Three Ladies
TK - if you all don't know me by now...just kidding! For those of you who haven't had the benefit of reading my crazy pre-trip report or wading through my currently in progress trip report...
Hi, my name is TK, and I love Captain Jack Sparrow. And Disney. In no particular order...well, let's be honest...that's a big ole toss up right there! :lmao: I've been taking trips to the World since I was a kid, and have many, many fond memories. For some of those memories, see the aforementioned reports. :thumbsup2
Mom - That's my Mom! She really started it. In the sense that she helped further my love of Disney probably more than anyone else in the world, or the World for that matter. Some of my favorite Disney memories are from my college days. When I was a cast member at the Disney Store, and used to get in for free, or even after I left, and we would get annual passes and go 2-3 times a year. Those were the days, my friends. And we've had a great time.
Nana - That's my mom's mom! You follow? ;) My Nana is fantastic. And I mean that in every sense of the word. There are so many things I could write about her that wouldn't even be the tip of the iceburg. I love her, and my mom so much. Quit crying, people, or pull out the kleenex! ;) And Nana shares the love of Disney as well. Except we don't do Disney quite like everyone else does...you'll see what I mean.:thumbsup2
and...
HRH - That's my little peanut! My son. My three year old full of energy, go, go, go, little peanut. For those of you who know us already, you're probably wondering why the initials HRH come into play. Why is it three ladies and HRH taking on the World? Well, you see my friends, mom and I have a little joke going. She watches my son for me while I work part time, and I'll e-mail when I get the chance to find out how his day and hers are going. Now, I don't remember which one of us started the royal analogy, but it just stuck. HRH is his royal highness. We also refer to the royal bedchamber, the royal luncheon, the royal you name it. And we couch these e-mails in all manner of royal speak. Now you know what a fun lovin' bunch we are.
And so it begins.

Well, of course Three Ladies and HRH stay deluxe.
I mean, what else? ;)
In all seriousness, this has some grounding in a vacation that happened a while ago. A vacation I wasn't on. A vacation taken by Mom and Nana.
Let's travel back, shall we? May 2008. Mom and Nana take their annual girlie let's go to Disney and eat and drink and shop during Flower and Garden Festival and just have a spectacularly fabu good time. That's Mom and Nana, savvy? ;)
Now, since I've become so well versed on the Dis Boards, I am fully aware of the promotion called bounceback in all its glory. And before Mom left for said May Girlie Extravaganza, I pretty much read her the riot act about bounceback. Me, you say? The riot act? Certainly not, not TK.
Oh yes. I laid the smackdown. And then some.
Well, not really. I used the oldest trick in the book, folks. "Mom, will you puh-lease check for a bounceback because there could really be a good deal and maybe we could even stay in a deluxe hotel and sometimes you can get 30-40% off and..." You'll all shortly see where my son gets his loquaciousness from.;)
Now when I was talking about bounceback, I wasn't on the same page as Mom and Nana. I was hoping that this would be for the following year, as I know sometimes Disney will do that. But this particular bounceback was actually a little bit closer in date. So Mom and Nana came back from their trip, and somehow, every time I asked my mother if there was a bounceback she would change the subject.
Funny, that.
Hmm.
Every. Single. Time.
Well, I think she might have lasted two-three days before they broke the news. They booked.
Bounceback.
At the Yacht Club.
Oh yes, the Yacht Club. In December. Holiday decorations. Boat to Epcot / MGM. NoDHS. Holiday decorations.
And not only that, they wanted to take me. Just for the weekend. Just me. For a girls only trip. And by wanting to take me, I meant, they were paying for everything. They had an old pass I could use, and they decided instead of more stuff I don't need for my birthday, well they'd just give me a trip to Disney.:yay:
I know you're all wondering now where the HRH came into play. How is this trip not just three ladies? Well, there's a lot of reasons that went into that deciding factor, and I'm not going to share them all. Some are personal and the inner workings of my mind...well, let's just say it's not for the faint of heart.
However, I can tell you that three days in the World just didn't seem like enough for all the things we wanted to do. Four days sounded much, much better. But four days logistically wasn't working. Even though I could get the time off from my job (that's a whole other ball of wax), I certainly can't ask DH to take time off from his just to watch DS so I can go play in the World. And if you all don't know why, see my ptr for my last trip. That'll give you a decent handle on his work situation. And if you don't feel like wading through all that, I'll give you the short version. DH has little to no PTO. There, that'll about do it.
So I was hemming and hawing, and getting ready to turn Mom and Nana down.
I know, I know. You all can put down the torches and pitchforks, okay?
Because then it dawned on me.
If we brought HRH, we could easily do four days. Because I had the time off. And he's certainly portable. ;) And amenable. We'll get to that later.
Anyway, it was starting to look better.
Could Mom do it? Could she change our bounceback dates, retain the rate and the hotel, and get three nights instead of four????
I would love to do a cliffhanger here, but I think you'll would riot and hit unsubscribe faster than you can say TK LOVES JACK SPARROW.:lmao:
In short, she could.
So we're going. To the World. In December. December 6 - 9, 2008, to be exact. That's a Saturday to a Tuesday. The flight times? Liveable. The cast? EXCITED!
The plans?
Coming soon...

I love Christmas it is my favorite time of year, so when I got an email from Disney with a code for free dining in December I looked into it and my dh said book it. So of course I did. Well now he is coming up with all these excuses as to why we can't afford it. Well I pay the bills and I know we can. We were going to go in May anyways for our 10 year anniversary so why not go now when it is cheaper. He wants to buy a snow blower!?!? We are still "talking" about it. I think if he cancels I will just go by myself. This will be the 3rd time in 4 years that something came up and we didn't go. Sorry for rambling on your thread but I am a little frustrated and I know the people on the Dis will listen.

Yup.
This pre trip report isn't going to be your typical pre trip report. There is no chronological order here, my friends. Because this just ain't your typical trip to the World. So we're going to talk about it like Mom and I do, savvy?
On the fly. At the spur of the moment. In the middle of completely different conversations totally not pertaining to Disney we can be known to say, so dinner at ___insertrestauranti'mnotrevelaingyethere___ and know exactly what the other one is talking about. Yes. That's the intuition of mother and daughter and the intuition of love of Disney all wrapped into one, my friends.
So here we are going forward a bit, after the planning, but still sort of back. Because it happened yesterday. But we'll start with today. With me? :upsidedow
So today Mom and Nana are going to the World. Yup, you read that right. They're going for a long weekend to partake in MNSSHP and nosh on some nummy food and have a fabu girlie good time. See, since we kicked the family out of our September trip, and they've never missed an MNSSHP since its inception, they decided they certainly weren't going to start now. There are a lot of emotions tied up with MNSSHP. More on that later.
Anyway, Mom was watching DS for me while I worked yesterday. And he saw her suitcases. And later, he said to her, "_____ (will not be revealing special nickname he has for her, some things should stay private but it's dang cute), I go to DisneyWorld." Oh that little smartie. He saw those suitcases and put two and two together. She never said anything, never told him where she was going, but he thought they were going to Disney. Right then. He proceeded to tell her it was a long way. And you go on the airplane. And then she told him they would go in December.
Now he's three. So December to him means five minutes from now. We're not clear on months yet.
So that's how the boy found out he's due for another trip to the World.
HRH and three ladies in December. The conversation was longer, and cuter, but that's all I have time for this morning when I should be showering and heading to work.
Dang work. Gets in the way of my DIS time. ;)

Or, as I like to call it, moments of trepidation.
The most recent of which came last night as DH and I were snuggling on the couch, watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on tv. Even though DH tried to watch Ben 10 Alien Force. I veteod him. He listened. God bless him, he knows not to stand between me and Harry. :lmao:
Anyway, I've had several moments of "what was I thinking?" about this trip. I'm not going to lie about it. The best way to conquer your fear is to admit that you have it, acknowledge it exists, and decide to move past it.
So that's what we're doing. We're going to talk about my moments of trepidation. Prefaced with a little history.
See, the last time I went to the World with Mom and Nana, just the three of us, was oh, so many moons ago. Before DS was even a twinkle in my eye. He was almost a twinkle, but not quite...so let's say that was almost five years ago.
Now, when we three ladies take on the World we do it in quite the leisurely fashion. We christen our trip by heading to Epcot, and getting champagne in France. We toast each other, and remark on how grateful we are to be there again, with each other. We shop around the World Showcase, we go on the rides we feel like, and we eat.
Really, really, really LONG, lesiurely meals. Pretty much once a day, with snack type things thrown in here and there. And our park touring and everything we do is fairly centered around whatever the coveted ADR of the day is. Because my mother is something of a connosieur. And she knows what she wants. NoTiaDalma. She wants good food, and good service. And let's face it. Although sometimes hit or miss, I find some of the best food and service can be had in the World. Mom and I are well versed in the offerings, shall we say. We have our favorites, and we know what we like.
So you can see how those trips were? Life without children. Well, at least for me, since I am their daughter / granddaughter. You get the idea. Life without a little one.
How could we possibly marry what they like to do with my three year old toddler? Leisurely? I could see that. Strolling around the World Showcase...as long as we have his stroller and an ECV for Nana. (More on that later.) The coveted LONG meal at I'mNotNamingTheADRsYet? DISASTER! DISASTER, I SAY!!! And when I say long, let me put into perspective for you. Would you like to know how many nights we actually were the last guests out of Epcot? Because we had a late ADR at Alfredo's, a waiter we loved who knew us by name, and nothing but time on our hands? A waiter who would let us stop in the middle of our meal, take our wine glasses out into the World Showcase, watch Illuminations, come back, and resume from wherever we were? Yup. That long. Think 2-3-4 hours long. And yes, your butt does hurt. And it really does kill the magic when as soon as you walk to the other side of that exit and head towards the monorail, they cut the music in the park. ;)
I was doubtful. About how this would work. About a lot of things. I just feel like I can't fully put it into words.
And last night I was struck by an almost paralyzing fear. You may laugh, if you must. You may find me childish, or immature, or whatever you like. But we're talking about fears, and fears are not rational my friends.
I was struck by the fear of leaving DH.
Of travelling without him, with the boy. On multiple levels. On the level that I would miss him. On the level that all the things he normally does on a trip would fall onto my shoulders. On the level that I just hate to fly. I do it, and I maintain my calm for the boy's sake because I don't want him to have my fears. I want him to grow up untouched by my psychosis...well, as much as possible, anyway.
Not that Mom won't help. A point which I made to her quite thoroughly. And I don't mean that in a bad way. I'm not a wimp. I can handle my son. But we're talking about the woman who loves to spoil him. Who if he was having a meltdown over candy would probably just hand it to him. Savvy?
I have been paralyzed with fear over so much of this trip.
But Mom and I began a more open dialogue. About what my expectations were, and what hers were. I talked so much about not going. Even after she had bought our airfare, even after we had booked ADRs for all of us. I was still on the fence. I just couldn't fathom it. I couldn't fathom how it would possibly work, how we could possibly do it.
And then two key things happened.
The women who were so in love with the long meal, so in love with the coveted ADR to suchandsuchplace said words I never, ever, ever thought would come out of their mouths...
"TK, listen. If you're worried about our reservations and DS, we don't care about them. We'll eat counter service the whole time, if that's what we need to do. All that matters is that we're there together."
:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
Dost mine ears decieve me? Did the women just offer to give up the coveted ADRs if my toddler is cranky or tired, or we just can't make it for some unforseen reason I haven't even thought of yet?
They did.
Score one for Mom and Nana. :lmao:
And the second thing.
With the boy. And the, "I go to Disney World in December, Mama."
Yes, peanut. Yes, you do.
And I realized something about this trip, and about all my fears, rational, irrational or otherwise. They were just fears. Some may come true, some may not, but that's not what matters.
What matters, is how I handle the situations that come my way. So it wasn't so much that anything about this trip changed, but that I, myself, changed.

