OK! I’m ready to start my TR. I’ve got photos uploaded, the Photopass pix are on their way, and I’ve got a ton of notes.
If you want to read the FULL introduction, click HERE (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=25129435#post25129435)for the PTR. Or click HERE (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25133732&postcount=2) for just MY intro.
The WHEN: Oct. 8th-14th 2008
The WHAT: Our first family vacation. As in, just us four! Nobody else.
The WHY: Because mom is Disney-obsessed. Because it’d been 2 years since the last vacation. Because we had a 4 day weekend, so why not?
The WHERE: The World, baby!
The WHO: Our little family.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2007-7/1271002/me.jpgI am Julia, 31, a medical assistant. Last vacation was in April of 2006 on my first trip to Disneyland w/DD and the in-laws. Many wonderful magical moments with that trip. Many wishes of do-overs and things we would do differently that I hoped to rectify w/this trip. For example, we didn’t see Fantasmic. We saw no shows. We saw few characters. We did no in-resort or character dining. Did we do these things on this trip?
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2007-7/1271002/WLQTW-DaddyDaughter07.jpgDH. Jim, 28, a cable installation tech. Last vacation was in Florida to Sanibel/Captiva w/DS and in-laws. They skipped our Disney vaca to do the Florida one. We couldn’t do Florida because I had just graduated school and was setting out on my job hunt as soon as I got back. Has been to WDW just once before- back when there was just MK and Epcot. His P’s believe in hitting the big attractions, eating outside the parks, and staying off-site. He wasn’t very excited about this trip. So…. Did he have fun? Does he want to come back ever again? Did he “catch the magic?”
DD. Rae (Rachael). 5. Disneyland vet. 1st visit to WDW. Lover of all things princesses, Hannah Montana, and HSM. Very excited to introduce big brother to the wonders of Disney and to find out if Tigger, Eeyore, and Pooh remembered her. Also if Minnie remembered her as well. So….did she see those characters? Did Minnie remember Miss Rachael?
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2007-7/1271002/ebrayaug07.jpg
DS. Ebin. 6. SOOOOOOOOO excited for this first Disney experience. Really wanted to see L! M! A!. Ride Rock’n’RollerCoaster. Ride Tower-of-Terror. Meet Mickey & Minnie. Watched all my geek-y Disney shows with me before we left. The DVC dvd. The History Channel’s “Modern Marvels:Disney World”. The Travel Channel’s Sam Brown specials. All of ‘em. I had a feeling that of all the family, DS would be the one to catch my Disney spirit the most. Did he see L!M!A!, did he meet those characters? Ride those rides? Cry during anything?

Ok, so I had written a long entry for Chapter 1 and lovely DH lost it. :headache:
So I'll have to sum it up cuz I have a lot to do today and want to keep this moving to get to Chapter 2 later- which is with pictures and the real story telling begins.
I got off work on Wed., Oct. 8th at 4. A lovely co-worker let me go an hour early and took care of the remaining patient on the schedule for me. I was able to get the last minute items packed, the food ready, and the floors vacuumed. The kids rooms straightened up as well.
DH got home from work about 5 and immediately began packing what he deemed the most important- the electronics! :snooty: 2 laptops, the DS, the PSP, phones & chargers, etc., etc....
The kids arrived during this time via DS's mom (he's actually my step-son, and they keep DD after school most days until we get home-- yes, we all get along... it took years... another thread entirely...:sad2: ). They were WIIIIRED! :jumping1: Holy smokes were they excited.
By the time we coralled everyone into the car and turned off the lights and locked the doors, it was 5:50pm. :drive:
The kids were very good on the ride. We had my parent's Town & Country so it was a comfortable ride w/DVD player :happytv: as well as all our electronics from home. DH and I took turns while the other slept. We stopped for restroom breaks and gas. Ate food packed in the car.
After :car: 1,249 miles, we arrived to Kissimmee at around 2:30CST, which is 3:30 in Disney Time. Stay tuned for Chapter 2! :goodvibes

Wow Julia! That is some drive! We drove it from Virginia in November and it was about 12 hours (supposed to be 11, but we hit some traffic) but I think if we did it again, we would attempt the through the night thing! It would be nice to save the money from airfare (plus I hate to fly :scared1: ), so it would suit me! Shawn....not so much.:sad2: But he could get over it, right? He would probably tell me "you drive with the kids, and I'll meet you!" And then jump on a plane! :rolleyes1
He sounds a lot like your DH - electronics, electronics, electronics...
Can't wait to hear about your first "real" day at Disney World! :dance3:

I hate that drive. We are in Indiana so I know how long it can take for that ride. We usually fly because of the timing...but if prices keep going up I can forsee a time when we will be driving again.
Electronics....must be a man thing..:rotfl: My DH is the same way...PSP, DS for DS, DVD, phones, chargers and of course the lap top....and that is just for a couple hour drive....I have been banned from taking "my" laptop with me since he is not going....he asked me to leave it at home for him so he is not as he puts it.."tied to the desktop."
I an excited to read chapter 2 and see your pics of the world.!!

Yuck. I thought our 16 hour drive was bad. We also drive all night, and it works well for us, and we usually don't get lost until we get to Orlando. One of these days we'll figure it out! Looking forward to hearing more, and seeing some pictures.:thumbsup2

Oh yes, you never go anywhere without the electronics.
Gotta love those DVD players for a long trip. That is a lifesaver!
Whoever came up with that was genius. However, whoever came up with controlling headphone capability through a remote that could get lost was an idiot.
Yayyy a chapter! Kudos to making that long of a drive in one shot but what i think is even more impressive is that the kids lasted that long! I know they were sleeping and stuff but still, thats a long drive for them too. Looking forward to more :goodvibes

By the end of the drive home, the kids were bored with all their options though, I must say.... :sad2:

So after hitting about an HOUR of torrential downpour rain on the way into Orlando, we FINALLY arrived into Orlando.
We stopped at the first McDonald's we saw, because we were starving, and I was super annioyed with that hour of driving. It turned out to be a motorcycle-themed McDonald's with a HUGE children's play area/arcade.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ArrivalWDW001.jpg
The arcade games were played with a card that you preloaded with credits. The kids took turns with the credits, collected tickets, fed them into a machine, and came away with a few little prizes they picked out. Very preferable to some snotty kid behind a ticket prize counter, IMO. Also, we left w/two tickets and the re-loadable card, which is a nice little souvie for the scrapbook. :thumbsup2
We let them play as long as they like, as they had been SO GOOD in the car.
This McDonald's is the one at 5400 S. Kirkman Rd., here is there website: CLICK HERE (http://www.mcfun.com/restaurants/view/8). I really recommend it. We ate usual fare, but it was nice to see healthier options on the menu as well.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ArrivalWDW004.jpg
After that, we headed to the hotel. The Clarion Maingate.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ClarionHotel.jpg
The kids were SO EXCITED. You could stay at any hotel and they would be SO EXCITED.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ArrivalWDW008.jpg
As many of you know, I was REALLY not happy with this hotel originally. I had a ton in mind, but decided on a whim to do Priceline. I secured this room for $40 a night. So, it was a place to sleep. With research, I was happy to find out it was close to the parks, could easily access World Drive via a shortcut through the parking lot behind the hotel, and had a fridge and microwave. :thumbsup2
HOWEVER, upon check in, despite having confirmed said microwave and fridge by phone two weeks earlier, I was informed that those were not available with Priceline bookings, unless I wanted to pay an addt'l $10 a night. :headache: Not unreasonable, however, I just wanted to get settled, and save that $40 for souvies, kwim? So DH and I decided that we prolly wouldn't eat in the room even WITH those amenities, and keep the cooler loaded with ice. :confused3
The room itself was fine. Two fulls though, and after DS woke up 1/2-way through the night the first night and joined DH and I, I switched sleeping arrangements to Mom/DD, and Dad/DS. Much roomier for me, not so much for DH.
Here's the hotel/room, in case your interested.

