Hey all! here is our new home.
DDA originally stood for Disney Design Addicts as most of the posters were addicted to making t-shirt designs. Those designers are still here and many many more people have joined our friendly community. We think that DDA still fits whether you be a Disney Design Addict, Dear Disney Addict, Disney Dream-aholics, Disney Dream Addicts or whatever other acronymn you'd like to throw in there.
Welcome to all the returning posters and welcome to any newcomers that might like to chat about design and all things Disney.
Copied from Deb because she worded it so well.

Have I ever mentioned that I am afraid of the number 13? :scared:
I don't ever sit in the 13th row, I won't fly on the 13th of any month, I won't put the radio in the car on volume 13 (12 or 14, never 13), I avoid that number whenever possible.
So, chop chop, DDAers! Let's get through these 250 pages quickly!

I don't like the #13 either (which is actually kind of funny that my anniversary is the 13th) but I thought if I jumped to 14 we'd have confused DDA'ers.

I seem to have caught another cold  Colby has it too. I really hope that this passes quickly, if it's not gone by the end of the week I will be visiting my doctor as I don't want to be sick on vacation.
I got my work schedule this morning and I have 5 nights this week. That's great for my pocketbook, but not so great for getting things accomplished. I guess I may have to make better use of my mornings. I have to get my camper cleaned out and winterized this week. We are having frost at night and I don't want my pipes to freeze out there.
That will leave next week for pulling my house together. It's got to be 100% when we leave as I hate coming home to a messy house. Thankfully I will not be working next Thursday or Friday night as we have other little commitments. That will give me extra time before the trip :thumbsup2
It sounds like you have a good plan. I hope you and Colby both get some rest and feel better.
Hi, all! Sorry I haven't been around. Life's been busy, and I'm in a funk that I don't want to spread around. I don't have a reason for it, so it must just be the time of year, TOM (sorry, Tom, not you!), and yucky weather all rolled together.
:grouphug: for the funk. Mine lifted pretty quickly after I posted about it. I hope yours does too.
I shop all year long for Christmas and Birthdays. So I need to go get everything out and figure out what I have for the girls for Virginias Birthday and Christmas. Plus try to give my Mom and FIL some ideas for her Birthday.
But I woke up with another silly sinus Headache. at least the Z pack helped my throat and ear pain
Feel better!
Marci - boy you were busy. Congrats on getting so much accomplished. I've found a great play to donate all of our old toys. The kids' daycare! They'll use the stuff in the younger kids' rooms.
You know, I am donating the kids' books to the library in our new church, as well as some fisher price toys. I can't take them yet because we have no room right now, but the new building should be ready in a couple of months. I used to donate to the daycare, but since we don't go anymore I've had to find other outlets. (Their library was probably 75% made up of donated books by me and my boss.) Most of the stuff going to the help center is not stuff to trash, but not things I think the Church or friends would want/need.
I did venture up the stairs last night to look at the playroom... but almost hyperventilated and came back down. I have no idea how to start. :confused3 I think I am too emotionally tied to a lot of their toys. :rotfl: I may need an intervention and help from my SIL.
Deb hope you & Colby feel better soon :wizard:
Jennifer hope your headache goes away quickly :wizard:
Beth I hope you get out of your funk soon
Marci sounds like you had a productive & busy weekend! Glad the boys had fun camping.
Glynis homemade jelly sounds so good! I missed the loving to cook/bake gene when I was born. I sure didn't miss the loving to eat gene though :rotfl:
About 2 weeks ago my gum on the lower left started bothering me. I thought maybe it was just irritated & would go away. Nope not gonna happen  My jaw is now very tender to the touch & my gum has a bump on it, I am sure I have an infection. So I get to see the Dentist this afternoon. Luckily I have not had any pain & if I am lucky I will not come home with one less tooth.
Oh no -- I hope you feel better ASAP!
Marci & Deb - You got a lot done this weekend! And I know you will both finish your tasks in time!
Deb - Hope you feel better, again!
Beth - Be GONE, funk! You have had this for a while so I hope it leaves you soon.
Janet - Ouch on the tooth. I hope it is an easy fix.
Glynis - Home made jelly sounds yummy. I used to make home made currant jelly with my Mom.
Elizabeth - Vacation hangover... so THAT'S what I have!!
Tammi - I bought two adorable wristlet purses at CIS Sportswear when she was having her sidewalk sale. They will act as the girls' stockings this year. Anything we give them will have to fit in those little purses! I am thinking iTunes cards and things like that. Or fun jewelry. But that is the extent of Christmas shopping I have to do other then for my siblings and their families. I have NO idea what to get them yet.
The wristlets are such a cute idea! I'm mostly finished for Christmas. We need to come up with something for Dad, Patty (his girlfriend), my 3 nephews and one of my nieces, my boss Merrie, and my boys. I already know a few things the boys want -- I just need to find them and put them away. I'm still waiting on ideas from my SIL and sister for niece and nephews. I've already done my siblings, Randy's siblings, their kids, my work, but I need to keep going.
Dallas will have Partners Card soon, so I might get a lot more done then. I think I've talked about it before. It's a card you can buy for $60 (benefits the Family Place) and all the vendors listed will give you 20% off of your purchase. My work buys it because a stop at one store (container store for wrapping paper for all the client gifts) will pay for it. It IS only fitting that I get the card since I do the shopping. ;)
Okay -- back to work. If you see me on here tonight, ENCOURAGE me to get my tush up to the playroom. :)