I have a feeling you'll be hearing that or some variation on the theme a lot from HRH b/w now and Dec so wanted to give you some practice. ;)
Being the last people out of Epcot. That sounds pretty cool! And what a great waiter to let you take a break from the meal and go out to watch Illuminations. That would be awesome!
And your mom and Nana ROCK!! Willing to do counter service if that's what it takes. True love. :goodvibes

You know, I've actually heard this before! And it's not where you would think. My son says this every day when I bring him to preschool, starting about a 1/2 mile away. He loves school. :thumbsup2

He was amazing. That's a flashback tale for another time. Suffice it to say our relationship with him spanned several years, numerous e-mails, meeting his beautiful wife who worked Concierge at the Grand Flo, and sadly, wishing them well as they eventually moved on to something else.
And your mom and Nana ROCK!! Willing to do counter service if that's what it takes. True love. :goodvibes
I don't know if I can explain the import of that statement. That they were willing to give up the so coveted fine dining was a real clincher for me. It showed flexibility I wasn't aware existed.

Alright, I stand corrected. However, that was the only time we did that during our trip, and the company was outstanding. Not that Mom and Nana aren't. Just that its tough to imagine that kind of patience from your toddler every day. Perhaps I should employ the ole Tinkerbellarella trick of the handy dandy gift bag. ;) (Which by the way, he loves that Wall E toy.)

You knew this was coming, right?
Well, maybe you didn't. Maybe this is the first time you've ever ready my slowly growing collected works. In that case, allow me to introduce you to my obession with perfection.
In the way of clothes and shoes that is.
Now, being that we've already been to the World this year, you would think we'd be all set, right?
Wrong.
Since we're going in December, truthfully, I'm just not sure what to expect for weather. I know it could be nice and we could be wearing shorts, or it could be cold like it is in January, and I would be grateful for layers, and a coat.
So here's the thing.
I don't really have non-work shoes. I mean, nice casual shoes. I have sneakers, and a wide array of flip flops, and then some work shoes. And let's face it. When I look down at my tootsies during the four glorious days I'm going to spend in the World in December, the LAST thing I want to think about is work.
'Nuff said.
So not only is time for new shoes, it's also time for a new wardrobe. Well, not entirely new, but who doesn't like some new things for their trip? I dare you, speak now! ;)
So I've been doing a slew of ordering. I mean, the credit card weeps, it really does. But I know something that...well maybe you do know. The sad reality of my binge shopping, is that I'll end up returning 50-75% of it. Because that's how I shop. I don't like the process of going to the store. It's rare that I do that, at least in regard to clothes. And perhaps it's because I spend so much time on our basic household needs like groceries and tolietries that really the last thing I want to do is spend time trying on and off clothes that may or may not fit in bad lighting with three way mirrors. :sad2:
I prefer to do that trying on process in the privacy of my home. Where there's no one to laugh at my winter fat but my family. But they don't, god bless 'em. DH has seen me at many different sizes and loves them all. I should say, he just loves me. Good man. :goodvibes
So here's the first of our royal conquests, because it really just wouldn't be a TK PTR without some pictures of my feet. :lmao:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0248.jpg
Some of you may recognize these pretty babies from my previous shoe quandaries. Suffice it to say, I've been coveting these Tevas for some time, and Shoebuy finally had a 20% off code. And because of my customer loyalty (read I buy from them a lot) I got an additional 10% off of that. All told, I believe these cost me under $50. Actually, I just checked and they were $46.76. Which is great considering how cute they are! And the fact that they fit like a glove. And that they retail for $64.95. I am a woman who loves a deal, people. Now, Shoebuy only had the black color, and I was iffy on them on the internet, but they look just adorable in person. Really, really cute, like my footwear has personality. I think for you to understand how exciting these are to me, I'd have to show you the severity of my work shoes. BO-RING!
The artist in me likes the pretty flowers. :flower3:
Only problem is I'm not fond of the fit with socks. Which is sort of an issue, because I suffer from stinkyfeetitis. It's bad. I sweat through my feet. That's TMI, I realize, but a sad reality. It's from my dad's side. :lmao:
Anyway, I really do like these, and I'm not afraid to committ. I'm going to wear them around the house and see if they break in well, but I swear, they feel like slippers! And fairly good arch support. I'm surprised by it!
Now will they be good for the World? I have no idea. It depends on if it's shoes without socks weather. I guess only time will tell.
And normally, I'd end the post right there, but I have one more thing to add.
My boy is growing like a weed! And I've had a recent panic over some pants that he just cannot wear anymore. So I've ordered him a SLEW of pants in the past couple of days, some from Kohl's, some from Old Navy, and we're just going to see what fits. Because not only does he need them for the World, he needs them for preschool!
So there you go.
Let the shopping begin.
The returns will follow. :lmao:

The dressing room antics made me laugh out loud. On my past vacation I had to take my younger niece to the bathroom. I had to go myself, and since no one else had come with us she had to stay in the stall with me. I was almost overcome with the giggles when she told me she wanted to check out what I looked like in my more private areas. When I told her no, she had to look away she was adament that she knew what her mom looked like so why not? :lmao: I think I heard the woman in the stall next to me giggle.

I know you've all been waiting for this one, right?
DYING to know the plans! The schedule. The itinerary. The royal goings on.
And you'll hear about them. In due course.
Because as much as I anticipate this trip...anxiously, nervously, excitedly, that's how I want you to feel about hearing our plans. Take the journey with me, my friends.
Let's not talk about how many times these plans have changed. Let's just run with what we have, because Mom and I have worked on this so many times, it's not something I care to discuss anymore. ;) In all seriousness, originally this was just a girls trip. And the plans were more befitting the royal ladies, without so much consideration for his royal highness. Once we added him in, some shuffling needed to be done.
I can distinctly remember the day we sat down and I made a list from memory of each of the things, whether it be viewing Christmas decorations or going on particular rides, and Mom and I hashed it all out. How could we best do everything.
Well, we really couldn't do everything in four days. But we could sure as heck cram in what was most important to us, with careful consideration of two members of our party.
HRH.
And Nana.
Now, HRH for the obvious reasons. He's 3, and you can only expect so much, savvy? And having gone in September, we well know what to expect. :thumbsup2
Now, Nana, for not so obvious reasons. Suffice it to say we don't want to run the poor woman ragged! Not that she's not game for it. She will keep on trucking and plugging along until she's ready to fall asleep. Literally. But I don't want to embarass her in case she and Mom ever get their hot little hands on this. Let's just say it's important to be respectful of everyone in your party and what they'd like to do. Plus, Nana needs an ECV. It took A LOT to get to this point. To get to the point of her acknowledging it was a good idea. And it's really a necessity for Epcot, where there's SO much walking involved, and we do love the World Showcase. So bear in mind we're dealing with a very strong-minded woman who raised a very strong-minded daughter who in turn raised another strong-minded daughter.
It can certainly make things interesting. However, if we'd like to get into deep pyschology and talk about birth order, I'm the baby in the family. I have one older sister. Therefore, as the second child, I often embody the role of the pacifist. The moderator. The one who can dispell the tension in any given situation. It comes in handy, but it's a tough job, folks.
So let's just say that A LOT of thought went into the plans. A lot.
And now I'll regale you with day number one.
I know, finally, right? ;)
Saturday, December 6, 2008 ~ Day One
Okay, before we get to the plans, can we just take an aside here and talk about how excited I am that I'm not working on a Saturday! :yay: Let's not focus on how crazy it's going to be to work all day Friday and then leave the next day, no, we shall not dwell on that. We'll save that for the freak out right before I leave. ;)
So, Saturday will dawn quite nicely for TK and HRH. In many senses, but mostly in the sense that no waking up early is required for this trip. Oh no, we've entered the world of livable flight times! :thumbsup2
We leave at 11:25 am and get into Orlando at 2:35 pm. Oh, heaven. :cloud9: Oh, how I love livable flight times. How you spoil me so.
Now, I'll be taking on the role of DH for some portions of this trip. Which I'm sure will make for a very, very funny trip report. As in, I'll be doing all the handling of the luggage, car seat, and various toddler paraphenalia. Which means I will also be finding the most efficient, effective, least possible amount of luggage to travel for this trip. Perhaps I'll limit myself to two pairs of shoes. ;)
Suffice it to say, it will be new to me. And it's not that I don't know how to do these things, or that I'm not fully capable, I just think it's going to result in some hilarious moments. You can all thank me now, if you like. ;)
When we arrive, we'll get our luggage and meet up with...you guessed it...Mr. Transportation! We love him. He's really part of our family.
We'll chat and catch up as he drives us to...THE YACHT CLUB    ...and I'm sure he'll tease us about having just been there.
Who's more excited than me about that first look at the World decorated for the holidays? Except for Mom...and Nana...and maybe HRH, once we explain it to him. Although, he does tell us quite frequently now that he is "going to Disneyworld in December." :thumbsup2
So we'll arrive, and take it in. Check in and hopefully get a room that works well for us. Speaking of which, who can give me a clue as to what to request? I need something where Nana wouldn't have to do a ton of walking to get to the boat to Epcot / MGM, or close to the lobby, I guess? Perhaps near an elevator even, if it's on a different floor. I'm on the FAQ thread, but haven't found anything yet. Feel free to chime in if you know, because I'm hoping to fax or call in a request before we leave.
Anyway, we'll get situated, and for our first day we'll head to MGM. Now this day flipped and flopped a lot in the original plans. Where would we go on our first day, what did we want to see? And we'd originally scheduled something else, but it just didn't make sense.
And truthfully, there's not much that Mom and Nana like to do in MGM, other than ride on TSM and...
EAT AT THE BROWN DERBY!!!! :yay:
So we have a reservation for 5:10 pm at the Brown Derby. And one of the reasons I'm so excited about this is because not only is it the Brown Derby, but for the first day it makes sense. Since you can boat over from the Yacht Club it's going to be a relaxed day. We can take our time, unpack, and head on over, you know? It just makes sense, and gives me less anxiety about trying to "be somewhere." Because when traveling with Mom and Nana, you will have a reservation for dinner your first night. Whereas I prefer to just get there. And relax, and let the chips fall where they may.
Now this, is a nice compromise.
Our plans are simple. Ride TSM if we can. Eat dinner at the Brown Derby. See the Osbourne Lights.
That's.
It.
Nothing fancy, nothing crazy, nothing insane. Just three simple things. I can't wait.
Up next - Day Two
or another clothing post, I haven't decided yet... ;)

