At this point, all the blue guitars will have plenty of time to go back their room and relax for a while and still make it back before I get close to the finish line.

Hi all,

I'll be right there with y'all in San Antonio next month!!

I registered for the full way back in January and am looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I lost 3 months of training recently due to being rear ended by another car, but am back on track now (no pun intended!). As of yesterday I am up to 11.1 miles on my long run, so we'll see if I might have to drop back to the half instead.

In any case, I'll be right there with you.

I've never heard of the Cult. I guess I'll have to google them, but why is it that the RnR advertising always mentions past performers I recognize?

The Cult is kind of New Wave/Alternative from the late 80s/early 90s. I knwo I know some of their music, but will need to listen more to remind myself.

Terri - :guilty: So sorry you can't come, but a long weekend at WDW sounds great!

Richard - So sorry about the accident! :scared1: Very glad you are back on track and will be joining us!

Hi All,

Carrie - Thanks for getting us organized. :cool1:

Getting close!!! :scared1: So looking forward to seeing everyone!!! :woohoo:

So where is everyone staying?

John & I are staying at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk on North Saint Mary's Street. We arrive on Friday night (our fligt is scheduled to land at 5:25pm) We leave on Monday night (5:10pm flight).

What's everyone got planned? We'd love to hang with everyone as much as possible.....we miss our WISH friends. :grouphug: The only thing we have on our must do list (besides the expo, race, & concert) is to see The Alamo & Riverwalk.

wtpclc
10-29-2008, 10:26 AM
Alamo and RIverwalk are on our to do list too.

We don't get in unitil 1 on Saturday. (Bummer, but price difference was huge). We leave Tuesday morning.

I'd love lots of WISH time too!!!

Any thoughts on dinner Saturday?

Is everyone/anyone doing the concert? I think we will, but not set in stone. I really like 1 or 2 songs by them, but the rest are so-so. I could be swayed otherwise.

kareneast

We've never been to San Antonio before, so really have no idea what is around for dinner Saturday night, but I'm sure there has to be lots of places along the Riverwalk. Hopefully someone is more familiar with the area.

Not a big Cult fan, but were going to go to the concert since it is free. We can be easily swayed if someones got any other ideas. :upsidedow

Jim and I get into SA Friday mid-day and we will be staying at the Crockett, right across from the Alamo (Anne and Robert are also staying there). We would LOVE a WISH meet!! We leave on Monday, so the concert is a possibility, depending on what else is going on.

I'd be happy to join in on a WISH meet for dinner.

I was hoping to spend several days in San Antonio. Unfortunately, my Board of Directors (I work for a regional water utility district.) moved the monthly Board meeting up to Monday the 17th, which means I have to finish preparation Friday and be back to work Monday morning. So now, I won't be there until late Friday and have to drive back home Sunday afternoon.

Anne - We'd love that, as long as the time works for Scott and mass. (They published 3 places adn times in teh newsletter, so hopefully we can make it work) If not, looks like this sinner will make Scott go by himself, as usual. ;)

Tiberius - So sorry your wekend's been cut short. Hope you can still find time to enjoy some sites and meet up with us! Can you do dinner with us Saturday?

BTW - Bill is flying solo fro this one. Lynnda told me we have to keep him in line :sad2:

If you want to plan around him, Scott can go to mass at 5, 5:30 or 6. We completely understand if it doesn't work, though.

Hey, SA marathon peeps!

I am sorry to say that I now will not be down there to cheer, though I will be there in spirit!
I travel all day Saturday, and am having shoulder surgery on Monday :scared1: so I will need most (if not all) of Sunday to prepare myself and my home for living with one useful arm (not even my dominant arm) for the next several weeks.

Please post race reports!
I'll tell my sis to watch out for the people in WISH shirts and cheer extra loud!

San Antonio!!

Day One: Jim and I left Chicago Friday morning and arrived in sunny San Antonio about 11AM. We got our luggage, grabbed a taxi, and headed to our hotel to check-in and meet up with Anne and Robert.:thumbsup2 We stayed at the historic Crockett hotel right across from the Alamo, and it was pretty neat.

