I will be arriving with some friends on Sat. June 22. She wants to go to Goodings Market in Celebration. How HIGH are the Prices?

My parents stopped there and felt they were quite overpriced. Here's a link with some comparisons of the various grocery stores around.

We went to Goodings at Cross Roads and walked out! The prices on most items were really high compared to pricing at home - in some cases 3X higher. I'd go elsewhere!!!

Go to Publix on 192!! You can get twice as much there!

The prices at Goodings are rediculous.
There is a Publix located very close to Sea World that we've been using and are very happy with. Their prices are great, and they have a great selection.

OK, where is the Publix on 192?? (Inquiring minds want to know . . . . .:D )

Publix has their own website. I think it's www.publix.com
On that site, you'll find many stores in the Orlando area. You can pick the one that's closest to your hotel.

When in doubt, follow the locals. I was making my one and last stop at the Goodings in Crossroads when I overheard the courtesy clerk tell one of the customers that "None of the locals shop here. It's all tourists." Publix is great - as good of a selection as Goodings and much lower prices. Also, I found a Super Target up near Sea World with a Starbucks in it. Now that's a store! I saw lots of locals shopping there.

There are several Publix stores on 192--if you are going to Celebration anyway there is one almost right there (I can't remember the exact directions but it close to the turn off for Celebration) There is also one at the end of 535 (where 535 and 192 meet) and others.

I honestly felt that Goodings was comparable to my neighborhood grocery stores. It was NOT expensive at all.
(I must live in an expensive area)
In fact some things were LESS then where I live.. so I guess its all relative.

We use both Goodings on the 192 and Publix (far end of 192). I like both. Prices aren't that bad at Goodings IMO although Publix is probably a bit cheaper overall. I like the variety of using both - particularly for takeout meals - Goodings has a much better range than Publix. They also do more 'extras' like kids toys, books etc. The wine department at Publix is pretty good though and they have some very knowledgable staff to chat to aswell. I spent a good 1/2 hour picking out my Xmas/New Year wines with a very helpful Publix employee.
I have heard that the shops at Crossroads are all much pricier but I haven't been up there myself as the ones on the 192 are handier.

I thought Goodings was about the same as what we pay in CT. Not overly expensive for food items, but sundries were expensive.
Goodings prices are outrageous, ridiculous, mind-boggling, and insane.
Publix isn't exactly cheap, either, but looks like it compared to Goodings.
Wal-Mart SuperCenter and Super Target have good prices on groceries.

Thanks for the opinions...I am a PUBLIX Employee, and I know about the prices, but, my friend said she went there a few weeks ago, and liked the variety that they had. (She works for Publix too.) I might go and "see" what it is like, but I will probably not buy anything! :D

Gooding's is expensive. I would try any other supermarket before Gooding's.

I agree with Barry!
We have some of the highest grocery and gas prices in the country in my neck of the woods and Goodings seemed expensive compared to our prices (at least the LBV branch). BTW, how is the Albertson's down there? I read there was one near Sea World? How does it compare with Publix? Is it worth a visit?

Yeah know... There's a Winn DIxie just down the street from Goodings at Cross road. If you go down just past the Olive Garden(heading away from I4) just past the light on the same side as Goodings is a Winn Dixie. The prices are much better and you can even get the discount card that give you extra savings!

I remember a few years ago, the cheap no-name soda was $3.99 for a 12 pack. I think you can get a 12 pack of the brand stuff (Coke or Pepsi) for $3.99 at other places. I've see them go as low as $2.50 each at some places!
The good thing about Gooding's is that it has stuff you can't find anywhere else. However, the prices for the usual stuff is too high for me to walk in there again.
Albertson's has some good prices. I personally like to shop at Publix. It has some good prices and a clean store.

Well Pepsi twelve packs here are usually 4.29/4.69....so Goodings is cheaper!

