We are a family of 8 planning on taking our first trip in January. I know they have villas that sleep 8, but do any of the deluxe hotels have connecting rooms?

Yes and if you are booking a Magical Gathering (8 or more guests) they make sure the rooms are at least next to each other.

They all have connecting rooms. You can request connecting rooms but Disney will not guaranatee it unless you are 2 adults with 6 kids. Since you are 8 (as long as everyone is 3 or older) you will be set up as a Grand Gathering. This will pretty much guarantee your rooms will be close, if not connecting.

Thank you for the fast replies!

Can you tell me about the grand gathering you both mentioned?

You're welcome!! When booking that will be one of the prompt questions. Say yes and you will be directed to the proper CM to book the gathering. WDW has many special options for grand gatherings-dinners etc. You do have to pay for them but are only offered with the Grand Gathering. I haven't done this (we had 7) but I'm sure if you call you will get all the information necessary. One of the things for sure is they do place your rooms in a row and some may be connecting.

I just looked it up on the WDW website and unfortunately we wouldn't be eligible for the grand gathering. It's for ages 3 and up and our youngest is only 1. So you think there is still hope to get connecting rooms?

ETA the 8th person is my mom, so I don't know if it would be a priority to put us next to each other. Anyone have any hands on experience with connecting rooms?

Most times we go to WDW we travel with someone else, I never seem to be able to go with just my family, we usually have a couple of others with us. During out last 4 trips down (2 moderate 2 Deluxe) we told the reservations agents at Central Reservation we were travelling with (insert name here) and each time we had connecting or rooms side by side.

POFQ connecting rooms with my mom DSister was just down hall

POLY Connecting Room with my DSister (didn't request that just told them we were travelling together)

POR Connecting Room and the Rooms right next door with Mom and Dsister 3 rooms total

FW connecting rooms

We stayed at POFQ and requested ajoining rooms and in building 5 at time of booking and then we sent a fax the week we were traveling and we did receive it. I'm not sure if the fax helped but it was worth a try. We were also were only booked for 4 nights together.

Just have your request for connecting rooms noted on your reservation. Doesn't matter if you're doing a Grand Gathering. Anyone can request them. Be sure to ask for connecting rooms. In Disney-speak, adjoining rooms means rooms that are next to each other, but not connected by a doorway.

FW connecting rooms Are you sure? FW has tent-camping sites, RV-camping sites, and cabins. No connecting rooms. Do you mean you had a cabin with a living room and bedroom?

I was wondering the same thing, maybe Wilderness Lodge not Fort Wilderness.

Ok, now I know why it's reposting things I've already posted, lol! Apparently clicking the mouse (not mickey, lol) to go back makes it post again. Whoops sorry all.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the input. Here's hoping I can make the phone call this weekend and get those rooms booked! :goodvibes

You are only guaranteed connecting rooms if the children outnumber the adults. This is what a CM told me when I tried to book a trip for 3 adults and 3 kids. You can always request it but it's not a sure thing. If it's a slow season, you'll probably get them.

That's not necessarily true (i.e. you're not guaranteed connecting rooms, even under the conditions stated). While it may not be most adults' idea of ideal, if you have at least two adults and up to six children (eight at POR and most Deluxe properties, plus two infants under three), each adult and up to half the children can stay in one room, and the remainder of the party in another, non-connecting room.
