Hello Goofs,

So hard to believe that we are going into October.

Yesterday no miles but the lawn got mowed. Total time 75 minutes.

HaVe a good Sunday and hopefully I can begin to get more mileage under my belt.

Lisa- today is Sunday- day of rest. Why the heck are you up and posting before 5 AM!!

Yesterday I did the body flow class and body pump. I cut body pump short because I did not do the lunges or the shoulders. Total time was 1.45 hours.

I am going to have a PT eval on Monday. I will be meeting with a personal trainer after so hopefully I will have some good news. I can weight bear okay now. As soon as I start running it flairs up again.

I also can't believe it is already October...YIKES!!!

Went for my 7 mile LR this morning in the RAIN!! It was only drizzling when I went out, but by the time I was done it was coming down quite hard. The only good thing was that it wasn't too cold, so I pushed through, doing a r2/w2 interval. I actually feel pretty good right now, hopefully that is a good sign!

7 miles/1:26

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Groovygirls-Good luck with the PT eval tomorrow, hope that goes well!

October already?!?

I jogged/walked the Chick Fil A Miracle Miles 5K yesterday. It was great. I will post my mileage and time later. My Garmin came in at 3.35 miles instead of 3.1 and while I weaved around people in the beginning to get past the walkers, someone else said the course was alittle long. I was able to jog for 1/4 mile at a time, which is huge for me, without feeling like I was going to fall over. Guess I am finally "getting it".

14 days to go till Race for the Taste!!

Whoops. I posted yesterday's miles in the Sept thread. Today DH and I did 2 miles at the park. I always have fast times there, so I thought the "2 laps = 1 mile" sign was lying. Well TrailGuru verified that it really is a half mile loop. I did my 2 miles in 21:26.

Knee is much better after 5 days of rest, ice, Aleve, and stretching.

Going to swim this morning to cross train, and give the knee one more day of rest, than back to (I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE) a regular marathon training regimen.

Good morning Goofs! This is my second attempt at posting this so it will be the abbreviated version.

 and :wizard: :wizard: to all the sick and wounded here in our little family. After you view the spreadsheet, you should be feeling ready and raring to go!!

I have done the update and for September, the Goofs are sitting in 2nd place for miles and 1st place for hours. Pat on the back everyone!!! Overall, we are hanging tough in 3rd place for miles and 2nd place for time. If we all work really hard for the next couple months, we can back door everyone and come out the surprise winner!! So, who is going to be at the WISH meet in January to pick up the prize????

Here are the month totals for everyone in miles/hours format:
Princessrunner: 130.03/19.44

I get to add 5 miles in for EEC and that should be doubled since it was a race right???!!! So add 10 milles and 100 minutes for me. Yipee!

EEC was fun. Definately worth doing if you are a Disney Lover like me. Dh was a machine and push/pulled me the whole 5k so I ran faster than I ever have in my entire life. It felt good.

Hi Goofs!

Lisa - thanks for being such a terrific team captain! :worship:

Cecilia - glad you had a good time at the EE. Sounds like it was a lot of fun!

groovygirls - more :wizard: for your knees.

Mike - glad your knee is doing better!

Suzanne - great pace!!! :cool1:

I'm back from the 50 mile ride in Little Rock this weekend. Whew! I did it and I had a lot of fun in the process! If it weren't for some really steep and long hills, I probably could have done the 75 mile route. Oh, well. Maybe next year. The only downside is that I lost my cateye computer somewhere along the route. I'm not sure about my exact time so I'm just going to make a guess.

Saturday, Sept 27:

Susie: 50 miles, 3.5 hours (100 miles for event! :cool1: )

Steve: 50 miles, 2.75 hours (100 miles)

Just checking in after a busy weekend....

Saturday was just my long dog walk--3 miles in 1 hour (not counting the detours to sniff/pee/chase squirrels--the dog, not me!)

Yesterday I did 4 miles in probably around 40 minutes. I didn't bring a watch. That way, I won't get hung up on how long it takes me when I run outdoors. Just going by how I feel.

Today was 50 minutes of strength/stretch.

Susie Congrats on your bike ride--sounded good, but strenuous.

Joanne Hope your PT appt. goes well.

Mike Hope your first run back goes well and the knee is no problem.

Cecilia, Suzanne Great jobs on your races. :cool1: Cecilia--you are one fast lady! Suzanne--you are getting it. You'' be running the 1/2 soon!

Off to fix dinner and lament the stock market dives.

Today is a rest day for me..which is good as I am not feeling so well tonight....ugh! I have a sore throat and I have no voice...my fiance loves that (not that I am sick, but that I can't talk!!!) Hopefully, I am feeling better tomorrow, as I have a bunch of appointments to go to for our wedding. I am meeting with 3 florists tomorrow to start deciding on who will do our wedding, I am very excited about this!

Good thing we are off of school for the next two days!!!! :cool1: I can rest up, go to these appointments and get my workouts in, and not be dead tired at the end of the day. I am actually thinking about trying out a water aerobics class at my gym tomorrow to see what it is like, I hear it is good, so I will probably check it out.

Back to working out tomorrow for me, so that means I will have an update!

Crap- my post was deleted!

Good news first- I rode for 3 hours today. We did a long trail ride, mostly walking because he was a bit spooky and I was afraid I would lose complete control. Finished off with some flat work. Posting trot was quite painful but we managed to do some fancy dressage work (for me anyways!).

Bad news- PT consult is either bursitis, tendonitis, or something that starts with a p. Treatment will be the same- RICE, ultrasound treatments, and PT. They suggested a cortisone injection and I said no way!

Ultrasound will be three times a week with the goal of me getting thru MCM (I promised a period of rest after (Oh I forgot- I'm doing Goofy!)

I'm meeting with a personal trainer prior to my ultrasound appointment tomorrow. This is my second week with no running and I am getting nervous. Someone needs to talk me off the ledge! I am hoping to come up with a workable plan

Extra bad news- applefest is out too. I will be screaming away and running in spirit!

Good morning Goofs!!

Joanne: :scared1: :scared1: Your hometown race and you cannot even do it???!!! Best to take care of yourself so you can complete MCM. :wizard:

Mike: Good luck on the run today. Keeping fingers crossed that you are back to normal-ish...:upsidedow

Laurie: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Best of luck with your appointments today. I hope you are feeling better and at least get your voice back!!

Maura: I don't think I could run without my Garmin now. I don't check it that often but it is like a security blanket now.

Susie/Steve: Starting out October with 100 miles each....priceless!!!!! Great job on the ride. That is one of the things on my list of things to do...a century ride!!

Cecilia: I have seen some of the photos of EE and it looks like a hoot. My question is, did you HAVE to ride EE? I have a height issue that precludes that. Just that one little space where you see how high you are ruins the whole ride for me. I am such a sissy....:sad2:

As for me, I got my 8 miles in albeit interrupted by the 2 ladies in the gym needing the twin ellipticals again. I finished on the gauntlet (rotating staircase) and my knees and I are not talking today. Staff meeting this afternoon and then hopefully a 4 mile quickie before dinner.

Have a good one Goofs...rock on!!! :rockband:

Met with PT. I had 2 ultrasound treatment with steroids. Knee feels better. Plan is to do some exercises and continue with ultrasound treatment 3 times a week until MCM. The $20 co pays are going to kill me! Hopefully I'll be back running next week. Worse comes to worse I can do the elliptical.

Hey Super Goofs! Hope everyone had a GREAT tuesday! I was off from work today and I am off again tomorrow. :cool1:

I got in my two florist appointments, and think I have one I want to book. I have to decide if I am going to go see anyone else still, but I am happy to be close to booking that vendor.

After coming home and cleaning my apartment a little, I met up with my fiance and we headed to the gym to workout. I did my TM workout and then some stretching. Here's the numbers:

3 miles/33 min
15 min stretching

Cecilia--EEC looked liked so much fun!!! I really would love to do it, but next year is probably out because of my wedding, so I am hoping they keep it around for a few years, so I can get down there! Glad to hear you had fun!

Susie--50 miles on the bike--that is great! I can't even fathom sitting on a bike for that long!! Will you be down at WDW for the marathon weekend this year? It was fun talking with you while cheering during the half.

Lisa--hope you were able to get that 4 miler in after your meeting. You always amaze me how you get everything in that you do, and after getting up so early!!! Keep up the good work!

Beth--Great job in your half!!!

Mike--Glad to hear your knee is feeling better!

Joanne--Glad to hear the treatments are helping. Take it easy though and make sure you rest it enough and don't push it too hard too soon.

To anyone I missed..Keep up the great work!!!

Another 2 miles, another 24 minutes.

I can't believe RftT is so quickly approaching! This is my first "real" 10K, so I gotta ask: Should one do any tapering before racing this distance? Or is that just something you worry about with half marathons and beyond?

Mike Sorry you haven't healed the way you'd like and hope you get an empathetic doctor and good advice.

Yesterday I did 3.2 miles in 32 minutes with another 15 minutes of stretching. Okay run--feeling sorta dead.

Today did an easy 30 minutes on the bike (8.1 miles) and 15 minutes stretching.

Mike - ouch - sorry about that. I hope it gets better soon.

Today I ran with an old friend who is recovering from some serious knee injuries. After her last marathon, she took almost 6 months off running to get them healed and is slowly building up her miles. Today was her second 4 mile run and she had to walk the last 1/2 mile. I was excited that she called me and asked me to run with her. I missed her. Plus she runs slower than my usual partner so its a nice easy run for me which feels good.

4.4 miles in 46:10

Kim -

Rule of thumb for races is to run as many days as you usually do but taper the distance a little. For a 10k, I would take a mile off my last two or three runs before the race.

Everything else still applies:
Nothing new - no new foods, clothes, shoes etc.
Be sure you stay hydrated - drink more than your usual amount of fluid but don't over do it.
Get plenty of rest - I find a nap the day before a race helps more than trying to get to sleep early. I sleep better during the nap because I am not afraid I am going to over sleep. I took about an hour nap the day of the EEC and it was a HUGE help.
Have fun - it is supposed to be fun so do whatever it takes to enjoy yourself.

Mike- hope you are recovering. I am so glad I started PT when I did. My knee feels really good after the ultra sound treatment, stretching and the ice. We are hoping I can start running Monday. Perhaps a PT consult would be worth it?

I rode for 2 hours today. Knee felt better than I thought. GG#2 was home "sick" from school and we had some workers over. Needless to say she did not stay home alone while I went to the gym so we got manicures and pedicures instead. That counts right? The toes have to look good to feel good!

Can't wait for Friday! What time will time be arriving, Lisa?

ksoehrlein

Thanks for the taper advice Cecilia. My daily mileage is still low since I'm in the first few weeks of half marathon training, but I will cut back the distance some next week.

