The old thread was getting just too long and too hard to upload and download. So, on Lisa's suggestion, I took the initiative to start a new thread.
I don't know where the helpful hints are that Debra categorized for us, but perhaps she will pop in to give us some help with that.
Personally, weeks of steroids, inactivity, and pain have not left me skinnier. They left me in a condition much like the trash bag.....Hefty, Hefty, Hefty! It's official as much as I didn't want to believe it, but I have gained 8 lbs since the very first Z-pack. :sad2: But great things will be happening soon!
Howard....I missed it. What happened to you? And btw, I feel your pain!
Beth, good to see you, I am right there with you girl! Let's get rid of this stuff!!!
Everyone, please come back! I NEED YOU!!!

Connie, you rock sweet pea and of course we are here with you!! Can't desert my cybertwin and future partner in crime!!!
I am on the better eating and less calorie wagon as soon as the HM is over. I have 5 pounds to drop before ToT in 23 days and I am determined to get this done. Over the weekend I discovered that my DD13 weighs the same as my SIL and they were both very proud to tell everyone that I was 4 pounds heavier then them. Well no more. I have a plan in place sitting and waiting for me to be done this half marathon and then I am at it with a vengence.
Everyone should read Dave's blog today about being an athlete. It is well worth the read!!! Thanks again Dave! :flower3:
Everyone else, hop on the wagon with Connie and I, we need someone to drive cuz if she is as much like me as they say....well there could be some sharp corners ahead so we should probably not take them like Richard Petty!!! :scared1: Who's with us??? :listen:

Oooh a new thread! So I'm going to sneak in since I mostly lurked on the previous one
My PT suggested that we skip our training session this week so that I could rest after the 1/2. I have to say that I'm really missing that workout and it didn't help that I had two big dinners earlier this week. I think in the months leading up to the 1/2 in January I want to add in one more training session a week or try boxing. I usually see someone else doing a boxing workout when I'm working out and it looks really fun. Anyway, I have to keep on with my weight loss - did I mention I put myself down for a 'S' shirt in January. :rotfl: That was before I realized how running shirts fit.
Lisa - I think I'll run alongside the wagon - I need the workout this week!

:wave2: Hi, everyone!
Vicky! Welcome out of lurk mode!
Connie and Lisa, I'm still in the boot for the most part -- and like Connie, I am paying a hefty price for my enforced inactivity. It's very frustrating -- I tried to get faster and instead I got sidelined by an injury. My PT reminded me today though that even prefessional athletes with expensive trainers and stellar nutrition programs -- you know, the ones who are supposed to be doing everything RIGHT?!?!?!? -- even those folks get injured. She says we just have to deal with it and come up with a plan to avoid this injury in the future. I see my race season slipping away and it is so hard not to get really bummed. But you can't rush healing -- you can only help it along by doing what you're told (strengthening, stretching, icing) and waiting for those good results.
I've got to get back on the fish and veggie wagon, too, as well as cope with the injury. It is not a good idea to create more of a problem for myself with unhealthy weight gain.
Thanks for restarting the thread, Connie.

Don't worry.......I'll drive!!! :cool1: I am motivated now!!!! My short term goal is 5 pounds at a time (per month would be great!). My total weight loss (hopefully) should be 20-25 pounds.
I am starting off with losing 4 pounds since my doctor's appointment last week. I am happy with that.
So, the wagon is filling up...........I'm driving!

Hi Everyone!
I really need to be on the healthy eating wagon! Does this wagon have seatbelts (or maybe something stronger in my case  )? I have a tendency to jump off this particular wagon. I really have to work on my will-power and motivation.
I've been doing well with exercise, just not with eating. I'm running my very first race ( a 1/2 marathon) in 10 days! :scared1:

Hi Everyone,
I'm in. I need to lose the 5 lbs I gained this summer as well as the 1 lb I found in September. My marathon is in 17 days so I'm only going to concentrate on eating healthy until then, after that I'll be looking to cut calories and starting some more cross training.
Connie: Thanks for getting us a new fresh thread. I hope your shoulder is feeling better soon. Sorry about the weight gain, but I know you'll take care of it as soon as you're able to train.
Lisa: I'm with you on your goal. I would also like to be below 130. At 5'4" that doesn't seem too unreasonable, but I've not been at that weight since college, and even then I think it was only for a short time. I'm somewhat annoyed with myself since I was only 8 lbs away from that goal in June, but now I'm facing 14 lbs. Not insurmountable, but substantial.
Vicky: Welcome. You deserve a bit of a break after your race. Rest a few days so you don't get injured. Congrats on your finish.
Amy: Good luck with your mission.
Beth: Congratulations on the 4 lbs. Your 5 lb at a time approach is very reasonable. Thanks for driving the wagon.
Wendy: So sorry about your injury. I'm sure you are very bummed about missing out on your races. Take the time now to get better and you'll enjoy all your future races even more. Good luck.
Julie: Good luck with your race. Just remind yourself that you really need to fuel your body well for your race. Even if you eat too much, if it's healthy eating you know you'll benefit in your race.
I've started reading The Beck Diet Solution and one of the suggestions is to write down all the reasons why you want to lose weight and read these every day. It's a good reminder of why you are doing this. One of my reasons is that it will be more fun to go shopping. I'm going to concentrate on that one to help with my motivation. A nice new dress to wear to a Christmas party could help inspire me.
Have a great day everyone.

And I'm back! Need the encouragement and the more-than-occassional kick in the pants to stay on track. I have new outlook, new motivation and friends that are right along with me.
I finally got the yo-yo 3lbs to stay off so now need to ramp it up. Would also like to drop 4-5 lbs before ToT and another 10 before Jan. Not unattainable just have to really put my all into it.

Way to go on the weight loss everyone. Keep it up.
I received my Crossing the Line medal frame yesterday. It came with an extra Disneyland Half and Coast to Coast medals. I had to insert my own Donald, Mickey, and Goofy.
Very nice, a bit pricey, but hey I'm only planning on getting one. Hmmm, unless there's left over funds after the 2009 & 2010 Coast to Coast challenges.

I struggled with my 8 miler today. No legs, no lung capacity. Got it done, that's all that counts.
I didn't quite recuperate from my blood donation on Monday. Likely low red blood cell count, or lower iron count. My pace was off, and was low on energy despite taking Shot blocks.
Oh well, #98 donation in the books for Hawaii. Something like 20 back in California.
LOST was filming at the Waikiki Yacht Club, just down the sidewalk from where I start and end my runs. The film crew was parked all over the place, so I talked to one of the guys. He said they were filming a car scene in the parking lot, and with all the yachts in the background.
Happy Aloha Friday everyone.
Oh, one more thing. A new half and full marathon is slated for September 6, 2009 on Kauai. Here's the link:

Aloha Jeff, hanging out with the super stars... You have got the life, bro (or should I say "brudda" like they did on Hawaii 5-0? you're probably too young to remember that -- I'm sure it was terrible sterotyping)!
Jeanne - Thanks for the compliment! I gotta get back on track. I've slipped out of one-derland. :scared1: Today I get to go without the boot for a few hours! Hooray! I feel like it's been years since I trained. But I'm still planning on our 20-on-the-20th long walk/run in December. Hope you're still planning on me! I am officially out of the City of Oaks -- so my next possible marathon is OBX in November. My PT says if I attempted the hilly City of Oaks, I might put myself out of commision for another month, which would put my Goofy races in jeopardy. (And they are very important to me.)

I'm been holding strong to my 6lb loss and I'm hoping for another 5 this month. My workouts have been really consistent and I'm making the time even when it seems that I don't have the time. DS2 placed his hand on the hot burner of the stove yesterday...I spent yesterday cuddling and loving on him. We go back to the Dr. today to take a look at the blisters.:sad1: Take care all!

Good morning!
Everyone thanks for jumping aboard! Lisa, WE DO need a driver!!!
Beth, thanks for volunteering! Gosh, there's no telling where we would be headed without you! Let's all hang on for dear life and weight, anyway, don't ya think??
Wendy - Been in a boot! Yuck. Glad you are getting to come out of it from time-to-time. When I messed up the ligamants in the same ankle later, I did some rehab and wore one of those lace up braces. Not a problem since. I am still practicing standing on one foot on a pillow!
Mike - Howard, sorry I got you mixed up! Too many names to put together and remember I guess. Howard great times as alwasys. Mike how did you hurt yourself. I missed it. I guess I was a little self absorbed.
VickiBunny! Welcome out of lurking! We are glad to hear your voice!
HI Cindy, I have missed you!
Jeanne, hey girl! Good to see you too!
Debra???
Vic is here!
Everyone writers and lurkers, welcome aboard!
I am off the couch!!! In more ways than one. If I can put a bra strap on that lovely left shoulder, I am going to hit the tready for some easy walking. Nothing strenuous, just a start. AND I am off the couch and on a bed!!!!! I had a wonderful nights sleep and life feels much better this morning!
I am so excited about training for the Goofy in 2010 and about coming along so quickly with this surgery (weaning from the sling in less than 4 weeks instead of the normal 6 to 8 weeks!) that I ordered a pair of running tights and a triathalon skirt! Yeeeeehaw!

Stacie: Good luck with your 5K and water fitness test. Let us know how you did.
Tracy: Great job on your 15lbs lost. Keep up the good work.
Liz: Yea for the new outlook and motivation. Keep with it!!

Wendy, sorry that you have to pull out of City of Oaks....I will miss you!
Yep, we're still on for 20 on the 20th. There are 2 possible routes, but I'm beginning to think that my less favorite is actually more practical. The one I prefer leads right from my front door, covers 18 holes plus the back 9 again of a golf course and then goes all through Heritage including twice up and down a soccer field. It is hilly, but all the hills are short ones. The downside is that no one is allowed on the golf course so we have to start in the wee hours so we can be off by the time the starters arrive. The second downside is that I just learned one of the long roads which was previously under construction has finally been finished and is now open to traffic, which means it is now out of the equation. The second route is an exactly 5-mile lap around Wakefield (about 10 min. from my home) that we could do 4 times. It only has a few hills but they are gradual and l-o-n-g. One of them gets me everytime. The plus side is that we wouldn't have to start so early, especially since the weather should not be an issue. Unfortunately, we will have to veer off the course just a little bit for potty stops. John loves this route, but I actually hate it. It shouldn't be too bad if we do it together, plus we will pass our car every 5 miles so we won't have to carry all our fuel with us. Let me know if you feel strongly about either one.
Everyone else:  have a great weekend!

Ok.......we need a route and a destination for the wagon trip. I am bringing the wagon north first to pick up Lisa. After meeting with Lisa in Maine we will start picking up each member as we move forward. The wagon's destination is Hawaii (I know, we can't drive the wagon over the ocean, but we are pretending here, OK?????? :goodvibes ) We all want Jeff's beautiful scenery, so we will meet him there for a run (not Jeff's pace of course!)
The first thing we all need to do is figure out how many calories we need a day. If you don't know, I suggest visiting Sparkpeople (which is free) to get your goals down, and figure out how many calories you need a day. Sparkpeople will also let you journal your food intake daily, and give you the calorie and nutritional count for the food you are eating. It's a great system for free!
I will need 1200 to 1400 calories a day. I also spoke to my weight loss physician (hallway consult in the hospital of course!) And he gave me some excellent advice how to handle low carb and exercise. I am to eat 50 to 60g of carbs 1/2 hour before excerise to burn off. I will try it for the next couple of weeks and see how things go. I have lost 6 pounds since last week, but it will now slow down alot.
Okay, when you figure out calorie counts, post them here along with your goals. The bus driver is interested!

Hey all!! It's Sunday, so I'm back to report. Been good this week with getting in my training, not so good with the points - but ok (Weight Watchers).
Down another pound, so total lost (10weeks) is 16 lbs. Sorry, I just can't get into the calories thing, that is why I do WW - I do journal so I can keep track of the points and what I'm eating. ANd thats about as far as I want to go with all that stuff.
Have a great week everyone!!

Morning Meaners. Beth, the trip sounds very scenic albeit a little wet!!
My calorie count is between 1200-1400 also for weight loss. Believe it or not when I am not in race training, I have trouble eating 1200 calories. I just don't eat unless I am seriously burning I guess. I need to concentrate more on protein intake. I love the Doc advice about the pre-run carbs though, I may give that a go.
So, half marathon down, no weight down though. I guess I ate too much afterward (thank you Joanne). Today starts maintenance and more concentration on core and supporting muscle bulking so I am stronger going into the next one, next year.
Oh, and I got a PR in the race at 2:12:47 by running with Amybeth68 and ScoJo15. Love to both of them. They are awesome. Cindylou, thank you from the bottom of my heart to you and your beautiful girls for making the trek to cheer us on. Linda (momof2minnies) was in the race with us and finished strong. Chad (Mickeyhead aka, Mr. Kristi1357) smoked the half with a new PR also. He totally rocked his old record!!
So today I am feeling good, strong, happy and ready to tackle the new training regimen along with cleaning up my eating. Now, where is that wagon......:confused3 :rolleyes1

Good Morning everyone!
So I think since the scale has been stuck for a month (Thanks in part to vacay), I am going to have to change it up a bit. I haven't gained any which is good, clothes are getting looser, but I haven't lost any weight. I've lost the 30+ pounds in the last 6 months without counting a single calorie or point, but I think I am going to check out sparkpeople and WW today. Maybe that will put me on track for more consistent weight loss.
On a positive note, I PR'd my race for the cure 5K on saturday! Under a 12 minute mile pace and negative splits! All of my training is paying off!! :woohoo:
Beth Thanks for driving the wagon!!
Lisa :woohoo: :yay: for your PR on the 1/2!

Okay, spots are filling up on the wagon!!!! Yippee! Connie don't worry......we'll pick you up next! The virtual trip can be anything we want!
We all are on different plans......so substitute 'points' for calories if you are a WW follower. I think of them as the same anyway.......I just wanted everyone to post for accountability!
I don't follow calories normally......I usually follow carbs......but I want to change things up and do both right now. It helps me to really check what I am eating. I don't believe in the low carb/endless eating mentality. Some that follow low carb eat whatever/whenever. That mentality is a big red flag to me. I am an unconcious eater.........and that leads me down the obese path.
I am 42 years old. I have been fighting the weight issue since I was 6 years old. That is too long........I am actually trying to change up my thinking, and liking who I am right now. On the whole, I like most things about myself and what I don't like I will work on (my abdominals and back). Let's be positive with our goals. WE ARE ALREADY GREAT! (we are just getting better!)
Lisa: Great job on the PR! You deserved that.....you have been working really hard for it, and you did it!!!! :yay: :worship: :yay:
Amy: Vacay can cause problems getting back to business. Been there, and bought the tee shirt! I think visiting sparkpeople is a great thing, even if you are following points.
Wagon tip of the day: Lets drink to celebrate the wagon trip.......drinking water that is!!!!! Lets get all our water in today.......I usually do, but it's something that can sneak up on me and miss my water when I am busy. I got myself a BIG cup (refillable soda cup) and fill it with water for my whole day. It's insulated and keeps ice for 8 hours!!!!! It really helps me get my water in everyday.

Hello mean-leaners!
Tracy: great job on the weight loss!
Tracey: hope your son's burn is recovering nicely. It's frightening how things like that happen so quickly. I remember once when my son was about 18 mos. old I was serving him scrambled eggs and he reached up and just grabbed the hot skillet...ouch! I put on salve and wrapped his little hand in a bandage; then when the leader of the Mommy and Me program saw it, she acted like she was going to call protective services! Bad mommy!
Beth: I certainly hear your lament and can commiserate. Some people just have such a difficult time getting the scale to budge no matter what they do. Unless you've been there, no one else can imagine how hard we struggle. In fact, I think that most slim peole secretly believe we are all closet eaters and that's just not true. I've learned to console myself with the fact that despite my appearance, I AM healthy. My vitals are good and my body works. It doesn't look the way I would like it to, but I've been blessed in other ways and this is just something i have to deal with. I've learned to surround myself with peole that don't put me down for my size and accept me as I am. I think you're a beautiful person...both outside and in!
Lisa: great job on the race and achieveing that new PR! Way to go, girl!
Susie: I'll miss you at TofT this year! (esp. mini-golf with that cheating Panda, Dave!)
Jeff: wow, 20miles and we're not even close to marathon weekend yet. That's the kind of stuff I can only dream about at this point. You rock, dude!

Hi Lean and Meaners. Can I wander back over and say hi?
I'm just a simple fellow and I tend to look at things simply. I was able to change my body back to where I wanted it by making some basic changes:
I cut out ALL fried food, at Disney if I have a burger which is very rare for me to do normally, I will have fries with it. That's it nothing else fried.
Lots of veggies, basicly all I want, and some white meat chicken or turkey or fish are my staples. I try to eat more fish if it's available.
We eat a lot of meals out. You can get your food customed cooked for you without the fat. I get veggie omlets with no cheese and no holinday sauce for example.
Exercise is regular and with feeling. I you ain't sweating real good you didn't workout hard enough.
Erica has accomplished a lot in the last 4 months also, 8 inces off her waist and gone from a size 16 to a comfortable size 10. She went total vegg and is doing her walking 3 days a week. She has only lost 20 lbs but lots of muscle replacing the fluff.
Jeanne you, and all our princesses, are beautiful ladies. I love all of you and miss all of you bunches.
We all have different body types and different levels of motivation and different demons to slay. We are on this journey together and we can cheer each other and lean on each others shoulders when we need to.
When I finished the Goofy my achillies was hurting pretty bad for a couple of months. When it finally got well enough to walk on I made a resolution that turned my fitness quest completely around. I decided I was going to do everything right. Duh! Well guess what is works. I've had 5 months of steadilly getting stronger and faster and not a spot of soreness.
I know I've said this before but, my secret to success is:
Warm-up EVERY TIME I exercise
Cool-down EVERY Time
Stretch EVERY TIME
Strength train
Eat a healthy low fat diet.
We can't all expect the same results with the same training but when we do have success we should share how we did it. The best plan is pick the things that have worked for others and customize them to fit your needs.
Ok shutting up now.

Dave,
Thanks for the advice. Kudos to Erica on the fabulous weight loss. That is quite impressive. What is she eating to get protein? Any worries about developing anemia when you swear off red meat? I hardly ever eat fried food, but I do love a good steak!

Erica takes a multi vitamin just as I do. She drinks soy milk and adds veggie protien powder to it to make like a smoothy thing. lots of veggies have protien like rice and beans eaten together.
No problem with anemia either, I train and race at a high level without doing any red meat. If you think about it we Americans get out butts kicked in endurance sports by people who don't eat a lot of red meat.
I get my protien from fish and white meat chicken and turkey. I eat a lot I mean a lot of veggies. I don't do much fruit since I get everything but the high sugar content from the veggies.
I miss your quirky sense of humor Jeanne.

Yuck......I'm not too fond of soy milk and/or protein powder. In fact everytime I get on a kick and decide I'm going to use protein powder, I'll do it for a few days and then the container will sit in my pantry untouched until it gets stale. I remember when I used to try to sneak protein powder into alot of my kids foods and they would go nuts! They had a name for it, but it has escaped me at the moment.
I guess there's no room for THIS on your plan?

You're right dear the halloween candy ain't on the list. You aren't one of them low carb eaters are ya?
I had to run away from a thread on the other part of wish, they were talking about what constituted a good healthy breakfast. I mentioned my Cherrios, banana and skim milk and they set me straight right now that was all wrong. To much sugar and carb. They were talking about how much better eggs and bacon were with no demon toast.
I kinda thought that fried fat like bacon and sasuage, although they taste good, are right up there with cigarettes as health food.
Totally out of step with the low carb lifestyle Panda:hippie:

So THIS is where all of the Lean Meaners have gone. I thought you all wasted away to nothing and slipped between the threads into oblivion. I am glad you are still here.
I have some training to report.. from earlier this evening.
Miles: 6
Time: 50:07
Pace: 8:21
Splits: 8:37, 8:29, 9:19, 8:11, 8:11, and 8:20.
I hope you all have a wonderful evening! :wave2:

Hi Everyone,
Howard: Glad you found us. Good job on the workout.
Dave: I guess life is really “to each his own”. I’m with you on the cheerios, although I like mine dry. I put a serving in a little baggie then bring them along as a snack. It satisfies the urge to crunch. Also, kudos to you for getting into such great shape this year.
Jeanne: Such temptation!! Yum. Unfortunately all of that is on my current plan. Obviously, I need to make some changes to that plan.
Maria: Hello. Hope all is well.
Beth: You are such a positive person, thanks for sharing that with us. I filled up my 1 L bottle of water and hope to finish it by lunchtime.
Amy: Sorry the scale hasn’t budged, but the fact that the clothes are getting looser is great. Great job on your 5K PR. It’s so encouraging to know that you are doing the right things as far as training.
Tracey: The massage was quite painful since all my muscles (& IT band) are extremely tight. But after a few days I’m feeling much better. I wish I could afford to go more often. I have another one scheduled for the day after my marathon, but that will probably be it for the rest of the year. Hope the stroller gets fixed soon so you can enjoy some outside runs before the weather gets bad.
Connie: I love the vow about only seeing the doctor for athletic injuries. That’s a great goal. Have you been athletic your entire life, or is it an adult-onset condition? Good luck with the PT. You’re making progress.
Lisa: Congrats again on achieving your PR. Also I think you’re really wonderful for staying with Amybeth while she was suffering so much. That really demonstrates the WISH spirit. I really enjoyed meeting you and Mike. It was fun cheering for all the runners. It’s great to be on the other side every once in a while. Good luck with your new training regimen. Get a good start now while your feeling motivated before all those ToT and bday temptations come your way.
Jeff: Good job getting the 20 done. Sorry you were a little low in the gas tank. A lesson for the next time.
Tracy: Good job on the WW. I also attempt to count points, but I haven’t been very diligent lately. It’s great that you report that you didn’t have a good week, but still managed to lose a lb. I’d take that every week.
As for me…I have managed to catch a cold. I am just 12 days away from my marathon, so I’m very upset. Unfortunately it’s in my chest. I’m taking Cold-eeze and trying to get lots of fluids. After training all summer for this race I will be so bummed if I can’t do my best. I’m hoping that it will pass quickly, but even then, I’m missing several workouts because of it. I was supposed to do 14 yesterday and cut it down to 5. Anyone have any great get well soon tips?
Have a great day everyone.

