Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Hello Wishers!! Pretty quiet here on the boards this weekend, there must be a lot of people down at WDW enjoy the EE race! Today, I had my 7 mile LR, and I felt great. It was a bit rainy, but I went out anyway, because I couldn't push myself to do 7 miles on the TM today. Despite the rain, I felt great and I continued with my r2/w2 intervals and finished up in about 1:26.
Hope everyone has a great day! I will be watching the Nascar race. Go Dale Jr.!!

Hello all WISHers..... yeah it is pretty quiet. I still haven't seen much from the EEC trekkers yet about the race and not many photos yet.
I know the rest of us are waiting anxiously to see and hear all about it.
I did a local 5K this morning. (Sickle Cell Sprint 5K in Cooper City, FL)
I walked to the park as it wasn't that far away. I did a 1.69 mile walk to the park in the dark.
Started the 5K and was sweating and dripping before it even started!! Very hot and humid before the sun even came up!! UGh. I started a bit fast, I hate that because as a racewalker you find yourself in a "weird" area of a local race. There are mostly runners and then you have the run/walkers and then fitness walkers and the leasurely walkers. I fall between the run/walkers and the fitness walkers. As the race starts I like being around people so I tend to try and stay up with the slower runners. Then I realize I need to slow down some and settle into my own pace and race. I then start to do the leap frog thing and play "tag - your it!". My official finish time was 39min 29.2sec. Pace was 12:44. Out of 203 racers I placed 119th.
This was a PR for me in a 5K, even better than the judged racewalk I did in May!!!
I kept seeing a black and white looking object ahead of me and then it would disappear, I was trying to catch up to it (Darting Panda Ghost) and pass and stay ahead of all the leap froggers.
I then walked home, 1.75miles. Put a small race report in on that thread.
Trying to relax some and do some laundry. I just got some new Mickey Luggage (it was on sale for 39.99) it is a set with 3 pieces. So I went through some old luggage and will donate what I don't need anymore. (My little nephew needs "adult" luggage, so he gets first dibbs.)
There is some NAACAR on today in a few hours.
Still nursing some hot spots of sunburn that I got yesterday - should feel better by tomorrow.
Later all my WISH teammates!!

Good morning Wishers. Long time no post. My plans are to start posting more on a daily basis. Hopefully I can keep up.
So far training has been not so good. Between life, work, and the arthritis in my knees I have not been training as much as I should. Consider all that last Sunday’s Philly half was not as bad as it could have been. The last few miles were not pretty but we finished. Seeing my fellow Wishers was the highlight of the weekend.
On tap for this week is to completely follow my training plan for the full in January. There are two half’s that fall in place during training. On next month in NH and one in November in San Antonio. We also have the local Race for the Cure 5K at Great Adventure this Sunday.
I have to add some Geocaching to the training so I can possibly do some in New Hampshire with my Geocaching Wish buddy Chad.
I hope everyone has a GREAT Week.

Happy weekend everyone! Glad to see everyone is getting out and enjoying the fall. It's turned really pretty here in Vermont in just the past week. I did my last 20 mile training run for Nike this morning. I'm done! I'M TAPERING!!! It was a good run, much better than the last one. I attribute it to the fact that I fell on my wrist last night while ice skating (ok, ice skating 3 weeks before a marathon, yes, probably not the smartest thing to do...), and it still REALLY hurts. So I took tylenol 3 times over the course of the night. I think that helped a lot with how this run felt. And I'm definitely going to take Tylenol before the marathon!

Krista: Thanks for starting this weeks thread!!
Jeff: Lovin the photos.
Stephanie: Happy to see you got out and did those lovely 10 miles - double digits is always fun.
Laurie: Good job - I just dread anything over 4 miles on a treadmill, it almost makes me physically ill.
John: Glad to see ya around. It's hard when LTO. Glad to hear you made it through the Philly half - YEAH!!
I'm thinking I might need to get out my wet noodle if you start slaking again. Get yourself out their my fellow WISHer and get those miles in - RUN/WALK/CRAWL in wither the morning/day or midnight!! (Did that help??:confused3 )
Vic: Sounds like yall in the pan handle are enjoying some nice weather. Very hot and humid in southern FL today.
TracyZ: oooooo - hope your wrist gets better soon. Remember not to take much pain stuff the day of your race. Yeah - Tapering, I like Tapering!
oh, I forgot to mention that as of today I am down 15lbs!!
Later my WISH friends,

Sorry, I don't have time to catch up with everyone, I am just trying to get better at posting my workouts. Promise to catch up tomorrow!
I got out with my mom for 8 slow miles today. My asthma's been acting up and she was pretty lax on working out this week. So, we decided to just get the steps in and forget about time.

