones. I hate the idea of missing reservations, because of a tired toddler or worse yet making a tired toddler go to dinner. There are so many great quick service meals I have read about...can't wait. Plus we already got and paid for our CRT and Chef Mickeys! So any thoughts on WL?

I have totally fallen for all the photos and reviews of WL on site. What a beautiful place, will feel a little like home. I am thinking we may add 1 more ADR. I really want to sit down on Mothers Day and eat somewhere. Not sure which park we will be at since no May hours yet. Hmm! Well I should go make some lasagna and get some rest. I decided to roll down our wooden steps last night. My DD tells me that your not suppose to color your skin purple. Ugh!

Sounds like you have made some great plans. I love the WL. It is so nice to be a boatride away from MK w/ the little ones. Last time we stayed there we enjoyed the quiet pool. My son loved going exploring w/ me, the upper floors around the lobby have lots of neat little sitting areas. Our room faced the castle and through some tree branches we could see from our balcony the monorail and Wishes fireworks at night. This trip we will be at Pop but will visit WL for old times and some dinner.:goodvibes I hope its a great first of many WDW trips for your family!:goodvibes

So my arm is now a beautiful green color. Oh well! At least nothing broke. So we got our reservations changed to Wilderness Lodge woods view. I can't wait. It is the one our daughter wanted to stay at. Too many episodes of Jon and Kate Plus 8. My 4 year old loves to tell me that lady is as weird as you. Ok so I am a little too organized. Thus my love of Disboards. So I am trying to find out anything and everything about WL? What the pool looks like, hotel rooms, places to eat, etc? Any information would be great.

Just trying to fit in. (ha,ha) So ready for a little trip tomorrow to the big cit of Des Moines. Hey, I get a mall, though! Can't wait to look for some little things to bring along to keep the kiddos entertained on the car/plane ride.
So now thinking about Biergarten. My husband and I are both German. My husbands family evens speaks German and he loves all that interesting food. Especially stinky cheese as my daughter calls it. Sounds like a place to keep my DD entertained. popcorn::
Leaning towards WCC since we will be at WL anyway.
Anyone think we should venture to Downtown Disney with our 2 little ones or save it for when they are older?

So we made it back. Luckily we were not one of the many cars we saw in the ditch. Hate black ice and night time only makes it all the more worse.
We did manage to hit Kohls. Great sales!!Got DD 2 dresses, 2 capris, 2 baby doll tops, 2 pjs. DS 2 shorts and 2 tops. Crazy. They have shorts out but no snow boots in stock? This is the frozen tundra after all.
Also got some more reading on disboards during the weekend. More confused than ever on character dining now? Ugh! So many choices so little time.
Have decided to use the Disney Florist to get the DD and DS a basket. They come with mickey ears, autograph books, etc. Will be so fun to see them when it gets delivered!!!

Not sure myself...here is what I found
MONTH MAY
TEMPERATURE (AVERAGE) - HIGH: 88ºf / 31ºc
TEMPERATURE (AVERAGE) - LOW: 66ºf / 19ºc
RAINFALL (AVERAGE) - IN INCHES: 3.6
COMMENT ABOUT THE MONTH: Crowds are moderate, but towards the end of the month, there are more school groups visiting.
After an Iowa winter....I take anything above freezing!:worship:

May is absolutely AWESOME!! It is hot enough to go to all the waterparks, but not too crowded. You run a risk of rain almost everyday, but it doesn't last long and most all of the attractions are indoors anyway. We loved going last May so much that we are going back again this May.

So my DB leaves tomorrow to fly back to Iraq. It was so great to have him home for 2 weeks. We are so lucky we got to spend the holidays with him.
It made me even more thankful for upcoming trip. I just paid for our park n fly. Have never used it before, but it will save us over $50. Ever penny counts when you head to Disney.
I watched the entire 2009 Disney dvd today. Wow...that actually had a ton on information on it. Made my DD even more excited about the rides. Hard to explain them to a 4 year old, so actually seeing them was great. Wish they had some information on dining. I think the quick service is a good idea for us...not into all the reservations and being on a schedule. Of course there are soooo many places we would love to try. Have to plan another vacation as soon as we get back. Actually we already are, but that Disneyland 2010. We have to go home and see my family, too!
So does anyone have any great photos of Wilderness Lodge? Want to see the pool and quick service food area?
So the ice is finally melting...still feel so bad for all the vehicles in the ditch on I35 and pray all were ok!
How many days until the sun shines and the ice melts?