Ohhhhhh.....the Osbourne Lights on the first night AND the BROWN DERBY!!!! I don't think it will get any better than that!!! I love those lights!!! I SERIOUSLY cried last year when we saw them---Megs was sitting up on Tom's shoulders---her favorite spot---and they started the "snow" and the lights and the music, and I SWEAR I had died and gone to Christmas HEAVEN!!!! It was so wonderful---none of us wanted to leave that spectacle!!!!

Oh, what a sweet memory!
When Mom talks about what DS will like, she thinks he'll be absolutely memorized by the lights. I think she's right. Whenever we go to a store during the holiday season, he loves to look at the Christmas displays, and he loves when we put up our tree. Having never seen the Osbourne lights, I think it'll be wonderful to share that with him.
May I ask, what time does it "snow"? Is it all night, or just a certain time?

So bear in mind we're dealing with a very strong-minded woman who raised a very strong-minded daughter who in turn raised another strong-minded daughter.
So what you're saying is, "Bring on the stubborn!"
No worries, it's genetic in my family too.
We'll save that for the freak out right before I leave. ;)
Mental Note: Charge phone for 12/6 to receive TK's "I'm Freaking OUT" call sometime around 11:30 p.m. when she is sitting in her suitcase and HRH is trying to zip her in.
Now, I'll be taking on the role of DH for some portions of this trip.

Which means I will also be finding the most efficient, effective, least possible amount of luggage to travel for this trip.
I will be of little help here.
Perhaps I'll limit myself to two pairs of shoes. ;)
And even LITTLER help here.

Ah, dear friends. To properly get in the mood for this update, I think it's all time we poured ourselves a glass of wine. Or bubbly. Or whatever tickles your fancy.
This trip is filled with wonderful dining reservations, and Sunday, December 7, is no exception.
But, first, we must start at the beginning. With three ladies and HRH hopefully having spent an evening at the Yacht Club, and waking refreshed and rested (if you believe that allow me to sell you this bridge ;) ) and ready to take on the WORLD!!! (At least that last part is true.)
See, I have my reservations about our sleeping arrangements. I anticipate that we'll be fine, but I also anticipate that I'll have a little company. In the way of my three year old. You all remember him, right? Fish out of water? One of the reasons I booked the Wilderness Lodge in September, i.e. queen size beds?
Ah, yes, I see by the nodding of heads you DO remember. :lmao:
Anyway, I know it'll be interesting, but it's only three nights. Honestly, I did it for seven. I can handle three. It's really what comes afterward. When we get home. With the Mama, please let me sleep in your bed that we have to break him of. That was fun after our September trip. I would say it took about two solid weeks. And not that he still doesn't ask now. Or still come running in to snuggle with me at 600am when he's decided to wake up, and therefore I must wake up.
Ah, my little peanut. I know it won't last forever. So along with the sleep deprivation, I'm going to be grateful. Because someday my beautiful little boy is going to be a handsome young man, and all my lovey hugs and kisses may be few and far between.
Where were we?
Ah yes. Day Two.
Sunday, December 6, 2008
Most likely you'll laugh when I tell you the plans. And some may even shake their heads. It's pretty simple. I wonder how I could possibly draw out the suspense even longer?
Another tangent, perhaps. :rolleyes1
So, on Sunday, we're going to Epcot. I'm very excited to see the World Showcase all decorated, and I know that various versions of Santa appear, indicative to the country they're in. But mostly, I'm excited about the decorations.
And it's a CERTAINTY that there will be shopping involved. In all honesty, I finished shopping for almost everyone last year after Christmas. Great sales on the Disney Shopping site, voila, done. Except for a few key people. Who may or may not enjoy what the World Showcase has to offer. So I'm keeping my eyes peeled. And of course, for any last minute items for my little nut. Now, I did find two gifts for him on my last trip, but I also like to plan ahead for his birthday, which is in February, and the best time to buy birthday gifts is before Christmas. Because, trust me, whether in the World or the world, all the cool toys are gone after Christmas.
So that's it.
We're going to Epcot. We'll take the boat to get there, and then we'll partake. Depending on what time we get there, we'll mosey on over to France and have our customary three ladies champagne toast. I must, must, must come up with something fun for HRH during this. I've put my thinking cap on, including but not limited to smuggling in a small bottle of sparkling cider. Which, actually, my mother did for me when I was pregnant, and couldn't have champagne in France. She had champagne, and I had cider. Good memories, my friends.
I remember the last time Mom, Nana, and I toasted in France. It was in May 2004, right before I got pregnant. A lovely girls weekend trip. That's when all the pictures on the trips used to be of me. Now they're of my son. I love it when life comes full circle. :cloud9:
So, because Epcot is rather large, and because we plan to see all the decorations, we'll be renting an ECV for Nana. I don't like to go into detail, because I think she'd be personally mortified if I plastered her private life on the internet, and I respect her too much to do so. Suffice it to say, the ECV will make it much easier for her to really enjoy herself, and it is necessary.
And that's pretty much it.
What, you were waiting for something?
Oh, right the dining plans!!! ;)
Of course we have a reservation. Why wouldn't we? This is three ladies and HRH, after all. And actually, this is a reservation that was a must do for Mom and Nana. We all sort of latch on to our favorite restaurant, and require to do it every time we go to the World, and that is what this is to Mom and Nana.
Chefs de France - 510pm
Now, it used to be Alfredo's. Back when there was Alfredo's. NoTuttoItalia. But to everything there is a season, and Alfredo's season is no more. So Mom and Nana thought to move on, and thought to try Chefs de France.
And they love it. They've had wonderful meals there, and think it's very, very good, considering it's not a signature restaurant. Which is usually more their fare.
And I'm excited about France. I'm a little nervous, because I worry whether or not HRH will like it, but given his affinity for signature dining (that's a little spoiler for my trip report), I think he'll do well in this environment.
I haven't eaten there in many moons. I don't even know what I'll have. Haven't even looked at the menu. But I do know one thing.
And that's escargot.
Yum. When I was little, my mother would make this for me, and being that I had no idea what it was, I would eat it. If I could only convey to you some of the looks I used to get when my parents would take me out and at the tender age of eight, I would order escargot. The waitress would look at my mother and whisper, "Does she know what that is?" And my parents would smile, nod, and say yes.
In case you haven't guessed, there's a deep and abiding love of food in my family. Just thought I'd let you in on that.
I'll probably peruse the menu sometime before we leave because I like to have a game plan, for myself, and for HRH. That's half the battle, really.
Having the plans, but being willing to change them. :thumbsup2

Now, I have never tried escargot......what DOES it taste like? I doubt I will ever be able to eat it, but just thought I would ask.
It's really hard to describe, because it's not like anything else. If it's not cooked properly, it can have a rubbery texture. Other than that, it should be softer. And most typically, it's drowned in herbed butter, which makes it really, really tasty. This would probably explain why I love it, because as a kid, it wasn't uncommon for me to go out to restaurants and eat butter packets.
Yes.
Butter packets.
Sometimes with bread. :lmao:

40%!
I rationalize this is okay, because that's roughly what my employer contributes, so in theory I'm losing their money. Right? :confused3

There's a LONG story behind why we love Alfredo's, and the waiters, and the atmosphere so much. And so far, I can't bring myself to set foot in Tutto Italia. In addition to the menu not being appealing. And being married to Italian husband. And being part Italian myself. With a lot of chefs in the family, it's just not something I want to eat on vacation, especially when it's not Alfredo's.
:::sigh:::
I was spoiled by Alfredo's. :cloud9:

Oh, I am so wise.
So wise in the ways of the force :yoda: ...and the ways of bargain shopping.
Everyone remember these?
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/ochoa-b.jpg
You got a lovely preview of these puppies in my first wardrobe chapter. Well, they're still here, and they're still lovely. And, I was able to wear them with ankle socks, and it works very well. I was concerned at first, but since I ordered a half size up from what I normally wear, there's plenty of room.
Now, I thought I'd gotten a good deal, savvy?
20% off, and then 10% off of that, and free shipping. I was feeling pretty good. And given the amount of ordering / returning of shoes / clothes I'd been doing, I'd really been avoiding advertisement e-mails that kept pouring into my inbox. Shocking, I know.
But this morning, for some reason, I decided to click on one for Sierra Trading Post. See, apparently it's been so long since I've ordered from them, that lately, they've been barraging me with a variety of offers, and today's actually peaked my interest. 25% off all items.
Now if you're not familiar with that website, let me tell you, their prices are great, but you really have to know what you want, because you pay for shipping, and pay to ship if you need to make a return.
Now I knew they had these Tevas before. And I thought, what the heck, let me see if they have them now...
Oh, my.
Did they.
In this color...