Hi everyone!
We are just back from EEC. It was a blast. I have no pictures since I packed the camera but not the battery. :rolleyes:
We had so much fun on the scavenger hunt that we are making one up for our kids when we go back the week of thanksgiving. It was a great race and I can only recommend it.
The only real negative to the weekend was that my foot pain came back with all the walking and running so I am going to have to take it easy for another week.

Good evening Athletes!
I got out this morning early with the following results:
Miles: 10.01
Time: 1:30:45
Pace: 9:04
Splits: 9:30, 10:02, 8:40, 8:50, 8:33, 8:54, 8:48, 8:57, 9:08, 9:19
Conditions were far from desirable with 100% humidity, misty rain and overcast skies.
Hi John! It was great seeing you and Karen last weekend! Hard to believe it has been a wek already. Train well and stay healthy. Good luck with the upcoming half marathons and 5K.

Hi everyone! I went 1.5 miles in 27:17. I really wanted to do more, but it was so disgustingly humid that I couldn't go any further. Tomorrow may be a cross training day for me just to give my legs a rest. I guess I'll try to start W3D1 again on Tuesday.

I blew off my 10 mile LR yesterday to do the EEC. I don't regret it though - guess that just means I have to get on it this week with the training and get 11 miles in next Saturday. So I guess I can say I did 3 miles and quite a bit of walking around Epcot and MK so far. Tomorrow will be MGM and AK - and probably no internet access. Oh well I will survive!!!

I'm enjoying all the EEC reports. Looks like a fun event.
I had miss my long run this weekend due to massive rain :-(.
I did get out today for a nice 3.5 miles at an 8:35 pace. And I have a strength training class tonight.
I have an interview tomorrow, so everyone send positive vibes, prayers, and pixie dust this way.

Judy - I agree about Everest. Tho the hurdles scare me a little. Bad flashbacks of HS gym classes. Can you imagine trying to get over those babies if you were short or didn't have a partner??? They looked a little wicked to me...
The girls and I have named the little bear in our park as "Little Cutie Pie". We hope he makes it to a safe area and doesn't get hit by a car. It's a little scarey to me as the park is surrounded by highway and 4 lane roads.
No training to report today as life has been a little crazy for me again. I need to forget the stress and just do... easier said than done tho.

Hi WISH Team! Good job EECers!
Bear friend is cute. Sorry he is kind of out of his element though.
I spend a good portion of the weekend in XT playing in the dirt. I'm a bit sore, but will get some steps in later. Will have to be TM since finally we have rainy days ahead.

Jen, Here's the problem.. I wanna pet the bear. That's why you have to warn people because there are crazies like me out there that wanna play with it and then they get hurt or eaten.
As for me,
I hit a new distance PR today 7.25 miles in 63 minutes for a 8:45 pace.
My interview went well this morning. I'll find out more on Monday.

HA HA HA... my 7 year old wanted to pinch the little bears cheeks. He is just too cute and I had to share. I hope he gets out of the park safely.
I just wanted to point out... if you read the story about the little guy (which I think was really hoakily written), you will notice he was in MARATHON Park. I live in MARATHON county. Coincidence???? I am not sure, but it only dawned on me a month ago that this was the case!!!
As for me... 30 minutes of hill work on the TM tonight. It was really cold out and the rain clouds were rolling in.

2009 there will no longer be All Abouts (shortbread with chocolate on the bottom). I really don't know who made that decision, those were a very popular cookie. :confused3
The Lemon Chalets will be shaped in a round size, due to breakage in the rectangle shape.
A new caramel cookie, named Dulche' Deliche' will debut.
All other cookies will remain the same.