Thanks for the advice. I think we will pass on the hopper. If we want to go back we can always go back to the same resort or just relax at the hotel like mentioned. So we got into CRT and CM exactly when we wanted. I was so totally excited. Forgot that Sunday is going to be Mothers Day while we are there. Not sure if the parks will be extra busy or not. We were planning AK for that day. Just need to think about some reservations. Maybe Boma that night? Any suggestions??? popcorn::
Hey!! I didn't realize you had at PTR! We are staying at AKL now instead of Pop and I told DH that I really want to eat at Boma for mothers day. I just thought that was funny because you mentioned you might go that day too. It is such good food. It is freshly made food and it's not on a steam tray thing. Does that make sense? The kitchen and chefs are right in behind the buffet and constantly putting out fresh food. The food is awesome and definitely not like normal buffet food. There are also kid friendly foods too so if you decide to eat there don't worry. You'll all find something you like. And for dessert there are so many yummy things, including zebra domes!! They are just so awesome.
We're eating at Chef Mickey on friday May 9.

Yay!!! You decided to go to Boma on Sunday. I don't know what time we are planning to ADRs though. That day we are going to Epcot and then probably coming back mid afternoon for a nap and eating around 8. That's what schedule Tyson is on right now so hopefully it will stay the same. He usually falls asleep between 4 and 5 pm and sleeps until 7. We eat between 7 and 8. I think it's best to stay on his schedule. Do you think it's ok to eat that late if we already do that at home?
Your family is adorable!! Your kids are just gorgeous.

