WTG Luckywife!!! That's awesome!

I'm down 1 pound this week. Did well on last weeks COW's other than the water intake. Eventually I will get ALL that water down!!

To get started on one of next weeks COWS, we are to discuss how relationships effect our weight loss. I have a few friends who are always very positive, always cheering me on. It doesn't matter if I'm having a good day or a bad one, they're always there to cheer me on, pick me up, whatever needs to be done in a positve way. I have others who don't put an effort into their health, so they don't understand why I would. There are others in my circle who are sabotagers (sp?) and say "Oh, one *insert food/drink* isn't going to kill you." I also have others who are evaders. They tend to be the ones who don't pay attention to their own health, so it kind of goes hand in hand. So, my successes can depend alot on who I'm hanging out with more. If I'm around the negative people, it's easy to fall back into my old habits. If I'm around the positive ones, they are the ones who help keep me on track. Postive attitudes really DO made a huge difference!!!

What did everyone have for breakfast today? I started my day off with oatmeal! +5 for this weeks COW!

I'm also buying pumpkins to carve this weekend and some Halloween cards to send out and surprise a few people. :)

Have a great day everyone!

Congrats all you losers...I gained 4 lbs! :scared1: That's what happens when you eat anything the vending machine will give you! And I am scared because I don't feel the motivation to get back up and going!

Sarah

Sarah,

Hang in there. I too gained this week.

Forgive me because you didn't ask for any advice or comments. And this blabbering might not be relevant to you. But this is something I feel very strongly about. And it's for you but it's also selfishly for me to vent. I truly believe that if you gained four pounds in one week - well you're being too strict the other weeks. A body just shouldn't do that. What I mean that "regular" people - who stay at a good weight - don't have those sways.

I have lost over sixty pounds but I've done it very slowly without restricting any food. Just trying to be more conscious with it all. Ie. eating when I'm hungry and stopping when I'm full. Not always successful of course. But I decided years ago that I never wanted to be the weight loss winner who goes on a vacation and gains 10 pounds. Never. I know it works for some - but I don't want it in my life. I truly believe that your body gets used to what we do to it. So if you're eating a certain way - well to all of us - can you eat that way for life? If you're exercising a certain way - can you keep up the schedule for llife?

I have no idea why I'm up two pounds. Great week. Same as most. However, I integrated a stretching/ballet/pilates program in my rotation for the last two or three weeks. And I've slowed down the losses and now gained. That meant that some of my aerobic workouts got replaced. Had to - it's an hour program. And guess what my body is probably saying - hey we got used to a certain amount of aerobics - what the heck is going on? Yet my waist is smaller probably from the new routine. What to do?

I truly believe we all have to make sure we can do it now and especiallly every day forever. Otherwise, bodies react big time.

So Sarah - you will probably have a nice loss next week for sure. Hang in there. I'm frustrated as well.

Sorry for the rant. But it helped me too!!!!:lovestruc

Question of the Day - Friday 10/17

If you could pick one trainer for a day, would it be Bob, or Jillian? Why?

VernRDH
10-17-2008, 10:25 AM
Hi teamies!

I am a maintainer this week. Even though I ran 5x for 22 miles this week, I am a maintainer. I seem to be having trouble with where to set my calories with all the running. Plus I am pushing a bit harder with my running, and can feel my hamstrings and quads getting better/bigger/tighter whatever.

But maintaining is okay. I was a loser last week, so hopefully next week will be a loser too.

lisa violet, I sooo love your attitude! None of us got to where we stared this journey over night (took me 20 years to get to my highest weight) and if it takes 3 or 4 years to take off 100 pounds then so be it. I am not giving anything up, but have found that foods I used to go nuts over sometimes just don't "do it" for me anymore. Guess that is my body's way of telling me something.:rolleyes1

I ran 7 miles today, as I have now officially started my training for the 2010 WDW Half Marathon!!!:woohoo: I have a few friends from around the country who will be running too and then we are taking a cruise after the race. I am anticipating my time right now to be 2 hours 30 minutes for the 1/2, but am hoping that with more training and weight loss, I can get that time down a little. But even so, it is okay no matter what time I finish in, just so long as I finish.

Well off to get some things done, today is DH's b-day and he is home today. Gotta go to the grocery store, the library, pet store, such a busy day! But will make sure to take my water with me!

Have a good day friends!

If you could pick one trainer for a day, would it be Bob, or Jillian? Why?

For me, hands down, it would be Bob. I like Jillian, I just don't think I could take her cussing at me and screaming in my face lol. I think she's a good trainer, she just wouldn't work for me.

Thank you everyone for the compliments. I agree with slow and steady being the best way to do this. I maintained last week so I figured this week would be pretty good.

