Please....

I just got a weird run around from calling Disney. We want to celebrate our 25th anniversary either by doing a VR ceremony or doing a Celebration Wishes Cruise. So I'm starting to gather the information now since I still have time. I called Disney about the boat rentals and was told they have 2 size pontoons for rent and I can call private dining of the resort marina we are leaving from. I got the information on the cruises, and asked the CM for the private dining number at GF, since we WERE thinking of leaving from there. She told me when I call at 90 days out to book the cruise she'll give me the number then! I reassured her we were staying at BWV as DVC members, and she still wouldn't give me the private dining number. So...I called back, got someone else, got the number.

Called private dining at GF to ask about cake for the pontoon wishes cruise. Specifically asked if I could have a mad hatter 2 tier cake. She said I could beginning at $500!, :scared1: but she'd be leary of a 2 tier on a pontoon, the table is a carried on plastic table, not a permanent table and she wouldn't want the occasion ruined if it hit the floor  - that I should do the Grand 1 yacht. I said okay, and told her I'd call back the boat number to see about getting the yacht. I said, "ok, if I have the yacht would you be comfortable doing the mad hatter cake", her answer was yes. Then I asked if I went with a one tier cake could she do the one with the mickey "stamps" on it and a mickey and minnie bride/groom cake topper. She said she didn't know what I was referring to.  I said do you have pictures of the cakes you do for a small party, or pics of cake toppers, she said no. I said IF I buy the mickey minnie bride/groom topper can she put it on the cake? She said I could put it on the cake the day of??????? What the heck????:headache:
GF has never done a one tier specialty cake with this topper??? She told me they don't do toppers? But I've have seen pictures of them I told her, from Disney Brides or VR ceremonies. She said she doesn't have any pictures or any website showing pictures, but she would do a one tier cake with mickey stamps on it. Then she said it would be too small for 6 people!!!:headache: :headache:

Okay, now I'm starting to boil over. So I decided she didn't understand a word I was saying and just plain and simple asked her what she'd recommend. She said "well, we could do a 10 inch:confused3 ". couldn't she say this in the first place???? She said she could be alittle creative with that.

Okay, needless to say, I won't be using GF :rolleyes1

Anyway, I called back the boat number, they said the yacht doesn't do the fireworks show. Okay......she said I could use the 25 foot pontoon with the music from wishes piped in:idea: . Now we're talking. I want that boat, I say, but GF private dining just told me it was too small for the cake, champagne, flutes, strawberries. I asked her if she knew if people took out these "celebration" boats and actually had such food on them, she said "yes, all the time":cheer2: :cheer2: .

So, I will rent this boat (if we don't do a VR ceremony and just go with the anniversary cruise), and I will have private dining NOT from GF do the cake, etc.

But...what I need are ideas for the best one tier cake with topper I can get. Anyone care to post pics, or ideas for this. Whew I'm exhausted!

Thanks for listening.

Whoa - you got a whole lot of misinformation there! Where to start....

First of all, the Grand 1 yacht DOES do the Wishes fireworks show - many brides here have booked it as a special ending to their wedding day.

Second, the cake you want with the stamps on it is called Mickey's Delight, and the GF makes it all the time for birthdays/anniversaries. And it will most certainly serve 6 people, since the smallest size they make is 6 inches. I have never seen them put a topper on it other than the white chocolate castle topper, which they'll sell you for $100+. Is it a big deal to just bring your own and stick it on when you get there?

Also - have you checked out the birthday/anniversary cake thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1859670)on the restaurants board? You'll see many pictures of the Mickey's Delight and other Grand Floridian cakes there.

Unfortunately, you will have to work with GF private dining to get a cake delivered for a Wishes Cruise. The only alternative is to bring your own, but only BoardWalk Bakery allows walk-ups. I guess you could order the cake to be delivered to a restaurant and then bring it to the boat yourself.

Hope this helps a bit - the people on the cake thread I linked to can give you their personal experiences of working with the GF on custom cakes...

Thanks for the info lurkyloo!

DH and I will be in the similar situation as DeeCee in June '09 when we celebrate our 25th anniversary:love:

As a test run we have a Wishes Fireworks Cruise leaving from the GF on Christmas Day. I want to do champagne for DH and me, hot chocolate for DD who will turn 16 in November and some Christmas cookies or the like. I dread calling private dining at the GF because it sounds like they are so disorganized:sad2:

THANKS for the info. I have t say I'm alittle ticked off. I mean I spoke directly with Linda, who is in charge of all this. I can't imagine she never put a cake topper on a cake for anyone (I will of course do it myself). When you say she'll sell the white chocolate castle to me fr $100+ do you mean the entire cake, or just the castle, plus cost of the cake?

I did check out the cake board, before I thought of this, and now I'm going back to it....;)

The castle alone is $100 plus the cost of the cake. When we took out the Grand One for our dating anniversary last Oct we ordered a 10inch cake. I think the total cost was about $230. They had a banner on the yacht for us as well and champagne.

We worked through the concierge at the Wilderness Lodge to set it up but I have worked with Linda before for a dining event at the GF and I had the same results as you... I didn't even know if our event was going to go on until about 2 days before but in the end she came through and it was perfect.
