Thank you so much for the wonderful pictures and commentary!!!! Teresa is going to be bawling when she sees the pictures of Becca and how happy she looks! I know I am a bit teary-eyed myself.

She looks beautiful in both outfits! Wow! I love them!

Just so you know, pettiskirts are appropriate attire for a quick trip to Walmart, church, the mall, the grocery store, etc...Just ask my nieces, or my daughter! :thumbsup2

I was hoping Heather or Teresa would chime in with appropriate places for pettiskirts! :thumbsup2

What beautiful pictures! I really love the step by step also! Teresa is one special gal, sending some special things to an amazingly special girl!

Really, really Thanks Teresa. She loves the Dress and Loves the petti. She knows that I think the Petti is just a piece of 'play' clothing but she says she doesn't care because she loves it:thumbsup2

Oh, my little sister knows me well!!!!!!!! http://gi244.photobucket.com/groups/gg36/Z2DYWCPOQ/b72ffce3.gif Just bawling, that's me! Oh my goodness, the happiness and joy I get out of seeing Becca so happy just can not even be described in any words known to man! THANK YOU!!!! http://bestsmileys.com/touced/2.gif

My girls often make Pettibouquets too!!! The Marge hair had me laughing so hard! And, as Heather said, pettis are everyday wear around here! Walmart, Meijer, McDonald's, the park, the zoo, the mall, religious meetings, or they are mighty comfortable for just lounging about the house. Not that I have ever personally done that myself. :rolleyes1

You can even hang from a tree in them!

These are the BEST pictures Mandy! Please thank Becca for being such a good model for us!

ETA: I've had lots of practice stuffing pettis into small bags and boxes! They are amazing resilient those pettis! Twirl them about for a bit and they puff right back up!

These wonderful pics of our Becca make me want to don a petti and twirl a couple of times, just because! What absolutely fabulous outfits on an equally fabulous Becca! Can't wait to see pics of her in action at Disney.

And no, before you ask (Heather and Teresa), I don't actually OWN a petti so it's a virtual twirl I'm going to do.:thumbsup2

On Saturday we received a Big Give Parcel from Momma2dakidz (Becky)
Thank You Soooo much Becky

First photo up…..The Opening
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20covers/IMG_0388Medium.jpg

What is this??? It’s Very colorful and big
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20covers/IMG_0390Medium-1.jpg

It’s a Tote bag stuffed full of Goodies! The bag itself is quilted with pale pink satin fabric on the inside and a pocket. On the outside there are 2 pockets on the front and back and 2 pockets on each of the sides.
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20covers/IMG_0394Medium-1.jpg

There was a large Tink (Fairies) water bottle stuck in one of the side pockets
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20covers/IMG_0404Medium.jpg

A Tink seat cover and back cover for Becca’s Wheelchair, WOW
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20covers/IMG_0399Medium-1.jpg

An Animal Print back cover for her wheelchair
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20covers/IMG_0401Medium.jpg

And if that wasn’t enough Becca finds Mickey Head back cover, all for her Wheelchair!! Oh, and a cat :)
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20covers/IMG_0408Medium.jpg

A close-up of the back cover where it says her name – She was as pleased as punch at this. The Mickey head is made out of furry fabric, which she loves
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20covers/IMG_0479Medium-1.jpg

A Seat cushion with a red cover to go with the Mickey Head. But, what you cant see is that the red cover comes off to reveal a silky black seat pad that will match the animal print and the Tink cover fits on the seat pad too!
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20covers/IMG_0411Medium-1.jpg

So Becca says……..This is neat!! When I change my custom clothes my wheelchair can change its clothes too!!! My wheelchair has three brand new outfits!

Next up some Monsters Inc!

