There has been much discussion about the state of the economy, possible trip cancellations, and second thoughts about new purchases. How many are considering selling their DVC after the first of the year?

No way, no how!

The only way I'd sell my points is if I absolutely had to. Fortunately, we're not in the position so no selling for us.

Thank goodness, the sky is still blue. No, I am taking a beating on the Stock Market. I just opened some of my statements. It almost made me sick. Years of profit are gone. I have no plans to sell!

Hey Ms. Hope.... Only if my employer goes under will I sell, but at this point in time... it is something I have to be ready to do. It is very possible.

Not unless I have to sell. I think if things got really rough, I would look to rent out points first.

I have no plans to sell. I actually plan on buying more points.

It seems like a dumb thing to do right now. I have no plans to sell, and think if everyone is going to panic over every little thing like this, our economy will never recover. I think everyone should settle down and use common sense and all this will pass.

That ain't going to happen! DVC and WDW always bring a smile to my face. And at this point I think we all need something to smile about!:thumbsup2

There is less than a .1% chance of this happening. We have lost a significant amount of money this year, we're talking about in the range of about 40%, but we're still great in terms of our overall finances.

No! It would have to be a last resort... no pun intended! ;)

Yes, our 401Ks are down, yes our stocks are plumeting, but our mutual funds and investment advisor has done will with what we have, and we still saw growth this year. I agree that reacting in panic is no way to handle this situation. In times of trouble and stress, entertainment is the one thing people put a high priority on. It keeps us sane through the hard times. No, we don't ever plan to sell our DVC now or in the future!

We're in the process of selling 2 small contracts now, 1 is already sold and will close in Nov. We didn't put these contract up for sell because of the economy, but because we wanted to start a new UY. If the second contract doesn't sell over the next several months, then we'll just keep it and purchase a few less points at the GCV.

Things would have to get a lot worse, for us, to consider selling. As long as I can pay my monthly fees it only cost me gas money to get down there and back. We've got to eat here, so food cost is a wash. Like it has been said before, DVC/WDW is our oasis from the real world. :cloud9:

Absolutely not!

Just because my 401(k) and IRA balances have dropped is no reason to sell.

The only reason to sell would be if I desperately needed cash right away, however the problems on Wall Street haven't stopped my pay checks.

It would also be a bad decision to sell DVC when demand may be falling, as you wouldn't get the best price.

We're definatley not selling!! I just lost my job but luckily my partner has an excellent one so we're not in trouble, and I'll find something else pretty soon I'm sure. We need the time to get away from work and pressures and luckily we can still afford a vacation or two...the December trip is already paid for/saved for anyway.

I suppose I should never say never...but for now, we're actually even more relieved to own DVC. I lost my job 8 months ago - but at least we feel like with DVC we can still get away without feeling TOO guilty. Because most of our vacation last summer was already booked with points and we had AP's to use we didn't feel like it was a necessity to cancel. I had a lot of people ask me if we would cancel our vacation but it didn't really make sense. We already had the cruise covered with points, we had the AP's to use & our airfare had been booked pre-layoff etc. I actually didn't feel like we were doing anything wrong by going. We overspent while we were THERE, but...:rolleyes1

Anyway, for now, we're still planning to go next August...probably not before then tho. And for the first time, depending on the price of airfare, we may consider driving down. The biggest thing for us will be that we will have to buy new AP's before we go.

there was another you should have put on your poll

selling your current DVC to buy another one - yea I know big money loss -
but after 15 years at OKW - selling off the big contract 190 to buy BLT.

wasn't going to do that - but looked into it - and decided it was probably for the best - only going to get between 110 and 115 points at BLT - was aiming for 60 points (might go with 120 now)

so despite going to BLT my maintence fees will be less for at least a few years.

now still love OKW - and will have 50 points even after this.

since I hope won't need alot of money for BLT - might do a small add on at AKV.

just depends on how long it takes to sell.

No, I am not going to sell.

Now is not the time to panic although many are. I wouldn't call DVC an investment, but I could have easily put that money in a worst place, I think. DVC has tremendous value, I think.