............................CONT'D................ .....................
After settling into our room, we headed to Downtown Disney!
According to my visual itinerary, we were going to TRY to maybe do the Boardwalk or Poly for fireworks for this first night. However, I'd noted on the way down that I'd never squeezed in Downtown Disney ANYWHERE, and since I'd heard it was way bigger & better than DLR's could ever dream... I really wanted to see the mega-ness of World of Disney, as well as Pin Traders, etc.
So when DH suggested DtD... I was excited! Especially since he had any suggestion at ALL, I thought, OK, maybe he's getting into the spirit of this! :goodvibes
Here we are in front of a topiary. Now, who can tell me, is this Pooh w/a honey pot or Mickey pouring out something? This was great debate between the kids, DH and I.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/DtD2.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/DtD1.jpg
Ok, so first-timers opinion of Downtown Disney..... erm....a shopper's mecca. LOL.
In "Once Upon a Toy", the kids experienced Magic Moments #1 and #2. They walked in and began playing with Mr. Potato Head parts immediately. The cast members saw them and said, "Whatcha doin?" and they said, "Seeing who can make the silliest Potato Head." and they asked DD and DS to be JUDGES in a contest between the cast members! :goodvibes :goodvibes So, as judges, they not only picked the "winner" but they also got certificate keepsakes, and got to pick out a pin each! Rach picked out Cinderella reading a book, and Ebin picked out Stitch on Space Mountain!
Here they are with their certificates:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/DtD3.jpg
Now, while they were doing this, I was at the Pin Cart outside the store. I really enjoyed the Pin cart. I had never seen so many different designs ever. I really hummed and hawed about this. I wasn't trading- but collecting on my first lanyard. I agonized. I picked out some pins for myself, DD, and DS. Not for DH because he wasn't doing pin-trading or collecting. Now, when I asked him months before we left if he wanted to get a lanyard and some starter pins, you shoulda seen the look he gave me. :scared: Rember that for later. :rolleyes1 I'll show you what we got in the "Souvies" section at the end. ;) Gotta keep you hanging, somehow, right?
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/DtD4.jpg
I didn't get to enjoy "World of" so much, as the kids were excitedly pulling me in a million directions. Guess that's one for a future trip.... ;) Ebin picked out souvies for his little brother and his maternal grandpa back home. Jim bought a $6 beer. :scared1: I picked up a pin for my best gal pal at work and a pen for another nurse at work who'd let me pixie-dust myself daily with her Disneyland pen for the last 8 mos. I was mulling over the many mickey-handled kitchen-tools at "Everything 10 or less" when DH dragged us out of there. :headache:
I forgot to mention, that after the Potato Head contest, the kids discovered the wonder that is the make-your-own-light-saber station. Which, to the tune of $21.50 each, was DH's dream toy. He managed to hornswaggle Rachael into thinking she wanted one too. This is magic moment #2. When they were checking out, the cast member told them they got to pick out Sith or Jedi pins! Rachael picked Jedi, Ebin picked Sith. :thumbsup2
We got Goofy's Glaciers at Goofy's Candy Co. and mozied out of there in the drizzling rain.

Sorry to hear about the lack of fridge and micro but it looks like it turned out well anyway...and the hotel looks nice! Clean and neat and like you said, the kids probably couldn't care less because they just love hotels haha  I'm so happy for them that they got those 2 magical moments and 2 free pins each! What a way to start off the trip!:thumbsup2
I'm happy w/the hotel. We had the top floor (I requested that) which was 5th floor, and it was QUIET. I never heard another family the whole time. Also, they redid their pool from the pix on tripadvisor, and it's decent now. They must use saltwater instead of chloriine because it wasn't stingy for the eyes or stinky at all and was SOOO warm when we swam!
Nothing like DTD to start a trip off right....;) We have planned it for the 30th during the day before we do MNSSHP. Figured that would be a good day for it...now lets hope I don't spend all my money in one place!!!:rotfl2:
Sounds like the you guys bounced back nicely after that drive....I think I would have been in bed crashed....
Waiting patiently for next installment....popcorn::
Yes, it was a great beginning to the trip. Cute photo-ops abounds. Fun shopping. Lots of happy excited people milling around. We crashed back at the hotel about 8:30-ish, I think.

I can't imagine driving all that way without stopping - what great troopers you all were!!
I'm glad you were happy with your off-site hotel - great rates too! I've contemplated staying offsite to save money but I love the ease of Disney transportation too much (plus when we went in 1997 & rented a car, we never used it except to go back and forth to airport. There were 12 of us for 10 days and I thought having a car would be easier.)
Your kids are adorable! Am anxious to read the next chapter!

I think with our proximity, it was good, otherwise, I def. wanna try on-site for a next trip, as I just hated the driving down there! The idea of the busses just being there for me would be fantastic!

I woke up BEFORE the alarm clock, of course, on the morning of Oct. 10th. We had a 9:45 reservation for 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian with Mary Poppins & Friends. I made coffee after checking my reservation times and the weather forecast for the day.
Yikes! Rain. So.... rain all the way into Orlando. Rain drizzling all evening at DtD.... raining as we fell asleep on those wonnnnnnderful pillows at our hotel the night before. Were we seriously going to be rained on this whole trip? And more importantly- tonight, during MNSSHP?:sad2:
With a sigh, I decided I'd just have to get rain ponchos, I guess and started my shower. The kids were getting up as I was getting out and I got them both bathed and dressed. DH was drrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaggggging his feet. He was TIRED. Surprisingly, I got them all out of the hotel my 8:45. We got to the parking lot of MK and DH was very confused about what was going on.
We had to park at one place, only to get on a monorail to get to where we wanted to go? We WERE going to try to go straight to GF, but to be honest, we got lost and somehow found our cars going with the flow to MK. So :confused3 whatever, thanks to the DIS :disrocks: I knew we could park there and take the monorail.
WELL.... once we got the the parking lot, we found out we first had to board trams to get to the TTC, where the monorail would be! Oh yea, I'd read that on the DIS too! Seriously, thank goodness I decided to research my trip before going. I can't imagine how much time and confusion people go through if they just pack up and head to the World with no clue of how it all works. DH had absolutely no recollection of any of this stuff as a kid. Which I was happy about- cuz it was like we were going through it together! :cutie:
Once we finally got to the TTC, we headed towards the monorail. DH followed the crowd, of course, and I quickly veered him in the direction of the RESORT monorail. Something I learned about my husband during this trip was that HE DOESN'T READ SIGNS. This will come into play later in our trip. :rolleyes1
So as we are the first in line for the monorail to the resorts, we notice the cast member is from Gary, Indiana. DH spent some years growing up, and was born in, Hammond, Indiana and East Chicago, IN, which is a neighbor to Gary, so they started chatting. When the monorail arrived, she directed us to.....
The first car! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
I nearly ran as I took the kids hands and told them how special this was, and that not everyone gets to ride the front car of the monorail. The driver's name was Tom, and he was ALSO from a city near DH's hometown, DH was just tickled. The kids were beyond excited, and mom was grinning ear-to-ear. Magic Moment #3!!

Now, I really had no idea what to expect getting off the monorail and going into the second floor of the Grand Floridian. It was about 9:43 or something so we had to be there, like NOW, so we didn't have a lot of time to play around, but I did take pix of our entrance from the monorail, and as we waited for the elevator to go downstairs. SOOO beautiful.
CP, I def. see why Chelsea wants to stay there for her 13th birthday. The girl has impeccable taste. Just beautiful. Definitely on my "someday" list.

We checked in, got our pagers, and decided to check out the gift shop while we waited. I really wanted a pin that said 1900 Park Fare but could find nothing so specific the entire trip. :sad1: All I can find on ebay is a button. I don't want a button- I want a pin! :snooty: Oh well.
DD & DS loved these dolls/hats.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ParkFareF.jpg
While we were in there, I picked up rain ponchos for all 4 of us. The next day was "shopping day" in the morning, and I knew that I could pick up 99cent ponchos, however, I was very worried about MNSSHP on this very evening. I decided better safe then sorry. If nothing else, they're souvies, right? :confused3 I paid for a couple other things that DH had picked out :rolleyes1 , as well as an autograph book w/photo inserts- the kids had left theirs in the car :scared: , but I decided I'd better have a nicer version anyway- cuz chances were good that there's would be lost and/or scribbled in when we got home. $72.00 later.....:scared1:
We got paged, and off we went!
Had to take the obligatory picture of the sign:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ParkFareE.jpg
And since we were starving... we got right to the food as soon as we were seated. We were seated in the first room upon entering, to the far left. We sat the kids in the aisle so that it would be easy for the characters to get to them and easy for us to take pictures.
I have to say- the food was DELICIOUS! It was always hot, plentiful, and just darn GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! It wasn't too noisy in there, and the characters were spread nicely throughout the three rooms.
I tried my hand at food pix:

And then the characters started coming! First Pooh:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ParkFareL.jpg
The kids were kind of shy so they stayed seated for the first one, but before we left, he actually came around once more, and they got up, gave him a hug, and even mom got in on the action:

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ParkFareS.jpg
Next came Tigger, and the kids were so excited, they were watching him come. As I was snapping the picture below, Rachael and Ebin are discussing something amongst themselves and they both start giggling!
"What's so funny?" I ask.
"Tigger has velcro!" they reply.
"How else is he going to keep his tail out of your food?" I ask.

Next is Mary Poppins, who asks the kids if they've tidied up their nursery. To which she is answered with stares and silence. They didn't know what to make of her!
"Well, spit-spot," she says, "Every job must be done, you just need an element of fun!"
To which my Darling Daughter says, "Cleaning is NOT fun!" :crazy2:
Oh heavens, enough conversation. My children are embarrasing me. Let's just take some pictures! :bitelip:

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ParkFareW.jpg
Next come the Mad Hatter, and then Alice. DH wants to ask the Mad Hatter what the sign in his hat is for. Ebin says, "It's probably a price tag!" and DH doesn't agree. Ebin won't ask FOR Dad, so I tell Dad to be a man and ask! When MH comes over, he's asked, "We were wondering what the sign is in your hat, sir." and he replies, "Well, it's a price tag of course, 10 shillings and 6 pence. But really it's a place for me to stick all my un-birthday cards!" and Ebin says, "I was RIGHT!"
Say, "Pickles!"
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ParkFareR.jpg
When Alice comes over, DH wants to be in the pic as well, and I had to laugh later because my grown, 6'2" husband suddenly became so bashful and shy, with his hands first behind his back, and then shoved into his pockets. She asked him what his name was, and he says, in this whisper-y voice, "I'm sorry?" and cocks his head towards her. It was SO FUNNY! He'd also wanted a picture with Mary but had been so lovestruck  that he'd just plum forgot!