The Tote still held something else
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Monsters%20inc/IMG_0416Medium.jpg

A little round container (on the red seat pad)which Becca is going to use for allsorts (she cant make up her mind) and a box of notelets. These are both Monsters Inc
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Monsters%20inc/IMG_0419Medium.jpg

Some a couple of disposable cool packs, multi-color pens and some markers with those fuzzy felt coloring pages, again, Monsters Inc
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Monsters%20inc/IMG_0421Medium.jpg

A Finding Nemo activity book
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Monsters%20inc/IMG_0425Medium.jpg

The Nemo book has Stickers 
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Monsters%20inc/IMG_0428Medium.jpg

Some Monsters Inc tattoos
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Monsters%20inc/IMG_0432Medium.jpg

All the goodies laid out in all of their glory
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Monsters%20inc/IMG_0473Medium.jpg

A cat!! I have no idea where she came from  The other cats leg is in several of the photos too
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Monsters%20inc/IMG_0482Medium.jpg

You can see the tote closer up in these photos, it is a really nice one and very pretty too, Becca loves it.

We are going to have a Wheelchair fashion show now, starring……
You have to imagine I am commentating.
Presenting………
The Wheelchair!! And Becca 

First down the runway comes the Tink Two-Piece
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20modeling/IMG_0460Medium.jpg

You can see that the red seat pad has been transformed into a Tink seat pad
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20modeling/IMG_0461Medium.jpg

Next down comes a versatile little number being a two-come-three piece
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20modeling/IMG_0487Medium.jpg

You will note the Animal print back with the silky seat pad
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20modeling/IMG_0489Medium.jpg

Just a two minute change and we can also have a dashing red seat pad with the animal print
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20modeling/IMG_0453Medium.jpg

Third down the runways struts this striking little two-piece in red
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20modeling/IMG_0434Medium.jpg

One added benefit to this outfit is that it wont be lost by its Momma, the name just shouts its flamboyancy out loud
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i10/llurgy/Wheelchair%20modeling/IMG_0438Medium.jpg

Of course, no runway show would be complete without the other half of the team….Presenting the complete outfit….
Becca, wheelchair and Tote

pretty cool fashion show and the red wheelchair looks good with all its new fashion choices.

Something I saw at the dollar aisle at Target might be nice. They had some plastic glow in the dark hearts for Valentine's Day. Some of them were the outside outline of the heart and some were a solid heart. They are made of a fairly thin plastic and I was thinking that the outline ones could be tied onto the wheelchair if you didn't want to put tape or anything.

great pictures she looks so happy all the time
sorry about your bracelet but I have to agree with her she needs both :lmao:

We have come to an agreement, I get whichever one she doesnt wear that day :)

I love all the latest photos! Becca is a great model! She makes me laugh. I make my DD11 wear leggings under her skirts all the time, but especially at Disneyworld!
I have packed allsorts, she is going to be such a mix up, it all depends on the weather....freezing here, warmer in Orlendo, but not by much at the moment, kinda hovering just below the 70's.

I think Becca needs to come give Dallas some lessons on being appreciative! I try to hard but he just isn't the way I would like him to be.

Becca's smile alone couldn't fake anything, she is just so sincere and I love that. I love the way she reads all the notes!

Anna's outfit looks great on! I love all the poses.

She loves getting letters!! The difference between Becca and Dallas.......Girl/Boy I am afraid:rotfl2:

I love the outfits....and the bracelets....and the autograph book. I want to learn how to make those and the crayon roll-ups. Aly wore leggings under her skirts most days we were there as it was quite chilly. I just bought the simple plain ones from WalMart and they worked great.
I am gonna have to learn the roll-ups too, I think they are so neat!
The leggings I bought by coincidence are in fact from Wal-Mart, cheap and cheerful but do the job :)

I can see from her face how sincere she is. I just love that! What a wonderful child!

I LOVE all the outfits you posted today!!! Shannon's shirt and capris are so cute on Becca!!! And Anna's skirt and top look great!!!! Thank you for all the pictures Mandy!!

Becca is basking in all of the attention....I dont know how we are going to live with her after this is all over. Thats one of the reasons I dont want it to happen yet, I want to look forward to it forever because I dont want to deal with the aftermath! Aw well, it is her Birthday at the end of April, she will have to look forward to becoming a teen.
I cant believe she will be a teen. Being an only child and homeschooled and because of her medical condition ,not being round kids all that much she is very very young of heart and very naive about the ways of the world. Its nice really, the fact that she is so young though :)

WOW!!!!!!!! Becca sure looks Happy in all these pics:goodvibes . Not too much longer for you guys and you will be there!!!! And we won't be far behind!!!:cool1:

She really is a beautiful girl with a wonderful smile!!!:thumbsup2 ;) :) :angel: :flower3: :wave2: ::yes::

those are great pictures :cheer2:
Thanks:thumbsup2

I was hoping Heather or Teresa would chime in with appropriate places for pettiskirts!

