Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that William's so sick. I'm glad they ruled out the "big" stuff and are making plans to keep working to figure it out.
I really hope that tomorrow's tests provide answers and allow him to start healing.

Hello, maroo :)
I read your TR last night, and I have to say...what an amazing trip! See, I'm a wish kid myself, so hearing about other wish trips is fun for me. I took my WDW trip when I was 6, so I don't remember too much of it now (I'm 15). GKTW is simply wonderful (they didn't have that putt putt course when I was there, and there were JUST building the movie theater). We, however, went in December, so we saw MVMCP. Lauren looks so happy on her trip! Can't wait to read more :)

Thank you! No major news yet. We are still waiting for the results of his last two tests. They DID let him go home last night...so I guess that is news!!!
We covet your prayers!
They are talking about changing some of William's medicines...but the ones they want to get rid of have really helped him...so, the doctors are "talking about it" for now.
I should have an update (of my TR) for you guys in the next couple of days! :)
And as soon as I hear from his Mom, I will post something here and on the Wish Trippers thread.

Hello Maroo
I haven't been on the disboards in a while, but finally have time to catch up. I was so enjoying it (I love the video) until I read about William. Poor Guy. I do hope the docs figure out something soon. You, he and the whole family are in my prayers. Bummer of a way to spend the last of his Christmas vacation.

I'm glad he's doing good!
Some bit of personal experience... two of my boys have seizures. They are controlled by medicine.. nothing we can't handle. However, their EEG's (for both of them) have NEVER shown seizure activity. One of my boys' MRI was also normal.
So, if problems continue again.. I thought I would share my experience.
I'm glad he's going better now though.

What a fantastic trip report! I spent the past two hours reading thru it all.
I think it is wonderful that you were there to help your friends (family!) enjoy a trip of a lifetime.
The make a wish foundation is a very important charity. It has not touched me personally, but two people that I know.
a) a friend of my ex's family: their daughter was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. She was born not even 2 months after my daugher...so she just turned 5. She received her wish this fall....she asked for a beautiful garden. And so their yard was designed and turned into a beautiful oasis.
b) my boss: their son was diagnosed with cancer at 9months. He passed away May 2007. Earlier that same spring, he had his wish granted....and it was to go to WDW.
Whatever the dream, whatever the wish, the make a wish foundation does what it can to help these sweet angels have something special, something to help them forget, even if just for a day, the struggles that they have every other moment of their lives.
I hope to see more "wish" trip reports...plus it will make more people aware of just how important these trips are!
I look forward to your next update.

Goodness!! Thank you SO much for sharing that with us!! We are a little nervous because they want to take him off a medicine that has finally helped with some other stuff...to stop the migraines...so they are sort of "arguing" about it. So...they are really not in agreement about how they should be treated...pretty frustrating.
What kind of seizures are they? The petit mal kind? I am not sure if I am spelling that right!

You are so right! And you said it so eloquently!
I have met so many wonderful Wish families on this board. Their stories are so touching...and their wishes being granted is so awesome!!
Anyone reading this can certainly donate to MAW (Make a Wish)...

Actually...there are a LOT of wish trip reports out there...they tend to get overlooked in the big TR area...and some are not even ever moved from the Pre-Trip report section (many families don't start a new thread)...
But...If you want more Wish Trip Reports...We have some for ya!!!

I'm glad to hear that he's got a diagnosis and is heading back to school.
I've also known a person who gets seizures that don't show up on an EEG. (They actually took him off of his anti-seizure meds because they thought they had gone away and then he ended up having a couple of really serious seizures.)
On the other hand, I also know a person who gets optical migraines and what you describe for William matches his description of what happens for him.
Good luck (to William, his family and doctors) figuring out what comes next.

(My advice was to take food and good stuff to people in the hospital! And to the caregivers! :))

Thank you! :) I think a lot of folks think that people don't want visitors, because they are sick...but it is so great to have someone just drop by...and bring some snacks or drinks...even if they don't stay long. Snacks and drinks get so expensive in the hospital. It is like you are eating out for every meal!
Great TR...Lauren is beautiful and William is an amazing brother to not get jealous by all the attention Lauren was getting. Lauren is a beautiful girl! And William is a good sport, most of the time. :) He does get his feelings hurt sometimes, especially since he has also been sick. He has been in the hospital a few times, too. So he sometimes thinks that he should get a wish trip! But, his stuff is chronic, but not progressive, so he obviously doesn't qualify! His parents do a GREAT job of spending special time with him...taking him on short trips with just them, etc, since Lauren does take so much of their time...especially her Mom.
It is so cool to be a part of their family! :) I get to hang out with them instead of sitting at my condo by myself! So it is good for all of us!
I'm glad to hear that he's got a diagnosis and is heading back to school.