Hello, you had pm'd me about meals. Either I have lots of great advice, or I am just wordy (perhaps the later lol) SO I thought I would c&p here if you don't mind.
Hi! The biggest factors for us was the cost. Seemed like (esp for 4) that it was pretty expensive. You could average about $8 or so per person on average. I just didn't want to spend that much. Sure, I could have let my kids have a free for all with food and let them pick what they wanted. But I just couldnt. lol Thats a lot of money!
So, Let's see. We stayed at the ASmovies. Not sure where you are planning on staying. For here we would get the burgers. I could get the dbl cheese burger and get and extra bun. They have a little condiments bar with lettuce and pickles and...tomatoes I think. So it filled us up lots. The refillable mugs, GREAT purchase. You can also get coffee, hot chocolate (rich and smooth, not watery), and I drank a lot of pink lemonade. We were just saying how it'd be nice to have some now. ;) The kids just shared a kids meal. It was plenty for them both. Again, our son loves lettuce for some reason...and will munch on tomatoes. So those are some filling points. ANd I would generally get a chocolate or reg milk...again, filling and much needed nurtrition! :) I noticed you are staying at WL, Im sure burgers are offered, they seem to be a staple everywhere in DW. lol
Ok, I'm trying to trace my tracks on vacation. Epcot-We were NOT impressed with Electric Umbrella. Not much variety at all. We ate (I think it was called Sunshine Seasons) and there was lots to choose from. The kids chose a kids meal (mini sub, applesauce, grapes and milk I believe) and I had a kids meal that was from the asian booth (plenty of food really!) and DH had the same as the kids. We also were shocked to find a garden side salad for $2.50 (or so..) which we all shared. It was plenty.
Magic Kingdom-We had an 805 Crystal Palace reservation. Best reservation ever! The food was awesome, the characters were great! It was decently cheap (For DW!!) and was really great! I will want to do this one again! MK is gorgeous this time of day. We also ate at Cassey's Corner. It is a hot dog place. Not super cheap, but it was yummy. Seating was a slight issue. Again, lots of condiments, and what child doesn't like a hot dog? ;) Very yummy! Another time we had a turkey leg and cream cheese filled pretzel. I didn't like neither. I eat anything, I didn't care for either of these. I knew I wouldnt like the turkey leg, I heard it was like ham, and it is. lol Im not a ham person. DH and Ds and dd gobbled it up though! SLUSHIES! What a great treat to cool everyone off. A great spot for slushies is over by the Aladdin's carpets. it's behind it by the bazaar. It's a nice little retreat,a nd as we were sitting, Aladding nad Jasmin came out...it was a character spot! We had some great time with them! Really great!! :) I can't believe we forgot to try a dole whip...and I know you have heard it before, but you will never get to do everything youw ant. It's unbelievable, but true! Ok, also, we ate at Pecos Bills. I highly recommend this place. They have an awesome condiments bar. Again the with teh dbl burger and extra bun. ALSO! I highly suggest, the Spectromagic parade is awesome! We saw it twice, your dd will LOVE it! We always saw it down near frontierland (close to Pecos Bills) My suggestion, 30 mins prior to the show, get seats right outside the Pecos doors. It's a great angle to see the parade from! We didn't realise this in time, but next time we go, that is where we will sit! Ok, again another tid bit. If you are at Pecos Bills at fireworks time. (believe it or not we didn't go right to the castle for the fireworks at all..a shock that I was fine with this, but it is best to be easy going than not lemme tell ya! lol) If you are at Pecos, sit at the tables outside (on the side of pecos bills) and way over to the uncovered area. Its the furthest sets of tables you can go to. You will be able to see the fireworks. :)
Hollywood Studios-Not as much selection and variety. We bought a salted pretzel...SO GROSS. DOn't buy them. Now Im trying to think of the little spot we got our lunch. I believe it was right at the beginning of Sunset BLVD. The street you go down to tower of terror. It is a sandwich place. DH and I got this whoppin' ham sandwich with chips, the kids got the PB&J sandwhich combo. Applesauce and grapes (their faves at this point) ANd we got a big sticky bun to all share for dessert. It came to a little over $20 Which is good. if it doesn't hit $30, you are doing very well! ;)
AK-We only did a half a day here. It was so crowded and we were tired and cranky. We did get some onion rings at Flamming tree. They were huge and very yummy. :)
Downtown Disney- ok, this sounds silly. We are from New Brunswick Canada. We were actually missing our home, and snow, and our Christmas spirit so much by this point we were ready to head home early (which we should have since we got caught in 2 snow storms..but anyway) We did DTD 2 times. Great place! Loved it! We found a McDonalds. We were so happy. It was our comfort food. Not super cheap, but better than the parks. AND we didn't have to share. Kids got happy meals, with a toy. They were HAPPY! We will be doing this McDonalds again. We also did the imfamous T-Rex. It was nice. Different. We actually met a good friend from Miss. there. We struck up a friendship on here months back and we got to meet! :) Food was good! Not super cheap, but it was a treat for us.
OH YES! We did Chef Mickeys breakfast. It was good! Great for the kids to get that one on one time with the characters so we didnt have to really do it in the parks. Love the contemporary. Hopefully we will stay there next time. I did prefer the food a little more at Crystal Palace. Which at both places I grabbed a few pieces of whole fruit and put it in my back pack. Bananas, Apples, oranges. If the kids got hungry at any one point and we werent near a food station (which could only possibly be at AK as food is everywhere in the other parks) it was a great resource to have!!
Ok, there we have it. I think I got it all in. lmao! SOrry for it being so long!
Also, I wanted to say. I was going into our vacation wanting the DLX DP. Then the Canadian dollar dropped by about .18 cents and the math didnt add up at all. I wanted to be free of worries about money or anything, but i soon realized our money was better in our pockets than spent at DW. We saved a lot of money by going CS with a cpl sit downs. i was stubborn and didn't believe anybody when they told me this though. lol Now, We did try a side at the Moroccan pavillion and they were $2.50. I wanted to try some things exotic. It was interesting. DS loved it. Also, we could get individually wrapped french chocolates (across from the french bakery which was expensive enough). OH! We also ate from the CS at the UK Pavillion. Fish and chips. Wasn't a huge portion. 2 did us all since ds wasn't willing to eat. Japan's store...at the very back... has some great litle candies, lots of variety, most are cently priced. And we also got a rice krspie square (huge) for about $3 I think in NOrway. Lots for all 4 of us. :)
I can post some pics of food here for ya if you would like. They are slowly being added to photobucket.
I really hope this helps! I SO can't wait to go back, but other things like selling our house should come first. lol :) Have a great time, enjoy your vacation!!! THe kids will LOVE it!! (Best rides at MK was Philarmagic, PeterPan, dd loves carousels..so ya know... but definitely do the 3D shows. I was against them, but so worth going to check out! ANd stay away from the Hunny I shrunk the kids park at Hollywood studios. It was crazy busy, as independant as my dd (close to 3 yrs) is she got lost...we were with her, then she went down a slide with her brother and he took off...I just...don't recommend it for little kids!! It scared me a little in there ...it is manned one way in and out, but still!)
ok, ok, I promise IM done my rambling. lol