Oooo...the possiblities. The black to go with black pants, the green to go with my funky artsy clothes, the blue to go with jeans.
Hmm.....
But what really got the frugal TK to thinking she could purchase THREE pairs of shoes?? And the same shoe in different colors no less?
THE PRICE, OF COURSE!!!! :lmao:
They're on sale, and then 25% off, so the total price of one pair is...
$17.97
$17.97!!!! For ONE PAIR!!!! Do you know what I paid on Shoebuy's site? $46.76!!!!
Holy shoe shopping, Batman! Oh, I was :cheer2: and :yay: and
Total cost of three pairs of shoes with shipping? $63.86
Sweet! So basically, two pairs of shoes for the price of one, and while I'm at it, why not just throw in that third pair.
I mean a girl needs versatility, right?
Tink, back me up here... ;)
Plus, I can still return the unworn black Tevas to Shoebuy and get my full refund. Oh, the :cloud9:
The sweet bliss.
Now, while we're on the topic of clothes, let's just hash it all out shall we. I placed a rather large order on WalMart's site, with the intent of returning what didn't fit, which I've already done, and I just require a quick opinion on something.
::scurry, scurry, shuffle:::
Alright, I just tried to take the headless shots, and I'm having a little trouble. But without further ado, here they are.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0262-1-1.jpg
I know, I know. Why on earth am I so excited about velour sweats? But I am! Because I can never find these in a length that fits me in the pants, and this is terribly exciting to me. These are good airplane clothes, my friends! Imagine how comfy, and warm and snuggly I'll be. Did I mention they come in different colors too? Which certainly means I'll be ordering more, since the set only cost me $18. I love a bargain. Love, love, love it.
And let me explain as well, so you all don't think I'm crazy. Most of the time, I have to buy new clothes for work, and my casual wardrobe is sadly, lacking. And I do not want to wear my work clothes on my days off. You know, it's the whole separation thing, I like to keep it out of my days off as much as possible. But that means that my casual wardrobe is sadly lacking, because most of the wardrobe money goes to nice clothes for work.
Well, enough is enough. I'm me every day of the week, not just when I'm at work, and as such, I figured I deserve a good casual wardrobe. Now, I'm not going to spend oodles, and oodles, but I would just like a couple of outfits that are specifically for my days off, or more specifically, just for me. Not things I wear because I have to, but because I want to.
Does that make any sense? Lack of sleep lately is addling my brain. ;)
Now here's my question. The pants fit me perfectly, which is so exciting to me. I'm betwixt and between on the hoodie. I have two different sizes, and I can't decide whether or not to stick with the more fitted one, or go a size up. I know it's hard to tell in these photos, but I welcome opinions. I've tried them on so many times, I'm just not sure. I like how the fitted one looks more polished (if that's possibly with sweats :lmao: ), but the larger one is very comfortable, but also, to me, looks sloppier.
Option One - Smaller Size Hoodie
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0262-1-1-1.jpg
Option Two - Larger Size Hoodie
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0264-1-1-1.jpg
And, I did find a cute shirt on Kohl's website. It has short sleeves, but I'll bring it with me in case the weather's really good. This photo is not the most flattering, but it's very cute on, with a nice v neck and bubble sleeves. I plan to dress it up with this pretty necklace I have.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0265-1.jpg
I also got some good advice (thanks, Tink) and am hoping to order myself a new pair of jeans soon. I actually...:::gasp:::...went into Old Navy and tried on different pairs to see what fit best.
I know. Pick your jaws up off the floor. After all my talk about bad lighting and hating dressing rooms. At least DS wasn't with me. ;) But when I walked into that dressing room, I had my head held high. It is what it is, it is what it is was my mantra.
And you know what? I didn't look so bad. Sure, there are areas to be worked on, but I'm rather proud of my mommy body. Especially since I've started working out more regularly again. I gained some weight after the last trip, and I'm hoping to shave off at least a few pounds before we leave again. So far, I'm down two, and counting.
This update was much longer than I ever intended. We need to get back to the plans! :goodvibes
Thanks for bearing with me. :thumbsup2

That's true. I'm also not really taking into consideration what I'm going to wear under it, although most of my tanks are thin.

So, when last we left the royal plans, we'd spent a lovely day in Epcot, with a lovely dinner in France.
Monday, December 8th will be no exception to loveliness, just of a different kind. I'm not even going to do a big lead in, I'm just going to say it.
Today we're going to the Magic Kingdom!!! :woohoo:
I am SO excited about seeing the Magic Kingdom all decorated for the holidays. As much as I love Epcot, I LOVE the Magic Kingdom. It's just magical. It's how it all started. There's something about the roots of it, the beginning of what we know as Walt Disney World. Inspired by Disneyland, but improved upon.
And I get to see it decorated like some kind of holiday fairy tale. Lights on the castle, decorations galore. I'll be in some kind of :cloud9:
We've got a full Magic Kingdom day on the horizon, and that's mostly for DS. We want him to be able to get on whatever rides he wants, and we want to just take our time to enjoy it. After which, we have a lovely dinner reservation at....
Citrico's!
Oh, yes. This will be my second time there this year and I anticipate it so much! I had forgotten how much I love it until I ate there with Tink in September. It's amazing, and lovely, and I love the Grand Floridian. Never mind getting to see the huge gingerbread house in the lobby! And the tree! Oh my goodness the big tree!
Oh, it's just heaven. Heaven, heaven, heaven. I love my Grand Flo. I do, I do. And eating at Citrico's will be just so divine. Our reservation is at 530, and I believe the Magic Kingdom has extra magic hours this evening, so we can certainly sneak back in and check out how everything looks at night in case we don't see it beforehand.
This day is just perfection. When we originally booked this trip, and it was only three days, not four, the deal was that Mom and Nana got to pick a restaurant, and I got to pick a restaurant.
They picked France, I picked Citrico's. I've thought about changing my mind, but I won't. It just makes sense. Magic Kingdom, see the Monorail Resorts decorated, fantastic dinner.
:::sigh:::
It doesn't get much better than this...
But it does...
because on our last day, we're going to........

There is something magical about the Magic Kingdom at Christmas -- not to mention seeing those awesome new icicle-like lights on the Castle! Cloud nine is right!
I love the GF at Christmas -- and that gingerbread house -- and the smell of that gingerbread house. Mmmmm!

:::sigh:::
I was spoiled by Alfredo's. :cloud9:
I feel the same way, and haven't been able to bring myself to eat at the new place. Luckily my office is 1 block away from Alfredo's NYC. My mom took my dad and I for our birthdays last month. It was heavenly!

Yes, HRH, is very, very excited. If you ask him where he's going in December, he'll tell you, "Disney World!"

Okay TK, I would go with the smaller hoodie as long as it is still somewhat comfy and doesn't feel too tight---just a closer fit to the body---that will ALWAYS be more flattering than something bigger and bulkier. Just my opinion though!
I love the castle with the new lights---so beautiful, especially when they keep changing the color of the light reflected on the castle too!!! You get to see SO many different looks for the castle!!!

Guess what I found out yesterday after my whole big post? Those hoodies are 80% cotton. Which means in all likelihood, they'll shrink in the dryer. Now, although I don't intend to put them in the dryer regularly, because if you're kind to your clothes they last longer, I said, let me just take this bigger size, wash it, and see if it shrinks. I haven't tried it on yet, but I'm sure it'll be part of my next update.

December 9, 2008
Also known as the last day of three ladies and HRH taking on the World. Now let's just jump in shall we?
Mom was able to score great return flights, so we're not due to leave Orlando until 3:00pm. Which gives us plenty of time to partake in something that was...ahem...totally my idea.
And...ahem...totally geared toward the little nut. Or, his royal highness, as we are want to call him in this pre trip report.
What exactly do you do with a three year old the morning before you bid adieu to the World when you're staying at the Yacht Club...
in close proximity to the Beach Club...
who sees where I'm going with this? ;)
To Cape May Cafe, my friends! For a lovely breakfast, with character. And who's more excited than me that Donald has been added to the line up? Now some of you may now that I have a little history with the Cape May Cafe breakfast in the way of a ruckus between my husband, myself, and Chip. So there are some fond memories there for sure!
Our breakfast is at 1020. Not too early that we'll be tired from the night before, and plenty of time to get ourselves situated with our luggage and everything and be ready to leave, you know?
So that's it, dear readers. My little jaunt to Disney in December.
I couldn't look forward to it more, truthfully.
And still, if you ask HRH where he's going in December, the prompt reply is...
"Disney World!"

We really wanted it to be something easy to do, and relatively relaxing. Given the resort we're staying in, I was surprised I hadn't thought of it sooner. When Mom and Nana agreed, I was so excited.

Well, truthfully, I had more than a thought, I have several.
Throughout the day.
And sometimes, they're good ones. ;)
TK's Brain - DH, DS, DH, DS, Disney Disney Disney, Jack Sparrow, Jack Sparrow, Jack Sparrow, Jack Sparrow, hey that's not a bad idea, Disney Disney Disney, DS, DH, DS, DH
So let's run with the whole hey that's not a bad idea thought.
Now I know this little trip is supposed to be my birthday present. And quite the lovely present it is. But part of me feels that although it's something special for me, I'd really like to make it something special for Mom and Nana, too. And HRH, of course. But really for Mom and Nana. And not that I don't love my little peanut, but my opportunities to spoil him are plenty.
Mom and Nana. Not so much.
So here are some of the things that have been kicking around in the old TK brain of late.
Gift Bags - obviously not prepared beforehand due to airport security, but something easily assembled in secret once there
Mom - "TK? You okay in the bathroom?"
TK - "Yeah, Mom. Just powdering my nose." :lmao:
Now I'm not sure exactly what I'll put in them, other than cute stuff I find / make, but one thing I'm pretty solid on would be some nice comfy slippers. For everyone, myself included. I think it would be fun for us all to have relatively similar tootsie relaxers when we get back to the room, and I know HRH will get a kick out of being like the adults.
Some Sort of Custom Made Something or Other - boy, that's real descriptive, huh? But seriously, you know how I did the custom menus, some people order custom desserts? Well, my mother doesn't have a big sweet tooth, but it would nice to have some sort of surprise for our first night, maybe tied in to dinner at the Brown Derby? Any suggestions, guys? Or any other night for that matter...I'm fairly certain you can get custom menus at Citrico's, I'll just have to snag a number for there...and probably soon.
Anyway, if you all have any other ideas on how I can make this a little special for my family, I'm open. :thumbsup2

I don't feel as though I have come up with a very good idea yet. The only thing I could think of was to get something from the Disney Florist but I know that runs kinda expensive. Hey, guys! I'm checking out possible slippers, and found some on the Kohl's site. They come in plain colors, or these...

