I didn't see our new thread yet, so I will start it. I am only down 1 lb this week but I figured that would be the case because of that time of month and the good loss last week. I am happy with averaging 2 lbs a week. I did way more exercise this week so it is a step in the right direction!

Got 100 pts in cow! Hopefully I can do that again!

Good luck everyone on a new week! I challenge each of you to push yourselves this week as I will try to do and lets see if we can really blow the competition out of the water this week!

What was your proudest moment this week concerning your new life style?

Question of the Day - Friday

What was your proudest moment this week concerning your new life style?

My proudest moment would be making it to the gym 3 days this week. Next week I'm hoping for at least 4 days.

I'm having a rough day today, I'm up 3lbs and extremely frustrated. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I haven't really lost much at all since the start and I'm actually up almost 2lbs since the start of the challenge. Any tips would be appreciated. Should I stay away from strength training and focus on cardio? I was doing a 10-12 minute warm up on the treadmill then doing about 20 minutes on strength training then going back to the treadmill for another 20-25 minutes.

I hope others had a better week than I did. I'm not giving up, I'll keep working towards my goal. I am so motivated this time around, its just frustrating.

well team, i forgot to WI this morning so i used my WI from yesterday. which is not good, i'm up 6 lbs from 4 days at WDW. i know i did not drink enough water there, i tried but their tap isn't very good to me and bottled water....jeesh...expensive! no excuses now and i'm glad i thought to pop in here, i just ate too many snacks. this is my downfall, i eat one and then say heck with it. my DD brought home cookies from her home ec and i had one and it was a very generous size. focus focus

i pledge that i will not SNACK any more today!

charity -- your workout routine looks like a great one to me :confused3 how many days a week? drinking your 84 oz of water each day?

cyber high fives to the losers --- TOUGH LOVE to the rest -- it is FAR TOO EARLY to back down, we have a long while to support each other and I NEED YOU ALL HERE! i'm not doing well either!!

If you start a new weekly thread please be sure to link it to the previous weeks so that everyone can find it and I don't come in behind you and post another new one. One of these days I will remember to post Thursday night.

I have a no change week this week. I am getting so frustrated. And to top it off I am starting to have my hip/groin injury flare-up which is making exercise more difficult. UGH!

I drink 4- 16.9oz bottles a day. I guess it will just take time for my body to catch up. It sucks though.

I know what you're going through Christa *hugs* to you.

I am the same weight as my last weigh in. Maintain is better than gain and I'm pretty happy because we had a 6 day vacation to Jordan in there! My DH gained 6lbs! Also have had LOTS of parties and eating out.

Proudest Moment this week.....
We had a pot-luck going away party for some neighbors. I brought chocolate kaluah cake, on request by guest of honor. I took a small piece, ate about 3 bites and threw the rest away!!! It was good, but not good enough to eat the whole piece!!! Baby steps.

congratulations to all the losers!

I will accept the challenge by Sarah. I will step it up this week. I will try the COW, I will count my WW points, I will USE the new exercise bike DH assembled today, I will make my team proud!

Good luck to everyone this week!

Week 5 - Challange of the Week Thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1977616)

So……. here is our second COW. For those who don’t know the rules about the COWS, I will post a new COW sometime every Thursday. Each challenge week begins 12:01 am Friday morning and runs till midnight Thursday night. I figure posting the COW on Thursday gives you a little time to “plan” out how best to complete the challenge before the clock starts. Please email or PM me your score by Monday morning of the following week. (So tomorrow’s challenge score is “due” the 20th, although I recommend you pm or email it to me on Friday when you email Brenda your weight.)
If you chose not to do the COWs at all, or only get around to doing a few items on the list that is perfectly fine. You will not hurt your team. The idea is to get you thinking and doing new things on this road to a new you, not to stress you out.

Please email or PM me your scores from last week beginning Friday. My email is ferretfeet@gmail.com if that is easier. Don’t forget to include your board name, team color and of course your score.

1 Take the stairs. This should be intentional stair walking as opposed to taking an escalator or elevator. This is above and beyond the basic stair usage such as walking up the stairs to tuck the kids in bed. Unless you are going up and down the stairs during a commercial break, most stairs in your home should not count (1 point for each flight-max 15)

2 Drink 6 glasses of water each day this week (5 points for each successful day -max 30)

3 Do something that is "on your list" that you have been putting off (10 points each- max 30)

4 Write a heartfelt letter to someone who influenced your life. Even if you have no idea where they are today. If you do, feel free to send it to them! (15 points)

5 Discuss with the group some ways you deal with stress that are healthy (and not so healthy) and how you plan on altering the not so healthy ways (10 points)

This thread is for all losers. Just like the Biggest Loser TV show challenges this is the place where you cheer for people not necessarily on your team. This is the place to get to know the other team’s members and make the whole group a big community. Now of course you still have to return “home” from this little utopia, since after all this is a competition.