I agree cs can be a good way to go, but for me it's ddpall the way!!I love the break from the parks in a comfy restaurant it just recharges me !!Also we have big eaters and splitting a kids meal wouldnot work !! I think the QS option might be worth looking at too while it is almost $30 a day for adults it's a lot cheaper for kids so for about $70 a day you would get 2 cs and 2 snax plus a mug!!

I do agree, if you can do the rest in the restaurants and such, and you aren't dealing with this bad Canadian dollar, then I would consider the dining plan. This way we allieviate the stress of everyone sharing. Plus with your little guy being under 2 he gets everything for free (he wouldn't be included in the dp, but Im sure everyone's meals is plenty enough) What was hard for us is that we took afternoon breaks (except for at Hollywood studios) which were really a necessity for the late nights and such. THe buses, albeit we never had horrifying experiences, just ate up too much time. Hence why I would love to do Contemporary resort next time. It's along the monorail, there are restaurants at Poly and Grand Floridian we can explore, along with the parks.
Anyhoo... do what you feel comfortable with. What you can afford. :) SEe, when our dollar plummited... for $1000 we got $780 american dollars. So it was hard to justify getting the dp, plus the tips on top of it all. Hopefully next time though, hopefully!!

Your son's name reminds me of what a nurse asked me when I was pregnant with my youngest. My sons names are Tyler and Dallas, she asked me if I had another one was I going to name him Austin? I told her "probably not, but I am kinda partial to Houston"................:lmao:

ohhhhhhhhhhhh you will be leaving our first full day there. We will drive in on Friday, it takes us about 7-8 hours, and just chillin' Friday night because we will not get there until about 10pm. Our first full day will be Saturday the 16th.
We stayed at POR in 2002. We didn't care for it too much because we were wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back on the property and the walk to buses and the food court was at least 20 minutes, or 100 miles as Dallas said..........:rotfl:.

Yeah...I know when the May hours come out. Sounds like Feb. 1st. I may totally be changing on my plans. We shall see. We have been home with sick kids for the last 2 days. Ugh. Plus it is 20 below without the wind chill factor. I am sure tomorrow will make 4 days in a row that school is canceled. We are going to be going into June this year. I will try and post some photos of all the snow. We got another 6 inches again last night. There is well over 4 feet on the ground.

That will help having the hours. I always end up changing everything.
We lived in the DC area for awhile and got 3 ft in one weekend. I enjoyed it. Luckily it hit Friday night and continued into Sunday, so made a nice weekend that got extended when everything was closed Monday. Please post pics, I do love the snow.
I can't imagine that wind chill though.

So I found zazzle thanks to another diser. Looks like a great way to make t-shirts for our 1st trip. I also just got done ordering Red Mickey luggage, a red disney fleece pullover and a Troy cup for DD (Valentines). Can't wait. We had been looking for luggage forever and it was on sale for $49.99. Plus I got free shipping, too!
So now I am thinking about doing Epcot 2 times. We really want to eat at Biergarten and Marrakesh. We were going to take a day off from the parks, so we could just go one night and do dinner and relax during the day.
Hopefully we can hook up for a May meet as well? :grouphug:

I've never been to Biergarten but I loved Marrakesh. On the last trip we decided to change our last day to Epcot instead of DHS. We went up to guest relations near spaceship earth. We wanted ADRs for lunch and dinner. For lunch we went to Marrakesh and dinner was at Tokyo Dining. We definitely loved both. Marrakesh actually had a lunch special which including an appetizer, entree, and dessert for less than 15 dollars. DH and I both got it. The appetizer was a cucumber salad but I don't remember anything else. The belly dancer was very entertaining.

