...all 21K at the Scotia Bank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sept. 28, 2008.
I completed the HALF. Killer between 14K - 18K but then I pulled it off. Actually at 20K I was almost euphoric, feeling the excitement then I turned the corner and the last 1K was UP HILL. Well an incline anyway.
Celebrating over that finish line was pure joy though!!!!!
I'd never done more than 10K in my long runs so needless to say I was pleased.
I am training for Disney in Jan 2009. A little scared by what I still have to accomplish. My legs are still sore. I did a dance class on Monday night then a light run/walk on Tuesday. I think I pushed it too much so backed off. According to my training schedule I should be doing a 26K this weekend. Uh, no way.
I'm a little freaked by the long run distances I have to get under my belt in the little time I have until Disney but I'm still plugging along.

Congrats!! I didn't know you were there! I met up with Hockeychic just before we queued in the corrals.
I ran into problems somewhere around the 14K mark with my knee so I ended up walking for a while. I loved running up Bay Street though! The crowds there were so energetic!! Did you see the runners dressed as Elvis and Spiderman?
I'm still recovering too ... My knee is still not 100% but I'm hoping it will be okay in a couple of weeks. I signed up for the Toronto Marathon 5K on Friday. :goodvibes

I'm west of TO in Georgetown.
My friend ran with me. He came up from Boston. Our familes are going to Disney together while he and I run the FULL!!! Which is still kinda freakin' me out.
I tried a light run/walk on Tuesday. Big mistake. Needed more time to recover. I haven't attempted a run since. I will NEED to do something tomorrow.
I did see Elvis a few times. I wish I could have enjoyed the finish chute more. I was so darn freaked going up that incline at the end for a whole km that I thought I wouldn't make it.
I hope to enjoy Disney more but worried about my time.

I agree, DH and I drove to the start/finish of the race after packet pick up Friday night and that was my first thought....wow that is up hill isn't it???
Honestly however, I didn't even notice it, I was so exhausted by that time I just kept my head down and didn't even look up until I heard Beth call out to me near the finish line.... thanks Beth:hug: just what I needed to get over the finish line!!!!
I am terrified of the full but I am going to give it all I have.
Have you been to any of the disney events before?? I was surprised at how many Canadians participated and where in the cheer teams it was great to hear the cheers.
Hope to get to meet you there!!!

princess aurora & Hockeychic - you ladies are going to do just fine at the marathon. I was in the same position last year. Just keep up the training ( and yes, you can do it!) and you'll conquer the Mickey with flying colors!
pa - congrats on your first half. Way to go!!!!

I have not been to a Disney event before. I thought how perfect for my 1st full. So glad I got a Half event under my belt. Disney would have been so much more intimidating I think if I didn't know anything ahead of time (like pottie line-ups).

Disney events are so much fun....lots of WISHers and cheer squads out on the course. Alot more bands, etc then at Scotia. Then of course there is the characters.

The funny thing is I thought there was more of a potta pottie line up at beginning at Disney and less of one at Scotia. But the line ups on course were crazy - I'm not sure if you or Kim had this problem but when I went by the porta potties, there were 5-7 runners lined up at each stop. I felt like there were the same number of porta potties at the Minnie but of course there were fewer runners.
The thing I like about Disney is that if you can make it into the parks, you can use the flush toilets :)

At Scotia I thought the line-ups on course were a lot. Lots of people and why did they take so long? How long does it take to pee. :confused3 My one and only pee stop took well over 5 minutes. Kind of annoying.
Maybe some Disney magic ...and I will not need to pee :wizard:

I think they must have been in there for something else. I know some people can get upset stomachs either from the something they ate on course or nerves.
I wanted to stop but figured the next stop would be better. It never happened... I saw a couple of ladies duck into the bushes around the CNE. Made me wish I was running with someone else. :rotfl:

Good thing is it is still really dark when the race starts and there are alot of bushes around....I get really nervous at the beginning of the race but for Scotia I didn't have to "go" during the race so I was lucky and DH only went once and he ran into a bush.
However, I think at disney, since we partook in a few beverages over the few days before the race I had to "go" alot just glad there are lots of bushes.....Hey Pocahontas did it right:lmao: :rotfl:

Hey we might have been running right beside each other :rotfl:
Kim - Didn't think of the bright WISH shirts... Maybe I should just stick with the WISH visor :cutie: Either that or the WISH princesses need to buddy up!