Cindy Sorry you are feeling . PD for a speedy recovery before your marathon.

Jeanne is that candy from this year? It looks better than what they had last year. I am cutting myself off from candy though. :sad1:

Went on sparkpeople and it said I should be getting between 1200-1500 calories/day. Anyone have any thoughts on how to get some protein in my breakfast? I don't do eggs. AT ALL. Would a protein shake be good? I need to add more protein to my diet overall and breakfast is where it is severely lacking.

Cindy: I totally understand with the cold thing......I ran 3 1/2 marathons in September and had a cold the whole time......what a drag! I hope you are feeling better by marathon time!!! :wizard: :wizard: Sending PD your way!
To all my Lean Meaner friends. I know that we are all on different plans for eating, and I by no means, am trying to sway anybody towards a certain plan. I have found that low carb works for me......and I know that it is not a popular choice in main stream society. I like the way it works for me, and how good I feel on it. I know it is not for everybody, and try not to discuss it much here. Please don't feel that that is my motivation. To WWDave, I appoligize to you if I have offended you. It was not my intention. Sugar has never been kind to me, I just didn't know it!!! :confused3 But, please take my appoligizes.

Copy and paste from another thread.
Feels fine after a long rest...but I still have 10 days to go.
I'm on a prescription anti inflammatory, and ice and stretch the stupid thing multiple times every day.
I am VERY concerned about even participating in the marathon on November 1, given that I am missing the longest training run on the schedule (20 miles) this weekend...and have another week or so after that to rest.
My ultimate goal isn't to run the marathon, its to do the Ironman in Sept 09, so I am likely going to NOT do this event...which is frustrating, but again, my short term goal is conflicting with my long term goal...kinda like wanting to lose weight (long term) and eating this piece of pie (short term)...
Keep getting leaner and meaner folks!

I use this http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2944029&cp=2665513.2108294&parentPage=family
I used to use this: http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2986027&cp=&sr=1&kw=whey+protein+isolate&origkw=whey+protein+isolate&parentPage=search but stopped when I realized that they added sucralose (an artificial sweetener that i believe is dangerous) I sort of look the other way at the artificial flavor...can't seem to get away from it, but I'm not crazy about it.
If you are lactose intolerant, you should probably look for a whey protein ISOLATE rather than CONCENTRATE.
I decided on the first product (even though I am a bit intolerant) since it is a blend of isolate and concentrate, and doesn't contain sucralose.
Below is a recipe that I use for recovery shakes...
1) a big glass of water, a bagel with peanut butter, and a shake made of
1 cup of soy milk
1/2 cup plain yogurt
4-5 frozen strawberries
1 banana
2 TBS ground flax seed
1-2 (depending on workout intensity) scoops whey protein isolate/concentrate
I also put in a tablespoon of some hot cocoa mix (with the vanilla flavored mix) to make it yummylicious.
I actually premix a weeks worth of the dry ingredients to cut down on the number of containers I open every morning...

I have to say that Mike's recovery shakes are the bomb!! They are really good and filling too.
I have a recipe somewhere for a PB and banana smoothing for breakfast and some suggestions for 300 calorie-ish breakfasts but I need to go dig. Back una momento.......:surfweb:
EDIT:
PB and Banana Smoothie: 10 oz skim milk or soy milk, 1 Tbsp natural PB, 1 medium banana. Blend in a blender with 6 ice cubes for thicker consistency.
Other suggestions:
Yogurt parfait: 6 oz nonfat plain yogurt (I use Greek style for more protein), 2 tsp honey, 1 cup fruit of your choice and 1 granola bar crumbled. Mix the honey in the yogurt and top with fruit and granola.
Honey whipped cottage cheese with melon: 8 oz low fat cottage cheese, 1 TBSP honey, 1/2 cup chopped cantaloupe, 1/2 cup chopped honeydew melon, 2 TBSP chopped fresh mint. In a blender combine the cottage cheese and honey until smooth. Top with melon and mint.

Hello everyone! I'd been wanting to get in on this group but that other thread was a bit intimidating. Figured I'd jump in on the do-over here.
I need some motivation to finish out the year! I lost 25 lbs from Jan - May, then just stopped. I've kept running, so my weight has stayed mostly steady (I'm up 3-4 lbs) but I just can't get back on the wagon to lose the next 25. It's so silly - I KNOW what to do, like most people who have tried to lose weight - heck, we're experts! It's just the implementation of all my vast knowledge ;) where I run into the problem. Chile rellenos and snickerdoodle ice cream can kick my big ol' butt every time. Where's my willpower?
Looking forward to getting some good ideas, motivation and a kick in the pants when I need one. (Hint - I need one today! 2 cups of coffee and a piece of cheese does not make a healthy breakfast.)

Good Morning Lean Meaners! I am trying really hard to get on the wagon though I it appears I am dragging my feet and running along beside you.
I'm not one to count calories, but I went back to check when I was on Spark people before and it said 1400-1700 cal a day. Seems like a lot to me. I coudn't figure out how to check it or how they had come up w/ that number in the past.
I did have a small victory today. DH went to McDonald's for b-fast. Instead of asking him to get a bacon egg and cheese as I would have normally wanted, I asked for the Fruit and Yogurt parfait. :goodvibes
I completed my 5 K on Saturday. It took me 44:03 to finish, which I thought was not too bad. It came out to an avg of about a 14 mpm pace. I walked it w/ a running burst 2-3 min once per mile. We were the 4th from the last people to finish, but I still tried to have a positive attitude.
My Water Fitness training went well and hopefully I'll have my certificate in a few weeks. yay!
The book signing was cool. Found out that Nicholas Sparks ran a marathon in college years and finished in something like 2:14 or 2:17. I can't remember exactly.
I also ordered new shoes on Friday. Even with $40 in discounts those suckers till cost me $98! I ended up w/ my Saucony Hurricanes again. Which was fine. I really wanted the Asiacs Kayanos to work for me, but they just didn't.
Not sure if any of you ladies wear or like Pandora jewelry. DH bought me one of their bracelets this weekend. The charm I chose was called the "tree of life" and since my first 5K was at the Animal Kingdom, I thought it would be an appropriate first charm.
NC LADIES... I'm looking at fuel belt options and didn't know by chance if any of you have one that you may not use anymore that you might be able to let me borrow to see if I like that type before I spend the $$ to get something. I'm afraid of paying a lot of money and then not liking it. I'd just like to be able to try something out before I make the purchase.
Lisa... Great job on your Half!!! I know you must of had a great time running w/ Scott and Amy!
Cindy...I hope your cold gets better! :wizard:
Amy...Great job on your 5K girl! You are getting speedy!!!
Shout outs to everyone else. I've rambled on too long and must now sign off. Back to work. ugh. Stay healthy and train smart!

Can you send that wagon to Wyoming? I'm not that far from Tx! I need to jump on that wagon!!!! Sugar is my downfall - in any form, but especially chocolate! I agree with the earlier post that we all know what we are supposed to do, it is just a matter of doing it!
For protein in the morning, I eat Kashi GoLean Crunch with either fresh fruit or dryed fruit and yogurt, it has protein, also, there are some oatmeals that have protein. My husband needs to eat alot of protein, so we look for things with extra protein.

Amy: yes, the candy was from this year. The only place we got the Ghiardelli's was at the turnstiles as we were exiting. I guess if they gave them out anywhere else people would keep going back!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make soy milk more palatable? Even the flavored ones taste like chalk to me.

Good Morning Everyone,
Jeff: Glad the run was better. Unfortunately not every run is great. It sure does make you appreciate the good ones though.
Jeanne: I haven’t been able to acquire a taste for soy milk either. I do use Genisoy chocolate powder in regular milk along with a scoop of Nesquick. That adds a lot of sugar, but it’s a great post-workout drink and quite yummy.
Lynn: Welcome to the wagon. I’m with you with the sugar and chocolate.
Mike: Hope the rest is going well. I’m sure it’s a very difficult decision to skip the race on Nov. 1st. You seem like you are being very logical with keeping the big picture in mind.
Stacie: I haven’t heard of Pandora jewelry, I’ll have to go look it up. The tree of life charm seems quite appropriate. Congrats on doing well with your water fitness. Good job on your 5K. It’s great to see your positive attitude.
Kayci: Welcome to this thread. I completely understand how hard it is to get back into the swing of losing weight. The only thing you can do is to keep trying and remind yourself of why you want to lose the weight. Hopefully the right combination of motivation and lack of temptations will come along and you’ll get back to it.
Lisa: I like the honey whipped cottage cheese suggestion. I will definitely try that one. I’ve switched to Greek yogurt too although it’s sooooo expensive in my grocery store.
Beth: I certainly don’t feel like you are trying to convert me to your diet ways. I think it’s always good to hear a different view because it makes you rethink what you are doing. I really think that different plans work for different people – not only physiologically but psychologically as well.
Amy: My protein suggestions for breakfast are peanut butter toast, a cereal with high protein (I like the Kashi Go Lean too), Greek yogurt with fruit. I guess there’s nothing saying you can’t have a piece of turkey or ham for breakfast. Shakes would be good too, although I feel like I don’t have time for that in the morning. It probably wouldn’t take me any longer to make that than to make my toast - it’s just mental I guess.
Maria, Connie, Tracey, Howard, Wendy, Julie, Tracy, Vic and everyone else: Hello.
I’m feeling sicker today which I take as a good sign that this cold is progressing. I’ll skip my tempo run today and see how I feel tomorrow. I’ve searched for home remedies and came up with apples, onions and garlic. I plan to make a very garlicky soup tonight, pity for my family and co-workers.
There was a good article in RW about running again after a failed marathon attempt. They suggest waiting 4 to 8 weeks to try again, so now I’m looking into Plan B marathons in case I don’t qualify for Boston in my next attempt. Richmond, VA has a marathon which is near where my Mom lives. Trying to figure if I can justify the $ to fly down there just to run a race. I’ll have to have a discussion with DH about that.
Gotta go fill my water bottle. I hope to wash this cold right out of my system.
Have a great day everyone.

Cindy: Thanks for the reply......just wanted to make my intentions clear. I really like the motivational side of things and want to support all of you in your weight loss endeavors. I am glad the cold seems to be progressing.....my didn't and hung on instead. Maybe by marathon time you will be 100%! I am proud of you for the goal of qualifying for Boston!!!! :cool1: Good idea to have plan B if you need it. I am cheering you on!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Mike: I am starving too after a bowl of cereal......I used to think I was just weird. Glad to hear someone else experiencing the same thing! I hope things are healing up for you..... I hate the forced sidelines (even if it's for my own good!) Still, the rest will only help you in the end!
Jeanne: I don't think there is making soy milk better.......but, you might find that you get used to it! Some things I used to eat were horrible, but over time I acclimated to them and now like them! Would you only be using it on cereal, or drinking it too? I would think it would be easier to accept on cereal. I hear you on the accepted discrimination of people who are heavier......I never realized it to much at my heaviest (I have been heavy for such a long time), but when I started to get the weight down people treated me different. Yes, most thin people assume that we are just eating all the time......and no, it is not true. I might not eat the healthiest 100% of the time, but I am not constently eating either......makes me sad to see!
Kayci: Sure......I would be happy to swing the bus to pick you up! Welcome aboard! I do think a little protein for breakfast helps me through the day! I love the Kashi! The one I had tasted alot like Sugar Smacks when I was a little kid!
Lynn: Welcome!! The wagon is open to all! It's one big healthy party! Be sure to bring your water cup!
Wagon Tip of the Day: Give yourself a break! This is a long term lifestyle.....if you blow it for a meal or snack, get back to it the next meal! None of us is perfect, and when we eat something we shouldn't we need to stop punishing ourselves. Usually leads me to eat bad the rest of the day......since I blew it already, mine as well keep eating right? NO! Move on immediately, and eat well the next meal (NOT the next day!). We all are walking/running/working out, so add a few minutes into our workout that day. And stop thinking you are a bad person for having something we shouldn't! Enjoy the indiscreation, and get back to your healthy eating immediately!

Hey everyone!
I also cannot drink the soy milk. No matter what I do to it, it's gross. However I also do not drink milk - not lactose intolerant but if I put too much in cereal it can make me slightly queasy. It also smells sour to me long before anyone else thinks it's going. Fine with cheese/yogurt just not in large quantities.
And cereal for breakfast leaves me looking for more food in about an hour, too. I like either greek yogurt with fruit/granola or a whole wheat english muffin with sunflower butter.
If you have a Trader Joe's store in your area, they carry Greek yogurt MUCH cheaper than anyone else and their english muffins are about half the price of Thomas'. I get my granola at Whole Foods.
Keep up the great work!

Stacie Congrats on the water fitness training! :woohoo: I hope to join our YMCA soon so I can take some of the water classes they offer. What kind of bike do you have again? We're shopping for bikes and I just remember that I really liked how yours looked. (not that looks should be a high priority! :rotfl: )
I did get in a good run last night. Instead of following the 3/2 intervals suggested in the MfM plan, I kind of just went with how I felt and ended up running 5-6 minutes with 1-2 minutes walking. I actually felt better than when I did the shorter intervals last week and covered almost a quarter mile more in the same amount of time.
Have a good day!

Yay! I think you will really like the water classes! I know I do. As far as the bike, We got the Trek FX 7.2. Mine is the WSD (Women's Specific Design). For me, it seemed like a really good starter bike--a good cross between a road bike and hybrid bike. I was also told you can change out the gear cassette in the back to make it a bit more like the road bike at low cost of around $40 if I ever see I need to do that. Right now, I'm pretty happy with it.
Good luck and have fun shopping!

Good morning Lean Meaners! I went for my weekly training session yesterday. I didn't get as good a workout as I had hoped. I'm still having some foot pain which my PT wasn't able to figure out. He says I'm still okay to run so I'm happy about that! I was hoping for a tougher workout so that I could burn off some of the birthday cake so I told him I'm bringing him a big piece instead. Otherwise I'm going to end up eating cake the rest of the week.
Lynn - I love the Kashi Go Lean Crunch! Have you tried their Honey Almond Flax cereal!
Amy - I was looking at my carton of skim milk and it says one cup has 9g of protein. I think eggs have about 6g ... although neither will have as much as a protein shake.
Cindy - pixiedust: I hope you feel better soon! It seems to be the time of year for colds.
jeanneg - I've never been a fan of soy milk either. I don't mind chocolate soy milk as much but it still wouldn't be my first choice.
Lisa - The yogurt parfait recipe sounds yummy! I've never heard of Greek yogurt before. I'll have to keep an eye out for it when I go to the grocery store this weekend.
Jeff - Wow I hope to run that fast - one day :rotfl:
Kayci - Congrats on losing the first 25! I'm the same way when I lose weight - I get a little side tracked after losing a little bit as well.
Have a great day everyone!

Hi friends! I logged on early this morning, and WOW! we've been busy around here. That's fantastic! Way to stay on plan, Lean Meaners!:cheer2: I took notes and then got busy with the kidlets and now I'm back to post. Hopefully, my notes still make sense.:rolleyes1
Amy....looks like you had a good run last night and CONGRATS on your 5k, I know under 12mpm was your goal! :cheer2: :cheer2: I tend to stick with peanut butter toast on Earth Grains double fiber bread (2pcs.=2 pts)! It sticks with me all morning. And...if you're looking to make smoothies-nothing beats a Magic Bullet---you make a single serving and throw the cup in the dishwasher--easy, easy, easy.:)
Beth...Water is the thing I struggle with most and I can always feel it in my runs. It's amazing what a difference it makes. I don't think anyone took offense at your low carb suggestions. I think we all understand that what works for you, may not work for me and vice versa. I've settled into the WW program because it's become easy and natural for me, but I've gotten lazy and not writing my food intake down and that's my downfall. Thanks for your suggestions and driving the wagon train!
Jeanne...my little guys burns are getting better everyday----I don't think the Dr. knew who to console first, as both Timmy and I were really upset.
Maria...Hey girl!:yay: :yay: So glad we didn't lose you.;)
Panda....Your suggestions are always welcome around here and we miss you when you don't show yourself for a couple of days. How's the walking program at the gym going?
Howard...Nice run and you sure know how to sweet talk the ladies around here! Glad you found our new thread.
Cindy...I was thinking..nice relaxing massage (not painful:scared1:) I'm not sure my stoller will ever be up to another run....The frame popped through the nylon (what do I expect after 10 years?) Sending :pixiedust: for your cold. Mama always said, "Rest and lots of liquids." Sometimes old remedies are the best.;)
Mike...sorry about the knee, but I think you're smart in keeping your sights on the bigger picture. We are banana bread lovers around here, too. Although, a loaf only lasts for a couple of hours with the 4 boys picking on it.:lmao: I'm giving the recovery shake recipe to my son.
Lisa....Yum, the cottage cheese "parfait" sounds awesome.
Kayci...:welcome: from one Show-Me state-er to the other. I did the same thing you did and lost about 30 lbs then plateaued for :scared1: 7 mos.:scared1: . Mike suggested in a post that it's not what you're eating for the last day or two, it's what you've done for the last 2 weeks. I realized that I'd be really good and stick to my plan for 7-8 days and when I saw nothing on the scale....:rolleyes1 I'd cheat. Then I'd repeat! I finally started writing everything down and pledged to stick with in for 2wks and.....the scale started moving again. Now, as I'm writing this I realize that I need to start writing in all down again to be more accountable.
Stacie...Nice job choosing the yogurt parfait and the Egg McMuffin wouldn't be a bad choice either.:thumbsup2 You stuck with it and finished the 5k, that's something to be very proud of. :yay: :woohoo: :yay:
Lynn...:welcome:
Jeff...:yay: 8:43 average....You boys are all soooooooo speedy! Only in my dreams will I run that fast.;)
Liz....Nice to see you (or hear from you). I love yogurt with granola on top. I had been making my own, but can't find a recipe that I love. So now, I'm back to buying "Bare-Naked" and just found "Udi's" which is really yummy, too.
Vicky...Yum, B-day cake! Sometimes, it's just better to give it away.
Everyone else....
Yesterday was pilates, today is an easy 4 miler. We've been busy with all the boys and our oldest DS15 is running Cross Country. He had a meet yesterday, and it's always amazing to see these kids pushing themselves to the limit. One of the girls ran by yesterday, she was going uphill and passed by saying, "I just want to quit", the group around me encouraged her saying, "You can do this". Then two girls came across the finish line with their arms around each others shoulders because one girl fell and the other girl (from another school) stoppped to help her up and then helped her run the last 1/2 mile to the finish line. I get so much inspiration from going to those meets. If you've got extra pixie dust send it Jake's way because next week he starts in qualifying races for state. His fastest time is a 16:48-5k. Have a great day all!