You got some great stuff. I bet the Mickey luggage is adorable. When we signed up for our Disney Visa we got a set of red Mickey luggage for free!! I love it. The only problem is that it looks just like everyone else's luggage at Disney. I saw so many people with the same one. I'm probably just going to put luggage tags on it, just in case. But normally we just bring in our own luggage. I can't remember if they let you do that at AKL though. Of course you can at the values.
I'm glad you'll get to go to both of the restaurants!

I just found your pre-trip report and wanted to say "Hi" :wave2: We are also going to Disney for the very first time in May. We will be there May 2-10 and staying at POP.
One of my best friends lives in Winterset, Iowa. We were lucky enough to go visit with her a few years ago, and went to the Covered Bridge Festival in Madison County. We stayed in West Des Moines.
Sooo sorry that your being hit with the COLD temps like that - it is nice here, in the upper 60's, we just got back from a day at the park.
Anyway, love hearing all the plans for your up-coming trip! We also have ressies for Cinderella's Royal Table (on the 8th) & Chef Mickeys (on the 3rd). Now just waiting for those May hours to be released! Oh yeah, I also ordered that red Mickey luggage from disneyshopping.com, and have been buying the kids Disney clothes & putting them back for the trip (so you are definitely not alone, lol) My hubby doesn't understand my weird Disney obsession ..... thank goodness for everyone here on the DIS ..... all the planning makes time fly by faster. :)

How nice of you to come visit. My friends came here for my wedding and said never again. It was about 95 with 100% humidity. Hmm! The bridges are super great to go look at...it was really sad someone started burning them down a few years ago.
I wondered about the luggage. I will just have to get some neon green luggage tags and make them stand out. It was too good a deal to pass up, though!
Thanks for the advice on the ressies...can't wait until we can make them. That means its my birthday and a Sunday morning, so I am going to have to get up or get my TA to get up bright and early. Then again who am I kidding my DD and DS do not know what sleeping in means.

Hi everyone. So Jenners and I are going to venture the 1 hour trip this weekend to Target. We are going to get stuff to make a 100 day countdown for WDW. She is so excited...we have been planning this trip since before I got prego with Austin and he is almost 9 months now. Wow! Hopefully the weather stays warm enough to go. Can you believe less than 2 weeks and we can make our ADR's. I am so excited. Still hoping the May calendar shows up Feb. 1st. I totally need to learn how to do that spreadsheet thing. Looks awesome!!! Well I should get going...since everyone is sleeping. Need to start my big weight loss plan tomorrow. 3 months and 30 lbs to go...:drive:

DD and I started a countdown at the 3 month mark. We didn't do anything spectacular but she still gets a kick out of it. We went and bought a Disney calendar and went through and marked the days. Every night before she goes to bed she marks off the day and every morning she tells me how many we have left. Have fun!! I'm crossing my fingers for ya that the May hours come out soon!!:thumbsup2

I found out today that a girl I used to work with and was pregnant with got some very horrible news. Her little girl Ava has a tumor in her abdomen...she is only 11 months old. If you could just say a little prayer...we need a miracle here. Maybe if enough people pray we can :angel:get it. If you would like to see Ava go to caringbridge.com and type avaswift. Thank you!!!

So background....when we made our original and I mean original reservations AKL only had savannah rooms and that was way too much. So we went with WL. Then we had a mishap with our flights and had to adjust our dates. WL wasn't available so our TA put us at POFQ (my choice). I haven't been in love with the idea...so I have been doing some checking around. Found out AKL was now available for our dates, with a pool view. Same as what we were paying at WL originally. So we are switching. "hopefully" Waiting on the final confirmation. I love the queen beds, dining choices, zero depth entry pool and just the photos in general. What a beautiful hotel. WL is so similar to the woods up north...that it may have felt too much like home. Plus my DD is loving all the kids activites we have been reading about that take place at the AKL. Off to this food photo thread I have so much about. If I can find it????:drive:

Just found your PTR and enjoying your planning so far! I remember reading that your son is having his birthday while you are there. My daughter will also be celebrating her birthday (12th) while we are there. I don't think you mentioned taking advantage of the "What are you Celebrating" promotion. Make sure you do!!! Have your TA let Disney know the birthday date and they will do something special for your son at the hotel. (We are also staying at AKL). And because you have bought your park tickets as part of your package, you can't take advantage of the free park ticket but you can pick from a couple of other things. You can get a Disney gift card worth the same amount as a one day park pass or you can get a Magical Fast pass for one park for up to 5 people that you can use on the birthday day. You do have to register your son ahead of time on the Disney website to get this though. Check it out and see if it works for you!

