When you exit from the library to get in line for the ride there is a wall of electrical boxes and one of them if you pull the handle makes a very loud bang sound. If you happen to be in a large group when you come out they all get a good scare from the loud bang. We've done this a few times. :goodvibes

Those aren't the only ones in the queue, but good find! I have never heard from a guest who actually knows about those :)

You will find them right as you exit the library on your right hand side. I'm not sure which one it is as DH is the one that always does it but you have a better chance of finding it if you are coming out of the library of the right hand side which is the farthest back in tha hallway when you exit. I know their are other boxes as you are in line but we haven't gotten any of those to do any thing special. Funny you all are hearing about this for the first time as I heard about this hear on the boards a long time ago. :goodvibes

i told DD, DS and DH about it...they all couldn't believe we've never known about it....together we've ridden it hundreds of times since it first opened...

but we sort of figured it must be at the very beginning, since we're always in a race to get out of the library and ahead of everyone else into one of the lines...
next time we'll take our time and look around right at the beginning...

I'd love to try it, but with my luck I would pull the wrong one and shut the ride down for four hours or something! I'll just keep my hands to myself.

I don't know if its still there but check out the display board right inside the lobby. You know those "boards" (you press in the letters/numbers) that annouce which party is in a specific room, banquet hall, or event. It's before you enter the library room.

If you look at the bottom there is (was) a message spelled out. We noticed this during our 1997 trip -- not sure if something has changed.

Very cool info! DH refuses to try this ride but it is one of the favorites of mine and DD(14). I have convinced him to go through the queue until the chicken exit as the theming on this ride is just exceptional. With this very cool tidbit, perhaps I can give him one good scare before he (prematurely) exits!

I didn't find the box. I asked a CM about it, and she indicated that it would shut down the attraction. I seriously doubt the information she gave me. Why would they put a box within guest reach that would shut the whole thing down.

But I happened to meet TJ, who's the "face of the Tower of Terror". He's the person you see in the Travel Channel Videos. I asked him about the box. He said it's on the other side of the wall, but it's very noisy and may disturb the people in the library. He didn't indicate, however, where it was located.

In case you don't know who TJ is, here's a picture I took of him and my traveling companion, Susie.

I don't know if he started at the Haunted Mansion. He's been with Disney for 24 years, and was on the opening crew of the Tower of Terror. So he's been with the Tower of Terror since July 22, 1994.

We got to meet him when we asked to see the control room for the Tower. We had asked before, but they were having a meeting in the control room. This time they let us in. We were thrilled to meet TJ, since we had seen him on the Travel Channel.