Ho-hum. Almost time to go get Princess. I guess she didn't terrorize them too much, because they didn't call me to come get her! :rotfl2:
Sounds like the mailman is here. Sounds like the entire TRUCK was for my bosses! How much stuff is he going to cram through the slot? Ah, doorbell! Even MORE stuff on the porch! It seems that Dadboss put a stop on their mail while they were gone, so this is all of it.
I bought a computer keyboard at Target this morning for $5. DS has a hard time with our computer because all of the letters have scratched off the keyboard. Stupid Gateway keyboard. :headache: They just sort of painted the letters on there. They scraped off before the computer was 6 months old, but since we didn't buy any sort of extra warranty Best Buy said it was my problem, not theirs. Hopefully this $5 thing will be compatible!

I am hoping that trick or treat will be on Halloween day this year, as it falls on a Friday. For some stupid reason they always have it before the actual day and during the day, not at night.
Of course there is a curfew on all Hallows Eve, and if anyone under 18 is caught out the parents are fined.

we are going to my cousins and trick or treat with her girls, my Brother and nephew as well as my mom will go with us and possibly another cousin and his kids( 3 girls and 1 boy). Then we are having a halloween ball after for the girls. Just some games for the kids and healthy snacks us adults are going to dress as Disney princess and princes. Got to figure out mine and Jeffs costumes.

Diva was fussing about their Homecoming.
First of all, Homecoming in FL wasn't a big deal.
Homecoming in TX is a HUGE, and I mean HUGE deal. The girls get these silk mums the size of dinner plates and hang all sorts of plastic charms and crap from the ribbons that hang down from the flower. I think it is a strictly TX thing. The bigger and tackier, the better.
Well, Diva was determined to teach those kids in Kansas how to do a "proper" Homecoming, but they weren't interested, didn't want to listen to her, and wouldn't work as a team to put her ideas into action. Remember, she is an outsider. Her ideas are seen as being very foreign, and she herself comes across as very snobby. Despite never going to high school in TX she considers herself quite the authority on how it should be done. NO WONDER the kids don't want to have a TX-style Homecoming in KS. It isn't their thing. Homecoming is simply not a big deal to them.
The game was Friday. Mom said the opposing team vandalized the stadium (really vandalized, with spray paint) as well as spreading bird seed all over the bleachers so there was bird poo everywhere.
The dance had no refreshments, no decorations, and very poor attendance because the school administrators have prohibited "grinding" on the dance floor. It sounds to me like these kids don't CARE about Homecoming, and the school shouldn't fork out a bunch of money for an event that has no student interest!
Diva, true to form, wore a big obnoxious mum that Ms. Selfish sent her. (Ms. Selfish cried at high school graduation because she wanted to stay in high school forever and ever. She makes a terrible grown-up, but high school was precisely her thing.) Way to call attention to yourself, and not in a good way. :rolleyes1
She is big on blaming everyone else right now for anything she does. I know when she is telling the truth or fibbing so I just keep on her til she breaks.
I remember that stage. Some of the kids are bigger liars than others. The one who cut off his hair stole a Barbie from a classmate and painted the doll with blue paint. Then he lied about doing it. His teacher was not amused. I asked her if he said "I did nothing!" because that was a guaranteed seal of guilt. That's exactly what he had said to her. :rotfl2:
So what is everyone doing for Halloween?
Nothing. DS is too old to trick-or-treat. Last year we were supposed to go to the neighborhood thing with my ExBosses but due to an e-mail snafu we ended up not going. If Princess trick-or-treats DS might want to walk around with her, or he might want to hand out candy. Princess is REALLY scared of costumes, though, so she may end up staying home herself! Guess we'll see!