Hi there!
Followed the link in your sig after reading your post on my PTR.
I laughed reading through as I saw all the changes you made, you are just like me, always changing resorts, ADR's and dining plan decisions.
Looks like I am the last one to get back in town in our photopass share. I promise to be speedy and get my pictures uploaded right away so you can order that cd. :thumbsup2

I know...I am the worst. I plan and plan. This is the 1st trip where I have been able to change hotels 4 times. POFQ to WL to Poly to AKL. Although I must admit we only ended up at AKL, because Poly was not available and WL only had the expensive rooms. I am not into paying for views. Although I have since fallen in love with AKL. The rooms, the views, the food, etc. Hopefully it lives up to my expectations.
So I hear the bath calling my name. I am tired of football already. Hey is that basketball I smell in the air. I love college sports...Go USC!!!Just not a fan of professional sports, except Nascar.
I need to add a photo later. We gave Austin a tiny cupcake tonight for the 1st time and even his toes got into the frosting. Oh my!!!:laundy:

It's the beginning of many years ahead of devouring mass quantities of food! My boys (big boys, that is) can be eating sandwiches while they're standing over my shoulder asking what I'm fixing for dinner. Later in the evening, after dinner is finished and the kitchen has been cleaned up, I can hear the sounds of scavengers back in the refrigerator or cabinets looking for an evening snack. I do not know where they put it, because they do not have an ounce of fat on their bones!
Congratulations on getting some of your meals finalized. Just knowing that you have those ADRs settled must make it seem closer and more real. We've eaten at several of your choices - Chef Mickey's, 'Ohana, Tony's, LeCellier, and PrimeTime, and we've enjoyed them all.

Looks like everything is coming together for you. Great choices! For us it was so hard to choose where to eat not having ever been there. We based a lot on menus. I won't base my decision solely on a review because everyone has such different tastes. It was mind boggling for me going into planning this trip thinking Disney (meaning castle, characters, rides, smiling kids - and adults:) ) and then realizing that choosing your dining seem to almost be the most important part in planning. My DH kept asking "What, are we going just to eat?"

So as everyone knows we put our house on the market. We are total penny pinchers when it comes to make down payments. So my DH was having a hard time justifying our trip to WDW. Ugh! SOOOOO....
We decided to downgrade to the Pop. It saved us over a thousand dollars that we can use towards our next house.
I am so sad, but I am sure the Pop will be great. I don't know anything about it...so for all you Pop lovers out there help fill me in. :surfweb:

We have stayed at Pop 3 times and loved it every time! Honestly, the only reason we are staying at the Poly this time is because of the 4/3 deal. There is no way I'd pay full price just to stay at the Poly! Anyway, your family will love the Pop! It is a fun resort with great pools and a great food court. There will be plenty of kids at the pool for Jenny to play with and Austin will love the kiddie pool, he'll be able to crawl/walk around in there all by himself. The bus system is great. The only time you'll have to wait is when you're leaving a park at closing, then the buses get crowded and full fast, but there is always another bus on it's way! Being your first trip, the only time you'll be in the room is to sleep anyways. Some days you probably won't even come back to the resort in the afternoon because the kids will just nap in the stroller. Besides, next time, when you have settled into your new home, you can plan another trip and stay mod. or deluxe or do what we do...rent points from a DVC member and stay in a villa for the price of a mod! I guess what I'm trying to say is, YOU'RE GOING TO DISNEY FOR THE 1st TIME!!! :yay: Anywhere you stay will be magical! Hope this puts you at ease!