So after that second visit with Pooh, we ate the rest of our meal, I think we did 3 refills, and off we went. Our bill, for those interested, came to $80.44 with 2 adults, 2 children, and the 20% suggested tip. The waitress was wonderful. She always checked on us. Brought extra silverwear when DD spilled hers. Kept the water filled. Wisked away our dirty. Just wonderful. Plus, we were so happy, I got excited and went for the 20% instead of the 18%. In hindsight, I guess I could've just done the 18% but the difference might not've been that much. :confused3 DH nearly passed out :faint: , but I assured him I had known it would be about that much and had budgeted for it. ::yes::
We explored just a bit before wandering out of the resort.

We loaded up onto a regular car on the monorail and headed back to the TTC to retrieve our car. The plan was to go mini-golfing at the Winter/Summerland before changing prior to MNSSHP! DH hemmed and hawed and suggested swimming instead. Which do you think the kids chose?
Swimming or Mini-golfing?
Here we are on the monorail as we decide:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ParkFareZh.jpg
And here is DH and I.... notice anything different about DH? Notice anything.... I don't know.... new? :rolleyes1
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ParkFareZi.jpg
If you guessed that DH joined the lanyard gang, you are correct! :thumbsup2
DD and DS had made their very first trade with the monorail driver, Tom. None of the pix w/Tom turned out, btw, all were whited out- kinda spooky, no? And DH decided suddenly that maybe this wouldn't be a bad idea.
And if you guessed SWIMMING, you are also correct. Leave it to kids to go for swimming any time, right? They LOVE mini-golf too so whatever. BTW, if anyone wants my 10%off coupon for the mini-golf at Disney, good until the end of this year, PM me your address and I'll send it to ya.
And another note about swimming.... it turned out not to be such a great idea.... as you'll see... in my next installment..... :cool2:

Yes, it was very magical! We also thought it was cool because one of the trading pins I got through ebay for Ebin was an orange monorail. He'd already decided to keep it before we rode it- but once we got to ride up front AND it was the orange monorail- he was certain this good luck was due to the pin! So we headed back to the hotel for the swim, rest, change.
I wanted to have left the hotel about 3:15 at the latest, so we could be at the gate at 4.
Here's how it actually went down:
Arrived back to the hotel: 11:30ish
Swam from 11:45ish- 1:30ish
Changed by 2ish
Everyone ate snack of PB&Js, pretzels, and juice at 2:30ish, while watching TV. Kids in their cute costumes:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW135.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW136.jpg
Unfortuneately, this is the only pictures I have in the kids for the party in their costumes. Because after we loaded into the car... (late! thanks to DH messing around on the computer saying he was doing 'homework' but he was actually playing solitaire! :headache: ) at 3:45ish, they looked like this:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/mnsshp1.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/mnsshp2.jpg
Now, once we got under the wonderful sign:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW1.jpg
DH suddenly gets into the left turn lane for the Hess station.
"What are you DOING?!" I squeal, looking at the 4:00 on the dashboard.
"Getting cigarettes," he says, "calm down."
I'm FUMING. By the time he gets out of the station, it's about 4:10ish. And guess what? THERE IS NO WAY TO GET BACK WHENCE WE CAME! So now we're on our way OUT of the park, almost back to World Drive, before we see a quick left turn that steers us BACK into the parking. I was MAD. THEN he turns into the WRONG parking, the AAA & disability parking, because he's not paying attention to signs- AGAIN :scared:.
We are quite irritated with each other by the time we pull into the parking spot. Some 45 MINUTES AFTER WE GOT THERE TO BEGIN WITH.
"45 minutes for a pack of cigarettes." I say. "Nice."
I won't tell you what he snapped back at me. :sad2:
So now we rise our children. They are not happy. That whole swimming thing? No, def. not a good idea. They are exhausted. And now they are hot ini their costumes and proclaim to me they need to change. I plea to them to at least wait until we get to the TTC and maybe they will change their minds.
Well, we never did get that rain that night, even though I had those darn ponchos in my bag now. And it was HOT. Like, 95 hot. And humid. I don't think it got that hot all summer in Illinois. :sad2: So the costumes were rolled up in mom's bag, and reg. clothes changed into. I don't know how some people walked around in the costumes they did. It was so darn hot for that! I mean, I was wearing a skirt, flip-flops, and a tee shirt and I was comfortable.
They are cranky on the monorail, but Dad and I are excited! :rotfl2: We tell them we could get them a baby-sitter and go by ourselves! They don't like that idea.

So, I was pretty irritated before this point, I must say. I mean, we arrive into the parking lot about 4:45, and not to the front gate until about... I don't know... 5:10ish! In my head, I'm calculating that by the time we get to City Hall to get our buttons, down Main Street, have photopass taken, and over to Tommorowland to do Buzz (which Ebin has chosen as the First Ride), it will be 6 already! Two hours WASTED. #1 because DH wouldn't get his butt moving. #2 because he made a cigarette run that turned into a 45 minute mess. :headache: :headache:
But I have to tell you- I pulled it together. :goodvibes Everytime those thoughts shoved their way into my head, I PUSHED them out, determined NOT to be mad during our magical day. MY magical day. And I think I only reminded DH of his flaws..... 2 or 3 more times. Ok, maybe 4. At most. :upsidedow But getting to the Magic Kingdom can generally make anyone less mad, dontchathink?
Getting our bracelets:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW110.jpg
Ebin kept touching this guys hat while he was putting on his sister's bracelet. I thought it was so funny.

I'm all caught up! Great update Julia! We probably just missed one another..really! We didn't get to the MK that night till after 5 as well. And we went to Tomorrowland first as well! So we passed under the railroad and onto Main Street. Our very first vision is of the flag retreat! Wow- cool!

