Has anyone taken any of the classes they offer, or is anyone planning on taking them this Spring?
I might take either the Corporate Communications and/or Exploring Communication Processes classes

This is the one part of the program for some reason I know nothing about...I should probably learn seeing as my interview is Friday. I really feel like I should take classes down there so it's not a wasted semester credit wise I just know nothing about the classes and stuff...

I took Hospitality Management my first CP. And I plan on taking a few classes next CP (even though I will have graduated).

I am currently in Corporate Analysis and my People Management class starts next week. I am not getting any credit (I've already graduated) - but let me know what questions you have!

I just found out from my advisor that I can't get any credits, but I may try to get some through another school if I can
Do most people take classes? Is it alot of work?

I'm planning on taking a class or two even though my advisor said i won't get any credit for them. I'm thinking about forsure taking 'marketing you' since that class sounds really interesting. Then maybe the hospitality management one or something.
At nothing else, it would give me the opportunity to meet more people and maybe network some more:)

Enough do. And my class wasn't really that much work.
Also, like I mentioned before, I plan on taking a few classes for Fall 09. I won't be getting any credit for them (since I will have graduated) but it would be my last chance to take them.

I opted not to take any classes. I only had one semester left of college after my program and would not receive any credit for the classes. I felt as though if I wasn't getting any credit for them, then it was not worth my time - I'd rather be using that time to have fun exploring Florida, especially since I was going to be graduating soon and moving on to big girl world. I don't know too much about the classes, but if you want to take a class and have not taken any classes at your school that go in depth about resumes or interviewing, then try Marketing You. Those type of classes are usually very beneficial.

Has anyone taken this class? I want to know if we actually do stuff or just sit around for 4 hours listening to someone talk.

based on what it says in section 6 of the pdf link on the website about getting "an in-depth tour" of Central Shops, "This group maintains and develops many company-wide elements, including Audio-Animatronics figures, character costumes, and more."
I'm guessing not every week would be lecture. If that's not a field trip I don't know what is...
The description of the Transportation part of it also hints that you might get to see inside the monorail maintenance facility.
here's that pdf http://www.wdwcollegeprogram.com/sap/its/mimes/zh_wdwcp/syllabi/EngineeringPDS_info.pdf

I haven't taken any of the classes that are offered but I did have a friend who did. This was back in 2006 and I am not sure how much the program has changed, but back then if you take classes, those classes are going to be on your days off. If you are like most people, you will probably want to spend those days off washing clothes, cleaning, or most importantly, going to the parks and having fun...therefore, if you have classes on those days off, you won't have a lot of time to do fun things.
I believe my friend had two classes, but you can take only one if you want to I think. Those classes were optional back when I was a CP and I believe they still are. I didn't take any classes because they didn't offer any classes for my major.
Hope this helps!

i read on the wdwcollegeprogram site that those staying the 4 months take one of the classes and those staying for the advantage program take 2.
There are four sessions of classes - they each run for about 3-4 months with some overlapping. You may take two classes during each of the sessions. If you do a regular program you will only be able to attend one session, whereas the advantage programs will be there for two sessions.
are the classes a lot of work?! would it be hard to work and take two classes while down there? i reall want to take organizational leadership and the comm class because i am an organizational comm major...would it be a horrible idea?!:confused3
The classes really very based on the type of class. The Professional Development courses have no homework - so it's only work if you have a hard time attending class. The collegiate courses do have homework, but the one I am in only requires about 1-2 hours a week of work on the homework, so it's not bad at all.
You are only allowed to miss one class in the Professional Series and two in the collegiate courses. If you miss more than the allotted amount you are automatically dropped from the course - no exceptions.

Yes and no - You are guaranteed to have the time off for your class, but if you have a morning class that ends at 11 they can still schedule you to work that afternoon. Each department works a little bit differently when it comes to scheduling around classes.
I'm in Entertainment, so my Red Time (always off) is my class day. I'm in two classes, but opted to take both of mine on Wednesday (9-11 & 1-4) so I always have Wednesday off; then I get another day off too (usually Tuesday or Thursday). It's also pretty common for me to get a third day off, but I try to pick up something so that I only have two days off.

I am not a hospitality major, but I am looking to extend my knowledge of the industry. I want to take the hospitality course, but I have only my experience in a five star hotel last summer. Would the course be too overwhelming for me? Or is it a good idea?
If journalism doesn't work out, hospitality is my next shot.

ooohhh so since I'm doing advantage and will be there for two class sessions, and each class session can do 2 classes, I can theoretically take 4 classes total?? I'm really torn on a few of them, lol.
one I want to do is the hospitality one. For one, it's my major and two, it's my role offered, lol.
the next one I want to do is the marketing you one just because it sounds like it could be pretty beneficial.
a communications course sounds neat too, lol.
see, this is why i had the hardest time picking a major:rotfl: I just like too much stuff, haah!

there is a ton of information right on the college program website about lots of different stuff, including classes. I went to this link:
http://www.wdwcollegeprogram.com/sap/its/mimes/zh_wdwcp/students/education/edu_collegiate.html
from there, it lists what classes are offered and you can even download a syllabus and see what they do week to week:)

I was accepted for Spring Advantage Program in Lifeguard. I want to take 2 classes in professional development, probably finance and marketing. because I want to prepare myself for professional internship. Do you have any information about the professional internship? Is it hard to get an offer for PI@@?