What beautiful pictures! I really love the step by step also! Teresa is one special gal, sending some special things to an amazingly special girl!

The petti in the bag.....LOL....Becca did call it a pink football:rotfl: when she opened the bag it sorta just fell out onto the floor and rolled away, It will forever be a pink football to me:lmao:
Thankyou so much for your giving heart Teresa

We were amazed at the stuff that came out of that wonderful bag....they just kept on coming, it was never ending :)
The grey cat is called Mya, she is a she and the seal point is Bitsy, a he......They like to get in on everything!

OH WoW!!!! When Becky said she was making seat covers, I had no idea how absolutely cool they would be!!!! Becca is going go have people trying to get her autograph, I mean, who but a celebrity would have such cool stuff!!! :confused3 :goodvibes

The fashion show had me laughing so hard!!! I love how much fun you guys are!!! Are you sure you don't want to go back to Disney in May?? :thumbsup2
Go back to Disney in May?? I wish!!::yes::
Becca and her wheelchair will certainly turn some heads, she has already experienced what just painting it does to the attention she has gotten since Wheelchair had a color make-over, I do not know what will happen now that Wheelchair has new clothes too!

I am so happy Becca liked everything. That Mickey head was my very first applique. Becca is one special girl and I am sure she will be treated equally special while at Disney. Enjoy and i cant wait for trip pics!!!!

ps so glad the cats got on the covers, the cat hair hopefully hid the dog hair. LOL
The Mickey Head was your first applique??? Wow, color me impressed!
Becca loved everything and we all thank you again for making such wonderful things!
There was no dog hair:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

pretty cool fashion show and the red wheelchair looks good with all its new fashion choices.

I may try those when we come back for Valentines.....The outline ones would be good tied to the spokes. Thanks for the suggestion:thumbsup2

We're home:)
Got home yesterday late afternoon but the leccie went down because of the weather.
Had a fantastical trip!
Met Amy, Jeff, Kayla, Noah and of course the "Full of Beanz - Never to be stopped - Little Nick" :)
Amy and I were bumping into one and other left-Right and center, twas fun, never knowing if they were going to be at Dinner, breakfast or one of the events GKTW put on nightly.
I have to get my piccies sorted, both for here and to send some off to MAW so they can develop some for us. We havent done anything to do with the trip since we got home.
Our weather here is atrocious. We just missed a boatload of snow yesterday morning and it started to freeze/rain last night and never stopped, it is still doing it now, we have about an inch of ice covering everything and trees and branches are crashing down to the floor by the minute.
I am just going to stop this message here and post just in case we lose our electricity again. I just wanted to post and say we ARE home and I will post more details as soon as we have stabilized.

Hi All,

I will get writing our trip report soon.

Becca came down with something yucky on Thursday, she is okay but has been either sleeping or lying around, I think she is having a come down from all we put her body through whilst there and a bit of cold/flu and just general "the holidays are over" blues, and I have been in an “I-Cant-Be-Bothered-To-Do-It” mood since returning.
Add to that the shoveling of Tons and tons of snow, the power outages and just general getting back into the swing of things :)

We have even gotten around to looking at the photos from GKTW village yet!! We are so bad aren’t we??
We do intend to look at the photos from GKTW this afternoon after we try and rid our 100 foot plus driveway of a mixture of snow and ice so that David will be able to get into work tomorrow - and home again.

Once I get started on the trip report I will be ok, its just starting it that is the problem, it looks a bit overwhelming. I also have to takes some stills from the video that David shot to try and fill in gaps from my photo taking - or sometimes lack of.
I took no notes what-so-ever whilst we were there so I have to totally rely on photos to jog my memory.
Please forgive the silence....It will be rectified soon.

