As another guest I would not be impressed ;)
Would be an opportunity to seek out room service :thumbsup2

Mmm, didn't think so :(
At US hotels I've seen it loads. Never done it.
But I'm trying to think of ways to get breakfast on my one non EMH morning without sacrificing too much of my lay in. I was thinking maybe brrekkie before showering and stuff.
Guess I can shove some clothes on quickly, lol.

I've seen people walk around the DLH in just robes.

I never saw anyone in the morning in PJs or robes but did see lots walking around in robes later in the evenings (obv been to the swimming pool - or I hope!). Tbh if your PJs are like a tracksuit who is going to know?? :lmao:
PS - Was it you who has a prob with milk/dairy? I can't remember who it was? If it was, then we had no probs getting soya milk at breakfast - just used to ask for it and they would bring a carton (new) for us every day :) Some days they left it on the table and others they went to take it away and we just asked them to leave it as I take it in my coffee etc as well as DD1 on her cereal. Well I think what i'll do is jsut throw on jeans and a top and go to breakfast and then go bac to my room and get ready. As i dont want to get all thermals and coat and scarves on for breakfast.

Believe me, at the time we were getting to breakfast, eventhough we'd all been showered and shoeshined (as they say) I still felt rough :lmao:
Torsie - I thought it was you with the milk! Glad I could help - it's always a worry isn't it! Sadly I didn't find any in the actual parks at coffee places :(
PS - A tip - at breakfast they have bottles of mineral water just lying around by the juices. We used to take a big empty bottle of Volvic or whatever and just fill it up (did the same with DD1's water beakers too). No-one batted an eye and it saved us a bit - we did drink a bit out of the fountains in the parks too but preferred to use the mineral water from the hotel.... HTH

Hi, on a similar note...do you think I would look very cheap if I take a few bits and pieces from breakfast to snack on in the parks? I have to say I would have no qualms about doing this normally but DLH is quite posh and I don't want to look like a pleb.;)

95% of people do this. Some people even go to extremes :lmao:

Juliette - believe me no-one will even notice!!! We didn't bother only because we had snacks for DD1 anyway. I think we did take an apple one day (but I'd taken some fruit for her anyway) but tbh we only had one main meal a day mid afternoon after breakfast anyway so didn't need much. The breakfasts are huge - there is loads (I have some pics at risk of sounding a photo maniac lol!). We found there weren't many Brits at all there - mostly Italians and they don't take any cr&p when it comes to stuff! So you will not have any probs at all... It's quite busy at breakfast - not a scrum by any means, so no-one will even notice... just wrap it in a spare napkin if you are a little unsure... HTH

I doubt people will mind.
I can never eat much at breakfast when its that early, so tend to take it to my table and sneak it into my bag. Can't see DLH being any different than SL (although having seen photos its cheese slices! :rotfl: what is with those annoying cubes?
I'm tempted to havre breakfast at like 10am after EMH though when i know i'll be hungry and glad for a hot meal! (we go in Jan)

It used to be slices in all the hotels but apparently people went to the extreme with taking them to make lunches up & the hotels got fed up with it. So they cube the cheese to make it harder

Haha, i love it! I did spend a while chopping the cubes!

I guess you can always cut the cubes into small slices.

I have to admit I have ventured to brekkie in my pj's but to be honest they didn't look like I'd just slept in them, they were my posh pj's which I kind of lounge about in. I just figured they were comfy and practical when having to sort out our little girl and at least if she spilt something on me she wasn't messing up my going to the park clothing.
When we went in June my aunt came with us and when we went for brekkie one morning I said nice pj's to her only to be informed it was her outfit for the day and not pj's at all :goodvibes

Wow Patsy, that breakfast looks great. I will be able to 'acquire' some nice snacks... I showed my DH and it's the first time he's got genuinely excited to be staying at the DLH. When we went to the Santa Fe, my MIL was sticking all sorts of bits and pieces in napkins. It hadn't even occurred to me to do that! I will be doing it this time though, especially with three children who are bound to say they're not hungry until half an hour after breakfast.