It can be. The PIs accept a lot less people then the CP does. But at least the PIs are more major-specific.

Do you happen to know the wages for the PI? I want to do an animal program once I graduate, but a lot depends on the money since I'd have to get a non-Disney apartment.

Hello everyone!
I am really interested in the Engineering class since my major is Information Systems. I was wondering if the actually give you a grade and tests for this class. I would like to know this since I graduate on January 2009 and I wont be getting any credits for this class. Don't want to lower my gpa either.

I'm also taking the engineering class and nope, no tests or grades. We just chill with different engineers for a few hours every week.
Edit: Will you be allowed to take the engineering class? I know on the website it says open to engineering majors only. My school doesn't offer information systems so I'm not too sure what it is but it sounds like it could be related to my major, industrial engineering.

Thanks for the reply! Well the Computer Information System major is about Programming, Network Architecture, Database etc. It is kinda like Computer Science but focusing in the Business area. We are under the Business school instead of Science/Math school (Computer Science).
It would be awesome if you can tell me more about the class, your experience so far, whether you are liking it or not, etc. I would really appreciate it :).
And another question, how does it goes with your schedule? Do you find yourself not having enough free time? I fear that taking this class will left me with almost no free time. I will be doing Merchandise.
Thank you!

Sorry, I think I worried my reply wrong. I haven't taken it yet but I plan on taking it in the Spring. I actually haven't heard of anyone who has taken it already. I've been asking around for about a year and no one seems to know anyone who has taken it or details on the class.
I wouldn't worry about the class interfering with your schedule. According to the website the class is only two to three hours once a week and no homework so it shouldn't be too bad.

My son is planning on taking this class this Spring. He's a mechanical engineer major. I think he read that you sign up for the class on check in day. I was wondering if you knew any more sign up details. Thanks!

Well to be considered a sophomore you need 30 credits so just do the math. Some schools do it by year so second year would be a sophomore regardless of credits.
At the end of my freshmen year I only had 29 credits, then did calculas over the summer at ended up with 33. If you're that worried about it just take some summer courses.
Edit: It also depends if your school even accepts the credits. My school gives absolutely no credit for any CP classes or for the CP itself. If you are being given credit for the internship itself and the class then you'll be okay.

I'm getting credit for doing the program through my school's cooperative education program (12 hours) so is it necessary to to take classes through the CP? I'm also enrolled in 15 hours of distance-learning online classes so I can stay on my parents' insurance.

You can take TWO classes at a time through Disney, but the actual credit depends on what you set up through your school.

It's not bad at all. The Professional and Exploration have NO homework... the Collegiate class I am in does have about one assignment a week, but I've never spent more than 2 hours on any of them.
I did a Vlog about the classes I'm in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fevpof8-IoQ

Classes are free in the way that there is no tuition to pay. You still have to pay for materials like text book and such...

Hello! I'm a CP alumni (spring adv 07) in Hospitality and Housekeeping (unofficial resort hopper, I guess). I'm also a campus rep at my school and a hospitality major. I am also heading out to Orlando January 5th for my professional internship! I'll be in Guest Relations at Magic Kingdom- so maybe I'll see some of you there!
My recruiter told me, when I asked about courses, that the hospitality course disney offers is excellent. HOWEVER, if this is your major...it would be like sitting through an intro course in school. It's very basic and mostly aimed for people who are interested in the field but don't have previous experience in it.
I did the exploration series in guest relations...it was fantastic! If you're a hospitality major...I definitely recommend this course. You'll have leaders from all over property coming and talking to you. It gives you a better sense of how everything all flows together in a hotel or resort. I definitely think hospitality majors will benefit from this course.
Another course that is highly recommended is the Marketing U course. I really wish I would have taken this class. The leaders who teach this are phenomenal! You'll really make yourself stand out above the rest with the help they'll give you in updating your resume and "selling yourself." And trust me...they do amazing work. I had Lowell Doringo take a look at my resume and help me update it...my resume BEFORE...I would have thrown away if I was a manager...my resume NOW...well, it got me my job with Disney. :)
Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I've created a newsletter for students from my school going to WDW and every week I include information on courses, roles, what to expect upon arrival...all the good stuff I wish I would've had before I got to Orlando.
Facebook me! :) I check it everyday...or hour...or minute.