Love Mandy

Not trip reporting yet I am afraid, but a report on some Fairy Dust pixiedust: we received.
Fairy dust report will be in the next post. pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Becca still isn't very well, she has aches and pains, no appetite, a low grade fever and doesn't want to do anything bar sleep. She is not getting better, but at least she isn't getting really bad. I thinks she just needs to ride out the storm, we are just really thankful that whatever she has came AFTER the Disney trip and not before or during!!::yes:: ::yes::

Anyways.....onto the next post and Pictures!!:cheer2:

I am going to start trip reporting……….Soon  :upsidedow

First I am going to tell you all about the “Fairy Good Mother” parcel Becca received from Darla whilst we were down in Florida!:goodvibes
Darla actually shipped Becca’s parcel 2 times, the first time the shipping label got wet and destroyed and the parcel got shipped to back to her.
She decided to send it directly to GKTW because time was running short and she wanted to make sure that Becca received it in time.
TeresaJoy had given me the heads up that a Big Give/Fairy Dust package was going to be sent to GKTW and to ask about it if it wasn’t given to us. It got to Thursday and nothing had been said about it so I went down and asked. They couldn’t find anything at that moment but said they would have a good look around.
We got a message that night after coming back from Universal that yes a package was waiting for Becca - someone had put it safe so it wouldn’t get lost but the place had been too safe :lmao: and it had been overlooked. I went down for it the next morning and still had to wait because the person whom had found it the day before had placed it in another safe :rolleyes2 location which was too safe :rotfl:
This was one package that was determined to get to Becca against all odds!!

Photo’s now :cheer2:

The strangest thing happened the other day...Lydia's mom posted that Lydia was not doing well and needed our prayers. And for some reason, in my wacky brain (or maybe it was a God thing), I thought about Becca. So I have been praying for Becca for several days now. Praying for Lydia, too...and Noah...all of you guys are having such a hard time!

Our sermon in church on Sunday was about persistent prayer. So...I am persistently praying for all of these Wish Kids...and specifically for Becca right now!

Hang in there!!!!

Becca has had her surgery and is in PICU.

At around 2 hours after taking her to surgery the brain surgoen came and told us that he had drained the abcess but unfortunately she had blood in the stuff they aspirated out and after a CT scan they had found that she was carrying on bleeding and filling the cavity they had just created by draining the abcess. Blood and bacteria had also managed to get into the left ventrical of the brain so we are in a fingers crossed and wait pattern at the moment.
She has a drain in her skull going down into the brain to try and drain the left ventrical and is on a whole slew load of antibiotics to combat the infection. We are waiting to see infectious desease people to try and pinpoint the bacteria she actually had growing in the brain. The abcess was spherical in shape measuring around 3cmx3cmx5cm plus a whole load of water that had gathered around it. The abcess is still there but is now full of blood instead of bacteria.
Becca hasnt really regained consciousness as "Becca" as yet, she has been awake and a little bit aware but doesnt really acknowledge us or anyone around her. We have been told that this is due to the trauma she has suffered, but they cant tell us whether or not this is a long lasting thing or will disappear soon.
She is presently having a CAT scan to see where she is at.

We are looking at at least 2 to 3 weeks in hospital with 3 to 6 months of antibiotics via a IV PIC line.

We are devastated and just want to see OUR little girl.

We will update as we can, it is hard when in PICU because we arent allowed electronics etc and have to rely on the hospital computer being free in the parents room.

Thanks for all of your prayers
Mandy

I haven't been back on the boards much since our son Mark's Wish Trip, but something compelled me to check in. I remember reading about Becca's Wish being granted while we were planning our trip.

I saw the message about Becca's surgery and wanted to pass along my thoughts - you are all in my prayers too. We will all be checking and hoping for a positive update soon.

Several of the Wish Kids on these boards and their families have faced major health challenges recently, I see now. I am reminded of how precious life is, and how our love for our families not only gives our children strength, but also sustains us through difficult times.

So...know that you are supported, and the subject of a multitude of prayers, from fellow Wish families near and far (we're from Toronto, Canada).

Hello all,
First of all I would like to thank everyone for all of your prayers, thoughts and good wishes, we are very grateful and need your continued effort.

Towards the end of the day yesterday Becca did start to come into consciousness a little bit. She still hasnt talked but does seem to know when someone is talking to her. She will squeeze your hand if you ask her to but not much else. She looks through you, not at you and because of the greater awareness she seems to be suffering from pain more than before.
We cannot tell if she recognizes myself and David but we do know that when she hears us talking it seems to disturb her a great deal.