Well, I sort of ran last night. Got out and it was just a little sprinkly. Not too bad. The drops started to get bigger, but there is just under 1.5 miles that is mostly under tree cover. So, it was not too bad. Dh was haivng achilles issues the whole run, so he used teh 10 minute rule. I have missed so many rus lately, though, that I said I would go until I lose tree cover and decide from there. Well, I got out of cover adn it started to rain pretty hard. I took that as my sign. I ran about 20 seconds more to make it an even 15 min out and turned around. About 1/3 of the way back, the rain stopped. Ugh. I am just not dedicated enough to turn away form home after I have started towards it, though. Then, abou 2 tenths from my house, it started again. Was pretty hard when I crosesed the street to my drive. SO, I fugured I was justified. Of course, about 10 min later it stopped. 60 and raining, though is still a bit cold. My upper body was ok, but my legs were dead. I'm hoping it was just the cold. At least I got out, though. 31 min and 2.75 miles.
Dh can't work out tomnight (probably a good thing). I'm going to hit the aquatic center by myself. HAve not decided what I will do yet. Tempted to try the pool, but I swim so badly that company would be nice. Then again, I will miss another run, so I should prbably TM or try the indoor track. WHo knows. Way too many choices fro me. :-p

Oh, just got this form teh race director of teh Gran dRapids marathon. Thought it was pretty cool and I know many of us have been through this and many will be going through it in not too long.
I'm having my doubts...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever feel like that? You're doing your 20 mile run and getting done with it, wondering how you're EVER going to run another 6.2. It HURTS!
On Sunday, 19 October, many of you will do your first marathon. It's natural at this point to wonder "WHAT THE HECK DID I GET MYSELF INTO?!?!"
Relax!
First of all, running 20 or more miles is SUPPOSED TO HURT. If it doesn't, you were probably doing it wrong. :-) And on race day, the excitement of the crowd, the enthusiasm of the other runners, and the really great aid stations are always good for getting you through those extra miles.
So, leave your doubts behind. It might hurt a little bit. But on Tuesday night, you'll realize that suddenly your legs are feeling better. By later in the week, you'll start to get itchy for a run.
And that beautiful FINISHER'S MEDAL will be a constant reminder that YOU ARE A MARATHON RUNNER. And no one can ever take that away from you.
Carrie--Love that post! I especially loved the if the 20 miler didn't hurt you were doing it wrong part! And yes, as Kristi said, shopping is definitely cross training!
Jen--Love the bear pic! Too cute! And very cool that you live in Marathon County--we lived in Winnebago county (what did that say about us?)
wellsleyprincess--you're rockin' your runs! Your 10K is gonna be fantastic! PD for the job interview!
Today was hill repeats for me! Ugh! 4 X 0.25 mile repeats with total mileage of 3.22 ave pace 9:53--was an improvement from the last hill workout! Guess my training is paying off slowly but surely!
Thanks Carrie and Kristi! I actually slowed down my running but ran for more minutes of the workout. I was doing W3D1 of C25K, but with an untimate goal of 2 miles so I added time on walking time to reach my distance goal. I'm going to try to do the same today since I am driving to CT tomorrow and won't have time to run.
Jeff - I'm not so sad about the All Abouts. I'm a Samoa girl! (Caramel Delights here - stupid regional names). I'd be interested in the other one though...
It was HARD. I did stop in between each mile. That is probably cheating. I had to stretch those shins the first two miles.Before mile 3, I ran in the house to thaw the chicken and pre-heat the oven. Before mile 5, I ran inside to pop the chicken in the oven. Multi-tasking at it's best! :rotfl:
I didn't quite recuperate from my blood donation on Monday. Likely low red blood cell count, or lower iron count. My pace was off, and was low on energy despite taking Shot blocks.
Oh well, #98 donation in the books for Hawaii. Something like 20 back in California.
LOST was filming at the Waikiki Yacht Club, just down the sidewalk from where I start and end my runs. The film crew was parked all over the place, so I talked to one of the guys. He said they were filming a car scene in the parking lot, and with all the yachts in the background.
Happy Aloha Friday everyone.
Isn't Lost about a bunch of people on a deserted island? Hmm. I wonder sometimes.
Did you eat immediately after your blood donation? I hear that helps.
They won't take my blood so I don't know for sure. (Something about mad cow disease in Europe in the early 80's.....)
Kristi: Loving the multi-tasking for the chicken dinner!:rotfl:
Carrie: DId you try the pool?? I love doing some XT running/walking laps in the pool!!
Stephanie: Training is paying off for you!! Nice job on the hill repeats.
Joan: Yeah!Got your sprints in. Great work! Plus XT on the Golf course.
