:lovestruc I got my dress today and I love it! :lovestruc I'm going to try it on when my step mother gets up here (about an hour) and have her take pictures of me in it for my PJ and the POTD thread. My question is this. I know you don't show the groom, but what about the father of the bride? Do you keep it from him as well? Dad is obviously going to be up here with Lucy, (step mom). Do I keep him in the dark with Rob (DF)?
One other dress question - how the heck do you store this thing? I'm not doing alterations for a few months to allow the diet to work. I know I need to get a bag for it - any recommendations? Right now it's on a hanger in my closet :scared1:
Thanks to all (as always)

Hey Meg! My dad has already seen me in the dress and we don't get married til December. I don't think there is a big "reveal" like there is when your DF sees you right when you walk down the aisle. He saw me in it and cried already! It was special. So I think it's just personal preference. If you don't want him to see, you don't, but if you do, I don't think there is anything wrong with that! :goodvibes
BTW, my dress was just hanging in my mom's big closet. I am going to ship it to Carolyn Allen's anyway, so I don't care how wrinkled it gets! Plus its lace so I'm not sure you would be able to notice if it was wrinkled anyway!
I'm glad you found your dress! Can't wait to see pics!

I think my dad saw my dress? I'm not really sure! I didn't try it on for him to see or anything though.

You can get like a plastic garment bag pretty much anywhere. I bought mine at David's Bridal (that's where I got my dress). In the meantime, I'd throw a plastic bag over it or something so it doesn't get dirty! Mine's hanging in a plastic bag, in a garment bag, in my mom's closet at her house!

Awesome! Thanks for the really quick response both of you! I just had no idea and they'll be here in less than one hour! I think I'll show him it - maybe it will make him feel better about the deposits that he'll be paying! :lmao: He'll cry - I'm his only child. Better to cry now than the wedding day when I can smudge a professional makeup job!

For storage, I would recommend that if you keep it in a bag, make sure it's not any place too musty. Also, if not in a bag, make sure you keep a clean white cloth or towel under your dress so it doesn't get dirty!

Hey Meg! I already have my dress and it's hanging in a david's bridal garment bag! It will be in there for 18 months! I was told to make sure I don't zip it all the way to the bottom but far enough down to cover the entire dress. This is so it can still get air and doesn't get a bag-gy smell I suppose! :confused3 But it will still keep it away from dust and dirt! There are probably other reasons for it too!
Oh and I showed my dad as soon as I got home! Even when I was just looking online I was getting his opinion b/c he said he wanted to buy it for me. When I came home I showed him right away what he bought!

I just picked up my dress on Sunday from David's Bridal and they told me to wrap it in a white sheet and keep it in the garment bag, not fully zipped. Keep it in a temperature comtroled room in a dark closet. I also heard it is better to lie the dress down rather than hang it up (something about the straps holding the dress will stretch the dress:confused3 ) I will be cleaning out a shelf in the closet to do this. It will be in there until maybe next July before I bring it in for a fitting and alterations, gotta loose some weight first.
Also not to highjack the post does anyone have any suggestions to keep smoke smell off of it. My mom is a chimney smoker. I know it's prob impossible to do, but it's in a closet with the door shut, in a room that the door is almost always shut. I bought some dryer sheets to hang in the closet to try and keep it fresh, but I welcome any other ideas. TIA

Do you have a friend who would let you store it at her/his house? I stored mine at my future MIL's because I knew my DH would peek as soon as he got a chance. Otherwise, I think that smoke will pretty much permeate anything. (Except plastic but you don't want to store it in Rubbermaid before the wedding!!)

I thought about that, still deciding on it, I just don't want to take over someones closet with it and put them out. My Dsis said I could keep it there, but she really doesn't have the room, I thought about my Dbro, but his dog is a puppy and I'm afraid that she might decided she wants to eat it :scared1:. Thanks for the suggestion, looks like that might be my best option!!

If you're ok with laying your dress down and have the room, maybe you could get an under-the-bed box and lay it in there in the David's Bridal bag and sheet (if's it not too poofy) and just put a nice smelling sachet (http://http://www.google.com/products?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GFRC_enUS208US209&q=sachet) in there. :confused3 We store some of our off-season clothes in them and they never smell like plastic. HTH! :goodvibes

I tried my dress on for my dad. It was funny becasuse when I got to their house to try it one my mom had said that my dad asked if he could see it. :)
I am storing mine at my parents house hanging in one of the spare bedrooms closets but now I am thinking I should lie it down instead of hanging up? :confused3

I am storing mine at my parent's house as well... my dad is actually not allowed to see my dress until the wedding day.. just my preference! I swear sometimes I think he still sees me in my cleats running on the soccer field and anything else (like a dress) shocks the heck outta him!

Oooo Good idea, I'll have to see if it fits in a box.
Now to just clean out under the bed :scared1:  :scared: :scared1:  :scared:

I was also told to lay my dress down and not to put any type of plastic or closed covering on it. They recommended wrapping it in a sheet as well.
My dad thought it was bad luck to see me in my dress so HE chose not to! :rotfl: I told him he wasn't the groom so it didn't matter! (ok, that sounds bad!)