I got new running shoes today and I'm like a little kid... wore them out of the store and everything. They're Brooks Adrenaline, which should play nicely with my flat feet and orthotics (I hope!). The side of my right heel cup is causing a tiny hot spot that I'm going to have to keep an eye on, but otherwise, I'm liking the new sneakers.

Tonight's run was another 2 miles on the treadmill. I got to the gym late tonight and had the cardio room entirely to myself. Until some guy came in and, with 18 other treadmills to choose from, decided to hop on the one right next to me. And it's the one machine with a fraying belt. What's up with that? I was a tiny bit freaked out by what felt like an invasion of my personal space, so I kicked up the pace a few notches in order to get out of Dodge ASAP. Guess I should be thankful to him for making me feel creeped out -- those 2 miles that normally take me 24 minutes were finished in 22:22 tonight.

Booked my room for the 1/2 in January today. I was waiting for the cast discount codes to come out...I was able to get a room at POP. Although we only live 20 mins away, its so much easier to stay on property the night before and have somewhere to shower after the race before heading back into a park or for food.

I worked 12 hours today and didn't get home until 9:30 so I didn't have time to eat and digest before running and bed time. Tomorrow I am heading to CT and the Berlin Fair and CT Ren Faire. Have a nice week!

Good early morning Goofs!! I see we are all here and accounted for. Nice to see all your smiling faces!! :goodvibes

Mike: I say poop too. I cannot imagine myself taking 2 weeks off let alone you my compadre. Rest up and hopefully you will be better than ever. You have been pushing a lot in the last few months and have earned this rest. Hang in and don't forget us!! Swim away.....

Joanne: Still up in the air about the ETA as DH has not told me but his mom told me yesterday that he is planning on coming with. That will make my leaving later as I heard him lining up about 4 loads of wood to haul on Friday. I am shooting for 6 p.m. (packet pickup start) but that is subject to change. I think I PM'd you my cell # but if you don't have it I can send it again. Am I excited.....VERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay:

Laurie: Yay for the florist. You must have most plans in place by now. Make sure you get lots of pics for your Goofy friends!!

Megan: Happy travels. I hope you get your runs in as planned.

Kim: I have that happen a lot at the gym too. Always the creepy guy wearing the wifebeater tank who is profusely sweating. I actually had one woman trying to see how fast I was going one day who stepped on my TM while I was running!!!! :scared1: Some people at the gym are freaky to say the least, especially later in the evening. Keep up the good work and it must feel good to know that you can go faster if you really want to!!

Cecilia: :wizard: on the stomach bug but yay for your friend calling you to run. You are such an inspirational person!!

Suzanne: I am in countdown for ToT. Is anyone else going from the team? I am super excited too!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: Let us know what you think of the race. I have heard mixed reviews but of course, trust a Goof above all others......:upsidedow

Maura: Looks like you are feeling better. Yay for that. Keep up the good work.

So, who is going to marathon weekend and which race (or both) are you doing? Me, I am just sitting here in Maine shoveling snow and waiting for reports to file in with pics of all the fun times.....:sad2:

I have a short easy run today and then I am done until Saturday. Tuesday's 6 miles felt like running in mud. Talked myself off the ledge with the this happens to you every time speech and let it go.... Yesterday's 4.5 miles were a breeze. I had 1 warm up slower mile and a cool down slower mile with 2.5 at a 9:30 pace and ended up with a 10:10 mpm overall pace so I feel MUCH better today. I am really setting my sites on between a 10:00 to 10:30 pace and a finish under 2:15. I hope those hills don't kill me!! :rolleyes1

Have a great day Goofs and remember tomorrow is last chance workout day. Start October strong!!!!!

Mike - two weeks! They might have to medicate me to give me that kind of news. How about the elipitical? or the bike? Oh I am so sorry, I know that is miserable!

Lisa - I am doing BOTH January races. (Not that you can tell by my training.) At this point the thought of Goofy makes me slightly nauseated.

Good early morning everyone. Last chance workout day for everyone except me!!! :lmao: Resty day for the race and a long drive to Joanne's ahead.

Angie: So sorry that I won't get to see you and your family again. I hope that your DD is feeling better soon!

Joanne: DH is coming with. He says mid-afternoon takeoff from here time so that is about 6ish arrival, hopefully. PM me a # and I can call as we get closer.

Everyone else: :flower3: Have a great workout today.

So, only 2 Goofy girls on the team? Is that it? No one doing the half or the full??????

So here I sit working away, nervous as all heck as per my normal. Bad dreams last night although they involved not having a return trip ticket for my DS7 :scared1: but bad dreams all the same so restless sleep. I will be tired tonight and I guess that is a good thing. AmyBeth has contacted me and they will be there Saturday morning, along with Linda and Chad. Cindylou, Kristi and Zack and Joanne will be scream teaming us which will help and my DH decided to go along which warms my heart. I think he secretly likes cheering for me, or maybe he likes looking at all the rear views going by waiting for me.....either way, he will be there to drive the long drive home so we can get DD13 to field hockey bright and early Sunday a.m. (that's 8 a.m.). Whew, long weekend and I have not even got there yet. I am excited don't get me wrong. By the time I hit Hollis, I wlll look like this :hyper: and DH will look like this :faint:!!

Have a great weekend everyone. I will check in bright and early Monday morning. It seems like a long time until I talk to you all again but good things come to those who wait. I want to leave you with the mantra that is driving me for this race...

"The only way of finding the limits of possible is by going beyond them into the impossible"~Arthur C. Clarke. Last year this race was not possible let alone 3 HM in a year. Next year, more will be possible. Think of all the things in your life that you have accomplished in the last few years that you never thought were possible too. Rock on Goofs!!!

Best wishes for your race and your crazy weekend, Lisa!

I didn't get my run in last night and I fell really guilty about it. Guess I'll call that my rest day and run today instead.

I'm hesitant to commit to say I'm doing the 2009 WDW Half, but that is the race I've signed up to do with Team in Training. So I may be another representin' Goof. I left a backdoor for myself regarding the fundraising, however. If my numbers aren't looking good by Recommitment Day, I will probably switch to the Mercedes Marathon here in Birmingham instead. Its fundraising minimum is a little more than half of what the WDW people have to raise. And I wouldn't have to use up 2 vacation days like I would for WDW. (Can you tell I'm already in "the grapes would have been sour anyway" mode?)

princessrunner
10-03-2008, 07:02 AM
Kim, my vote is for WDW and not just because of the place, because of the race itself. This was my very first half in January and well worth the trip, time, money and effort. The race is amazing, the WISHers there are beyond amazing. If I had not gone to this race, I would have never met Kristi, Angie, Cecilia, Panda Dave, Ultramickeymouse, and so many many more wonderful people. Faces to names are great but this race itself is priceless. No PRs to shoot for just fun times with fun people!!!!!

Stop talkin' 'bout them grapes, Lisa! ;) In my heart of hearts, I know that WDW is the one and only half I even want to consider doing -- especially since the Mercedes course involves a major :scared1: hill. But I'm only at 18.5% of my fundraising requirement for WDW, and recommitment is fast approaching. Any fundraising advice? I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed that the Southern Women's Show we're working this weekend will bring in lots of donations.

I'm doing the 1/2 in January--although whether I will be running or "mostly running with intermittent walking" is a good question. (Can you tell I am only in week 2 of my training plan and still feel like 4 miles s daunting, let alone 13.1!)

Switched my plan up this week and did 60 minutes yoga yesterday, and 45 minutes of run/stretch today (3.2 miles in 31 minutes) Tomorrow is rest and SUnday my SLOOOOOOWWW outdoor run of 4 miles. Weather is cooling down quickly, and I actually like that for running.

Mike Sending healing vibes your way.

Everyone else, enjoy the weekend and Go Sox! (Red, but I can give it up for the White, too)

Hi Goofs! Just a quick driveby....

Mike - sorry about your knee! Sending more :wizard: for a full recovery. I'm so pathetic. If the doctor told me to take a break, I'd be happy with that (even though I know it would not be in my best interest. Ha!)

Laurie - yes, I'll be at WDW in January! :goodvibes I enjoyed talking with you last year. I remember you talking about your boyfriend. I guess he's the fiance now, right? :teeth:

Kim and Suzanne - I was so hoping to go to WDW next weekend for the Race for the Taste but I just couldn't justify the cost. :(

Lisa - I'm not going to tdo ToT this year but I really enjoyed it last year. Looks like there will be a lot of WISHers to keep you company. :thumbsup2 I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun.

As for me, I was supposed to walk 5 miles this morning - up and down a steep mountain. However, of all mornings, the walk got rained out. There is thunder and lightening in the area so I'll probably just go to the gym. I don't like walking up this mountain by myself but there was going to be a small group of us so I was kind of looking forward to it.

On another note, I'm thinking seriously about riding in a 100k (62 miles) event next weekend. I didn't even know about it until a few days ago. It's a smaller event - probably only a few hundred riders vs. a few thousand riders at last week's event. I should be concentrating on my walking and running. *sigh* This will probably be my last big ride of the season.

Here's some miles for me and Steve:

Monday, Sept. 29:
Susie: 3 miles, 45 minutes (W/R)
Susie: 17 miles, 1 hour, 20 minutes (bike, major hills :scared: )
Steve: 9 miles, 40 minutes

Wednesday, Oct. 1:
Steve: 20 miles, 1 hour, 20 minutes

Thursday, Oct 2:
Steve: 30 minutes (gym)

Friday, Oct 3:
Susie: 11 miles, 45 minutes
Steve: 15 miles, 1 hour

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Hello Super Goofs!!!

Today is my XT day, so I headed to the gym for a Step class. It was just OK, it was a good workout, but I had a heck of a time understanding what the instructor was saying half the time. That being said, don't think I will be taking the class again. Next week, I may try a Spinning class instead!

Saturday totals: 60 min step class

Tomorrow, I will be heading out for a 5 mile run. This week is the first of my drop back weeks, which I really like in the Hal Higdon plan.

Lisa--Hope the Applefest race went well!! Can't wait to hear your race report!

Kim--My vote is for WDW also!!!! I never imagined I would ever say I had FUN running a marathon, but WDW was awesome!!! If it is your first half, I highly suggest WDW! Hope you can get the fundraising needed, we would love to see you there in January.

Maura--I can relate to thinking how 4 miles seems so long right now...but as you go through your program, 4 miles will at some point seem like nothing. Keep at it, you will do fine in January!!

Susie--You are right, he is my fiance now! We got engaged in June and we are getting married next summer in August! We wanted to get married at WDW but it just didn't work out. So, we are doing it at home in NJ.