Cecillia: Good work on your first hill workout. Yes, you WILL be racing up those hills before you know it.:banana:
Jennifer: oooooooo, I like those days when everything just seems to click and you are just doing your thing. Time, distance and the body all come together.
Jeff: (Aloha :wave2:) Dude - take care of yourself, give those red blood cells time to get in the groove. Only 2 more donations to get to 100! WOW.
AFM: I did a 4 miler at my favorite place - Mount Trashmore!! I did my best pace there so far. It's hard for me there, as a walker, because the path that goes around the outter rim is a horse path and is gravel/mulch/sand. Felt good afterwards. The weather was gorgeous up there in the "hill" Nice wind and was a dry temp of 79.
This morning is a nice dry 71!! WOn't last long :sad2: because the front the came through will now back up and so later tonight the humidity is coming back and the rain - ugh. Can't really be too upset though because the bad drought we had last year is now gone and it keeps FL GREEN!!!
Check out an article from a racewalking magazine: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1971981
Very interesting information about things you can add to your day to keep you active and keep the weight in control.
Tough, tough week for me. Knee hurt each run and I felt like a slug. My pace has dropped and I ran around 12:00 all week. I got in a little over 14 miles this week, but each mile was a real challenge!
I have an appointment with a different orthopedic next Wednesday. I'm hoping they can figure out what is going on and I'll have better luck this time. I'm starting to get concerned about the half in January... The Cho-Pat knee brace seemed to be doing the trick last week, but this week... :headache:
Chip and Dale have been trying to encourage me. I swear our neighborhood has been overtaken by chipmunks! They pop out and look at me along my run in the mornings. I always say - Hi Chip! Hi Dale! (Yes, I've become insane - I know... I know...) Today after I got home I was leaning against the porch and stretching and one came literally a foot away from me. We both jumped! Then just a second ago one came up by the window where I'm sitting at the computer. I'm starting to get a tad freaked out. :lmao: Either it's a sign that I can complete this half or I'm turning into Snow White.
My brother is getting married tomorrow. We have quite a busy weekend ahead of us. I hope everyone else has a good weekend!
lenshanem Be proud of the 14 miles more than alot of people and hope you Dr. appt. goes well next week.
Tracy WTG on the trashpile..How does it smell up there?
mkymsehi Giving out those "lifesavers"-reminds me I need to go again. Know what you mean about running after giving.
wellesleyprincess You rock..love seeing your times and I'm going to assume you are younger than me or I'd be jealous.
cruella de mom Oh how I love the hills, keep on doing them. I promise it only gets easier, at least I tell myself that.
Got my golf in yesterday...only one double digit hole, one par and a bunch of other bad holes, but it was lovely outside. Did a 5.5 miler today in 51 min.
Have a great weekend!
Shan Hang in there with your knees--I can relate. The thing about trying to rehab/strenghten knees is that it's not so much about the knees as it is every other muscle group in the vicinity! I swear I could spend an hour a day doing all the various exercises recommended to me to strenghten quads, hips, etc. I try to sprinkle them in (not like pixie dust, IMO) throughout the day. I wonder if it all works, but I will keep doing it.
I have been running with an ITBand strap and it took me awhile before I actually got it to work--just had to move it around and feel what worked.
Don't give up and find an empathetic (preferably a runner) ortho or sports medicine guy. His/her attitude towards how they help you/work with you can make a lot of difference.
Tracy Hi!--How many sleeps til we work the full water stop? I love your form of counting down!
Jeff I had to re-read your post because when you said 98 blood donations on the island, I thought you meant the whole island--not just you! I (somewhat shamefully) admit I have never given blood. For a while it was because I didn't meet the weight requirement--those days are long gone! But I think it's also because I have nearly passed out many times before getting blood drawn. I really should get over it though and do my part. I probably wouldn't be alive today if I hadn't had the transfusions and super clotting agents that they gave me after my son was born. So thanks for the reminder. (At least I'm on the bone marrow list)
Cecilia They don't take my DH's blood anymore for the same reason.
Today is your basic Michigan fall day. Did my 3.2 miles indoors. Still working back into things with my 4-miler this weekend. Baby steps!
Have a good weekend, everyone!
My Princess #2 was sitting on the floor of our living room this morning. I was eating breakfast at the time.
She was staring at my Coast to Coast frame, with all my medals in it.
She yells out to me "Daddy, you have cool medals, I want to run with you and get my own."