All caught up, and ready to chat!
Hey Lean Meaners!
Connie -- Thanks for starting the new thread! :worship:
Lisa -- Count me on the wagon, too! I'm more of a passenger, but I navigate well for others! :thumbsup2
Vicki --:welcome:
Amyk -- Is that baby running you ragged yet? She's already started off on the right fitness foot! :cutie:
Wendy -- Keep on Leading, we will follow! :cheer2:
Vic -- :wave2:
Beth -- I know how you Nascar people drive, this is going to be a speedy wagon! Pick me and Julie up as you swing through Boston :drive:
Julie -- Are you ready for your first race?! :woohoo:
Kayci -- I don't know where you get Snickerdoodle ice cream, and that's probably a good thing. I don't think I could resist! :sad2:
Cindy -- I love the Beck Diet Solution, I just need to get back to following it. I even have my index cards, I just need to pull them out. I hope your cold does get better, and you feel awesome for your marathon! :wizard:
Tracy -- Hola!:)
Tracey -- I hope your son's hand is better. That is so scary as a parent, but I'm sure he was happy to have Mom cater to his every need when it happened.
Lynn -- I've always wanted a good look around at the West, Let's go!
Liz -- Your goals are definitely achievable! :yay:
Mike -- I know it's driving you crazy to rest, but you know you have to do it. :cool2:
Jeanne -- Onederland is calling us, we will get there! That candypalooza was just crazy! popcorn::
Jeff -- YOur medal frame sounds awesome, what's even better is the effort you put into earning them. :thumbsup2
Stacie -- How'd the water test go? :flower:
Dave -- So glad to see you and read your sage advice. You and Erica are both great role models! :goodvibes
Howard -- Who's been working hard?! So totally you! :cool1:
I took my first yoga class at work Tuesday. It was really fun, and much more challenging than I thought it would be. Who knew my toes could curl under? The subsidized classes (a healthy employee is a productive employee) only cost us $5, but I spent $80 on equipment and clothes, so I guess I'd better enjoy it!
I decide to increase my daily wogs to 2.75 miles, and go to 3 next month. I'm just not getting enough challenge after 2.5 for two weeks. Hopefully this will also get the scale moving -- downward, that is :rolleyes1
My breakfast of choice is low sugar oatmeal with a handful of blueberries and a sprinkling of sliced almonds. Eggs make me vaguely nauseous, so I try to avoid them...
Everybody have a Lean Mean Night, and a Great New Day!

Good morning Meaners.
Funny that a few of you mention eggs making you nauseous in the morning. They do me too!! I cannot eat eggs until at least 9 a.m. (of course I have been up for 4-5 hours by then).
I tend to lean toward lighter breakfast and lunches as I eat so early. I snack a lot during the day (yes veggies and fruit) but I try to add in a protein with my snack to make it last a little longer. I am also working on adding some protein in on my long runs instead of just electrolytes. It has been making a difference with my mile 12 cramp that I get during a half. Yes, I got another one but Amybeth was in such agony by then it seemed like too small of a thing to bother with.
I hate to say this out loud but I buy my Greek yogurt at WalMart. It is cheaper there and I find it the same quality as the stuff I get at the health food store. I add almonds, sunflower seeds, fruit, pretty much anything to bulk it up a little but I am loving the added protein and it has a little more substance than regular yogurt. My kids are even eating it!!
Mike, I have to be careful what I eat for breakfast too. If I eat the wrong thing I will eat the wrong things all day. I did order some high protein cereal from GNC which, turns out, is just cereal with whey powder in it. DUH. So there is a suggestion for you cereal eaters, add a scoop of whey protein to your cereal to bulk it up a little. I do have to say that it definitely sticks with me better than regular cereal. It also comes in these handy pouches that I can pack for WDW...:rolleyes1
Maria, yoga, the benefits are endless, your core, your mind, your muscles... You will come to love it after you get more comfortable with it. I try to get in 15 minutes every day.
Amy, invest in a Magic Bullet or something similar. It is small to store and perfect smoothie size. I use mine ALL the time. I used it last night to make pesto sauce for my pasta dish!!
Everyone else, a big old hi!!!
From the Great North Woods, hey lets get back to the way we were right, I am suffering from a massively sore toe. I tried to trim the nail and it made me cry, really. Apparently I was pushing off a different way than usual but I was running faster than usual too, not to mention the hills...:sad2: So I read in RW that you can substitute 3.5 bike miles for every 1 run mile and I am going to use that plus the elliptical to get me through this little sore time. Hopefully it is over and done with by this weekend.
The 2 other things that I wanted to mention from RW this month are that green tea helps with post-run soreness issues. Apparently the catechins which are also great for cancer prevention and other things, also help with muscle soreness. So drink green tea!!
Next up, incentive to race, the newly recommended post race recovery drink is.... CHOCOLATE MILK. YAY for little things in life. :woohoo:

Good Morning Meaners,
Lisa: Pixie Dust for your toe. pixiedust: I hope it gets better soon. I saw that bit about the green tea in RW. I have a box on my desk at work, maybe I should start drinking it. Thanks for the Walmart suggestion for the greek yogurt, I’ll have to check it out.
Maria: So nice to see you. Good job on increasing your wogs. I’m sure if you stay consistent you’ll see the scale move. I hope you enjoy the yoga. It’s great that your company is helping you get healthy. My company just started feeding us once a week. I think they are trying to boost morale. First it was pizza then ice cream and cookies and today is breakfast. I don’t want to seem ungrateful, but I wish they would have a few healthier choices. Hopefully they will have some fruit.
Tracey: Lots of luck to Jake with qualifying for states. Sub 17 minute 5K is fabulous, especially for cross-country. I’m not sure what the courses are like where you are, but when I ran in HS they always had HILLS. Sorry about your stroller. Hopefully you can find a good deal at a yard sale.
Vicky: Belated birthday wishes if it’s your bday cake you are giving away. I hope the foot pain goes away.
Stacie: I checked out the Pandora jewelry site. Those bracelets are gorgeous. Unfortunately the one I like cost 4 digits. Not quite in my budget right now – or anytime soon.
Amy: Good job on running longer intervals. Maybe going with how your body feels is the way to go.
Liz: Thanks for the Trader Joe’s suggestion. We have one not too far away, I will try there.
Beth: Thanks for the cheers. Your tip of the day is a great one, if only I could adhere to it. I have that all or nothing thinking which can really sink me if I have one cheat.
To everyone else: Hello, hope healthy eating and strong training are a part of your day today.
My cold is hanging around. I really hope it's on the down turn. I left work early yeterday to take a nap and ended up sleeping for 4 hours. I didn't get my soup made, but hopefully tonight I will. I won't run today and I'll see how I feel tomorrow. I'm trying to eat as much fruit as I can although I'm really craving the simple carbs right now.
Have a great day everyone.

Good morning, leaners!
Maria...So :yay: you're here. Yoga class sounds wonderful. I used to go to one and loved it, but it has fallen to the wayside and a need to find another class that I like. Maybe I should get a DVD and try at home.:confused3 Increasing your wogs should bring a change in the numbers :pixiedust:.
Lisa...Sorry about the sore toe. I, too, saw the mention of the green tea in RW (then my son snagged away the magazine...well....it is his subscription:lmao: ). I love that chocolate milk is a great recovery drink. I read that on here a long time ago and it has become my after run drink of choice. Life is Good!
Cindy...Yep, our cross country courses have lots of hills. The course at state is said to be the toughest in the state. I guess that's how it should be;) . Wow, a 4 hour nap! I would say that your body definitely needed the rest. Take care of that cold.
Everybody else...
Yesterday, I got in my 4 miles on the TM. Not my favorite place to run, but I had to get it in:thumbsup2 . I still haven't made my dinner reservations for Jan. We just keep discussing our options:) . I think that since we're going w/o the kidlets, we're just not sure where to go. LeCellier is always one of our favs and I know what our usual must-do's are ,but, what about y'all? What's your favorite restaurant in WDW? Maybe you'll bring to mind something I didn't think about.
Have a good day and stay strong!:dance3:

Favorite restaurant for just DH and I....Cali Grill in the Contemporary. You can't beat the view!!
Favorite restaurant with kidlets...Whispering Canyon Cafe although my DD is getting a little "old" for the horse races!!
I called yesterday to try and get last minute ressies (okay last minute for an anal planner like myself) at Ohana for breakfast and WCC for my birthday dinner and there was zero available at either. :sad1: I was told to try the week before, right before and then when we are at WDW. Perfect. Did I mention my anal plannerness.....

Good Morning all!!!
Re: Pandoroa Jewelry... The Charm bracelet costs $50 and then the charms range from about $25 to... well... on up. I'm sure you can have lost of $$ in then when you are done.
I love Cali Grill too! Yum! The steak is my fav!!!! Dh and I ate at Narcoossee's (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) and it was super nice for a date night. Seemed the lighting is a bit more dim than Cali Grill and the steak there was fabulous as well!!!
I can't believe I going to divulge this, but DH and I are thinking may start to think about starting a family. :scared1: We have some financial things we need to work on, but I'm getting ready to be 29 and I'd like to have 2 kids and I feel like my time will start running out. If any have read in my journal, it mentions that my Doc thinks I may have PCOS and therefore I think it may take a while. Apparently nothing is really clear cut w/ me... PCOS, Celiac, Thyroid... My brother was born w/ Spina Bifida and since that runs in the family, that is another reason not to wait too long as well. That really scares me. DH is ready now, (our neighbors just had a baby so DH is loving visiting them and their baby!) but I want to wait until after the Danskin Tri at WDW next year. So... all of that to say I really have to get serious about this weight loss thing so by the time it's time to try, I'll be at a healthier weight.
Ok...that's enough rambling for me.
I hope everyone has a great day!!!

Morning Lean Meaners!! I didn't get to go out for my run yesterday as the rain got quite heavy in the afternoon. My shoes aren't waterproof and I didn't want to risk getting blisters since forecast says the next few days are suppose to be warm and sunny! I'm hoping it stays that way for just another week so I won't have to bundle up for my 5K on the 19th!
Lisa - I didn't know that about Green tea and post-run soreness. I'm glad though because I usually drink about 2-3 cups every day anyway. I was a little concerned because I noticed that so many products now have green tea extract. Do you know if there's such a thing as consuming too much green tea?
Maria - I've always wanted to start yoga. I got as far as buying yoga clothes... I wish our workplace subsidized exercise programs. Let me know how it goes!
Cindy - Thanks for the birthday wishes! Yes, it was my birthday cake. I actually ended up with a couple of them. Part of me feels bad letting them go to waste - the other part of me feels bad eating them and letting them go to my waist! :rotfl: Hope you're doing better today!
Tracey - Some of my favourite restaurants are Kona, Boma, Cali Grill and Chef Mickey's.

Good Morning folks!
Just wanted to throw out a warning - I went to the "sparkpeople" site, signed on. My husband says that we are now getting spam e-mails that we have never gotten before - we do not know if the two are related, but it is suspicious. I also found that their calorie counter did not have anything in it that I was eating! It did not have much choise in cereal, and all their cereal was paired with toast - I do not eat toast with breakfast. For lunch I had a peach and some cashews - could not find either on the list!
Scott and I have been using chocolate milk as a recovery drink after races for awhile. When you are not at home, it is much easier to access chocolate milk than making a smoothie!!! If we are driving to a local race, we keep some in a cooler in the car for when we get back, otherwise, we have some in the fridge of our condo to drink when we return. Our pre-race meal is always half a bagel with peanut butter and a banana.
Because we are DVC members, we rarely eat out any more at WDW. When we do, it will more likely be counter service, one of our favorites is Earl of Sandwich at DTD. Lately, we have also been hitting Rainforest Cafe. Some of our old favorites at Epcot are Marrekesh (sp), Rose and Crown, and Mexico. One of our very favorite is Food and Wine Festival booths!
Have a great day!

Good morning Lean and Mean Team.
We are counting down the days till the ToT trip. Can't wait, I'm so ready for a vacation. It's been a long tough year for us with Erica's bunion surgery and recovery. The economy will probably suck for quite a while so we might as well go hang out at the mouse house for a while. I hear the beer is good there.
Remember we are having a party at the Boardwalk Villas small pool after the ToT party at the Disney Studios. Stop by on your way back to your rooms and say hi.
I bought a Stick for my birthday and will see if it does better than my rubber rolling pin from WalMart. It will travel easier anyway, I got the marathon version.
Have an awesome day y'all.

Quick run by...
I'll chime in on Boma's at Animal Kingdom resort. We ate dinner there last January after finishing the marathon. Waaaaaay tooooooo maaaaaannny chooooooices. I must have gone through that buffet line three times, maybe four. Food was really flavorful, and plentiful.
I tend to stay away from those fillers like salad, starches, and dessert, and just concentrate on the entree's. Wheeew, was I stuffed!
So even though I Goofy'd, by the time I got home after 15 days at WDW, I gained weight. :rotfl:
Other sit down dining places I like are the Yachtsman Steakhouse, Spoodles, Narcoosee's, Hoop De Do Review, The Brown Derby, Earl of Sandwich, and Fulton's Crab House. Give me more time, and I'll think of others.

We tried Yak and Yeti when we were at AK for EEC. My son and I both liked it alot. We also like the food at Kona cafe, but there's not much to the atmosphere. Maya Grill at the CSR is also a good place that alot of people don't know about so you can usually get a ressie. Someone told me that the Captain's Grill at the Beach and/or Yacht Club has very good food at a reasonable price. We have a ressie to go there during our TofT trip.

Hey Lean Mean Brigade!
Hmm. Another stonker with a co-irker today. I need to learn to just pay my mortgage and let it go.
The number of pounds I need to lose is less than 100 and more than 20, so I guess I'm a "medium loser". I'm just grateful I probably don't fall into the Biggest category, but I'm sure I have at some point. That's what I love about WISH. No matter where you are on your journey -- someone has been there, someone has left there far behind, and someone is behind you looking for hope. And we all inspire each other!
My favorite restaurants at WDW are Boma and Spoodles. We'll probably end up trying the Maya Grill in Jan since we'll be staying at CSR, so hopefully I'll have another favorite.
Stacie -- Best of luck with the family planning. There are great joys in having kids at any age -- younger, older, or in the middle. I was an in the middle mom, 29 when my ds was born. It's interesting because there are moms of classmates who are 10 years older and 10 years younger, but we all seem to do alright.
Ok, gotta get the kidlet on the move...

Favorite restaurant?? That is a tough one. I love Boma and Le Cellier. Kona Cafe (tonga toast).
Thanks for all the additional protein rec's. I am making my grocery list! And the Magic Bullet recommendation (Tracy and Lisa)
Maria She is totally running me ragged! I am thankful everyday that I have made the commitment early this year to get in better shape. Running has also made for more boo-boos. She fell at daycare today outside and scraped her knees. :sad2:
Stacie Thanks for the bike info. It is so exciting and scary at the same time to think about having kids. I was 30 when I had DD. I felt like it was the perfect time. I hope to have DC #2 by the time I am 35.
FINALLY had a one pound loss...I am hoping this is the beginning of the drop off of my month long plateau. Only 5 to go before TOT!
Craptastic run tonight, I was having some major shin pain in my left leg that wouldn't go away with walking and additional stretching after the first mile. I quit after 30 minutes but at least I did something. I am in dire need of new sneakers and I wonder if this pain might be somewhat related.
On an exciting WDW planning note, I was able to add a 3rd night to our stay at ASmusic for 54 dollars!! Our first 2 nights will be at CSR. No dining ressies yet though.
Amy
Have a good night everyone!

Hang in there team WISH. Keep going with the repetitions, the miles, the minutes, the agony, the pain. The longer you stick with it, the easier it gets.
With that in mind, I cranked out 10 miles up, around, and down Diamond Head Crater again. I hydrated and fueled better, and had a very good run. 8:34 average per mile.
Have a great Aloha Friday everybody.

Lisa...I tend to be pretty anal myself, this is why it's so strange that I haven't made ressies yet. So, where will you be celebrating your birthday dinner?
Stacie...how exciting that you're thinking about starting a family. I had my first baby at age 24 and my last at 36 and there are advantages to having a baby at any age and yet, there is no perfect age.;) Thanks for sharing with us.
Vicky...:bday: belated! I love Boma, too, but we haven't tried Cali Grill yet.
I have heard that too much Green Tea can be hard on your intestinal system.
Lynn...I've heard the Earl of Sandwich is really good. Do you have a favorite there?
Panda...Ohhhhh, we have "the stick"! At least one of us says every week that it's been one of our best purchases ever!;)
Jeff....Aloha!Let me say, that when you say you took a Diamond Head Crater run....I feel really envious! I'm so happy for you, but so sad that I had to run on a traffic infested road! Like you always say, "Someone has to live there, it might as well be you!":goodvibes
Jeanne...We've eaten at Captain's Grille and the food is really yummy!
Margie...Oops, I should've clarified, my 5lb goal is for the month of October. I'd like to lose another 15lbs after that. I just wish it was easier;) .
Maria...sorry about co-irker problems again.
Amy...WTG on the weight loss! It makes it alot easier to keep up with a little runner when you're in better shape, doesn't it? I am thankful everyday when Timmy runs up the hill into the neighbor's yard that I can run up it, too.
Everybody else....
It's a busy Friday here, the dog needs to go to the vet, kids to school, 5 miles for me, the little guy is going to Grandma's (hopefully), loads of laundry, ya da, ya da, ya da! Tomorrow we head to IL for the Border Wars Cross Country Run for DS. Have a great weekend my friends and stay strong!

You all seem busy on this fun friday!
Stacie: Good luck with the baby front! I had my first when I was 30.....so, I don't know the advantages of being a younger mother! I am the old one of the mom group.......let's just say the kids need clarification if I am actually 'mom' or grandma! (just ain't right!) No matter, it's worth all the work and effort! The kids keep me young!
Amy: I don't envy the age......she will run you ragged! It's one of those ages you don't think will ever end......but boy, you will get your workouts in! ;)
Jeff: You just keep speeding along! I envy you.......
Jeanne: How's the marathon training????? I hope things are going well.
Wagon Tip of the Day: Sugar-free jello........I know dumb, but I love it! I feel like I am eating dessert, but it is only 10 calories a serving! I do 'cheat' and get the pre-done cups in the dairy isle.......I like having a ready single serving at hand. I eat one at lunch every day!

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I've been MIA for a while. I posted on page 1 and haven't had a chance to get back until now. Last week, DD9 was sick with a cold and/or allergies. She got better, then DS7 came down with strep throat over the weekend. So far, the baby has remained healthy, and I pray that he stays that way. I promise to read all of the posts I missed, but that might take a while, so I just wanted to say hi :wave2: and let you all know that I still want to be on the wagon!
Congrats to all of you who have lost some weight. :thumbsup2 I don't weigh myself because I hate getting caught up in the numbers. However, I do feel that my clothes are getting a tiny bit looser, and even my DH commented on that the other day. :cool1: Hopefully, I'm headed in the right direction. I still have a hard time resisting junk food.
I see that lots of you are talking about favorite WDW restaurants. Ours is Jiko. Even the kids love it there.
I hope to catch up more soon. Sunday is my very first race and I'm extremely nervous, so if you have any words of wisdom or some race pixie dust, please send it my way! Thanks. :goodvibes

I went out for a quick 3 mile run yesterday. My foot held up and I think it might be getting better! Yay! I'm planning on running tomorrow and Sunday so we'll see what happens.
Julie - I'm another person who doesn't bother with the numbers either. Actually since I started running, I haven't actually lost much weight but I have gone done a few sizes! Good luck with your race this weekend! I usually find some people to chat with before the race starts. It usually helps with my nerves. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do great!
Jeff - Did I just read you skipped the desserts at Boma?? Just kidding!!
Amy - It could be the shoes. I got knee pain from running in an older pair of sneakers during the summer. Apparently I forgot that I run like an elephant and so the cushioning on my shoes tends to go quickly. Won't make that mistake again :goodvibes
Dave - I love my Stick!
Stacie - Good luck with the family planning! I don't have much advice to offer since I'm not a mom yet.
Jeanne - I have a lunch ressie for Y&Y in January. I'm glad to hear you liked it :)
Have a great weekend everyone!!

I'm not a "sweets" person as far a desserts go. Ice cream yes. Cakes, pies, etc. no. An occassional creme' brule' or chocolate moose, but only if I'm in the mood.

(didn't wear a watch), Jake ran a 16:29-5K at his race:banana: , DH and I went out to Maggiano's for dinner (super yummy, but WAYYYYYY too much food), and then didn't feel like doing my long run on Sunday, but went ahead and did 6 1/2 on the treadmill in 67min (that's a long time to be on a TM, but I watched The Notebook to pass time.) Today, it's Pilates, Girls on the Run, and a step class along with :laundy: , and cleaning! busy, busy, busy
Have a great day everybody! Check in so we know how you're doing.