My only decision now is whether to go with pink or blue. I'm leaning towards blue, but I'm open to suggestions. And I'm having a devil of a time finding slippers for HRH. He has Spiderman ones that are closed (like a real shoe) and he doesn't wear them. But I don't want him to feel left out, you know? I'd really like a scuff slipper for him, but they are soooo hard to find.
Help me, Obi Wan. You're my only hope. :yoda:
Oh boy. How quickly things change.
So as it turns, they don't have the blue in our size. Hmm...I wasn't entirely sold on the pink. I could go with the solid colors and just pick a different color for each royal lady.

:lmao:
Dude.
Seriously.
'Kay?
So let's just say that I've done some shopping. And let's just label that "some" for what it is...
a gross understatement.
Because to say that I've done some shopping in the past few days is to say that Tink sort of likes shoes. Savvy?
Now, before you all weep for my credit card, let's remember this, shall we?
Rule Number One - TK ALWAYS finds the best bargain possible
Rule Number Two - TK's a pirate at heart
Oh, and a little addendum to the rules. TK typically returns 75% of what she buys on the internet. Sadly, I did some non-internet shopping. But I'm jumping ahead.
Anyone notice that those rules are sort of an oxymoron?
So let's start at the beginning, with what this update really is. A HUGE fashion extravaganza. I apologize if there are any men reading. Are you out there? Men? I promise there will be plenty of hijinks with HRH, I swear it! We are pirates, after all. Even if we are behaving like royalty. ;)
So it all started with a little coupon in the mail from Kohl's. I keep a charge with them specifically for their coupon codes. Kohl's is really where I do the majority of my clothes shopping for the whole family, because there are such incredible bargains to be had.
So suffice it to say, I got the coupon, and thought, oh, it'll be fifteen percent off, like it usually is. Now imagine my suprise when I peeled off that sticker and it was 30% off! Holy Cabooses! (That one's for you, CP. ;) )
Now I was surprised. And then I had a little discourse with some of my co-workers, who are also fans of Kohl's. And you know what? We ALL got 30% off coupons.
Wow. Is the retail industry hurting, or what? :sad2: Well, far be it from me not to take advantage of a good deal when I see one. So I formulated a little plan. In addition to my internet shopping, because the coupon is usable both online and in stores, I would do the unthinkable.
I would venture forth.
To a real retail venue.
With bad lighting in the dressing rooms and everything.
Because, I reasoned with myself, 30% off of clearance items is pretty darn good. Especially considering one of the items I purchased today cost me $1.68. But I digress. ;)
I told DH I was going to have an afternoon of shopping today. He agreed that was fine, since he didn't have to work, he'd stay home with HRH. Sadly, DH got roped into a HUGE project at Nana's, per Mom's request, and is now shampooing our floors.
The man is tired. And works hard.
And I just spent some money.
You all remember the debt to be repaid? I think it just doubled. :lmao:
So I ventured forth, made courageous by my 30% off coupon. Ready to shop! Ready to conquer! Ready to find clothes that looked nice on me that weren't necessarily for work, but for the December trip and for the holidays! And also, in search of some pajamas for my boys.
That's our Christmas tradition, started by my mom when I was little. Every Christmas Eve, we get to open one present, and it's always pajamas to wear that night. I was so excited by what I find for DH!
I can't post a picture of his right now, because there isn't one I can lift off the internet, and he's obviously around, so he'd notice if I scurried off into the bedroom to take some clandestine photos. And let's not forget the man is shampooing the carpets. While I'm on the internet. So we'd like to keep him happy. Oh, the debt to be repaid. It's vast.
Suffice it to say my boys love to play video games. And one of there favorites is anything to do with Mario. So I found DH some awesome pajama bottoms with Mario on them, and bought two different sizes, just in case. Now, I searched the store for something matching for HRH, because that's just fun to me when father and son match, and they didn't have any. :::sigh:::
But when I came home and looked on the internet, I found these!
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/382166.jpg
I'm so excited! Now DH has Mario jams, and HRH has Mario jams. It's so cool! :woohoo:
That was the extent of what I found for the men as nothing else really peaked my interest, so to speak.
So I moved on to looking for things for me.
Let me tell you. I tried on some absolutely hideous clothes. Things that make you wonder exactly what that designer was thinking when they put that together. Things that really shouldn't ever be worn in public.
And may I say as an aside, why is it such a huge trend right now for so many tops to look like maternity clothes? Now, don't get me wrong. I loved maternity clothes. They're adorable, and I had some really cute ones from Old Navy when I was pregnant.
That's the key right there. When I was pregnant.
Why is it so hard to find something with seaming? Something fitted, even? Something that shows my waist, which is the smallest part of me???
Finally, it appeared to me. Like a beacon. Like a wondrous, beautiful beacon.
This shirt.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/377146_Black.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/377146_White.jpg
It looks so nice on. And it wasn't too bad. Total with discount $11.76. Not too shabby, I thought. When I came home, I found it online and ordered another in black and one in white. It fits so nicely, and I've learned my lesson. When something fits that well, and is that flattering, you buy multiples, and set some aside, savvy?
I also found a similar style in a beautiful black satin, with a little ruffle around the neckline. Same type of neckline, same type of sleeves, but even dressier. I thought it would make a wonderful shirt for the holiday season. Cost around the same as well.
I can't tell you what it meant to have some nice clothes, that fit properly that looked good on me. Even in bad lighting. In my horrifying jeans, that really need to be thrown away. But I'm not to the jeans yet. That's a whole other ball of wax, okay?
Let's continue with the shirts. I also scored a really cute black sweater. It's the softest knit material, and is cut very similar to those shirts, but with a more open neckline, and fits more like a blazer than a cardigan. It's adorable. And it's comfy. I loved it.
The $1.68 was spent on an adorable tank top, with small ruffles on the straps, in a nice chocolate brown. Code for I think it'll look really cute in the Animal Kingdom. ;)
Now after the trying on and the searching and the finding, I was feeling really good. I had the adrenaline going that only comes from a successful shopping experience, savvy?
So I made my purchase and felt a HUGE amount of satisfaction when the amount went from almost $100 to under $70. With some traditional Christmas gifts taken care of, and some clothes for me, I was feeling pretty good.
And then I got in the car. And it was raining as I started driving home. And as I had the heat on, and some really soothing Egyptian music (long story) I realized...
I WAS EXHAUSTED!!!!!!!!! :lmao:
Lack of good sleep for the past couple of nights, and being at work this morning, to shopping for about two hours wiped me out.
Why didn't anyone tell me that real shopping is so exhausting?
I'm such a wimp. I may work out on the elliptical, but when it comes to going out and shopping, oh boy. :upsidedow
So then, when I got home, I decided to do some more damage.
Because I had the 30% off code, and it was begging to be used. Really. It said, "Please, TK. I feel so lonely just sitting in your purse. It's dark. And the Victoria Secret Lip Gloss won't talk to me. She may be Pina Colada, but she's not getting caught in the rain."
Or something like that.
So I ordered this.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/370511_Purple_Velvet.jpg
Not sure how I feel about it, having seen it in the store. If the quality isn't good it's going back. If it looks too maternity, it's going back. But it's been ordered, in two different colors.
And this.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/369617_Ring_Puce.jpg
Same story as above.
And this totally falls under the heading of could not resist.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/383006_Taupe.jpg
This corduroy jacket came to $11.76.
And so did this corduroy blazer.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/383133_New_Black.jpg
I'm not sure how these will look in person, and I could not find them in the store at all, so I have no idea. I guess we'll see! :lmao:
And before we get to something absolutely adorable, we have the battle of the jeans.
Oh yes.
This is a battle that rages on.
Much like the battle for Middle Earth.
Except with less hobbitsies. Which is too bad, because they're so lovable.
No, the battle for jeans is hostile territory. Let's just say I watch a little too much What Not to Wear. And it's gotten to me. Stacy and Clinton have seeped into my brain. And I'm fully aware that women with my figure should wear jeans that fit my widest point, and go down from that point in a straight line, not tapering, not boot cut, so as to be most flattering to the figure.
In other words, we're looking for a wide leg or a trouser style jean.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a wide leg or trouser style jean for a girl of my height? Being that really a 29-30" inseam is the best thing for me? Because although petite inseams are great, my body, is not petite, my friends. I need regular misses sizing! And misses sizing fits great, but the length! I swear! 32, 34, 36" inseams! Where are these people? On America's Next Top Model?
Okay, maybe I'm overreacting a little, but I really am on the quest for jeans that fit. And it's been a LONG quest. So suffice it to say I just ordered eleven hundred bazzillion pairs of different jeans from Kohl's. With my 30% discount.
And then went on the Old Navy website.
And saw these...
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/on616657-01p01v01.jpg
Trouser jeans! In my length! In my size! Not the rise I'm used to, as they appear to be an at waist style, but this is the closest thing I've found to what I'm actually looking for. I really want that long, lean look, even if I'm not long and lean. :lmao:
And in my wanderings on the Old Navy site (because I really hate to pay $7 shipping just on jeans for me) I found something so adorable.
So wonderful.
So reasonably priced, I just had to get it.
And if you've stuck with me through this whole post, bless you.
This is the reward, right here, at the end.
Remember these?
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/395172_White.jpg
Well, today, I found something to put them in. :yay:
I'm so excited.
I KNOW Mom and Nana will love their new slippers in their new cool
TOTE BAGS!!!!
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/on613760-05p01v01.jpg
On sale for $6.50! So reasonable! I was so excited to have their gifts really finalized. Cute slippers, cute tote to use on vacation, all holiday themed. And not to belittle the thought behind the gift, but given that the slippers cost me about $5 a pair, that's not too shabby! Under $12 per person for a nice, fun, thank you for taking me, I'll never forget Disney during the holidays type of gift.
What's better than that? :cloud9:
(We'll just ignore that I still haven't found slippers for HRH. Something's bound to come up. What with my shopping prowess, it just has to.)
Coming up next - The Returns ;)
Just Kidding! More seriously, some musings about the plans, and something I wish I could change.