Thank you so much for the info!!! So far his vision has gotten better with the medicine. He only made it to a day and a half of school. He got a bad headache on Thursday and had to come home. But, he did make it all day on Friday.
I am so glad William has a diagnosis and can go back to school. I agree Migranes are NO FUN. I have sinus ones and some days are almost unbearable. Hopefully they aren't that bad.
I used to have sinus headaches real bad...and those are no fun at all!!! I did finally have surgery. And that was the best, most painful surgery, I have ever had! I don't have those headaches anymore and get sick so much less!
I'm so glad for William!!
Thanks!!! :) We are, too!!!

William went back to school on Thursday, but called his mom during the day because he had a bad headache. But he did stay all day Friday. And I assume he went today. He was feeling so good yesterday that he went outside and played! :)
I ended up re-doing Lauren's MAW video this weekend. I spent a lot of time on it! So I didn't get to update my TR.
Hopefully this weekend or this week!! :) It is going to be cold down here (for us...18 degrees is COLD!!!!!)...so I plan to stay indoors! :)

At this point, we all had a different idea of what we wanted to do next.
I really, really wanted to see Spectromagic and Wishes – yes, our last night, and I have yet to see Wishes! :confused3 I knew the kids would really like the night parade. But William didn’t want to see it. Lauren didn’t really know what it was, so she had no preference either way. And Rick and Lisa, well, they were ready to get back to the hotel... :rolleyes1 I am sure it was because they were so tired.
So, we compromised. We decided we would stay for the parade only. We went back to the Contemporary and all of us rode the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. Lisa told William that he had to stay 5 minutes, but if he hated it, she would take him back to the room. Fair enough. :thumbsup2 Because I was SURE he was going to LOVE it!
But…alas…in the distance…you could see LIGHTNING! :scared1: It was not that “heat lightning” you get in the summer. This was a full on thunderstorm! :sad2: You know, cloud to ground lightning (actually, it is ground to cloud…but I will stop with the science lesson!) and rain…does not look good for an electric parade! Ya know what I am saying? :confused3
But we kept going. We decided to stake out a spot toward the entrance/exit so that we could make a run for it if it got too bad. Lauren’s wheelchair really doesn’t need to get soaked, ya know. We had her joystick covered, because that really can’t get wet, but if it pours, we would be in trouble!
Aren't we cute...That's me...in that hoopty wheelchair! Right next to my friend in the Mercedes!
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/DHS%20Day%202/IMG_3556.jpg
I thought that the parade would start in Frontierland and end in the front/exit of Magic Kingdom. So we figured we were in for a long wait. William asked us if we could switch it around…so it would come to us first. :rotfl2: No, baby, not even on a wish trip!
Rick went to go grab a snack and ran into a CM while he was gone. He asked the CM about the parade route and what they do when it is lightning and raining. Rick explained that it was our last night and that we were afraid they would cancel the parade before it got all the way to us.
Well, guess what! It starts at the front of MK, not in Frontierland! So we were in the PERFECT spot! Rick was so excited! So the CM walked over to us with Rick and at some point saw Lauren’s wheelchair and her button and got an idea. He presented us all with “Congratulations!” buttons and explained to us (and those sitting around us) that they were going to “start the parade from here tonight in honor of our special guests.” Everyone around us clapped. (Although I am positive that they had NO idea why they were clapping!) William was elated . Lauren was totally in awe. “Did they really change it?” I am not sure, to this day, if they realize that the parade was NOT actually changed for them that night. :rotfl:
Here is a picture of all of us (minus Lisa...camera shy!) after our coronation!
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/DHS%20Day%202/IMG_3559.jpg
It continued to rain and the lightning was amazing, really. And we loved it…it was so fun…to be out there with all of those people when it was raining. Some of us were singing the song “Singing in the Rain” and kids were jumping in puddles. :yay:
Just enjoying our night.
Our last night in the World.
Our last night ever to be the “special guests.”
One special night, indeed.
We did watch the parade. It seemed fast and short…but I am sure they were in a hurry to get off of those electric floats in the lightning.
And the crowd thinned out. And it was time for us to leave. :sad1: But Rick was talking to this other family and before I knew it, we were all talking to them. Sweet Mom, Dad and daughter. The Dad had just lost a friend of his to muscular dystrophy (which is how the conversation got started, he thought Lauren might have muscular dystrophy) and talked about how his friend did a wish trip a number of years ago. After talking a few minutes, we figured out that we shared the same faith in God with very similar background in denomination and worship style.
Their little girl was so sweet. She had an autograph book where she was getting all of the “Princesses” autographs. Her mom introduced her to Lauren as a “special princess” and the little girls’ eyes got so big. And then…out of nowhere…she asked Lauren for her autograph! Aw…Aw… Ok, I lost it. That little girl was so sweet. Lauren signed her book using a pen with her mouth because we didn't have her tray. Everyone who saw that was in tears…
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/DHS%20Day%202/IMG_3591-1.jpg
Then William started talking to this little girl. And they hit it off quite nicely. :thumbsup2 :cool1: They ran around a played together for a little while. We looked over and William was holding her hand. So sweet.
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/DHS%20Day%202/IMG_3593-1-1.jpg
I did get permission from this family to show her picture on this TR…so don’t panic on me. She is so darling.
To end this special evening, we all walked back to the Contemporary. Our new friends were not staying at the Contemporary, but the monorail line was long, so they walked with us so they could catch the monorail from the Contemporary to get back to their hotel. We had the neatest time, just talking with this family and sharing our stories. As we were saying goodbye, the Mom in their family asked permission to pray for Lauren. We had the sweetest time…she prayed for her and we all talked. A magical, refreshing, and energizing night for all of us!
The rest of the night was spent packing. Although, I have to admit, I went right to sleep when we got back. With all of the lights on and everyone in our room. I was so beat. And my back was killing me! And I had a long, long drive the next day. Yes, I know...Rick and Lisa never made it back in time for date night. :sad2: But I keep their kids all the time, so I was forgiven!
It is finished... (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29936257&postcount=479)