Good morning Meaners. I am a little slow on the draw this morning. Feeling a little  with a stomach virus my kids were kind enough to share with me. It came on yesterday in the middle of my 8 mile run which turned into a run/walk but I made the full 8 anyway. I have lost 2 pounds in the last day due to lack of food but I am keeping up my fluids and even adding in a little Smartwater and Accelerade to keep up the electrolytes.
On the whole, I have lost 1 pound which is monumentous now that I am down to the last 5 (or 4). So :woohoo: happy dance for that. I still need to clean up my eating a little. Snyders hot buffalo wing pretzel pieces are my downfall right now. I have to portion them out or I will eat the whole bag!! popcorn::
On Friday we met with our friends who did ToT with us last year. We reminisced about how we were in the final planning stages at this time last year. They are headed to WDW with their DD in February for the field hockey showcase. My DD is too young/too old for the teams going. It will be 3 more years before we can all go together again. Unfortunately, it may be our only trip together again for awhile. :sad1: This time it is with family. Wish me luck!!
Anyway, we went out to this awesome local restaurant with all organic local foods. I had portabella mushroom ravioli that was to die for. Oh and most exciting of all they put blueberries in my blueberry beer....love that!!! It was a great meal and just the right portion size. My DF had harvest ravioli that tasted like pumpkin pie inside!!!! Yummylicious food.
So, I am eating a little today, drinking a lot of good water and green tea with and without peppermint and hoping for a 3 mile run this afternoon. It is raining here still but pleasantly warm. It is supposed to snow while we are in WDW according to Accuweather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1: :scared1: My mom will be so ready to leave it will be scary!
Julie: :cheer2: :cheer2: Good for you but, yes, details.....
Margie: Hang in there. I hope you are feeling better still!
Bunnyfoo: Yay for getting better for you too! I hope you got your runs in.
Ice cream: Not a huge fan of sweets in general, except cheesecake...popcorn::
Connie: How goes yourself and DH?
Everyone take care and I hope to read your reports on fantastic weight loss soon. Keep working hard and we will make it there together! :grouphug:

Hi Everyone! Glad to see new faces and former faces. I was going to say old, but we dont' all fit in that category! Especially me!
This is just a drive-by, I have read your posts and I wish I had time to answer each one, but let me say, I envy making WDW and race plans, I am happy a baby is being planned, I hope you are all doing what's right for you! Just know that I am thinking of each of you.
DH had back surgery on Wednesday. He came through just great. Since he can't lift, bend, twist, push or pull anything, much of our care rests on my one shoulder. (Gosh, I hope IT doesn't fail!) He should be fully recovered in just 6 weeks. Somehow, that just doesn't seem fair to me. :confused3 I am in PT and I don't much care for it. Right now, it is all passive but I don't really like it. I think I could take my Physical therapist and her assistant in a fair fight with my one hand held in a sling.......but then who would take care of DH??? Gotta go! :grouphug: I miss you all.

Hello Meaners! Quiet around here, huh? I have been lurking and not posting......but have been doing well!
Connie: Nice of you to stop by! We missed you! How is your shoulder doing? I hear ya about PT......never sure if it's helping or not! Hope your dh does ok from the back surgery. You two are a pair, huh?
Lisa: How are you feeling? I saw that you were not feeling well......PD for you and the family!
Funwalker: I wish I didn't like ice cream! :headache: I never ran into an ice cream that I didn't like.......oh, I take that back.......teaberry! Yuck! But I think that's the only one in my 42 years that I didn't like!
My motivation to get this weight off has been carrying me through! I lost 7 so far......not bad! I hope to continue the streak!
Wagon Tip of the Day: Green tea. It's supposed to excellerate weight loss by increasing your metabolism. I do know that green tea is packed full of good anti-oxidants! So, bottoms up Lean Meaners!

Good going on the miles and minutes hitting the pavement everyone. Keep it up!
86 days to the family 5K, 87 days to the start of the Donald Duck Half marathon, and 88 to the Mickey marathon. I hope everyone's training is right on schedule. If not, here's a swift kick to your okole (rear end) to get it in gear.
If your nursing injuries, get well, and train smart. Don't overdo it and show up unprepared on race days.
As for me, I followed up Sunday's cruddy 20 mile run, with a excellent Tuesday 10 miler. 8:25 average pace. We skipped Diamond Head today, since the sun is setting much earlier. Not fun running in the dark, wondering if there is a crack or pothole in the sidewalk to trip or fall on.
Have a great week team.
P.S. Where did everyone disappear to???

Jeff...that's for the encouragement and reminders to keep on schedule. Sometimes, it would be easy to just put it off, but I feel so much better when I stick to the plan. :yay: for an easy 10 miler.
Lisa...hope you're feeling better
Beth...WTG on keeping those 7lbs off!
Connie....hope DH is still doing well and that you're feeling better, too. It's hard to be care-taker, especially when you have your own injury.:)
I ended up doing Pilates early Mon, followed with running with my girls at Girls on the Run (for an easy 2), and then step class at night. Yesterday, I didn't feel like it, but got my easy 3 1/2 miler in. Looks like the scale is moving again, but I'm not counting on anything for sure.

Hi guys!
How is everyone! I'm still around too. Mostly just doing the same ol stuff. Working, working out...
Hopefully tonight I'll get in my walk w/ my mom...supposed to be 40 minutes. I've got 5 miles on the books for my LW/R this weekend.
Last weekend I did 4 miles. You know my plan has been to walk it and then each mile run 2-3 min. Well, on Sunday it was getting warmer outside and I was so ready to just be done w/ my workout so I did 3 spurts of running that last mile! Shows me it can be done. By the time the Half is here, maybe I'll run twice each mile instead of once. We'll see... I want to finish strong.
Marathon question... We are staying at the Poly on Fri / Sat night. I know the course goes by the Poly, but didn't know if I would be able to walk out and cheer folks on. Anyone know?
I think that's about it for me.
Happy training!

I am still here, just have not gotten onto the computer in a few days! Got back into exercise routine this week after very little exercise last week - started with a 6 mile dog walk on Mon, yesterday did 4 mile walk and some floor exercises, today I plan on another 6 mile with the dogs - as long as my knees hold up!

Stacie
Stacie: great to be hearing from you again. The Poly is one of the BEST places for cheering the marathon. First you can walk to the TTC which is around Mile 9. Then you just walk across the front of the hotel and out to the side there is a section of road just before Mile 13. Then you just hop on the monorail and you can meet people at the finish line. I think for the half marathon the TTC is around mile 4 and the Poly is just before 8, but that's off the top of my head. There are always lots of folks cheering at both places including many WISH scream teamers.

Great Jeanne!!! Thanks. I wanted to sign up to be a volunteer, but after doing the Half the day before and w/ DH's sporadic training, I didn't know what kind of condition we would be in to be getting up at 4am again! This way I figure we can sleep a bit later and even if DH doesn't (can't lol!) get up, I can walk over and do a bit of cheering. Plus, we are leaving on Sunday so we'll have to get all packed up and everything...

Unfortunately I was laid off from my job today. I knew it was coming at some point this month or next, so mentally and financially I was prepared, but it still sucks. The good news is the severance was what I expected, so I will be able to be at home through the holidays. Jobs are few and far between in my field around here and with the housing market such as it is, we're stuck. In january I will probably put my bachelor's degree back to use and go to work in a clinical lab, probably part time.
For now I can enjoy some quality time with DD and hopefully get some more workouts in. And since our TOT trip next weekend is pretty much paid for, we can still do that. All her daycare teachers were so sad to see her go today. But it makes no sense to keep her there (and spend 800 dollars a month!) when I am not working.
That's all from here.

I thought I'd drop in an give an little update. I ran a long run as part of my training for the Marine Corps Marathon this past Saturday. I ran it in 3:12:02 for an overall pace of 9:36.
I took a few days off to recover and ran again tonight, my first run sine the 20 miler. I ran 10 miles tonight in 1:26:21 for an overall pace of 8:38.
I also wanted to report that my weight has dropped a bit more weight. I am down 18.5 since the end of May. It fluctuates a bit, but that is what it was earlier tonight.
Keep up the great work. I'll keep everyone posted.. the Marine Corps Marathon is just 10 days away! :scared:

Good morning Meaners.
:grouphug: to you all. I have been very MIA but I am hoping to find some regularity in my life after the ToT trip. It has just been a whirlwind of field hockey, soccer, half marathon and the trip. :sad2: Of course, then it is the holidays, DD birthday and on and on.
My eating has been okay, not great but okay. I have managed to lose another pound so that is 2 down and 3 to go. In a week's time that is a near impossibility for me but I packed my bikini anyway. The Accuweather is calling for rain for the ToT race but it is still early and things may change (hope, hope, hope).

Who killed this thread??? LOL.
Creativebeth
10-17-2008, 08:29 AM
Okay, I will try this one more time.......please tell me that it isn't me killing the thread everyday!:headache:
So, the family is all on board for this weight loss thing......my dh is trying the Special K diet for two weeks, and I thought it was going fairly well until this morning when I found a Quarter Pounder container in the trash. WTH! I am trying my hardest with him, and he sneaks out late last night to McDonald's??????????? I haven't been to McDonalds for about a year (oh, I take that back, probably 6 months) and he goes out behind my back for a cheeseburger?????? For awhile I was mad......but now I am glad he didn't tell me, because I probably would have fallen off the wagon and joined him! I was starving last night. I am trying so hard to be good, a trip to Mickey D's would have blown me out of the water!:scared1:
I guess the Special K diet isn't working so well for him......he has a hard time controlling himself when he is hungry, but he thinks he HAS to be hungry on a 'diet'......a very vicous cycle. I try to get him to be reasonable, but it never works. I found him eating one of ds#2's breakfast donut sticks.....ds#2 is the only one who is thin and needs his sugar in the morning. (can't seem to break the habit with him, but I do add a fruit with it)
DS#1 has lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks and is very proud of himself. I did share the Mickey D's story with him this morning, and all he did is shake his head......
Weight loss is such a struggle......but the only way to understand that is to be the one struggling! My dh thinks it's 'easy' for me to watch what I eat......sort of second nature.......boy, he is wrong! It's a moment to moment struggle. I am an emotional eater.....and sometimes its the hardest thing in the world to say no to something I love to eat.......it will NEVER be easy for me.
The other day I had a big ol' pitty party for myself. My sister has never had a weight problem.....she has been 135 pounds forever, with basically little effort. She loves sweets, and indulges the sweet tooth alot. She doesn't gain weight ever! How did she get so lucky?????? How did I draw the short straw on the genetics?????? I get mad that I can't eat what I want, when I want to!!!!! :headache: :headache: :headache: But, then I came down off that high horse and determined that maybe it makes me a stronger person......(give me a break! i have to say something to myself!) Ready to handle my emotions without a crutch! Well, maybe not all the time, but most of the time!!!!! Maybe I understand myself better due to the struggles I have overcome....... I guess it's just a thought! :confused3
Well, to all my fellow Lean Meaners, that the thoughts of the day!
Beth

10-17-2008, 08:44 AM
Beth, hang in there girl!
First up, my DH thinks that eating healthy is second nature to me too. He does not realize that I make a concerted effort to do so. He just thinks that I would rather have an apple than a cookie! He is also the one who lost 50 pounds on the SBD and then has gained about 30 of it back because he reverted to stopping at the local convenience store for lunch and a soda. He went back to white bread and even though it is diet soda...well he just does not understand how that weight came back. We had a long heart to heart this weekend about his poor choices. He was standing talking to his mother at the bar and one of the kids had some chips in their plate and he just reached down and ate them. I asked him if he was hungry and he just looked at me with a mouthful of chips. Yep, choices baby, just choices. Men drop weight faster so I think it hard for them to understand the effort we have to put forth.
Second, I was THAT sister until I hit 30. Then all of the sudden it was not so easy anymore. I think you will find that you sister has some hidden habits in order to stay thin. Keep that channel tuned!!
And thirdly, kudos to you for putting your family on the healthy lifestyle track. You should never look at this as a diet. You DH should be on the Special K healthy eating plan not diet. People have preconceived ideas of the word and a severe avoidance to it. If your DH was hungry, he should have been a little more honest with you and himself, lets face it. But, I do want to point out that anger, stress and guilt all are triggers for your body to produce more hormones that cause weight gain. Temporary as it may be, it is still a bad thing. Breathe deep and let it go.
So here are MY tips for the day:
1. Anger, let it go. Learn to work around your anger. If you are mad at someone, do something especially nice for them and let the guilt be on their shoulders instead of the anger on yours.
2. Nagging, let it go. Try simple one word suggestions or brief explanations instead of long winded speechs. Or, the alternative is to just do it yourself. You will feel better and the world around you will to. None of us like to be nagged...right...
3. Depression/guilt, let it go. Keep a smile on your face purposefully just to ward off those ill feelings. Happy thoughts everyone!! :flower3:
I believe Dave had a blog similar to this. If you are in a bad mood and have to answer the phone, smile before doing so. If you are angry at your spouse, smile before you talk to them (this drives my DH crazy!!). Your kids, well deal with them as you must. Right now my DS is in his rebellious years and I am having a particularly hard time with his personality. I am down to one word and then time out, first time every time. So far so good, knock wood.
Everyone have a super wonderful day!!! Hang onto the wagon and it will keep you strong!!! :goodvibes

Wise, wise words my friend. You are 100% right! My husband lost 30 pounds a few years ago by 'watching what he ate'.......not really, he didn't eat. He starved the weight off, and to this day thinks that it 'worked'! I think he will never learn! I will try to remember to smile before I confront the mickey d's container!
Emotions are such a trigger for me......thanks for the great tips! I am usually the one hiding my feelings intially, and then eating them later.
I love that your dh's is 'clueless' to why the weight came back. That is totally my dh too! (even though I find the Tastey Kake wrappers in the truck!) He is blindsided that none of his clothes fit! I love it.......not really, but do find the humor in the situation! :rolleyes1

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to post and let Beth know that she hasn't killed the thread. I want to respond to your post with some well thought out comments, but that will take more time than I have this morning. My first response is that it sucks that life isn't more fair when it comes to metabolism, but I think we are likely to be healthier because we have to try at it. I know a lot of thin people who don't exercise and eat fast food all the time. That certainly isn't better. I have to remind myself often to look at how lucky I am for what I do have and not how unfortunate I am for the things I don't have. I think we all go thru similar pity parties from time to time. That doesn't make us bad people.
Lisa - you ROCK. I loved your comments. and congrats on the 2 lb loss.
To everyone else Have a great day!! I hope to get back soon to catch up on all the other posts.

Good morning, all!
Count me in with the others who have to make a concentrated effort to remain healthy.....especially, when the Halloween candy has entered our house. I have refused to open up the candy bags until 1/2 hr. before trick-or-treat time! Then, last night our house was Boo'd! Anybody else do this? You leave candy and a note on neighbor's porches secretly. Tonight it's our turn to leave treats for 2 neighbors. So, unfortunately, we have open candy in the house....the kids are eyeing it up (me too) and they've each had 2pieces except for the oldest who truly is a health nut (he helps keep me grounded and reminds me with words like, "Do you really want that?" ) I reminded myself this morning by trying on different pants in my closet. Even though the scale is moving slowwwwwwly or not at all, my pants are definitely getting looser and I even tried on the next smaller size in my closet and they zipped:cheer2: :cheer2: ! So I'm re-motivated for the day!
My son, the health nut, is really concerned about DH. He made a deal with him last week that if DS set a new PR then DH would walk 3x a week for 20min. Now, if he can only stop eating snacks:confused3. But, we all know how hard it is and you have to make a conscious decision to eat the apple instead of the Doritos.
This has been a great thread this morning to motivate me. I'm off to do my 4 miles. :yay: Have a great day all.

AMY: First of all, condolences to you on the loss of your job. These are such horrible economic times we are going though and I know it must be a source of great stress for you and your family. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you that the perfect job will come along....and soon!
Beth, Beth.....we are truly kindred spirits. But your story about the McDonald's wrapper made me laugh. I find junk wrappers in John's car ALL the time. I always think that, considering my 'druthers', if I'm gonna find something in the car, far better it be wrappers from Mickey D's rather than another lady's panties! If your hubby wants to sabotage his diet, that's his choice....he can hide the wrappers, but he can't hide the calories, so guess what, girl? YOU win! :thumbsup2
Aren't sisters funny? I have 2 and both were skinny, skinny growing up. I was always the one in "chunky" sizes (anyone remember those?) I've been dieting since I was a young teenager and even though I keep getting fatter and fatter, I DO make healthy choices and I am relatively fit. Well one sister eats whatever she wants and will always be skinny. The other one......the one my hubby used to call the Bangladesh baby because she was so emaciated...is now WAY heavier than I am. She never had to diet when she was young, but apparently did not get the skinny gene that my other sister did. So once she hit 40, she just ballooned up. Now everytime I get really frustrated that my healthy lifestyle isn't doing any good, I just look at my sister and think, "Wow, if I didn't do all that I do now, I'd be even bigger than she is, because she started out skinny." I am convinced that genetics play an enormous role in determining body size and there's only so much you can do to counteract it. I truly believe that most of the people who lose massive amounts of weight and manage to keep it off are those who didn't have the fat gene to begin with. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

My poor Beth! It is not you killing the thread, it's me, lurking! I should be posting instead of reading...well, I should be working out instead of doing either, but... :rolleyes1
Everyone has had great sage words, I would not attempt to do better! :thumbsup2
I'm about to leave on Wednesday for a quick conference in Long Beach, CA. I am excited, but it really is a whirlwind trip. I fly back Friday night -- well, I start flying at 6:20 Friday night, I get back to Boston at 7:40 Saturday morning. I've thought about it, and I'm not going to even try to take workout stuff with me. My hotel is right on the beach, so I do plan to walk. I know there's no way I'm getting on a treadmill in that beautiful weather. Wednesday night I'm on my own, and Thursday I'm catching up with a friend who's been in West Hollywood for the past 5 years. There really isn't much "me" time. :sad2:
I finally made an appointment and spoke to my boss about the colleague who has been "stealing" my tasks (well, the ones that get attention, not the drudge work) for the past 8 months. It was cathartic. There were things she didn't realize she and he were doing, and she also told me she has not been giving him my tasks and when he tries to take them, I should tell him they are my tasks. I feel very empowered. I wasn't sure if she was telling him to do my work, and now I know she isn't, I will not let him do my job -- plus, he does it poorly, so then I get called in to fix what he's messed up. I really feel like a weight has been lifted, and now I can concentrate on getting healthy. I did 4 miles Friday, and it felt great. :goodvibes
I vow that when I get back a few things are going to happen -- I'm totally on track with my training for the Half Marathon, I'm not going to let this guy walk all over me again, and I'm going to eat for fuel, not friendship (thanks, Connie!). :cool1:
Jeanne, Tracey, Cindy, Lisa, Lynn, Mike, Jeff, Dave, Howard, Stacie, Amy and other Lean Meaners -- Thanks for hanging in there and keeping this thread going! :surfweb:
The friend I'm going to visit has been working out at SkyLab (for those of you that are Bravo Jackie Warner fans), and she's lost about 70 lbs. I am going to look like Santa :santa: next to her, but what can you do? :confused3 She also frequents the same Starbucks as Bob from Biggest Loser, and tells me how she runs into him at the grocery store. I am jealous, but I'm also glad because if I was running into Bob on a regular basis, I could not eat the pizza which is sitting in front of me tonight...did I mention dh just got home today from a business trip to Chicago? I did a good job as a single parent, but I don't know how real single parents do it! They deserve all the accolades they can get -- and I just have one child. I don't know how two-parent families with more than 1 do it! Y'all have incredible stamina! :flower3:
Ok, I'm off to eat my pizza and watch the episode of Primeval I taped last night. I had to watch the Justice League movie with ds last night, so now I can catch up on the scifi that keeps me sane...

Good morning!
I went out yesterday and did 7 miles on the semi-busy road that I run on. I had never went that far on this road and did not realize that in the first 1/2 it's 1 mile downhill so when I turned around to head back....yep.....my hamstrings are sore today from all the uphills. I am not sure about my time....it looked like I'd finish in 75min, but the last mile was riddled with an icky tummy, so I had to keep stopping to walk. That's ok though, because I finished.:cheer2: .
DS15 went out for his cross country conference meet on Sat, with a tight IT band and sore knee that are buggin' him. He ended up winning with a 16:52 time. Next, it's on to districts. My heart broke for a young girl who was walking and crying in the JV race. She was having trouble getting air and it just wasn't her day. Luckily, her mom was there and came running with a warm jacket and trying to calm her down. These kids work so hard and, as we all know, some days you give it all you've got and you still can't make it. Last year, the parent in me would have ached for her, this year it's the parent and the runner in me that felt her frustration and disappointment....and then the mom in me just wanted to hug her and make it better.
Maria....Maybe you will get to see Bob:cheer2: . That would be so awesome! Good for you for speaking up to your boss and now you know that she wasn't giving that guy your tasks. Hopefully, this makes things better at work.
Everybody else....:wave::wave: Hurry back! Hurry baaaaaack! (I love the Haunted Mansion)
If I asked this already, please forgive me.....but if my DH wants to see me a couple of times during the 1/2, where should he go and when?
Have a B-E-A-Utiful Day!