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW122.jpg
Then, it's easy to see how some people's itineraries would go right out of their heads an be forgotten. It's so.... overwhelming. The sights. The sounds. The people. The SIZE!
Thankfully, I remember I want City Hall to be our first stop so I remind the kids they get buttons for their 1st visit! We get in line, and get up to the front after 3 or 4 people ahead of us. The nice cast member asks what can she do for us? I say, "We have 3 first-timers to Disney World!" and she says, "Welcome! How wonderful!" and gives us our pins. DH was a little pouty he didn't get one too. "You've been here!" I remind him. But I don't know, I think they need to come up with a "1st Time as an Adult" pin or something. He just kept saying over and over throughout the trip, "I don't remember this AT ALL." or "Geez, my parent's SUCKED."
We headed down Main Street, the kids wanting to go into every shop they saw. We reminded them we could go into the shops at the end of the night, on our way out of the park, if we felt like it.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW127.jpg
About 1/2-way up the street, we got a really good view of the castle.
"Rachael Rachael! Look! Look!" exclaimed Ebin.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW128.jpg
My DD, typical, was so over it. "I see it, I see it!" she says. :confused3 Very anti-climactic, that child.
But DS thinks it's beautiful and that makes me happy. Unfortuneately, we didn't get a daytime view of the castle here because there was ONE count 'em ONE photopass photog on the end of Main St.... and one @ the beginning. That's IT. And there was a line so we said oh well- later.
We headed into Tommorowland, stopping to get our Mickey ears first. Ebin picked out Steamboat Willie. Rach picked out festive Bat ears. I picked out the pumpkin ears I'd coveted off the internet for a while.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW130.jpg
We arrive to Tommorrowland. 10 minute wait for Buzz. 5 minutes for Stitch and Laugh Floor. Jim has now talked Ebin into Space Mountain. I am MAD! Because these 1st three have no/little wait. Because Ebin HAD CHOSEN BUZZ AND DH HORNSWAGGLED HIM INTO THINKING SM WOULD BE BETTER TO GO FIRST! And I KNOW that SM is going to have a long wait. It's still reg. park hours, remember. It's right around 6ish. Sure enough, it's 40 minutes. The kids are tired. Cranky. Begging to go on a ride.
Carousel of Progress. No wait. It's air-conditioned. Sounds good to me.
I will forever remember that as our first ride as a family at Walt Disney World. The kids wanted to sit in the front row and we let them. We sat behind them, and about 4 seats over. We could see their faces and watch them from our vantage point. I watched the attraction of course. But I watched their faces more. They were adorable. Enthralled. Amazed. Mouths open. Eyes bright and watching. Rachael waving goodbye to the dog every time we moved around. Ebin laughing in delight every time a hidden room lit up and there was something new in it. "How did they DO that?" he would whisper back to us.
It's a great Big Beautiful Tommorow, indeed. :cloud9:
Next, we all did Buzz together. It was AWESOME, of course. We all loved it. I'd done it at DLR, of course, but DD didn't remember it and DS/DH's 1st time. Awesome. Then we split up. Rach and I did TTA and Stitch and the boys did SM. Rach HATED Stitch. Eb loved SM.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW143.jpg
We headed over to HM and caught the end of the show in front of the castle. What's that called? Anyway- we all wanted to walk past, but Ebin INSISTED we stopped, and just this morning on the way to work as I was thinking about this TR, I realized it was because this was his very very first sighting of characters ever. How awesome that must have been for him at that moment. I mean, I remember him watching, entranced. But I hadn't realized at the time the weight of that moment. Well we enjoyed that and off we went.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW146.jpg
HM was closed w/difficulties so we headed to BTMR. I conned DD into this. She cried the whole time. I am a bad, mean mommy.
We went to Pecos Bills while the boys hit up Splash Mountain and they met up with us. I did the trick of buying the double cheeseburger and a 2nd bun. Totally worked great. More then filling for the two of us. The boys did the same. DH said he could have eaten more but that it was satisfying, nonetheless.
Turns out we were in the perfect spot for the parade! So we watched it from Pecos Bills. The headless horseman was AMAZING. Very thrilling. The kids thought it was very awesome. The parade is very fun. I won't put those pix in here only cause they're not that great and can be found everywhere. My favorite, I think was the hitchiking ghosts. Their dance looked like animatronics. Awesome. The kids LOVED the grave diggers. DH did too.
After this we headed to POTC. We ran into Hook and Smee! Did photopass for that. We all LOVED POTC. I hadn't gotten to do that at Disneyland. Awesome. I loved it. Afterwards, the kids were asked to play a bucket game in the store at the end of POTC. They got cute little certificates for it. Another one for the scrapbook!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW196.jpg
Found out JC was closed. Darn. No time for carpets- gotta see if HM is back up! It is! Great!
But before we can get there- the fireworks. We watched from Liberty Square. We could only see our side so we didn't know what we were missing, as far as the entire show, but even from our vantage point, it's a good show.
We get to HM and it's walk-on.
DD is crying in no time. I honestly don't think it would've been that bad. BUT they must've been letting someone in a wheelchair on because we got stuck RIGHT in the hallway w/the changing faces portraits and the staircases w/disappearing footprints and she started freaking out. I had to cover her eyes and sing "It's a small world" into her ears the entire time. She only let me uncover her eyes for the ballroom/birthday party scene and to see the flying instruments. She HATED the bride.
Well, now DD puts her foot down and says WE ARE GOING TO FANTASYLAND. Ok, ok. So we hit up Peter Pan first (10 min. wait), then IASW, Philharmagic- I think my new favorite- that's AMAZING, and Cindy's carousel.
In It's a Small World:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW201.jpg
On Peter Pan:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW207.jpg
To Mickey's Philharmagic, Ebin's asthmatic, so we thought this was hilarious:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW216.jpg
Now she's happy!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW211.jpg
We were stopped to do limbo on our way to Toontown:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW208.jpg
We head over to Toontown and Ebin and DH make a mad dash for Mickey's house. Rachael and I get in line for Minnie. We see her in no time. Uh-oh! Dad has our photopass card. No problem, right? I mean, I just get a new one. Well guess what? It's not on this card. The card they gave me? Nothing. I didn't even have our camera either cuz Dad had it, so we have no pix of Minnie in her costume w/DD.
Next, we head to Mickey's house. DH and DS are still in line! We jump in with them and all wait together. Got great photopass pix. DS wants Minnie's now. We skedaddle over there and the castmember says "Sorry, no more." I look pathetically at the end of the line and plead, "Please? He'll be so disappointed!" and she says, "Sorry, no."
When Ebin catches up to me, I turn and say "Sorry, bud."
Poor guy. Rachael looks at me, knowingly. Ebin turns away, head down, shoulders dejected, hands loosely holding his autograph book and pen. Slowly walks away from me, towards DH.
It was honestly the most heartbreaking thing. I was disappointed in the castmember. I mean, really. There was NO BODY ELSE AROUND. She could of let us sneak in! Or even just my little guy! But she was determined to do her job. And I know that she had to. I understand that. But geez, y'know? How about some magic for a poor 6 yr old? :confused3 Like, I said, I understand she couldn't. I mean, just that moment and two other families would pop out of the woodwork or something, right?
But still- it was disappointing.
DH, DD, and I all assured, promised, and pleaded to DS that he WOULD SEE AND MEET MINNIE AT DHS ON SUNDAY! WE WOULD GUARANTEE IT! YOU WILL NOT LEAVE FLORIDA WITHOUT MEETING MINNIE! We said.
I didn't mention it to DS and DD, but we actually had an ADR the next morning
for Cape May Cafe, which features Minnie, Goofy, and Donald. BUT, DH and I were contemplating dropping it due to cost and the time (7:45!!). I whispered to DH that "Even if we have to pay 80 bucks for it" Eb was GOING TO MEET HIS MINNIE MOUSE!
So we stopped in Tommorowland again, DS and I rode SM (walk-on), which perked him up very quickly :yay: :yay: :yay: We could've ridden it twice but had to meet up w/DH and DD, who were supposed to be on TTA, but turns out they did Astro-orbiters. Freaked out DH a bit cuz he has a heights thing, but DD had a blast, apparently.
So now it's the end of the night and there are literally double strollers abandoned everywhere. DH and I could care less about people's lack of manners and instead, appreciate it very much. We snag one, load the kids into it, and head back leisurely towards Main Street. The castle is beautiful, the kids are happily chatting in the stroller, and DH and I are shoulder-to-shoulder musing on what a perfect night it was. I might've reminded him an extra hour and 45 minutes would've made it really perfect. :rolleyes1
DS wanted to see what the inside of the castle looked like so we rolled up there to look. The kids said, "It's a mall!" :confused3
We headed down Main St. and DH was the one to suggest the stop at every photopass we saw! And all of us 2 cuz the lazy kids didn't want to get out of the stroller. :upsidedow I ducked into the jewelry/watch shop and couldn't believe the prices. I'll go to Sears or QVC, thank you!
The kids begged for a giant balloon, and they each got one. $10 a piece! OMG. Oh well. Whatever. They lasted forever. Rachael's finally sank this past weekend. That's a long time! And I think only because she ripped off the plastic covering. Otherwise, it was the same size from the time we bought it until a week ago, when she took off that plastic.
We decided to take the ferry back. DH could barely take off the goofy smile from his face. He was so happy. He just kept talking about how party tickets are the way to go (cuz of no-wait on rides) and how different it is as an adult. How different it was as a parent. How fun it was. The kids laid on the benches on the ferry and we stood at the railing, watching the MK gently get further away.
Back at the TTC, we were all so tired, zombie-like is a very good description. It was nearly 1a.m. The first tram came and we couldn't fit on it. As we're standing there, I look at the family on the tram that had been standing in front of us in line.
"I think I know that woman." I say to DH.
"Who?" he says.
"In the orange," I reply. "In the last row, with the girl?"
"Call her name," he shrugs, "If it's not her, who cares?"
"Sara!" I call out.
Nothin. Then this woman vaguely looks in our direction w/glossed over eyes and back at her daughter.
"No, I'm sure I know her." I say to DH." I must have the wrong name."
Then DH proceeds to raise his voice and talk about how strange it is that I would know someone off my wierd psycho disney message boards. I quickly put him in his place and call him out for trying to embarrass me in front of strangers (other people in line).
So who is this person? Why, it's mom2mek, Sara! Isn't that crazy? :disrocks:
So the kids were asleep as soon as they were buckled in. We arrived exhausted, and deliriously happy to the hotel around 1:30ish. The kids can't believe they "partied all the way 'till tommorow".
So.... the next day's schedule is as follows:
7:45 Cape May Cafe for Goofy's Beach Buffet
followed by shopping at the Character Outlet at Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores. Gatorland for the afternoon with the evening ending at Arabian Nights Dinner Show in Orlando.
What do we do? Do we make the 7:45? What plans do we keep? What do we skip? What do we do that was not in the plans AT ALL?
To be continued................ ;)

Yea, we did a lot of Photopass, but I didn't get nearly as many as I wanted. There simply weren't enough around the castle, IMO.
The party was so fun. I wished we'd had two tickets though. I think one night purely for party and one night purely for rides would be perfect.