She could dictate to you as you write your TR and that would be so cool to look back on over the years! I should have done that with Lauren...because she saw some things differently than I did! :)
Ah ha! You wrote it in a different thread, but, I found it anyway....
Now we know how you can keep this TR going! When we're done with "your story", we can hear "Lauren's story," then, "William's story," etc.

It all sounds wonderful..... I can't wait.
Glad to see William is doing better.
The comment about food in the hospital is dead on. I cannot tell you how much it sucks to be there with your child all alone, with family about two hours away and you can't leave your child in the room to go get something to eat. You can't leave them by theirselves and of course they don't do "mommy trays' anymore so what do they want you to do??? That is one of my biggest complaints with hospitals. I am really lucky... usually I know some of the nurses real well and Clint will let me leave for a few minutes to run to the cafeteria where I buy tons of sodas and snacks so I don't have to leave him again. What if some poor mom is stuck there without a dime to her name--- what's she gonna do??>> SORRY about that--- It just makes me real mad to think about it!!
LOVE YOUR TR!!!:goodvibes

Ah ha! You wrote it in a different thread, but, I found it anyway....
Now we know how you can keep this TR going! When we're done with "your story", we can hear "Lauren's story," then, "William's story," etc.
Wow! You are paying attention! :)
That would be cool...I would love to do something like that! :) Maybe I can include them in some "final thoughts"...Lauren's school work is so bad that we would have to do a full TR during the summer. :rotfl:
I agree wholehearted on the hospital deal. Especially at THAT hospital...where the food really stinks and it takes 15 minutes to walk to the "good" cafeteria!
Well...it just so happens you have a new DISfriend that lives about 8 minutes from that hospital and works about 2 minutes from there, too! :rolleyes1 That DISfriend would LOVE to bring you food! The hospital is a great place for a DIS meet! :)
okay, Maroo, you have me blubbering like a baby again, right here in front of my computer!! I can't help it, that is just about the coolest story yet! I can't believe it, we are to the end of a most awesome trip to the World!