So Ladies, let’s have a COW!

Question of the Day - Friday

What was your proudest moment this week concerning your new life style?

Yesterday my son's class went on a field trip. The one stop had 4 flights of stairs we had to walk up. Before I started exercising, I don't think I would have made it. yes, my legs were feeling the burn, but I made it up those stairs and in better shape than some of the people that *appeared* to be in better shape than myself. (After reading this weeks COW, I was wishing it started yesterday....we did MANY flights of stairs yesterday. LOL)

I am sad to admit that I had a 2 pound gain this week. :sad2: It was a tough week...2 birthdays, a 15 hour field trip, and this Sunday it's my DH's birthday party. Too many opportunities to fall off the wagon. :guilty:

I promise you that I am going to have a talk with my evil twin and get this under control.

Good Morning all.

I lost 2.5 LBS last week and down another 1.5 today. I worried because I am losing so quickly. I was up and down for a few weeks and now I am just dropping. I am going to visit my mom this weekend. She loves Pasta and bread and since I am doing Low Carb this will be tough.

Good luck to all this week and I will check in often.

.

Just remember everything is good (well not bad) in moderation. Have small servings of the pasta & bread and maybe fit in an extra exercise to help balance it out. Enjoy your weekend.

Now I'm frustrated!. I know that I shouldn't be tied to the scale....but after a 2 pound loss yesterday, I got on again today. Well, my 2 pounds found me. I know that's not real--I did well yesterday, so it must be water fluctuation or whatever. However, it didn't look pretty. Maybe I'll stay OFF the scale till Friday morning (yeah, right.....).

I made an "appointment" for this afternoon to go to the gym with a friend. That ought to get us both there!...and if she backs out, I'll go alone.

I am down 2 pounds this week. I did get a handle on my late night snacking, and plan to keep in in check. I really want to get down and stay at a healthier weight.

My proudest moment was one morning I did the jillian exercise video, and I was able to keep up and do all the cardio part. The push-ups are another story.

kcashner- I am a daily weigher too, and it's a tricky game to play. I know if it looks like I"m down a lot early in the week, sometimes that sends me off to reward myself, and when it's up when I don't think it should be, it's so frustrating, sometimes I think why bother. Don't let that scale get you down. I'm sure it's just daily fluid fluctuations. Keep up the good work.

lisaviolet- Happy Thanksgiving!! Have a wonderful holiday. :flower3: You deserve it!!

disneychrista-Thanks for being our captain!! I love the questions of the day, even if I don't get around to posting an answer, I do read everyone elses. Thanks for posting the challenge here. It's a nice reminder.

Congrats to all our losers!! Hugs for those who gained or maintained. Hang in there. We can all do this!!

Hello Red Team!!!! Where is everybody??? I hope out exercising!

Well, I'm working on the COW of the week.
Discuss with the group some ways you deal with stress that are healthy (and not so healthy) and how you plan on altering the not so healthy ways (10 points)
Stress.... I eat ;) I surf the net ;) I don't actually deal with stress in any healthy way...YET. So, to alter that, I need to NOT EAT and get off my behind. Yesterday I was stressed about Cub Scouts. So I spent time solving the problem, via e-mails, etc. Then I got on my new exercise bike and pedaled for 21 minutes while reading a book my DS13 has been wanting me to read. Today, no stress eating yet.

Last night I made the WW recipe for chicken and broccoli in garlic sauce. My whole family LOVES it and I should make it once a week! I actually ate if for breakfast, which is a high pt breakfast, so lunch will have to be low, low.

I also did a menu plan for the week, which will help me staying on track.

Good luck this week! Let's LOSE, I mean WIN!!!!

Large, modern city. We live in a compound, which is basically a "gated community." Life is good

Did pretty well food wise today. Didn't ride my new exercise bike. Not feeling great and couldn't make myself get on. Stayed pretty busy with everything else.

Tuesdays are challenging. Lots of running kids to activities, etc. I don't know how dinner will work... need a plan!

Discuss with the group some ways you deal with stress that are healthy (and not so healthy) and how you plan on altering the not so healthy ways (10 points)

healthy stress relievers for me are taking the dog on a walk, reading or scrapbooking. not so healthy are baking sweets, eating sweets, or just grazing. i think a way to transform that into a healthy habit is try some new healthy dessert/sweet recipes so i feel indulged some

I live in central ohio, about 20 mins outside columbus, ohio. many hours from WDW :sad2:

hang tight teammies! what are you doing for exercise tomorrow? i'm going to a chisel class and will do some cardio beforehand.