:scared1: Oh brother, another set of Goofy fees in the distant future.
For those who can donate blood :thumbsup2(Joan) , for those who can not, encourage someone you know who can :flower3: (Maura & Cecellia) .
Cecellia: Yes, I do eat and drink right after my donations, so this was an abnormality. I had 3 days off from Monday to my Thursday run, and usually it takes me just a day to bounce back. Chalk it up to running on fumes.
Shan: Beware Chip & Dale, they chased me all over the world, because they think "I'm nuts!"
Tracy: How's the day off?
Hey to everyone else out there.
Shan: I can't believe you're still having issues with your knee, sorry to hear that. I hope the new PT can find out what's going on and help you.
Joan: No, the ex-dump doesn't smell at all. Nice breeze up at the top. Only smeeled bad once on a very very HOT day and it had just rained!! Also the lake that is there is posted "catch and release only" Not allowed to keep anything you catch. The hill was only made into a park after so many years of being closed. The second hill is still closed and gated off limits. That one is higher and I can't wait for that one to open!!!
Maura: (Minnie Bud) There are officially 98 sleeps until the WDW Half and 99 sleeps until we meet for some water slawshing (sp?)!!
ALLLOOOOHHHAAA Jeff: Oh no, Princess #2 is gonna be just like her Daddy. I hope she can help out with entrance fees by getting a paper route or something to help get all the bling she wasnt to get.
My Day off is going well!! I did some errands this morning and tried to practice some NEAT while doing them. I think I may go in the pool later for some XT!!
Take Care WISHers!!
Tracy - lol. I thougth I was the only one who ran/walked in teh shallow end. I didn't go, though. That would have been 2 work out is 1 night. I'm too lazy fro that. ;) COngrats on your Mt. Trashmore PR!
Jeff - I don't envy you your registration fees.
Shan - :grouphug: I hope the orthopedic can figure somethin gout for you!
Maura - This feels too much like late fall to me. Frost tomorrow already and 52 degrees. WHile it's perfect runign weather, I could have taken some more time in teh 60s. Seem sliek it went from 80s to 50s ina week. Trees are looking pretty, though.
Jennifer - WTG on that grat pace w/o even trying
No work out fo rme last night. Didn't get home unti lalmost 8 adn had been standing for 3 hours. Have 9 miles on teh schedule for tomorrow.
I'm just back from my department's annual incentive awards ceremony. My co-worker won employee of the year, and goes on to respresent the department, at the State awards in two weeks.
I was nominated for a team award, but we lost to the other team nominated from a different division. Me razzing the winning team.
Still though, I received lots of little gifts that are covering my desk at the momement. I need to write down who gave what, so I can send out thank you cards.
One office really knows me well, they gave me a sheet of the latest Disney USPS stamps, and a Jamba Juice card. Perfect!
On a side note, I just made 17 years on the job on Wednesday. Whooo hoo, 13 more years to go. Then I'll have to decide if I'll move to Anaheim or Orlando, and pursue my retirement job at Disneyland or Disney World.
No state taxes there right? Only federal and county?
dsnyfan21
10-03-2008, 08:15 PM
Jeff: Just Federal Taxes in FL like everyone else and sales tax, but that varies depending on what county and city you live in. (Like WDW has about a 12%bed tax added on to your tab)
Hello athletes!
I ran after work and had a rough time of it, shin splints probably caused by not stretching properly before my run. I paid the price and had to stop multiple times to stretch. My results:
Miles: 4.0
Time: 35:30
Pace: 8:52
Splits: 8:15, 9:17, 9:01, 8:54
I felt better by mile 3 but at the end of two, I felt worse than I did post Philadelphia Distance Run two weeks ago. I guess I learned a cheap lesson - take more time to stretch before any run, no matter the duration. :thumbsup2
I am running a 15K on Sunday (Delaware Distance Classic) morning. I'll post results.
Have a great weekend!
Howard What do you do to stretch out your shins? I would love to find something effective for my shins and ankles because they do fatigue/feel tight sometimes when I run.
Rest day for me--just a long dog walk and a drive to see my son's XC meet.
Ok, while I'm waiting for a break in the rain here are two shin stretches that I do.
Standing SHin stretch:
http://walking.about.com/od/stretching/a/shinstretch.htm
Sitting shin stretxh - a bit harder:
http://walking.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=walking&cdn=health&tm=50&gps=298_513_1104_622&f=00&su=p284.9.336.ip_p674.5.336.ip_&tt=2&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//www.walkinghealthy.com/Stretching/ShinStretches01.asp
I also will use my foam roller to kneed out my shins - racewalkers are always dealing with sore shins!!
20 miles for me today. First 16 were good, last four were walking. Not enough sleep last night. Fuel shortage as well, so I stopped at the gas station to pick something up.
Off to ice bath, then Girl Scouts meeting.