I like the value resorts. It's where we always stay so I like them. I've only stayed at Sports and Movies so I don't really know anything about Pop. However, I did lots of research on it and I was so excited to stay there but Brad and I got the AKL bug. LOL I keep having major second thoughts because it would be $1600 for Pop with 8 day PH tickets and the dining plan. At AKL it's $2500. OMG that's $1000 less. I told Brad but he said AKL is what he is looking forward to the most. Here's some pros for staying at POP.
-You will save $1000
-The theme is awesome with bright colors and huge icons. The kids will love it.
-Compared to Allstar, you aren't sharing buses with 2 other values.
-More money for special treats and merchandise if you want it.
-The pools look really fun!!
-They do games and stuff at the pool for the kids.
-It's a smaller resort which in my opinion means less walking, less people on the buses, in the CS, etc.
That's some of the pros from my list. LOL

I LOVE the Pop Century. The service we had there was just as good as the Poly... and the mousekeeping was actually better! It is such a fun resort, IMO the pictures don't do it justice. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. It truly feels like Disney. The food court is awesome... we definitely missed it on the last trip! And there are so many fun photo opportunities. Plus 3 large pools! I think you'll have a great time at the POP.:goodvibes

Hi Here's my 2 cents !! I will be staying at Pop for the 3rd time in May! There is a Pop Century Thead on the resorts board that in the first post is just about evrything you want to know about Pop!!I have stayed in the 60's and the 50's ! Loved thm both !! The 60's poolis Hippy Hoppy poolad is closest to the fodcourt !! Thee is apingpong table you have to buy balls right there!! Te 70's has Goofy's Jet Streams which are fun forthe kids , 50's poolis th bowling pin and over in 80/90's is the Computor pool!!There is a pathway round back by the lake .The food court is great, lotsof good choices my fav is chicken alfredo !!The refillable mug drinks include slushies. The buses were great !!Rooms are alittle smaller than mods and only full size beds but wehd no problms !!You migt want to check to see if you can get ona fridge swap !!Hope I helped some !!

I think you will like POP. Look at MeMom's trip report... she takes tons of picture of POP and it always looks so great. We stayed there and enjoyed it, and since the kids are small the rooms won't be that crowded. Plus spending $$$ on a house is a forever expense, WDW is a week, so I totally support putting the money toward a house!

I hope your still as excited about your trip. I'm sure POP will be great. We're staying at all star movies! Because we're a family of 6 (7 with my Mom) we'll probably always do the value resorts. I think the kids will be just as happy.. If not happier with all of the BIG stuff around the hotel. And saving a thousand dollars, that sounds good.

So when we went to Pop we went to the quick service plan, too. We really don't want reservations with our kids and if we come back to Pop and want to stay that is ok. We can do the food court there a lot. BUT when I went to cancel a few ressies...the CM canceled them all. UGH!!! I only noticed because I got credit for CRT which we made months ago. Yesterday a supervisor had to do some fancy footwork to get us back into CRT, BBB and Crystal Palace. We are paying OOP for those. Alls well now, though. We actually got a better time at CRT and BBB!!! Plus the same time at Crystal Palace. Can't wait!!! I need to figure out how many days until our trip. We have been neglecting our countdown calendar this week. Jenny is on a High School Musical 3 countdown. It arrives at our door Tuesday!!!popcorn::

As you know we had to downgrade also. :sad2: You will love Disney so much and as previous posters have said, with this being your first trip you won't spend much time in the room anyway. We've stayed at value resorts before and loved them. The theming is really cute for kids. Some of our best pictures from previous trips were with our little ones next to the oversized dalmations, tv's, etc. You are doing the right thing and are sure to have more fun that you can even imagine.
BTW, I hate to fly also. Maybe this year I will make myself a goodie bag for myself....:lmao:

I think you will like POP. Look at MeMom's trip report... she takes tons of picture of POP and it always looks so great. We stayed there and enjoyed it, and since the kids are small the rooms won't be that crowded. Plus spending $$$ on a house is a forever expense, WDW is a week, so I totally support putting the money toward a house!
Thanks so much I am going there right now....
Happy Valentines Day Everyone!!! Remember to tell those you love how much you love them!!! :cloud9:

You will love Pop! It is so fun and vibrant that it will definitely feel like a true Disney vacation. Make sure you try the tie-dyed cheesecake, the frozen cokes, and don't miss the nightly dancing in the food court. We stayed there in October, 2007 and loved it. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

I'll check out your stroller swap... I think we're going to do park strollers - hopefully just a single for the boys to take turns because the double is so expensive! But a swap could be tempting. :goodvibes

I'd be happy to send Jenny a letter! Send me a PM with your address!! Let me know your CRT & BBB date and any other details you want added in the letter! You might want to check out this website too: https://secure.uvoxnetworks.com/disney/affhome.html?affno=66. You can have one of the princesses call her before you leave.