To everyone else, enjoy the weekend!!

Hi everyone!

Yesterday was crazy so I didn't have time to post my 8 mile 1:22 minute run.

We ran through a 5k on our route that had lots of walkers. They were going the opposite direction so they saw us running up the hill and still didn't step to the side of the road or even try to move out of our way. We always step aside when we are going downhill for someone going uphill so it was a bit frustrating. Ah well, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

So Lisa - how was the Applefest? details please.

Joanne, thanks again for everything. I cannot thank you and your family enough for putting up with your cyber buddies. The party after the race was awesome. I slept a lot of the way home, tired, full belly, aaaaaahhhh. You and your family are very special and I cannot wait until the next time we meet up. I think our DHs are secretly looking forward to it too......:lmao:

Soooo, next year I am actually thinking 2:00:00. We would have been in faster (possibly 2:05) if poor Amybeth had not gotten those terrible calf cramps. I have to tell you all that she was literally dragging her leg toward the end of it. Her guts and determination were amazing. I have found so much inspiration and so many great friends here...

Today, I am headed to the gym. I am officially in maintenance for the winter. Yes I have ToT but my weekend LR is 8 miles anyway so this is just a training run for me... . I am taking this winter to concentrate more on my core and supporting muscles, building up and getting stronger so I can start next year ready for what comes. I am thinking, Great Bay in April, CMM half at the end of April, Beach to Beacon 10K and RnR VA Beach half as my big races of the year.

Have a great day everyone and keep up the great work everyone. We will slowly creep up on the other teams, especially if Steve and Susie keep those century rides rolling in!!!!!!!

Maura - I definitely like the cooler weather as well. I keep hoping that WDW in January will be cooler than it has been in the previous two years. :earboy2: Nice pace, by the way. :thumbsup2

Cecilia - that surgery didn't seem to slow you down a bit. You are speedy!!! Although not the same thing, your story about the 5kers reminded me about event I did last weekend. I did a bike ride with a few thousand other riders. At one point, we had to go over a tall, long narrow bridge. The Big Dam Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Arkansas river - one of the longest of its kind. Anyway, here were all these cyclists going one way - all crammed on this bridge. What do I see at the top? Several gutsy folks running the opposite way. I guess they didn't see the sign at the bottom of the bridge warning them about the event. I felt a little sorry for them. :scared:

Lisa - the ToT should be a fun run for you. Look out for the "asylum" people.

I guess it's official - Steve and I are going to do the 100K ride the coming weekend. Maybe. We went out for a 30-35 mile ride yesterday and we both just didn't feel good. We ended up only doing 25 and that seemed like a struggle. :(

Here's some more miles and hours:

Friday, Oct. 3:
Susie: 11 miles, 50 minutes
Steve: 15 miles, 55 minutes

Saturday, Oct. 4:
Susie: 5 miles, 1 hour (walk & bike)
Steve: 3 miles, 1 hour (walk & weights)

Sunday, Oct. 5
Susie: 25 miles, 1 hour, 45 minutes
Steve: 26 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes

Hi Goofs!

Well its the second day of rest for me and I am antsy. I think this means I am all healed up and ready to start tackling some miles! Good thing too because this week is the begining of the climb!!

Back when I first started running distance at the young age of 40, my coaches insisted on back to back rest days each week to get me healed up. Back then, I lived with aches and pain every day except the second rest day so I didn't mind a bit. Now it makes me crazy!! However, I am running 4 days straight this week due to life getting complicated so I really do have to rest.

Lisa - WAY TO GO!!! I love a PR!

Kim - Way to go on that run! I hate it when my technology doesn't work and I have a good run. oh, and our TNT routes are all just a bit longer than we say they are. 4 is really 4.4, 8 is really 8.4 and 10 is really 10.9! I wonder if they do that on purpose?

Susie- Bad bike rides are like bad runs, they happen sometimes for no reason. The trick is not to let the bad days psych you out.

Mike - How is the knee feeling?

Maura - excellent idea not to wear your watch on long runs. I wish I was that disciplined.

Good morning Goofs!

I am the proud owner of a VERY sore toe so apparently I am on biking and the elliptical for awhile. Bummer but a small price to pay for being faster!!!

Suzanne: My DH and I took dancing lessons once. If he thought about the music he could not remember the steps. If he thought about the steps he was no where near the beat of the music!!! :lmao:

Helen: Nice to see you are still here with us and working out. Keep those numbers coming when you can!!

Kim: Yay for no walk breaks. You are definitely getting faster, your times are the proof.

Angie: I am glad your DD is feeling better. Nice job on the race.

Cecilia: Rest days are nice once in awhile I agree but they also make me want to get out there more. I guess that is why taper drives me so crazy!!

Mike: Knee report....

Maura: I like the idea of running free without my Garmin but I am not sure my time would reflect the fact that I was free. I tend to slow down a lot without some motivation.

Everyone else: :flower3: I hope you have a stellar day today!!

I am going to try a walk run combo today and will see how it goes. I would like to get back on track as soon as possible with ToT in 2 weeks. Other than that, my new gym routine feels good today other than my midsection which is not talking to me right now. Did anyone see the news report on back problems last night and why Americans have so many. We are not meant to be upright....go figure. :upsidedow

Susie Good luck on the century--don't stress out too much. I'm sure you'll have a good time.

Mike I like your comment about your "first hate". Sometimes I feel the same way and ask myself--why do I do any of this again? I usually come up with an answer (it generally involves food!) Actually, I sorta like lifting weights. Just wish I looked better in sleeveless shirts while doing it!

Kim WTG with no walk breaks--that is a big milestone and you should be really proud! Deserves a little dance.....

LisaHope your toe and midsection and other ailing parts feel better soon. I love rest days--I would have a whole week of them if it wasn't for some external motivating factor (like trying to survive 13.1 miles in 3 months!)

Today I did my first "longer than 3 miles during the week" run. I'm in week 3 of the Higdon 1/2 plan and I did 3.7 miles in 35 minutes with warmup and cool down and a last 1/4 mile at 8:30 pace because they were showing highlights of the Sox win over the Angels. Feels fine after a long rest...but I still have 10 days to go.

I'm on a prescription anti inflammatory, and ice and stretch the stupid thing multiple times every day.

I am VERY concerned about even participating in the marathon on November 1, given that I am missing the longest training run on the schedule (20 miles) this weekend...and have another week or so after that to rest.

My ultimate goal isn't to run the marathon, its to do the Ironman in Sept 09, so I am likely going to NOT do this event...which is frustrating, but again, my short term goal is conflicting with my long term goal...kinda like wanting to lose weight (long term) and eating this piece of pie (short term)...

Hey Mike- I'm in the same boat!
Two weeks off with MCM on 10/26!! I have been going to PT 3 times a week and having ultra sound treatments done plus massage and stretching exercises. At home I am on Naprosyn 500 twice a day (not thrilled about the black box warnings but its really helping) ice, rest and stretching.
At the gym I am working with a personal trainer so that I don't loose too much. At this point the only goal we are working on is to finish MCM. I am super nervous but I can't give up now. I have done alot of fund raising for the Alzheimer's Association as my charity and I can't let them down. I am the only one running from MA/NH area for Alzheimer's Association. I am super motivated and I know I can finish. Positive healing energy!

Monday- rode for 1.5 hours, elipitcal for 1 hour, stretching for 30 minutes
Tuesday- rode for 2 hours, spin class for 1 hour, Personal trainer for 45 minutes- he kicked my butt!

Wow...all this talk of pie makes me hungry!!! That peanut butter pie sounds so good!!!!

Today, I hit the gym and did the TM again. I have found that I am more motivated to go to the gym with my fiance so I am sticking with it for my shorter runs during the week, and I will do my LR's outside at a local park on the weekends.

Today's workout:
4 miles/47:35 15 min. stretching

I actually went back last night and compared this year's training log to last year's when I was training for my first full, and I was amazed. Last year I missed so many training runs along the way (which is what probably led to my IT band problems) but this year, I have only missed one run during week 1, I am so glad that I am getting this workouts in and these shorter runs are seeming a lot easier now. I guess that is good, right!

groovygirls--sorry to hear you are frustrated. I definetely know that feeling. You have still been working out quite a bit despite the injury. Last year right before the WDW full, my IT band's were terrible. I took two weeks off and stuck just to the elliptical 4 times a week for 30-45 min, and I felt much better. I didn't really loose any fitness and I was fine during the marathon. You may want to cut back on some of those big workouts the next couple of weeks to rest. Hang in there!!

Cecilia--Glad to hear you are listening to your body and taking that rest day. I need to remember that myself sometimes!

To everyone else, Keep up the good work!!!

Mike, there was a question in RW this month about if you could substitute bike miles for running and the answer was YES, you have to ride 3.5 miles for every 1 mile running though. Good news/bad news I guess.

Cecilia, great job listening to your body, now if you could only fight the urge for that pie.....

Suzanne, you must be getting so excited for RFtT!!

Joanne, hang in there. Just remember that no matter how much money you have raised, it is not worth a permanent injury. The old question of "would you rather run today or would you rather still be running the next 10 years" is still worth considering.

Megan, careful with the Aleve before a workout. It really taxes your liver. I hope your knees feel better!!:wizard:

Kim, look how much faster you are getting!!

As for me, I am going to apply the bike theory and use the elliptical for awhile. I ran on Tuesday for 4 miles and though my time was still at a 10 mpm pace, my toe was so painful after the run that I set out on a great inspection. I tried to trim the nail and it brought tears to my eyes. No lifting, no bruising, no anything, just pain. Apparently it wants a break. My only race upcoming is ToT and I have heard rumors of a traveling party in the rear of the race so I may be there.....:upsidedow

Have a great day Goofs!!

Ugh. I thought I was getting faster, but I've had two slow days back to back. Yesterday was 2 miles in 25:13. I'm taking 2 "rest" days before RftT and hope that will help.

Suzanne, I see they have scattered t-storms in the forecast for Sunday. No chance of that in the morning, right??? I'll be so disappointed if they have to cancel the race!

3.75 miles for me today, along with another round of stretching. I've really come to look forward to the stretching. It doesn't take that long but it feels so good! Total time: 50 minutes.

Tomorrow is rest day (I think) Still looking at training plans for this half. I like some things about the Higdon (stuff is in miles instead of minutes, and the weekday cadence is better) but the MFM plan seems to have an interesting take on the long runs. Since I'm only in week 3, it all works out about the same right now.

Hi Goofs -

8 miles in 1:22 today. We were trying to run slow but it wasn't happening. We'd get to talking and settle right back into our regular pace.