Hi everybody! I'm baaaaaa-aaaaack! At least for now.
Beth, you did not kill the thread. It lives!!!!
Amy - so sorry about the job! It sucks. It's hard. It is very difficult to not take it personally. That said, it is usually a good thing in the end! PD, lots of luck and magic! and have fun at Tot!
Maria - Good job at getting to the root of the jerk's problem! :rotfl: Don't let anyone steal your power again!
Sisters can be a blessing....I have heard.
Well, superman (aka DH) has gone off to work because he is both superman and smarter than any physician. A week and half post-op, he is off and running.....he learns things the hard way.
PT is going well, hurts like heck, but going well. I have discovered that if I assume I will have pain after PT and take pain meds, I can avoid the intenxe pain. I was letting the pain get to far ahead of me to stop it. Let's just say, it hasn't been very fun around my house!
Weight gain and loss. I have had neither in a while, but I can honestly say that weight isn't the only measure I need to worry about. Although my weight hasn't changed my measurements have and I can't wear some of my clothes....uhm, most of my clothes. So, ASAP I'm training again. In the mean time I need to remember that food is fuel and NOT frieinds. Why do I forget that????
LOve you all! Make a healthy day! -- Connie

Maria: Sorry, but you can't kill the thread by lurking......tried it and I think I was safe!!!!:goodvibes I am glad to hear that speaking to your boss had good results for you. It sounds like a frustrating situation, and you handled it beautifully! Good for you!!!!! Now, you can get to the task at hand! I hope you have a good trip, even though it's a fast one. That Jackie is really fit, but man, she is disfunctional! (All those on the reality TV seem dysfunctional though) Cool that you will get a brush to fame.....even second hand!
Things continue to go well in this part of the world.....lost 1 more for a total of 8. My clothes feel so much better! (always a good indicator!) I did break down and ate a piece of pizza yesterday since we were out all day at a baseball tournement.....hard to eat well without good things to pick from! But, it was only a slight mis-step and I am back to it! That is the lesson I have learned in my old age.......forgive yourself and move on!

Thanks again for all the good thoughts and prayers! :goodvibes :grouphug:
My 5K went REALLY well this weekend. Another PR, 33:45! :yay: I averaged 10:45 miles! And THREE minutes below what I ran 2 weeks ago in RfTC 5k. I was running with someone who was a little faster, so I think it was a good thing. I was also running in new shoes which seemed to get rid of the shin pain I was having.
On the scale front, I was down 2 more pounds last week, which is great. I am not hopeful for 2 more pounds for myTOT goal. TOM arrived a day or 2 early and I am basking in some lovely bloatiness...Anyhoo...
I have a few easy runs this week in prep for TOT on Saturday!
Take Care Everyone!

Tracey: the easiest place to see you during the half would be at the TTC, then cross over to behind the Poly, then grab the monorail at either the Poly or TTC (probably a better choice) and head over to the finish line at Epcot.
I would avoid Main St at the MK because #1) I believe you need to use an admission to get in #2) it is VERY crowded and #3) if you're concerned about getting a photo in the MK you don't need to be. They have prof. photographers on Main St and also right after you run through the castle.
Once you know what time your corral will start, you can roughly calculate what time you will pass by each of the spots using your pace and the mile map they give out at the Expo. Being a spectator at WDW is lots of FUN!

Good Morning Everyone,
Thanks to all of you who commented on the other thread about my race on Sunday. Having had a day and a half to think about it, I'm doing much better now. I've learned some things from this race which will help me the next time. I realized that it's not the end of the world to have missed qualifying.
I think my big disappointment is because I had already decided I wanted to run Boston '09 because it's on my birthday. I've begun to think that if I run Boston '10 the day before my birthday I can spend my birthday getting a massage and eating guilt free birthday cake. That takes a bit of the pressure off of trying to find another race to run right away.
I'm feeling pretty good today physically - a few aches and pains, but I had a massage yesterday - it hurt alot, but it helped tremendously. I have high hopes of getting back to WW and lose the 13 lbs I need to get to my goal. A friend of mine is joining WW at her doctor's request, so I will have someone to go to the meetings with which I think will help alot. I haven't had much of an appetite since the race, so I am taking advantage of that and only eating healthy foods since I'm not craving the sweets like I usually do.
Amy: Congrats on your 5K PR and the 2 lb loss. Taking 3 minutes off of a 5K is great, nearly 1 min/mile!! I hope you are enjoying your joblessness right now. I've been there myself so I know it can be stressful, but hopefully some good will come from it.
Beth: Good job on losing one more lb. You're moving in the right direction.
Connie: So sorry to hear that PT is so painful, but I'm sure you are making progress which is the important part.
Tracey: Sorry the hamstrings are sore, that just means you've made them stronger now. Super Congrats to your DS for his xc meet. Lots of luck to him at the districts. Hopefully the knee and IT band will cooperate.
Maria: Good luck with your trip. I'm glad things at work have been worked out, now you can concentrate on working out.
Everyone else: Have a great day!!

Good morning!
Cindy, although I am sad you didn't qualify....I think your other plan sounds FANTASTIC!! That would make it a two day celebration!!! :cool1: And congratulations for taking the opportunity to go for Boston! That's a BIG deal in my book and just an attempt is worthy of praise! And you came so close....it's way more than an attempt!
Congrats on that POUND, Beth. A pound is a BIG thing not a little one!
Amy, Congrats all around to you.
Thanks everyone for the extra PD. I really needed it this weekend when I was so down because I couldn't do my race!
I have gained only 5 lbs. Unfortunately, I have lost muscle mass and replaced it with belly fat. I really hate that, but make up time is coming!!!

Connie...how is "Superman" this morning?:goodvibes
Beth.... 1 more pound down  WTG!
Amy....Another PR...you go girl!:cheer2:
Lynn...I'm trying to stick with writing all of my food intake down. It's not my favorite thing to do, but it keeps me from grabbing the last 1/4 of DS2 PB&J sandwich!
Jeanne...thanks for the race viewing advice, I'm passing it on to DH.
Cindy....Glad you're feeling better about the race. I was talking about you at the dinner table last night. My kids were so impressed that you tried to crawl to the line....they said, "I bet everybody was cheering for her!" I bet they are right! Your time is so amazing, not quite what you hoped for, but AMAZING all the same!
Gotta go, it's Science Day at school. Stay strong all!

Cindy: I have so much admiration for you......just thinking about BQ is a big deal, and you came so close......I am positive that it will be yours for 2010! :cool1: :cool1: You are amazing!!!!!
Tracey: I always do better when I write everything down.......but, I hate keeping a food diary. I wish I could do better with that......then you really know what you are eating. Maybe I will try it again.....:scratchin
Jeanne: I know what you mean about siblings.....my two brothers treated me terrible when I was little (and fat). My db#2 used to give me advice on weight loss......"don't eat so much!" Well, let's fast forward 25 years...... he still runs, but he has broken two deluxe treadmills because he is fat! He is way bigger now, and still eating!!!! I would love to give him his own advice...."don't eat so much!" (He would kill me though......he is VERY sensitive about his weight!)
Connie: Hope the pain medicine schedule helps you with PT......so hard to do when it hurts so bad. How's was dh's work day yesterday?
Amy: Congrats on the 5K PR! :cool1: :cool1:
I am feeling good, but I missed my workout yesterday. My ds#2 had so much homework......and he hates doing it. It took forever for me to get him to do it (and alot of my energy with it), I didn't have time for the gym. I should have done my Pilates DVD, but I just didn't have the heart.......yuck. The good thing is that I was right on target with eating yesterday.....which I am glad for.
Hope all our Lean Meaners have a good day!

:rotfl: Thanks for asking about Superman aka DH, Jon! He was sore and pretty miserable. He doesn't have a physically demanding job and does have the opportunity (if he will take it) to lay down and rest. I guess all-in-all it was better to have him back at work instead of bugging me. I just hope he doesn't mess up his back in other ways!
Beth, taking my pain meds has made life much more tolrable and I don't get so depressed. I am remembering to do it regularly to avoid the long days of pain. I don't know for sure, but I am guessing I have all of November for PT in front of me, since all that I do now is passive PT.

Hi Everyone!
I keep meaning to try to keep up with this thread, but it just keeps getting away from me. Anyway,
Tracey - Congrats on fitting into your smaller pants! :cool1: I don't have the courage to try mine on yet. I hope the hamstrings are better today.
Lisa - Congrats on the 2lbs! :thumbsup2
Connie - Glad your PT is going well, although sorry it's painful. Keep taking the meds to stay on top of the pain. :)
Beth - WTG on 8 lbs lost! :thumbsup2
Cindy - Sorry you didn't qualify this time, but I'm sure you will next time. :) Plus your 2010 plan of getting a massage and eating cake on your bday sounds perfect!
Amy - Sorry to hear about your job. At least you can spend lots of time with your DD - she's at such a fun age. I'm sure something even better than your old job will come along soon. These things have a way of working themselves out. Also, congrats on your PR at the 5K! :cool1:
Jeanne - Hi! :wave2:
Maria - Enjoy walking on the beach! :goodvibes
Hello to the rest of the Lean Meaners also! :wave2:
I ran a half marathon (my very first race) a week and a half ago. The race was awesome - I really had a lot of fun! But, my first few runs after the race were terrible. :scared1: My legs just did not want to cooperate and I felt like I was moving in slow motion. Thankfully, I seem to be getting back to normal. I ran 7 miles this morning at my normal pace. My eating, hoever, is terrible. I have no will power! I'm thinking I should start keeping a food diary because it might help me to make better choices. :confused3

:wave2: Hey Team Lean Meaners...
Just checking in to say hi. I lost a fight with a bee last Thursday during my run down Diamond Head. Not good considering I'm allegic to bee & wasp stings.
Typically, I end up with hives head to toe. But the adrenaline from running must have prevented that from happening. Back to the car for some antihistamines.
Fortunately the swelling was minimized to my right thigh. Big red welt, itchy, and swollen. It's not quite gone after 5 days.
I had to listen to my body, and skip my scheduled Sunday 20 miler. It's almost gone, so soon I will head out the office door for my scheduled 10 miler.
Hope you're all doing well with your training. 81 days to the WDW half, 82 for the full.
UPDATED:
Stonker run tonight. My mind said 10 miles, legs said "who are you kidding." Had a difficult time warming up, and wasn't breathing well, kinda like sucking air through a soda straw. Turned around at 3 mile mark, and wogged the next 2 miles. At mile 5 I felt better, and was able to jog another 4. Total of 9 miles, no idea what my pace was.
Hopefully this was the recovery run after the bee sting. Thursday, I'm hoping to get back on track.

Beth...My kidlets have had alot of homework lately and sometimes it's such a struggle. I was trying to help DS10 write a book report last night for a book that I, myself hadn't read. We were both getting pretty frustrated....then of course, I didn't get the extra walking in like I planned on last night.:confused3:
Julie...the hamstrings are much better, thanks, I've just learned a very good lesson about stretching...it's not something I can skimp on. I know the feeling of legs not cooperating, but it sounds like it's gotten better for you.
Jeff...Ouch on the bee sting. Thank goodness you didn't break out in hives. I'm glad you're feeling better. 81 days until the 1/2 :scared1: Oh my gosh!
It truly is crazy, busy around here. I'm soooooo ready for the weekend.:) Take care all.

Tracey: I hear ya! I actually have been reading ds#2's book with him. He has to write down questions about each chapter and it's really hard to help him when I don't know the story! Sigh......thought I was done with the 5th grade (and I can tell ya, I am not smarter than a fifth grader!) We did get the homework done in time last night to make it to the gym! Yeah!
Jeff: Wow, you were pretty lucky with that bee sting! Could have been much worse! I have been lucky with the kids that they haven't been stung, but with them having so many allergies I do keep and epi pen with me.
Connie: I hope PT goes well for you, and you are back out there soon!
As I said, I was able to make it to the gym last night (thank goodness) and got 6.5 miles done on the elliptical! Felt pretty good........I have been nursing a sore glute muscle for a couple of days (sitting injury during b-ball tourney this weekend end  ) The boys actually played racket ball for the entire time......and seemed to get along and didn't try to kill each other (remarkalbe for them)!!!

I yacking away too much! We still clocked an avg of a 15 min pace. Not too bad. I could tell I was slowing there that last mile.

Okay, so how bad do I feel that I didn't even know there was a new thread??? And it's 10 pages long??? And don't ask me about my lean, meanness or training.
I'm sorry about the cross-posting, but I wanted to try and catch a lot of people.
Hey folks. Remember me? Or did you miss the dramatic exit I made a while back, announcing that I was ready for my close-up with Mr. DeMille? Dang, I knew I should have overacted! Or at least told you more about the drama in my life. ;) Ah, too late now. Such things are better left on the editing room floor.
First, I want to let you all know that I've been thinking of you--and to thank you all for thinking of me. I haven't even been lurking here, but I know you've been sending PD my way. I can feel it. I miss all your grand adventures, the running, the commiseration and support, the funny stories, and just hanging out.
I keep planning on coming back, apologies in hand (and running logs, too). But I can't seem to find the time and energy. No big crises, just ongoing professional and personal nuisances. I'm just overcommitted and in an environment that's not very healthy for me. And even my training has fallen off. The horrors! So I'm at a professional crossroads and will be for the next few weeks. And me without my compass and roadmap! Where are those Girl Scouts when I need them? :rotfl2:
And I wanted to let you all know that I'll be trying to adjust my life to get more balance in it. And you can read that as "spend time on the DIS time with friends." The first step is that DOOD and I put ToT back on our roster at the last minute. We might be DLF, but we'll be there. And I'm planning on that change in our routine spilling over into DISing when I get back. That's when I'll catch up with all of you and your lives, which are all much more interesting than mine.
In the meantime, if you still have spare PD, keep sending it my way. Oh, and a winning lottery ticket wouldn't hurt.

I've been totally enjoying my time off with DD. It is a little bit of insanity at times, but I wouldn't trade this this time for anything. It is priceless.
With being at home, I am struggling a bit with the eating. I find myself getting caught up and busy with DD, and lunch usually goes by the wayside. So I end up snacking in the later afternoon, which ruins dinner. i am hoping to get into a better routine once weget back from TOT. Did i mention the only things DD will eat are grapes, bananas and goldfish crackers?? :confused3
I had a good walk tuesday, and a great TM run yesterday. Hope to get pilates in today.

Good Morning Team!
Lynn, aren't you and Scott doing Dopey or Dumbo? :confused3
Scott is doing the Dopey (all 3 races), I am just doing the 5K and full marathon - I did not want to jump from 1/2 marathons to the Goofy in one step like he is, so for me, just the full this year - who knows, I might be talked into the Goofy for 2010 with the rest of the group! But right now, I am wondering what I got myself into doing the full marathon!
And I wanted to let you all know that I'll be trying to adjust my life to get more balance in it. And you can read that as "spend time on the DIS time with friends." The first step is that DOOD and I put ToT back on our roster at the last minute. We might be DLF, but we'll be there. I think you will have alot of company at the back of the pack - my training has not been very good lately, and although Panda Dave thinks he will keep me up with him, I am thinking that his pace might be a little fast for me right now!
On the positive side, Scott and I have decided to do weight workouts together in the evenings - using that bowflex collecting dust in the basement - when we get back from TOT! This should help both of us get in better shape for the marathon weekend! I will also try that food diary idea when we get back, if it will help me avoid the holiday junk food, that will be great!
See everyone in a week when we get back!

Hope all you ToTers have FUN!!! It sounds like a blast!!!
I'm just popping in to say HI!
Deb...Glad you are back!!! You have been missed!
On the training front, I got in my 45 min walk yesterday w/ my SIL and then I told her to call met this morning when she went and so I was up and out w/ her again this morning at 5am. I didn't like to do back to back training, but since I've scaled back to walking instead of running, she and I can do it together, my body reacts better on these back to back days and I think my time is the same if not a little faster. I can do 5 miles and not be dead afterwards and still go on to have a normal day. lol! Let's hope I feel the same way after 8/10/12 and 13.1 miles!!! :)
Seems like most of us here are facing challenges of personal, professional or training crisis... I am getting in my training..somewhat, but the weight loss just isn't happening. My work is stressing me out, my hair is still falling out, there have been no firm diagnosis on my health so...I'm just focusing on the 1/2 Marathon and having a great trip. I'm hope to lose a few lbs before then, but if not... Oh, well. I'm tired of stressing about it all the time. Please do not see this comment as me giving up, I am trying to eat healthy and make healthy choices, but I just feel like it is consuming me and I can't let it do that. As I've previously mentioned, we are thinking of starting a family so I am definately focused on eating right and being healthy. I'm trying to cut out the caffeine already and get in more H2O.
I'm trying not Wish this year away, but I cannot wait for the Half Marathon trip to get here and then prospect in Feb of me starting as a PT Water Fitness instructor is very exciting. Only 1-2 classes per week, but hopefully it will work out and they will hire me.
So...on that note, I want to tell everyone how proud I am of you. You all keep pushing forward and trying to make a difference in your life and those around you and you should all be very proud of yourself. I am happy to "know" you and can't wait to meet those that will be at WDW for Marathon weekend in Jan.
Take care y'all!

Good morning, EVERYONE!
Pixie Dust to us all!
I went to the doctor for my 6 week post-op review. My shoulder is doing just great, everything looks just fine........except I have to do passive physical therapy exercises for another MONTH!!! A whole MONTH!!! I can't believe it. Seems like this is an ongoing, never ending thing here! At least, I don't have to drive 50 miles to the PT twice a week. I get to do it at home. Since I have had little to no training since the steroids, I am going to incorporate my Physical therapy exercises into a workout routine. At least that part's good. But will I EVER get to move my arm behind my head?? SHeesh, I can't even put my own hair in a pony tail!
Y'all make a great day. Off to pick my arm up and put it down and pick it up and put it down, and .......:upsidedow

Hey Connie,
Glad to hear your recovery is progressing. Hmm, can't put hair in a pony tail. If it were me, I'd just cut my hair, and have a new look  .
Might I suggest a routine of 16 oz. curls? :drinking1

Stacie,
Don't fret, we're all in this together (stolen from High School Musical) :happytv: . Keep up the repetitions, no matter how you feel. Exercise is to relieve stress, not cause you more. Embrace your workouts, and know we're with you every step of the way.
Now, here's a swift kick to your okole, now get out there and get 'er done! :grouphug:

Aloha, Jeff! Cut my hair???? :scared1: NEVER! Well, almost did happen, though. When I was alone (for a 4 days) a week after the surgery and in horrendous pain and taking drugs.....I picked up the phone to call someone to cut my hair when I realized that 1) I didn't know anyone who could cut hair 2) I couldn't drive there if I knew someone 3) I couldn't read the phone book to find someone, anyway and 4) I understood Brittany Spears! NOW THAT was scary!!!!
As for 16 oz curls, still on the pain meds.....have to wait awhile. But I like the way you think!
Stacey, have you seen an endocrinologist? You are describing symptoms of low thyroid function.
Debra, you have been well and truly missed. I hope you can find a calming influence soon!
I am wshing everyone a happy weekend.

Hi guys!
Connie...Yes I have seen one. My t4 was actually a bit high, but the overall levels were normal so she thought I was fine...
Just reporting that I got in my 5 miles in today. I got out there and my garmin was going dead so since I walk in my neighborhood, I charged it for my first mile and then came back to get it.
It lasted my additional 4 miles.
My splits (they are called splits right?):
Mile 1: ???
MIle 2: 14:37
Mile 3: 14:22
Mile 4: 4:37
Mile 5: 14:33
Hope everyone has had a nice weekend and those at Tot and other races had a fabulous time!!!

Mornin' friends!
Anyone back from ToT?
Connie...Sorry to hear you have another month of PT. Scary, and yet funny, story about the hair cutting inspiration! Thank goodness you couldn't read the phone book.:scared1:
Amy...I love being home with my little guy. I struggle with the same thing, in that lunch gets skipped...unfortunately, then I just eat off his plate and that was a bad habit for me to get into. I'm glad you're finding lots of quality time.:)
Beth...Kids are all different, aren't they? My 1st is independent, always gets his work completed and seldom needs help. My 2nd struggles quite a bit and usually requires help with homework, but he loves Science and he's a wiz at it. My 3rd is gifted and the 4th...well who knows, but he seems to be exactly like #1. I really do think I'm going to start reading The Lightning Thief. The more he talks about it, the more I want to read it.
Lynn...I think it's awesome that you have your DH to train with.
Stacie...Can't wait to meet you, too:) . Although, I'll admit that it makes me a little nervous to meet all of these people that I've never met before. WTG on your 5 miles.....that's fast walking!
Jeff....how are things in your neck of the woods?
Anybody else feeling like....I'd rather be in Disney? I finally made some ADR for our trip. We're going to try the California Grill, Le Cellier (our favorite), and Coral Reef (we haven't been since our honeymoon and the last time we were at Disney by ourselves....16 1/2 yrs ago).
I'm maintaining consistency with workouts and ran my 8miles yesterday. I'm still finding that when I'm running over 5 miles, a 9:1 run/walk ratio works really well for me. I don't always need the 1 minute, but it helps. I still feel a little :scared: when I think about 13.1 miles, but if I can do 8, then I should be able to do 13 right? I'm down 3 lbs this month, my goal was 5, so I better get myself in gear.
Have a great day all!