Sarah...don't give up! You've been doing SO well and I KNOW you can do it! I understand how you feel, it does get frustrating at times, but this is just a little bump in the road that you can get through. Remember, your team is HERE FOR YOU! :goodvibes

I want to tell everyone congratulations, no matter if you lost, maintained or even gained. This is our 6th week and still being commited to this and still trying is a great accomplishment and one to be proud of, no matter what the scale says.

That is difficult to know. Very. I remember when Oprah was training for her marathon, she gained. :scared1: Because she had to do long and slow day after day and her body was used to shorter and more intensity.

Congrats on the maintain. Onward for us all.

This is why you CAN NOT focus on the "number." Only use it as a snapshot. You can be up or down 2 - 3 pounds over the course of a day just by eating, going to the bathroom, workingout & sweating, etc.

I gained this week but it was not unexpected. Again a busy life is getting in the way, together with an injury that won't go away (but Dr. says "nothing is wrong") UGH!

I know. I know Christa. Thank you. I don't normally go on and on it. It's just that two was such a shock for my week. I could handle a gain that is expected. And I'm sure I'll have one.

And I'm unfortunately an obsessive personality - which doesn't make the scale a good tool for me. Rational thinking is difficult for me.

So I got on again and only a half a pound gain now? An hour later? You would think it would be up - not down. And I checked it twice. And I haven't PMed Brenda so honestly I don't know what to report. Maybe I should report a weight in between the two. I know, I know thinking too much.

I'm going back to once a month after the BL ends. Most of my weightloss in the begininng was not scale based. I never went on except for physicals once in a while. And lost lots. But BL makes it come off much more quickly - like 10 times as fast - because I am conpetitive and more diligent. :lmao: :rotfl:

Thanks Christa,

Lisa

Congratulations to all the LOSERS! Hugs to maintainers and gainers...hang in there, your time will come!

I had a great week. Down 2 more lbs! I'd sort of hit a plateau, due to vacation, and now I'm on my way down again. Since I started WW I've lost 18.5 lbs, in 2 months! I'm happy. Down a pants size!

I earned 60 COW points this week!!:cool1:

Keep up the good work! I'm off to read the new COW for this week!

I would pick Jillian. I know she is hard, but that is what I need. She would not put up with my excuses.

I have lost 4 lbs this past week and have hit 41 lbs lost. I hope I can keep it going. Have a great week all.

Hi red teammates -
I haven't posted recently, but did check in -- I'm down 2 pounds! Since the beginning of Sept., I'm down 8.5 pounds with WW. My clothes are finally starting to fit again -- esp. those that had "shunk in the wash."!

I've got a "pink party" to go to tonight (for breast cancer awareness) and really need to be on my best behavior food wise (well, and manners-wise as well I guess!). I've already had a spurge food today, which makes having two special events tough.

I'd pick Bob as my trainer. I tend to get competitive/defensive around strong women, so Jillian would be out.

CharityLynn
10-20-2008, 07:04 AM
I'd pick Jillian, I like her toughness. I maintained this past week. I'm getting sick now and I have an injury so this is not going to be a good week at all.

IlliniMouse
10-20-2008, 08:23 AM
It must be the week for injuries. My back is giving me fits. I can't even sleep in my bed. :sad2: I'm frustrated by it because I don't think I'll make my exercise goal for the month, and by not being able to exercise I'm scared I'll fall off the wagon. I don't think I'll make the maximum for the 6000 steps COW this week, but I'm hoping I can make it at least once!!!

Let's pull together team and show what we're made of!!! We have yet to be the BL winner for a week. Let's make THIS week our week to shine! Healthy, injured, special events to go to, nothing going on-doesn't matter. Give it your all and we'll be able to do it!!!

Good morning, everyone! I hope you had a good weekend. I did... I did 8 miles on Saturday WELL under the time limit I need for the Tower of Terror race on the 25th. I have plenty of time to finish, so I don't have to panic about it. I won't break any land speed records or anything, and I can't dally, but finishing shouldn't be a problem!

Question of the Day - Friday 10/17

If you could pick one trainer for a day, would it be Bob, or Jillian? Why?

I'm a little bit behind on this one, but I think I'd choose Bob. Jillian and I would just get in a fight, I think. I don't regularly watch biggest loser, so she may have changed, but I don't usually enjoy getting yelled at and made to feel small. I don't mind a little harsh motivation, but some of the stuff she says to people is just wrong (for me. I know people that it would work great for!). If she and I could come to some sort of understanding about what is off limits to yell at me about, I'd probably pick her.

How's the challenge going for everyone? I'm doing well, I think. The walking and breakfast are normal behaviors for me, so no worries there. Leaving the office is hard. I work at home and tend to work right through lunch to get done, so that will be a challenge. We're also supposed to discuss relationships, so here goes...