Tomorrow is our first back to back run of our Goofy Training program. I am a little nervous about it because my legws have been tired all week (even WITH an unexpected rest day)

but this year, I have only missed one run during week 1, I am so glad that I am getting this workouts in and these shorter runs are seeming a lot easier now. I guess that is good, right!Yes that is VERY good. You will be so much better off when you get to the monster month with all those seemingly insignificant training runs in now. It will be huge, I promise.

there is just nothing better than a fresh from scratch pumpkin pie.......:goodvibes No no no - not pumpkin pie, pumpkin upside down cake - hot out of the oven with homemade whipped cream!!! (oh we really have to stop this.....)

OH WAIT! Unexpected benefit to my post run accelerade ritual: My finger nails are stronger than ever! I actually HAVE to file my nails nowadays. They have always been weak and bendy and easy to rip so I had to keep them super short. Not anymore. I think I might get a manicure.....

Another workout in the books for me:

3 miles/35:30

Still doing run 3/walk 1, and I feel great. Next week, I am going to move to run4/walk1 and see how that goes.

I am a little sad this weekend, we were supposed to go to Charlotte for the Nascar race this weekend, but we ended up not going. We love to go camping at the races, so it is a little sad that we didn't end up going. We decided we needed to try to save a little money seeing that we are going to WDW in Jan, and then the wedding next summer...oh well! But, on a good note, we are going to the NJ Devils opening night game tomorrow night!! :cool1: :cool1: Can't wait for that!!! My fiance got tickets since we didn't go to the Nascar race.

Susie--Are you doing that 100 mile race this weekend still? If so, good luck!!

Lisa--sorry to hear about the toe pain. You are smart to switch to the elliptical and bike! You will be fine for TOT, as you are in great shape right now!

suzzane and kshoerlein--Have a great time at RftT! I am so jealous! I can't wait for January!!!!! Can't wait to hear your race reports.

Maura--I use the Higdon plan and I love it. It works for me, and I prefer to know how many miles I have to run for a particular workout, as opposed to just running for a set amount of time. Just find what works for you and go with it.

To everyone else...Keep up the good work...and if you are nursing injuries, take care of yourself!!

Lisa, thanks for the warning on the Aleve. My podiatrist actually prescribed me 500mg of naprosen 2x per day, but I think that Naprosen is way over priced, so I have been taking 2 Aleve 2x per day. Not quite the same amount, but it works still. My PF has not been bothering me though, so I'm planning on cutting back.

"The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare." ~Juma Ikangaa

As we all embark on our races and those of you brave enough embark on your training for Goofy, the half or the full, these words should ring true. Those of you doing RFtT this weekend (Kim and Suzanne), you have prepared well. Those of you readying to start your plans for January are embarking on your preparation. We are all ready and are going to be ready as we all have the drive inside us. Train well everyone!!

That being said...it's LAST CHANCE WORKOUT DAY everyone. Get those steps in and count those minutes!!! Come on, Goofs, we can do this...WE CAN TAKE FIRST PLACE!! I know we can....even with Mike hurt, I know we can do it...

:wizard: To all the injuries/illnesses out there.

 To anyone who needs one.

As for me, I did ride 16.5 miles yesterday. I only needed to go 14 but once you are out in the fresh air, who counts right??? Just a few extra miles for my sweet Goofs. Today is 17 miles to make up for my 5 running miles and I am hoping beyond hope to run on Sunday. My toe feels a lot better and I toyed with running today but my SIL talked me out of it. First of all she said "why are you running so much, you just finished a big race"...:confused3 and then she said "You beat my half time so now we have to run faster at ToT"...:scared1: What, I was going to take it easy and enjoy myself!!!!! :sad2: Again, more punishment for going faster, like the toe was not enough...lol. Actually, it will be fun, we will be done earlier so we can cheer on the others and have fun in the park before we all crash. :rolleyes1

Well, I am feeling aim-less......I was planning on the Princess 1/2 marathon in March, but I don't think it's going to happen. The money it will take to get us all there, hotel, parks, and food is just to much. The registration cost itself is insane......so I don't have another 1/2 marthon on my schedule until April 2009. I need to find a local race in between, to have a goal for training. I don't feel like it's a big deal if I miss my runs.....since I don't have anything on the radar!

So sorry that I have been MIA. Real life is really up and down with no routine of late and a time that I can commit to exercise. I feel cruddy as well, due to the lack of exericse.

I ran today on the TM for 35 minutes with 2.5 miles.

I really hope to get back at this and get in a routine again.

I have stayed caught with the posts and congrats to all, as well as, healing etc.

We took it easy today, only riding 6 miles. Our 100K is on Sunday. Please keep your fingers crossed for a successful ride. I'll have to say, the biggest motivation for me to do this is so we can add more miles to the team. I almost feel guilty. Biking is so much easier for me than running. I should say, it's an easier way to build up miles. :teeth:

Good Morning Super Goofs!!! This weekend, I am doing my first back to back LR's to get ready for the Goofy. Today, I did 4.5 miles. I am going to take it easy on these runs, since that is the plan for the 1/2 in Jan. So, I did a walk 2/jog 2 interval today and I tried to keep my pace around 13 mpm, although that didn't really happen. I have to slow down on my jogging intervals. So here's the numbers:

4.5 miles/55:40 plus 10 min stretching

Tomorrow, I will do a 9 mile run using a run3/walk1 interval, we will see how that goes. Plus, I have a hockey practice tomorrow night.

Angie--Hope you are feeling better soon!!

Beth--I agree with Cecilia...seeing those races on the calendar is the best form of motivation for me! Try to find some local races to keep yourself in training mode.

lynnielou--I hear you about life taking over..hang in there!

Susie--Good Luck in your 100k tomorrow...way to take one for the team! Can't wait to hear about it.

Hope everyone has a great saturday, we are heading to my sister's house for my niece's 6th birthday party!!

Good morning Goofs!! We had a good week last week. As soon as I get everything tallied and posted, I will post the totals. Susie is right, the numbers build faster when you add in some biking. Everyone try and get at least one bike ride in this week!!

As for me, I did bike on Friday. I did my 17 miles and for some reason it was harder than Thursday. The wind was blowing really hard all the way back (poor route planning) so I lost a lot of momentum. I am also riding a hybrid bike which keeps me upright. I think it might be time to bite the bullet and go with a road bike. Good thing Christmas is coming!!! Oh and my birthday too!!!:woohoo: Of course DH will try and tell me that the WDW trip is my birthday present so I will have to work on the kidlets!

Today, I am in negotiations with my toe. I have 8-9 miles on tap and that makes for a really long bike ride, 28ish miles. Do I go for miles and rest the toe or do I get back into the swing of things with ToT upcoming. What to do, what to do.... You will just have to tune in tomorrow to see what my toe decides!!!!!

Have a great day Goofs and remember, bike miles!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Went out for my 9 mile LR this morning, and I have to say, I felt pretty good. I was wondering how my legs would feel after doing 4.5 miles yesterday, but they felt fine. I stuck with my jog 3/walk 1. So, here are the numbers:

9 miles/1:44

Hopefully, my legs will feel ok tonight, as I have to go to hockey practice. I took a very cold shower after my run, and then soaked my legs in COLD water, so hopefully that will help.

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday, I am going to scrapbook today and maybe do some wedding stuff.

Good morning Goofs!!

Well I ran my 8 yesterday (sort of) and the good news is that the toe is all healed and ready for ToT. The bad news is I have some sort of stomach virus that my kids had last week. YAY! I started out running slow, feeling good and running a little faster, getting cramps and walking, and ended up at a run 3/walk 2 pace. I finished up with a 10:41 mpm average which, for having to walk, is not so bad. My toe agreed!

Today, I am on for 3-5 miles and I am going to shoot for 3. I may not make that depending on my belly. Day off today and try to drink lots to flush this thing out and eat only good foods to build back up what I lost (2 pounds yesterday unintentionally).

Great job getting out for your workouts. Yay Joanne for your knee feeling better. I hope it continues. Is MCM this weekend?

I hope everyone is on the mend and feeling good!!!

Hi Goofs,

Let's see....Friday was rest day, although I took /12 day vacation to take advantage of gorgeous weather and took the dog for a nice 1 hour long walk.
Saturday was cross training--so let's say 45 minutes of walking and about 2.5 miles. Sunday was my 5 miler, which I figure I probably did in 50 minutes with another 10 for stretching, so 1 hour total. Today was strenght and stretch for 45 minutes.

Today we may break a record. It's supposed to be 81 here! Hope everyone has a good Monday. Mine is starting a little bumpy (brought wrong pants to gym, wore my training capris inside out--thank goodness I saw that before I left the locker room to go work out!)

Hello Goofs! Saturday I was sick. Some kind of sinus problem, sneezing and stuffed up all day. Instead of doing to 4 miles I wanted to do, I took a four hour nap. I felt a little better yesterday, but not great. I hopped on the treadmill during the Amazing Race. I ran for as long as I could during the commercials after doing a nice long warm up, so my numbers aren't great but at least I got some miles in!

Sunday:
2.51mi/46:56

Today is a holiday for me at work. Unfortunately I still have work to be done, so I have to go, but I'm not stuck there all day. I have another 2.5 scheduled for today and tomorrow. I was going to take Wednesday off, but maybe I'll head to the gym and get some bike miles in like is suggested.

Hi Goofs! Hope everyone's weekend is going well.

Laurie - I think it's great that you can play hockey. That is just something we don't have down in these parts. That's a little southern talk for ya'll. I think that there is one, maybe two ice skating rinks in the whole state of Arkansas. Not much opportunity for winter sports around here. :teeth:

Lisa - glad your big toe is cooperating. Good for you for getting out there on the bike. It's good cross-training for your running events. On another note, hope you start to feel better soon.

Kim - Great job on your PR! Maybe next year Steve and I can do that race. Was there a lot of good food afterwards? :)

Joanne - great news on your knee. :thumbsup2

Maura - I've worn shirts to gym wrong side out several times - not on purpose, though. No telling what people think of my fashion sense. :teeth:

Well, Goofs - my goal was not met this past weekend. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I was supposed to ride 63 miles in a small cycling event. I thought the course was supposed to be relatively flat with some rolling hills...or so I was told. The event I participated in a couple of weeks ago was somewhat hilly and I did 50 miles just fine so I thought I could do 63 this weekend. What I wasn't prepared was the number of rolling hills (some of them quite large) and THE HILL that just about killed me around mile 20.