I'm Baaaack! The trip was great, it made me really appreciate my job and the resources I have available. Plus, I got to see Christian Slater filming his new tv show. He looks really, really yummy....not at all what I expected after all the problems he has had. :scratchin
I started Half Marathon training yesterday. I did strength training, and this morning I did 3 mi before work. 5 am comes really early...:scared1: Now all I have to do is keep it up for the next few months, and I won't have to worry about being swept like I did last year. :goodvibes (Clarifying -- I wasn't swept, I earned my medal, I just worried about it way too much!)
Tracey -- I have a ds10 in 5th grade, too! Those book reports...we have one a month, plus extra reports on movies, field trips, etc. Right now we're working on Maniac Magee, and St. Benjamin. St. Benjamin died a terribly painful death from torture, which apparently is quite fascinating.
Stacie -- It sounds like you got a good workout in, even with the Garmin issues. :flower3:
Connie -- Oh my goodness, I understand the hair issues! Every once in awhile I just want to cut it all off. Luckily, that feeling passes, but I get it! :hippie:
Jeff -- Are you overdosing on HSM3? The soundtrack is permanently on in our home -- ds10 could not be more into it. :dance3:
Lynn -- I know you are going to do great with the Full! While ya'll are being Goofy and Dopey, I'll be Grumpy (I think that's what happens when you are in the Happiest Place on Earth and dh refuses to enter a theme park...). :confused3
Beth -- Our last report was on Nim's Island, the movie. DS did a poster of all the animals in the movie, as they were in the movie with facts about their actual lives. Why do I feel like I'm in 5th grade again?! :headache:
AmyK -- Ah, the picky eater years...Actually I am really lucky, ds ate whatever we put in front of him when he was younger. Now he thinks chicken fingers is a food group...sigh. :sad2:
Debra -- So glad to see you again! I'm personally looking forward to your witticisms and random thoughts, which are frankly good team fun! :joker: Plus, your sage advice and unrelenting support are also always gratefully received!
:wave2: to Howard, Mike, Dave, Wendy, Julie and other Lean Meaners!
Everyone have a lean, mean, super clean day!

Hey Lean Meaners.
I thought I posted here yesterday. Apparently I forgot to. My report is on the race report thread. Here's the condensed version.
I was out racing my 30K in the rain. 2:59:05 with soaked feet, clothes, visor, hair, etc. Could have been better, but I thought it would be wise to take it easy and not get hurt by falling, or slipping in puddle.
The keiki haven't gone to see HSM3 yet, and we don't have the CD either. So for the moment, I haven't had to listen to the music whenever we are in the truck. :rotfl:
Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning Everyone,
I have to be quick this morning, because I have to do some work.
Connie: Sorry the recovery is going slowly. Better slow than not at all.
Maria: Welcome back from your trip. Good luck with the half training.
Jeff: Nice job with the 30K despite the weather conditions. So it's not beautiful and sunny all the time?
Tracey: I can imagine that 13.1 mi is daunting, but you're right, if you can do 8 you can do 13.1. You still have plenty of time to train, and once you are there with all the crowd around you, your energy level will carry you thru. Great job with the weight loss. I'm not counting on any this week with all the Halloween candy around.
Stacie: Good job on the workouts. You have to do what you can keep up with consistently, and if weight loss is too stressful right now, you've taken a good approach by just eating healthier and keeping up with your workouts.
Amy: I read your race report on the other thread. Sorry you missed all the WISHers. Glad you finished although slower than you wanted. You stuck with it when it got tough. Good for you.
Beth: Hope all is well.
I got out for a 3 mi run yesterday, the first one since my marathon. My hamstrings were tight, but my knees felt fine which I was worried about because after the race they were sore. I'm going to try to run again in a few days. I'm getting back into it slowly over the next 2 weeks then I'll start training for the Hyannis (Mass) Marathon in February. That will be another attempt to qualify for Boston. I guess I'm not ready to give up on my dream yet. Eating has not been stellar, but not awful either so I guess that's OK.
Have a great day everyone.

Good morning meaners! How goes it? Glad to see some of you back. I have been lazy with posting the last few days......but, never fear, I was lurking!
Cindy: Glad to see that you got back out there! It's a good plan, weaning the miles up again. Your poor hammies needed the rest! :lmao:
Jeff: I hate running in the rain......wet shoes, soggy socks.......yuck! Good for you getting it done.
Maria: So you are in fifth grade too???? :teacher: I keep telling my ds#2 that I already finished the fifth grade!!!! DS #1 did the fifth grade last year with no drama at all......no homework notices, no big deals at all.........flash forward to kid #2, and all h*** has broken out! UGH! Right now he (we) are reading a book about kids competing to climb Mt. Everest. I am having to read along with him, because I am not much help not knowing the book.
Tracey: I only ran 8 miles for a long run before my first half......I was a fool, but I had a great race and had a great time! I finished it with 12 min miles too (and no walking). Still consider it my best race, even though my times improve with training. Just enjoy the journey and then the race itself.....no need for anxiety! :thumbsup2
So, a big shout out for Big Vic (we miss you), Jeanne (how was your trip?), Wendy (how's your foot?), Amy (how's the SAHM business?) :thumbsup2
I have been maintaining pretty well, still 8 pounds down. I am happy with that right now. I would like 20 more gone eventually, but I am happy right now. I got a 7 miler in on Sunday, and it felt good. I didn't push for a fast time, just got the miles done appreciated the REALLY nice day we had.

Good Morning Lean Mean Brigade!
I did my 3mi this morning, and I'm feeling great! It's nice to be mostly worked out before 6 am. I have yoga at work today, so I'm being extra fitness oriented.
I am feeling a little like a slug though. I have a friend who lives in LA, and she is taking a vacation for the next two weeks -- an adventure trek to the Galapagos Islands and then hiking in the Andes. I can't even imagine doing either of those things.
Beth -- The book on Everest sounds good. I am just repeating the English, Reading, Vocabulary and Social Studies parts of 5th grade. DH is in charge of Math and Science! We usually flip for Religion...ds attends Catholic school, so yes, that is a subject.
Cindy -- I don't think you should ever give up on your dreams! It sounds like qualifying for Boston is doable for you, it's just a matter of the stars aligning, which they will eventually do! :wizard:
Jeff -- Wow! 30K! :woohoo: I can't even imagine. You totally rock, especially in the rain!
Everyone have a great Lean Mean Day!

Good morning, friends. I checked in on all of you yesterday, but was lazy and didn't post.
Maria....Sounds like you had a great trip! I love DS teacher, but these book reports are driving me crazy. This scrapbook one had 16, yes 16, components! He has 5 more of these to do this year.:scared1: It is sitting here on the corner ready to turn in, if I can figure out how to post it, I will.
Look at you, Yoga and running in the same day. You go girl! Seriously, does your DH really not go into the parks?
Jeff....30k! Wow! And in the rain! You totally rock! So, do you keep your training up year round that you can run a 1/2 marathon anytime?
Cindy....Hyannis will be your BQ....I can feel it! And...you know this....but, don't ever give up on your dreams, it's within your reach and you know it.:woohoo: :yay: :woohoo:
Beth...The Mt. Everest book sounds good, what's the title. One of my girls at Girls On the Run told me yesterday that I really do need to read The Lightning Thief. When I find out what kind of book he has to read for the next report, I'm gonna check in with you and Maria to see what your kiddos are reading. It's comforting to know that you got through a 1/2 with training up to 8 miles. I'm struggling with doing a R/W combo or running the whole thing. I'm thinking now that I'm just gonna wait and see what I've got in me and do what feels right. I'm training on a really hilly route right now and those walk breaks feel good!:)
Lisa...Are you back yet from you birthday in WDW? :happyb'day:
Amy, Stacie, Wendy, Jeanne, Howard, Mike, Vic, Julie, Deb, Kira, and all our other friends who I'm sorry I missed.....We miss you, check in!
**This is a busy week like always. DS15 won his district meet and the team placed in the top 4, so it's sectionals for the boys this weekend!:yay: :woohoo: :yay: We're having a PR Pancake party here on Friday, to get revved up for Saturday. Then, of course with Halloween, I've finished getting costumes ready, things ready for the parties, and preparing some food ahead of time to freeze for Friday evening for anyone who stops by. Which is why I cheated yesterday and ate 2 (awww, they were little;) ) brownies...with chocolate fudge frosting and Halloween sprinkles. I'll be feeling that sugar in my 4 miles today. Stay strong all and try to avoid the Halloween candy. In St. Louis, the kids who come to the door tell jokes. I hear that that's just a St. Lou thing. Anyone have any good jokes out there?

Hi Lean Meaners!
Busy day today, but I haven't stopped by in a while, so I wanted to say hi.
Cindy - I lost the battle with the Halloween candy too, so you're not alone. I (unsuccessfully) tried to rationalize eating it. I had eaten an onion bagel and didn't want onion breath. So, I had two options: going ALL THE WAY upstairs to brush my teeth, or opening the Junior Mints. Guess what I did...:sad2:
Tracey - I've never heard of kids telling jokes when they come to the door. That's really cute.
I noticed a few of you have mentioned that your 5th graders are reading The Lightning Thief. I've never heard of this book, but I'm always on the lookout for new kids books. Do you think this book would be good for DD9? She's an avid reader.
I've been good at getting my miles in, but I feel like I'm running slower than ever. I'm not sure why. I'm going to try to push myself during my 4 miler tomorrow and see what happens. I also can't seem to find time to get some yoga in to my day. I'm going to try to see if I can do it when DS naps, but it's tough. That 2 hours is my time to clean, do laundry, do any dinner prep I can, etc. I wish I could add a couple of extra hours to my day.
Have a great week, everyone! I'm going to try to pop in more often. :goodvibes

Good Morning, Lean Mean Team!
I did my 3 mi again this morning -- that's 3 days in a row, a definite record for me! I'm scheduled to rest tomorrow, and I feel like I've earned it. :goodvibes
My dh will very grudgingly go into the Parks, but it's not pretty. On our last family trip, he went to Typhoon Lagoon and that was it. DS and I did the Pirate and Princess Party, MK, and Epcot by ourselves. We had a great time, but it felt a little odd. DH does love Universal, and leads the way into those parks. He just does not like Disney. :confused3 Anyway, our deal is if I stick to my training and actually lose some weight, he will spend one day in a Park with me without complaint. Keep in mind he refuses to enter MK and HS under any circumstances, and you'll see my options are limited. Last year we did one day at Epcot, and he was a pretty good sport. I think he just liked Test Track :cutie:
I guess I need to get a copy of The Lightning Thief!I don't want ds to miss out.
Julie -- When you figure out how to add those extra hours, please let me know. ;) I went to bed before 10 last night, just so I could drag myself out of bed this morning. These early workouts are good, but I still seem to need sleep...
Tracey -- I grew up in St. Louis County, and no one I knew was telling jokes -- perhaps that's a more recent development. We were just greedily asking for candy, no time to be entertaining! :rotfl: Congrats on DS's accomplishments, he's keeping you busy with all those wins! I can't imagine a 16 part book report...but we do have the math project from you know where. The kids have $100, and they have to feed a family of 4 for a week. They are not allowed to get fast food. They have to figure out how many servings you get out of everything they buy, to make sure their budget stretches to cover everything they need. This is way too much effort for me, I don't do that with my own family! :sad2: I know it's a great lesson in both fractions and how much things cost, but dh isn't about to help on this one, so I'm being reluctantly pulled into the black hole that is 5th grade math. :teacher:
Cindy -- I have the candy in cupboards in my basement, it will not come out until Friday. That is the only way I have any control. Nov. 1st is All Saints Day, so we can be virtuous and throw out any candy we have left that isn't meant for other people. If you actually find the will power to do that, let me know. It sounds good, but I don't think it will actually happen.
A big Howdy to everyone else! Tell us your Halloween strategies!

Wow, I guess I am really lucky.......I don't buy Halloween candy. We go trick or treating with my dsil and her girls every year. So......I am not home to pass out candy! I don't know if I had it in the house, that I could stay away from it (actually I know that I couldn't).
My ds#1 had to get blood work today.......dh took him. I sort of glad that he did. DS#1 has never had a needle except for immunizations when he was younger. DH just called and said that the big teddy bear was really white and shaky, but didn't pass out! Yeah! I never had a needle phobia, but I guess I am just used to them!
Julie: I believe the Lightning Thief is pretty popular with the younger set. My oldest LOVED the series, but my 10 year old hasn't read them yet. Might be a good choice for your dd. I have decided that I am just consintrating in getting my miles in and losing weight......I will work on speed later......I too have been getting slower and slower, but in turn have been enjoying my runs more lately. I think it's a good trade off for me right now.
Tracey: I think I am getting a glimpse of my future......my ds#2 will be my trial the next 15 years......sigh.....:sad2: I have always called him my 'high maintance' child, and he is living up to the name. Every teacher he has had up till now has told me how 'smart' he is.......well, being 'smart' isn't helping him to be motivated to get any knowledge out of school. He is 'smart' enough to get by with very little effort......and when effort is required, he just isn't in the "mood".......what do you do with that???????? :confused3 He is driving me crazy. At least we don't have a 16 PAGE report due!!!! I think I would go crazy with that!!!!!! :scared1:
Well, I got 4 miles in yesterday at the gym since we had terrible wind/rain storm yesterday.....Wish I could say it was a good 4 miles.......pretty much putting my time in watching the clock.......hate that!
Have a good day!

Halloween candy always shows up in my office after Halloween. I think because people buy the stuff that's on sale. It's tough to resist when people just have them sitting out in bowls on their desk. At home, we usually buy those little coupon books from McDonald's. I know it's not much better for the kids but we do it so we don't have leftover candy sitting around.
Going to work on my stretches tonight and hopefully fix my strained piriformis.
Have a great day everyone!!

Jeff So, do you keep your training up year round that you can run a 1/2 marathon anytime?
I pretty much run year round due to our year round nice weather. 8-10 miles on Tues & Thurs. Sunday's are my long runs. I start at 8 miles, and max out at 22 before tapering for the Honolulu Marathon every December.
Someone previously asked me about tapering for a half, and I said, who tapers for a half? :lmao: I guess 13 miles has become just a jog for me, unless I'm racing for a sub 2 hour time.
My running partner Mushu, heck, she barely trains for the Disneyland Half. She says, it's only 13 miles. :rotfl2:
I did 9 miles yesterday, and our pace was about 8:45, only because I had a charlie horse knot in my calf the last mile and a half. If not, my average pace is about 8:30 per mile for this distance.

After 3 weeks of rest, the knee is still ridiculously painful.

Good Morning Everyone,
Mike: Sorry to hear about the knee. Good luck with the MRI tomorrow. Hope you made it to the pool last night. If not the drink while staring into the fire sounds so relaxing.
Jeff: Sorry to hear about the Charlie Horse. Hope it won't be a continual problem. Good job on your run.
Vicky: Hope the stretches helped.
Beth: Good job getting your inside workout done.
Maria: Good job on your 3 days in a row streak. Enjoy that rest day.
Julie: I'm sure the Junior Mints did the trick. Very clever of you. Do you do any speed work or tempo running? That will be the quickest way for you to increase your speed. In your 4 miler today you could run the first and last mile at a very comfortable pace and run the two middle miles 30-60 seconds/mile faster than that. Or you can do speedwork on the Treadmill. As much as I don't like the TM, it's great for doing speed work. You can really control how fast you are going. Good luck.
Tracey: Congrats to DS for winning the district. He must be so proud. (and you too.) Good luck getting all the Halloween things completed. Fortunately for me there was a party last weekend so I had to have 2 out of 3 costumes ready for last weekend. Last week was crazy, but now this week I just had to finish one costume and make a batch of pumpkin cutouts for a party. I love the tradition of joke telling. How fun that must be. I'm completely blanking on any jokes, but I'll keep thinking about it.
I've been mildly better with the Halloween candy. Just 1 or 2 pieces yesterday. I hope to get out for a run tomorrow. The scale is holding steady which is good since I've been in rest and recovery mode for the last 11 days.
Have a great day everyone.

Good mornin' leaners!
Julie...all the kids in DS class love The Lightning Thief series. My Girls on the Run recommended it too!(I only have boys so I count on those girls to keep me up to date on the feminine side of things:) ) Anyway, the girls also said the "Main Street" series is really good.
Maria...DH and I went to WDW for our honeymoon in 1992. He had never been and had no interest in going, but it was all we could afford (apparently it was alot cheaper then:lmao: ). Now, he loves it and considers himself to be a "Disney Freak" like me. He doesn't ride any roller coasters, ToT, or anything that involves height.....crazy as that is, he loves TestTrack and Soarin'....I don't ask, I'm just thankful that he goes;) . Are you taking your son in Jan.? I think that "Feed a family of four" project sounds kinda cool, but it would be so hard for DS to do. My candy is still bagged, too! Really, no jokes? We've lived here forever and it's all we've ever known. Maybe it's just this area.
Beth...Oh your poor DS and needle issues. My DH is very distraught when he sees a needle and he's a big guy (6'4") he's had nurses tell him that if he starts to go down they won't be able to help.:scared1: Luckily, he always manages to stay upright! Does your school have an enrichment program? Sometimes those kids just really need something that interests them, but it's not always easy to find what that "thing" is. Good luck, this parenting stuff is hard;) .
Vicky...my kiddos love the McD's gift cert's. We don't go there very often and it gives them a reason to go....that's a great thing to give out.
Jeff...I guess if my runs were as beautiful as yours, I might be a little more motivated:) . It would be awesome to get to the point that a 1/2 marathon is no big deal. So, do you run just the 3 times each week?
Mike....so sorry that the knee is feeling worse. Let us know about the MRI, we'll be thinking about you. A drink by the fire sounds awesome.
Cindy....it's always good when the scale holds steady.
I'm in party planning commando mode today!

Morning Meanies!!!!! Back from WDW safe and sound! I know you all missed me lots....right.....
Debra: So glad I met you and DOOD at ToT. You did not seem shy at all. And just to let you know how much we are alike, on Sunday morning, I saw Debra and DOOD in front of us in line at AK, they went to Exp Everest and fast passed, my party went to Exp Everest and rode while I went back to get caffeine and hello, Debra and DOOD were there getting caffeine too!!! Great minds and all you know. Debra, sorry I did not know you were so close behind Scott and I, we could have all crossed together!!!! :goodvibes
I have read through the posts but I cannot say I am caught up so I am going to bypass even trying. Sorry....:worship: (that's me begging forgiveness AND worshipping the great work everyone is doing).
I am getting back into the swing of things after mountains of laundry and unpacking, replacing, etcetera. I swear it is easier going alone even though I miss my little family dearly!! I have been presented with the opportunity to do Goofy and I have to put that under consideration. I will talk it over with DH this weekend and see what we come up with for a plan of attack. I will have to give up CMM or VA Beach or maybe both depending. Either that or I need a better negotiator!!!!! :rolleyes1 So 10 weeks to train for 39.3, what am I thinking??????
I managed to only gain 1 pound while in WDW which puts me back up 4 pounds but who's counting. Oh yeah, me. Back on the wagon.......:dance3:

Hey Everyone!!
Our weekend at WDW was awesome, I loved the race and running at night. Other than a horrible leg cramp at mile 6.5 which I couldn't get rid of and consequently added about 10 minutes more to my finishing time than I would have liked, I did run the entire race up until that point except for water stops. I missed meeting WISH'ers prior to the race :sad2: , due to me having to wait a "friend" to give them their packet.these "friends" totally ditched me during the race, which was not our plan at all, so that sucked. Anyhoo.I did see Debra (didn't know who it was at the time, but based on the pics I have seen in other posts). Debra, I tried hard to catch up but you were TOO fast!! All in all I loved this race.
I am up a few pounds, but eating and exercise have been good this week. My BFF gave me some old jeans she doesn't fit in anymore, ,so I am motivated to get into them.
Lisa Do goofy if you can swing it!!!

Good Morning, Meaners!
I am feeling a little guilty it's a rest day, but I'm really glad, too. I slept in until 6:30 this morning, and that felt heavenly.
I am officially old -- my ds told me he wanted to download "Let's Hear it for the Boy" on his ipod, and I immediately tried to think where I left my Footloose cd. He quickly informed me that it's actually a new song on his icarly cd he just wants to move to the ipod. :sad1: Apparently, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is also a brand new composition...
AmyK -- So sorry about the leg cramp and the less than thoughtful friends, but it sounds like you did have a good time overall! :cool1:
Lisa -- If anyone is ready for Goofy, it is you! :woohoo: I know you would rock the races! I'm glad you got to meet the elusive Debra, some of us were starting to think she's a pleasant mirage -- but now I've seen Jeanne's photos so I know she is real and quite lovely! princess:
Tracey -- DH and I went to Orlando for our honeymoon in 1993, and he vowed to never step foot in Epcot again. He's gotten over that, but subsequent visits to MK and HS have resulted in the same vow, which I haven't had time to work on yet. ;) We had neighbors who originally came from Baden, and now that I think about it, I do think they might have told jokes -- but they were speaking a combination of English and German, so I probably didn't realize what was going on! Why do I have a sudden craving for black forest cake? :goodvibes
Cindy -- All things considered, I'd be happy with those scale results. Now is when the Halloween candy gets difficult for me. Once the bags are open, I have to keep the bowls in the dining room and out of my sight! popcorn::
Mike -- I am so sorry your kneww is giving you so much trouble. :grouphug:
Jeff -- Who tapers for a Half? The rest of us mere mortals that's who! :worship:
Vicky -- What a great idea buying the McD's! I wish I could do that, but we average about 250-300 kids, and I just can't invest like that in Halloween.
Beth -- You win for best strategy to date! Not buying any candy would definitely help with not eating it! I'm sorry your workout was a stonker. I keep telling myself we have to have some of those so we appreciate the good ones...
Julie, Stacie, Wendy, Jeanne, Howard, Vic, Debra, Kira and lurky loos -- Everyone have an awesome Halloween Eve!