I have jeans envy. My jeans busted and I went out of the house today with a busted jean button. My other jeans are hideously short and I wasn't wearing them. Thank goodness for longer shirts. :rotfl: I think need to go to Old Navy and see what they've got. :rolleyes1

Don't have jeans envy. I totally didn't discuss what I went out of the house in today. As in the jeans that need to be thrown away. Because they were a dark wash.
At one point.

We do the night before Christmas pajama present tradition too. I started it one year when I hated what my kids were wearing in their Christmas morning pictures! Now the control freak in me can regulate what they get to wear and I can coordinate them... it also prevents them from opening something too good or unequally valued for their night before Christmas present.
Love the clothes!

Alas, dear friends,
alas I cry
my clothing woes
are too much this nigh
Many things did arrive
in pretty package indeed
but no shining beacon
no lovely white steed
No hope for TK
of being decked out in finery
instead, high time
for a trip to a winery
To drown my sorrows
of desired high fashion
to please my own eye
was my only passion
Alas, my dear friends
a sad tale of clothing woe
so many, many returns
back to the stores they go...

Okay, so I kept one shirt.
Well, to be more specific, let's backtrack. Remember my brave excursion, enduring bad lighting to try on oodles and oodles of clothes? And how I ended up with one lovely sweater, two cute shirts, and one tank?
Okay, those are staying. Obviously, because I tried them on and knew they fit. Now, let's not pretend. I am an internet shopping goddess. But much like Anton Ego in Ratatouille, I find my preconceived notions rocked to the very core.
In short, there's something to be said for
:::SIGH:::
going to the store and trying clothes on.
:::SIGH:::
Everything I ordered from the internet, all those cute clothes, all those cute jeans, etc, etc, ad naseum, either didn't fit or looked hideous on.
I won't pretend that I'm done with internet shopping, because heck, I love a good bargain, and really, I can't kick that habit right away.
But basically, when I go to Old Navy to return those trouser jeans that I thought would fit, I'll be shamefully hanging my head, defeated by the fact that I can't find What Not to Wear style jeans to wear that are made for a woman of my height (and I don't know anyone who can hem jeans so they don't look dorky after), and trying on the d-a-n-g bootcut jeans in the size I know will fit, and most likely purchasing them on the spot.
Because that BOX of jeans I ordered from Kohl's in the hopes of one pair fitting? Yeah. Not so much.
And, even though I ordered some that were the EXACT same style number and size as two pair I already have, when they came, they didn't fit. I DON'T GET IT.
Do they mutate in the box?
Do they change in transit?
Seriously, what?
WHAT?????
So, anyway. The one shirt I'm keeping is very cute, and I just love it.
It's this one...
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/369617_Ring_Puce.jpg
I'm glad I ordered it in two different sizes, because I washed / dried the Large, and it shrank to about the size of the Medium. Amazing to me! Anyway, at least I'll know for the future, if it's 100% cotton, order the large because it shrinks.
Also, the slippers and the bags arrived and they are adorable! Just adorable! I know Mom and Nana will love these gifts. The slippers even came with cute ivory bows around them tying them together. Too sweet!
So that's where we're at, folks.
I have a TON of returning to do. It's going to be embarassing to go to Kohl's with the BOX of returns, but oh well. I'm sure they've seen worse.
Wish me luck. :lmao:

Oh, that looked so cute, right?
In theory. Except that it was cropped to a really unflattering part of my body.
I.E. my mammoth hips. :lmao:
Seriously, the jacket fell to just the wrong point on me, and unfortunately, even though it had some nice seaming, it really just made me look fat instead of thinner. Too bulky, I guess?
I'm trying to focus on the positive today. I have nice shirts. I have nice shirts. I may be pantsless, but I have nice shirts.
I abhor the idea of wearing work pants to Disney. :::shudder::: Hopefully I'll be able to find some jeans soon. I just want one pair. Just one lonely little pair. Although, who am I kidding, if I find two I may buy them both! :rotfl2:

Don't be sad, CP.
It's a really, really cute shirt.
And in all reality, it's probably good that the majority of that stuff is going back. Because if you'll all allow me to turn onto a slightly unrelated tangent, I made a purchase with my 30% off Kohls coupon that was so exciting to me, I would have returned all those clothes for it. And this isn't what the later update is about, that's something different.
I had been debating getting the Leapster for HRH. He really likes playing the Nintendo DS, and that's great, but I'd love the Leapster for him since the games are educational, you know? And come with great characters like Disney characters, Dora, Spongebob, right up his alley.
Well, on the Kohl's site I was able to find the original Leapster (picked that over the Leapster 2 because the stylus is attached so he can't lose it ;) ) on sale. And then I used my 30% off code.
So total, something that originally retailed for about $60-65, ended up costing me $40 with shipping.
I was excited. I also got him a game with that coupon for $17. It's Ratatouille. This will be his big gift for Christmas, so I'm really excited because I think he'll love it.
So in that sense, this is related. Because given budgetary constraints, I would have gladly returned those clothes to get that Leapster. :thumbsup2

Also known as, TK finally has some shopping success. ;)
Let's backtrack a bit.
I was beaten. Broken down. Lamenting my shopping woes. Drowning my sorrows in rum as any pirate would...
wait. That's the wrong trip report. Pre trip report. Oh, you get the idea...
Drowning my sorrows in champange as befits a true lady... ;)
When I thought, oh heck. Since nothing is working for me, let's take a gander for some slippers for HRH. I mean...SOMETHING had to go right here. I was due for it. :thumbsup2
Now, one of my co-workers told me about some fleece lined clogs they had at WalMart. I was excited by the prospect since they came in different characters, including The Hulk. NoHoganKnowsBest. So I trotted off to WalMart, but alas. They did not have these fleece lined clogs that were so easy to pass off as slippers in HRH's size.
Alas. My woes.
So I went online. And they were more expensive! Sheesh. Could a lady catch a break? Well after I'd been royally...ahem....perturbed over my recent internet shopping demise ala Kohls and Old Navy, I decided to head back to the WalMart site.
Call me a glutton for punishment. Or crazy brilliant. Savvy? ;)
Turns out they'd gone down in price! To a somewhat reasonable amount! Now, they were eligible for site to store shipping (which is free), but the last est arrival date was Dec. 4th. No way. Too close to the trip! So shipping was actually .97. I bit the bullet and paid that shipping fee. :lmao: What I find to be really funny, though, is that HRH's slippers cost more than the ladies. As it should be I guess!
But look at how cute they are...
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/0471805059847_215X215.jpg
Now, why the Hulk you may ask?
Does anyone remember the rather infamous tale of HRH's snotrockets? NoBoogers. His sneakers I let him pick from the internet? Well, because they're green, he calls them his Hulk shoes. He doesn't watch a lot of the Hulk, but if you ask him what the Hulk does, he says, "HULK SMASH!!!" with all the authority a three year old can muster. So. Dang. Cute. So the Hulk slippers, are quite befitting His Royal Highness. Now he can have Hulk shoes, and Hulk slippers. :goodvibes
And all this shopping leads me to some thinking.
Which is never good. As a matter of fact it can be downright bad...for my wallet. :rolleyes1 What has not yet made it in to my currently active trip report is that the backpack we purchased right before the trip, to see us through all our fun in a Pirate's Life for Three...well...what can I say...
We're pirates.
It's already coming apart at some of the seams. But it was inexpensive and served a purpose, and is still usauble so most likely will carry our spare outfits on the plane. Don't even get me started on a packing list. I'm so unprepared for this trip that is three weeks away that I can't even fathom packing yet. It's amazing I found HRH slippers, okay? ;)
So obviously, I am NOT going around Disney with some broken down busted backpack. I was looking for some new hotness. NoMeninBlack.
No old and busted.
New hotness.
And then, in all my wanderings (dang Budget Board) I discovered something.
There was a showgirl
Her name was Vera :rolleyes1
Well, not really. Now, I'll admit, I've never been one for the Vera Bradley bags. I know, I know. :scared1: Put DOWN the pitchforks.
Now as it turned out, little Miss Vera was having a sale.
We all know how I love a sale. The only problem was, the pattern I liked wasn't available online anymore. Hmm...I checked a local retailer (thank goodness) and let me just say, without offending anyone, some of those patterns are HIDEOUS in person. Alright, alright...they're not to my taste. :snooty: So I was glad I did a little reconaissance and found that out. But I did find I loved the bag that wasn't available. And of course, on Vera's site, it was only $25.
Oh, Mesa Red Cargo Sling.
How you eluded me, you rascally devil you.
Is it wrong if I suddenly have an urge to call the bag Rascally Devil instead of Vera Bradley? How unladylike! :lmao: I like it. I shall pat it and pet it and love it and squeeze it and I shall name it Rascally Devil. (Thanks to Lara for putting that cartoon back in my head. ;) )
Anyway, I found it on Ebags, to the tune of $53.99.
NO. WAY.
If there's one thing I am...well, I'm a lot of things, really. But I am frugal. And I am not spending that on a bag. Not with Christmas coming, and everything to do with the holidays, no way.
And then it occured to me.
Ebay.
Lovely, lovely Ebay.
So I watched. Several auctions. And lost a couple.
And then tonight, my glorious victory. My swooping in at the last possible moments, down to the very last seconds, pit in my stomach, sweating profusely (just kidding), would I win, would I win?
Rascally Devil.
You will be mine. Oh yes. You will be mine.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/118187_3_1.jpg
Now, what could possibly make me love this bag so much?
Honestly...for shame, I know for shame...it has nothing to do with it being a Vera Bradley, since I really have no prior experience with them! It is the style of the Cargo Sling. I can't find another bag like this, with a quality brand name behind it, 100% washable cotton. Seriously! Throw all that in the mix, and you've got a bag that can carry mine and HRH stuff! And leave me hands free. Because the strap is extendable to wear across the body, the bag ergonomically designed to conform to the body.
In short, my Rascally Devil is MADE for me. :cloud9:
And since I was able to check out this cargo sling style in the store, I'm fully aware of its capabilities. It's many pockets and compartments. It's ability to keep things organized and separate and oh so easy to access.
Oh, that Rascally Devil.
And the best part?
The bestest part of all?
Only cost me $21 and change. Oh, yeah, baby. With shipping. For a bag that originally retailed for $90 and was on sale for $25 with $6 shipping. $10 less than sale.
Ah, the power of the :darth:
We're all about the dark side tonight.
Hulk Smash and the Rascally Devil.
Only on a TK report. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I am not well versed in the world of comic book characters and such. So when I saw a commercial with Hulk saying "Hulk Smash" I thought he said, "Hulk Mad" and thought it was hilarious. So I went around saying that for awhile until my husband kindly pointed out I was insane. Husbands are good at that.
Those Hulk almost slippers are too cute!
I am really liking the dynamics of the cargo sling, oh so cute! Hmmmm. :rolleyes1 I just may have to cramp your style TK, you trendsetter you.