Ok, so....those of you that guessed that we did NOT make our 7:45 ADR for Cape May Cafe were......
yea. SO RIGHT. There was just no way. We were so exhausted. My internal clock woke me up at 7:20 and I had enough of a mind to call the ressie line and cancel our ressie for 4- hopefully tha was enough time to satisfy any walk-up that was crazy enough to try for that morning. The CM was laughing at me because my voice was like a frog and I said, "The halloween party is a lot of fun. A lot." and told me to get some sleep! :rotfl:
Which I did. We all slept in until 9:30!!
DH said, with a groan, "I've got a WICKED magic hangover."
So the plan for this day was to hit up the infamous Wal-mart that I've heard about on the DIS. The one with the "huge" WDW merchandise section that trumps any Disney apparel and merchandise of any Wal-mart in the US.
Also to hit up Character Outlet at Lake Buena Vista Factory Shops. The discontinued and hugely underpriced authentic WDW merchandise.
Next, was Gatorland. Good for a couple hours of entertainment. Hoping to let the kids wrestle an alligator.
Dinner was Arabian Nights. A dinner show spectacular highlighting horses, magic, romance, and a 3-course meal. Better reviews than the Pirate Show in Orlando and I get to use utensils!
So how close did we follow this schedule? Well, with the dropping of Cape May right off the bat, we got a pretty late start. After a breakfast of cereal in the room, coffee in hand, we headed out to the Kissimmee Wal-mart about 11. I'm thinking we got the wrong Wal-mart. Either that- or these other DIS-ers are easily pleased. I picked up two kitchen towels and the kids got 1 tee shirt each. I didn't see anything that said WDW '08 that I liked enough to buy. I didn't see any Disney apparel that was any better than what I can find in my local Wal-mart, or on Clearance at the local Hot Topic.
Disappointed, and pinching myself as I viewed the 88cent Mickey & Minnie ponchos on our way through check-out, we headed to LBVFS (http://www.lbvfs.com/) for the Character Outlet! Yay! I picked this particular Disney outlet due to the fact that there was a Character Outlet near DisneyLAND that I'd planned on hitting when our original plans were to go to CA. So, I wanted to preserve something of our original trip, y'know?
LBVFS was a decent stop. First we went to the Food Court. They had AWESOME pizza that was HUGE. Jim and I each got a slice and got the kids one to split. We all got small refillable fountain drinks. I think we spent $13 for the four of us. It was nice to see non-Disney prices for the first time in 2 days.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW221.jpg
We got ice cream after we ate from there. It was awful. If you go there- DON"T GET THE ICE CREAM! The texture was like sandpaper. Ugh.
We went to the KB-Toy outlet. I don't remember what Ebin got. Rachael got a bear that you stuff yourself. "Annika Bear" would stay with us the rest of the day after I put her together in the car.
The Hard Rock outlet store had AWESOME prices. Unfortuneately, I'm not into that stuff. The pins were like, $1.50. Worth a stop if you're a fan of Hard Rock.
We stopped into the Ecko outlet 'cuz DH wanted to look at hats. He didn't like the choices but they had great prices as well. And a giant rhino in the window. The kids wanted to take it home. It WAS pretty cool. Rhino's are Rachael's favorite zoo animal.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW224.jpg
And Rach w/her bear, after I spent, like, 20 minutes stuffing the dang thing:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/BILD0633.jpg
On to my destination! Character Outlet! Right away Rachael spotted a Mickey Mouse umbrella she wanted. She's been needing an umbrella back home so SCORE! $4.00. I picked up two "Studio 28" by Disney shirts. A long-sleeve Alice in wonderland for $3.99. A Mary Poppins hoodie zip-up for $12.99 (reg. price was formerly $29.99) Picked up some cute bowls, a souvenir book from WDW circa 2001 or 2001-ish (I love that kinda stuff- I'm uber dork) for $5.99, some scrapbooking stickers for less than anyplace back home (wish I'd bought more!) In total I spent $50. I kicked myself for forgetting my $5 off coupon w/every purchase over $45 in the car.
It was totally worth the stop. There were a TON of Minnie/Mickey golf polo shirts, if that's your thing. $10. Lots more menswear then womens. Lots more infants then children clothing. Next trip, I'll try a different outlet. There's 3 and I think the one in Orlando Premium is the one highly recommended by Froders? Also the guidebooks all say the flea markets are AWESOME to get current or recent park items.
By this time, it was about 2:30, I think. Arabian Nights check in started at 4:30. Pre-show at 5. Dinner at 6.
With 2 hours to kill, DH suggested finding the Lego store! We'd stayed mostly toward one end of DtD when we'd gone two nights earlier, so we hadn't seen it. We saw the T-Rex Cafe and rued the fact it wouldn't be open for a couple days, our arrival-to-home day, in fact.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/BILD0634.jpg
The kids loved the 'sculptures' made of Legos. They played just a little bit with the outdoor station, but not very long. They liked looking in all the little windows w/the Legos inside. The guy w/the TV in his torso was pretty cool. Rach didn't get anything- she couldn't care less about Legos- even the pink ones. Ebin got a teeny character keychain. Somebody's girlfriend? From Star Wars maybe? I have no idea. I'm totally unhip to that stuff.

I do have to say though- how the heck did someone build the Taj Mahal? Seriously?
With a pose w/the bronze Hamburgler outside McD's, we bid farewell to DtD for the final time this trip. The kids dont' even know who that is but they just had to have a pic w/the guy. :confused3

Julia, great update! Not surprised you didn't make that ADR! :lmao: I can't tell you how late we slept that morning - have to wait till I get to that day in my report...I've got to pick up the pace I think! Sounds like you found some great bargains at the outlets. Yuck on the sandpaper ice cream though!
Those Lego displays always amaze me! I think I would rather drive toothpicks under my fingernails than build something like that! I just don't have the patience! T-rex looks cool and I've heard good things from some about the atmosphere and food (and cotton-tinis)!
Can't wait for Arabian Nights! :goodvibes

Julia, I really love reading your report. You really capture the hapiness, and still have those moments of aggrivation that we all have. Too bad you couldn't get Sara's attention. I know, Monica, that would've been fun. It WAS a magical trip. Even w/those aggravating moments- I take them as learning experiences.....
Hope you and your family had a wonderful halloween, make sure to post some pictures soon! :goodvibes
I was a bad mom. Again. No pix of Halloween this year. Actually, I did the best on our Disney vacation than I ever have. I'm horrible about taking pictures. As in- I don't.

Yea, toothpicks and fingernails sound good to me to. I personally hate Legos. I mean, c'mon. Unless your kid is a future engineer- probably mom & dad are stuck putting the dang things together. T-rex looks cool but the DIS podcast crew's review was SCATHING! Don't know if I'd want to try it. We have a Rainforest Cafe out this way too so we'll probably never go to the ones out there.

They actually just opened "The Legoland Discovery Center" in Chicago-land this summer. I'm hoping to plan a trip there in the coming winter or spring. Take away our winter-away-from-Disney blues. They got a little Lego coaster through a land of Lego people or something, and a 4-D movie. Should be fun. :goodvibes

That's so bad! Oh no! LOL. I'm not sure if we'll ever do that or not. The podcast's review was so bad. But I don't imagine we'll get out of Orlando WITHOUT the experience next time so it probably IS in our cards in the future...

11-06-2008, 01:56 PM
After leaving Downtown Disney for the last time this trip, and the Lego store, we headed to our reservation at Arabian Nights. "Rated Orlando's #1 Dinner attraction".... whether that's true or not is up to debate. I chose this dinner show over Medieval Times because we have a MT near us, and even though we have never gone- we have the choice to at any time. Also- I DESPISE eating with my hands and the idea of hundreds of people eating with their hands and licking their fingers is so disgusting to me I can't even tell you. :scared:
I'd pre-purchased our tickets through ebay for $50 for the DH and I. I purchased the kids tickets at the gate w/$10 off per our Orlando Discounts card that I recieved through the Orlando Visitor's Bureau website. Their tickets came to about $42 w/tax.
A nice woman saw me trying to photgraph DH and the kids and offered to take our picture:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/BILD0651.jpg
Once you're ushered in, you are taken to a photo area. During the dinner, we were shown the finished product and given an offer to purchase for $21. It included an 8x10 that comes in a commemorative photo-frame and two wallets, as well as a wallet-sized photo-frame that has a magnet. YES, I bought it. I had to- we looked great! If I can get it scanned, I'll include in at the end of this TR. They put in images of horses behind us and of an arabian-looking castle behind us. Really pretty.
You actually ENTER through a gift shop, and the kids & DH had to use the restroom so we all headed out and towards that area. After that, we took our seats in the pre-show area. There was a magician, I wish I remembered his name because that guy's got a future. He was WONDERFUL. Young, I think he said he's 23-25ish or something, and just amazing. Said he's had the oppurtunity to study and work with some of the 'great magicians' of the world. I believe it because some of the things he did were amazing! But I've never seen a magic show at all so maybe I'm easily pleased.
Here's the kids being amazed by something he's doing:

Now, the food. You had free-flowing beer, wine, and soft drinks. I don't remember the brand. Dinner choices for kids were chicken strips or pasta. Adults had a pasta choice, a grilled chicken choice, or a steak. I chose chicken. DH chose steak. Entree's came with mashed potatos, steamed vegetables, and unlimited rolls and butter. Dessert was a creamy, tasty ice-cream pie-type of sliced something. (Yes, I'll never be a food critique, ok?) It was good, whatever it was.
I LOVED my food and ate almost all of it. Decent portions, juicy flavorful chicken, tasty veggies. Jim liked his steak and cleaned his plate! Rachael ate both her AND her brother's salad, as DS doesn't like salad. They both ordered the chicken strips, and I think they each got 5 nice-sized ones. They each ate about 3. I tried them and they were good! ::yes::
Overall, Arabian Nights was an excellent experience. Our server was wonderful, although we'd completely forgotten about tip and had to use the ATM in the lobby to get his tip money. We tipped him $20 for our family of 4. Those waiters don't just serve. Your server also busses. He has an entire ROW of about 12-15 people and depending on what row of seating you have- has a lot of climbing with trays of food and dishes to deal with. He was attentive and happy and very Disney-like! Ray should work at Disney!
We got out about 8 and Jim suggested we go over to the Boardwalk! :yay: I had thought we were going straight home so I was quite excited about this! AND we had time to catch the fireworks @ Epcot from the position next to Jellyrolls that I'd read about!
Up next: On the Boardwalk......where we're havin' some fun! :wizard:

Last I left you we had left Arabian Nights and were on our way to the Boardwalk. We arrived within 15 minutes, however, where the heck do you park? We ended up across the street from the Boardwalk Inn, in a parking lot marked with some sign that indicated we shouldn't park there. Oops. But the gates were open and there were others going in as well, and people walking, so whatever! We figured we'd be able to find someone to help us somehow if we got locked in later, right?
We crossed the street, passed the convention something-or-other near the resort, and went in through the front entrance, passed through the lobby (GORGEOUS! OMG!) and emerged on.... well... the boardwalk!
Here's a 'lil somethin' for ya, Leslie ;) :

OMG.
That's some hard work. :scared: But we were laughing hysterically and yelling for people to get out of the way. I was slamming on imaginary breaks and trying desperately to turn my useless wheel (only one wheel works, even though you have two). Rach had a blast ringing the bell whenever there were people in front of us, and Ebin would shout, "Ring the bell, Rach! Ring the bell!" when he saw people ahead. We were seriously working HARD to get up the hill around one part and I was ready to give up after 1 lap around the lake. But Jim said No Way! We were going to do the three laps....