Amy....Sorry about the leg cramp, but AWESOME that you kept running up to that point. Sounds like you had a great race.
Maria....I loved Footloose! That brings back so many memories. I tend to be more partial to Gooey Butter Cake:goodvibes .

I am pretty happy today! (even though I was up all night with sick ds#2) Lisa, my ds#2, has the stomach flu thing too. I am afraid that it is heading my way...... I got 5 miles in yesterday, and 8 miles in today! And, I am down 1.5 pounds since last Sunday! Yippee!
Maria/Tracey: I have read The Lightning Thief in 1 day. It was really good. I got caught up into it just like the Harry Potter series. My dh wasn't too happy though.......when I am reading a good book, I become very one minded...... I highly recommend it to everyone!
Mike: Sorry to hear you knee is still troubling you....hope the MRI went better than you hoped! :wizard:

Hye guys! How is everyone???
Mike...Any word on that knee???
As for me... I got in my 6 miler yesterday. I haven't uploaded my Garmin info, but I did the 6 miles in 1hr, 29 min so that is just under a 15 min mile. I was feel pretty lathargic and was struggling for this one. Last Sunday, 5 miler was great, but this 6...not so much. I did try out my new Camelback FlashFlo. It was great! Didn't move around, bounce or anything. :thumbsup2 In 6 miles, It was completely empty too! I did have what I assume are electrolyte issues around Mile 5 and then until I finished. It was warm out, I was hot and then I got chills--all over. This lasted until I finished and even as I stretched and cooled down. I was drinking my Choc milk and having a piece of cheese toast when I was down right cold. I finally decided to go ahead and hop in the shower to warm up. I had a pack of sport beans and Mile 3. Not sure if that could effect it or not.
My arches gave me problems too. Some times my feet are sore, my arches are sore, but this is afer I take my shoes off. This time, I could feel them during my walk and knew they were going to bother me. My left one was so tender all day long. Better today, but I hope this doesn't continue to happen. I had my new Camelback waist pack on and also a new pair of socks. You wouldn't think this would affect your arches, but who knows? The socks were thinner. My new shoes were on back order, but hopefully they will be in this week. Maybe this will help.
Well, I guess that's about it.
Take care you guys!!!

Hi everyone! I think I gained a little bit of weight :( I weighted myself using the Wii Fit over the weekend and it looks like I'm up. I think it's from a busy October - I've been running around and not having enough time to make meals at home. So I've been eating out a lot and even though I've tried to be good, I think that's where the extra weight is from.
Well, I'm off to see my PT tonight to get in a workout and the weather is suppose to be warmish this week so I'll be out running Tues, Wed and Thurs. No more excuses! :)
Maria - That's a lot of trick-or-treaters!!! We get maybe 25 or 30 if it's a good night. And I must be old too because I didn't know those were new songs either.
Beth - Congrats on your weight loss! Hope your DD is feeling better!
Lisa - I think it's awesome you only gained 1 pound while at WDW!
Stacie - Have your tried doing an ice bath on your foot/feet? My PT recommend them when I had some pain in my big toe joint. They were pleasant but my foot felt a lot better afterwards. Maybe it will help with your arches too?
Mike - Hope your knee is doing better!
Take care everyone!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted on the Lean Mean thread in a while. You are not out of mind. I hope you are all doing really well.:thumbsup2
I ran tonight after work. I better get used to running in the dark, huh? I wear a 2" belt made of a 3M reflective material used by firefighters on their helmets. It works great and is very visible to automobiles.
Here are my numbers:
Miles: 7.34
Time: 1:00:14
Pace: 8:12
Splits: 8:33, 8:07, 8:03, 8:04, 7:54, 8:19, and 8:09.
I am happy that I put some good miles in tonight in preparation for the Philadelphia Marathon coming up on 11/23. To address the "Lean" issue, I am officially 20 pounds down since my traing began at the end of May. I ran in excess of 450 miles to make that happen.
Have a great night!

Howard: You are a lean mean running machine! Twenty pounds is great, and the PR's have made it even better, huh?
Lisa: Nice idea to re-do the office.......brightening up our lives, one paint job at a time! My entire house needs painting.....sigh......never enough time in a day to get it all done.
Suzanne: So sorry to hear about your FIL.......such a bad time of year for such a loss......my prayers are with you.
Maria: Where are you???? Haven't heard from you in awhile.
So, I had a lapse yesterday......ate one of mine own homemade CC cookies....didn't really WANT to, it just sort of happened. It was sitting on the counter, all by itself, and the next thing you know I am munching away (happily I might add). :goodvibes I have moved on, and will have a better day today!
No numbers from yesterday......ds#2 was still home sick, and I was there holding down the fort. So far, so good, though......not sick yet! I would probably already have it if I was getting it......but I am extremely tired from taking care of him! Better tired than sick.......

I am also back from TOT race, great to visit with all you folks. I, unlike Lisa, did not even try to read back posts to catch up. I did not gain any weight while at WDW, which is amazing considering all the junk I ate! But we did get in alot of exercise, averaging about 9-10 miles a day! And those are the miles that can be counted by a Garmin - therefore, no inside miles were recorded! We were not at home for Halloween, so we did not have Halloween candy in the house, except for the candy corn that kept jumping in my cart while at the grocery store!
Time to get out for my dog walk, then off to vote! Have a great day everyone!

Stacie....Hope the foot is feeling better.
Vicky....hope the PT went well.
Howard....congrats on that 20lbs...WOW!
Lynn...how was ToT? It always amazes me that we get in so many miles at WDW.
My October goal was 5lbs...looks like I lost 3.5. I feel like I should be losing more quickly and unfortunately, I'm becoming a slave to the scale. I would understand it if I were within 10lbs of goal, but I'm about 18 lbs away:confused3 . Oh well, my November goal is 5 lbs again! slow and steady, slow and steady:) :)
****does anyone have ab exercises that they swear by? I'm looking to target the obliques.
I did my 9 miles on Sunday and it was ok, nothing stellar, and to be honest, I'm not even sure of the time. I started on the River Trail with 5 miles and then had to get back home and did 4 miles there. I was worried about breaking it up, but my son said that as long as I got the miles in, that's all that counts:cloud9: he's my hero. He also placed 2nd in Sectionals this weekend, so on Saturday, he's running at the State Meet for XC....he's so nervous (and I'm nervous for him). Have a great day all!:flower3:

Hi Lean Meaners!
I have just a minute to post, so I wanted to stop by and say hi. :wave2:
Sadly, I must report that I dove off of the healthy eating wagon and right into a big pile of Halloween candy. :sad2: Since DH has taken most of the Halloween candy to work, I am trying to get back on the wagon, but it's hard since Kit Kats have become part of my daily routine.
Congrats to those of you who are keeping the pounds off. I am hoping to join your ranks soon. :thumbsup2

Good Morning Everyone,
Julie: You and me both with the Halloween candy. My solution was to eat so many of them I felt sick to my stomach, I'm not craving them any more. It's probably not the healthiest solution. Good luck finding your way back to the wagon.
Tracey: 3.5 lbs is awesome. Hopefully you'll get 5 for November. Huge congrats to your son for his awesome finish. I can't wait to hear how he does at states. Good job on your 9 miles. I think if you have to break it up every once in a while it's no big deal. It's better than doing just 1/2 of your workout then stopping.
Lynn: Glad you were able to get a lot of walking in at WDW, and not gaining any weight is terrific. I'm sorry those candy corns were so attracted to your cart. They sell the gourmet locally made candy corn in my grocery store. I put off buying them until right before Halloween, but by then the candy corn was sold out and they only had the Indian corn. It's good, but I like the candy corn better. I guess I'll have to wait until next year. Once I've had the gourmet stuff, it's hard to go back to the Brach's.
Beth: Sorry to hear your son is sick. I hope you haven't gotten it. I'm glad you enjoyed the cookie, you do have to treat yourself every once in a while. My problem is that one tastes like having more.
Howard: Great job on your 20 lb weight loss. It really will help your running. Do you plan on running hard at the Philly Marathon?
Vicky: Sorry about the weight loss. If I ate out a lot I'd gain too. I love having someone else cook for me. Yum! Hope you get out for your runs this week. Enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.
Stacie: Seems strange that you would be getting the chills. Sounds like you were hydrated and having a pack of beans sounds like it should be plenty of electrolytes. Maybe you're coming down with a cold? Hope not.
Jeff: Sorry to hear about the pulled muscle, I hope you recover soon.
Maria, Connie, Wendy, Jeanne, Mike, Lisa and all the others: Hello, how are things?
I made it back to a WW meeting this week. It's just the thing I needed. The group leader is fantastic. She had a quote written down something like: If your goal is important enough you'll find a way, if not you'll find an excuse. I'm going to remind myself of that. My short term goal is to track all of my food and stay within my points every day until Thanksgiving. So far I've done 2 days, 22 more to go. That way when I have a piece of pumpkin pie I won't feel guilty about it. My longer term goal will be to lose 13 lbs before my marathon. I plan to post my results here to keep me accountable.
I got out for an easy 5 miles yesterday. I'll run one more easy run, then get back to some higher intensity stuff next week. Then I'll have 15 weeks until my race. That should give me plenty of time to get ready.
Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

So on Monday I told my PT about my weight gain. He thought it might be fluid retention from eating out ... until I told him that some of my shirts felt too tight and I had a jacket that wasn't comfortable being buttoned up. He looked disappointed and said "But you were doing so well..." Then I felt really bad that I let him down. We did a tougher workout and he asked me to keep a food journal which he's going to check on. So I'm back on track and hoping to lose weight or inches by January :)
Btw, does anyone have any ideas for warm breakfast items? Last month, I had swapped out my hardboiled egg for a bowl of instant oatmeal. My PT suggested I switch back to the egg. Thing is... I eat my breakfast at work. So I'm pretty much limited to the kettle or the microwave.
That's it for me. Congrats to everyone who's losing! Keep up the great work :)

Vicky,
I have made egg/cheese souffles ahead of time and then just reheat them at work. I don't remember the exact recipe, I think it's from the South Beach Diet cookbook, but basically it's eggs, skim milk, cottage cheese and some low-fat cheddar cheese. You whip it up and pour it into a casserole dish. It bakes at 350oF until firm ~45 minutes I'm guessing. You can bake it in small single serving dishes or a larger one, then just scoop it into a container for reheating. They are yummy. I'll try to find the amounts of each ingredient and post that later.
I've also just made a scrambled egg in the microwave. Just heat it in a bowl for 15 sec. at a time and then stir and repeat until it's cooked.

I make my egg at home (any way you want) and heat it up in the microwave at work. Easiest for me, and saves alot of money!
Cindy: Sounds like things are on track for you! Training ebbs and flows with me.....right now I am getting my time and miles in, without worrying about how fast I am doing it. It's really working for me right now......for the longest time I was strictly worried about getting faster, and when I do that I lose the joy of what I am doing!
Mike: Sorry to hear about the workout......very frustrating indeed! Keep to it though, and things will get better soon!
Things seem quiet around here......maybe the wagon needs to go check up on some people! Big Vic, Tracey, Stacie, Jeanne, Wendy, and all those I forgot........get in an update soon!

Hi everyone!
Congrats to all the losers of excess poundage ...of which I am one! I have lost a pound a week for the last three weeks. At this rate, I will be wonderful by this time next year!!! :rotfl:
I have had some kind of bug and spent daze (sic) in bed feeling like I could just throw up and never actually doing it.
Breakfast at work.....How about a Jimmy Dean Delite Sandwich? They ar eonly 300 calories with egg white, lite cheese, turkey sausage and something which resembles a croissant. I think they are pretty good and are less than a $1 each. Or you can make your own sandwiches and freeze ahead. Use about 9 eggs scrambled, cheese, any vegetables, and any breakfast meat you like and bake in a square pan (sprayed with Pam) at 350 until set. Cut into 9 pieces and and place on a lightly toasted English Muffin (whole wheat!), wrap tightly and freeze. Just rewarm in a paper towel for a couple minutes and eat!

Howard: Great job on your 20 lb weight loss. It really will help your running. Do you plan on running hard at the Philly Marathon?
Cindy~ Thanks! The weight loss has certainly made my running a little easier and my overall "zone" pace has dropped considerably. I seem to run somewhere around an 8:30 pace naturally these days. Everything else seems slow to me... I know it is fast though. For marathons, I need to slow it down and pace myself. I am indeed running the Philadelphia Marathon on 11/23. I just ran the Marine Corps Marathon (10/26) with an overall time of 4:10:39 (9:27 pace). I am currently trying to fight off some plantar fasciitis (FP) in my left foot. I am taking a few days off to see if it helps. After the Philadelphia Marathon, I'll be running the Family 5K, Half Marathon and Marathon in Disney World in January.  Hopefully I'll be able to drop a few more pounds between now and January... tough to do with Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays coming up.

Just a quick "Hi" today -- I won't be at my desk all day at work, so I'd better post now!
Congratulations to all those losing weight! I was on a great tear, and then I gained 1.4 in Oct. Sigh. I'm not sure what's up with that. Anyway, I'm determined to get the scale moving in the opposite direction this month, just as soon as that Halloween candy is really gone...
I made myself do 3 mi last night, even though I was dead tired from being up too late Tuesday night. I'm on track with my Half training, so I figure eventually the lbs will either leave or become muscle.
Everyone have a great, Lean Mean Day!

Cindy...I think WW meetings are the way to go, they give you that extra motivation. Right now, it just seems like one more thing to squeeze into a busy week. You are so awesome for always giving words of encouragement, thank you!:flower3:
Vicky...sorry about the weight gain, but it sounds like your PT is getting you back on track. I'm a peanut butter toast eater for breakfast, I know it's not "hot", but it's not really "cold" either:lmao: .
Maria...sorry about the weight gain. The good news is that you're keeping track and getting right back on the wagon:yay: . I'm trying really hard to stay away from the Halloween candy, but I have had a couple of PB cups. My DH had made a bet with DS15 that if he set a new PR then DH would give up Halloween candy. Well, at this point, DH is not eating chips, cookies, or candy until Christmas. We are all very proud of him!:)
Beth...I started The Lightning Thief. You're right, it's really good.
I'm staying strong with eating and training and I'm hoping to see (and feel) results this month! Take care all and stay strong.:cheer2:

Poppin in on the Meanies to drop off some breakfast ideas. These are from the flat belly diet book and don't require lots of work. Most can be cooked at home and heated at work.
1 toasted whole wheat English muffin drizzled with 1 Tbsp olive oil anf filled with 1 lg poached egg, 2 slice reduced fat swiss cheese and 1/2 medium tomato sliced. This is 387 calories
100% whole wheat wrap filled wtih 1/2 cup scrambled egg whites, 1 oz feta cheese, 1 diced plum tomato and 10 lg sliced black olives. This is 364 calories
1 toasted whole wheat bagel with 2 T natural cashew butter and a clementine. This is 400 calories.
3 soft corn tortillas filled with 1/2 cup scrambled egg whites, 1/3 cup avocado, 1/4 cup low fat cheddar cheese and 1/4 cup salsa verde. This is 363 calories.
Hope this helps on the warm breakfast choices. I usually stick with 1 cup of oatmeal with some fruit and sliced almonds for my warm breakfast. The souffles sound yummy too!!!
Keep up the great work everyone. And, Howard, jealous of the natural 8:30 pace. I am only down to about a 9:30 on short distances (8-10 miles).

Wow! Thanks so much for all of the great breakfast suggestions!! I will definitely give some of those a try on the weekend! We still have another day or so left of warmish weather so I'm not feeling too chilly in the morning.
Connie - We don't have Jimmy Dean - the joys of living in Canada. We usually miss out on the good stuff but I like your idea of freezing sandwiches!
Howard - I'm wishing I could run that fast naturally :) I think that's awesome!
Tracey - PB is one of my weakness! Natural PB is my favourite but a little messy sometimes.
Lisa - I was eating oatmeal with nuts but my PT said I should stick to my egg instead. I thought it was a good choice but I think he wants me to cut down on the carbs.
Maria - WTG on getting out there for your 3 miler!
Stacie - Good luck on getting a code for January! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I'm on the fence for the Princess 1/2. I'm wondering if I can do two 1/2 marathons so close together.
Make it a great day everyone!!

Hey, Leaner-Sweeties ('cause there's not a mean one among you ;) )
I haven't really fallen off the edge of the earth -- just the edge of the wagon. Not bad binge eating, just that not-being-too-careful eating that results in slow and steady little gains. Definitely out of Onederland, but I can see its borders and could re-enter within 3 weeks, I think.
Loved the WW saying about goals and excuses. Whne I was gearing up for Disneyland, nothing could stop me from sticking to my program. Now that I'd just "like to lose some" before Disney and my next Goofy attempt, I'm having a hard time getting started and everything seems to cry, "Oh, start tomorrow. You've got time." In fact, I have precious little time and I KNOW for a fact that weight loss really does make going faster easier.
Tonight I am going to spend some time thinking about my goal and about what it will require from me. If my goal is important enough, I will find a way... right?
I've missed you guys. Loved all the breakfast suggestions too!

Glad to see some of you checking in. Good to hear from Howard and Wendy. Wendy, don't worry about the little lapse....you will get your mojo back. Onederland is right around the corner...... It happens to all of us. Remember, this is a lifetime journey, and it doesn't happen all at once.
I haven't been able to workout the last two days because of being sick, but I hope I am better for tomorrow.

hey everyone...
Just been super super super busy with DD. I did another 5K last weekend (same time as last time 33:45!), and got in my LR, 7 miles yesterday pushing DD in the stroller. More of a wog, but at least I got it done. I've got a girls weekend planned with a friend to visit another friend in west palm.
Scale has been bouncing all over. I am now finally back to within 2 pounds of pre-TOT weight. I lost 3.5 pounds in the last week!! Hopefully it will continue in that direction.
 to everyone!

Howdy Lean Meaners!
Ok, still on track with the training. I just have to do 30 min on the bike today, so that's a no-brainer. I'm still waiting for it not to make my seat sore, but I've accepted that's the price I pay for just doing it once a week...:thumbsup2
AmyK -- It seems you are busier now than before! That's excellent, it means you are really enjoying the time with DD, and I'm sure she's thriving. princess:
Beth -- Feel better! :wizard: I'm sorry, it is really hard to avoid it when the whole house gets
Wendy -- You had great words of wisdom. It is all about choices, and I make the wrong ones far too often. :headache:
Vicky -- You have Aero bars! That has to be one of the best joys of living in Canada! :cloud9: I love the dark ones, and of course they don't stock them here. I can get mint and milk, but stumbling upon the dark ones is always a cause for mini celebration!
Stacie -- Does the code deal help you? It does nothing for us because we won't buy 4 days of park tickets, but it seems great for people planning a week in the parks. :thumbsup2
Lisa -- The whole wheat wrap with the black olives sounds incredible! I am definitely trying that! :cool1:
Tracey -- PB is ridiculously yummy, isn't it? I just try to stay away, but somehow it always finds its way into our home :confused3
Howard, Cindy, Connie, Jeanne, Mike -- :wave2: Hang in there, guys!
Happy Weekend!

Hi Y'all! Just a quick run-by....DS is running in the state champs tomorrow and I've gotta get everything ready.
Lisa, how was you WDW b'day? Stacie, did the code work for you? I would love to do the Princess 1/2, maybe next year. Vicky, did your weather turn cold? Ours sure did. Connie, how's the shoulder? Wendy, I saw the GORGEOUS picture that you posted on the weekly thread. If I lived in NC, I would have to buy a pass for the Biltmore Estate...I'd love to explore the property. Beth, so sorry you're sick. Hope you're feeling better today. Amy, pushing the stroller is a tough job isn't it? But, it does help with speed. Maria, the code didn't help us either. Although, it might be enough to convince DH to take all the kiddos in June.:yay: :yay: :yay:
My run was pushed off the calendar yesterday and today is my 5 miler and I still haven't made the time. looks like it's gonna be an evening run for me. Take care all and have a great weekend.

Hi Cindy,
Thanks for asking....he came in 21st and his time was 16:34. So he's an All-Stater and he's thrilled! It was a very exciting day and we're so proud of him. Good Monday morning folks! I am alive, and back to work. Boy, this GI bug was a bad one.......still have the headache that came with it though. It drained me, that's for sure.
I didn't run for three days.....or do much else. I did clean my bathroom really good, and the boys room. I got the leaves raked up too.......so actually, a pretty productive weekend being sick! I did get a 6 mile run in yesterday, which was super slow.......but it was a nice cool day on the trail.
I didn't get to catch up with everyone.......I will go back and read up and post later....