My DH is great. It used to be, when I'd try to lose weight, he be so sad at seeing me miserable that he'd bring me stuff like cupcakes. I don't think he was trying to sabatoge me, exactly, I think he just wanted to see me not miserable. I'm not sure what's different this time (maybe I have a better attitude?) but he's great! He doesn't offer me stuff like sweets. If I really want something like a candy bar, he'll split it with me and give me a third of it, which is usually plenty. He's also really supportive when I order something at a restaurant and decide it's not worth it. Like at Starbucks. I love their mochas, but sometimes you get a new person making it or something and it's just not good. I used to drink it anyway, because it was a lot of money! Now I'll dump it. Yeah, it hurts to throw out 5 bucks, but he is the first to say that I probably get $5 worth of enjoyment out of throwing away the calories instead of eating what I don't want.

Then there's my best friend. She is also trying to lose weight. She's not so supportive, but wants to be. You know how sometimes when you're working toward a goal with someone, one of you is more motivated? Well... this time it's me that's more motivated. I really have to struggle to eat right with her, because I'll easily fall back into bad habits. She's doing great with exercise, but not so great with food, so I have to be very careful when we're alone. However, the good part about both of these people is that they'll love me no matter what. Of that I am absolutely certain. There aren't many other people in my life at the moment since I work at home (geez... i REALLY need to get out more!), so I don't have a lot of variety of others to deal with. My family will be mostly supportive over the holidays I think - except for my parents "you better clean that plate" looks. Overall - I think I'm pretty lucky!

Hi All!

How is everyone's week so far?? I'm not doing great, but doing ok. Made snickerdoodle cookies this weekend and ate far too many!

Working on the COW. I've been doing great with the breakfasts, and that's about it!
5 Discuss with the group how your relationships effect your weigh loss. Are these people enablers? How can you work around that? Do they love you no matter what? How does that help or harm your efforts? Discuss (10 points)
My DH is doing WW with me, as are my children. I feel we are all supporting each other, no one enabling or sabotaging anyone else. Since I'm the only one who cooks or shops, nothing is being brought in without my approval! My family does love me no matter what :lovestruc and we really are all trying to help each other. Friends....everyone who knows has been supportive. Its been pretty great actually!

Hang in there ladies! Lets see big losses this week!

I've used fitday.com in the past. Not so much recently though. I've also heard of sparkpeople, but I've never really looked at it. I think I'll do some exploring today.

Btw.... do any of you have any good exercises for the quads? I've been told to avoid squats and lunges, at least for the short term, and would like to replace them with something. Anyone have any ideas?

Hear Ye Hear Ye, the Weightkeeper speaks

If our challenge runs for 15 weeks we have completed 1/3 of it so far. We still do not have an ending date yet. You will be notified when an ending date is determined. After 5 weeks I like to take a look at things and see what the numbers say. That will be a separate post later. For now lets look at week 5.

We started the week with 111 participants. This week 10 folks have been removed for not reporting for three weeks and we have two newcomers. So we are now at 103 participants. 45 folks of our 103 did not report for the week. That's 43%. I'm not happy with that number. But what can a loving weightkeeper do? We are adults here and know how the challenge works. Please report in EVERY week

-------------------Black Team-----Blue Team-----Red Team-----Total
started week---------36-------------37-------------38-----------111
removed---------------3--------------4--------------3------------10

weigh ins for week-----17-------------19-------------21-----------57

Red Team Week 5

21 weigh ins
7 gains totaling 12.8 lbs
4 maintains
10 losses totaling 20.6 lbs

Weekly net loss 7.8 lbs
3 removed from challenge with losses totaling 9.4 lbs
Cumulative net loss 111.1 lbs

Now for this weeks PSA (public service announcement). I am going out of town. I will have the laptop with me and will have secure internet access the entire time I am gone. I am planning on having some fun beside DIS fun so next weeks announcement may be late. There you have been warned.

Now let's get down to business. Let's look at our Red Team Superstars.

Atkins is the one I seem to visit the most. I need to keep up to date on what I can and cannot eat on my diet.

Question of the Day - Tuesday

What are your non-weight goals for getting healthy?

Being able to run and play with my kids. Just a few weeks back I took my daughter to the park and was able to run up and slide with her.

I would also love to wear a size 8. I don't think I was ever a size 8. It will sure feel nice when I get there. I plan to buy a whole new wardrobe and I will have a bunch of stores I have never been able to shop at before to buy it!!

Question of the Day - Tuesday

What are your non-weight goals for getting healthy?

Sorry this is so late...was not at a computer all day until now.

Good morning!