We live in northwest IL, about 2 hours west of Chicago, and an hour south of Madison, WI.

Now to do one of the COWS....to relieve stress I eat (bad bad BAD!). However, I will also call my sister, read a book, brush the dogs, take a nap, or just tell myself if there is nothing I can do to change the situation, then stop worrying about it. I have a couple strange health/diet/exercise questions. I think about things some times and figure I'd ask you guys.

GUM- There are few calories in gum but do you only have the calories if you swallow the gum or are they released in simply chewing the gum?

Exercise- When is the best time to exercise? IS it first thing in the morning? If so should you eat breakfast before or after?

I think that is all for now.

TIA<

I live in Danvers, MA which is about 20 miles north of Boston. Our leaves are really starting to change now and it's beautiful.

Discuss with the group some ways you deal with stress that are healthy (and not so healthy) and how you plan on altering the not so healthy ways (10 points)
KatyI definitely deal with stress by eating, and sometimes crying. I try to talk myself out of eating and will call a friend or my dsil who are great motivators.

GUM- There are few calories in gum but do you only have the calories if you swallow the gum or are they released in simply chewing the gum?I think the calories are in the sugar or flavoring that is in the gum which you swallow as you chew. Just my opinion.
Exercise- When is the best time to exercise? IS it first thing in the morning? If so should you eat breakfast before or after?I think any time that you can and will do it is a good time for exercise. I usually exercise first thing and then eat breakfast, but think I should probably eat first to fuel the body, and then exercise. I was reading the 3 hour diet, and the rules were that you had to keep your body fueled by eating at least every three hours. It also said that you should eat within 30 minutes of waking up every morning to get the metabolism going. I find with time limitations, it's easier to exercise first then eat.

Hear Ye Hear Ye, the Weightkeeper speaks

What an interesting week according to our numbers. I usually do my final crunching Monday. Sleep on it and review everything on Tuesday. I could not believe the numbers yesterday and today they still told the same story. No surprise there. So this is it for real and for true. Hang on here we go.

We started the week with 129 participants. This week 18 folks have been removed for not reporting for three weeks. So we are now at 111 participants.

-------------------Black Team-----Blue Team-----Red Team-----Total
started week---------42-------------43-------------44-----------129
removed---------------6--------------6--------------6------------18
current-members------36-------------37-------------38----------111
not reporting 1 wk------7--------------7-------------11-----------25
not reporting 2 wk------3--------------4--------------4-----------11
weigh ins for week-----26-------------26-------------23-----------75

Red Team Week 4

23 weigh ins
7 gains totaling 18 lbs
3 maintains
13 losses totaling 19.7 lbs
6 removed from challenge losses totaled 2 lbs

Weekly net loss 1.7 lbs
Cumulative net loss 112.7 lbs

Now the real fun begins. Let's look at our Red Team Superstars.

Again keep in mind that if you skip a weigh in your percentage lost for the next weigh in is divided in half. That only seems fair doesn't it?

Also I will plead again please state your weight for the week in the number of pounds you weight not just 'I stayed the same' or 'I lost 2 pounds'. I need the number or I will have to look it up and believe me I have plenty of other stuff to be doing.

Also again please report what team you are on and if you email me please include your DIS name. Still having some problems and I just wanted to state these requests in a larger font. Hey ladies don't make me shout next week.

And as usual keep in mind I am human. I do make mistakes. If you have a concern please PM or email me.

OK I have said enough. Now pay attention. With only 13 losers were you a superstar?

Question of the Day - Tuesday 10/14

Does the area you live in affect your weight, exercise, eating habits?

Absolutely! When winter rolls around here, outside time is at a minimum. I don't like to be cold. Winter also brings on a whole different array of foods...comfort foods! I'm more likely to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a good book.ummer brings healthier eating because of the foods coming out of the gardens...and alot more outside time. Spring and Fall also allow for more outside time. Winter can be a total downfall with the holidays and being cooped up.

Question of the Day - Tuesday 10/14

Does the area you live in affect your weight, exercise, eating habits?

Absolutely. Its really hot here, for many months. Hard to exercise outside and then there is the issue of dressing modestly, which is fine. But no shorts while walking/running when its 115+ is silly.

Also, just the social envirnonment. I go to lunch at least once a week and am invited to many "coffees", which i generally do not attend. We have "Happy Hour" most Thursday nights in our cul-de-sac.