Hey you guys!!!
So...that 4/3 discount on the rooms didn't help me a bit! We're only going to be there for 4 days. I got an AP rate for January and then I did get a good price through the Disney Sports folks for the Princess Half in March (not renewing the annual pass.). I think it will all work out.
I got my 7 miler in yesterday. Overall it went well. We averaged a 15 min pace so I'll take it. My feet did ok overall, but the back of my right knee was KILLING me by the time I got done. Ouch! I iced it and it was sore all day, but it's a bit better today. Same thing happened for the Minnie 15K. Not sure what it is or how to fix it...
I got my new shoes in. They are nice, but it seems a bit more narrow at the top. I walked on the TM for 15 min and left foot went numb! ugh!!! I tried them out the next day for 20 min and seemed to do a bit better. I hemed and hawed and I've ordered a Wide pair from runningwarehouse.com (WISHD Discount!) to try out since they have free shipping both ways. I also found my previous version online (no discount) and ordered those too. I have so much trouble w/ my stupid feet!
Beth...Glad you are feeling better!
Tracey...Yay for your son!!!
Hope you all have a great day!

Try stretching your hamstrings and calves a bit more...usually when I get knee pain right down the back of my knee, its because I haven't concentrated on the backs of my legs...
Mike's Place:
Been afk here for a while. Had the MRI last week, but haven't heard back from my surgeon , which I guess is good. Been walking, stretching and swimming mostly, trying to stave off weight gain until training begins in earnest for the 2009 Ironman in Madison.

Good Morning Everyone,
Julie: You and me both with the Halloween candy. My solution was to eat so many of them I felt sick to my stomach, I'm not craving them any more. It's probably not the healthiest solution. Good luck finding your way back to the wagon.
Cindy, I tried your method, but it didn't work. I felt sick for a while, but then the feeling went away and more candy jumped out of the bowl and into my hands. :confused3
Thankfully, the candy is gone now and I'm really trying to avoid the kids' snack food.

Cindy...I'll pass on the congrats to Jake! :) Thanks.
Beth...Wow, you still get alot done when you're sick. Glad you're feeling better, but hoping the headache goes away soon.
Stacie...when the back of my knee starts hurting, it's usually time for new shoes for me. I'd definitely try Mike's advice and work on stretching out those hamstrings.
Mike...keep us updated. Is the walking and swimming working? I always worry about keeping the weight off when I cut back on running.
Julie...thanks for the congrats, I'll pass it along. We are so proud of him:cool1: .
HockeyChic...join on in. We're all looking to drop some poundage.
I had the best 10 mile run ever on Sunday. I ran on the river trail and I realize that I LOVE running through fallen leaves. I managed a 10:30 pace and that was taking a 1 minute walk break every 19 min. Last night I had step class. Gotta go!

Welcome :welcome: HockeyChic! Everyone is welcome here! What kind of plan are you on for weight loss? That is always helpful to us to lend support.....so many different plans here, you will be sure to find a 'buddy'!
Tracey: Congrats to your son! Great job! You must be so proud!
Julie: I know how it is with temptation.......I am just SO glad I avoided the whole Halloween candy thing......the sugar cravings are the worst to kick. I hope things are going better!
Mike: I hope your MRI results are positive! Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Stacie: I hope the new shoes are a help to you...... I love  new shoes!
So, I am getting slowly back to normal.....it was a tough bug to get over. I got Pilates in last night.....boy I missed it! I will be sore later though..... :scared1: I also got 3.5 miles in on the elliptical trainer, which I am glad for. The whole family went to the gym, so I could squeeze in an extra 30 min after class. Dinner was way late though.......I had some cranky boys before dinner was done! :sad2:
I am down 12 pounds so far......it was a little more after being sick, but I had a couple rebound pounds come back on after I started to eat and drink again. Let's keep this party going!

Hey Lean Meaners!
Today did not get off to the best start. Theoretically, I was going to be on the TM around 5, and then do half an hour on the bike. But my brain knew it was a holiday (Veteran's Day in the US, for our friends North of the Border)...so I slept 'til almost 7. I've finally dragged myself to work (I'm making a guest appearance, not really doing anything too stressful since most of my co-irkers are holidaying). I'm leaving at 2:30, and I'll do my workout as soon as I get home. I just wanted to have it out of the way like I usually do.
We discovered yesterday that DH and I had different expectations for the Disney Half. I expected it to be on Jan. 10th and he expected it on the 17th. :rolleyes1 Good thing I make all the travel arrangements. On the down side, I let him make the training schedule, so now we have to cut a week. I'm cutting next week, because I figure it's easier to do nearer the beginning. So, next week my short wogs will be 4 miles instead of 3.5. It's going to be interesting to see how much sleep I need next week!
Kim -- :welcome: So glad you found your way here! The Lean Meaners are awesome, and full of good advice. I just need to take some of it...
Julie -- I am with you, so glad the candy has moved on. For some reason, Thanksgiving is just easier to handle. I think it's because I can't sit and mindlessly eat stuffing...:thumbsup2
Mike -- All the things you are doing will pay off. I know you are impatient now, but you have your eyes on the Ironman prize, and I know you will get there! :wizard:
Stacie -- I'm not an expert shoe fitter -- but if your foot went numb I think that's a very bad sign...I hope you are able to settle into a pair that fit you like a glove.
Beth -- I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better. We were raking leaves this weekend, too. They just keep falling...Let yourself ease back into your training schedule. Your body has been through alot! :grouphug:
Tracey -- Congratulations on your son's fantastic finish! I know you are bursting with pride! :woohoo:

Good Morning Everyone,
Kim: Welcome. Good luck with the weight loss. I hope your cold gets better quick.
Dave: Now that I know you're reading us everyday I'll be sure to say hello.
Jeff: That's so cruel. Just wait until we get a foot of snow and I'll post pictures then and you'll be so jealous... or maybe not.
Beautiful pictures, beautiful girls.
Maria: Good job getting all worked out before 6 AM. I hope your conference is a good one.
Beth: Glad to hear you're feeling better. Nice job on the 12 lbs. Keep at it.
Tracey: Glad to hear you had a great 10 miler. I love Fall running too. Great pace.
Mike: Hope the knee continues to get better. Good luck with keeping the weight off while you are resting it.
Julie: Glad the candy is gone. We still have some, but I'm ignoring it.
Stacie: Hope you are able to figure out your foot numbing problem. Hope the back of the knee gets better.
Amy: How's it going? Hope DD isn't keeping you too busy.
Lisa: Last we heard you were just 3 lbs away from your goal, how's that going? Are you there yet? Hope you are doing well.
Wendy: I hope you are finding a way to your goal.
Connie: Hope the shoulder rehab is going well. Hope all that scary weather in TX this week didn't affect you.
I was planning to get back to marathon training this week, but ended up with a cold. I've skipped a few runs and have decided to just do a few easy runs this week and start back with the plan next week. I don't think it will really set me back too much.
WW this week was great. The leader is so fabulous. She gave us a little string with a jingle bell and for each lb we lose between now and Xmas week she'll give us another bell to put on the string. You'd think she was offering diamonds the way I'm so excited to collect these bells. My eating has been very good. 9 days in a row of counting WW points and staying within my limit and I'm down 2 lbs this week so just 11 to go till my goal. I love how good it feels when you're on a roll like this. I know that some little thing can come along and push me off the wagon, but I'm trying to anticipate the obstacles so I have a plan to deal with them.
Have a great day everyone.

I think you're "spot on"(that's for you, Deb!) in dropping a week out of the training schedule now....you'll do great next week and hopefully, sleep like a baby (unless you're like my baby, then you'll wake up around 2am and wander around the house looking for a warm body to snuggle up to:rotfl2: ). Nice job getting the early morning workouts in.

Angie,
My snacks of choice lately:
laughing cow cheese wedge with Wasa crisp
apples
bananas
carrots with humus
100 calorie snacks of anything
edaname packets (they sell them with Dora on the package in the freezer section)
Special K 90 calorie bars
Firber One bars
FF Fig Newtons
Kashi Fruit and Graham bars
Now the trick is to choose just one or 2 of these and not one of each.
Good luck,
Cindy

Hi Lean Meaners! Well, I think I was pretty good last week - ate my veggies, watched my portions, drank my water and cut out my snacking. I weighed myself last night and I'm down 3.3 pounds! :yay: Now if I can keep that up until January, I'll be one happy gal! Realistically, I'll be happy if I can lose inches or 1 pound a week.
Had a tough workout on Monday with my PT. I'm surprised that lots of different things are still achy but I think that's a good thing?
Maria - I've never noticed dark chocolate Aero before. I've seen some interesting flavours for Kit Kat - green tea, banana, orange. If they're hard to find, I can bring some in January for you. Just let me know!
Angie - For snacks, I like pears, grapes and Clementines (I think they're about to be in season again), a small handful of salt-free mixed nuts, snack bags of plain microwave popcorn, Wasa bread with low-fat cream cheese, low fat Babybel cheese wheels, no-sugar added Jello pudding cups, Kashi granola bars (these aren't low in calories though), Thinsations PB cookies, Nestle Singles After Eight or Coffee Crisp, 1 point WW lemon bars.
Kim - Hope you're feeling better soon!
Dave - I have that song on my iPod... very catchy!
Stacie - What kind of shoes did you buy? Hope your knee is feeling better.
Cindy - The jingle bells are such a cute idea!
Jeff - Gorgeous pictures! Looks like you've got a tough winter ahead of you

I wondered about that myself -- I, too, missed the sometimes silly, sometimes sobering Panda pop-ins. I hope you'll post more often when you can. I don't get to all the blogs, boards, or even the threads on this board that I'd like to -- though I know they have good content. We miss you and Erica too!
As far as my weight loss journey, I made myself a little map from home to WDW Florida, peppered it with "road markers" with weight goals for certain dates along my "route", and am diligently trying to hit them. They are probably a bit more aggressive than I can actually manage, but at least it gives me something more solid to shoot for than "lose something before Disney" -- my standard mantra. I know with Christmas and Thanksgiving there will be ample opportunities for excuses. I'm trying to head them off.
Take care, my leaner friends!

I ran some intervals on the TM last night...12 min at a 9:40-10mpm pace with 90 seconds of walking recovery x3. I'd like to get my 5k time down below 30min. As tired as I was, I woke up at 4am and couldn't sleep anymore. I just did my 40 min on the bike, so I'm all worked out until tomorrow's long wog. It's a good feeling, I just wish I didn't drop like a log at 10 every night. I can't stay awake anymore, even when I want to. I guess I've finally adapted!
Jeff -- Ok, now I see the downside -- I don't know how you run in that heat! You are a machine! :thumbsup2
Tracey -- With parenting the entire spectrum, it's extra important you take time for you through your workouts! It's such a great stress reliever. Enjoy your long walk! :cool1:
Kim -- I hope you're feeling better! :grouphug: Post when you can, that's what we all do.
Jeanne -- I could not agree with you more! We need more Panda, more Debra, more Vic, and more posts from everyone! It doesn't matter what you say. At this time of year, it's just good to hear that everyone is out there getting as fit as they can. :yay:
Dave -- I have missed your wit, charm and positive attitude. Please do not hesitate to post here, you and Erica are beloved and we miss you! :grouphug:
Wendy -- I think the map is a great idea! I'm all for trying anything new to get me motivated to move!
Vicky -- Green tea KitKats?! Ok, that's a new one. It sounds like you have some really fun flavors up there! :cutie:
Angie & Cindy -- I have a new fav 100 cal snack -- Twinkie Bites! They taste just like the real thing, they're just three bites of :cloud9:. I had them with a cup of hot tea, and I was good for the night. Just a thought! :goodvibes
Beth -- I would party with you anytime! I think that's how the posts go -- they always get rolling when I'm away :confused3 :rotfl:
Stacie -- How are you feeling? I hope your knee is better. :upsidedow
Shoutouts to Amy, Howard, Mike, Connie, Julie, Lisa and all the Lean Mean Brigade!
Wow, I did get my whole post in, so now I can just come back to chat later! :surfweb:

Good morning y'all.
I have Erica and myself on a weight training routine between now and January. I'm hoping the extra strength training will make up for the lack of miles. With both of us losing two weeks for bad colds after Disney our miles are not were I would like them for marathon training.
Is everyone else ready for January?

Happy Friday to the Lean Mean Brigade (stolen from Maria)!
Jeff...that's an awesome pace, and in the heat ! I worry a little that with it getting so much cooler here, that Jan. in Florida will be a rude awakening.
Maria...awesome job getting those morning workouts in. I wish that I could get it in first thing in the morning.
Panda...Yay...you're here! I'm feeling the beginnings of a cold coming on and I'm trying to muster up the energy to get my 5 miles in. I think it's going to be nice and slow.
We had the cross country banquet last night and the speaker was an All-State high school and college runner who then ran professionally for Team Adidas. He was motivating enough that even though I don't feel like running today, I'm going to run anyway. Have a fantastic weekend y'all.

Good morning!
How is our Lean Mean party brigade? party:
Jeanne/Wendy: It was good to hear from both of you! I know about this time of the year. I am so busy all the time.......I lose sight of the 'prize'! Every day brings a new list of things I need to get done......it gets exhausting.
Tracey: I hear ya on the emotional/physical beating I take everyday with the raising of the children. Wow.....I never realized how hard it is. I do sort of miss the younger years.......it is getting harder and harder as they get older. I found out that my oldest ds is getting picked on at school pretty badly. He was in tears last night telling me what his classmates have been saying to him......I guess the worst is the he is called "Fatso" by most of his class. We are trying so hard to get his weight under control......these things just make it worse. He ended up bingeing last night before he told me about it. I am at a loss in what to do to help him........:guilty:
LTO seems to be the average battle cry......I hope it helps that we are all in the same boat!

Oh, Beth, I feel for you and your son.
Maria, I am in awe of your posts -- you are some great leaner-meaner!
Panda Dave! I'm ready for January! Oh, you meant was I training like I was ready for January... well, not exactly. :upsidedow But I have all my dining reservations -- Does that count? :rotfl:
I'm looking out the office window at all the continual rain and thinking about what Jeanne and her DH and I will face tomorrow. No way I'd be outside for 16 miles in the rain without my buddies -- I'd be chugging away on the treadmill. Thank heavens for WISHers!!!!!
OK, back to work before I get myself fired!

Hi Everybody! :wave2:
Wendy IMHO, dining reservations do count! Good for you! ;)
Maria You are the queen of the Meaners! You are keeping this thread afloat!
Cindy Gentle sweet Cindy! I have to come here just to see you! I miss your kind sweet loving ways. You are the GEM of the Meaners!
Jeanne LIfe is Good! It gets in the way of important computer stuff, for all of us, but where we would be without a great big WELCOME BACK glad to see ya, anytime; hello from the WISHERS?
Kim Welcome Girlfrined. THere's lots of brilliance on this board! We are all here for you! Welcome to the LEaners!
Beth  Kids can be so mean. My best advice, is to not put your son on a diet. Just try to keep the portions real, the food healthy and let him grow into his weight. I am so sorry he has to go through this. I hope you are going to the school, hopefully there is a no bullying policy. As one who was bullied; it all works out and may make us stronger, better people. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of consolation in that, right now.
Dave We all miss the witty and fun Dave. Although, there's lots of good stuff on your blog, we still need your YARC side, too! :hippie:
Jeff I hope you were bragging about your winter and not complaining.....wait, maybe I mean that I hope you WERE complaining....wait, maybe I hope you were bragging.......darn it all, I guess I am just glad you have a wonderful place to be!
As for me in the Great Plains of the Texas Panhandle, we have done a round of doctors this week. DH is recovering from his Back surgery very nicely. I have to see the ortho next week and hopefully, I will be able to move to the next stage of my recovery. I am sick to death of the pain and I don't want to talk about it any more. I have lossed 7 lbs and am training again. It's like starting at ground zero, but that just gives me the chance to be better at the starting gate than I once was! :)
Everyone take care. LIFE IS GOOD! -- Connie

Connie,
It's a cold day in Honolulu, when I have to put on a shirt. :lmao:
Going reef walking with my Girl Scouts tonight. Showing them what creatures are in 3 feet of water at night. I will hopefully post some cool pictures this weekend.

Good morning everyone, here are some thoughts I had today:
We really only have control over our own body and our own actions. Well here lately that fact is being drilled into us big time. We just went through a period where gas went from around $2.00 a gallon to over $4.00 a gallon to now where it's down to $1.78 a gallon. The stock market is just stupid right now and we are in real danger of having a disaster in the whole worlds economy. Makes you wanna shake your head and say "What the hell just happened"?
We can't control anything past our nose. It's a fact of life and we might as well accept it. We can do what we can to be prepared and try to be the best influence we can for others but we can only make our own decisions.
Lots of stuff in our lives are not controllable, way more than we can control but we can do our best to exert our influence over those things. Like you can choose not to support products you don't agree with like tobacco, you can't stop people from smoking but you can only support restaurants that don't allow smoking. I know that sounds like a little thing but if more of us did the "Little things", we could make a big difference.

Hello Lean Meaners.
Mike....what? Parenting woes at your house, too?
Beth...Oh, sweetie, my heart goes out to you and DS (and the whole family, for that matter). Kids can be so mean and they do it for the silliest reasons. I truly believe that the school counselor's need to get into the classrooms more to discuss bullying and being kind to others. I'm all too familiar with emotional eating and can understand your son bingeing. I've found myself being alot happier walking/running the "upset" away instead of filling it with food. Would DS walk or run with you? That would give you a chance to touch base one on one with him and give him a chance to unload. Having been an educator, I would suggest contacting the school. No child should have to endure that kind of punishment. Sending lots of  your way.
Wendy...Dining reservations most definitely count.;)
Connie...you are so right...Life is Good. Hoping things are on the upswing for you and that the pain gets under control.
Jeff...we were giggling at the pics you posted because you posted that it was 84 degrees and your kiddos were wearing jackets. My kids are still going jacket-less at 55 degrees here. Now today, at a frigid 33, they're wearing coats! Reef walking sounds awesome, what did you see?
Panda...we have quite a few restaurants around here that have gone "smoke-less". DS and I are allergic to smoke and it makes us happy to go places where we won't walk out with snuffy noses and red eyes.
Everybody else...
I'm getting ready to start putting up Christmas decs soon and start some holiday baking. The problem is, with me watching what I eat, DH having given up cookies, DS#1 not eating cookies, that leaves only the 3 little guys to eat cookies and they don't need that many. So I'm think of just making the cookies to give away and saving a few for the little guys....but it's sooooo hard to resist cookie-dough.
***WW people, I can't find my book that tells me how many extra points that I should add in for exercising. Can someone tell me how many points for walking and how many for running? Thanks.
Today is pilates and step class for me. Yesterday, was supposed to be my 10 mile run, but it didn't happen and I only got 5 miles in....so tomorrow is my long run day and it's scheduled to be a high of 22 degrees. There's no way that I can take my DS2 out in the stroller in that, so, I'll probably be on the TM for 10 miles:scared1:

Kim & Tracy,
It's down to 74 around 7 am this morning, and that's with a cold front lingering just North of our island chain. It can get down to the 50's here if conditions are right. There is snow on the Big Island, atop Mauna Kea.
My girls were wearing their sunprotection shirts at the beach (not jackets). Keeps them from getting sunburn during our winter. LOL.
Here's the link to my photos of the reef walk.

We saw octopus (Tako), Spanish Dancers, urchins, puffer fish, trumpet fish, Moorish Idol, moray and white eels, crabs, slipper lobster, turtles. A whole lot more.

Wow, this thread is bare! Where is everyone?
Life continues to be ok for me. :thumbsup2 Eating is going well, and I am maintaining the 12 pound loss. Nothing new coming off, but it will eventually I know. I am feeling good, with good energy!
I was toying with taking the day off yesterday, but I managed to get on my treadmill for 3 miles (hard 3 too!) which I am happy for. My schedule gets so hairy at times, I have to take the time to exercise when I have the time to do it! Time is at a premium!
Hope everyone is hanging in there........sure is getting cold out there! (right, Jeff????)

I'm now consoling two crying children, and one crying wife. We had to put one of our dogs to sleep after I got home last night. Immediately had to go to the humane society.
Casey was a very old Chihuahua, and suffering with cancer for 2 years. Last night she could no longer walk, or stand. 14 years old at least, possibly she was 15.
We still have 3 remaining dogs. We had five last December, until Tanner passed away. Oh, and our cat Lucky also passed away this year after at least 18 years.
I thought I had prepared the girls for this dog. We tried a month ago to take her to the humane society, but the girls said no. Tonight they accepted it was finally time.
I don't enjoy the crying involved with my three girls. The waterworks were flowing last night. I need to think about this before getting any new pets to replace the last three we've lost.