Barry, is Albertsons not clean down there? I never found it when I was there, so I couldn't compare it to home. Just goes to show you how grocery chains can vary coast to coast. My local one is great - neat as a pin, great customer service, prices, blah, blah, blah.
Goodings does have a lot of the designer foods, but I recall some of that at Publix too. The other thing I remember is when the bag boy helped us with our grocery bags at Goodings he stood by the trunk of our rental car and waited for a tip. I just stood there clueless, because that is not a customary practice in my neck of the woods. I did notice that Publix had a sign posted over the exit door that taking the bags out is just part of their job. They don't expect a tip. I thought it was a cute sign and was relieved to find I'm not the only tourist baffled by the practice of tipping the bag boy or girl. :p

I never knew tipping was allowed in any Florida supermarket. I worked at Winn-Dixie when I was in high school and we had a no tipping policy. Some people still tipped. I never stood by the trunk waiting for a tip, but I never said no if they offered.

Oh, Albertson's is pretty clean. I used to work at one during high school. I still think Publix has a better shopping experience. Wal-Marts seem to have the best price, but they are huge! It seems like you have to ride the tram from one end to the other! :)

BARRY: LOL! Some Publix stores are getting bigger too!;) I will check Goodings out, and if they have some decent Sushi prices, I will buy some, if not, I will go to Epcot for it!;) I am however, bring my own Water and Soda from home!:o

Word to the wise--do not buy beer at Goodings!
A case runs at least $20--they were $15 in Publix.

If we only need a few things (milk, soda, snacks) I use Gooding's at Crossroads Plaza. They are comparable to the smaller markets in my area here at home. (12 pack of soda $4.99, Gallon of milk $3.00). They have an excellent bakery area (got an easter cake here last year for $6.99). If we're staying in our DVC unit and plan on cooking I usually go to Super Walmart on 192 but for just a few items it's not worth going farther than Gooding's IMHO.

Poohbear -- the price of a case of beer at a WDW resort was $32 in 9/00.

Yes, but was it good beer? Good beer has no price. :)
Well, at Universal, a glass of beer was $6. I think you can buy a case of some decent beer for that much. :)

I usually shop at both the Publix at 192 & Xentury Drive and the Goodings. I get basics at the Publix ... and yes, that includes beer ;). I go to the Goodings for specialty foods. They have a very nice sushi bar, great prepared salads, and other prepared foods ready to microwave. It might be expensive, but belive me their "homemade" mac-n-cheese is cheaper than what you could find at Disney.

Gee... hasn't anyone shopped at Winn Dixie just 1 block down the road (past Olive Garden)at Cross Roads ... anything wrong with that store? I shopped there and found the prices much better than Goodings and no one ( including the hotels) tell you its there!...Why??? Should I know something?

We're talking Budweiser, Barry. Does that qualify as good beer?

$20 for a case of beer...thats CHEAP!
Well, in PA you can only buy it by the case, no six packs and only at special Beer stores... and they always run about $20/some about $35!!! (Thats the good stuff!)
Yuengling runs about $18/ but the Sam Adams we like is about $23/25.. a case lasts the two of us forever...

Tense - I was at Crossroads several times and didn't see WinnDix. What's wrong with me? I wish I had. It would have been a lot easier than driving to Kissimmee. Also I couldn't ever find Walmart. They told me to go to Medieval Times on 192. I never found it! Guys/Gals... you haven't tried beer until you've had NW Microbrew. I haven't seen that in the WDW stores, though, and where does one get "decent" coffee beans done there? I know where the Starbucks is, but I'm looking for more of the microbrew of coffee.

Yaeh... Winn Dixie is across from Romano's Macaroni Grill. I think just past Walgreens. No one ever tells you it's there. I know it is because I shopped there!!! It was clean and much better priced. I just found it funny (I don't know why) that no one ever mentions it!

Winn Dixie expensive??? We are comparing it to Goodings right!... Gee at Goodings they rape you. No Winn Dixie isn't bad price wise at all!

Winn-Dixie prices aren't too bad. It's the only place that I can find a can of pork brains too. :)
Anyway, I think 7-Eleven has better prices on stuff than Gooding's!

Bear in mind that the Goodings in Celebration is only very small. Its about one tenth of the size of any Publix I've ever been in.
Its more a deli, a video store and a liquor store. There's not much else.

Thanks guys!;) Like I said...I will CHECK IT OUT, and if there is anything I truly need, I will buy it, if NOT, I will Pass! I think my friend is talking about the one near Lake Buena Vista, so that is the one I will be checking OUT!;)

Barry - Pork brains... can't say I've tried those yet! Does anybody sell 'gator steaks in the meat section to appease the tourists, or is it rolled into the sushi?
