DH and I are looking to view one of the many Christmas light parades that take place on the water. This one says you can ride in one of the the boats for $30/person. I'm wondering if any of you have done this, and if so, if you would recommend it. We'll be in SoCal from 12/12 through 12/20, and I'm willing to drive to Long Beach, Newport Beach, etc. so we can at least watch one of these parades. Any advice or recommendations?

I've never gone on one of the boats but i just wanted to add that there is also a parade of lights in Dana Point. I went to it one year and it was fun. That's the only one i've been to though and we went to that one because it was close to where we lived at the time so I'm not sure that it's the best one. I imagine one at Long Beach would be bigger but I don't know for sure. Dana Point is nice though.

I used to live in Newport Beach and my friend has a house on the water so we would take her little boat out and watch the parade. We absolutely LOVED it! Now we never had to pay so that's really up to you but people go all out with their decorations. It's very relaxing and fun!

I, too, have not been on a boat to watch the boat parade but have eaten a one of restaurants along the harbor to watch them from the window. You get to see the boats go by while eating your dinner. However, I am sure that you probably would be able to see more boats while on the boat ride. Good luck finding your answers!:goodvibes

Yes we have done it a few times and LOVED it. We have only been to the Newport Beach Boat parade. Its very cool to be part of the parade. We were able to see all the decorated boats as well as the homes along the canal.