Cute slippers!!! I bet HRH loves them -- has he seen them yet?
Love your new Vera! I found out last night that FIL's brother and sister-in-law know Vera Bradley -- I guess she lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana where they live. Too bad that doesn't entitle me to a discount. I am still trying to decide which Vera pattern matches my Beach Club vacation. ;)

Can I say **** on the Dis Boards? Okie dokie, guess not! Well, now that I'm previewing my post and I can see I've been censored, I'm going to just have to go ahead and change that word. :lmao:
(I sure hope so. Because if not, then there's just going to be a whole bunch of little stars in its place. ) Look, there are the little stars!
Today we're talking about a royal patoot. Not to be confused with a pain in the patoot, oh no, my friends. And while we discuss this royal patoot...as in, my royal patoot, we must also discuss a couple of heartfelt thank yous.
See, through the advice of my dear friend Tink, I learned that in order to find that "oh so perfect, oh so coveted, oh so desire to make my butt look like the finest butt on the planet" type of jeans, I really needed to :::gasp::: go to a store and try some on. Thank you, Tink.
I did that a few weeks ago, but for some strange reason, didn't buy them. I know. The shock. The horror! The perfect jeans for my royal patoot, and I didn't take them home immediately!
But see, karma was on my side. Especially after the great internet shopping debacle! Today I journeyed forth to return my HUGE bag of shopping woes, to Kohl's, and to Old Navy. And at Old Navy, I thought, let me see if they have that certain style in that certain size in that certain length that made TK say, "Ahhh...."
And why was I so willing to venture forth, so willing to pay full price!
Because I wasn't! Ha ha!
See, LL knew of my shopping woes. She felt my pain. In that cosmic, sisterhood, Lapuette way. And she came to my rescue! With an Old Navy coupon for 30% off that could be used by family and friends with no issue! And that last day it was good was today! So she forwarded me the 30% off coupon, and I had it in my hot little hand as I ventured forth to Old Navy. Thank you, LL.
Because the advice of Tink in trying on jeans and her love of Old Navy, and the help of LL with that fantastic coupon enabled me to get not one, but TWO pairs of jeans. For the bargain price of about $20 a pair. For jeans that retail for $29.50!
Oh, I was in heaven.
My royal patoot never looked so good. So uplifted. So happy.
I even checked myself out in the three way mirror. I was that brave. The patoot looked good. And the rest, not so bad either.
And that is how my trip wardrobe FINALLY became complete. With not one, but two pairs of Old Navy jeans, in just the right size, in just the right fit, feeling like the were made just for me...
and my royal patoot.

Really? I wonder what kind they are. I just went with the Sweetheart. ;)
Old Navy calls it their classic rise, but to me, it's really more of a mid rise jean. Just between low rise and at waist, savvy? This the type that fits me best because of my body shape. And I'm able to get them in short, because I'm 5' 4", and it's hard for me to find jeans that aren't too long on me. Old Navy really does have the best sizing for me, and I got a dark wash so they'd be flattering. I just couldn't resist buying two with that coupon, it was so worth it. :thumbsup2

Okay, I totally thought when I first saw the stars and the Royal part, that this was about to be how HRH had a less than stellar day. Wrong four letter word. I will heave myself out of the gutter now and offer my heartfelt congratulations that you found wonderful jeans that make you look fantastic.
(Aside: it was an honest mistake -- my husband routinely declares that he has known sailors with cleaner mouths than mine ;) ).

So we've talked about the ADRs, right. But until recently, I wasn't really allowing myself to get excited for this trip. I guess now that all my shopping purchases have fallen into place, and the fact that it's a few short weeks away have really upped the enthusiasm factor.
That and HRH won't stop talking about it.
As I was putting on his jams the other night, I said, "Honey...what do you want to do tomorrow?"
"I go Disneyworld December!!!" he cried with glee.
Then I had to explain that December wasn't tomorrow. It was a few weeks away. Poor kid. :rotfl2: But he knows he's going. And I think in that sense, the fact that we've had so much build up to it, and the fact that it's short, will make this trip a little bit easier than our Pirate's Life for Three. Because HRH has been there, done that, knows what to expect.
But not entirely. I can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees all the decorations and the lights. He talks about the lights, too. Not light fixtures, LL, but don't worry, we'll work him up to that. ;)
And I'm really excited that Mom and Nana are indulging us in some fine fare. Because the best meal HRH ate on the last trip, no joke, was at a signature restaurant. So I'm excited for a few reasons, 1. that we've got some upscale dining in front of us and 2. that we're not on the dining plan. This enables us to order things to share with him, and not have him tied down to a children's menu. Which let's face it, can be downright disgusting.
So in my allowing myself to be excited about this trip, I also allowed myself to mosey on over to All Ears and take a look at the menus.
Oh.
My.
Royalness.
Have you seen what they have at some of the places we're eating? :cloud9:
Let's just say the excitement factor increased to mach 10.
Let's start with the Brown Derby, shall we? Now, for those of you following my trip report, you'll know why I love this restaurant. If you're not...why? :confused3 Just kidding! In all seriousness, it's easy for me to know what I want here. Cobb Salad, Grapefruit Cake. Lunch, dinner, doesn't matter, those are it for me. And we'll be there for dinner this time.
But what I didn't know is that Mom and Nana had "cooked" up a little surprise. See, I don't know if I've given full import to how well known Mom and Nana are in Disney. At specific restaurants. Let's just say that managers / waitstaff / cast members remember them. Often by name. And are more than willing to accomodate them. Because they're lovely, and they're ladies, (NoLesMis) and they really appreciate good service. Savvy?
So, let's just say that they have special ordered something for us that is not even on the menu. Not even available to other guests.
Do I feel SPOILED or what?
I bet you're all dying to know what it is, huh? Now, I must admit, I am a little nervous, given that I used to love this dish, and over the years I've grown more and more lactose intolerant. Perhaps I'll need to take something, because specially prepared for us that evening will be the famous Brown Derby oyster brie soup.
Yum.
Yum.
Yum.
I haven't had it in years. Like I said, it's seasonal, and usually not on the menu. And it's not on the menu now. But Mom and Nana pulled the proverbial strings when they were there in October, and special ordered it for December.
Just call me a princess:
And a pirate:
all rolled into one. :thumbsup2

The only thing about Deluxe dining, with a toddler, I just can't fathom sitting down that much. Unless you did a sit down breakfast, and then snacky luch, and signature dining in the evening. Even that seems like too much for me, but it's all about phases, right? I'm sure some day when DS is older, we'll be loving being able to relax a bit more. :thumbsup2

Okay, dearie. I just sat down with pencil and paper and did a rough guesstimate on the whole Disney thing.
Are you ready?
The grand total is about 25 times, give or a take a couple. Not counting the two upcoming trips in December 08 and Free Dining 2009.
My first trip, I was in first grade. That's when we discovered that I was allergic to the sun. As in I got horrible, horrible sun poisoning and came home beat red. In my cute little Alice in Wonderland dress. With my pigtails. And glasses. And that's all you're getting on that visual image. :lmao: But don't let me poking fun at myself fool you, I had a great time on that trip.
I know we went 3-4 times when I was in high school, I can't remember going in middle school, so it's possible we did then.
I went 2-3 times a year when I was in college, then my honeymoon, about 2-3 trips before DS was born, and one every year since he was born.
Yup.
I guess you could say I enjoy it there.

See, through the advice of my dear friend Tink, I learned that in order to find that "oh so perfect, oh so coveted, oh so desire to make my butt look like the finest butt on the planet" type of jeans, I really needed to :::gasp::: go to a store and try some on. Thank you, Tink.
Welcome babe.

I used that coupon too.
Got 3 pairs of work pants and EIGHT shirts.
For $108 dollars.

Because the advice of Tink in trying on jeans and her love of Old Navy
Seriously.
If I could marry a clothes retailer it would probably be Old Navy.