At the moment they are pumping copious amounts of antibiotics into her to treat the bacteria which leaked into her brain. She is also on steriods for the swelling in her brain but they cant give too many of those because they interfere somewhat with the antibiotics. They feel that the bacteria is the life threatening condition at the moment and that overides the swelling so the bacteria takes precedence.
As for the pain, they are only able to treat with tylonol or a very, very mild opiate. Nothing stronger because they need to see that she stays stable neurologically and opiates mask reactions that they need to see in her.

We had 2 hours sleep yesterday from 10am till 12pm in a parents room in the hospital, this was the first sleep we had from 6am the previous day so we were walking zombies. We have a room now at the McDonald house so we got some sleep overnight.

We went over to see becca this morning, it must have been the shortest visit ever!
She has had a restless night with pain and was sleeping when we went in.......Until she heard our voices! She became very agitated and was moaning and tossing and turning and was just very unhappy. We calmed her down (she still doest show any outward sign of knowing us) and she went back to sleep.
We touched base with the nurse about overnight happenings and learned that she had been having more discomfort and had required more pain meds. As she heard our voices she again became agitated and started struggling again so we calmed her down again. We kept quiet for a while and just listened to the nurse talking to us and telling us about the over night happenings. At some point we had to talk again, becca noticed and again became agitated so we left.
We think that Becca does recognise when we are there now and it frustrates her that she cant reach us and we cant reach her. Or just frustrates her that we, her mummy and Daddy cant make her hell stop. Whatever, we are not helping being with her at this point so we are staying away for a while. We will go back throughout the day to see if the situation changes.

Thats it for now, I will carry on updating as I can.
Love
Mandy and David

Quick update.

Things are holding steady.
We have not been with Becca that much today. After seeing how much our presence seemed to aggravate her this morning we have been visiting her aproximately for an hour every 3 hours.
She has been prescribed Morphine for her pain and so was much more settled at the times we saw her. We kept visiting more for us than for her, it was nice to see her sleeping and not in obvious pain.
I dont think much else will happen medically over the weekend, they are testing her bloods, urine and brain drainage all of the time to make sure nothing changes for the worse, she is still the same as before in status only now she isnt in as much pain.
We are in for the long haul here but hopefully it will be sooner rather than later that we see light at the end of the tunnel. This is horrible, it is horrible seeing your child do things that you have never ever seen them do before, writhing and arching and grunting......No words, no smile, no recognition.

Thanks all for your much needed prayers, till tomorrow......we are going to settle down for the night.

Lord, You are such a good God. And we know that You give good gifts to your children.

Lord, we just ask that you will be with Becca tonight. Specifically that she would not be in much pain. That she would rest peacefully. Lord, I pray that the antibiotics will do their job in getting rid of all infection! And I pray that she would rebound quickly...with lots of strength and flash that Becca smile that we all have come to love.

Lord, I also pray for Becca's Mom and Dad. How difficult this has been for them. Lord, I pray that they would be able to get a very good nights sleep. I pray that they would sense Your Presence. I pray You would give them peace.

Lord, this is such a hard situation. I am so thankful that they started prescribing pain medicine for Becca. That will make everything better!

We love you. In Your Son's Precious Name - Amen

Thank you all so much for your continued support.
It means a lot to us. Being 90 miles away from home is hard, our main source of support at home is our adopted family her in the US, Becca's adopted Grandma and Grandpa. They are getting on in years and so we are holding off on them visiting until Becca is a tiny bit more stablized, it would upset them both greatly to see Becca like she is. So.......the support pouring out on these boards and in emails from our family in England we are taking great support.

Becca is around the same today. They are keeping her doped up on pain meds. Luckily she goes well beyond her prescribed time for the meds, she is allowed them every 2 hours but tends to go about 3.5 to 4 hours before needing more.
They are taking her catheter out today and her arterial line. They are trying to eliminate areas where infection could get into her body and the arterial line and the catheter are 2 lines that she doesnt need so desperately at the moment.
They are going to put a tube down into her duodenum today to feed her. They dont want to put it into her stomach for fear of her vomiting and aspirating into her lungs, but they feel that she has gone too long without food and so they have to put the feed line in. When the line goes in she with probably have to have a nurses assistant at her bedside all of the time to make sure she doesnt pull it out. She does have someone there for most of the time but if there is a tube in she has to have someone there every minute.
Even though she is not really there she is still being very stubborn. Everytime she comes around just the tiniest bit she is trying to pull the nasal canulla giving her oxygen away, whoa betide they put a mask on, she gets really mad then! Once the morphine goes in she settles and no longer tries to pull things out but you can see their quandary with her feeding tube and the risk of her pulling that out. Food in her lungs is one more big complication we dont need.

