I am buying the Canon 50D when it comes out here in Canada and I want to buy the best TYPE of CF cards I can.
I want to get about 3 or 4 2Gig cards and maybe a 4Gig...But I am confused with the Ultra, Speeds etc
Can anyone shed any light?

As with other questions posted here you will get lots of opinions. I believe that lexar makes one of the best CF cards. I believe you should get the fastest card you can get that your camera supports particularly if you want to shoot multiple images at a time. You want the fastest transfer rate you can get.
I have numerous 2 and 4gb cards. I also have an 8gb card.
Others will tell you they like Sandisk. I have nothing against Sandisk, I just like Lexar better. I also stay away from all off brands. I consider the cards my film and use only ones I trust.
The only time I ever lost an image on a Lexar card was my fault.

There are a lot of counterfeit memory cards, mostly sold on eBay but some on Amazon too. They are often much slower than the real ones. These days we stick with Sandisk Extreme III (retail package).

I think SanDisk CF Cards are good.
You can have a look at this one/

The stats are for the 40D, but it's the best reference I could find:
