Just got home from Saratoga.
The place is GYNORMOUS! I was so surprised by how spread out it is. But very very quiet. Serene.
We were in Congress Park across from DTD. Able to swim in our pool each night and have it be just us. One night we went to the main pool. Nice pool, but crowded of course.
The gift shop/snack bar is nice and clean. Lots of SSR and DVC merchandise. The CMs are wearing pin lanyards so you can trade.
The buses were frequent. You won't wait long unless trying to get from DTD to SSR. Long wait and early in the day, you may have to go to Typhoon Lagoon first, but it was relaxing.

On Saturday night, we were relaxing in our room when all of a sudden it sounded like a war zone outside!!!!!
The DTD fireworks were going and we were standing by the pool by our room and I tell ya...It liked to stop my heart! I felt like I've never been so close to fireworks in my life!! My DD and I agreed...it was kinda scary!:scared1:

SSR has wonderful pools. It has the main pool called High Rock Springs, which has a zero entry, two slides (a long one and then a short one that is great for very young kids). It has a Donald Duck splash area that kids love. Very often the lifeguards play games with the kids at the pool in the afternoon. There is a very nice arcade next to the pool my kids love. SSR frequently has classes (for a small fee) for kids, craft type things, towel animal making classes, that sort of thing. The pool in the Grandstand area at the resort has these huge spray cannon things kids love as well as some fountain type things. Very fun. Then there are two additional quiet pools which my kids love since they can often have them to themselves.

The boat to DTD is a big hit with most kids and you can walk to DTD as well. So easy access to the Lego Store!

The grounds are fun to explore, lots of ducks and bunnies to enjoy. You can rent bikes and surrey bikes which is a lot of fun and something my kids look forward to each stay.

We have traded pins many times at the gift shop at SSR, my kids have scored some very good pins at that store! And you can rent movies for free at the gift shop there too, they have a decent selection. All units at SSR have a DVD player.

My kids love this resort, we have been staying there around three years now and its a favorite of thiers. They love the spread out feel, plenty of room for them to enjoy. There are also a couple of nice playgrounds at the resort that are great for kids. We are used to OKW, POR, CBR and CSR so SSR doesn't feel any bigger than that to us. When we stay at a smaller resort on Disney property, we really miss the grounds resorts like SSR have. There are plenty of shortcuts to connect you to the main areas. We have stayed in all sections but Congress Park at this point and never felt disconnected or too far from anything. But again, we like the big resorts!

I hope your kids love it as much as mine!

I've only ever stayed at DLR hotels (GC, DLH &PP), so SSR felt like it should've been it's own city! LOL!

WOW.. thanks for all the details!

I love hearing about this resort.. anyone have pics?

We stayed at SSR in april and LOVED it. So much so I just booked to go back:) I have 3 kids and in april they were 2, 4 and 7. The bigger ones loved the big slide at High Rocks pool and the little guy loved the little slide. They have "pool party" on sundays and the kids got a kick out of the games.
We didn't really go in the arcade we were too busy but it looked fun. They also have bike rentals and movies at the pool in the evenings.

We stayed by the Grandstand which has a great "quite" pool with a splash area very neat. I really liked after a busy day we could come back to the resort and relax:)
Have fun.

I've only ever stayed at DLR hotels (GC, DLH &PP), so SSR felt like it should've been it's own city! LOL!

Yeah, if those hotels are your point of reference, SSR would seem pretty huge! And it is actually a very large resort. I love the DLR hotels, DLH is my favorite and in fact its about my favorite hotel anywhere. But its hard to compare! Heck, All Star Movies about blew my socks off, it was the first WDW resort we had stayed at after being onsite in Disneyland. So you are not alone!

Bankbunny, thanks for the incredible pictues! I'll be there in two weeks!:cool1:

5 for WDW

We are DVC members and SSR is our home resort. We love everything about it. It is a beautiful resort. The grounds are gorgeous. My kids love the pools. The rooms are newer and the decor is great.
It is a large resort but, our daughter walked around for 10 days last September with no problem at all. She was just shy of 4 and we left the stroller in our room.
The walk to DTD was pleasant. Artist's Palette had lots of great choices, even for my very picky husband.
We will be back at SSR in December and we can't wait!

10-07-2008, 01:38 PM
Thanks for all the pics... it looks so nice... its so nice to see what its really like.

What area should I request.. I know no gtd but I would like to request.. is it nice to face DTD? or do you prefer the pool?

Do you ever get a free upgrade when arriving and only booking a studio? I just wondered if that ever happens?

10-07-2008, 07:59 PM
Can anyone tell me what dishes etc are in a studio....size of coffee filter...
doI need to buy paper towels dishwash soap etc...we are going tostore before I get there so need to know what I need..is there a freezer in the fridge?
Thanks a bunch

10-07-2008, 09:17 PM
They had like 8 paper plates and bowls, small 4 cup coffee maker with the one days worth of coffee. The had like a small bottle of Palmolive dish soap with a scrubby sponge and dishtowel and they had paper towels too.

Thanks for starting the thread. We will be there in a little over a month for the first time. Can't wait!!!:yay:

thanks again for all the info!

Now, since this is a DVC resort.. and I will only be there a few days.. I have no housekeeping right?? Where do I get fresh towels? How does this work?

I stayed at SSR in December 2007 and loved it. I'm probably one of the very few that received an upgrade from a Studio to a 1-BR at no charge. Also, I never make any room or location requests when booking my reservations. I would suggest that you ask when you check in if there are any 1-BR's available and what it would cost to upgrade. Enjoy your trip.

If you are staying there as a DVC member or rented points from someone you are correct re housekeeping. If you booked through Disney as a hotel stay you have all the housekeping services as any hotel guest..

10-08-2008, 11:34 AM
Subscribing to this thread b/c we'll be staying there for the first time in 5 weeks! Someone mentioned the free movie rental - what kind of movies? Blockbuster new releases or strictly Disney?

Also, I was surprised that there were fireworks at DTD - I had thought they had stopped those :confused3 What time were they?

Thanks so much - great thread!

When we were at SSR in April the first day we got no housekeeping. I called the front desk as I am not a DVC member and paid something like $700 (I dare not work out exactly how much my DH will have a heart attack) a night for our 2 bed villa, so I am getting housekeeping!! It was late and I wanted to put my 3 kids to bed so told them not to worry about it, they thought we were DVC yeah right....Someone was in our room and replaced towels so figure that out if you can:) Anyway the next day our room was SPOTLESS the housekeeping manger called 2x to make sure and claimed to have "overseen" the housekeepers herself.

I didn't let it bother me as I know mistakes can happen. We had the best time and will be back in May. :)

Wow! Those were all beautiful photos!

So if you are renting points, how does the trash/towel work? Thanks a bunch!

First DVC resort we bought into, we loved it from the first time we stayed there. The pool area is very nice, not sure about the spa but one day the wife and I will get there, the buses were all pretty good, they have a internal shuttle for getting around that seems to always be around to save on walking if needed, one of the things we loved was the walking to DTD, we could leave the kids with Grandma and head over to have a few drinks while we shopped, especially when buying stuff for the kids for the holidays it is nice to be alone. We love it and i can never understand while it gets a bad rap but to me that just means the buses will not be as crowded, LOL.

10-09-2008, 04:19 PM
Internal shuttle service? I have never heard of that ..that is so cool......

Yen Sid
10-09-2008, 04:21 PM
They have a bus that just goes around the resort, when we came back to the room at nights we would get off at lobby to go to store for things and then sometime we would use internal because after walking all day and now carrying little ones you need a break.