But on the other hand, there are many opportunites for exercise classes and even a gym and pool at the compound we live in. So I guess I should try to be influenced in that direction!

Come on RED TEAM. Let's WIN this week!!!!!!!!!!! I was a maintainer last week, but I promise to be a loser this week! My scale is telling me I am doing well!!!!! Let's all try hard these last two days and Win!

Have a fantatstic Day!

Congratulations Melisa our biggest loser!!!! Nice job. Congrats to all the rest of us too, whether we lost or gained, we are here and sticking it out and we will be losers in the end.

We can be the biggest losers!! Let's beat that Black team!!

I live in new england, and really, spring, summer and fall are usually great for getting out and being active. Winter can vary, but like katybelle said, there are gyms for that. Can't imagine what 115 degrees feels like. I think I live in a great area for being active, and eating well, and it's not really the area that affects my habits.

Good luck this week everyone!

IExercise- When is the best time to exercise? IS it first thing in the morning? If so should you eat breakfast before or after?

i agree, whatever time you are dressed in your workout clothes and make the decision to follow through is the best time :goodvibes personally i do best if i eat a small breakfast first thing and then workout a couple hours later. I can swing a workout first thing if my schedule demands. also, once a week i meet with a fitness trainer and workout in the evening. i think a mix up is good, keeps your metabolism on it's toes.

Question of the Day - Tuesday 10/14

Does the area you live in affect your weight, exercise, eating habits?

sure thing..the hot humid days of July/Aug are dreadful to powerwalk in, and snow and ice in the winter put a halt to my outdoor walking. I have bought a TM this year (garage sale find :woohoo: ) which will knock out any of those excuses. summer BBQs, OSU football gatherings, and the like make weekends tough!

i'm sorry team that i added a gain last week, but so far this week i'm down and journaling so I should be able to rectify that somewhat  i'm thankful for this team making me accountable to lose the vacation pounds I put on! 5 more to go and i'll be where i started

Hello Red Team!

We seem a bit quiet this week. I hope everyone is doing ok.

I've a good week, mostly. I was out of town again this past weekend at a company meeting. The food was adequate, so I didn't go hog wild. I was a little worried since it's usually very very yummy. I also did AWESOME on the stairs (and to come back and see it's part of the challenge - woo hoo!) The elevator in the hotel wasn't working well, so we took the stairs too and from the 7th floor a lot.

I owe answers to a couple questions, so here goes:
Discuss with the group some ways you deal with stress that are healthy (and not so healthy) and how you plan on altering the not so healthy ways (10 points)
Food, is of course a way for me to deal, though I'm soooo much better with it than I used to be. I'm trying to be really aware of WHY I eat, as well as determine if something else or something smaller will fill that need. Often a small piece of chocolate will work just as well as the whole box of brownies (mixed, but not baked, please!)
Walking/jogging has turned into an AWESOME way for me to deal with stress. I also play with the dog. She loves it and it's hard to be angry at the world when you look at it through a happy dog's eyes.

Question of the Day - Monday 10/13
Where do you live? Country, City, State, Region....whichever you feel comfortable sharing!
Middle Tennessee, now. We recently moved here from Central PA. I love TN, but thanks to my house not selling in PA, I may be back to being a PA girl by the first of the year.

Question of the Day - Tuesday 10/14
Does the area you live in affect your weight, exercise, eating habits?
Of course. Weather (hot in TN or cold in PA) always plays a part, but for me it's more about being able to safely exercise outside because of traffic. If I'm in an area that i can walk in, I'm pretty much willing to walk in any weather.

Question of the Day - Wednesday 10/15

What Disney character are you most like/can you best relate to?

I am most like Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I love to read! LOL The only time you see me without a book is when I'm reading on the computer. That and she found love with the one person she couldn't imagine loving when they met.

My husband and I met ona blind date and he was so not my "type" but my friend told me to give him a chance and I did. Here we are 8 years later as happy as can be.

I'm doing good so far with exercise and I think I'm doing ok with food but I'm not sure my scale is going to be nice to me tomorrow. Let's hope it will be kind I don't want another gain after last weeks 3lbs gain.

Have a great day ladies and let's keep this team active!

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/16

Are you following a specific diet/exercise plan? Which one & why?

I am on the weight watchers diet. I do it myself at home ( I don't attend the meetings). I have had alot of success on it and its very easy for me, plus I can have the one "cheat" day if I want.
My exercising has mostly been walk away the pounds dvd's. I have several so I mix them up. I also walk my 2 Golden retrievers (or they walk me:rolleyes: ). This week I really am getting serious with my abs as well. I have been doing crunches and several other exercises that I found on the internet. Someone on this board suggested pilates, so I am going to give that a try as well.

