View Full Version : Where do you eat with your "adult" 10 year olds?

Since DS will be an "adult" for the first time this year, we will need to re-think our TS choices. He doesn't really eat "fancy" foods - just steak, burgers, plain grilled meats, etc. He isn't much for veggies - or any side item for that matter. I think choosing where to eat is going to be much harder now. What do you guys do? :confused3

My 10 y/o "adult" likes the adult menu choices and has never been a big kid meal person. It looks though like most places offer a steak or grilled meat option. We really like Coral Reef, Cal Grill, and Tony's. All three had great choices.

I see this becoming an issue when my middle DD reaches Disney adulthood. ;) She's a burger eating chicken finger fool with the occasional steak thrown in.

I'll be taking my 10yo to Le Cellier, Sci-Fi, CRT bkfst, 1900 Park Fair, Rainforest Cafe (not DDP), Tusker House bkfst, and Crystal Palace. About half buffets I guess, nothing threating at CRT or Sci-Fi, and she will be all over the steak and potatoes at Le Cellier. Now that I look at it, I didn't pick anything that's a stretch (but DH and I like plain food). She will probably be thrilled with the adult fare and portions.

7yo DD will be perfectly happy with her blah kids meals! We're working on her with a list of "new foods tried". 10yo has always had a wider range of tastes.

My DD 13 is a picky eater. Likes chicken fingers, pizza, pasta dishes without veggies in them, but will eat steak. This year we did 3 buffets...Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace & Cape May. Sit downs were Mama Melrose, Kona, Turf Club & CRT. There are always places I would love to try, but we decide against them because I know there is nothing she will eat there. We save those for someday when DH & go alone. :wizard:

We ate at the following with our ten year old...

Le Cellier (she loved)
Grand Floridian Cafe
The Plaza Restaurant
O'hana (Breakfast)
50's Prime Time (she loved the theming here)
Chef Mickey's
Coral Reef (she loved)
1900 Park Fare
Crystal Palace

There really wasn't a place she did not care for, but she absolutely loved, loved her meal at Le Cellier. She has requested to go there twice on our next trip.:thumbsup2

Funny, we have the opposite problem but a good solution.
My DDs all are good eaters (as far as variety, trying new things, etc.) My DGPa is a different story. He likes about 10 things, burgers, hot dogs, spaghetti, vegetables, there are more, but few). My grandparents g with us on our trips so it works out well. Our younger 2 DDs order kids meals and gramps orders wht they want. He eats their kids meals and they split his adult meal. It works well, everyone is full and gets what they want without wasting any money. It's funny, but it works. Buffets are fine, they go to the adult side and he goes to the kids side--- hey, he's 71 years old and happy as a clam! (Never would eat a clam, but happy as one!:rotfl: )

We took our 11 year old son last Aug. He is a picky eater. Not very adventurous. He loved 50's Prime Time Cafe, Donald's Breakfastsaurus - now Tusker House, Crystal Palace, Whispering Canyon Cafe, and his all-time favorite was Garden Grill. Hope this helps.

Your 10 year old can still order off of the children's menu if there is nothing on the regular menu that they want to eat. My 11 year old did this at about half of the table service restaurants we went to last year.

Most kids like pasta, how about Tutto Italia?

You know.... I didn't even think of that! :upsidedow

I guess we could pay OOP for a kids meal for him, and then use the extra adult TS credits for another TS meal for us. :woohoo:

Not that it matters to us, but I am curious. What is the age cut off for kids to order of the kids meals? I assumed (incorrectly I guess) that it was 9 and under like the dining plan.

On the dining plan, I don't think there is a cut off. If you want to order off the kid's menu you can. You have already prepaid for your meals at an adult price, Disney doesn't care if you order off the kid's menu, in fact, it saves them more money if you buy a kids meal and not an adult meal.

I don't know what the "rule" is for people not on the dining plan. I would assume that the cut off is 10, but I don't know that for sure.

Thanks, I was wondering if you arn't on the dining plan, but like I said, we use our credits so it was just more of a curiosity thing...

I have done this before with no problem. I think my daughter was 11 when we did it.

My family and I will be in Disneyworld over the Thanksgiving holiday for a grand gathering of 11. Out of all of us, my 15 year old son is the only one I have to worry about when it comes to eating. His usual fare is pizza, french fries or cheese fries, grilled cheese, spaghetti (has to be plain - no parsley or chunky sauce!), etc., and he has never eaten meat of any kind. He never has a problem with breakfast and dessert. For these meals, I am sure he'll be able to eat anywhere. Our 17 year old is a completely different story, he is much more willing to try new things and will eat almost anything. I thought long and hard when making our dinner reservations and decided that we were not going to miss out on some special dinners just because the younger one has a limited appetite. Some reservations I made with him in mind, but I can count on the fact that he will not find anything to eat when we go to the Biergarten in Epcot! But, from what I have read I am sure he will find something in the parks that will satisfy his appetite.

We just returned from our Disney trip last weekend and had one 13 year old and two 10 year olds. We did do a lot of buffets, but I also looked at menu's on www.allears.net (http://www.allears.net) to see what my girls would like. They enjoyed all of the buffets (Chef Mickey's, Biergarten was fun (no burgers though), 1900 Park Fare). They also really really enjoyed Sci Fi, they ate the ribs and loved them. I know you can get a burger there for lunch or dinner. Our family favorite is Whispering Canyon Cafe, we eat the skillet meal. It comes with ribs, pulled pork, chicken and something else. Plus mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and beans and cornbread. It's been our favorite the last two trips. Ohana's was fun too and you had lots of different foods. This was a slow meal, so don't have a big evening planned around it. It was fun though. I found that my 10 year olds really enjoyed being on the adult plan this year. THey ate very well. We shared a lot of our counter service meals, so that gave us more credits for breakfast. I had worried they wouldn't eat enough to make it worth it, but they had a blast getting to order what they wanted for once.