I should have known it was going to be a killer when I saw some folks walking up it instead of riding up it as I approached it. If I could have gotten out of my cleats halfway up it without falling, I would have. However, I clinched my teeth, bared down on those pedals and gave it all I had. I made it to the top but it took every ounce of energy I had. By the time I got to the 30 mile marker, I had to decide whether to go the 63 mile route or the 50. Knowing there were more rolling hills, although not a large as THE HILL, I opted for the 50. I just ran out of energy early on and I was afraid that the extra 13 miles would be a little too much. Steve could have handled the 63 miler just fine but he chose to stick with me to make sure I was OK. In reality, I think he was secretly relieved I wanted to go the shorter distance. :teeth:

Bottom line, I just wasn't prepared for the challenge. I'm glad I did the event, though, and I conquered THE HILL but I doubt I'll do it next year. There are several other biking events I'd rather concentrate on. Oh, I do need to mention....going down the hills were lots of fun! Wheeeeeeeeee!

Sunday, Oct 12:
Susie: 50 miles (double to 100  ), 3 hours, 10 minutes
Steve: 50 miles (double to 100), 3 hours, 10 minutes

Suzanne: Great job on the race. Great photo, and, have you lost weight since the Minnie?? You look awesome!

Mike: Where are you???

Megan: I don't run well on the TM either. I always feel it pulls my gait out of whack for some reason.

Kim: Great job on RFtT to you too. It sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe one for the future list!

Susie: Sorry you did not meet your goal. I would have done the same thing. Kudos to Steve for staying with you. I ran the Applefest with Scott and Amybeth and found it very heartwarming that he runs slower just to stay with her. How sweet!! My DH would leave me in the dust....if he could!! :rolleyes1

Maura: My MIL has been know to wear 2 different sneakers to the gym before....and she was the teacher!!!!!!

Everyone else: :flower3: I hope you have a sparklin awesome day and get that workout in too!

As for me, I did my bike ride yesterday. My DS7 wanted to do a family ride and so I banged out a quick 10 before we rode another 6. It was fun and my DH actually went with us which is a rarity. He and my DD13 jockeyed back and forth pushing each other off the road and got home about 10 minutes before DS and I. My DS is a little trooper too. He rode the full 6 and only had to walk once. He looked at me a little misty-eyed when he said he needed to walk and I reassured him that it was okay and told him I was a little tired too. He smiled and off we went up the hill!! Today is the gym and I may run or hit the elliptical, it depends on time.

I am so proud of everyone- holy smokes you guys are the best team mates!

Monday I took the day off except for PT. He did a deep tissue something- it was worse than childbirth! I'm not kidding. I should have known it would be bad when he gave me a "safe" word to stop. YIKES! I was in tears but my leg feels so good now!

Today I rode for 3 (!) hours. I went with two other gals in the woods and we had a blast! Beastie was so good and only got nuts twice. I cannot fall or injure myself with MCM so close. I have had two bad falls in my life and they were both close to race day. Holy crap- maybe I should stop riding until race day is over!
I went to the gym after:
60 minutes on the elipitical for miles then 30 minutes with my torturer AKA Brian my trainer. He's very sweet and gulp- 20 years younger than me! How and when did I get so old!
I told him after race day the goal was to get me thin and he said- we can work on that. I just had to laugh at that and then told him you are supposed to say "but you look good already". Poor young lad- he has a lot to learn!

Hello Super Goofs!! Well, after a 5 day weekend, I had to go back to work today...UGH!!! It was so hard getting up this morning, and to top it off the kids at school were a bit rambunctious!!! After school, I had to officiate a cross country meet before heading to the gym. I was tempted to skip the gym, but I didn't, which I was very happy about. Last year, on days like this, I would skip my workout and that is what probably led to my IT band problems last year. At any rate, I finished my workout and felt ok.

3 miles/35:30 plus 15 min. stretching

Susie-WTG on your race this weekend...whether it was 50 or 63 that is awesome that you finished your distance. As for the ice hockey, I love playing, especially when my fiance and get to play together. I can't believe there are not many rinks down there, I feel like there is one in every other town up here nowadays!

kim--Congrats on the disney bling and the PR!! That is awesome!!

Suzzane-Great job on the race and great pic! I agree with the others, that you don't even look tired!

Lisa--sounds like you had some fun family time on your bike ride. I love to see families out on the trail exercising together when I am out running. I admire parents that get out there and exercise with their children, as it teaches kids to appreciate exercise and being healthy!

Cecilia-Hope your DD is feeling better. That's great about your DD10 and the softball team, hope it all works out.

groovygirls--You workouts amaze me! I get tired just reading about how much you do each day! You are going to do great at MCM!!

To anyone I missed...keep up the good work!! GO SUPER GOOFS!!!

Good morning Goofs!!

I got 4.8 miles done yesterday and a great upper body workout at the gym. My shoulders are finally starting to get some definition.

Joanne, :lmao: on your trainer. We have a couple like that at my gym. Young and still learning saavy. You do look great BTW and you should have said thinner!! My secret goal is to define my abs and pierce my bellybutton!! (Okay not really, I have needle phobia but it sounds good!!)

Suzanne, I sent you a PM. You are the sweetest!! :goodvibes

Everyone else, lets see those numbers keep coming!! With the biking added in, we should have some great ones this week.

I have to go get my flu shot today and then it is just housework and yard work for me. Have a great day everyone!!

I did my 2 miles on Monday after RftT, and it was tough! But I took it slow and busted them out in 28:55.

Yesterday, I just about cried when I realized TNT wanted me to do 3 miles for the half marathon training program. The first 2.25 miles were terrible. I had to take a walk break in the first mile, and didn't think I could finish all 3. But then some great music came on my iPod Shuffle, the start of my final half-mile lap was in sight, and I suddenly felt great and was able to increase my speed and finish strong. How strange. So it was 3 miles in exactly 40 minutes last night.

I've got 2 on tap for both tonight and tomorrow and then (gulp!) we do a 7-mile group run Saturday morning. That will be my longest-ever run, so I'm really hoping my body decides to recover from RftT soon!

Stupid ipod, stupid nike+

Grrrr!

Okay, probably just stupid ipod.

I finished my workout. It showed in the history. I plugged it into the computer and it didn't load. Then nothing showed in the history. I reset the ipod. Then all the history showed except for the 1.76 miles I had just completed.

GRRRR!

Anyways:

1.75 miles, 38 minutes.

I would have go faster, but my legs were still feeling Monday's workout. I also wanted to go longer, but the ipod started acting up. At least I got a workout in. I'll do more tomorrow.

Update for me:
Wednesday...30 mins bike/6.11 miles while watching the Real World/Road Rules challenge.

Lisa...I do work at WCC, I didn't work tonight so I will send you a PM after work tomorrow about a reservation.

Below is a pic of me, the Mouse and my medal from RftT. Also, I bought a curtain rod type thing at Wal Mart to hang in my computer room above my treadmill for my bling. DH put it up for me so I wanted to share. I hope to have it full of bling someday! Hopefully the pics will work.

Good morning Super Goofs!! I see we have all been out and active in the past few days!! Great work...

Angie: I have not done last week on the spreadsheet yet. I do have your race down and I will update the sheet today sometime.

Mike: Has anyone seen our sweet Mikey??? I am missing the banter on the thread...:upsidedow

Megan: I gave up my Nike+ a long time ago for technical reasons. It just did not work for me from time to time and I would do the same thing, grrrrr.... I hope it straightens out.

Kim: No fear of a longer run. I know it seems daunting now but soon enough you will be saying, yeah, I just have 7 miles today. Honestly. :goodvibes You are doing really well. Try not to think about the miles and break it down into smaller values. Two miles and then an extra one because I feel so good may work for your 3 miler. Just 2 miles, 2 miles, 2 miles and one more because I feel so good for your 7. When I run a half, I know I can make it to 10 miles and after that, it is just a 5K left!!! I hope you find a mindset that works for you.

Beth: Consistent as usual. You are just my steady eddie!!! :thumbsup2

Laurie: Great job getting the workouts in and not skipping. I did that my first half (unintentionally) and my second half. I did not miss workouts with the last half (I made them up if I did) and getting all the miles in really paid off in the end!!! That and great company on the run and an awesome scream team (Joanne  ).

Suzanne: You rock beyond.... Make sure we are at your table though!!! The kids all want to ask for ketchup.....:sad2:

All the other Goofs out there....:cheer2: Keep on moving, get those mile in. We are moving into the home stretch of this challenge!!!!!

As for me, well I got my mandatory flu shot. Yes, if you work for the hospital even at home, you are required to document a flu shot. :scared: I sat down and the nurse popped the needle in, I tensed up, the needle started back out, she grabbed it with one hand and shoved it back in and then used the other hand to push the vaccine in.... Now I have a bruise and it bled for about an hour. Her response "some people have tougher skin than others". My take is hello, when you see shoulder muscle definition, prepare yourself. As a former medical assistant, you are supposed to have a grip on the darned thing (Beth help me out here), not shoot darts!!!!  Anyway, today, still sore, due for the gym and arm work that may be put off until tomorrow. Four miles today but I have a hair appointment and DS has a soccer game so I will have to sneak it in somewhere.

I hope everyone has a great day and, be well, be strong and move, move, move!!!!! :yay:

Morning all!

Well, Tuesday I took my Friday rest day--something to do with the dog waking up at 1:30 and deciding it was time to get up for the day! Wednesday was my 3.6 miles and stretching for a total of 45 minutes. Today I did 60 minutes of yoga. It's amazing how you can not break a sweat, yet every muscle feels fatigued to the point of shaking!

As a former medical assistant, you are supposed to have a grip on the darned thing (Beth help me out here), not shoot darts!!!!

Lisa - As a former infertility patient, I have to laugh at your needle phobia. I was getting shots twice in the evening and blood drawn every moring for almost 4 years. The shots vastly improved when the Dr told DH that he could add a vial of saline for every vial of powder instead of trying to mix 3 vials of powder with one saline. You know you are gonna bruise when your husband is using his legs to brace himself and trying to push syrup into your body. At least those shots were in my buttocks, I don't envy you the sore arm!
I will never forget my first day at the blood draw clinic when the nurse said "which arm?" and I said "doesn't matter" and she smiled and said "oh its your first day! Welcome to the practice" and the tech working with her laughed. But hey, I have 3 beautiful children now.

princessrunner
10-16-2008, 07:57 AM
Cecilia, my needle phobia mostly stems from knowing too much I guess. I am so aware when someone does something wrong, it works me all up. I sat down all relaxed to have the shot and then when the needle came back out, it all went bad from there.

I have to request no newbies when I have my blood drawn too. I am good enough now though that I can give them a forewarning before I go out. "Going down".....:faint:

My DH laughs at me. I help put in IVs when he gets hurt, I have held the kids during blood draws, I am even in charge of all animal shots around here, just don't do it to me.