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/16

Are you following a specific diet/exercise plan? Which one & why?

Diet plan: No, I think I may need to since I'm not dropping like I should be. I think I may be one of those people who need to follow an actual plan too at least to start.

Exercise: I'm making an effort to go at minimum 3 days a week for 45 minutes - 1 hour

Where was everyone on Wednesday? I'm the only to answer the question of the day and admittedly that was this morning.:goodvibes

Good luck in the weigh in tomorrow ladies! Get in your last chance workouts!

Anyone want to chat about the show (Biggest Loser) from the week?

I was glad Heba and her husband lost last week..too bad she stayed. She rubs me the wrong way...

Sad to see Shallay (SP?) go I really liked her. I didn't see her "now" picture but my mom told me she looked really good. I wonder if I can find the before and after pictures online somewhere.

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/16

Are you following a specific diet/exercise plan? Which one & why?

I started out (over a year and a half ago) following WW. I was attending meetings but now am just doing it on my own at home. I really love the flexiabilty of it and how I don't feel deprived of the things I love. It has taught me so much, things I can live with for the rest of my life. As for exercise, I pretty much just do whatever but try to change it up so I don't get bored. I rotate from exercising with my Wii Fit, my recumbent bike, BL DVDs, WATP, etc.

I was able to see Shallay's after pictures and WOW! She looks amazing. If I didn't know any better, I would swear it's not even the same person. It's definitely going to be interesting to see who wins the $100,000 at the finale.

I actually like Heba. Didn't care all that much for her husband but I like her. The one person that I don't care much for is Brady. There's just something about that man that I don't like. It's hard for me to type that because Brady my sons name lol

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/16

Are you following a specific diet/exercise plan? Which one & why?

I'm not following a program, but I set monthly exercise goals for myself, and have been meeting them since June. I really need to start picking apart my eating habits so I can make changes that I can live with everyday. The water drinking COW's have been the hardest for me. I'm a die hard Diet Coke drinker. (as I type I have one more glass of water to drink for this weeks COW....which will only make the third day this week...better 3 than none, though!)

I didn't answer the question about what Disney character I can most relate to because I'm still thinking! Does that mean I relate to whichever one is a procrastinator or indecisive? :rotfl2:

I must be losing my mind. I was sure I responded to this....

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/16

Are you following a specific diet/exercise plan? Which one & why?

I don't follow a diet plan. I have done WW in the past, both online and in person, and found it doesn't work for me. In fact, it seems to have the opposite effect. I just try to not eat as much. Over the last couple years, I've changed the way I eat - I no longer enjoy things like alfredo and cinnamon rolls - so I eat reasonably healthy, I'm just trying to eat less. It's still a struggle for me, but I'm getting better. I do wish I could do better with the veggies. I don't know what the issue is - I enjoy just about every veggie but eggplant and olives, I just don't seem to eat enough. I guess it's time to focus on that for a while.

As for an exercise plan, I'm just about to finish Hal Higdon's 15K plan. I'm doing the Tower of Terror 13K next week. After that I think I will move to his half marathon plan. I'll follow it sort of loosely for a while, though. I'd like to concentrate on my 5K. I'd like to get to the point where I'm running the whole thing. I really need a plan to work with. As much as I enjoy it most days while I'm doing it and every day after I do it, I'm still simply not an exerciser. I NEED the guidance and the accountability. I keep saying that one of these days I'm going to splurge for a personal trainer, I've just not been able to justify the money yet.

CharityLynn - you asked about BL. I don't watch it, but I was able to find Shallay's after pictures on the website. See if this link works for you:

I live in the in Naperville, Illinois which is the southwest burbs of Chicago

Question of the Day - Tuesday 10/14

Does the area you live in affect your weight, exercise, eating habits? My kids are in so many programs that run all different nights and times. Kids are very active here which is great but does not give me much home time. We were eating a lot of fast food because it was quick.

Question of the Day - Wednesday 10/15

What Disney character are you most like/can you best relate to? I would have to say...Mickey Mouse. He tries to make everyone happy and have great friends.

Question of the Day - Thursday 10/16

Are you following a specific diet/exercise plan? Which one & why?
I am currently on Atkins (low Carb) It is easy to follow. I know I can eat meat, egg and cheese. Stay away from bread, pasta and sugar and I am doing good.

It gets tough but it works for me.

Now I have caught up. I was at my mom's this week and didn't have time to check often.

Good luck with weigh in today