They grew a culture on the bacteria that came out of the abcess, it was strep and so they will try and put a regime of antibiotics to those cultures to see which set of antibiotics will fight it best. When they find this out they will be able to narrow the range of antibiotics they are giving her. At the moment she is on a really broad range. She still has a risk of Ventrical meningitis and so this stage is critical.
Becca still has the drain in her brain. I would say it is very productive, she is draining more blood and liquid now than she was doing in the hours immediately after the surgery. We do not know what this means, we wont really know until she goes for another CT scan either tomorrow or the next day.
Things are holding steady, no better but no worse.

I will update more as we find out.

Love
Mandy and David

Mandy, prayers are being said for Becca all over this country!

Mary is right, it helps to know specifics to pray for. Our God is an awesome God and knows her needs, but rather than a general "heal Becca" we can ask for specifics and then praise Him when we see them happen :)

I pray that you will feel His presence all around you! I pray that you will know that you are never alone. I also pray, in faith, believing, that Becca will receive healing. I pray that the wisdom given to the doctors will be supernatural. That God will fill the doctor's minds and hearts with the wisdom that they need to treat Becca swiftly and completely.

We believe for Becca!

Hi all.

Thanks for the continued prayers.
Becca still remains the same, no worse which is so good.

We went into see her this morning at just after 5am and she was stable and sleeping.
David went to work today......This will be ongoing so he is going to drive the 90 miles to work in the morning and drive back after work.
I will remain at the hospital except for today, today I have come home with David so that I can get our house in order, pay bills, pack some clothes for the long haul. We are returning this evening.

We took some photo's of our darling yesterday. One in particular may be a bit upsetting to some so skip past that one ok? :)
There are 4 photo's, it is the 4th that may be a bit upsetting.

Good afternoon all.
Little has changed regarding Becca's status from yesterday to today.
When we came in yesterday evening she was quite restless and had been since late afternoon. They had tried slowing down on the morphine around lunchtime but all this did was make her mad...lol
Trouble is is that when she gets annoyed she is holding her breath and her sats go way down. She usually runs around 72% to 74% when healthy, since the surgery she has been running in the 80's because she is on full time oxygen. When she gets annoyed it goes way down and takes ages to get back up again. There have been several times today that we have seen her sats go as low as 42% and that is not good.
Anyways...still the ongoing battle between medicating to make her comfortable but not masking neuro signs that they need to watch.....so the Pain team came around today.
They have prescribed one of those button things for the nurse to operate....she is allowed it every 15 minutes, she is also to get meds every 4 hours into her NJ tube, I think it is called oxymorphan?? Both meds are still opiates so they are also giving her Narcal??? - a drug to stop the opiate effects of the other meds. So she should be pain free but not asleep/knocked out all of the time.
The physical therapist has also started to come around to work with her on her arms and legs.
I dont know whether I said before but she has been showing that she has a marked weakness on her right hand side. She will wiggle her toes if asked but only on the left, she will grip with her hand but only on her left.

They think her speech loss is caused by where the needle went into her brain to do the aspiration, they feel that it may have bled down the track of the needle and when that blood clears up her speech may come back.

The neurologist came in today to see if her disturbances were neuron based versus tissue pain based, he feels that he thinks it is just straight pain or agitation and that for now he is not going to do anything with her, which he says is good as he says the less we have to do with him the better and he hopes not to see us again :) :)

We asked the neuro surgeon how long the brain drain was likely to be in and he said probably 7-10 days. At the moment it looks like strawberry punch, it has to go through a thick dark 'motor oil' stage and then a tea looking stage before finishing. If it finishes before then that is not good as it means the clot has not been dissolved and it is still in there which means it would have to be removed via surgery. A CT scan yesterday showed no lessening of the mask nor any growth of the mass, that is all holding steady.
The neuro surgeon also mentioned that after all of this is over there is a less than 50% chance that Becca's brain will have the ability to naturally drain its own ventricals and that she may finish up having to have an internal brain drain fitted.

