I've got a 30 GB iPod Classic. I've got about 20GB of music, and probably 45GB of videos.

In the past, I've only selected a few movies to have on the iPod at a time, and I've had the entire music selection on it. What I want to do is limit the music on the iPod to free up space for movies.

I know I can manually manage my music, but then I would have to check a box for each song to not have it on the iPod. When you want to take 20GB of music down to 10GB of music, that is a lot of boxes to check. Is there a quicker way to manage the music? I don't want to have to create 10GB of playlists, either.

Any help you can give will be appreciated.

You can hold down the shift button, then use the up or down arrows to select the music - this is much quicker because you can add/uncheck huge sections at a time - does that help?

Rate your music and create some smart playlists. A smart playlist can be set up to have only a given amount of material (songs, podcasts, video....) and for only specific criteria. They update automatically so you can get a different selection of music every time.

I have one that has 10 songs that were played the longest time ago that I rated 4 or 5 stars. So it's like finding a forgotten treasure every time I listen.