Aww...I am sorry!! I will pass the kleenex! :) She is so precious! And it was a completely awesome night. We were so blessed to meet that family!!!! It was a perfect end to our vacation! But...it is not quite over...we still have our impromptu Chef Mickey's adventure! :) With LOTS of pics!!
Aww, that was such a special ending to a magical trip! :goodvibes I got all teary eyed too when I read about that little girl really believing Lauren was a true Princess. Too cute! :)
:) Thank you! I wish you could have seen that sweet little girl's face. Her eyes just lit up! Big wide eyes...just looking at Lauren...she totally believed she was a real princess! Which is true! She is!!! princess:

Ha ha! I asked Lauren if she could write some on the TR...and she said YES! "After I finish all of my homework and the PSAT. But then I will have the ACT. So maybe after that?" Which means, uh...well, 2011? I am hoping that we can get these kids back to DISNEY before that! Ya know?
Just finished reading the whole report........:thumbsup2

Aw...Sorry to make you cry. Hopefully it was a GOOD cry!
My back is MUCH better. It actually has not hurt at all since then. I don't normally transfer Lauren that much for days in a row. And the transferring on the rides was probably a factor, too.

Ah…
The end…
Well, almost the end. You see, I did some research before we went to Disney. And the books I read said that Chef Mickey’s had below average food. And that it was too pricey. When we looked at our budget, we just didn’t have room for Chef Mickey’s. :crowded: Plus, we were going to be able to spend some time with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and friends at GKTW during a pre-scheduled photo time. :thumbsup2 So, there was no need to book Chef Mickey’s. So, I didn’t. :sad2:
But we were sick on the day that we were supposed to meet Mickey at GKTW. :crazy2: And we had extra money since we spent 2 days sick in the hotel room (amazing how much you can save doing THAT!) And, since we stayed at the Contemporary, poor William had looked down in the Atrium and listened to those kids sing Happy Birthday, or whatever it is they sing, you know, when they twirl their napkins around in the air? (Lauren can’t see over the rail, so it didn’t faze her!) William really, really wanted to eat there!
At some point in our trip, Richard actually told William that he could eat at Chef Mickey’s. :scared1: Uh oh! "Rick you have to make reservations for Chef Mickey’s. No, really! You have to make reservations for Chef Mickey’s…like forever in advance!"
But that very last morning, Rick went downstairs and talked to the CM at the Chef Mickey’s counter. He explained the situation and got us a table! Cool, huh! :cool1:
We had a blast. pixiedust: As far as a restaurant review…well, the food was not great. But it wasn’t bad either! I enjoyed some normal breakfast buffet food. And I tried to fill up, too, because I was going to be in the car for a LONG time. :hourglass I had to make it all the way back home as fast as possible… :drive: (and we know I can DRIVE!) because I would have Lauren’s legs…and she wanted them back. Especially before school the next day.
Anyway…pictures, right…you want pictures.
Each of the characters came around separately. They normally stayed for just a minute or so, but they came back by as they had time. We were there for a while, so we did get some good interaction with them!
I love this picture of Lauren kissing Pluto!
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/chef%20mickeys/IMG_3622-1.jpg
Lisa is addicted....PINS :goodvibes …ya know what I am saying?
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/chef%20mickeys/IMG_3631-1.jpg
And, of course, Minnie!