:grouphug: for the funk. Mine lifted pretty quickly after I posted about it. I hope yours does too.
Thanks for the well-wishes to you and everyone who did on the previous thread! I hadn't thought about it until Elin mentioned it, but I think I have been in a bit of a funk for a while. It started as post-Disney depression and hasn't ever completely left. Time to find something to get myself occupied. I think I need to follow your lead and get this house de-cluttered.
I have the same emotional attachments to too many things around here. My friend could help with an intervention, but I'm too embarrassed to actually have anyone see how bad this place has become.

I haven't thought about this year. In the past we have done pencils, play dough, candy, gummi bears. It's different every year.
we would open the door when I was a teenager, but we has maybe 10 or so come by. the first 2 yrs I lived in my house I had no trick or treaters. I probaply wont leave any candy out as we have cats, rabbits, and deers that walk thru our yard so not sure if they would try to eat the candy or not.

There are a couple of different threads on the CB, about Halloween.
One asks do you open your door to trick or treaters? Of course I do, I love seeing the costumes, especially the ones that make them. Also people did if for me when I was young, so I do it now that I am the adult.
Do they mean give out treats or actually open the door? We take the screen out of our storm door and hand the treats through that. That way we don't have to worry about knocking kids off the porch or the cats escaping. I don't even mind giving things to the older kids as long as they are respectful. I know that irritates a lot of people, but if they make an attempt to dress up and are pleasant, I have no problem handing them a little candy. At least they aren't out causing problems.

Because it was a GREAT game!
Hi, all! Sorry I haven't been around. Life's been busy, and I'm in a funk that I don't want to spread around. I don't have a reason for it, so it must just be the time of year, TOM (sorry, Tom, not you!), and yucky weather all rolled together.
 I hope your funk passes soon!
You early shoppers make me look pitiful. I bought my first Christmas present yesterday. I got Alyssa We Cheer for the Wii. It comes with little pompoms that attach to the controls. She'll love it!
That sounds absolutely adorable!
Luckily I have not had any pain & if I am lucky I will not come home with one less tooth.

good luck on the decluttering. I think part of it might be that your oldest is a senior in high school.

DS was running around with the Party City ad yesterday talking about all the costumes. The thing is, he doesn't have anywhere to GO in a costume. I am a mean mom - I told him we aren't getting a costume.
We went out to Party City, because he saw the ad over the weekend and wanted the Darth Vader costume. Then he decided he didn't want to be Vader after all and didn't like anything else at Party City. So we went next door to Toys R Us. Nope. Then we hit K-Mart on the way home, and he liked a skeleton pirate. No more cute costumes here.
Matthew and Laura have a party to go to for the Cross Country team. I think a bunch of them are going as "Legends of the Hidden Temple" kids. If we can get all the stuff pulled together. The problem is that someone else is in charge of it, so who knows if it will be done right (or at all).

They fit great, but of course the are the same style that I already have, but just in all white. I buy Skechers, this last pair right from the website. www.skechers.com they are having 20% off $50 or more, and I got free shipping because I joined the mailing list.
They have for wide feet, just not a very big selection.

On Halloween we will probably stay in and watch movies. As for trick or treaters...as long as they are respectful we will give to all. Though I do turn off our porch light at 9....because seriously...that's somebody's bedtime.
Cassidy is going to be Meg (from Hercules) and there is talk that they will get to wear their costumes to the football game the night before.
Abi has never been into trick or treating so I think she's relieved she's too old to dress up for halloween.
9:00 is lights out here, too!

Having someone see it might just be what you need to get you the motivation to help you get moving. That is what it finally took for me. I was also embarassed to have anyone see it. If they are really a true friend, then it won't matter.

Over the weekend we heard about a 12-year-old boy who was killed in a car crash. Turns out he went to DS's school. :sad2:
He was in a car with 2 teenagers, not wearing a seatbelt, going 70-80 mph. down a street (NOT on the highway). They crashed into another car. This happened late Saturday night - as in, late enough that a 12-year-old had no business being out. Sad. He was the only fatality.