The four of us headed out to grab some lunch and walk to the expo (about a 1.5 mile walk). The weather was beautiful, the company was great and soon we were at the Alamodome. The expo was very well-laid out. We walked in, and went right up to get our packets, then on to pick up our race shirts and goody bags(no backtracking like at the DL expo). The race merchandise area was next and the cashier area was extremely organized. Then it was on to the vendor area and Jim scored his share of freebies. On the walk back to the hotel we stopped at the River Walk and did a boat tour. It was beautiful!

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e298/wdwfan9/IMG_5135.jpg

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e298/wdwfan9/IMG_0711.jpg

Later in the evening John and Karen walked to our hotel and we all piled into a cab to go see Spirit of the Marathon. I didn't realize that John Bingham, Coach Jenny, and Chicago were an important part of the movie, so that was really cool. Soon day one of our adventure was over and it was time to turn in.

San Antonio!

Day Two: Karen and John headed to the expo first thing and then met us at the Alamo for a tour. I'm so glad that we took the time to visit. It's one of those places you hear about, and to actually be able to walk the grounds was really cool.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e298/wdwfan9/IMG_0721.jpg

Then we decided to do a trolley tour, saving a couple bucks each thanks to Karen's headsup coupon clipping from a hotel magazine. Unfortunately the tour wasn't as anywhere as neat as the tour I did with Anne and Robert in Philly in Sept. The tour guide was more interested in pointing out hotels than historic information.:confused3 We did get off at the Market Place and explored for a little bit before heading to the River Walk for our WISH meet supper. Here we are full of pasta!

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e298/wdwfan9/IMG_5331.jpg

Then it was time to head back to the hotel for hopefully a good night's sleep before our big day.

San Antonio!

Race Day: It was in the 30's when we headed out the door to catch the shuttle bus to the race start. I had brought gloves, but there were ones in the goody bag, they came in handy!! Jim and I had throw-away shirts, and Anne and Robert used disposable clear rain ponchos to help keep warm. The bus drop-off point seemed like it was a long way from the race start! We had just gotten into our corral when we spotted some WISHers:

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e298/wdwfan9/IMG_0738.jpg

San Antonio had a 2 minute delay between each corral starting, we ended up waiting 52 minutes before we started. Ouch! I know that it was done that way to avoid congestion, but it was hard walking a few feet, standing for two minutes, walking a few more feet, standing a couple more minutes. Finally it was time to start!! Soon someone going by stopped to chat about WISH. At first I thought she was confusing us with Make a WISH, but it turned out she was DisneyDudette. Cool! Jim and I walked together for awhile, then he pulled ahead and Anne and I hung together.

In Philly Anne and I walked almost the entire course with a woman from Chicago. At about mile 5 we heard someone calling our names....it was Mary Kay from the Philly race! How cool was that?!? Out of 30,000 racers we ran (or in our case walked) into each other.

Here is a picture of one of the houses we passed on the course:

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e298/wdwfan9/IMG_0819.jpg

There was a lot to see on the course, lots of crowd support most of the way, and 15 bands for the half-marathoners. Unfortunately the race ended with a bit of an uphill - that was mean and cruel!!

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e298/wdwfan9/IMG_0847.jpg

But, I guess the race organizers tried to make up for it with the most amazing collection of goodies at the race end. Anne has a complete list, but in addition to our fabulous medal there were towels, water, power drinks, bananas, bagels, oranges, apples, bags of pretzels, crackers, multiple kinds of potato chips, trail mix, some type of gummy candy, strawberry smoothies, fruit bars, and free beer. Wow!!

We made our way to the W area to meet up with our fellow WISHers, and after Bill finished the full we walked back to our hotel to clean up and rest a little before heading out to meet up for a great Mexican dinner. We great time celebrating but soon it was time to head back and get organized for heading home in the morning.

Day Four: Heading home. We didn't know how much time to allow to get to the airport and through security on a Monday morning, and as it turned out we spent a total of about 30 minutes doing it all - so we were at the airport nearly 3 hrs before our flight. Luckily we spotted Susie and Bill waiting for their flights and we had a great time chatting away until it was time to head home.

So - it was an amazing, wonderful few days!