Creativebeth

Lisa:I hear ya on the needle thing. I have to say that I give 'good' shots! But, on the other end, others don't. My TB test and flu shot every year bruise me up terrible. I don't have a needle phobia, but I know that I shouldn't be bruised after a TB test! They don't take care, and make sure the needle is in correct position. Hate it!

The Super Goofs are really racking up the time and miles! Keep it up!

Beth, she was a dart shooter. Remember them from training days???? She shot the dart and was so not prepared for it to come back out that she over compensated when she jammed it back in. I keep massaging and stretching and I have taken some Advil. This too shall pass.

It always amazes me at the difference between a good giver of shots and a bad one. When I had my colonoscopy I had the lady who does IV training put in my line and I don't think I ever felt a thing!! I picture you like that!!

all this needle talk, I have a question, maybe one of you knows...my DD had an IV for 5 days, now the vein it was in (or in that area) we can feel a hard line...should I be concerned? I did ask a dr, and he said she may have/had thrombosis, but I dont know if that's a big deal or not?

"Racing teaches us to challenge ourselves. It teaches us to push beyond where we thought we could go. It helps us find out what we are made of. This is what we do. This is what it's all about."~Patti Sue Plummer

This is yet another motivational quote for those preparing for January. Keep pushing yourself. Keep faith in yourself. You will discover things that you did not know about yourself.

Now, GET THOSE WORKOUTS IN PEOPLE!! It is last chance workout day for the week. No I have not updated the spreadsheet (bad captain) but I did add up the totals and it is ready to go when I have a minute!!

Angie: I agree with Joanne. They usually give you a paper that says if you have redness, swelling etcetera to apply warm compresses. I reiterate that if you have any questions, go back to your PCP or to the hospital that placed the IV.

Mike:   Keep hanging in there Mike.

Cecilia: I am feeling better today. And, yeah, I have the mutual hate/hate relationship with hills too. :scared:

Maura: I love yoga for this very reason! I feel like I accomplished something yet I never broke a sweat. Okay, every once in awhile I find a pose that makes me sweat!!!!

As for me, I am in my final week of ToT anticipation syndrome. ;) We leave a week from today and will be at the MNSSHP that night (the 24th). I am like this...:hyper: , DS7 is like this...:hyper2: , DD13 is like this...:teeth: and DH is like this :sad2: . He is now blaming me for the trip which was totally his idea. Oh well, I can take it!! I got tied up with the hair thing yesterday. My MIL called and said she would pick up the kids from school and my hairdresser says, gee we have time for a mini manicure. Really....:rolleyes1 . My nails look great but I missed gym time and the run. I will hit the elliptical to make up miles today and get that back workout in too, promise! Friday was a non-rest day for me this week, so I got in 3.6 miles and some stretching in 50 minutes. Forgot to look at the time for my run. Maybe that's a good sign. Or maybe I was just distracted by the woman running 6 minute miles on the treadmill in front of me! I was pretty happy with my run though. I felt good from the knees up. Just need to figure out a way to keep my lower legs loose.

Supposed to be sunny and cool this weekend. Perfect weather for a run! I'll be doing 5 again.

Spreadsheet updated from last week.

Totals:
Miles 331.22
Hours 70.51

We were a little down on miles but up on hours. This week will be more due to the 100 miles x2 that Susie and Steve have on the books for their bike ride!! Has everyone done their bike ride for the week?

I think there has been some confusion on the spreadsheet totals for our team. I am not following the weeks that were created on the spreadsheet. I am following the Saturday to Friday weeks that we had originally agreed on. Our last week ended on the 10th just as this one ends on the 17th (today). If you do not see some of your miles posted, it may be just due to timing. I also have to contact Scott as the sheet is not adding up our hours any longer and I am having to manually put them in the overall results. Just another thing to add on or up!! :teacher:

Maura: Have you tried the Chi running technique? It helps you concentrate on keeping your muscles loose and relaxed. It may be worth a trip to the local library!

Joanne: I have not had a manicure since before I had my DD. I had 2 inch nails then and did not type on a daily basis. Now I just beat the poor things into submission. They do look nice now and I may have to put that on the agenda monthly during my hair appointment. :rolleyes1 Oh and okay (where is that arm twisting smilie) a manicure and pedicure next week!! :goodvibes

Cecila: 12 miles and softball...you are definitely :worship: worthy!!

Megan: Sometimes I find I have to go farther to get faster. Hang in there, faster will come, promise!! :flower3:

Well, today was a tough day for me all around. I was feeling a little bit of stress about our wedding and it started to get to me. It is sometimes overwhelming thinking about how much everything costs to get married. At any rate, I was supposed to do a 10 mile run today, but I knew it just wasn't going to happen so I looked at my training plan and switched up next week's LR with this week so I would only have to do 7 miles today. Well, I waited around all day and finally decided to run at 5:30...meaning that it would be dark before I was done, so I had to head to the gym and run on the TM.... that being said, I was done at 5 miles. I guess after the day I had, I will take 5 miles and move on.

5 miles/55:30
10 min stretching

Tomorrow is a rest day, as I have to go for a make-up trial for my wedding which I am super excited about!

I will try to check back in a little later or tomorrow to see how everyone is doing, but it is time to go eat before Home Makeover comes on TV.

Laurie, good luck with the make-up trial today. I hope it goes well. I hated mine and the hair trial too but that was back in my younger more foolish days.

Joanne, why the pity party. You should be getting excited!! I hope the knee is doing well...

Mike, I hope you are still hanging with us Goofy girls. We need supervision you know, like a bouncer. That's it, you are the Goofy Girls bouncer!!! Seriously, how goes the knee rehab?

Suzanne, you :rockband: girl!!! My birthday has been made even more special by one of the Super Goofs!

Everyone else: A Super Goof hi and hope you have had a great weekend and a wonderful week to come.

As for me, 4 more sleeps and I am in the House of Mouse. How exciting is that!!!! I did my 8 yesterday at a nice easy pace. I am running with ScottH and Tiggerspal222 during the ToT (along with others I am sure) and they want to maintain about an 11 mpm pace. I really tried to keep it at first and then decided to just enjoy the ride and ended up at a 10:38 mpm pace. I had not run this distance (or run at all) for quite some time and was happy that I could still make it and feel good afterward. Maintenance is hard to maintain when you have a "race" coming up. I am super excited though. I get to see so many old friends and there are new ones to meet. I also get to meet Suzanne which is the biggest treat of all. I have managed to hook up with some of my Goofs at the last few races and it has been the best part!!! So, who's doing the CMM half with me in April?????? I need someone to keep me in line.....

I'm having a pity party because all the self doubt is creeping in. I would be anxious without the knee issue and its just compounded. It aches constantly and I am really trying to be positive. Sunday is race day- fingers and toes crossed.

I am going to get lidocaine patches for the day. Does anyone know of strength to use? I think it maybe 5% but I will defer to those more knowledgable. PT feels this is an acceptable plan for the day.

I did lots of stuff last week. I'll post later. I have a CPR/AED class this AM

princessrunner
10-20-2008, 05:49 AM
Joanne, hang in there. Don't let the anxiety about the race over take you. Go out and read Cindylou's race report for a little inspiration. She is sure a gutsy lady!! You will be fine and can take the time to recover properly after this is done. I am no help on the lidocaine dose, that would scare me!!

Bear in mind my quote from Friday about racing. Try to relax and have fun and not worry about the outcome of the race. I had a much better time at the Applefest enjoying the run with Amy and Scott and ended up with a faster time than I imagined. I seem to remember another member of the Goof team talking about running backward and singing during the full in WDW(Cecilia :upsidedow ) and how much more fun that race was too. I don't think this is the one to take seriously. It is your first marathon so it will be a PR no matter what!!

Hang in and keep talking to the Goofs. We will do our best to carry you through this. I will be in WDW recovering from ToT (and F & W)...:rolleyes1 But I will still be thinking of you. Pop me out a text about your race if you want!! :flower3:

Hi Goofs. The weekend was a mixed bag. My training was fine--some walking XT on Saturday--2.5 miles in 40 minutes (we won't count the other 20 since dog was having a major, albeit slow-moving, sniff-fest in the woods!) Yesterday I did my 5.3 miles--let's say 50 minutes. Still not wearing the watchon the long ones--but I do sneak a peak at the clock when I leave and return! Today was 50 minutes of weights and stretching.

Kim Congrats on your longest run so far! Doesn't it feel good when you make it through and say "Hey, I might be able to do this after all!"

Laurie Congrats for getting out and doing the 5. Sometimes the hardest thing is just to overcome the inertia and move. I struggled with that yesterday, and finally made myself go out for my run. Was glad I did.

Joannepixiedust: for your knee. I know how it feels when the aches/pains start playing with your head. We'll all send good vibes your way.

Wow, the article Joanne posted is something.......wow. I can't imagine what it would be like to face not one, both two types of cancer. What a strong person who faces it and runs! Running is empowering......running is life at its best, no matter how bad a run it is. Let's take a moment today and appreciate what's in front of us, be grateful that we can get out at all and run/walk and appreciate the body we have. It's not a small thing to run, and sometimes I forget that. Celebrate it, don't worry about the outcome, enjoy the ride!

Joanne, I hope things go well on Sunday for you. Thanks for the article too!

As for me... I did my 4 mile on Sunday as planned. I didn't run a much of it as I wanted to though. I was a little nervous going somewhere other than the schools by myself, but I was at a busy park full of families. I went on part of the Perkiomen trail and the Schuykill River trail. Out and back. When I make it up to 6 miles, I will be heading out to Valley Forge then home. Exciting for me. My shins were hurting running on pavement though, but after about the first mile, the aleve kicked in (I know, bad for me, but I'm not taking it everyday anymore). My pace at the end was pretty good too. I have my first 5 k race on Saturday. Hopefully the adreniline will keep me running through most of it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a 45 minute or less finish.

Hi goofs!

This is a drive by response to some previous posts. Today was a rest day and it was awesome.

It is sometimes overwhelming thinking about how much everything costs to get married.
2 thoughts.
I think Brides today have it tougher than I did 20 years ago. Ignore Martha Stewart and the wedding shows. I got married in a borrowed dress with about $100 worth of flowers and some borrowed ficus trees strung with white lights for the decoration. One of my friends took snap shots and the family pictures. It wouldn't have made Martha Stewart, but the marriage is still great after 20 years.
Second, on our honeymoon we met a bunch of other honeymooners and the one thing all the weddings had in common was that something went wrong but that was the story we all wanted to share. Hang in there and don't let the details stress you out.