DS says the name sounds familiar, but he doesn't think he knew the boy. The note from the school says he was in 6th grade, so unless he went to the same elementary as DS they probably didn't know each other.
None of the kids at my school died when we were in middle school, but several of them died in high school. One in a car accident, one was a suicide, and one (one of my dear friends) died in a scuba accident. Those were kids I went to middle school with, but I moved before we got to high school.
A couple from my high school were killed my senior year. They were driving around handing out wedding invitations, in broad daylight if I remember correctly. I didn't know either one of them, but I went to the funeral out of respect for their families.

Robyn - I feel your pain, both my girls decided to give themselves haircuts. Mo's came out pretty well after it was repaired, the rest will grow back.
Tom - The skirts are fabulous, you're so generous.
Heidi - We have a tradition here for Halloween, I make a big pot of chili and everyone meets her for trick or treat. One of my friends comes over and we sit out front and pass out candy, we usually get around 200 kids so I have a big witch pot that I fill each year.
Elizabeth - I remember the big Homecoming mums, we haven't had them her in years though.
Beth - I hope your funk lifts soon, mine is still lingering but today's new helped. Not only is it a girl but everything looks great.

I'll have to ask DS what the difference is when he gets out of the shower.
TMI time. ;)
All of a sudden DS has this strange odor, like the seasoning packet that comes in tacos. He only smells like that when he comes home from school. He claims to have no knowledge of why he smells like that. We are going to start putting deodorant on him and see if that helps. Thing is, I don't think it is his armpits that smell. The first day I noticed it I was leaning over him to look at his homework, and it was his neck that smelled funny. We haven't had tacos in months, so it isn't like the smell is coming out of his sweat glands. Anybody know of anything that would make him smell like that?

So I thought you were not chatty today. Until I realized the thread ended.
I have a vacation hangover and have been home a month.;)
When are you talking about doing WDW in 2010 for Food and Wine Festival?
Robyn- I think it may be time to hide all the scissors.:thumbsup2 I also think it is time for a nice short, cute cut.
Heidi- Perhaps you would get Trick or treaters, if there was no guard shack or person with a gun at said shack.;)
I have seen ornaments at Target and Walmart.
I do not get Trick or treaters. Although there are a few new kids in the neighborhood, so we may have some this year. I always make nice bags with hot chocolate packs, a juice box, bag of microwave popcorn and some candy for the twins and their brother even though they do not trick or treat.
So in 2010, I would like to spend about a month and a half on the Magic so I can visit all the ports in Europe. I will probably just end up doing the Western Transatlantic repo cruise.
jackskellingtonsgirl
10-06-2008, 06:21 PM
Anne Marie - DS doesn't know the difference, either. He THINKS Rock Band has drums. If it is the one my cousin has then it has a microphone and you have to coordinate the vocals with the instruments. I think it calls for more research.
Robyn - Princess has that little Suri Cruise haircut, so she has shorter hair than Molly. I think Mo's hair is cute, considering she nearly had a mullet! :lmao:

For those of you that have done a cruise. What item did you forget and wish you hadn't? I'm compiling a list of things that I still need to pack and want to make sure that I don't forget anything. Of course I am pack light, which means selectively, but I don't want to forget anything important either. Lots of lists have binoculars, but I really don't know that we'd use them :confused3
Help...
Didn't forget it, but an over the door hanger to put drugs and toiletries in. Or a power strip if you have a laptop and multiple chargers to plug things in, as most ships do not have many outlets.
I wouldn't take the binoculars. I contemplated taking them this cruise and did not. I saw dolphins, sea lions, rays, turtles without them.
I would take the video camera. You could take it for short periods of time and return it to your room.
Elizabeth- Perhaps you need to host a Halloween party so DS can have a costume.:thumbsup2 Or perhaps he will have to play at a football game at Halloween in a costume. Or perform in a Halloween Parade in a costume.