Well, midway around lap #2, we hear this guy yell something to us, "C'mon! You can do better than that!" and we turn to see another family like us, Dad-Mom-Boy-Girl, gaining on us. :lmao: Before you know it, the two families are laughing and having an all -out RACE through crowds and around bends. It was pretty funny. We gave up at the surrety station, though, and they cruised past, calling, "Quitters!"
Soooo funny. I recommend it for a good time. HOWEVER, if you have a husband like mine, who is unable to take anything at a leisurely pace (I blame his parents for this) I don't recommend it. And that last hill. Man. Total killer.:sad2: One time, Jim got out to push us and people walking past were laughing, we were all laughing, it was too too funny.:rotfl2:
When we got back, we headed to our spot to watch the fireworks, but we wanted to get ice cream. TIP: The Screen Door General Store store has general grocery merchandise not including anything other than the usual frozen stuff you buy at any gas station in America. Ick. Here's where things went wrong. I picked out some souvies for my parent's & a package of pinbacks and while I'm waiting in line is when the fireworks went off! Boo! :scared: But I'd been in the line forever and I wasn't giving up- there were people 6 deep behind me!
So I watched what I could through the windows behind the register. They need another register in that store. Definitely. I was so mad. :headache: Not at the CM's but at these people in front of me, who apparently were going to get sloshed?? They were buying a ton of alcohol, from what I could tell!? And groceries, too. It was just annoying. And than they both decided to pin trade in the middle of the damn transaction with the CM. If looks could kill they would've both fell away from each other and left me a perfect path to the register.
Oh well. Whatever. :confused3
So we had our crappy ice cream and meandered around back over to the Boardwalk and went through the resort again on our way to the car. The kids fell asleep again on the way back to the hotel and we got settled in for an early morning to attempt to make Disney Hollywood Studios for rope drop!

I loved the whole Boardwalk experience. And although riding the surrey was some seriously hard work- it was great to see the Swan up close, where the movie on the beach is at Yacht Club, the kids having such fun in the pool. It was a good orientation to that whole area!

The morning we went to Disney Hollywood Studios we wanted to make it there by rope drop. We ate cereal in the room and off we went!
We were all set to make it to the parking lot nad to the gates by park opening. We’re driving along….
There’s the entrance! Over there to the right…..
And there it goes….
Yea. Remember earlier when I said I discovered that my DH apparently doesn’t read signs while driving very often? Um, yea.
SO ANYWAY…..
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/BILD0690.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/dhs1b.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/dhs1a.jpg
We arrived! We got to DHS shortly after opening. Like within 10 minutes. But that was enough time to make the TSM fast passes already be for 11:20-12:20! DH says when we got there he was standing in line for about ½-hr to get the fast pass.
In the meantime, Ebin, Rachael, and I lined up and met characters next to the Sorcerer‘s Hat.
First up, Lilo and Stitch! All the while eyeing Minnie & Daisy in the next line….
The kids had great interaction w/Lilo and Stitch. They messed up Rachael’s hair, and goofed around w/Ebin. The kids had a blast w/them.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/BILD0695.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/BILD0696.jpg
After that, we discovered Minnie & Daisy were going on break. We asked the CM when they would be back and she said 15 minutes, on the other side. We looked at the maps of DHS while we waited the 15 minutes. The Chip & Dale line was the shortest, and right next to us, so we went there.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/BILD0697.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/BILD0699-1.jpg
Just as we finished w/Chip, we ran over to Minnie, and discovered that she was leaving on break. Dad got back about this time w/our coveted FP’s and wanted to go exploring. We checked the schedule and saw that their would be a # of character meet & greets that we could check throughout the day, so we agreed to try again later. We headed over to The Little Mermaid Show.
The kids had to go potty- OF COURSE- so we missed that showing. Okaaaaaaay…. So we went into One Man’s Dream. I thought the kids would think it was dumb but they ran to all the displays and loved it. We went into the movie and they even didn’t mind that- even though they kept begging to go to the front row. I’d watched Walt Disney: The Man Behind The Myth so I had seen a lot of the footage before and knew most of what was told, but it was still nice to have a park classic. I don’t know why that’s not in MK?
Anyway, after that we headed towards TSM and Jim was not in the mood to stand in line for characters so we passed the lines for TSM (crazy!!) and Al’s Toy Barn.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/dhs2.jpg
Something else I learned about DH on this trip was that he really has to be pushed to stand in lines of any kind- even if you know they’ll move fast, it’s hard to get him to agree. So with that in mind, we lined up for the Honey, I shrunk the Kids playground area to open up. I ended up being very annoyed w/this PLAYGROUND, as I hadn’t spent all this money for the kids to become enamored in a PLAYGROUND. But, I have to admit, they had a blast. Of course, it would’ve been much better if it had been paired with the 3-D MOVIE ATTRACTION, but whatever. I don’t quite see how that fits into Epcot.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/dhs9c2.jpg
After we left that attraction, the kids were begging for food. BUT ON OUR WAY, we ran into some Power Rangers!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/dhs5-1.jpg

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/WDW291.jpg
Honestly? I didn’t even know Rachael knew who the Power Rangers were!
We grabbed churros, refilled our water bottles, and headed in to see L!M!A! Very cute. Rachael LOVES Herbie so she was thrilled when he made his cameo. It was a good show, don’t know that I’d see it again though.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/dhs9d1.jpg
About this time was when our FP’s for TSM were ready. Also, we had an ADR for lunch @ 50’s Prime Time.
What to do….. What to do….
We had ABOUT 45-50 minutes before the ADR, so we headed over to TSM!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/dhs9c6.jpg
Look who walked by after we were done!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/dhs9b3.jpg
So, even w/FP’s we ended up waiting about ½ an hour. It was an adorable qeaue though but I do agree with other people who say if you have an FP, you do seem to miss out on a lot of fun during your wait. Jim rode w/Rach and I rode w/Ebin. I really enjoyed this ride, HOWEVER, I’m in the minority that I actually like Buzz BETTER (people seem to like to compare). But I also recognize my vision is terrible, even with contacts correcting them to 20/20+, and I have a slight astigmatism, which I think makes some 3-D effects fall flat. I still see them, but they just don’t POP as much as they did when I was a kid, or even 15 years ago for that matter. So maybe that’s why. We all had fun though and headed off in search of food.
Up Next: Do we make our lunch ADR?

Thanks! It was $20 for 1/2-hr or 3 trips around the lake. They sort of indicated that three trips would take 1/2 an hour but if we took longer to do the 3 trips we got the idea they wouldn't stress or charge us again.... I don't know why anyone in their right mind would want to do three trips- I'm telling you- it's HARD! But it would prolly be easier for you w/o 100+ pounds of KIDS in front of you! :rotfl:

We left TSM in a mad dash to get to 50’s Prime Time for lunch. On the way though, we spotted the photo op for Mater and Lightning McQueen and our decision was made. Let’s skip it. We didn’t want to spend the money and we wanted to get everything done that we could this day. We jumped in line for everyone’s favorite “Cars“. I’ll put photo pass pix in to the end of this TR. Here’s some shots playin’ around:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW302.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/WDW304.jpg
We swung back the other direction and hit up the Indiana Jones Stunt Show. We were the last in the theatre for the last showing of the morning so we were in standing room only at the back of the theater. Well, we had a nice magic moment when a cast member offered us the coveted 2nd row “reserved” seating about 5 minutes into the show, when it became apparent it wouldn’t become filled!
After being duly impressed, we headed to lunch at Backlot Express. BUT FIRST! We saw there was a 10 minute wait posted for Star Tours so we jumped in line. I have to say, I was dreading this, as I couldn’t stand Disneyland’s version. However, WDW’s version is MUCH BETTER. It’s synched, there’s no scratch-lines across the screen, the audio is crisp and clear, and the seats aren’t rickety. I didn’t get nauseas on this version at all, and quite enjoyed it. The kids loved it! And wanted to ride again. However, when we got out, the wait time had increased quite a bit.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/dhs9b4.jpg
NOW we got our lunch. There was Sloppy-Joe on the kids menu, and no hot dog. Rach wanted the hot dog, and I wanted a Sloppy Joe, Slop-Sloppy Joe so we swapped meals. Mine was gross. A really disgusting texture. Don’t get it.
I tried my hand at food porn once again:

We all talked about our plans for the rest of the day. We decided that after lunch, we’d head back towards RnRC to get FP’s for later, and ride ToT. While they did ToT, Rach and I would do The Little Mermaid show. Next, the character meeting to get Minnie’s autograph, the Belle show, and seating for F! would begin.
Sounds like a plan, right? Let’s see how close we stuck to this:
First, we meandered back through Streets of America back towards RnRC, and Dad decided to jump on ahead and meet us near ToT to get Ebin for the ToT ride. The kids and I took our time, and ended up seeing the streetmosphere Plumbers routine. They loved it! They parked w/other kids on the curb and laughed and loved getting squirted w/water. To this day they squeal, “Save the people! Save the people!”
We headed down towards our meeting place with Dad, figuring he was waiting on us by now. When we got there, he was nowhere to be found, and we waited in the nice shady area on benches and next to drinking fountains for him. The kids just played happily. It’s a nice peaceful memory. Jim came wandering back up the street from whence we came and finally we rejoined. Rach and I decided to go w/them towards ToT, since I love the queue area and I wanted to check out the gift shop. They went into the line and we went into the shop. It was SO BEAUTIFUL back there! I wondered how many people actually slow down and look around instead of just coming out of the ride, out of the shop, and heading back towards the street. Simply gorgeous. And great resting area out of the hustle and bustle.
A bad pic of Rachael w/one of those awesome fountains.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/ToT1.jpg
I just love ToT. When I went on it in DL, I just giggled the entire time. And since I knew the actual ride was different- that your car moved forward to it’s final destination before the drops, I decided I wanted to see it. I asked Rach, as we’re leaving, “Are you sure you don’t want to ride it?” and she says, “Sure!”
Well, ok then! So off we go walking into the line….. And walking… and walking….and walking…. Finally we reach the end of the line and see….. Dad and Ebin! Turns out that whole time we’d been wandering the gift shop and snooping through the rest area, they’d been standing in a line that had moved ½-way up! So we jumped in with them and waited about another 15-20 to get into the library.
Some pix from queue:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/WDW387.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/WDW393.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/WDW388.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/ToT.jpg
By this time, Rachael was begging to get off and Ebin was starting to whimper. Dad assured Eb he’d love it and I told Rach we’d do a kid swap so she wouldn’t even have to do it. Cuz now I really wanted to ride it! So that’s what we did. They take you down this elevator to where the riders release, and when your party comes out, you ride back up and hop to the front of the line. Well, Rach thought that was neat and the CM traded a pin w/her. We waited almost 10 minutes, I never realized there were so many people riding at once. One after the other, cars would release out of the same two doors. Finally out come Jim- with a great big grin, “That was awesome!” and Ebin- wiping tears away. So I did the “swap” without the kid!
I loved it as usual and here’s my crappy, blurry shot - I knew it was coming so I’m in the top right corner cheesing like a little girl:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20Hollywood%20Studio%20Mods/WDW351.jpg
So as a family, we were going to head to The Little Mermaid Show and then get Minnie’s autograph for Ebin. Remember, he’d been very upset over this at MK, and he’d been PROMISED as such for today. As we’re passing Beauty & Beast show, we see it’s just about to start. Jim asks the kids if they want to see it, “Since we’re here.” Argh! Fine. But we’ll have to RUN to the hat to see Minnie, I tell DH. He says, “Alright, alright!”
So- did we make it in time? Here’s Belle while you wait on the answer:

So BaTB was a cute, condensed show. Great singing. Neat costumes. It captivated DH and the kids’ attention. Meanwhile, I’m trying to enjoy this 4:15 show knowing that we MUST get back to the hat in time to see Minnie before she’s done by 5. :confused3
As BaTB wraps up, I check my watch- SNAP! It’s not quite 4:45. We HIGH-TAIL IT over to the hat and who do we see ahead? Not just Minnie and Pluto, but Ariel and Snow White! Wow! Dad throws over to me, “I’m gonna run into that store while you’re in line!” and off he goes!
Wha-wha-wha-wha????!!!!:scared1:
O.M.G. We have what I now refer to as “The Coke Float Fiasco”. :headache:
Rachael REALLY wants to get in line for Snow White and Ariel. For that matter, so does Ebin. HOWEVER, I REMIND them that Ebin hasn’t yet seen Minnie, and we all PROMISED him Minnie would be today and that if we didn’t do it, HE WOULD REGRET IT AND BE UPSET LATER. Wisely, both the kids agreed. In the meantime, as we get into line for Minnie and Pluto, the kids are on the lookout for Dad. If he WOULD JUST GET BACK than he and Rach could jump in line for Snow White and Ariel. I am standing there wondering how crazy people would think I was if I were to give Rach my photo pass and let her go stand in that line on her own, with my Eagle Eye on her the whole time. Quickly, I discard that idea as ludicrous, and realize how crazy Disney can make you. Just then, Jim arrives, with 4 Coke floats. Looking very proud of himself, indeed. And while we all thank him, we also bombard him with “Where WERE you?!” and “Daddy, take me over there!” and I quickly tell him to ask the handler if they’re done and if they’re coming back. He does, and comes back to report to a very disappointed Rachael that the princesses are done, as they have to "go get ready for Fantasmic!":sad1:
Dang. So THAT was the Coke Float Fiasco. The lesson: While you want to surprise your family with coke floats, please plan accordingly, Dads, otherwise you end up missing princesses and YOUR princess is not very pleased with you. :sad2:
Good thing they were so happy to see Minnie & Pluto! Here they are… FINALLY with Minnie:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/julezzmc/Disney%20World%202008/MinPlu1.jpg
After this, we dashed over to make seating for The Little Mermaid. Just in time! We got great seats, about 8th row center, slightly stage right, and it was AWESOME! Def. one of my fave shows, after Philharmagic. I just loved it. We all did. Amazing.
From there, we headed to F! Sat in the 3rd from last row up top in Pocahontas. Alright seats. Slightly obstructed. Kept cracking up about the wave. Never had heard anything about that previously. “Those wacky Brazilians.” we said.
I thought F! was great. I do want to see Disneyland’s version so bad though. Everyone’s who’s seen both says it’s so much better and I really want to see it. The kids adored F! Everyone thought it was very exciting and cool.
After that, we made our way out of the theater and Dad and Ebin dashed across the way to RnRC to use their FP’s. Rach and I hung out in the shop waiting. Ebin’s favorite ride of the whole trip was RnRC. Dad’s too, I think. Here’s Rach playin’ in the gift shop, and a snapshot of the ride pic:

Well, after this, we were about 10 minutes late to our 8:45 ADR to Sci-Fi Drive In. Dad loaded the kids into another abandoned stroller and I RAN across the park and checked in at 9. They took my check in- no problem!!! AWESOME! Dad and the kids pulled up, they called our party, and in we went!

We LOVED Sci-Fi. I don’t remember what the kids got. Jim got the Pastrami sandwich. YUM. I tried it and it was AWESOME. We got spinach & artichoke dip for an appetizer and I actually got another appetizer as my entrée- the 7 something-or-other chili. It was SOOOO GOOOOD. The clips were great, the kids were happy and content, DH and I had great convo on the wonderfulness of the entire trip. Just a fantastic memory overall.
After we left, it was almost 10. The park was nearly empty!

The old-time Hollywood music was playing so nice and mellow-like. The kids were chatting so happily in their stroller. Dad was actually walking at a SLOWED PACE! We went into a shop for last-minute souvies and Dad sat outside, looking up & down towards the hat. He told me to take a picture.

With one final shot, we bid farewell to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This one’s for you & Chels, CP:

Such a great update Julia! Men can be so oblivious sometimes, can't they? :lmao: Oh well! Glad your little man got to see Minnie! We missed Fantasmic this year - had to make a judgment call at that point - I'll eventually get to it in my report! ;) I'm glad you all liked it! It is a fabulous show!
Love the pic of Rachael with the rocker wig! Too funny!
Don't ya just love Sci-Fi? I love how quiet it is in there! And the kids are occupied and it's dark and the food is good....ahhh....bliss. :cloud9: It's just so Disney to me! The chili sounds great - I might have to try that next time! I've had the spinach/artichoke dip before and it is yummy!

Ok, so this "update" is a bit of a letdown as I guess when I whipped up the chapter list, I hadn't given much thought to what would be in this "Chptr 11: Oct. 13th- “I wish we could live here forever.”
So, we woke up the morning of Oct. 13th around 9-ish. Packed everything up and loaded the car and waved goodbye to Orlando! As the kids left..... they said,
"I wish we could live here forever."
The ride home was long. Uneventful. I didn't get as much sleep going home as I did getting there, as the kids would NOT go to sleep! So I was exhausted by the time we got to Illinois. Jim took over around 2am when we had about 3 hours left. We got to our driveway about 5:30 EST/4:30 CST. Went to bed and woke up around 11!
How wierd it was to have left 1 day earlier, and be in our beds the next.
Next up will be souvies, but that'll take me a minute, as I don't have TOO many pix... maybe I can scrounge them up online....

