View Full Version : Disneyland Hotel or Newport Bay?

I'm having a little trouble deciding ~ obviously the DLH is right in the heart of the action but we got married in WDW and we stayed the night before at the Yacht Club. I don't know whether to stay at NB (is it possible to walk to the parks from here, like it was from Sequoia Lodge?) or pay the extra £££ and stay at DLH.
Any thoughts? I liked the idea of DLH also because of the character breakfast and interactions, but I have no idea what the hotel is really like.

Heya!!
Newport and sequioa will be about the same walk, but DLH is obvisouly a lot handier for the parks and a lot more special!!
On thed hotels sticky loads of DLH photos have recently been posted!! And bolannettes recent TR has photos of NPB. :)

If you can comfortably afford it I would go for the DLH. While the Newport looks lovely a lot of people complain that the hotel is too busy and congested (its the biggest hotel), unless you pay a little extra and stay in an admirals room which I think is meant to be a bit quieter.

You can walk from the Newport Bay to the parks as easily as you can from the SL. However, if you are staying there expeciting it to be like the Yacht Club you will find that it is not. The hotel is nice, but it is not a deluxe hotel like the Disneyland hotel or the Yacht Club (we usually stay at the Beach Club when we go to WDW.)

Hmm.... The more I see of DLH the more I think it will be the best place to have a Merry Christmas in. Does even Disney Village close at 7pm on Christmas? I think having nothing to do in the parks after 7pm would steer me even further towards the DLH.
That's a shame it's not like the YC. I love it there, and the DLH reminded me of the Grand Floridian. I hope the service at DLH at Christmas is special.

Oh fantastic! I remember the cinema was there, and some shops, Chef Mickey's, Planet Hollywood and Rainforest Cafe ~ is there anything else there exciting?

Hmmmm, let's put it this way. I have always felt ripped off at the NBC (and it feels poor value, especially the Admirals Club), but although expensive, I have never felt ripped off at the DLH.

Have only stayed at the DLH and found it very special - lovely atmosphere and the staff were friendly, polite and really helpful if you needed it. Yes, it's the most expensive hotel there but the service (and location) are there to warrant it IMHO.

I've stayed at the NBC but not on the Admirals floor which I hear is a lot nicer than the standard rooms. I'd stay there again though.
I'd say if you can afford the DLH then go for it! We're hoping to stay there for our next trip :)

personally I found little difference with the Admirals' Floor - it is main building (but still have the same Elevator issues), turn down service, robes, room service. It's ok, but no vallet parking, bell services are flaky. It is more expensive than the Hotel New York (unbelievable). The NBC is lovely to look at, but for the money, lousy to stay at (speaking as someone who has stayed in all the DLP hotels, DLR hotels, a 6 deluxes, 2 moderates at WDW).

Oh I always assumed the Admirals floor was way better. That's the impression I get from what others say anyway!
Yes the hotel looks lovely from the outside, but the rooms are looking tired (like most of the others) now on the inside.
I agree, it doesn't compare with the deluxes at WDW.

We stayed in the Newport Bay recently and it was really nice.... I would say though that if you were looking for something extra special I would opt for the DLH.... To be honest, if I could afford it I would just head straight for the DLH!! The Newport is nice, but it's not at the same level as the DLH (I haven't stayed in the DLH by the way, but its a burning desire!!).....

We have stayed several times at the DLH and at the NPBC (Admiral Floor) Both are great but if money is not the problem then I would prefer the DLH. Especially if you go during the colder days of the year. Then it is great if you can be in your room without a long walk or bus ride.
But there is no character breakfast at the DLH. The characters are outside the restaurants every morning to welcome you.
By the way: Is there a wedding trip report? :woohoo:

Well done!! :)
I think the most special thing has got to be that you're actually staying in the park itself :cloud9:
I've yet to stay there myself but it's on my list of 'things to do before etc' :goodvibes

The last time I was in DLP in 2002 I just stood and stared at it. I never imagined actually staying in it. I am having such a hard time keeping it to myself!!!

Hey there again!
We're not going for a WDW wedding.... But I could be tempted to make a trip just to make my favours at Goofy's Candy place.... (Can't remember the proper name! )

Goofy's Candy Company! Yes, just wait until you see them. I even made a video of me putting them together, ha ha. It was such fun and what I did with them was so cute! I dreamed about it for ages, and when it eventually came off I was so proud of myself, ha ha...:lovestruc