Since today marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Susan Love was on the Today Show to discuss her new initiative – the million women army. During her interview, she discussed how frustrated she was with the scientists and doctors doing breast cancer research because they’ve always told her that it’s so hard for them to find healthy women to participate in studies. She took matters into her own hands, and decided to create a million women army of volunteers. Her hope is to get a million women signed up to participate in breast cancer research.
By signing up, you will receive emails when they are looking for people who meet your specific demographics. As they explained it on the Today Show, the help they may ask for is a urine sample, tissue sample, blood sample, or simply your family history and experiences with breast cancer. When you receive an email, it is up to you whether or not you RSVP to help with the study.
I signed up this morning. Check out the website and see what you think! http://www.armyofwomen.org/

That is such a smart idea, Beth! :thumbsup2

I'm dressing up as the Great Pumpkin to hand out treats. Alan doesn't have to work that day, so he gets to take the twins trick or treating. Katie and Jacob will go off with their friends. They get to go around the circle we live on and then Alan will take them to their cousins house, and some other places. It's always busy around here. Tons of kids. So I got this in my email. I thought it might bring you a few laughs.
With all the turmoil in the market today and the collapse of Lehman Bros and Acquisition of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America this might be some good advice. For all of you with any money left, be aware of the next expected mergers so that you can get in on the ground floor and make some BIG bucks.
Watch for these consolidations later this year:
1.) Hale Business Systems, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Fuller Brush, and W R. Grace Co. Will merge and become: Hale, Mary, Fuller, Grace.
2.) Polygram Records, Warner Bros., and Zesta Crackers join forces and become: Poly, Warner Cracker.
3.) 3M will merge with Goodyear and become: MMMGood.
4. Zippo Manufacturing, Audi Motors, Dofasco, and Dakota Mining will merge and become: ZipAudiDoDa.
5. FedEx is expected to join its competitor, UPS, and become: FedUP.
6. Fairchild Electronics and Honeywell Computers will become: Fairwell Honeychild.
7. Grey Poupon and Docker Pants are expected to become: PouponPants.
8. Knotts Berry Farm and the National Organization of Women will become: Knott NOW!
And finally...
9. Victoria 's Secret and Smith & Wesson will merge under the new name: **********BangBang

That is the time frame I want to be in Florida for homecoming. The game is on the 7th. Although I could probably fill all my time up with those activities. But I would love to get to the food and wine festival.
If I do not go to that. I may go to the UCF game at Marshall the next weekend. Although I may decide to save my money for something later.
I would really love to do this cruise (http://cruise.com/cs/forms/cruiseresultsPage.aspx?CD=1&DF=11/1/2008&CL=0|0&CV=-1&ships=-1&ports=9513&sort=10&SN=false&MT=false&ZP1=-1&ZP2=-1&PC=&Phone=&Home=&EO=false&Ref=BS&PIN=&LID=&look=&template=&AG=1&ADV=Y&PSL=Y&logo=Y&branch=&GroupOnly=false). But I do not want to borrow all my vacation time for next year.
Then again I have a book here called 500 places to take your kids before they grow up. It has places all over the world. I would love to visit lots of them.

Thanks for all the Congrats, we're pretty excited.
Deb - I always take an extension cord with me on a cruise, most only have one plug in, I also take the over the door shoe holder to hold all our toiletries, I take the removable 3m hooks and actually hang it on the wall, space is definitely a premium and it's really handy to have everything right there where you can just grab it.
I also take a small fold up cooler in my luggage for bottled water and soft drinks and our room steward keeps it iced down. We carry on a case of water and a 12 pack of soda.
I have a problem with motion sickness so I start taking ginger and bonine the day before we leave, so far so good, and one night on one of our cruises it got so rough that they actually taped b bags in the elevators and halls.

Yes, it's short but not near as bad as I thought it'd be. The funniest thing was she asked me to put it in a bun for ballet. Nope, not gonna happen. Then Eric told her she looked like a boy and she cried and cried.
My niece did this exact thing when she was 3. She was trying to cut a tag out of her shirt and got her hair, too. At first she tried to tape it back on, but when that didn't work, she hid it under her bed. When her dad saw her he lost his temper and yelled and yelled. He told her she wasn't cute anymore, and looked like a boy! He really lost it! It just devastated Marina. My sister called me and I came and got Marina and took her to a beauty shop. She was given a wedge cut, and it looked darling. She took one look at herself and started to cry again. "I don't look like a boy," she told me.
Her dad was so apologetic and sorry. He just snapped. My sister kept telling him, it's just hair, it'll grow.
Another niece has done this at least 5 times before she started kindergarten. Her parents told her that as soon as her hair touched her shoulders, she could get her ears pierced. She left her hair alone, got her ears pierced and promptly cut her hair again!