David didnt go to work today with Becca being so unstable last night but he is thinking of going in tomorrow. It depends on what time we get to sleep tonight, with it being a 90 minute commute David has to make sure he has the energy to do the commute both ways, do a days work and still have energy left over to go and see Becca in the evening.

I think thats it for now........I shall update again as things happen. It is kinda hit and miss the times I can update.

Love
Mandy

Day 7
David didnt get to work yesterday because Becca was up and down all day, she is basically the same today but we cant do anything to help so David has gone to work today. I am taking a quick break for a coffee and some computer time.

Becca is still the same, she is pretty steady in most things barring her oxygen sats. They still keep dropping and tanking out. She is on 10 liters 100% oxygen plus a blow by on 5 liters when she needs it.
She either wakes or someone disturbs her and it takes only 30 seconds for her oxygen to tank out down to the mid forties/low fifties. It then takes about 30 minutes to get them back up to a respectable 70%-75%.
They are trying to leave her alone so they are doing lots of things all in one to try and minimize the desaturation.

A lady just came to our room with Valentines/Get Well cards that people have sent Becca through the online hospital facility.....They print them out like posters on thick card stock, they are very sweet and I read them to her whilst she was sleeping.

I will try and update some later.

Love

Hi guys, Mandy had David put me on the email update list for Becca and asked me to post the updates for her here, since she has limited internet use. I know she will be checking in when she can though. Here is the email I just got from David:

Becca Update

Today has been a big debate about whether Bic's aggetation is due to pain or neurological. She had a restless night and similar day. The nurses are attempting to cram all their activities into one time slot to minimize disturbances. Even so, she has been getting agitated and her oxygen sats have plummeted. They have been down in the 40's a couple of times today and taken a long time to recover.

ICU are very disappointed with the neuro specialists in their response to help and advice. If you recall they said there was nothing they could do! The ward have some specific questions that they want answering and for some reason, these have been avoided.

There was a change to Bics pain meds today. They felt the on demand med was not doing anything worthwhile, so they dropped that. They have doubled the oral pain med to once every 2 hours from every 4 hours. That seems to keep her rested for one hour. The second hour is then a constant battle with restlessness and falling oxygens. We are aware that the pain managment experts are at a loss as to what is going on and have had discussions with neuro about the best course of treatment.

Another change today was the reintroduction of a catheter. She has been holding on and it was realized that taking the catheter away coincided with the aggetation problems. That was done at about lunch time, but it hasn't made any difference. Everyone is clutching at straws.

I get the impression that PICU are thinking about moving Bic to a ward, but until this is resolved, she isn't going anywhere.

Physical therapy were round again today, but they abandoned their work because it upset her too much.

Bic had a small bleed from where the drain goes into her scalp. Neuro investigated and didn't think it was anything to be troubled about. They talked about re-doing the dressing in the next day or two.

A finger stick for glucose came back okay for Bic, so at least one thing is good! They also took a complete blood count sample, but we don't have any results back on this nor do we know why they want to do the test.

This prayer was said by Father Mike at Mass. He gave me the card after Mass and I wanted to share it with you. I hope that it brings you comfort and strength!

~Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for dear Becca and her family, who are in need of your comfort and healing. During this time of trial and illness may they find comfort in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you heal Becca and free her family from fear. May this darling girl and her family find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who heals and comforts the sick and downcast. Amen.~

much love to you all!

Quick update.
Becca has been taken off the pain meds because they were not working. She has been agitated now for 2 days and not getting much rest. This am they gave her a sedative and she is now sleeping like a baby so we are very happy about that :) :) She needs the rest and they were scared that she was going to pull out her brain drain because she was forever going at it with her hand or scratching her head on the bed and making it bleed.
Things are status quo at the moment so we will continue to look for improvement over the days not the hours.
They have approved her having the sedative regularly, not just a one time use so I am releived about that, she may be able to start healing from the inside rather than just fight everything.

Love
Mandy