Joanne, hang in there. Don't let the anxiety about the race over take you. ....
I seem to remember another member of the Goof team talking about running backward and singing during the full in WDW(Cecilia :upsidedow ) and how much more fun that race was too. NOT singing!!! Dancing yes, skipping yes, backwards yes. But I did NOT sing. I could not do that to my fellow racers! Once I knew I wasn't going to come in under 5 hours, I started looking for people that needed a lift and I would stop and encourage them. It was absolutely the most fun I have ever had.

This is usually our slow time of the year at work but with all the dining plans, we are busy, busy, busy. I'm not complaining, my mortgage company is very happy each month, its just crazy! The last thing I want to do at 1am is get on the treadmill or bike...but, I'm doing it anyways.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!!

Good morning Goofs!!

Kim, if you can do 3 miles in 40 minutes, you can definitely do 3.1 in under 45 minutes. I know there is always that question whether you are ready or not and whether you can meet your goal but I, for one, am confident that you can do it!! :cheer2:

Cecilia, sorry, I remember the dancing and all that but I thought you said you were singing too. You know, by mile 20ish, I don't think anyone would notice if you had a great voice or not!!!

Beth, that would be awesome. I am flopping between the full or the half. I have not done a full yet and this might be a good place for me to try it but then again, it is school vacation for my kids and I want to enjoy myself too...:confused3

Suzanne, extra bonus points for getting on the TM or bike after working like you do!! My SIL was thinking about buying the dining plan when they get to WDW but has made ZERO ressies and just expects to get them when the arrive. I told her that is hit or miss and she will end up with odd times. Of course, she does not believe me at all!! I think the new plan with the counter service only will relieve some of the pressure on the table service restaurants. That one fits our way of eating much better. This birthday dinner is a rarity for us!!!! We are definitely munchers...popcorn::

Everyone else: I hope you are all busy exercising and that is why you aren't posting....:yay:

As for me, yesterday was a really quick 3 (I hate when everyone is watching me in the gym) and then an hour of weights. I had this man (picture Gomez from the Adams Family) following me around. Everytime I looked in the mirror, he was watching me. Freaky!! :scared1: I started getting really self conscious. :sad2: I am hoping that he was just taking notes on my exercise technique...:scared: Anyway, today is 4 for me and tomorrow is 4 and weights as I will miss Thursday. My manicure/pedicure appointment is in jeopardy to to possibly rescheduling of the field hockey game to an earlier time. My hairdresser is also a field hockey mom and this is the last game.

3 more sleeps and I am in the world!!!!

Didn't get my long walk in today. :sad2: I was so tired this morning and my walking partner had an interview for a new internship.

I did fit into a pair of my 13 yr old DD's capris though!!

Lisa...I don't think you can add the dining package at check in. I thought it was something that had to be done ahead of time. I could be wrong but if your SIL really wants it, I would have her check into it before leaving. Oh, BTW, I'll see ya in 6 days!! Hi Goofs!

6 miles in 1:01 today with my friend Heather. She kept the pace nice and slow which was good for me. I took yesterday off because of a horrible headache.
I started a new supplement program this week and it turns out that its common to get mean headaches the first couple weeks on the program. Funny, I don't remember them telling me that BEFORE I bought the stuff...

I am flopping between the full or the half. I have not done a full yet and this might be a good place for me to try it but then again, it is school vacation for my kids and I want to enjoy myself too...:confused3 Which Full are you thinking? Do you want me to run it with you? I have been toying with the idea of running the ING Georgia full but I can switch to another one.

Fingers and toes crossed for me please. Race day is Sunday- we leave Thursday. I will probably be MIA until I return on Monday.
Is there a tracking website so we can track you??? What do you mean we have to wait until Monday to hear all about it??!! We will be with you in spirit the entire way. Good Luck!

Hello Super Goofs! Sorry to be MIA for a couple of days, but I have been super busy!!! I had my make-up trial for my wedding on monday and it was so fun. The lady that did it was so nice and she did an awesome job! I ended up booking her for the wedding which means one more item off my to-do list!!!
Yesterday, I had to do a presentation at a local college for physical education majors. I demonstrated a whole bunch of games and activities that I do in my classes. It was a lot of work to put everything together but it went great, and I got a lot of great feedback and they asked me to come back in the spring to present again!!

Since I was busy the last two nights, I had to rearrange my workouts this week. So tonight, I headed to the gym for a 3 mile run on the TM. Because I have been off the last two days, my legs felt great. Here are the numbers for tonight:

3 miles/34:00 plus 10 min stretching

Lisa--Have fun at WDW! Good Luck in TOT...can't wait to hear the report.

Joanne--Hang in there! I agree with Lisa..try to have fun out there and not worry about the time, just take it all in and enjoy the race! Can't wait to hear the report!

Beth--I agree so much about celebrating our running, and not taking for granted our ability to get out there and do it!!!

mla1977--good Luck in your 5k this weekend! Can't wait to hear the report!

Cecilia--Thanks! I try not to let it stress me out that much, but sometimes I feel like I can't please everyone. I have started to realize that I can't worry about that anymore, I have to do what's best for my fiance and I! At times, I wish we had just gone away and just invited family to the wedding...but too late for that!!

To anyone I missed sorry!!! I will definetely be back at it tomorrow.

Good morning Goofs. I am leaving tomorrow so you will not see my smiling face until Wednesday (or maybe Thursday). So make sure you get those miles and minutes in and post them up. I will have A LOT of catching up to do when I get back!!!! :goodvibes

Joanne: Best of luck, have fun and relax, relax, relax. You will do fine and you will be fine. And remember, ANY number is a PR right now so ride the wave!!!! I will be thinking of you on Sunday. PM me the results as I will get it on my phone in WDW or text me or even call me!!

Cecilia:  Such a sweetie you are. I was thinking CMM full as it is a little flatter than anything around here for me to do. I am iffy on it as it will be family vacation and I don't want them to have to wait too long for me. I was thinking 5 hours-ish feeling that a comfortable pacing goal for me but I would have to start training to narrow that down a little. I totally want to run with you in VA Beach as I want to get 2:00 or under for the half!!! :scared: Let me know if you are willing to do CMM as I would love, love, love that!!!

Mike: You definitely sound in need of  and :wizard: . Don't sweat the weight, it came off once and you can now start from scratch and build up a good base again. Find a positive and work from there. Remember, most of us have had this problem and had to start all over again so we are here for you!! :surfweb: PM me anytime, you know I am your biggest :cheer2: (just done tell DW).

Laurie: Yay one more thing off the list. I feel the same as Cecilia, you can't please everyone all the time. What is important is that you and your fiance have a GREAT wedding not that everyone's expectations are met. We got married in our field under a tent officiated by an ex-boss with all of our friends and family. DH's aunt took all our photos and the wedding party arrived in antique cars that were part of the car club I was in at the time. We did minimal seasonal flowers and I also borrowed everything but my dress. That was my new thing. Have fun with it and make it a memory that will last for the right reasons!!!

Beth: Are you getting faster???? You sneaky woman you! :rolleyes1

Suzanne: Your 13 yo capris??? Does it not feel fabulous? :cool2: I too am counting the days. Yes, bring your camera, I am picture posting inept!! One of the things I have not learned yet....popcorn::

Kim: Great job with your miles and consistency. It really does matter even though I know you want to be faster. Speed comes with time, it really does!!

Everyone else: Post, post, post, get out there and get those workouts in!! I will miss you all terribly even if I am in the happiest place on earth!!!

As for me, I got my gym workout in yesterday without Gomez in tow. I also got another 5 in the books. This will be a lighter week than normal for me with all the things I have going on and the trip too. I am trying to stay on track but LTO this week. I have found a group to run with on the disneyrunning website, all the same pace. It should be lots of fun!!! I will be on until noon today and then off for the manicure/pedicure appointment. Ah, a little relaxation before we leave. Then to DD13 field hockey game. Side note is that I will have freshly painted nails, need to wear open toed sandals and it is 40 degrees here!!!! Luckily painting my toes purple so maybe no one will notice that the whole foot is purple!!!! :sad2: Then up tomorrow, run, shower, final pack, and wait for my mom to pick up DD13 from school and come here. YAY......so close now!!!!

ONE MORE SLEEP!! Or not, cuz I won't sleep tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So a whopping 9 miles for me today. :cool1: Longest run ever! :thumbsup2 I'm judging my time to be around 1:55 once we edit out all the rest stops and water breaks. And the best part is, I feel like I could have busted out another 4.1 if I absolutely had to. This is probably the first time I've felt super-confident (as opposed to "I think I can") about running the half in January!

Hi Goofs!

I'm sorry I've been AWOL since my report a couple of weeks ago. I've had some rough days at work and the Internet in my neighborhood had been out for over a week due to some construction going on. :headache: I finally was able to connect on Thursday but I didn't have a chance to login until today. Excuses, excuses! :sad2:

Now, I need to go back and catch up on postss to see how everyone is doing.

Suzanne - I did read your RftT report and I'm so glad you had a good time and did quite well! I also enjoyed seeing your pics! You look really good after that race. How do you do it? :teeth:

Lisa - hope you are having fun at the ToT! Can't wait to hear all about it.

Laurie - thanks for asking about me. :flower3: Yes, I did do the race today - it wasn't pretty. I wasn't trained for it but I did it and that's what counts. Ha! I wrote up a report in the Race Reports thread. Hope your Goofy training continues to go well. Is it cold in your neck of the woods?

Mike - I hope your MRI turns out well. It's one thing to be sidelined because you want to be; it's another because you have to be. Hope you are back to where you want to be soon!

Joanne - hope your knee continues to improve. I need to read about your latest.

Cecilia - hope your Goofy training is going well. I may try for it in 2010 so I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you. :)

Kim - you are getting really fast!!! Keep up the good work!

mla1977 - hope your 5K went well for you today! :cool1:

Hi goofs!

I did my 5k this morning and beat the record I had set for myself. I also finished dead last, but who cares about that. I still finished and did it completely on my own. It was a tough course apparently too. Much tougher than what they do at the Race for the Cure. It was pretty hilly. I tried to take advantage of the downhill portions as much as possible.

According to the Nike+ I completed that 5k in 47 mins. I need to recalibrate it properly on a track though. The official race time was 44:40 give or take a few seconds. Definitely under 45 minutes. That was where I wanted to be.

So here's my numbers for Saturday:

5k - 3.1 miles in 44:40

I hear you about running 5 days in a row, Laurie. Our TNT coaches have our group running 6 days a week(!) and the other coaches are quietly telling us that it's a bad idea. So now I'm not sure what to do. I'm so anal that I printed out the coaches' run schedule and put a check mark over each run I complete. The 6 days a week was rough especially at first, but now I'm kinda used to it and I love seeing all the check marks. Now that the other coaches have spoken to me about it, I'm thinking about replacing my Monday or Tuesday runs with some cross training. Swimming, rowing and elliptical are all available to me at the Y, so it would be fun to mix it up a bit. And I probably should do a little weight training as well. I'm just starting to feel lost now that I know that my training program isn't necessarily what's best for me. What would you recommend?

I ended up "taking advantage" of my friend today and did my 2 miles fairly quickly (21:13, which is just a few seconds over my best-ever pace). The guilt did make me run faster!

Guess what- I FINISHED!!!!!! 26.2 miles in too much time but I did it! Can't say I ran it but I am still a finisher (6:29- who cares!)

The Marine Corps Marathon is an amazing experience. The Marines are so helpful and polite and who doesn't love a man in a uniform. They really know how to organize something well. Plenty of wter, gatorade, snacks, and encouragement.

I joined up with a pace group doing the 6:00. I had so much fun with them- we laughed, told stories, and sang the whole way. I did not feel tired and my knee felt really good. Another group that was running along side us were 4 Marines running 177 miles in 5 days- this was the last leg of their efforts. They were so inspiring and gave me so much encouragement to just keep going. They had us cracking up at the stupid jokes and stories but I could not have asked for a funner group.

At the 13-14 mile marker my knee said no thanks- I'll stop here. I knew it felt okay to walk so I did. My time was good enough to beat the bridge so I just kept walking. At mile 24-25 I wanted to give up. If the bus were there I would have crawled aboard. I was crying because I was in so much pain and I could not keep going. But when a Marine tells you to get your head up and move- you do!

I had a sign on my back saying "I'm running for my dad. We've raised $2000 for Alzheimer's Association- Please help me finish"
I had so many people really encourage me to keep going.

The tears were streaming down my face when I crossed the finish line and got my medal.

Today I am unable to walk, have a huge blister, and no big toe nail but I am so happy!

I am invisioning lots of PT in my future!

Thanks for all your positive thoughts!

I was thinking of you all morning yesterday and hoping you were having fun at least for the first part. I am so glad it was a good experience!

Congrats on your marathon, Joanne. Now go heal yourself!

I finally tried some cross-training. I swam for a wimpy 15 minutes and now my arms are sore! No idea what my distance was as swim lessons prevented me from doing full laps.

Joanne Congrats on the marathon! I truly can't imagine doing one (yet). I am in awe of everyone who can.

Watched "Run, Fatboy, Run" on Sunday. Cute movie--not the usual manic Simon Pegg, but enjoyable nonetheless. (Although I kept thinking during the marathon scene--"For elite runners, they sure look slow!)

Today I did 4 miles--actually is was more like 2 and 2 since halfway through I felt a twinge in my knee that nearly buckled my legs. Just when I thought I might be getting rid of the ITB, it seems to keep hanging on. Adjusted my strap and kept on going. Iced it down a while ago, so should be okay. This weekend is a step-back week and instead of 6 miles, I am supposed to do a
5k. It's getting harder to fnd anything here since it is getting rahter cold. I may do a 5k trail race--we'll see.

Have a good day everyone!

Hi Goofs...I got to meet our fearless leader, Lisa, in person last night. It was so great to put a face with a name. She has such a nice family!! Below is a pic her sister took for us. Note I am at work and hiding behind the chair so you don't see the stylish costume I have to wear!! :rotfl2:

Sorry, I don't know why the pic is sideways. I changed it and saved it in photobucket but it doesn't want to post that way.

Tuesday updates...60 min walk/no mileage, we were suppose to work out at my friends apt complex gym but when we got there, the room was empty waiting for new carpet and machines so we walked instead but I left my Garmin at home.

also...45 mins bike/9.10 miles

Stay warm everyone, saw lots of snow on the weather channel tonight. We were in the low 50's this morning (about 40 with the windchill) and again tonight but its suppose to be 80 again by Friday. This is how everyone here gets sick each winter.

45 minutes of XT today--which will be totally offset by all the cake and coffee I'm eating this week. The retirement buyouts for salaried workers is effective November 1, so everyone who is retiring is having their farewell parties this week. And there are a lot of them!

today was a nice easy day. 6 miles in 1:01. It was a beautiful day outside, too bad it was too cold to enjoy it.

I loved "Run Fatboy Run" Especially the scene with The Wall.

Cake! I want cake! Have an extra piece for me.

My DH and I were just talking about the Disneyland half yesterday. I asked him if I should register and he looked at me like I had 3 heads! I'd love to do it and I have an aunt and uncle who live in LA...oh well. Congrats to you!!

Hey Everybody!!! I haven't been on for a few days, I have been super busy with things and just haven't been on the computer much. Monday night, we had to go to my fiance's parents house for dinner as it was his mom's birthday. Then last night, we both had hockey games, so it was two late nights in a row. After my LR on sunday I decided to take a couple of days from running, as my legs were really feeling it. But, I was back at it today and I felt GREAT, despite the fact that it was windy and cold!!! I did 3 miles outside today and my pace was under 11 mpm which I haven't been at in awhile. Here are the details from yesterday and today:

Tuesday: 1.5 hours ice hockey
Wednesday: 3 miles/31:47 plus 10 min stretch

Joanne--CONGRATS on your MCM race!! It sounds like a great race and definetely one I would like to do one day.

Maura--Hope that knee is feeling better! I know the feeling with ITB problems, I dealt with that last year and it was so bad, I had to take almost 3 weeks off from running a month before the marathon. I finally got the straps and had no problems during the marathon.

Suzanne-Great pic of you and Lisa! That is so cool that you got to meet. Oh and can you send some of that warm weather up here to NJ...it has been so cold here the last few days!!

Cecilia-Another great run for you..you are going to rock the Goofy in January!!

ksoehrlein--I would love to the DL half someday, but it won't be next year, as I will be on my Honeymoon at that time!!

To anyone else I missed, keep up the good work!!

GOOD MORNING GOOFS!!!! Did ya miss me, huh, did ya, did ya.....:hyper:

Sorry it took me so long to get on the computer but you know the after trip routine. Even though I had the day off, I had sooooooo much laundry and grocery shopping and general everyday stuff to do....:laundy: :rolleyes1

Anyway, ToT was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! It was so much improved over last year. There were DJs everywhere, Glen Miller playing in the background at the track of WWOS, disco dancing, 50s sock hop. There was A LOT more to see than last year. It was also awesome because I ran nice and easy with Patrick (twowdwfools Liz DH) and ScottH from the Hakuna Matata team. We laughed, joked, thanked all the volunteers, etcetera. It was GREAT. The last mile, Patrick's knee was hurting and he dropped back and Scott picked up the pace to a 9:45 from a 12:00 and we flew the last mile!! It was tons of fun! My SIL and BIL liked it so much that they are talking about next year....:woohoo: DH met all my net friends too and saw that they are mostly normal (Hi Dave!!! :flower3: ). Suzanne, thank you so much again, the kids had a great time at dinner and everyone LOVED the food. It was really great meeting you and yes, putting a face to a name. Pictures are great but in person is even better!! So, make us a ressie for next year.....

Anyone who wants to see my pics can go to asiorders.com and plug in 388 for the bib number. There are a couple that are so NOT me which always seems to happen with ASI...:sad2: Also, on the disneyrunning.com website there are pics from the ToT that Robert (ultramickeymouse) took and shows how Scott and I are flying at the end of it!!

Joanne:  Terrific job on the full. Sorry about the aches, and the toenail too but it sounds like it was worth it. Definitely one to put on the "to do" list for me. Great job!!!! I tried to get on the Dis with my Blackberry but I too was having issues with posting so it was not just the iPhone Kim.

Mike: Great to have you back. We miss you so much when you are not here. Don't ignore the doc too much, K.....:scared:

Everyone else, sorry I don't have time to single everyone out. Great job on all the races and getting in all the workouts. Everyone should be very proud this week. We had lots of double miles and it should show this month!!! I am almost caught up enough to add last weeks and the week before totals. Maybe this weekend I can get the whole sheet up to date!!!

Oh, and all my buddies were trying desperately to talk my DH into letting me come in January. He is still giving me "the look" so it is still out for now. The full is almost full so I have to make a move soon. I think I will sit down this weekend and figure it all out. I may have to give up CMM or VA Beach (neither of which I really want to) in order to go in January but it would be worth it. I will definitely be there for 2010 though and possibly ToT next year!

Have a great day everyone. I am getting back into the swing of my running plan. Do you think it is fair for me to give myself 5 miles of untimed walking every day in WDW?????

Welcome back, Lisa. I'm glad to hear the ToT was so much fun. After last year's reports, I'd had no desire to sign up this year, but I might have to put it on a future wish list.

Mike, how do you feel now that you ran? I hope you're on the road to recovery!

I ran two miles last night in 27:02.

Today I ran the hardest 8 miles I have run since the CMM last spring. My running partner found a route that was a slow steady uphill route for 8 miles. I was almost certain that my legs were going to be bleeding when we finished.

8.15 miles in 1:19

Mike - Good Luck on the comeback. I swear Drs tell you to layoff twice as long as they want you to rest so that you will take it easy when you start back.

Lisa - Heck, I am already running Disney so just come join me. :)

alright, well I am going to crawl up to bed so take care all!

Good morning Goofs. I am a little slow this morning. Not feeling too welly in the belly... Must be the post-WDW party, OMG I ate that feeling finally kicking in. Even my coffee does not smell good this morning...:sad2:

I don't have much to say today except that it IS last chance workout day. My week is soooooo messed up now, I am just riding it out and starting fresh Sunday. Maybe this yuck is my body's way of shedding the pound I gained from the trip... :rolleyes1 I promised the kidlets to take them to HSM3 tonight instead of trick or treating (not that my DD13 was all that happy about that anyway!!) as they got pounds of candy in WDW at the Halloween Party. At least I can say no to popcorn tonight!!! popcorn::

Okay, here goes..... get out there and get those miles and minutes in everyone. The month of October is looking great for us! Lots of double miles for everyone. Be sure to get your miles/minutes to me this weekend so I can update the spreadsheet while I am laying around..:surfweb: (minus the coffee or maybe that is my Zen tea) I will start a November thread later this afternoon. Anything after today should go on that thread even if it pertains to October. That way we don't lose anything in the thread shuffle. Two months to go in the game....make them count!!!!!

Okay, back to the couch.....

Rest for me today--just in time to eat Halloween candy!

Yesterday did 4.1 miles in 38 minutes with a little stretching after--say 50 minutes total.

Expecting lots of trick or treaters at our house today--weather is looking good, it's Friday (although that never stopped kids before) and more little kids have moved in on our block. Wouldn't be surprised to see 150+ kids.