My brother lives in Kissimmee and he sends postcards to my girls. I talked to him just yesterday and said he would be happy to do it again. He also said if I had any friends that would be interested to let him know. He gets a kick out of doing it. If you'd like a postcard with her favorite character and a short message postmarked from Orlando just let me know. He wouldn't mind a bit. You can PM me.

We are a very sleepy family. We all nap. I am in bed most nights by 8 when I am not on the computer.
I am trying to tell myself I don't have a cold. Its not really working!
I had acupuncture today and she did my sinuses so maybe that will help. Any cure methods out there? I am trying to get well before Saturday!!!
I am glad to we got some takes on the stroller swap. Hopefully I can find some for July to help fill the gaps.

Did you have a chance to check out that Pop Century Pictures thread?
I would like to go to bed at eight, but the way I sleep, that means I'd be up for good at midnight or one. That would be no good at all!
I hope you feel better soon.

I am slowly feeling better. Lots of vitamin C, antibotics (sinus infection) and zyrtec.
I am going to sign off tonight and go watch 17 kids and counting!!!
I did find the Pop photo thread, but my computer is so slow it takes too long to open all those photos. The resort looks great, though. Hope we can get a room close to the food and bus stop!!! Any advice?

I am just catching back up :surfweb:. For a few days my registration was all messed up. Go figure. Anyway, I am glad you are feeling better . I am soooooo hoping we all stay well.
I see that you changed to Pop. I would downgrade myself if there wasn't 6 of us. We will be cooking alot in the cabin, but I would much rather save the money on the rooms. We are just there to sleep.
I rented a double stroller for Dallas until he was 6. His asthma was the main reason. Walking long distances was hard on him. It is better now so it has been 4 years since we renter a stroller. Good thing too with the prices now :scared1:.

Trust me...not mine either. I had night terrors until I was in middle school. The last scary movie I saw was What you did last summer. By the way I hated Friday the 13th. I kept my eyes covered through out the movie. Even worse it takes place at Crystal Lake. Which is a lake right by our house. I am never going camping again!!!

On Pop rooms the 60's are pretty close to the pool and foodcourt, while the 70's are closer to buses but not bad for foodcourt!550's are pretty close to pool and food court too ! I have bn in prefered 60's and standard 50's which was quite far from the f ood court etc ! but was so quiet and scenicI didn't mind !!Take a lok at the resort map on th Pop thread to se what I mean !! On another topic wil you be giving me all the details on photopass . I need it spelled out carefully!!Last time DD handled the editing etc !

You saw Friday the 13th?:scared1:
My friend tried to convince me to see it with her, telling me it wasn't a horror movie since she knows I hate them. I'm guessing it was?:rotfl: The first horror movie I saw was one of the Halloween movies. It absolutely terrified me and I've hated them since then!

OMGosh! I just finished Jenny's "Royal Invitation" from Cinderella. I'm not going to give you too many details, but it is SOOOOOO CUTE! Instead of just sending her a letter, I had Cinderella send her an invitation to BBB & lunch at CRT. She mentions how she can't wait to meet Jenny and is looking forward to seeing Jenny in her Belle dress. I hope she loves it! It's going in the mail tomorrow!princess:

Awe...I can't wait. I am going to ship the packages first thing next week. I have a girls trip this weekend and the weather (knock on wood) looks good for the 1st time in 4 years. Yeah! Can't wait to go to a Disney Store...Mall of America here I come!!!

Aww, I want to go! LOL I hope you have so much fun. One day I hope I'll get to go to the Mall of America. I'll say a little extra prayer that the weather is nice!!
Pop was my original ressie before I upgraded to CSR (then downgraded back to pop LOL). I don't know about the closeness but what I got from the FAQ thread was to request a 4th floor lakeside room that way you can see fireworks somewhat well and its a quiet room. Quietness is what matters most to me! But if you check out the FAQ thread it will tell you which rooms are best for closeness to busses/food court/etc.
Anyway just wanted to say that even though you had to downgrade I am super stoked that you guys will be there when we are!! And we are pretty much there the same times!
