Three quick pics today - what did I do wrong?

So here are three pictures I took today. Just wanted to get some feedback on the first one with the running water. The second two were just for some Disney fun! :goodvibes

This was my first attempt at blurring running water. I didn't have my ND filter with me, so I used the fastest shutter speed I could, and made the aperture 32 - somehow the picture is still overexposed. My guess is next time - make sure I have my filter, or take the picture when it isn't full sunlight mid-day...anything else??

Two old cast iron Mickey and Minny banks at the flea market. I would have bought them, but since they were antiques, they were $85 for the pair!

When I try to blur running water I will set the camera on shutter priority and try to set to slowest shutter speed I can for the lighting conditions


Defintely midday does not help. Full midday sunlight can wash out the colors.
I did the following with a 2 second exposure at f/36 late in the day

When I am taking pictures of running water I will do a few at various shutter speeds to get one that I like. That is the great thing about digital. There is no cost involved if you get a bad picture.

Heres one i took the other week. It was about mid day but quite shaded due to tree cover. i think it was about a 2 sec exposure. No filter was used.

Thanks for the advice. I think next time, if I have to shoot in full sunlight, I will bring along my ND filter. Otherwise, I will try at all costs to take pictures of running water where there is some shade, or a little earlier/later in the day.

One issue is that the range is too great to capture. The image has areas of pure white and pure black, a sign that the sensor could not capture all of it. The ND filter would not help with this but HDR would.