Goals... let's see.... I'd love to do a marathon, but I don't know if my knees and ankles can handle it, so I'll say do a half marathon - running the whole thing. I'd also like to do at least a portion of the Appalachian Trail. I can totally picture myself with my hubby and dog, dressed in stylish (not just "well, it fits so it will have to do") outdoorsy clothes hiking along, looking like I belong in the woods... Cheesy, huh? :) I'm also secretly (or not so secretly now!) hoping that losing weight might have an effect on fertility. We've pretty much given up on it, but I'm still hoping a little bit... And my totally superficial goal is to curl up on the couch in jeans and a sweater with my legs pulled up under me and have a cup of coffee. And be comfy. Totally comfy with no pinching by the jeans and no feeling like there's too much of me and not enough of the couch!

Wow... I feel really shallow today... Oh well. We're all entitled occasionally, right?

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Question of the Day - Monday

What diet/exercise websites do you visit?
I go on the weight watchers web site occasionally but mainly to find a recipe. I love DWLZ- dottie's weight loss zone to check for ww points before I go out to a restaurant. It's great to know ahead how many points things are and I will plan what I am going to eat before hand, or have a few ideas and choices.

Question of the Day - Tuesday

What are your non-weight goals for getting healthy?

Being able to keep up with my son who is six. When I started ww 3 years ago, he was 3, and when he ran, I would get so winded trying to keep up with him, but when I'm exercising regularly, it's so much easier and more fun to get out and play. I also want to be around for him for many years, and as I age, I want to be strong and independant, and I don't want to have the weight related health problems so many of our past generation has. My mom has diabetes, heart, and kidney disease, and has had so many problems, I want to prevent what is preventable, and be as healthy as possible. I also have a variety of clothing in smaller sizes to get into.

Congratulations Molli!!! Our biggest loser!!! Whoo hoo!! Congratulations to the rest of the top ten. :cheer2:

I was surprised to see my name there with a small loss last week. It is motivating me to get my butt in gear and get back on track.
I haven't had a very good week eating wise, but I am recommitting to stay on track now.

Hang in there everyone!! We can be the biggest losers!!!!

You're not shallow at all!! Those are great goals. There is so many cute hiking clothes out there. I hven't hiked much, but this summer, we climbed a little mountain in Maine, it was a 1.6 mile hike, and it was so much fun and great exercise. You never know what can affect your fertility. I'm sure it's been a tough road.
I know what you mean about the jeans on the couch. :rotfl: I don't even try. I love my pajamas with a cup of tea. Just can't do that with company.

OK, I'm behind but I just read the week's threads.

50 pounds--wow! I'm jealous. |Congrats!

I'm down a pound. I really lightened up on the workout. I had increased it significantly and was VERY sore and stiff. Kept thinking it would get better, but it didn't. SO, I took a couple days off from the gym and am now back doing 2 miles instead of 3+ and less elevation. I plan to increase a little each day.

Which trainer? Probably Bob. I love Jillian, but her "mean, " in your face style would only last while I'm with her. Bob seems to be more into psychologically figuring out what's happening...and that would probably last longer with me.

How people around me affect my eating....I really need to be stronger with the "won't power." No one made me eat a piece of chocolate yesterday just because a friend brought a box to a meeting. DD (17) can be helpful and hurtful. Helpful because she will ask if something is good for me, but hurtful in that she likes to have food around the house which I really shouldn't have. The bottom line is that only I am responsible for what goes into my mouth.

OK...a total of 6 down so far. If I lose a pound per week (a very do-able goal), I'll be a whole lot down before WDW trip and a whole lot more down before the cruise. Think consistency.......

Question of the Day - Wednesday

Do you reward yourself for reaching goals? If so how?

Yes, I do. It's never anything major but I like to do something special for myself when I reach a goal, even the small ones. Last month when I hit the weight I had set for myself, I went shopping and out to lunch with my best friend. I bought myself a new outfit and that was my reward for that goal. I've got another goal set for myself (I measure mine in reaching a certain weight) and have about 5 more pounds to reach it so I'm planning to do something special for myself again. I feel like it gives me something to look forward to once a month or so.

Hope everyone is having a good week :goodvibes

Question of the Day - Wednesday

Do you reward yourself for reaching goals? If so how?

Not really because I seem to reward myself all the time.

Seriously, though, I haven't been on the weight loss journey long enough to have reached any goals, so I'm not sure how I'll reward myself, if at all.

I do make monthly exercie goals for myself and don't do anything in particular when I reach my goals. I just know I'm happy as heck to have made them. :)

[QUOTE=disneychrista;28292584]Question of the Day - Tuesday

What are your non-weight goals for getting healthy?

I want to be able to shop outside of the plus department, do an event at WDW, be able to participate in things that I normally don't because of my weight, and to be honest on my drivers license! :lmao: (Although that's weight based, it's also an honesty thing. :) )

As for our no #1s for our team - personally I'm not worried or bummed. I know we'll get there. And all of us plugging along to our goals is more important to me than a win. And this comes from a very competitive girl. :lmao:

Here's to you RED!!!!!