No plans to sell. Plus we plan to buy VGC. It would be kind of nice if the economy influences the over all cost though.

Currently DVC is looking like a nice place to stash our money!

I'm definitely not selling!

Its times like these that makes me love my small contract. I was going to buy BLT, but probably won't now.

I wish I would have taken all of my money out of the market a year ago and given some of it to the mouse instead of the bear. I'd have the same amount of money -- just more DVC.

I'm not planning to sell now, even though I'm feeling like I have too many points.
(870). 240 are AKL spread out over three contracts. I'd like to eventually sell two of them. I'm afraid I got caught up in the hoopla of the promotions.
We love going to AKL to eat and look around. But, I'm not crazy about staying there for any length of time due to the lack of proximity to anything by foot. I understand those who love it because of the animals, but we have a really great zoo in Portland that we visit quite often for zoo concerts and I like to go there just to walk.
I'm not sure I could sell them now, anyway, by looking at the resale page especially with the great incentives DVC is offering.
I'll be buying Cali when they are released.

No way! If we have to rent to a friend or family member or bank points for a year, that's what will do. I've had to adjust a lot of our finances already due to being on bed rest during pregnancy and now I'm back to work a bit more (thankfully I work in our family business.) We know this is temporary (yes, we're seeing a bit of issues at work and it is reflecting in our own pockets but we're not in a panic.) We measure our relief in years ending 8 years from now when we make our final mortgage payment! I cannot wait for that day!

Not selling! It's a paid for get away for us. We will tighten up some of our activities but we will still vacation and have fun! The only way I would ever sell is if I were in a financial bind and there truly was no other alternative. Sometimes you have to do what you don't want for the good of the family, but for right now we need Disney and good times more than ever.

Several friends and acquaintances have lost their jobs, it's getting bad out there, as of now we're holding our own! In fact Disney here we come, Oct 16-Oct 19th (AKV) Can't wait.

Isn't this poll alittle like asking a bunch of alcoholics who wants to have a drink? :lmao:

Isn't this poll alittle like asking a bunch of alcoholics who wants to have a drink? :lmao:

I did think of this before posting the poll....I was hoping there would be some who would be truthful when voting. Times are very hard right now......even with job losses, people will still vacation! This amazes me. I thought if I got a true accounting of those whom really are thinking of selling, well this would negatively reflect on Disney projected sales at new resorts. The fact that Disney has not been ROFR'ing lately, new resorts opening, and the prospect of new sales on the market, this will not bode well for DVC.

One benefit of DVC is that the most costly portion of my vacation - lodging - is already "paid for." Why would I give that up?

If anything hard economic times makes our DVC membership that much more attractive. We live on our retirement incomes and that doesn't leave lots of extra money to do other things. We are comfortable, but do have to live within a budget. With our DVC contracts, we know that we can take at least 3 good vacations each year without it costing us a lot of money. Now I can see us cutting back a good bit when we are down at WDW (and especially at HHI). After our AP's expire, I can easily see us doing some park free trips. Plus I can see us not eating at many TS restaurants. Also, I see us eating more meals in our unit. This is especially true when we stay in a 1BR. I can also see us perhaps cutting down on the number of trips, but perhaps staying longer each trip to save on gas. I imagine there are all kinds of different ways you can save money on a WDW vacation.

PS - I thought of another way to save money. DW and myself have gotten to the point where we split meals quite often. This could easily be done at WDW. The first thing that comes to mind is the sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich are huge. The last few times we've been DW and myself have split one.

We just bought and have no intention to sell it anytime soon. We should have bought more points back in May when the US CAD exchange rate was at par. Oh well.

We do not want to sell to rid ourselves of DVC - so I answered NO WAY. However, the thought has crossed our minds - just to switch one contract to another home resort. Then the bottom fell out of the economy, and we decided to wait for a while. I think that eventually we will put one on the resale market - just not now. And then right after, we'll buy again! ;)

If things were to get really bad, then maybe we'd consider it, but right now we both have stable jobs and can afford the luxury. If something were to go wrong that seemed short term we would just rent our points until things leveled out again. Selling them is really the last option at this point.
