View Full Version : Using 7 month window at Boardwalk

We recently took a trip to Vero with no intention of joining. (We had been thinking about it for 7 years but were always apprehensive.) We ended up falling in love with Vero and joining DVC. My question is whether or not we will have difficulty booking at the Boardwalk since our home resort is Vero. We usually visit WDW two times per year,in Oct. and May. Will we be able to book at the Boardwalk during those times having only a 7 month window?

I haven't tried Oct or May but we had no problem booking BWV and OKW for July/August with our VB points.

We own at OKW but always stay at BW using the 7 month window. I don't expect this to always be the case but so far, so good!

While I'm definitely one of the "buy where you plan to stay the most" cheerleaders, I do think that May and Oct. are a couple of the months where you may have a decent shot at getting a BWV room. You have to be fairly flexible though. I wouldn't expect to get a standard view "anything" every year, but you may luck out and get a preferred view. November and Early December and all holiday periods would be extremely tough to get at 7 months though. November and early December are tough to get at the 10 month window for 2001. If you don't get what you want right away, get on a wait list and make back-up ressie somewhere else. That seems to work for lots of people. Good luck!!

I made reservations in Jan. for end of July. I booked two standard view studios and I had to be waited for one. It came through two weeks later. According to info on this board it seems the issue of 7 month window will be more of an issue down the road when BCV are built. Most members and sales representative recommend buying where you plan to stay most often.
If you are flexilble on your dates you might not have a problem. We are going to a conference in May and own at OKW. We needed certain dates for the third week of May. We are still on the waitlist for BWV. But there were openings at OKW and VWL. If there are no openings at BWV at the 7-months you could make reservations at OKW (if available) and waitlist for BWV.

Being a BWV owner, I made a ressie for Presidents week 1 br preferred with 2 months advance notice. Obviously it was spur of the moment but had no problem.

I'm just guessing since I don't have access to DVC's reservation records, but I think Pluto's experience may be the way most people get non-home resort reservations. At 11 and 7 months people call and book the resorts. In the 3-4 month period that follows many of them have to make changes and adjustments. That's when rooms once again become available. Once a reservation is made it's not carved in stone but may become available to one or two other members before anyone actually uses it. I have had emergencies where I needed to cancel holiday reservations or reservations coming up within a week or two. There was some lucky person who snagged what seemed hopeless.

Don't know about booking Oct or May at BWV, but we booked Sep and Jan well within the 7 month window with minimal or no problems. If you are flexible and don't stay at WDW at the busiest time of the year, the 7 month window shouldn't be a problem. By the way: VERO BEACH RULES!!!!!

We booked a 2BR at BWV for a late August stay in 2000 at the 7 month window. There were only 3 2BR units left and they all had preferred view. That is our one and only experience of booking outside our home resort (OKW).

We own at BWV and I tried to get a sv studio at BW yeaterday for ANY full week in Oct. and none were available. Have had problems with every reservation we have made there since owning a little over a year ago. Always ended up with what we want after LOTS of effort. It just seems like it should be easier than this. I hope once BCVs open up some of this goes away. We bought at BWV because that's where we wanted to spend most of our time but every time the 7 month window draws I panic to call and see what's left. The other bad thing is trying to co-ordinate air travel. One day they are on sale, the next day not. At least with the airlines you can put something on a 24 hour hold and hope that you have luck with MS on a ressie. When you book with MS you either take it then or take your chances it will be there when you call back. Anyone else wish they allowed a 24 hour hold?

The home resort advantage is only a benefit if you are able to schedule 11 months out. If you usually don't know your travel plans that far out then home resort doesn't really matter.