I love, love, love this picture!
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/chef%20mickeys/IMG_3621-1.jpg
I love Lauren's face on this one. And sweet Donald, kissing her hand!
I love it when the characters reach out and touch Lauren. She sometimes feels like people won't touch her because they think they will hurt her. So when the characters do something like this...it really makes me smile! :)
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/chef%20mickeys/IMG_3613-1.jpg
Check out this precious family!
http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/chef%20mickeys/IMG_3619-1.jpg
Well, my friends...
With tears in my eyes, I must tell you that we have reached the end. Lauren and family hopped on the Magical Express and had an extremely uneventful trip back home. Lauren actually said that she was real let down...not only to be going home...but that there was no fanfare at the airport. I think she expected someone, anyone, to meet her on the way home! Half the airport saw her off to her trip! But it was back to reality...ugly reality!
I drove, very fast, all the way home! And you can't give me a ticket now! ::cop:
The Post Disney Depression (PDD)...lasted for weeks! I am convinced that the only thing worse than PDD is PWTDD...Post Wish Trip Disney Depression.
This was the trip of a lifetime.
And those only come once a lifetime.
So our moment...is over.
Which makes me really sad.
But our story...it's not over! I have found a wonderful group of friends here on the Disboards. There are a BUNCH of kids that have not had their moment yet. So I am going to stick around. Hopefully help some more families to create wonderful - once in a lifetime - memories from their Wish Trips. If we can pass on some of the things that we learned...then their trips can be that much more fulfilling!
I have also discovered another WISH part of this board...W.I.S.H...We're Inspired to Stay Healthy.
I want to go back to Disney so bad! And I needed a real good excuse to go...and maybe bring a friend or two. Two years ago I did a very small triathlon. So, I do like races. And Disney does races! And you can walk in Disney races. :cool1: So, I have started my training. Already lost 10 pounds!
So that is the plan. Want more details...
You can check out my journal...It isn't a pre-trip report yet...but it will be!
From Rainbows...through Terror...to half in 2010! A WISH Journal... (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2073071)
Thanks so much for sticking with us this whole time!
Please post...anything...to let me know you guys are still out there!! :)
And I will pass along any notes to Lauren...and pictures of cute boys! :) (And of course to the rest of the family!)
Until next time...
Enjoy the rainbow moments in your life!

It was so wonderful getting to know you and Lauren's family. Thank you so much for taking us on the journey with you.:grouphug:
I had to learn several things when I started hanging out with Lauren. The first thing I learned was that it was ok to say "Will you walk with me to do ____." I was wondering if that would be offensive. Since she can't walk. But she says "walk" all the time...so I got over that. Although occasionally she pokes fun and says, "No, I can't walk." :rotfl2: She is just messing with me!
And to not treat her like a china doll. She is pretty resilient. You can even hit her head on a wall as you are transferring her from her wheelchair to her bed and she doesn't complain...much. :lmao: Thankfully, I have never done that! :sad2:
Wow it's like the final episode of M.A.S.H., I didn't think I would tear up but I did. Thanks for all you have done, your an asset to our community and your planner will help us get it all done without more loss of hair.

Muffin was staying at Lauren's house the other night while I took Lauren to a church function. When we got back, we couldn't find Muffin! :confused3 We could hear her barking, crying, but we could not find her! Finally, one of Lauren's friends thought she heard the barking coming from the toilet...
opened the lid...
and about had a heart attack!
Because Muffin was IN THE TOILET! :rotfl:
How in the world she managed to get in the toilet AND shut the lid on herself, I have no idea!
She is fine! She was significantly wet...and pretty freaked out! But she is fine now! Crazy dog!
I just had to share that! :thumbsup2

Have you guys ever hit the "Unsubscribe" link on your own TR?!?!
I think I must have hit the wrong button on my iPhone...because I unsubscribed from my own TR! :lmao:
Sorry to be just getting back to all of you guys!!!!!! :)
Glad Muffin was OK.........:goodvibes
Bet you had to bath her :rotfl2: :rolleyes1
She was fine. She was a little upset...ok, a LOT upset...but she got loved on by her "Mom" for the rest of the night and did fine.
She is sick now, though. Poor thing. :( Not related, I am sure. Little stomach bug. :sad2:

Yeah, I am pretty sad, too. Honestly. I miss writing it!
Yes, please close those toilet lids! But, I am not responsible for any mishaps in the middle of the night when the lid is closed...:rotfl: :sad2:
I love, love, love my Muffin! I don't see myself ever owning a different kind of dog. I have seen some "yippy" Yorkies, but Muffin is very calm and doesn't bark unless she has a pretty good reason. :) lol
I passed on your note to Lauren and family...They can't believe that so many people actually read anything that I write. :lmao:

Christmas card...
Now, that is very funny!!!! I don't ever see my friends sending a Christmas card. We love Christmas! And cards! But their life is so busy...:sad2: It would be around this time that they would get around to it.
Maybe they could start for next year?!
Thanks for the pixie dust!

You can definitely laugh! We were sitting there hold my wet dog and everyone was sort of speechless...we wanted to laugh. But Muffin was whining and I think they all felt so bad. So I said, "Hey guys, we are going to laugh about this later, we should laugh about it now!" And we did. It was funny!
Yep! We are going back!
And I am well on my way to some of my goals...so that is good!!
