What time do porters begin taking luggage?

I had read the tip about taking the luggage to the port, then taking Avis rent a car back to drop off.
However, we get the car at 10am on Fri for a 24hr period. Is 9am too early to drop off the luggage?
I love the idea about dropping off the luggage then we only have ourselves and our carry-ons to worry about getting on to the shuttle.

I believe it is not until 10:30 that they start accepting luggage. Can anyone confirm that?

I think Michelle is correct. On our cruise in January 2002, we couldn't drop off luggage until 10:30am. I tried to do it at 10:00 and was turned away by the security guards and told to return after 10:30.

same here....and the port authority personnel was not too friendly about it!!!