With not one, but two pairs of Old Navy jeans, in just the right size, in just the right fit, feeling like the were made just for me...
and my royal patoot.
;)
HOW did I miss this update? I was reading Tink's replies and it dawned on me that I hadn't read half of it! And I was even mentioned! :headache:

Goodness gracious, me oh my!
This trip is two weeks away!
Time is flying by!
And so unprepared am I!
:lmao:
That is to say, there's been so much life going on lately, that I just haven't really thought about this trip a lot. I mean I know I'm going. I know I am. I'm not close to being packed. But I did start the laundry basket thing. You know, when you come across items you know you're taking with you and because you haven't asked DH to get your luggage from storage yet, you quarantine the items to one laundry basket instead of having them all over the place?
Yeah. So if the laundry basket = preparedness, then I'm right on top of that, Rose. Name that movie.
Anyway, I wasn't really thinking about the trip. And this morning, I got an e-mail from Mom.
And you know what? It was written in red and green.
And basically stated that current predictions for weather in Florida on December 1st are a high of 84.
:yay: :yay: :yay:
How excited would I be?
If I could wear a tank top...in December??? Oh, the oxy moron of it all. Oh the delightful dichotomy. How it wonders me so.
Taking the boy swimming in Stormalong Bay? Wearing flip flops?
Heck, I'll take 70. 70 degrees would be just peachy keen compared to the carp weather we've had in this neck of the woods lately. Have I ever told you all the bank I work at is in a plaza on top of a rather large hill? Which creates a lovely wind tunnel / gust effect which will not only chill you to the bone but also ruin your hair.
Yup.
And in two weeks, I could not be doing that.
With Mom.
And Nana.
And HRH.
In the World.
Sigh. :cloud9:

I got a little side-tracked, but never fear!
I fully intend to return to food discussions shortly. After I tell you that the Hulk slippers finally arrived and are even more adorable in person than they were on the internet. I need to hold them up against DS' current pair of Crocs, but so far, it looks like they'll fit just fine.
I'm also waiting the arrival of the Rascally Devil.
Either she likes to take her time and make a grand entrance, or the Ebayer I bought her from is taking their sweet time in the shipping process. Which is making me seven different shades of nervous. I'm down to the wire, less than two weeks, with no park bag. :scared1: And a holiday which could easily slow down shipping to boot! Oy vey. :sad2:
Back to France.
Chefs de France.
Because last night as we were watching Ratatouille, it occured to me that I never finished my, hey, even though it's how ever many days away, I know exactly what I want to eat post.
So in France, it's simple. Simple, simple.
Appetizer? Escargot.
Dinner? Ignoring my stomach and digestive tract, most likely, a lovely fruit and cheese plate.
Dessert? Again ignoring my digestive tract, creme brulee.
Oh, yeah baby. NOM.
Citrico's?
One word. Filet. That filet I had in September was simply heaven. Never mind that it came with Tink's favorite potatoes. Fill in the blank if you know the answer ______ _______ ________ _________. I'll so be trying to snag that recipe for her. And thereby lure her and her BF to my house with promises of said potatoes and really good proscuitto. But that's a tale for another time. No guilt, Tink. None at all. :rolleyes1 ;)
And of course, at Cape May Cafe, I'll be noshing on nummy buffet breakfast fare. Have I ever told you how much HRH likes bacon? It's quite funny. I was shocked at how much of it he put away during our Chef Mickey's breakfast in September. I actually warned my mother about it. It was a LOT of bacon.
Now what am I hoping to squeeze in there somewhere?
Obviously we have our favorite snacks, our favorite food haunts.
But this isn't like going with my DH, who is quite happy to indulge my every whim as long as it means he's well fed, too, oh no.
This is going with a toddler and two other women who have definite opinions about what we should be doing and when we should be doing it. Read, even though this is "my" birthday trip, TK is low woman on the totem pole. I knew that going in. And in the past couple of days I have had some SERIOUS doubts about how this is all going to work.
So much so that I had to go back and read my what was I thinking chapter again. I'm sort of at a turning point here.
Either I'm taking full ownership of this trip and going full force, or I'm not. There's a lot of personal reasons here. I can't get into them all on a public board. Suffice it to say, I'm still thinking like I'm going, but I'm having a really hard time with it. I wish I could explain more, but that's pretty much all I'm comfortable saying.
So if there's any time for me to interject an opinioin, it might be nice to have a hot dog at Casey's. A big pretzel in Germany. Get DS his kaki gori in Japan if he's so inclined. I most likely will not get a junky apple in MGM because I'll have no way to eat in under cover of night with three other people in the room. :lmao: And who can say whether or not we'll have a Dole Whip. It's all in the hands of fate, my friends.
One thing that's a must do for me and Mom is to see the Gingerbread House in the Grand Floridian. Honestly, we're to the point where we don't even care about seeing "all" the hotels decorated. The Yacht Club (since we're staying there), and the Grand Floridian are our must dos. We'd like to be able to get some of that yummy gingerbread and bring it home.
Heh heh.
If it makes it home. ;)
So there you have it. How I'm honestly feeling about the trip right now.
Totally Libran.
Totally on the fence.
Totally not knowing what to do. I wish DH were going. I don't think he would. It was supposed to be a "girls" weekend anyway. :::sigh:::

You know what the thing is?
I know I need the break. I need to learn how to put some things aside, go, and just have a good time. Enjoy what I enjoy and set aside the other carp, you know? Because I do need the break from work. I've re-learned how to not take it home with me and I know I don't complain about it as much on the Lapuette thread anymore, but that's not because it's better. It's only that I've tried to change my outlook. There's still the same petty, you know whatty women in the workplace stuff going on. It drives me up a you know what wall.

I'LL BE IN DISNEYWORLD!!!!
But before we get to this post, which I apologize if it's half-hearted, I just want to take a quick opportunity to talk about how grateful I am for my family. I'm lucky to have had my family in my life. We're all very close, and it's one of the reasons although I talk about moving, I never will. They may be crazy and dramatic and a pain sometimes, but they're also my family. This reminds me of a quote from a movie I adore, "My family is big and loud but they're my family. We fight and we laugh and yes, we roast lamb on a spit in the front yard. And where ever I go, what ever I do they will always be there."
We had something happen today that could have been much, much worse. But we're still not out of the woods yet. And so with that in mind, I'm trying not to take anything for granted. It's always been in the back of my mind that we don't have everyone forever, but at the same time, you never really expect anything to happen. In short, my grandfather had a heart attack last night. He's doing okay now, but is still in cardiac ICU, so not totally out of the woods. This is especially scary to me, because my other grandfather has passed, and he had a heart attack. There's a lot of praying going on right now, so please excuse me if this post isn't my normal witty repetoire.
I have a lot left to do for this trip. This morning, when I didn't know what had happened, I had a lot of fun, frivilous stuff on my mind.
Like the weather. So far the 10 day forecast indicates the tempature to be 75 while we're there. A low of 45 at night.
I'll take it. :lmao:
But it throws a kink into my packing. How do I dress during the day so I can easily transition to nighttime and be warm enough when the sun goes down? I'll let you know when I figure it all out. :thumbsup2
I need to make packing lists for myself and HRH. I need to go through the toiletries and make sure we have what we need. I need to figure out how I'm going to pack and all that jazz.
I need to make a list.
Did you hear that, LL? I'll be making a list. And most likely checking it twice. It is a Christmas trip after all. :santa:
I was sure there was more I wanted to say but I just can't think of it right now. Between what happened, and my being sick (some cold or something) my brain is just fried.
Hopefully, we'll resume semi-normal pre-trip report programming soon. :happytv:

Layers, layers, layers. Definitely bring a sweatshirt and a medium jacket. Don't forget that the 45 won't actually occur until late, late, late at night. Warm pjs are a must -- are you planning a mid-afternoon rest each day or no?

Well, don't forget on this trip, I'm masquerading as a lady. ;)
Even if I do call my new bag a Rascally Devil. :lmao:

Okay. So if it's 65 during the day, when can I expect the temperature to really drop? I'm just curious how much I should be carrying around with us during the day. I'm thinking for HRH, dress him in a long sleeve tee, and then carry his hoodie as well. Should I be carrying around his winter jacket too since I know we'll be out at night?
We don't really plan on going back to the room for a break, because HRH doesn't nap in the room, on vacation, he only naps in his stroller. Although, I suppose if I'm in Epcot (first day) it would be easy enough to go back to the hotel, but honestly I think that would kill too much time.
I'm just trying to figure out what I should bring with me each day, because I never leave anything in the stroller when we go on rides, so I'm going to be hauling it all, savvy?

I can't believe you'll be there in less than a week again! And I can't wait to hear ALL about it!

Do you have a jacket that is midway between heavy and light? You probably won't need a really heavy New England-type winter jacket for DS. I would do the long-sleeve tee, the hoody, and a medium weight jacket for the evenings. It all depends on if the wind is blowing -- that can just cut right through you.
If it were me, I would plan on jeans, a long-sleeve tee layered with a short sleeve tee, and a medium jacket or a hoody -- because you will be walking which will add body heat. If DS does the stroller thing in the evenings, I would make sure to have a really thick hoody or a medium jacket.
I would think that even if you were to stay until 10:00ish, it still wouldn't drop much past 55 degrees.

Thanks, hon. I do have a mid-weight coat that is just perfect for layering. For DS, not really. But I think he'll be okay if we do long sleeve tees, hoodie, and even his winter coat, or maybe some heavier blankets. I plan on bringing two fleeces from home, so that should help too.

Well, we've got FIVE DAYS!
And I'm still royally sick. Getting better, but just worn out. Broken down. In need of a little Disney magic.
Okay, correction. In need of a LOT of Disney magic. I am very, very grateful to be taking this trip. There's a lot of stress going on in my family right now, for various reasons, and I'm aware but trying to push it aside. And enjoy what I have. If that makes any sense. I don't promise to be coherent while I'm sick, folks, so take this post for what it's worth.
The mad ramblings of a woman who still needs to pack.
And get snacks for the plane.
And breakfast food for herself and HRH for in the room.
And some extra stuff at WalMart.
You know, usual before trip whatnot. I hope to get it done tomorrow while DS is at preschool. I also have a pair of pants being hemmed that will be ready for pick up tomorrow, and I'm excited about those. They're a nice pair of wide leg khakis, I'm thinking of wearing them on our Epcot day. A little dressier for Chefs de France with a nice top, you know?
So DH brought out a suitcase from the storage unit, but it's way too small. There's no way I can pack myself and HRH in a carry on. Ha. Ha. Ha. Honestly, it wouldn't be an issue if I didn't need to bring so many dang layers! I just can't predict the weather and I want to be prepared.
I did go through all the toiletries, and put everything together so that's easy to pack, and put the last minute items in on Saturday. Wow, Saturday.
In five days, I will be in Disney...
In five days, I will be in Disney...
Even though I'm a lady I can kidnap Jack Sparrow...
Heh heh. ;)

I have a feeling that no matter what you will be on a plane in five days. Just remember, you can buy anything you forget. :)
