I was hoping to get some help. I want to copy a WW chai smoothie mix and have only found recipes for copycat Chai tea recipes. The smoothie mix is good hot but does not have any tea in it. I have found several with instant tea and know that I could probably convert one to be similar. The problem I have is all of the non dairy creamer in the recipes I have found. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions so that I could add more powdered milk and avoid some of the non dairy stuff.

Thank you in advance for your help.
A sample of the recipes I have found:

Chai Tea

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:

1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
2 cups powdered non-dairy creamer
2 tsp. vanilla powder
2-1/2 cups sugar
1-1/2 cups unsweetened instant tea
2 tsp. ground ginger
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground cardamom Preparation:
In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly. In a blender or food processor bowl, place 1 cup at a time, and process until mixture is blended and the particles are fine.
Add 2 heaping serving tablespoons Chai tea mixture to a mug of boiling water and stir to mix well.
*If you can't find vanilla powder, mix 2 tsp. vanilla extract with some of the sugar until blended and dry. Then process with remaining ingredients in blender or food processor.

To be honest, I never use cream - I just use 2% milk instead of skim. If there's a consistency issue, then I might add a bit of Wondra flour to thicken it.

In this recipe, though, I can't imagine the non-dairy creamer is doing anything for the final consistency...it's probably there more for the fat. I'd just replace it with milk powder if it were me.

Oh - and here's a link to a similar question someone asked. It might give you some info: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf79975555.tip.html

I've never heard of vanilla powder. Where do you get that? In a specialty store?

Thank you for the link Piratesmate, I will try more powdered milk. I don;t like all of those additives in the non dairy so this is perfect.

We don't have the powdered vanilla in our stores. :( I asked tonight.

Nancyg56 - Did you see the tip about putting a vanilla bean in a jar with the powdered milk? That sounded like a good idea to add flavor to it. :thumbsup2

THe vanilla bean sounds really good. One of the recipes I found had Vanilla creamer in addition to the regular creamer, I need to adjust that!