What exactly do the people use to put in the breakfast things to make lunch?? do you just hide it in a carrier bag in your handbag or something?
Sorry If I sound so dumb but I knew people did this last year but was too scared to try lol
thelittlemermaid83

People usually wrapped the rolls in a napkin and put them in there bag.

It is not something we have done. I can see the time when through abuse the breakfast will no longer be free and we will copy the American parks by paying for this separately. Or as in Spain where notices are put up telling guests that any food removed will be charged for :)

Man! I love those photos!!!
Jack jsut saw them and is now very excited!
What I did in SL is take a sandwich bag down with me (I always travel with spares for liquids and stuff incase they leak in the case.
As we'll be having late breakfasts at DLH (after EMH) I doubt I'll be sneaking anything out as I should actually be able to eat some food by 10am.
I never, ever take anough to be my lunch or anything. Just the most I managed at breakfast any morning was half a youghurt and a glass of water, so I jsut took two rolls and put some ham and cheese in them and then ate them at about 10am in the parks. So it really was my breakfast.

this is what I am thinking to take them for as my 9 year od needs to be up and about for 2 hours before he can eat anything, thats like me too, I cant eat as soon as I get up, normally after Ive walked the dogs I then fancy something :)
So I wouldnt actually be stealing, it would just be saving what I would have normally had in my included breakfast :)
torsie24
10-08-2008, 06:42 AM
Exactly my thoughts too! Even after my 'stealing' I still only ate a yoghurt (or half!) and two rolls.
One day I took a rolls and a croissant, but I wouldn't suggest it as they dont trave well! Very squashed! Tried to eat it in te orbitron queue, lots of flakes!

I can't eat breakfast really early, which is why i'll prob take the odd roll etc with me so i can nibble on it later in the park.

I'm like a lot of you in that I can't face breakfast first thing in the morning. I would eat very little - in fact my breakfast at home consists of a cup of tea. I was thinking of taking a croissant, yoghurt and an apple...not packing a hamper.:rotfl:

I agree - I managed (had my arm twisted 'not' - to have a cooked breakfast and a little 'sweet' bit too - I'm breastfeeding so that's my excuse lol!). But I know it can be hard to eat breakfast so early. I don't think the odd roll and bit of cheese or meat is going to harm but like Reid says I suppose if people start filling picnic hampers lol! I think we only took an apple one day and the water (lol) and that was it really... I also think that if you have little ones it's a good opportunity to get some fresh fruit for later for them (not so easy to come by in the park so for some it's your only chance!!). As I said, I took my own fruit with me in my case as I wasn't sure what to expect and we made her have a banana every day with her breakfast while there so she did get some :)
My Mum was so bemused with the soft boiled eggs - she had one every day and every time it was perfectly cooked - she hates that white runny bit when it's not quite cooked but they were perfect white with yolk! Not sure how they managed :rolleyes1
Sorry the 'hot' pic isn't great - the lights were orangey - suppose to keep it warm and I couldn't get in amongst the gannets properly to get the angle :lmao:
PS - Not being funny but I've stayed in some nice hotels and I think the only better breakfast I've had was in Sri Lanka where the chef was there actually cooking things to order for you - eggs, waffles, pancakes - you name it - it was heaven :lovestruc So it really is a nice start to the day :)

in Hotel New yok last year the breakfast came with hot option aswell, like in your photo, eggs bacon etc... is this the same for in the Sequioa lodge??? or was it because HNY was 4 *???
PJackson
10-08-2008, 02:21 PM
Not sure Melody as I've never stayed there - hopefully someone else can help on that one?? I've heard the breakfasts are good at the HNY too and you don't have to book a slot like you do at the other hotels (I believe?)...
torsie24
10-08-2008, 02:24 PM
Only HNY and DLH have hot breakfasts in the buffet.
At SL and NPB you can have a hot breakfast for 6E :)

Hi Patsy, yes that's a good point about breast-feeding - I'm doing that too so will need to keep my calorie intake high...;) I'm with you - taking a bit of fruit is ok, especially as it's not easy to come by. Some people do take things too far and spoil it for others but I don't see any harm in taking a little, especially if you are the last sitting as presumably anything left over will be thrown away!

Does DLH have tea and coffee stuff? I'd be tempted to take a thermos and make up tea to take into the park to keep me warm....