Hi Julez! I'm so sorry for going MIA on you. I've missed a lot of great updates. Thankfully, I'm all caught up now.
That's awesome that you guys were able to get so many great character pics. I especially loved those Photopass pictures! I think you may have convinced me to do the whole Photopass thing on my next trip to WDW. ;)
Oh, and I loved that picture of your DD in that wig! Rock on, girl!
Too bad your DS got so scared on ToT. Poor thing. I must confess that ToT scares me, too! :scared1: Your ToT picture is so funny. SO....
my trip report is over. :sad1:
Too bad, so sad.
It was a lot of work anyway! :rotfl:
If you just can't get enough of me, come on over to my Unicorn Club- the link is the purple Unicorn Club insignia in my siggie.
So.... my final thoughts.
I LOVED Disney World.
I can't compare it to Disneyland, as a whole, as it's totally different.
What I can compare though, I will.
Main Street, USA- I like Disneyland's better. It's more quant. More intimate. I don't mean "smaller" with a twist to make it sound cute. It just feels- homey in California. It feels- REAL. Like... charming. Not just pretty like a postcard like in Florida. But like an ACTUAL MAIN STREET AND YOU STEPPED BACK IN TIME.
Shopping. The shopping at Disneyland in Anaheim is SUPERIOR to Disney World in Florida. Let me tell you why. In addition to the little shops on Main St. and World of Disney in Downtown Disney and The Emporium on Main St., DisneyLAND has unique shops to each land in Disneyland with unique items to each land. What you want in a particular land you have to go back and get. You won't find the SAME THING in Adventureland that you find in Tommorowland, for example. I LOVED that. I was sorely disappointed with the shopping in Florida, as a result of my experience in California. And it's super cute stuff, too. Not all generic WDW stuff either, many other brands besides Disney.
The Magic Kingdom- Both are easy to navigate. They each have their pluses. The castle size- eh, who cares? A castle is a castle- both so cool. Both so beautiful. Both um, F-A-K-E! :scared1: I can't wait to go to Disneyland and actually get to go up into it and do the Sleeping Beauty walk-through. I SOOO want to buy the Blu-Ray special edition so I can do the virtual walk-through. :rolleyes1 You can't just "walk-through" Disney World's version, so .... yea...
And while Disney World has 3 parks to Disneyland's 1 other- I love that in California, you can go across the esplanade and visit a bunch of the BEST of Disney World all in one place..... Turtle Talk, Soarin', Monster's Inc (which WDW doesn't even HAVE), Toy Story Mania, Muppet Vision 3D, Playhouse Disney, the Aladdin Show (caliber of Little Mermaid show), A Bug's World 3D AND the playground (as opposed to seeing the HISTK playground in ONE park and than the HISTK movie in ANOTHER :scared: ). .... I dont' know... I just love that.
Also... I love that you can walk to DLR/DCA from your hotel. No awful traffic to deal with. Many great options to choose from with great amenities.
But wait. I know it sounds like I'm leaning toawrds DLR/DCA, but I swear I'm not. I still consider them apples and oranges. But I will take this oppurtunity to tell you diehard WDW fans to
GO TO DLR/DCA! Go after they're done w/the revamp. I'm going to! I can't wait to see Cars World. I can't wait to see the street so of 1900's San Fran and the trolleys. I can't wait for all the changes. And they're adding the new Little Mermaid ride, I believe. It's gonna be soooo awesome. It's already soooo awesome.
In the meantime.... there's more trips to plan.
So... introducing.... more trips!
#1- I did book a trip in May for me and Rach. Possibly also my sister-in-law and niece in honor of Rachael's birthday. Got a pin-code for 3nts and 3 day MYW tix for $956. Deposit is due in 1 week w/rest due in March, so whether or not I keep the ressie will remain to be seen. I doubt it, but I had to jump on it. I really want to treat her for her birthday. And my niece has never gone so I really want to take her. Unfortuneately, there's no P&P party during those dates (May3-7) so we won't be attending one, but oh well. We'll be at Pop.
#2- This one is a definite. Already cleared it with the in-laws. In honor of my & DH's anniversary on Dec. 14th and DH's 30th birthday on Dec. 20th, we'll be doing 4 nts at WDW from Dec. 6-10th and either DCL or Carnival cruise from Dec. 10th-13th or Dec.13th-17th and 17th-20th, TBD. The trip will be announced to DH in July as a week-long trip to WDW in Dec. by me. He will be surprised upon arrival there by the presense of his parents and sister (14) and the cruise! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: We'll be renting DVC points most likely, and I'm leaning towards Old Key West so far.
I'll start that PTR in July or so. Once I'm about to announce to him. Otherwise, I'll never be able to keep it a secret! :cool2:
Thanks for keeping along with me on this PTR/TR ladies and gents! It's been fun! :woohoo:
PS- Yes, I know my souvie page isn't done, I'm still workin' on it!

Yes, Photopass is a great thing! Do a group though, for the best deal! Then Snapfish or Walmart to order pix or products! WDW even sends a release if you catch any flak!
I love the wig pix too! She cracks me up!
Still workin' on the souvie pix, it's a matter of finding pix on the internet, my digi camera sucks on indoor pix....

Thanks K! The Dec. trip isn't booked yet- we're waiting to see what killer deals they come out with for the 2nd 1/2 of 2009. I'm pretty confident they'll come up w/something. Erm..... you DOOO see a ticker.... howEVER.... I had to book it by tommorow and I spent my down payment money over the weekend. :rotfl: :rotfl:
SOOOO.... I will have to see if this is gonna happen or not! I had been hoping that my SIL and niece would want to go with, and that would help cut our room cost in 1/2- BUT, over the weekend, I found out they are going to a beach house in SC in June and SIL is not interested in going to Disney any time soon. Which is so sad because my niece will be almost 11 at the time of Rach's birthday (May 4th) and she's never been! :sad1:
I'm sad to report the ticker will disappear tommorow, along with my ressie at midnight. :sad1:
Oh well. At least I'm going in Dec '09! :santa: :santa: :santa:

No no no, Jackie.
The proper response is, "I'll go w/you guys, Julia! I'll bring Chelsea- it'll be so fun!"
You can call in sick to work and so can Chels! Who cares if it's the end of the school year! :rotfl:
Yea, uh... ok...NOT! :sad2:
Any takers?

I just finished your TR (read some this morning and finished up during my lunch hour). It sounds like an amazing trip! Not everything went as planned, but does it ever? LOL
Your photopass pictures turned out wonderful. What is the cost of that? I still may look into that. I'll need to talk dh into it though lol My favorite picture is the one with you standing in front of the TOT and all acting scared :rotfl2: too cute!
Your hotel seemed beautiful. There is another place i want to stay sometime now...thanks a lot! lol
Great great great! : )

Hey! ::wave2:: Thanks for all those nice comments!
As for photopass- I joined a group on the Budget Board. 4 of us went in $20 each on the prepay $100 CD. The "group leader" burned a CD for everyone w/their pix on it after the group was done w/their photo editing. It was very easy and WAAAAAY cheaper! I'm using a ton of my free credits w/Snapfish.com to get the prints!
The hotel was pretty, I guess. We really weren't there long. I'm dying to stay onsite, but I def. would NOT hesitate to stay there again for a budget option that is clean and CLOSE! ::yes::

Ok, ladies and germs! I’m ready for my souvenir installment. If you’re reading this TR through clicks, it’s in order of the chapter list breakdown on Page 1. However, if you’re just following along ‘cuz you’re subbed, you know that I skipped to the end on that list and this is actually the conclusion of my trip report. I’ve already included Photopass snapshots and Final Thoughts so here’s what you’ve been waiting for!
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/autoemblem.jpg
Looks awesome on my Impala!

2008 magnet for my fridge!

Ebin’s loot
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/WDW434.jpg
His hat and light-saber in action!
And then we have a ton of pin pictures. DH got into pins (though not trading) so here’s his purchases:
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/jimpin.jpg
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/jimpin2.jpg
He also got a ToT pin but I can’t find a picture of it and I don’t have a digicam that can take decent indoor pix.
I bought these two for Rachael:
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/princesspin.jpg
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/sallypin.jpg
And she traded for these:
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/rachchip.jpg
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/rachsharp.jpg
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/ariel.jpg
She had lost (and has since found) two of her pins for trading so she didn’t get to trade those. This is the one she got from the CM in the WoD store for judging the Mr. Potato Head contest:
http://i407.photobucket.com/albums/pp151/julezdisney/Souvies/rachcind.jpg
Now, the only things I couldn’t find were my Mary Poppins hoodie and Alice In Wonderland long sleeve crew shirt by Vault 28 by Disney. You’ll just have to take my word for it they’re cool. Also Jim picked up a POTC skull patched ballcap in DHS on CLEARANCE (at Disney? Who'da thunk it? :confused3 ) for $8!!!! Rachael got a pink '08 Disney shirt just like Ebin's.
SO…. That’s a wrap!
For those of you subb’d- THANKS for sticking with me! It’s been fun! Although a lot of work! LOL. I think the PTR’s are def. more fun to write than the TR’s!
For those of you clickin’ through- enjoy the last couple of installments and don’t be a lurker! Drop me a line!
Of course, you guys know that I have a Dec. ‘09 trip lined up for planning. Our little family + the in-laws. Now I’m also planning on going in 2010. The Mickey Marcettes and I are headed off in April-ish for Flower & Garden. I also desperately want to get back in Oct. or to take Rachael in May for her birthday to WDW or Disneyland.
But unfortunately, my dreams are bigger than my checkbook so we’ll have to see how things pan out. I’ll try my hardest to refrain from starting a PTR for Dec. until at least June. And I’m active in other’s reports so thank goodness for that! I’m addicted to the DIS that’s for sure.
So- it’s been fun! Thanks for coming and….
“See ya real soon!”

Cool souvenirs! I must, must, must get kitchen stuff on the next trip -- I cannot tell you how many times I am doing stuff in the kitchen and I wish I had gotten some Mickey kitchen things.
I know what you mean about the checkbook -- you know, monthly bills really eat into my traveling.
